Wayne Rooney will learn if his three-game ban for Euro 2012 is to be upheld when Uefa hears his appeal against the suspension at its Nyon headquarters on 9 December.

The England striker received the sanction after kicking out at Miodrag Dzudovic during the 2-2 draw with Montenegro last month. If the ban stands, Rooney will miss the group stage of the finals, with the hearing taking place a week after the draw for the tournament is made in Kiev.

The Football Association opted to appeal against the ban after receiving Uefa's written reasoning behind the three‑match suspension. "The Uefa appeals body will deal with the case of England striker Wayne Rooney on Friday, 9 December, at Uefa's headquarters in Nyon," said a Uefa spokesperson. "This follows Uefa's receipt on Friday, 4 November, of the official written appeal from the English Football Association against the three-match suspension given to Rooney by the Uefa control and disciplinary body on 13 October."

There is a hope within the FA that the length of the suspension could be reduced by one game, an aspiration the player expressed recently. "It would be a bonus if it was cut by one game," said Rooney. "Obviously, it's devastating for me, but it's something that's my own fault, so I can't really complain. It was stupid by me – I regretted it as soon as I did it. But I still feel the punishment is a bit harsh."

It has yet to be determined whether Rooney will attend the hearing which is due to take place some 24 hours before Manchester United's Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford. The FA's appeal is understood to include a letter from Dzudovic urging the governing body to reduce the ban.

Rooney was not included in the England squad for the friendlies against Spain and Sweden as Fabio Capello weighs up other options for the finals

UEFA memutuskan untuk mengadakan sidang yang beragendakan pembelaan dari striker timnas Inggris, Wayne Rooney pada tanggal 9 Desember.

Saat ini, Roo terancam tidak bisa menjalani keseluruhan laga fase grup di putaran final Piala Eropa 2012 yang akan digelar di Polandia dan Ukraina. Rooney mendapatkan kartu merah dalam laga terakhir Kualifikasi Piala Eropa Grup G, saat Inggris menghadapi Montenegro tanggal 7 Oktober.

Dalam laga tersebut, Roo mendapat kartu merah setelah ketahuan menendang kaki pemain Montenegro, Miudrag Djudovic. Laga tersebut berakhir dengan skor 2-2.

Pelatih Timnas Inggris, Fabio Capello, tampaknya sudah mempersiapkan segala kemungkinan yang terjadi jika Inggris harus kehilangan Rooney dalam tiga laga fase grup di Piala Eropa 2012 nantinya. Ia memilih tak membawa Roo menjalani laga persahabatan antara Inggris versus Spanyol dan Swedia, namun sudah melakukan pembicaraan empat mata dengan Roo bahwa ia akan tetap membawa striker bertubuh gempal tersebut ke Piala Eropa 2012.

Inggris memiliki sejumlah opsi alternatif jika Rooney absen. Pilihan utama sepertinya akan jatuh kepada Darren Bent dan Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Sir Alex Ferguson expects Wayne Rooney to be fit to face Benfica at Old Trafford on Tuesday, despite missing the Reds’ Monday morning training session.

Rooney was not among the 24 outfield players put through their paces at Carrington less than 36 hours before the Champions League Group C clash, but the manager allayed fears the striker had picked up a serious injury when he told media at UEFA’s pre-match press conference that the no.10 should be fine for the game.

"We've got one or two knocks from Saturday," explained the boss. "Jonny Evans has some tightness in his hamstring but will hopefully be okay tomorrow. Wayne's got a few knocks and missed training today but should be okay. Chris Smalling trained this morning but won't be available for tomorrow - he should be okay for Saturday [against Newcastle] and Anderson is out injured."

The manager recognises the importance of the fixture against Benfica and feels it's important to top the group.

"It's a big game," he enthused. "We recognise it's a real European game with the history between Benfica and ourselves. We've had a number of great games in the past and, of course, it always sticks in the memory bank.

"In the first game, I thought we did really well possession-wise and it was a deserved result [1-1]. In the last 15 minutes, they threatened quite a bit and it's a really interesting game tomorrow because both teams want to win, obviously, which should make it an open match. Hopefully, we'll get the result we want.

"Probably the bonus coming out of it is if we do finish top [of the group]. One issue is the teams you'll play but the other one is the second leg is at home at Old Trafford. It's always an advantage so it's always been our intention to finish top. That's not always been the case as we've finished second several times but, with the quality of the teams, it doesn't make a great difference. It could make a little difference and the main advantage, to my mind, is having the second leg at Old Trafford."

Rooney mengakui tidak mudah untuk menjadi pencetak gol terbanyak untuk melewati rekor Bobby Charlton.

Striker Manchester United Wayne Rooney menyampaikan ambisinya menjadi pencetak gol terbanyak di Setan Merah, dan mematahkan rekor yang dimiliki Sir Bobby Charlton.

Legenda United itu hingga saat ini masih mencetak gol terbanyak dengan torehan 249 gol selama berada di Old Trafford. Sedangkan Rooney telah melesakkan 158 gol dari 337 pertandingan, 12 diantaranya diperoleh dari 16 laga musim ini.

“Sungguh fantastis jika saya bisa memecahkan rekor, dan menjadi pencetak gol terbanyak sepanjang masa bagi Manchester United. Saya akan berusaha untuk mewujudkan itu,” ujar Rooney kepada suratkabar The Sun.

I don’t mind admitting it absolutely galled me that the sycophantic tools on the Match of the Day sofa just flat-out refused to acknowledge and/or call-out Wayne Rooney’s petulant slash at a prone Fabricio Coloccini last night, despite watching replay after replay of the United meathead poorly masking his errant boot as an attempt to prise the ball out from underneath the Newcastle centre-half.

All three pundits – Lineker, Lawrenson and, least surprisingly, Shearer – saw ‘absolutely nothing wrong’ with this…

I’d have been willing to give Rooney the benefit of the doubt after the first kick – Coloccini was sitting on the ball after all – but the second punt was a dead give away.

What me, you and the braying were seeing was Rooney dealing with quick-onset provocation due to Coloccini’s ragged challenge in the only way his brain (which I’d be willing to venture is roughly 85% Shippam’s Beef Paste) could process it – a thoughtless spike of venomous, moronic aggression.

There seems to be a common misconception that Rooney has turned a corner when it comes to things like this. Rubbish, ask Miodrag Dzudovic for details. Any other player would’ve been disciplined for the deliberate kick on Coloccini either during or after the game. Rooney didn’t even see a yellow, though Hatem Ben Arfa did for his reaction to seeing a prone teammate having lumps kicked out of him.

Why does Rooney continually have this kind of dumb aggression written off as nothing more that a mere ‘by-product of his game’, a ‘crime of passion’ if you will? Why people? Why?!?!

Rooney Menangi Sengketa 4,3 Juta Pounds di Pengadilan

Bola.net - Hari ini salah satu pengacara dari Wayne Rooney mengabarkan bahwa kliennya baru saja berhasil memenangi sebuah tuntutan besar bagi sebuah firma olah raga di pengadilan Inggris.

Gugatan sempat dilayangkan kepada Rooney oleh Proactive, sebuah firma manajemen olah raga tersebut menuntut komisi senilai £4,3 juta (sekitar Rp. 60 miliar) kepada Striker Setan merah itu.

Proactive mengklaim mereka berhak mendapatkan komisi untuk setiap gambar Rooney yang digunakan untuk kepentingan komersial, untuk iklan dan juga lain sebagainya.

Pada sidang awal Rooney sempat diperintahkan pengadilan Manchester untuk membayar £5.000 kepada Proactive sementara istrinya harus membayar sebesar £90.000.

Namun Proactive memutuskan untuk banding. Tetapi pengadilan banding kali ini malah mengeluarkan keputusan yang berpihak kepada Rooney.

Hakim memutuskan kesepakatan itu tidak bisa diterapkan. "Saya amat gembira. Saya kaget dengan tuntutan yang diajukan Proactive," kata Rooney.

Kesepakatan tersebut ditandatangani ketika Rooney masih berusia 17 tahun dan hal itu menjadi salah satu pertimbangan hakim dalam keputusannya.

"Hal yang amat penting adalah Wayne Rooney masih berusia 17 tahun ketika kesepakatan ditandatangani dan dia relatif baru dalam dunia sepak bola profesional," kata Lady Justice Arden.

Hakim juga berpendapat periode kontrak yang diterapkan Proactive lebih panjang dari yang biasa karena melihat potensi bintang dari Rooney. Wazza dulunya menggunakan jasa agen Paul Stredford dari Proactive pada tahun 2002 ketika masih bergabung dengan Everton. (bbc/lex)

LONDON, KOMPAS.com — FA akan berangkat ke markas UEFA di Nyon, Swiss, pekan ini, untuk meminta keringanan sanksi skors bagi Wayne Rooney. Managing Director Club England Adrian Bevington mengatakan, pembelaan Rooney melibatkan pengacara internal dan eksternal, yang punya keahlian di bidang hukum olahraga.

Rooney dijatuhi sanksi skors tiga pertandingan akibat kartu merah yang diterimanya pada pertandingan melawan Montenegro, Oktober silam. Dengan begitu, Rooney tidak bisa tampil pada fase grup Piala Eropa 2012.

Mengingat Rooney merupakan penyerang andalan Inggris, FA mengajukan banding supaya sanksi dikurangi. Sidang banding Rooney akan digelar setelah pertandingan Liga Champions, antara Manchester United dan FA Basel, Rabu (7/12/2011).

"Kami telah mendiskusikan panjang-lebar mengenai masalah ini dengan pengacara internal kami, dan kami juga telah bekerja sama dengan firma hukum dari luar, yang ahli di bidang hukum olahraga," ujar Bevington.

"Seperti semua orang ketahui, kami telah mengajukan banding. Wayne akan menghadiri sidang. Ia akan (ke markas UEFA) setelah pertandingan Manchester United, Rabu malam. Fabio Capello juga akan hadir untuk memberikan kesaksian."

"Saya yakin, bukti yang diberikan pemain Montenegro, yang cukup suportif untuk Rooney, akan berperan dalam usaha kami."

"Saya tak ingin mengatakan lebih banyak mengenai kasus kami karena tak pantas melakukan itu sebelum sidang. Namun, kami ke sana dengan harapan mendapatkan setidaknya pengurangan sanksi sehingga Rooney bisa bermain lebih banyak di turnamen itu, jika mungkin," tuturnya. (Guardian)

Dengan begitu, Rooney tak bisa tampil pada semua laga fase grup Piala Eropa, tempat Inggris berada dalam Grup D bersama Ukraina, Swedia, dan Perancis. Inggris pun mengajukan banding atas sanksi tersebut.

Dengan pengurangan sanksi menjadi dua pertandingan, Rooney bisa bermain pada laga terakhir, melawan Ukraina. Rooney akan dikenai tambahan larangan tampil sebanyak satu kali, jika kembali menerima kartu merah dalam ajang internasional UEFA, dalam waktu empat tahun, terhitung sejak keputusan dibuat (Kamis, 8 Desember 2011).

"Badan Banding memutuskan bahwa kartu merah yang diterima pemain itu pada kualifikasi Piala Eropa 2012 di Montenegro, 7 Oktober lalu, dikenai sanksi skors dua pertandingan, dengan satu larangan tampil pada ajang internasional UEFA ditangguhkan untuk jangka waktu empat tahun (Piala Eropa 2012 dan atau Piala Eropa 2016)."

Wayne Rooney's ban has been reduced to two games on appeal, with the third game suspended for four years.

UEFA's Disciplinary and Control Body handed Rooney a three-match ban after his petulant kick at Montenegro's Miodrag Dzudovic in England's final Euro 2012 qualifier in October. England had appealed against the severity of the ban.

With no more competitive games for England before next summer's finals in Ukraine and Poland, Rooney would have missed the group stage of the tournament. Now he will miss the opening games against France and Sweden and will be available for the final group game against Ukraine in Donetsk.

The third game of the suspension will still kick in if Rooney is guilty of violent conduct in the next four years. He will also undertake football in the community work as part of the ban reduction.

UEFA said in a statement: "The UEFA Appeals Body has reduced a suspension imposed on England striker Wayne Rooney at a hearing in Nyon.

"The Appeals Body today decided that the player's red card during the UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier in Montenegro on Friday 7 October should incur a two-match suspension, with a further one-game ban for UEFA European Championship football only suspended for four years, instead of the three-match ban handed down by UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body on 13 October.

"Rooney, who will also spend a day supporting a UEFA project as part of the sentence, was sent off in the 74th minute of the 2-2 Group G draw in Podgorica. He will be banned for England's opening two UEFA EURO 2012 matches against France and Sweden but will be eligible for the final Group D fixture against Ukraine."

The third game of the suspension will only be activated if Rooney is sent off for violent conduct in a European Championships match over the next four years. That will only encompass next summer's finals and qualifying for Euro 2016.

Club England managing director Adrian Bevington told reporters in Nyon: "It is a positive outcome, Wayne and Fabio are both very pleased. Wayne will now head back to Manchester, they are both very satisfied that they have had a fair hearing.

"Wayne always made it clear he accepted it was a red card offence and we are very pleased with the outcome. We arrived with the possibility of Wayne Rooney missing the entire group phase so to have him available for the final group game against Ukraine is a positive result for us and Wayne Rooney as well.''

UEFA originally deemed Rooney's challenge an assault, and the rules state that carries a "suspension for three competition matches or for a specified period for assaulting another player or other person present at the match".

The Football Association is thought to have used Andrei Arshavin's two-match ban for an almost identical offence in Russia's last qualifier for Euro 2008 as part of its evidence. It also also argued that Rooney's offence was not comparable to that of Maccabi Tel-Aviv's Yoav Ziv, who was given a three-match ban for kicking his boot at a linesman against Stoke City in the Europa League.

The FA is also thought to have pointed out that a three-match ban that affects games in the finals of a major tournament is a harsher sanction than a suspension of a similar length which would just affect matches in a qualifying tournament.

The Manchester United striker was joined by England coach Fabio Capello and four lawyers as part of an attempt to reduce his punishment.

The team included Adam Lewis QC, who has previous experience of chairing Rugby Football Union appeal hearings, a Swiss sports lawyer, plus the FA's own internal solicitor James Bonnington and a representative from their external lawyers Charles Russell.

MANCHESTER, KOMPAS.com — Istri Wayne Rooney, Coleen, diperas sebuah geng untuk membayar 5.000 pounds (sekitar Rp 70,6 juta) jika ingin kameranya kembali. Jika tidak, foto-foto peribadinya, termasuk Rooney dan bayinya, akan dijual ke majalah.

Pemerasan itu terungkap dalam persidangan Lee Platt di Manchester, Senin (12/12/2011). Disebutkan, Coleen Rooney memang kehilangan kamera digital merek Samsung pada Mei 2010 di MEN Arena, Manchester. Kamera itu rupanya berada di tangan Lee Platt.

Platt sempat menelepon orang Manchester United, agennya Paul Stretford, dan majalah Hello dalam melancarkan modus pemerasannya. Pengadilan memutar kembali rekaman telepon tersebut bahwa Platt menelepon asisten editor Hello!, Rosie Nixon.

Kepada Rosie, Platt mengatakan, "Kami memiliki kartu memori dari kamera Wayne Rooney. Isinya foto-foto berbagai macam. Ada beberapa foto saat liburan dan foto keluarga, juga foto saat anaknya (Kai) dilahirkan, rumah, dan foto saat dia mabuk. Anda tertarik?"

Kepada Rosie, dia sudah ditawari Stertford uang 200 pounds (sekitar Rp 2,8 juta) untuk mengembalikan foto-foto itu. Namun, dia menolak karena dianggap terlalu sedikit. "Jika Anda memberi harga lebih secara kas, akan saya berikan kepada Anda," kata Platt, seperti ditulis The Sun.

Platt juga menelepon pejabat MU, Barry Moorhouse. Dia menuntut 1.000 pounds (sekitar Rp 14,1 juta) jika MU ingin kartu memeori itu kembali. Ia kemudian menaikkan harganya menjadi 5.000 pounds.

"Dia juga mengatakan, pemberitaan negatif akan membuat foto ini lebih mahal jika dijual ke (majalah) OK! dan Hello!," ujar Moorhouse.

Jaksa Deborah Gould juga menyebutkan, polisi telah melakukan penyamaran dengan menggunakan James untuk bernegosiasi dengan geng tersebut. Mereka juga mengatur pertemuan dengan anggota geng lain, Steven Malcolm, di Hotel Marriot, Manchester, September 2010.

Malcolm datang dengan membawa 11 lembar dari 400 lembar foto. Setiap lembar foto dibungkus dengan plastik yang ternyata juga terkena sidik jari Lee Platt dan pacarnya, Jennifer Green.

Platt (28) mengakui mencoba melakukan pemerasan itu. Sementara Green dan Malcolm membantahnya. Kasus ini masih akan terus berlanjut.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has set his sights on winning the Europa League.

United will play in Europe's second-tier competition in the new year after being sent crashing out of the Champions League by Basle last week.
While that came as a shock to a club that has played in three of the past four Champions League finals, Rooney does not want to dwell on that disappointment any longer.
The 26-year-old wants to make the most of the challenges that remain this season and, as well as defending the Barclays Premier League title, that includes Europa League success.
When asked if he was looking forward to playing in the Europa League, Rooney said: "Definitely. It's a shame we're out of the Champions League. That's what we all want to play in.

Rooney added: “The two of them are both important players for us.

“With Nemanja being our captain it’s a shame we’ve lost him for the season as he’s a great defender. But the younger lads have been great.

“It’s a shame for Darren, too. He’s a great player and a great person.

“Hopefully he gets well soon and comes back strongly for us.”

Meski banyak uang, Rooney belum bisa mewujudkannya selama masih menjadi pemain yang berlaga di Premier League. Dia memang pernah ke negara kecil bekas jajahan Inggris itu, tapi bukan di hari Natal. Di Inggris pemain tak bisa berlibur di hari Natal. Sebab, pada 26 Desember atau Boxing Day, mereka harus bertanding. Itu sudah menjadi tradisi di Inggris, pertandingan tetap digelar pada Boxing Day dan malam tahun baru.

"Negara itu menjadi tempat favoritku untuk berlibur," kata Rooney kepada The Sun.

"Aku tak pernah memiliki kesempatan pergi ke sana (Barbados) pada hari Natal, karena harus bermain bola. Maka, ketika pensiun nanti, tempat yang aku tuju ketika hari Natal adalah Barbados," kata Rooney.

Rooney tak bisa banyak merayakan Natal bersama keluarganya. Ia hanya sebentar berada di rumahnya di Prestbury, Cheshire, pada saat istimewa itu. Bersama istri dan putranya, ia membuka hadiah Natal, bersenang-senang sebentar, kemudian segera menuju ke tempat latihan.

Sources close to Wayne Rooney have denied there is a rift between the striker and Sir Alex Ferguson that threatens the England player's future at Old Trafford, insisting that Rooney accepts the disciplinary reasons that led to him being fined a six-figure sum and dropped for the New Year's Eve defeat at home by Blackburn Rovers.

Rooney, along with Jonny Evans and Darron Gibson, were brought in to do an extra day's training then left out of the United squad to face Blackburn after reportedly going out for a meal together with their respective partners in Manchester on Boxing Day, the evening of their 5-0 win against Wigan. There is no suggestion that any of the players misbehaved, stayed out too late or consumed too much alcohol, but Ferguson is understood to have found them in breach of club rules and disciplined them accordingly with Rooney being fined a weeks wages of around £200,000.

The forward was at the Blackburn game and watched from the stands in a club tracksuit, seemingly confirming that while unhappy about his treatment he is not yet at loggerheads with the management. He has not expressed any views on the subject via Twitter and friends suggest he is willing to accept Ferguson's punishment and move on rather than provoke another stand-off similar to the one that saw him threatening to leave the club at the start of last season.

His value to the club was amply demonstrated by United's limp performance when going down 3-2 at home to a team who were bottom of the table at the start of the match and Ferguson's judgment was also called into the question on the day the manager not only turned 70 but also said he would like to stay on for at least another three years. After the Blackburn defeat Ferguson cited a shortage of centre-backs and a lack of experience in midfield as contributing factors without acknowledging that it was his own decision to make some players unavailable.

It may be the case that Ferguson wants another three years on his own terms and wished to send out a strong signal that he is still in charge, though he may now be accused of either underestimating Blackburn or overreacting to a fairly innocent night out.

Specifically, Rooney is still unconvinced by the extent to which the Glazers are prepared to spend big sums of hard cash to recruit the best players available and so keep United in contention to win the biggest trophies - the Premier League and the Champions League - against the challenge of their major rivals, today's FA Cup opponents Manchester City, along with Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

This is the rift that dare not speak its name, the disconnect between a player who, at 26, feels he has five years left at the top of his game and the ambitions of the owners of his club. And it is the rift that was at the heart of Rooney's spectacular fall-out with the club - rather than with the manager - in October 2010, when it seemed the striker was close to leaving Old Trafford.

That episode was not, in truth, about a row between Ferguson and Rooney but about Rooney wanting assurances United were in the market for the biggest names. And that episode ended only when Joel Glazer, joint chairman of the United board, personally called Rooney and promised him that he could realise all his ambitions at United, alongside world-class players that the Glazer family would continue to fund.

That was good enough for Rooney to put pen to paper on a new contract and life at Old Trafford resumed normal service. What happened next - or, more accurately, what did not happen next - illuminates the background to the incredible events of the past seven days.

United made three significant signings in last summer's transfer window: Phil Jones from Blackburn Rovers, at what increasingly seems a bargain initial price of £16.5million, Ashley Young from Aston Villa for around £16m and goalkeeper David de Gea from Atletico Madrid for around £17m. What they did not buy was an established, experienced, top-rank player - a Wesley Sneijder, Luka Modric or Samir Nasri - to fill the midfield abyss left by the retirement of Paul Scholes.

United will justifiably argue that they were not about to smash their wage structure to sign a player who made pay demands in excess of the £200,000 a week or thereabouts that Rooney earns as United's best-paid player. And, in part, it was such demands that undermined the attempted captures of Sneijder, from Internazionale, and Nasri from his club at that time, Arsenal.

But underneath that reluctance to spend lies the fault line between Rooney's ambitions and the owners' actions. That, in turn, has an effect on Rooney in footballing terms because instead of Ferguson being free to play the England man up front where he wants to play or as part of a two-pronged strike team with one forward tucking behind the other, Rooney has found himself, more often than not, in midfield.

'Listen, Wayne just wants to play football,' says somebody familiar with Rooney's mindset. 'He'd play in ****ing goal if he was asked.'

But the reality is that while at Manchester City Roberto Mancini has been allowed to pour petrodollar millions into the marketplace to recruit established stellar names, Ferguson has not been able to go even close to matching that, for reasons of fees or wages or whatever. Sergio Aguero (£38m), Edin Dzeko (£27m), Yaya Toure (£24m), David Silva (£24m) and Nasri (£22m) are just five of the TEN players who have cost City at least £20m each in transfer fees alone in the Sheik Mansour era. In the same period, United have signed just one: Dimitar Berbatov, in 2008.

Of course, this will lead to City having hurdles to clear in relation to UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules but United could spend a lot more on players without falling foul of the Fair Play requirements.

Ferguson has always maintained that money is not an issue, that the Glazers have never refused him a player. That may well be true but the hard evidence Rooney sees is a Manchester United being overtaken as the dominant force in England by an up-and-coming City, who wanted to sign him.

City would almost certainly be interested if and when Rooney did come on to the market. United's statement on Friday, reacting to a newspaper report that the club had not actually read at that point, said: 'The manager and the club are committed to Wayne Rooney and Wayne is committed to the manager and the club.'

Rooney's simultaneous (to the same minute) assertion via Twitter that his 'future is with Manchester United, and the club and I am totally committed', was so obviously choreographed, right down to the phrasing, it yelled of a club needing to show unity, not necessarily spontaneous Rooney emotion.
The bust-up over the Boxing Day night out was real. Ferguson was angry, apparently, after Rooney's performance in training the next day, hence the dropping and fining of the striker. Paul Adams, the manager of the up-market Vincent Hotel, in Southport, where Rooney dined and stayed on Boxing Day, maintains that the player went to bed at 12.30am on the night in question, despite photographs appearing to suggest that it was later.

Adams, a business partner and friend of Rooney's England team-mate, Steven Gerrard, says Rooney, a regular customer, had a meal in the hotel restaurant, spent 15 minutes in the bar and was 'wellbehaved and not drunk'.
The fall-out between manager and player was part and parcel of football life. It was not the end of the road. But neither did it mean nothing. It just meant something other than the obvious.

Rooney denies influencing referee

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has dismissed Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini's claim that he influenced the sending-off of Vincent Kompany on Sunday.

Mancini felt Rooney pressured referee Chris Foy into showing a red card after Kompany was penalised for a two-footed challenge on Nani with just 12 minutes of an explosive FA Cup tie gone.

Rooney has used Twitter to express his thoughts on the matter.

The England forward wrote: "Funny how people think i got kompany sent off. Im not ref. i didn't give red card. But it was a clear red card. 2 footed tackle."

Mancini himself was criticised for waving an imaginary card after an incident in his side's defeat of Liverpool last week.

The Italian felt Rooney's actions were of a similar nature.

"It was not a red card," Mancini said. "Rooney told him his decision.

"When I did this against Liverpool, people told me not to do it.

"I said I was sorry and made a mistake."

With their influential captain now facing a four-match suspension, City are intending to appeal against Kompany's sending off.

The club have until this afternoon to lodge their appeal with the Football Association and if they do a hearing will take place tomorrow.

If it proves unsuccessful, City will have to make do without Kompany for both legs of their Carling Cup semi-final with Liverpool and Premier League games against Wigan and Tottenham.

With Kolo Toure away at the African Nations Cup, that would leave Joleon Lescott and Stefan Savic as Mancini's first-choice centre-half pairing.

The Premier League leaders' squad, despite its undoubted quality, is already starting to look stretched with Yaya Toure also away and strikers Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli recently injured.

One option to alleviate the problem could be to restore Nedum Onuoha, who has been expected to leave, to first-team duty. A recall for Dedryck Boyata, who is currently on loan at Bolton, has also been suggested.

Yet Mancini is confident Kompany will be available for the forthcoming fixtures, starting with the visit of Liverpool on Wednesday.

He said: "We will appeal. I am sure we will win."

Without Kompany, City were beaten 3-2 by United, despite a stirring fightback from 3-0 down, and saw their FA Cup defence end at the third-round stage.

Wayne Rooney has defended himself after being accused of helping to get Vincent Kompany sent off in Manchester City's 3-2 FA Cup defeat by Manchester United.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson added that it was a "natural reaction" when Rooney waved an imaginary card before referee Chris Foy showed one.

On Twitter, Rooney wrote: "Funny how people think I got Kompany sent off.

Ferguson added: "They all appeal for players to get sent off. It's an unfortunate part of our game. What Wayne did was a natural reaction to a bad challenge."

Earlier, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini had accused Rooney of putting pressure on Foy to send off Kompany. The defender, 25, faces a four-match ban after he was sent off for a tackle on Nani at Etihad Stadium.

Mancini said: "It was not a red card. Rooney told him [Foy] his decision."

City have appealed against the red card and a hearing will take place the day before Wednesday's game with Liverpool.

A three-man Football Association commission will decide if Foy made an "obvious error" in dismissing the Belgian.

If City are unsuccessful, the FA could extend the ban to five matches should it decide that the appeal had no chance of success, although that is thought unlikely in this case.

Mancini is confident his captain will be cleared by the FA, saying after the loss to United that "I am sure that we will win".

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand defended the card. He wrote on Twitter: "How can there be any debate about the red card? You leave the ground with a two-foot tackle = Red card. Fact."

But former United midfielder Nicky Butt disagreed.

"When I first saw it, I thought it was a great tackle," Butt told BBC Radio 5 live. "I think it's the law that's wrong, not the referee. He [Kompany] clearly got the ball and didn't try to hurt the lad."

Kompany's 12th-minute dismissal came as part of a calamitous first half for City, in which United took a 3-0 lead.

But Mancini's side, who lead United by three points at the top of the Premier League, fought back in the second period and almost forced an unlikely third-round replay.

"My feeling is good because we gave such a good performance," added the Italian. "I am disappointed we lost but I'm happy with our performance and proud of my players.

"I am disappointed with this game but I think we took two steps forward. If we play this way against United with 10 men and with the same attitude and strength in every other game then I think we will win the title.

"We did not want to concede any more goals in the second half and did not give them any chances, which was very good.

"At this moment it is difficult because we have players injured, players away, and now I think it is incredible that Vincent cannot play against Liverpool [in the Carling Cup]."

The drama at the Etihad began before kick-off, when United named Paul Scholes on the bench after the veteran midfielder came out of retirement to sign for the Reds Devils until the end of the season.

Mancini admitted he was surprised to see the return of the 37-year-old. "Paul Scholes is a fantastic player but yes, it was strange to see him on the bench again," said the City boss.

Wayne Rooney has reiterated his commitment to Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson, insisting he would be happy never to play under another manager.

Rooney's relationship with Ferguson has again been called into question after he was dropped over Christmas for their game with Blackburn for reportedly missing a club curfew.

A newspaper report subsequently stated that United were ready to listen to offers for Rooney, although the player, club and Ferguson were quick to deny this.

Rooney, though, insists that his respect and desire to play for Ferguson has not diminished.

"Sir Alex is the greatest manager of all time. Of course I would like to play under him for the rest of my career," said Rooney in Zurich, after being named in Fifa's Team of the Year.

"He's a great manager and is a big reason why I joined Manchester United. If I could finish my career playing under Sir Alex then I won't have gone far wrong.

"As I said before he is, in my eyes, the best ever. His success and his trophies speak for themselves. He's an incredible manager and has done so much for football and so much for my game as well.

"His every-day commitment to his job is what makes him stand out.

"He's in before the players every morning and leaves after you. His commitment, his desire to win and his dedication is incredible."

Wayne Rooney is one of the best soccer players in the world, and if you need proof of that look no further than his performance against Manchester City that knocked the Citizens out of their defense of the FA Cup.

Rooney is just dangerous, that is probably the best way to describe him.

Get him the ball, and there is no telling what he can do with it.

He can make defenders look silly off the dribble, and he knows exactly what to do with "the rock" if it's crossed over his way.

He also has one heck of a shot.

Rooney is a striker among strikers, and he once again showed flashes of brilliance against City.

United thrillingly led 3-0 after a remarkable first half in which Rooney headed the opening two goals, Danny Welbeck added another and City captain Vincent Kompany was sent off.

City hit back after the break with goals through Aleksandar Kolarov and Sergio Aguero, but United, for whom Paul Scholes came out of retirement to make a substitute appearance, held on to end City's cup defence in the third round.

The game, played on a greasy surface in continual drizzle, more than lived up to all the pre-match hype. At one stage it seemed United were on course to avenge their 6-1 thrashing last October in the most incredible fashion but City's recovery left them to settle for a narrow win.

There was no doubting that this matchup between the two Manchester rivals was huge, and United needed Rooney to play big if they wanted to come away with victory.

Credit City for making a comeback, but when all is said and done United came away as the superior team.

Credit Rooney and his two goals for that.

He came up big and put the team on his back, and that's something we've seen him do throughout his career.

United doesn't win without him, it's literally that simple.

Rooney once again proved why he's one of the premier superstars of world football.

Alex Ferguson will not force Wayne Rooney off penalty-taking duties because he fears it would cause another bust-up with the striker.
The Manchester United boss is concerned Rooney's recent record from spot-kicks - he has missed four of his last eight - is affecting the 25-year-old's form.

Yet he will still leave the decision about taking penalties to the player when the team face Arsenal on Sunday.
'I'm happy to suffer,' said the Scot as he prepared to face Arsenal for the first time since United beat them 8-2 in August.

The two biggest personalities at United are trying to patch things up after Rooney was fined £200,000 for having a night out on Boxing Day.
Ferguson last week said Rooney 'could do better' after the 3-0 win against Bolton, but he clarified that by saying he thought penalty responsibilities had damaged the player's confidence.

He said: 'I think that when he missed the penalty last week, it affected his game a wee bit. All players can improve when they are 25, including Wayne.
'I don't know who will take the penalties against Arsenal. Absolutely, Wayne wants to keep on taking them. It's a question that's down to him really, definitely. If he is happy take them, I am happy to suffer.'

Rooney, who scored a hat-trick in United's remarkable 8-2 win, underlined his determination to continue taking penalties even though Michael Carrick, Nani and Antonio Valencia are able deputies.
'Of course I'll still take the penalties,' he said.
'These things happen - sometimes you miss. It's not nice to miss but I'm not worried about it.'

Ferguson admitted 19-goal Van Persie was on United's radar before he joined Arsenal from Feyenoord in 2004.

He said: 'I remember us going to see him in the reserve team and we didn't move for him. He got sent off that day or he walked off and we left it alone.

Terakhir ia gagal ketika timnya menghadapi Bolton Wanderers namun beruntung The Red Devils masih dapat menang dengan skor 3-0. Meski sering gagal namun Rooney tidak berkeinginan menyerahkan beban tersebut ke pemain lain.

"Tentu saja saya masih akan mengambil tugas penalti," ujar mantan striker Everton tersebut.

"Hal semacam itu bisa terjadi. Kadang Anda bisa gagal. Tidak mengenakkan rasanya untuk gagal namun saya tidak mengkhawatirkannya." (mos/rev)

MANCHESTER, KOMPAS.com - Masih ingat dengan foto-foto pribadi, Wayne Rooney,dan keluarga dalam kamera istrinya, Coleen Roney, yang hilang dan kemudian berlanjut kepada pemerasan terhadap bintang Manchester United itu? Pelakunya sudah menjalani persidangan dan diganjar hukuman penjara dan pekerjaan sosial.

Daily Mail melaporkan Lee Platt (29) terbukti melakukan pencurian dan pemerasan terhadap keluarga Rooney atas foto-foto tersebut diganjar hukuman dua tahun penjara. Kala itu, keluarga bintang sepak bola itu dipaksa untuk menebusnya dengan uang sebesar 5.000 pounds atau sekitar Rp 70,6 juta jika tak mau foto-foto dalam kamera itu dijual ke majalah.

Sementara itu, rekannya, Steven Malcolm (42) diganjar hukuman penjara 20 bulan. Pacar Platt, Jennifer Green (26), dihukum pekerjaan sosial dan 40 jam bekerja tanpa dibayar karena terbukti membantu menyimpan barang-barang curian.

Polisi bisa menangkap mereka setelah melakukan penyamaran untuk bernegosiasi dan bertemu dengan Steven Malcolm di Hotel Marriot, Manchester, September 2010.

Malcolm datang dengan membawa 11 lembar dari 400 lembar foto. Setiap lembar foto dibungkus dengan plastik yang terkena sidik jari Lee Platt dan pacarnya, Jennifer Green.

Hakim Anthony Gee QC mengatakan pemerasan adalah tindakan yang keji dan tercela. Oleh karena itu, hukuman harus diberikan untuk mendatangkan efek jera dan mencegah kasus-kasus yang sama. Lagipula, Platt dan Malcolm pujnya catatan kriminal sebelumnya.

"Anda memperoleh kartu memori dan kamera, lalu melibatkan pacar Anda dan Steven Malcolm," katanya.

Sementara itu, pengacara Platt, David Toal, menyatakan bahwa kliennya mengakui perbuatannya meski pada awalnya tidak berniat untuk melakukan pemerasan.

"Dari banyak sisi ini terlihat sebagai sebuah usaha amatir. Ini adalah sebuah upaya yang sejak awal sudah terlihat pasti akan gagal. Dia sepenuhnya menyesal dan sebagai seorang anggota keluarga juga telah menyadari bahwa dia telah melakukan kesalahan serta menyebabkan luka dan penderitaan," ungkapnya.

Sementara itu, Jaksa Penuntut, Debora Gould, mengatakan Coleen melaporkan bahwa dirinya kehilangan kamera setelah menonton konser pop di M.E.N Arena di Manchester, 24 Mei 2010. Gould mengatakan Coleen menyangkal bahwa ada foto-foto suaminya tengah mabuk di beberapa negara.

"Dia (Coleen) mengatakan bahwa apa yang sangat menyedihkan adalah bahwa foto-foto itu tak ada relevansinya dengan orang lain selain dirinya dan keluarganya. Dan jika dikatakan bahwa gambar-gambar tersebut menunjukkan suaminya tengah berada di sejumlah negara, itu tidak benar, dan itu telah menyebabkan dia (Coleen) stres," ujar Gould.

Manchester United are already out of the FA Cup, so they weren't in action as the fifth round took centre stage.

But Rooney showed football will always be his first love as he took a trip to watch his former club Everton.
The Toffees were in action against Championship side Blackpool on Saturday and Rooney joined his old pal Alan Stubbs in the crowd.
When he played for Everton, Rooney once famously showed off a T-shirt after he scored that screamed: 'Once a blue, always a blue'.

When he suddenly joined United shortly afterwards, Everton fans were quick to remind him of his pledge - and they have given him abuse ever since.
But Rooney was happy to join the supporters who turned against him as David Moyes' side aimed for a place in the quarter-finals.

Manchester - Setelah absen di dua pertandingan terakhir Manchester United, Wayne Rooney siap kembali bermain untuk menghadapi Tottenham Hotspur di White Hart Lane pada akhir pekan.

Infeksi tenggorokan sudah membuat Rooney tidak bisa turun membela MU di pertandingan leg II lawan Ajax di Liga Europa dan kemudian laga kontra Norwich di Liga Primer Inggris akhir pekan lalu.

Akan tetapi, Rooney sudah akan bisa bermain lagi untuk lawatan ke markas Spurs, Minggu (4/3/2012) malam WIB, sebagaimana dijelaskan Manajer MU Sir Alex Ferguson.

Meski begitu, di laga tersebut MU masih akan tanpa Tom Cleverley dan Antonio Valencia. Sementara Chris Smalling yang mendapat cedera kepala di laga ujicoba internasional timnas Inggris pada tengah pekan juga masih meragukan.

"Tak ada gegar otak tapi ia terluka cukup lumayan. Apakah kita akan bisa membalutnya (agar bisa bermain), saya belum yakin benar. Kami harus menanganinya dengan hati-hati dan kita akan lihat bagaimana kondisinya besok," kata Fergie di situs resmi MU.

"Rooney sudah bugar dan berlatih sepanjang pekan (tapi) Cleverley dan Valencia masih absen," lanjutnya.

Bola.net - Salah satu hal yang dirasakan berbeda di musim ini oleh Wayne Rooney ketimbang musim-musim sebelumnya adalah konsistensi.

Konsistensi di sini terkait dirinya sendiri, terkait gol serta performa yang disuguhkan oleh striker milik klub Manchester United tersebut.

Striker berumur 26 tahun ini telah mencetak 10 gol dari 7 laga terakhirnya bersama Setan merah, total sudah 30 gol ia kumpulkan sejauh musim ini berjalan di segala ajang.

"Sepak bola memang seperti ini adanya, kadang Anda mencetak gol terkadang juga tidak," ujar Wazza kepada The Sun.

MANCHESTER, KOMPAS.com - Gara-gara aksi Wayne Rooney, suporter Manchester United (MU) yang baru berumur 9 tahun, Jamie Thomas, cedera pergelangan tangan.

Peristiwa itu terjadi saat MU bertandang ke kandang Wolverhamtpon Wanderers, Minggu (18/3/2012). Sebelum pertandingan, seperti biasa para pemain melakukan pemanasan. Rupanya, Rooney menendang bola terlalu keras dan ke arah yang tak diinginkan, yakni ke tribun penonton.

Thomas yang mendapat sial. Bola liar itu mengarah kepadanya. Dia mencoba memblok dengan tangannya, tapi pergelangan tangannya malah keseleo. Padahal, ini pengalaman pertamanya menyangksikan tim pujaan, MU, bermain secara langsung di stadion. Dia pun terpaksa tak bisa melanjutkan menonton pertandingan yang akhirnya dimenangkan MU 5-0 itu.

Kepada media Shropshire Star, ayah Thomas, Andy, mengatakan, "Ini pertandingan Manchester United pertama (bagi Thomas) dan di kandang Wolves. Saat itu para pemain sedang melakukan pemanasan. Rooney dan (Javier) Hernandez melakukan beberapa tendangan. Tendangan Rooney kurang sempurna dan mengarah tepat ke Jamie. Maka, ia pun mencoba melindungi diri dan menghentikan bola itu. Bola menghantam dirinya dan tangannya patah."

Jamie Thomas tadinya tak terlalu menghirukan rasa tetap menonton pertandingan bersama ayahnya. Tapi, setelah babak pertama, mereka terpaksa mencari bantuan dan akhirnya meninggalkan stadion untuk ke rumah sakit.

"Mereka (dokter) bilang, ada yang patah di tangannya dan baru sembuh sekitar dua pekan. Tapi, dia sudah bersekolah dan rekan-rekannya mulai membubuhkan tanda tangan di gips tangannya. Dia tetap bisa menulis dengan tangannya," jelas Andy.

Andy tak mau menyalahkan Rooney. Ia menambahkan, "Saya kira ROoney tak menyadari apa yang telah ia lakukan."

Rooney akhirnya mendengar kabar itu. Lewat akun Twitternya, ia menulis, "Aku ingin meminta maaf kepada Jamie Thomas. Aku sudah menyiapkan surat dan menandatangani kostum untuk dikirim ke rumahnya."

Insiden ini secara tidak langsung menunjukkan bahwa Rooney memiliki tendangan yang sangat kuat.

Misi Rooney Mengejar Rekor Gol Charlton

Manchester - Catatan gol Wayne Rooney di Manchester United saat ini hampir menyamai torehan George Best dan Dennis Viollet. Setelah bisa melewati keduanya, target berikutnya adalah jadi top skorer sepanjang masa MU.

Hampir delapan musim menjadi andalan lini depan The Red Devils, Rooney sudah mencetak 175 gol di semua ajang. Raihan gol pemain 26 tahun itu hanya berjarak empat gol dari dua legenda MU, Best dan Viollet.

Rooney, yang sudah mencetak 28 gol pada musim 2011/2012, yakin bakal segera melewati rekor dua pendahulunya itu. Apalagi pertandingan Liga Inggris di musim ini masih menyisakan tujuh pertandingan.

"Mereka (Viollet dan Best) tentu saja adalah legenda klub dan hampir menyamai catatan gol mereka adalah satu hal yang membanggakan dan semoga saya segera melampauinya," jelas Rooney kepada Inside United.

Yakin masih punya karier yang panjang di Old Trafford, Rooney pun lantas membidik rekor Sir Bobby Charlton sebagai target terbesarnya. Sudah mengukir 249 gol, Charlton tercatat sebagai pencetak gol terbanyak sepanjang sejarah 'Setan merah'.

"Tentu saja. Itu akan menjadi perasaan yang luar biasa jika saya bisa mencapai rekornya," ujarnya.

And despite already winning four titles and a Champions League trophy since joining United from Everton in 2004, the 26-year-old believes holding off the challenge from the Etihad Stadium would be one of the greatest achievements of his career.

“It’s on your mind all the time and you’re thinking about it every day,” said the England forward. “The games usually come every three or four days at this time of the campaign so you’re always thinking about the next match and looking at the league table all the time. “I watch pretty much every game that’s on, no matter who’s playing. If there’s a game on, I can’t not watch it. “Watching games can be really frustrating, but when things go your way it’s a great feeling. “The most important thing for us is to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we take care of our results, but of course it does give you a real boost when you see your rivals drop points.

Rooney Kini Sudah Lebih Kalem

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed his disappointment at Wayne Rooney's performance against Aston Villa, despite the striker bagging two goals in the 4-0 win.
Rooney converted the early penalty questionably gained by Ashley Young and doubled his tally 17 minutes before the end.
It took him to 31 for the season but Rooney did not looked particularly impressed when he was replaced immediately by Dimitar Berbatov.

However, Ferguson believed the performance had not been one of Rooney's best and that he had been sucked into a rather lethargic display.
'He was careless,' said the United boss. 'Wayne has to play on the edge of a game, when it is really close and competitive.
'When the game gets to that casual bit, he is worse than the rest of them. He gets really casual about it. It is better when he is on the edge. Then he is a marvellous player.'

After having their lead cut to two points by Manchester City 24 hours earlier, United never looked like failing to restore that five-point gap yesterday and goals from Danny Welbeck and Nani at the end of either half ensured their dominance was fully rewarded.

Now they know victory over Everton at Old Trafford next Sunday would mean a record championship will be won if they beat City in an eagerly-anticipated Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on April 30 no matter what Roberto Mancini's men do at rock-bottom Wolves in the meantime.

Not that Rio Ferdinand is too bothered about the prospect of confirming superiority at the home of United's biggest rivals.
'I couldn't care less,' said Ferdinand. 'As long as we can win and we get the trophy, I couldn't care less where we win it.
'The fans would love it, but as long as you get you hands on the trophy you would take it in the back garden.'

Typically, Ferguson is not even prepared to go that far.
'You can never be too confident in this game,' he said. 'My experience tells me that there is always something that is going to bite you on the bum. Hopefully we can avoid that.'

It's been a rough week for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. Described as careless by his manager on Sunday – omitted from the top 10 of the Premier League’s list of all-time greats by a panel of experts on Tuesday. But don’t feel too sorry for the 26-year-old. After all, he did score twice in the 4-0 win against Aston Villa, taking his season’s tally to 31 goals, moving him ever closer to a fifth Premier League title in six years.

On 178 goals for United, he is now just one behind the records of Old Trafford legends George Best and Dennis Violet and needs four more before the end of the season to break his own personal best in 2010. Not to mention he was also short-listed for the PFA Player of the Year award, so as Best might say, 'Where did it all go wrong?' Rooney’s name was the notable omission from the Premier League’s 20th anniversary honours list. Fellow strikers Alan Shearer, Eric Cantona, Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry and Gianfranco Zola were all selected ahead of him. Of that list only Shearer and Henry scored more goals than the England international. Only Cantona has won as many titles.

Influence can be measured by more than mere statistics, but it would be hard to argue against Rooney being the most influential player in the Premier League since Cristiano Ronaldo left United for Real Madrid in 2009. His 14 goals in the second half of last season were pivotal to United’s record 19th title – as well as a third Champions League final in four years. The season before he hit 34 goals in all competitions to put United on the brink of a fourth successive title before injuring his ankle that March. Rooney failed to score again that campaign as United crashed out of the Champions League and surrendered the title by a single point.

Suspended from last season’s FA Cup semi-final against City, a Rooney-less United were shouted down by their noisy neighbours. That is how important he is to his club’s cause – and why Ferguson was prepared to go to such lengths to keep him at Old Trafford when he threatened to walk away in October 2010. It is impossible to imagine Rooney not being included in a 25th or 30th anniversary honours list if his career continues at the same trajectory. And given that he is yet to reach his peak years of 27-29, there is no reason to think it won’t. Rooney’s career remains in ascendency. His goals this season have been allied to a newfound maturity on the pitch that has seen him avoid a caution in the Premier League since May 2011. Looking at the 10-man shortlist for the Premier League awards – which also includes Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Ronaldo and Patrick Vieira – Rooney could at least consider himself unfortunate to miss out to Zola, the only one of the 10 not to win a title. But he could justifiably argue his case against the majority of the nominees. His omission doesn’t so much point to the fierce competition, rather the under appreciation of his remarkable talents.

Even on the verge of overtaking legends like Best and Violet, at Old Trafford Rooney still finds himself in the shadow of Cantona in the eyes of both fans and experts. The affection towards Cantona from the terraces says as much about where United were as a club, as the Frenchman’s undoubted impact on the pitch. Without a title since 1967, he was the catalyst to the current period of dominance when arriving from Leeds in 92. In five seasons he won four titles. His only barren year coming when suspended for the run-in of the 94-95 campaign following his kung fu kick on a Crystal Palace supporter. That was the measure of Cantona’s influence on the pitch, while he is credited for inspiring United’s golden generation of Giggs, David Beckham and Scholes that provided the nucleus of the Treble-winning side of 99.

If Cantona’s impact was more dramatic because of the depths to which United had sunk since their 68 European Cup triumph under Sir Matt Busby, it would be worth considering where they would have been without Rooney over the past half-dozen years. His arrival from Everton in 2004 came at a point of transition for Ferguson’s team. Arsenal’s invincibles had put United in the shade and a combination of Roman Abramovich and Jose Mourinho were about to put a stranglehold on English football. While Ronaldo’s emergence as one of the finest footballers on the planet was the driving force behind the Champions League success of 2008, the Portuguese was allowed to flourish often at the expense of Rooney.

Since his £80m departure a year later, Rooney’s own match-winning capabilities have been shown to their fullest at the same time as Ferguson has begun another transition to what he hopes will be his next great team. United are far from a one-man team – but without him, it is difficult to imagine them standing on the brink of back-to-back titles. In that sense Rooney is proving a guiding force to Danny Welbeck, Ashley Young and Phil Jones, as Cantona did to Giggs, Beckham and Scholes before him.

While Cantona had already hung up his boots by time those starlets reached their pinnacle of 99, Rooney should remain at the heart of what United’s latest generation can go on to achieve. He still has his personal goals too. Best and Violet are in his sights to become United’s fourth all-time leading goal-scorer, with Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 his ultimate target. Should he manage that, then surely he won’t be overlooked the next time an expert panel gets together to determine the Premier League’s finest? Any argument for Rooney reaching Charlton's total must be tempered with the knowledge that it appeared even more certain that Michael Owen would become England's highest scorer in September 2007 when he reached the 40 mark.

He still remains there now, thanks mainly to a series of chronic injuries that have wrecked his time at both Newcastle and now United.

Owen has not played since November after suffering a thigh injury, yet after returning to training earlier this week, Ferguson is not writing the 32-year-old out of his plans.

"We want to try and get Michael back," he said.

"If he continues his training for the next week he would certainly be under consideration for the important games coming up because he can score important goals at any stage of a match.

"He has been very unlucky. But for those injuries, who is to say what kind of career he would have had in terms of goals in particular."

Owen will not be involved on Sunday, and neither will Anderson and Paul Pogba, both of whom have been ruled out for the remainder of the season with hamstring and ankle injuries respectively.

Not that either were expected to play any meaningful role against Everton.

Having only lost once in the Premier League on home soil against the Toffeemen, back in 1992, there is nothing to suggest United are about to suffer the kind of mishap that would offer Manchester City hope that they could get close enough to claim top spot in next week's derby clash at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Ferguson is close enough to Everton boss David Moyes to be aware they will be dangerous opponents, especially after experiencing the disappointment of that FA Cup semi-final loss to rivals Liverpool at Wembley last Saturday.

"David has been there 10 years and what he has achieved in that time is phenomenal," said Ferguson.

"He has not had the financial resources of other clubs with the same type of history but he has managed to do it time and time again.

"It defies logic with the squad he has had to deal with.

"He always gets results and keeps his team in the top half of the league.

"It has been amazing."

The Mail on Sunday can reveal that England's key striker is one of 10 Manchester United players on Pearce's latest list for London - which has infuriated United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson claims that with many Premier League players expected to be involved in the Games, clubs' preparations for the new season - which starts only seven days after the Olympic final in London on August 11 - will be reduced to 'absolute chaos'.

And Ferguson was staggered to learn that Rooney's name was alongside those of teammates Ryan Giggs, Ashley Young, Ben Amos, Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Michael Carrick and Jonny Evans as Olympic possibles ahead of Tuesday's draw for the competition.

'It's ridiculous, utter chaos,' said Ferguson, who will also be losing players to the FA for the European Under-19 Championship. 'I have no idea how badly other clubs are affected but I would imagine Tottenham will have a few, like Gareth Bale. Aston Villa have a lot of younger players as well - that is all Alex McLeish needs.'

Ferguson's anger has been provoked by Pearce's apparent desire to keep all his options open for the Olympic tournament, despite confirming in December:

'We have agreed that any player who boards the plane to the European Championship in Poland and Ukraine will not be considered for selection to Team GB.

'It's a sensible football decision when you consider the demands on players, and it now leaves no room for doubt for players and their clubs about next summer and the two major tournaments.'

Pearce does not have to name his 18-strong Team GB squad until July 8, seven days after the Euro 2012 final in Kiev. But England's participation in the tournament could be over long before then, even as early as their final group game against Ukraine on June 19.

With Rooney banned for the first two group games, the United striker faces the prospect of playing as little as 90 minutes at Euro 2012.

That would leave him still comparatively fresh, despite a heavy workload with United this season.

The Olympic organisers, with an eye on ticket sales for the football tournament, would love Rooney to take part.

The 26-year-old has already expressed enthusiasm for being one of the three over-age players Pearce would be allowed to include in his squad. But there will be a huge outcry from United if Rooney is picked.

The Olympic men's football final will be played at Wembley just 24 hours before the regular 2012-13 season begins with the Community Shield.

The Premier League kicks off the following weekend on August 18 and the FA are trying to organise an England friendly in Switzerland on August 15.

United have yet to confirm their summer tour schedule but they are in advanced negotiations to play in China and Korea and have discussed the feasibility of playing extra matches in South Africa. The absence of star players such as Rooney would be certain to disappoint the club's sponsors and commercial partners.

Ferguson said: 'We've got 10 players nominated [for the GB Olympics team] as well as David De Gea and Javier Hernandez. It's serious. This is the start of the season we're talking about. We'll be left with only one senior goalkeeper because Ben Amos has been nominated by Team GB and De Gea will be at the Olympics with Spain. The FA might also want five of our players for a European Under-19 tournament. We were intending to take them on pre-season tour. It's absolute chaos.'

As Ferguson indicated, five of United's promising teenagers, including Will Keane and Ezekiel Fryers, will be required for the Under-19 Championship in Estonia in July.

England will play their final qualifying games in May but are expected to reach those finals. Ferguson will not be able to withdraw United players from the Olympics because the tournament has been officially endorsed by FIFA. But the world's governing body cannot force players to participate.

'I have no jurisdiction - it is up to the players themselves,' said Ferguson. 'But if the players don't want to go, there is nothing they [Team GB] can do.'

But the United striker has spent the week berating himself for what he regards as a below-par display against Aston Villa last weekend, even though he scored twice in a 4-0 victory.

'I've always said I don't play football just to score goals, I want to play well and enjoy it,' said Rooney.

'I watched the Villa game back and obviously saw it wasn't my best performance. I always watch games back and I'm quite critical of myself. I think that keeps me going.'

Ferguson would love to have him around next season but is keen not to put any pressure on the midfielder.

'I'm not going to ask him until the end of the season. I don't want to put anything in his mind at all,' said the United boss.
'He's relished playing again this season. He's taken that opportunity and he's been marvellous.

'He's 38 in November. He brings a calmness to the game and he dictates the tempo of matches for us. He's been doing that since he came back. I must admit that was a break for us.'

London - Gol akrobatik Wayne Rooney ke gawang Manchester City di musim 2010/2011 terpilih menjadi gol terbaik sepanjang sejarah Premier League.

Gol yang dibuat Rooney tersebut terjadi saat MU menjamu City dalam lanjutan Liga Inggris musim lalu. Mendapat umpan lambung dari Nani sisi kanan, Rooney melakukan tendangan overhead dengan kaki kanannya sambil membelakangi gawang.

Bola yang dia tendang mengarah ke sisi kiri sudut gawang Joe Hart. Kiper The Citizens itu bahkan sama sekali tak bergerak saat bola merobek gawangnya, Di akhir laga The Red Devils menang 2-1, dan di akhir musim MU akhirnya menjadi juara.

Gol Rooney tersebut dapat suara mayoritas dan terpilih sebagai gol terbaik sepanjang sejarah 20 tahun Premier League. Dikutip dari Reuters, gol tersebut mendapat pilihan suara paling banyak, yakni sebesar 26%. Rooney mengalahkan gol Denis Bergkamp (16%) dan Thierry Henry (15%) yang ada di posisi dua dan tiga.

"Saya tumbuh dengan menyaksikan Premier League, jadi terpilih sebagai gol terbaik sepanjang sejarah Premier League meninggalkan perasaan hebat. Saya ingin berterima kasih pada Anda semua para fans yang memilih saya," sahut Rooney.

Penghargaan gol terbaik ini merupakan bagian dari perayaan 20 tahun Premier League. Beberapa kategori lain yang akan diumumkan pemenangnya secara bertahap setiap pekan di antaranya adalah pertandingan terbaik, penyelamatan terbaik, selebrasi gol terbaik.
