Ferdinand praises retired Neville and says United 'funny' man will be missed at Old Trafford
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/02/18/article-1358228-0D053DEC000005DC-887_306x450.jpg
Rio Ferdinand is the latest big-name Manchester United player to heap praise on retired team-mate Gary Neville.
The veteran right-back quit the game earlier this month and has already started working with United's academy players in an effort to complete his coaching badges.
Neville acquired the reputation of being a militant presence in the dressing room and once advocated strike action over Ferdinand's omission from the England squad .
This was after it was revealed the centre-half had failed to turn up to a drugs testing session which ultimately saw him landed with an eight-month ban.
However, Ferdinand has seen a different side to Neville and says he will be missed around Old Trafford.
'Gary was tremendous,' said Ferdinand. 'He had great determination and drive and could deliver fantastic crosses.
'I remember the first time I joined up with an England squad, Gary would be doing his own stretches whilst the manager was talking to the players before training.
'People used to take the Mickey out of him for that. But it just shows you the length he would go to in order to maximise his potential.
'That sort of behaviour earned him a reputation as somebody who was very serious. But he was a really funny bloke and we will miss him in the dressing room.'
Ferdinand seems unlikely to be in United's side to face non-league Crawley in the FA Cup fifth round at Old Trafford tomorrow.
He has not featured since injuring his groin in the warm-up ahead of United's defeat at Wolves a fortnight ago.
Although with a Champions League trip to Marseille looming next Wednesday, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson would hope the 32-year-old is not sidelined any longer.
Changes are anticipated, with goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard hopeful of making his Old Trafford bow.

Gary Neville the pundit: the case for and against
After retiring from football following 20 years of loyal service to Manchester United Gary Neville is expected to find a new home on Sky Sports' expensive pundits' chairs. Telegraph Sport assesses what he would bring to the role.
By Thom Gibbs
PROS:
Not short of an opinion
Trenchant opinions make for exciting punditry, and Neville is unlikely to be another blank canvas of blandness à la Jamie Redknapp. Told Michael Vaughan in a Telegraph interview that the press and FA were hypocrites: "One minute [the press] will do an article with you saying there is no passion in football. Next week they go around saying they want to ban you for three matches, fine you a hundred grand because you have celebrated a goal. It's mixed messages and a lot of it is driven by the press. It raises the question of whether the FA are strong enough to step away from it and look at it for what it is. There is no real consistency in the response." Also upset Carlos Tévez so severely ahead of a Manchester derby in 2010 that the City striker called Neville a "bootlicking moron".
A modern face
Andy Gray played in the 1980s - the decade before Sky Sports invented football. Neville's career began in 1992 - Sky's Year Zero - so the appeal is obvious for the broadcaster. Also played with many current pros, which means he is likely to use nicknames: a big plus.
Could conceivably work across several sports
Gary's father, the wonderfully named Neville Neville, played cricket for Lancashire and Gary himself was supposedly good enough to make a career out of the game. Surely Gary picked up a good enough a working knowledge of the sport to make the dream pairing of Neville's gruffness alongside Michael Holding and David Lloyd a reality? In the unlikely event of Sky deciding to take netball out of Eurosport purgatory Gary could also call on his sister Tracey, who represented England in the sport.
CONS:
Cannot be used for any games involving Liverpool
Nothing would be worth the ire of thousands of furious Scousers if Neville was ever allowed near a Liverpool game. Once told a United fanzine "I can't stand Liverpool, I can't stand Liverpool people, I can't stand anything to do with them." He riled Liverpool's fans further by running half the length of the pitch to celebrate wildly in front of them after an injury time winner scored by Rio Ferdinand in 2006.
Facial hair
In Richard Keys, Sky have just lost a presenter known primarily for his extraordinarily hairy hands. Distracting on normal TV, disturbing in HD, Keys' hands were downright terrifying in 3D. Neville also struggles in this area, currently wearing the most suspicious sporting moustache since the IAAF's unscheduled morning visit to Caster Semanya's house. The prospect of watching Neville's lip-warmer in one dimension, never mind three, is unlikely to provoke a surge in upgrades.
May stir up a worker's uprising
Neville's loyalty is best exhibited by being that rare thing in modern football, a one-club man. But he's also proved himself loyal to those alongside him to the point of being a disruptive influence. Before Euro 2004 Neville led the England squad in threatening to strike over Rio Ferdinand's ban for missing a drugs test. What happens if Jeff Stelling is suspended after footage leaks of him calling Paul Merson rude names? Despite their best efforts with the presenters of Sky Sports News, Sky is some way off being able to replace its workforce with androids.

Mr Reliable calls it a day
Gary Neville has brought the curtain down on a magnificent career.
http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Football/Pix/pictures/2009/7/10/1247218709339/Gary-Neville-001.jpg
Neville made 85 international appearances, becoming England's most capped right-back.
The 35-year-old was one of the pillars on which Manchester United's Premier League dominance over the last two decades was built, winning eight titles between 1996 and 2009. Add to that two Champions League trophies, three FA Cups and two League Cups and you have a player who retires with few regrets.
Neville also appeared for his country at two World Cups and three European Championships, with a broken foot preventing him from playing in the 2002 World Cup and making a hat-trick of appearances in football's greatest international event.
"I have been a Manchester United fan all my life and fulfilled every dream I've ever had," he said.
"Obviously I am disappointed that my playing days are at an end, however it comes to us all, and it's knowing when that time is and for me that time is now."
Best Crossers
Indeed, injuries took their toll in the latter years. Neville inherited the captain's armband from Roy Keane in November 2005, but within 18 months suffered a broken ankle in a challenge with Gary Speed during a Premier League match against Bolton Wanderers.
Although he eventually returned to the United side and repeatedly battled back from a series of muscular complaints, he was never the same player, having lost that yard of pace and the likes of Wes Brown, John O'Shea and Rafael were chosen at right-back more often than not.
Neville, who made 400 Premier League appearances, will be remembered as a player who truly realised his potential. Not only has he been one of the most consistent defenders since the Premier League's inception in 1992, but a genuine asset going forwards, regarded as one of the best crossers in the game when in his pomp.
Granted, goals were not his forte, and he was rarely on the scoresheet after netting his first United goal in a 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough in May 1997. Seven strikes in 602 matches demonstrate that his strengths were certainly at the other end of the pitch, but his average of three or four assists a season aided United in their numerous Premier League assaults.
Possible Route
His first-team career began in a September 1992 Uefa Cup tie against Torpedo Moscow and ended on 1st January 2011 as he helped the Red Devils defeat West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. In-between, he made it into the PFA Team of the Year on no fewer than five occasions.
"Gary was the best English right-back of his generation," United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said.
"He is an example to any young professional, hard-working, loyal and intelligent."
Ferguson's Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger feels that Neville is the best right-back the Premier League has seen.
"If you look at his record, he has won absolutely everything and with the number of games he has played, he is without a doubt the best," said the Frenchman.
What next for Neville? Many believe he could excel as a pundit, while coaching cannot be ruled out either. Administration within the Professional Footballers' Association is another possible route.
If he demonstrates the same endeavor and professionalism he did as a player, Neville will surely thrive in whatever he chooses to pursue.

Planning permission: The house Gary wants to build
MARY HANNIGAN
THERE WAS excellent news for Gary Neville last week when the planning committee of Bolton’s Council supported his plans to build a €9 million futuristic home on moorland near the border with Bury.
Neville was gutted when his application was turned down last year because of the committee’s concerns about the height of a wind turbine he had included in the plans, and that the house would be built on greenbelt land.
But he agreed to lower the height of the turbine to a mere 100ft, resubmitted his plans, and bingo – he just needs government now to give the go-ahead and he’s up and building.
According to the Manchester Evening News, “the house will take the shape of a flower with rooms like petals flowing from the centre. The majority of the home will be underground so moorland will be able to flow across its roofs.”
“Disgusting,” shouted protesters when the decision was announced at Bolton Town Hall, and if you saw the plans for the thing you might be inclined to agree. Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and the gang would love it, though, because it bears an uncanny resemblance to their Teletubbies home.

'Gantikan Fergie?

Neville: Mourinho Gantikan Ferguson?

Neville: Tekel Carragher Tidak Perlu Dibesar-Besarkan

Pensiun, Gary Neville Ingin Jadi Suporter
Bola.net - Bek veteran Manchester United, Gary Neville, resmi mengumumkan pensiun dari dunia sepak bola pada Februari lalu.
Neville memutuskan pensiun meski musim 2010/11 belum berakhir.
(mutv/zul)

Gary Neville will play one final game at Old Trafford next month when he steps out for his testimonial against Italian giants Juventus.
The former Manchester United captain announced his retirement from the game in February after making more than 600 appearance for his boyhood club and winning numerous honours.
In celebration of Neville's illustrious career, Old Trafford will play host to a friendly clash with Juventus on Tuesday 24 May. And the Reds legend says he's already relishing the opportunity.
"I'm delighted to be given this game by the club," Gary said.
"It's going to be a very emotional night for me, especially as I pull on that red shirt once more in what will be my last game for the club. I intend to savour every moment and I hope the fans can share in my special night."
Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson is very much looking forward to the occasion, adding: "Gary has been a loyal servant of Manchester United and this is a fitting tribute to honour Gary and his career.
"It also gives fans the opportunity to show admiration and appreciation for a player who's very much one of them. We've had many great games against Juventus in the past and I'm sure this will be another memorable night."
United chief executive David Gill is in full agreement. "It will be a great occasion to be enjoyed by all. Gary is one of Manchester United’s true professionals and we look forward to hosting Juventus in celebration of a career that has spanned more than 20 years."
Gary confirmed he will use proceeds from the testimonial to support sustainable projects within the community, while he also has plans for supporter initiatives at home and abroad. More information on this will follow in due course.
The club will be selling tickets for the game on behalf of Gary’s Testimonial Committee. To book, please call the ticket office on 0161 868 8000. For more information on hospitality packages email conferenceMANUTD.co.uk

Neville Jadi Duta Besar United
Arya Perdhana - detiksport
http://images.detik.com/content/2011/04/09/72/Neville-isi.jpg

Can Gary be Neutral Nev in new role as a Sky Sports pundit?
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/04/08/article-1374936-0D6DAD92000005DC-105_634x315.jpg
Neutral Nev is not a name that sits altogether comfortably with Gary Neville or the supporters of Manchester United's rivals who have come to know him as Sir Alex Ferguson's lieutenant over the course of a decorated playing career.
It is the biggest obstacle he now faces as a Sky Sports pundit, and one perhaps not helped by the announcement that he will combine his new job with a role as an Old Trafford ambassador.
But as the former United and England veteran prepares to launch himself into a new career off the pitch, he spoke with typical candour on a variety of subjects yesterday ranging from the growing threat to United from Manchester City to his feud with Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney's ban and the removal of Rio Ferdinand as England captain.
The man they called Red Nev insisted that United will remain the dominant team in English football irrespective of City's emergence or the outcome of next week's FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
He said: 'We've seen it before with Blackburn. We saw it with Leeds, we saw it with Chelsea and we see it now with City and Tottenham.
'There have been loads of clubs who have thrown money at it over the last 15 years. Some of them have been successful and some haven't. All I know is that United have remained successful throughout that period.
'The reality is that the club still stays, this club doesn't move, it continues and does what it does.
'When the current owners who bought City came in, you recognised they would throw a lot of money at it. You know what's been coming for two or three years. You just hope you can always keep them at bay.
'The credentials are there but the reality is you have to do it on the pitch. You have to win a game. They know they'll have to beat Manchester United to win the FA Cup. It was the same last season (in the Carling Cup semi-finals).
'I wouldn't say it's a lesser game for either club. But how, as a Manchester United player, can you think about City when you've got a European Cup quarter-final against Chelsea here on Tuesday night?
'The players are quite cold about it. There's no point getting carried away with the emotion of it all: trying to stop City's domination and stop them winning things. That's a bit of an irrelevance. It's noise to be honest with you.'
Neville insisted that he bears no grudge towards Tevez despite their falling out last season. The United player aimed an obscene gesture at his old team-mate as the Argentine celebrated scoring in the Carling Cup semi-final, and Tevez later called Neville a 'bootlicker'.
Relations between the two clubs were already strained after Tevez's appearance on a City billboard poster, but Neville said: 'I like Carlos and I would shake his hand because he was someone who was very successful at United.'
Neville also warned that United know enough about Tevez to stop him at Wembley, adding: 'He is their best player and has been their most important player for the last couple of years. But our lads are very good defenders who know Carlos.
United's most lethal weapon will be sitting on the sidelines on Saturday, and Neville added his voice to the Old Trafford protests that Rooney has been singled out over his two-game ban for swearing.
'We know that,' he said. 'There is just a sort of disbelief at the reaction. He did not deserve a twogame ban. He's missing an FA Cup semi for swearing, and that's a dangerous precedent.
'You can't ban someone for swearing on a football pitch for two matches. If you do, I think you have to ban every player who gets caught on camera swearing. How do you police it?'
Neville also criticised Fabio Capello over the handling of his decision to reappoint John Terry as England captain in place of his old United team-mate Ferdinand.
He said: 'It seemed strange that Capello, a man of great experience, said after the Denmark game that he finally understood the importance of the England captaincy but then dealt with it in the way that he did. At United it would be unusual for something as big as the captaincy to be handled the way it was through the press.
'If it was leaked out purposefully, that would be unforgivable. If it dripped out in another way it would be sloppy. You deal with the player first. It would never happen at this club. But England is a different kettle of fish. It's a circus.'
Impartial or not, it would appear that life will never be dull with Neville behind the microphone.

Neville: FA Tidak Konsisten!
Sabtu, 9 April 2011 - 07:07 wib Okezone
http://therepublikofmancunia.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/GNev1.jpg
MANCHESTER - Tak satupun pihak Manchester United yang menerima hukuman Asosiasi Sepakbola (FA) Inggris pada Wayne Rooney. Gary Neville pun turut mengecam keputusan FA.

Neville: Abuse from fans never bothered me but some players have to react
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/04/09/article-1375277-0B8CE75F00000578-580_634x418.jpg
Gary Neville has always said that he was a Manchester United fan who would have stood on the Stretford End if he had not been wearing the shirt of the club he joined when he signed schoolboy forms 25 years ago. Only now is he beginning to understand the indignities that can entail.
He was recently in London enjoying his retirement from football on the day that United took on Chelsea in the Premier League match at Stamford Bridge.
'I was with three or four friends and they wanted to go to the match,' said Neville. 'I said, "We'll just go and sit with the fans. I'm not going to get three or four tickets in the directors' box". I probably could have got a ticket myself but I just wanted to sit with them and watch the game. We went in but we got in 20 minutes late because they wouldn't let us in ...'
Hitting back at faces in the crowd: Rival fans are to blame for players letting their emotions get the better of them, claims Gary Neville
Neville resisted the temptation to pen a stern letter of rebuke to the authorities for the inconveniences the fans had to endure. But more than most professional footballers, however, he has always had a genuine affinity for fans and their culture, even if witnessing it close up can be a little alarming.
'I enjoyed it, apart from the result. It was an experience for me. I've not done that for a long time. I did it, I think, at Leicester 10 years ago while I was still playing. It's brilliant. You hear everything that they say and you think, "Bloody hell, they were saying that about me a few weeks ago!"'
So on Saturday, Neville will set off with 80,000 fellow Mancunians relishing the prospect of the first ever meeting of the city's two famous football clubs at Wembley Stadium. Sheffield, Liverpool and even Hull, albeit for rugby league matches, have used the national stadium for a local derby in the past but never Manchester.
On this occasion, he may travel with the team but he is, of course, retired - as of February - with just a testimonial match against Juventus on May 24 left in his competitive calendar. He is handling the transition well at present, though it took a few weeks for some old instincts to be suppressed.
'Since I finished, for the first few weeks I would go back into the changing room for a game,' he said. 'But I think that I made a conscious decision probably four or five weeks ago to say, "No, I'm not a player any more. There are enough people in the changing room before a game, the players don't need me to be down there, they know what they're doing. I can watch the game and let them get on with it".
'They're really experienced, good people who are coming to the biggest part of the season with a great manager and a great management team around them, and it was right for me just to step away now. My career as a footballer has ended. I don't feel I need to be down there.
'I'm just happy that I can watch the game. I went to Chelsea and Fulham - I'll go on Tuesday, I'll go to Wembley on Saturday. I'll go to most of the games until the end of the season and enjoy them and want them desperately to win.'
Neville insists that he is 'really content' with his decision to retire. 'I don't feel in any way, shape or form that I'm missing out,' he said. 'I've enjoyed the past few months watching the games and getting off the bike, if you like, and just relaxing.
'Because the character I have been for the past 20 years, I've always been on edge and I feel relaxed now. I feel like, not the pressure - I don't like using the word pressure because it's been a great privilege and a great enjoyment - but you're on edge when you play for this club because of the standards expected every single match.
'Everything means so much to the fans you're playing for, to your team-mates, to yourself, to your family. Everything is so big and I've not got that any more. And I feel quite relieved about that.'
Not so relaxed, though, that his opinions have dulled. Next season he will be a pundit for Sky Sports. Had he been one last weekend, he would have been required to offer an instant judgment on Wayne Rooney's profanities to camera.
'I would have said that in a perfect world you would prefer not to see players swearing on camera and, to be fair, he came out after the game and apologised,' said Neville. 'But the reality is that you see it in every single football match and you cannot take the instinctive reaction and emotion away from a footballer when he scores. It was ridiculous that Wayne got banned for swearing. I accept the fact that it's never nice to see. My Nan didn't like to see me swear and she told me continuously throughout my career not to swear, but I would say, "I don't even know I'm doing it".
'Whether it's football played on a park on a Sunday, or in front of five million TV viewers, it's all about reaction. It's your culture and this is the working-class element of it.
'The bit I don't get is that when a player shows a bit of passion or emotion back, he is criticised. I think that's what football is about - it's from the roots of the working class, to whom the game is their life.
'When there is so much at stake you will get emotion and passion and with that comes incidents, whether that be a fight, swearing or a bad tackle - it will always be there and you'll never get rid of it.'
In terms of showing a bit of emotion back, nothing will top Eric Cantona's karate kick at Selhurst Park, the common theme being the level of abuse players such as Rooney, Neville and Cantona endure in games.'
If you asked 100 per cent of football fans, not Manchester United fans, what they think about that incident, they probably have a level of respect for Eric for doing that,' said Neville. 'Because they think, ''well yeah, the guy was having a go at him''.
'All right, you can't condone a player going in the stands and doing what he did, and he got punished for it. But the reality is that's life. That's what football is.' To be fair to Neville, as one of the most-baited players, he is not unduly worried by fans' behaviour either. Confronted with the notion that abuse from fans has increased to unacceptable levels in recent years, he is sceptical.
'I'm not sure about that,' he said. 'You could say that personal abuse of players is ridiculous and wrong, and in an ideal world you'd get rid of all abuse but if you're a United player and you're playing away from home, you know you're going to get some.
'It's part and parcel of football and it has happened throughout history. If you're a Chelsea player, a Newcastle player, a City player or a Liverpool player going to away grounds, you're going to have to take abuse.
'It never got to me. Once you get used to it, and you get used to it pretty quickly playing for United, you can cope with it.
'When you're a youngster at United, that's the early test of your character and temperament. Sir Alex Ferguson wouldn't put you in the team if he thought you would be affected by abuse. If you're a sensitive person, don't be a footballer.
'You're going to get abused and criticised on fans' forums, radio phoneins, websites and everything else. It goes with the ride, I'm afraid.'
Now Neville will have a chance to vent some terrace anger at players at Wembley on Saturday.
'It's an incredibly massive match for the city, with 80,000 people from Manchester,' he said. 'I just hope we retain the standards and level of performance we've shown recently.
'Hopefully the win at Chelsea last week will prove a really big moment for us because it took us to different level. To go there in a Champions League quarter-final and play like that at a ground where we haven't had great success... to do that was brilliant.'
Despite the epic nature of the encounter, he insists the players will have to avoid the mindset of those fans who would revel in stopping City merely to preserve the 35-year hiatus their rivals have endured since winning a trophy.
'It's important we stop City winning the FA Cup this season because we want to win it ourselves, nothing else,' said Neville.
'The driving force is not always to stop City's domination, it is to win the football match, to win the trophy for that season. If you start getting involved in your mind as a player - and I'm still thinking of the player mentality here - and you start thinking of the other stuff, you drive yourself nuts because there have been other clubs over the years like Blackburn, who invested heavily 20 years ago, and Chelsea and Tottenham, now City.
'There will always people who invest in football clubs to try to create a Premier League champion. We just have to perform at our standard. Our course as a football club is set. We always try to do things the right way, our mission doesn't change.'
For now the club are still spoken about in the first person. Next season, as a television pundit, that will have to stop, but it will surely be some time before Neville can revert to referring to United in the third person without checking himself.

Neville Tak Sesali Keputusannya Gantung Sepatu
(espn/row)

Gary’s testimonial match to boost charities
COMMUNITY charities in Bolton are set to benefit from former Manchester United star Gary Neville’s testimonial game next month.
http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/resources/images/1196255/?type=display
Mr Neville, aged 36, who retired in February, is expected to lead United out at Old Trafford for his final time against Italian giants Juventus on May 24. He has pledged to use the money raised by the match for community projects and supporter initiatives in the UK and abroad.
Mr Neville, pictured, said: “It is going to be a very emotional night for me, especially as I pull on that red shirt once more in what will be my last game for the club. I intend to savour every moment and I hope the fans can share in my special night.’’ United boss Sir Alex Ferguson praised the former England right-back, who spent his entire career with the Reds, making more than 600 appearances. He said: “This is a fitting tribute to honour Gary. It also gives the fans the opportunity to show their admiration for a player who is very much one of them.”

EKSKLUSIF: Gary Neville Tentang Duo Da Silva, Paul Scholes, Gelar Ke-19 & Chicharito
Bagaimana perasaan anda sekarang mengenai keputusan pensiun anda?
Apakah saudara kembar Da Silva layak menjadi pengganti anda?
Manchester United berpeluang besar memenangkan gelar ke-19.

United legacy will serve us well for the title, says Gary Neville
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/05/07/article-1384692-013564B200000578-787_468x286.jpg
Gary Neville says that the experience of players such as Edwin van der Sar, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes will tip the title race in United's favour.
The former England and United full-back, who has a testimonial match at Old Trafford against Juventus on May 24, said: 'The manager has a very good mix of players around the squad, with six or seven above the age of 30, six or seven from 24- 30 and then eight or nine from 16-24.
'The balance just continually moves on, as the mid-tier players become the experienced players.
'That's something Sir Alex Ferguson has always kept. At the start of the season there was myself, Wes Brown, Darren Fletcher, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Darron Gibson, Jonny Evans, Rafael and Fabio. That's nine players who have come through the ranks.
'Then there are another group who are British, like Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Rio Ferdinand, who have understood the club for a long time.
'Then you then mix that with the foreign players who have great experience like Nemanja Vidic, Van der Sar, Patrice Evra.
'You have a good mix through the squad because that's really important.'

Class of 92 to reunite for Gary
Some of the stars of the Class of 92 are to be reunited at Gary Neville's testimonial against Juventus on 24 May.
Nicky Butt and Phil Neville will take part in what promises to be a special occasion at Old Trafford in the build-up to the Champions League final with Barcelona at Wembley.
David Beckham has been invited to jet over from the United States but his participation has still to be confirmed, while fellow former youth-team alumni Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs will play.
Gary said: "I couldn't ask for more than to have all my friends back for one last time, if possible it will make the night even more special for me and I hope the fans will enjoy seeing them back too.
"They were special times for us, we were young lads fulfilling our wildest dreams and hopefully we will get to experience that again against Juventus."
The former right-back's brother Phil, now with Everton, added: "I am so excited to be going back to Old Trafford to celebrate what will be an amazing night for my brother. I am looking forward to playing with my brother and my friends one more time. It will be an emotional night for all the family but what a fitting way for Gary to bow out of a fantastic career."
And ex-midfield dynamo Butt is also looking forward to turning out in front of the Reds supporters for one last time.
"When Gary asked me to play in his game I immediately said yes, especially when I heard that the class of 92 were going to be there too," he enthused.
"It was a special time for all of us growing up and it is only now as you look back that you actually see what an amazing story it is. I am sure the fans will give him and the rest of us a great reception, as they mean the world to him."

Lagu Diparodikan, Noel Ancam Gary Neville
http://media.vivanews.com/thumbs2/2009/02/04/64660_noel_gallagher_300_225.jpg
VIVAnews - Rivalitas Manchester United vs Manchester City mendapat tambahan bumbu penyedap.
"While we're living, the dreams we have as children fade away.' Not if you support United!" atau diartikan "Sementara kita hidup, impian yang kita miliki sebagai anak-anak memudar.
(eh)

"It was a special time for all of us growing up and it is only now as you look back that you actually see what an amazing story it is. I am sure the fans will give him and the rest of us a great reception, as they mean the world to him."

yg pasti MUTV bakal nyiarin
karna score ga penting
yg penting kesannya untuk game terakhirnya gary
makanya hampi claas of 92 temen2 seangkatan gary diajak

It will be great to have the old guard Beck together for my testimonial, claims Neville
By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER

Gary Neville is crossing his fingers old friend David Beckham will make his testimonial night perfect by donning the Manchester United kit once more.
Beckham is due to give a formal response next week but all the indications are the former England skipper will play against Juventus on May 24, a repeat of the epic 1999 Champions League semi-final.

Beck in the day: Neville (far left) will be delighted to be among old friends for his testimonial
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
It would complete a full 'Class of 92' line-up, with Nicky Butt and Phil Neville already accepting an invitation to join Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, who remain members of Sir Alex Ferguson's first-team squad.
'I couldn't ask for more than to have all my friends back for one last time,' said Neville. 'It will make the night even more special for me and I hope the fans will enjoy seeing them back too.
'They were special times for us, we were young lads fulfilling our wildest dreams and hopefully we will get to experience that again against Juventus.'
Prior to Beckham's exit for Real Madrid, the five players had been involved in countless trophy-winning exploits since their emergence en-masse in 1995.

Making his point: Beckham (right) is expected to feature at Neville's testimonial against Juventus
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Although they had all made their debuts before that, it wasn't until then that Sir Alex Ferguson gave the first indication he was so convinced about their qualities he was prepared to make them the bedrock of his team.
Respected pundit Alan Hansen was not impressed, famously declaring: 'You win nothing with kids.'
Six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the European Cup, which capped an unprecedented Treble in 1999 proved the folly of Hansen's words and ensured 'the Class of 92' earned an indelible place in English football history.
'One of the greatest privileges of being a manager is playing a part in the development of young players - watching them grow in confidence and ability,' said Ferguson

In the stands: Neville announced his retirement earlier this season
----------------------------------------------------------------------
'I have been fortunate to work with many exceptional young players, but the class of 92 was unique.
'For so many of them to stay together and succeed at the highest level is a great tribute to their talent and this club's belief in the power of youth.
'I am convinced that no group of players will ever make such an impact on the English game as those boys have done - and continue to do.'

Gary Neville Donasikan Laga Testimonialnya

Neville launches fans’ HQ
Former Reds captain Gary Neville has confirmed he will put some of the proceeds from his testimonial match (http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_llcp7vU4RY1qc7p6d.jpg) towards a proposed new building for United supporters close to Old Trafford.
http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_llcp62skxR1qc7p6d.jpg
http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_llcp7vU4RY1qc7p6d.jpg
Located just off Sir Matt Busby Way and adjacent to the Manchester Ship Canal, the exciting new development would be able to accommodate up to 1,500 fans on matchday and is a vision Neville has had for some time.
“I always thought that if I was ever lucky enough to have a testimonial I wanted to create something special for the fans,” explained Gary.
“That something for me was a place where the fans could meet and share their love and passion for Manchester United. A place for the fans to call their own, to congregate and meet with like-minded people. A place to talk and breathe all things football.”
“The fans have supported me throughout my career and hold a special place for me, so this is my way of showing my appreciation for all those years of support. This project really excites me, it epitomises the essence of being a fan.”
Neville hopes the building will be open for business at the start of the 2013/14 season and while this remains a private venture for the Reds’ legend, he has the full support of United.
“The location will give fans a great view of their favourite stadium and the design of the building will greatly enhance the skyline of the area.”
More of the testimonial proceeds will go towards two other projects Gary is supporting.
“I’m going to do something for the Manchester United Supporters’ branch in Malta because they’re very close to my heart and there will be some sustainable projects announced in the next couple of days as well,” added Gary

Gary Neville : "The facility in Abu Dhabi is absolutely fantastic"
Neville spreading United skills in UAE

Manchester United defender Gary Neville may have hung up his boots this season, but he's still involved in a variety of activities at the club.
The former England international has joined the likes of Bobby Charlton after recently taken on the role of a club ambassador, and one of his first acts was to visit a soccer school in Abu Dhabi.
Neville, who famously graduated from the Red Devils' academy alongside the likes of David Beckham, was impressed by the facilities and coaching on offer to the kids, and believes the same footballing lessons can be taught all over the world.
“The facility in Abu Dhabi is absolutely fantastic – it’s a credit to United’s name,” Neville told the official Manchester United website.
“I did a little bit of a session with the kids, spoke to the coaches and understood what it is that they’re doing over there. The work that the coaches are doing is brilliant.
“Young players taking part in the Soccer Schools programmes are taught in the same way that United players like myself, Ryan Giggs, and Paul Scholes were taught."
Sir Alex Ferguson's side have a handful of soccer schools across the globe, with Singapore, Australia, South Africa and Canada also benefiting from such facilities in various continents.

Neville beating drums for Man United Fire match
Retired Man U captain likes direction of U.S. soccer
By Jack McCarthy, Special to the Tribune
6:04 p.m. CDT, June 11, 2011
It wasn't an artful throw but at least Gary Neville went the distance, and then some.
Appearing at Thursday night's White Sox-A's game at U.S. Cellular Field, the retired Manchester United captain's honorary first pitch sailed past home plate toward a protective screen, scattering some unaware Sox staffers in the process.
"I was told to aim high, you don't bounce it," he said. "I threw it over (the catcher's) head and it just kept going. It didn't dip."
Neville laughed off the errant throw, but his other pitches were right on target during a whirlwind 24-hour Chicago tour talking up soccer and next month's Fire-Manchester United clash at Soldier Field.
The final stop was fitting as he chatted about Man U football and other soccer topics Friday with about 70 fans in a crowded back room at the Globe Pub on the city's North Side.
The English Premier League championship trophy — he has helped win eight of them — glinted at Neville's left while the surrounding walls featured scarves representing top programs from around the world.
"I still have a role with the club," said Neville, a right-back who retired in February and now serves as a United ambassador. "It has been (my) heart and soul for 25 years. … It's what I know best and what I speak most passionately about. That's what I hope to do in the future.
"I've experienced the great highs (as a player) and feel very content I had a good career. I have no regrets and am happy I can enjoy a life away from (playing) professional sports."
A 36-year-old Manchester-area native, Neville made more than 400 appearances for United. He helped the Red Devils not only win a series of top EPL trophies, but also three FA (Football Association) Cups, two European Cups, an Intercontinental Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.
He also appeared in 85 games for the English national team between 1997 and 2005.
Neville said soccer's U.S. profile continues to rise despite many other sports and entertainment options competing for attention.
"There are so many other sports that are generally quite specific to the U.S.," he said. "I think it's a gradual process, I don't think there's any quick fix. I think the introduction of David Beckham and Thierry Henry and other superstars have helped (along with) the improvement of the U.S. national soccer team.
"There is a good principle that you have in MLS in regards to bringing in young (players). ... It's about building a foundation and doing it the right way."
An estimated 50,000 tickets have been sold for the July 23 Fire-United game. It's part of a broader 12-game Herbalife World Football Challenge that runs through early August.
"We've played many games in the U.S. against Celtic or Barcelona, but it's always good to play against the local teams," Neville said. "You get the local families and fans get to see their team play against the world's great teams."

Gary Neville: Room for Ashley Young and Nani at Manchester United
http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv189/zudomiriku/zudo%20II/114920392_crop_650x440.jpg
Gary Neville believes there is plenty of space to accommodate Ashley Young and Nani at Manchester United next season.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson's acquisition of Young from Aston Villa last month led to questions being raised as to whether fellow winger Nani - who enjoyed his most impressive campaign to date for the Red Devils in 2010-11 - might look to move on from Old Trafford.
The Portugal international subsequently said he welcomed the signing, though, and former United captain and right-back Neville, 36, is confident neither player will find their opportunities limited next term.
Asked if he was surprised Ferguson had recruited Young in light of Nani's form last term, Neville told Press Association Sport: "Not really, because you look at last year when Antonio Valencia got injured.
"He was out for about six months and then, particularly when Park Ji-sung went away to play in the Asian Cup, we really were at times short on the ground in those positions.
"Ashley Young is someone who can play left and right and off the front - so can Nani and so can Park.
"There are plenty enough positions and games for them to share around."
Neville - who retired in February - knows from his past battles on the field with Young what the 26-year-old England midfielder offers and is backing him to get even better as a United player.
"He can give you a very tough time, particularly because he can go both ways," Neville said.
"He is very flexible in the way he plays and I think that now, with the expectation level at this club and the top players he will be playing around in the Champions League, it will take him to that next level in his development as a football player."
Young is set to make his first appearance for United tomorrow when Ferguson's side take on New England Revolution in the opening match of their tour of the United States, and Neville feels overseas pre-season trips are ideal for getting new signings settled.
"It is perfect for bedding in new players - to get them used to all the squad, travel with them, go out for a meal together," Neville said.
"It is something that has been brilliant in doing that for the last 15 years.
"Ashley Young in some ways will have been nervous this last week or so coming into the changing room, but coming out the back of the tour, he will be fully comfortable with the team.
"It is a great squad anyway for that; they always look after new players and make you one of their own."

EXCLUSIVE: Moving on: He was their heartbeat for two decades, now Neville reflects on United's future
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/07/28/article-2019926-0D2F5C2900000578-344_634x560.jpg
Gary Neville does a nice line in self-deprecation, happily accepting that, compared with him, the rest of his family come across as far more affable individuals.
‘I’m not much of a people person,’ he says with a wry smile before insisting it is simply a case of needing to know him better.
But then he spends the next 40 minutes demonstrating the opposite, revealing a human quality that might not seduce residents of Merseyside but may surprise those who have sometimes struggled to see beyond the combative, combustible, often snarling figure who played with such distinction at right back for Manchester United and England.
Talking to Neville has always been fascinating. Journalists would gravitate towards him at major tournaments because nobody, particularly during Sven Goran Eriksson’s tenure as manager, could articulate what it meant to be on England’s journey better than Red Nev.
Sometimes he would answer a question with what amounted to a rousing speech. Other times he would challenge his inquisitor with the same ferocity he would tackle an opponent.
Now, however, he is more relaxed, busy applying the finishing touches to what promises to be a marvellous autobiography. Planning life with his young family in his eco-friendly house. Five months after announcing his retirement and launching a career in the media, he is also quite the charming ambassador for the club he has served for more than 20 years, providing an insight into life at Old Trafford he might not have offered had he still been playing.
He is particularly interesting when it comes to discussing Sir Alex Ferguson and the relationship the manager has with his players.
It seems he is regarded as something of a father-figure. Often tough and uncompromising, yes. But also extremely supportive. The first person United’s players go to in times of trouble, or when they feel they have reached a crossroads in their career.
Ferguson, says Neville, was the first person he went to when he started to think his 36-year-old body could not endure much more punishment.
‘I’d had conversations with my wife and my mum and dad,’ he says. ‘And I spoke to Scholesy and Ryan Giggs too, because we have shared most things over the last 20 years.
'But, professionally, the first person I spoke to was the manager. It’s how it works at United. If you have a problem, something you need to talk about, you go and see the manager.
'And I think I was in his office for about an hour and a half that day. He told me to go away and think about it, and sent me away on holiday.
‘There’s never any problem with him in that respect. You can see him about anything. If you feel you have a crisis in your life he will make sense of it all. And he’ll look after you and make sure it is dealt with correctly.
'Sometimes in the media it is questioned, the way he protects his players. But they are his people. He looks after them.’
They look after themselves too. There is a hierarchy at Old Trafford. Below Ferguson a senior player who often acts as a conduit between the younger members of the squad and a manager they might still find a touch intimidating. Not least when it comes to asking for a new contract. For the past few years that player had been Neville.
‘Some players will get their representatives to go to David Gill, the chief executive,’ he says. ‘But most would go to the manager because, quite honestly, if he said you weren’t getting a new contract there’s no point taking it any further.
‘I know the manager still looks over all the young players’ contracts because I’ve done quite a few with him over the last few years for those players. It’s an experienced player role and something I did for a few years.
'When I was younger it would be Bryan Robson doing it, or Brian McClair. A young player might be nervous going to see the manager, so they come to you for help.
'I did the same. I went to see Bryan Robson about my very first contract and Brian McClair helped me, Butty and Scholesy with our second contracts. I’m not sure it’s normal at all clubs but it’s normal here.
‘It’s still like a family here. As big as the club is, as much as it might seem like this huge corporate entity, it has always had this family feel.
'The people here, like the manager, seem to go on forever. The faces haven’t changed in 20 years. It’s the same kitman; the same secretaries; same girls in the laundry.
‘You can talk to them about anything, and at the same time you can also deal directly with the manager and David Gill.’
Neville will work as an ambassador for the club and, in serving the club’s commercial department, he has joined his former colleagues on the club’s pre-season tour in the US.
But he has had to cut all ties with the dressing room he once skippered because he understands only too well how United’s players view those who move on. Once out of sight, they are quickly out of mind, adhering to Ferguson’s philosophy to always look forward.
‘For a couple of matches after I retired I went into the dressing room on match days, but it didn’t feel right,’ he says. ‘I thought, “I need to get out of here”.
‘I was no longer part of the dressing room. My job had been done. It wasn’t my place any more. It’s like a holy place. It’s their place. The team’s place and I was no longer part of the team.
'At United former players are quickly forgotten. I might have cropped up in the odd conversation but, like all players, you are forgotten when you leave. You go back a few months later and you see your peg’s gone; your name’s gone. You’re out of there.
‘When I went in the dressing room that couple of times, I felt like I was invading their space. You feel a bit insecure.
'It’s wrong because I had been here for nearly 20 years. These are my mates and we’ve experienced so much together. But it’s their space now, and you don’t want to be hanging around like a bad smell.’
From a distance, he continues to marvel at the work of Ferguson. ‘It’s a phenomenon happening in front of us, and you have to recognise that while it’s happening,’ he says.
‘It’s the same with Ryan Giggs. You never thought this club could produce another Matt Busby and a Bobby Charlton but they have. It’s amazing.
‘You can’t appreciate the determination, spirit, will and talent that the manager possesses to do what he does. At 70 years of age. You hear managers of 40 talking about pressure.
‘This guy is managing the biggest club with the most expectation; the greatest amount of pressure; the biggest crowd. Everything is huge in this club. And yet he still has the same fight and determination, and he doesn’t really look like he’s aged one bit. It’s incredible.’
With the arrival of Ashley Young, Phil Jones and David de Gea, Neville sees another great Ferguson team emerging; a team that will meet the challenge laid down by Barcelona in last season’s Champions League final.
‘I think last year a new team was evolving without people realising,’ he says. ‘Rafael, Fabio, Smalling, Hernandez, Nani coming on massively. And this year you’ve got Jones, Young, De Gea. That’s eight players.
'And at the same time you’ve seen the likes of myself, Edwin van der Sar, Owen Hargreaves and Scholes move away. John O’Shea and Wes Brown too.
‘That’s six what I would call stalwarts, real core players, so this is definitely a period of transition.
‘After the Champions League final the manager would have been thinking he needed to build a team that, over the next three years, can compete with this Barcelona team.
‘We have been there before, in ’96 with Juventus. People tend to forget what it was like then. They had been to two or three European Cup finals. They were battering us. For the first two years they took us to school.
'In ’94 and ’95 there were some sobering experiences in Europe: Barcelona; Galatasaray. Then we got to ’96 with Juventus. But by ’99 we had caught them.
‘And that’s what will happen now. Barcelona won’t be there for ever. You’ll see Real Madrid, Manchester United and other teams improving to get to their standard.’
‘What you saw in that final was an absolutely brilliant team performance: one of the best teams you are ever likely to see.
‘We’ve been in that position where we’ve been superior to other teams. But other teams catch up. Chelsea overtook us for a couple of years. Arsenal did too. There will be a positive response here too.’
He sees so many similarities between now and the 90s. ‘People talk about the ’99 team like it just happened that year. But that team evolved over three or four years.
'This team is evolving now. The 2008 team didn’t just happen, and that was a team that was as good as the ’99 team. Beating Barcelona, beating Chelsea in the final.’
Ferguson, he says, is ‘the master at delivering teams’ and taking new players to the next level. ‘Look at Yorke and Stam,’ he says. ‘Look at Smalling and Hernandez; Vidic, Evra, Rio, Rooney and Carrick.
‘I think Ashley Young could be an example of that. I think people will be talking about how cheap United got Phil Jones a year from now.
‘Ashley Young is around better players now. No disrespect to those he has worked with before but he will get the ball more often, in better areas, delivered to him better. And he will be playing with better finishers. It will make him better. At the same time United demand more from you as an individual.’
Now United are demanding something rather different of Neville. In his role as an ambassador he has to promote the major tour sponsor, DHL.
He does so by revealing how useful the express logistics company can prove when United players are on tour. Apparently they like to shop for more than they can squeeze into their kit bags. ‘Anything,’ says Neville, ‘from handbags to large pieces of furniture.’
I suggest he has a greater calling. That he has long appeared destined for a major role in football rather than a job as a pundit for Sky and a United schmoozer.
‘From what I’ve seen, players who have gone straight into management haven’t had a lot of success,’ he says. ‘It’s tough, particularly for British managers.
‘I want to take a year or two to see how I feel about things. I want to stay involved in the game. I want to stay involved with the club.
'But what I don’t want to do is take on the next major challenge in my life 10 minutes after finishing as a player. I don’t want to jump straight from the roller-coaster to the waltzers.
‘I’ve made a conscientious decision that doing the media work keeps me watching the big games while the ambassadorial role keeps a connection with this place, because I love it here. I’ve been here all my life.
'Will I one day want to be a manager? You mentioned the PFA. Maybe something like that will come along that I’m interested in doing. But what I don’t want to do is dive straight in without a break.
‘Will this satisfy me, stimulate me? I’m looking forward to it actually. I’m looking forward to watching 40 to 50 of the best games in the Premier League and the Champions League. I’m looking forward to doing the work with United. I think it’s a sensible decision I have made.’
It is, and he is very impressive in both roles, but this is a guy who can continue to make a contribution. Perhaps as a manager but maybe with the PFA or the FA.
One only has to listen to him on player loyalty. Or on those recent comments from Scholes, who suggests the England team are undermined by the personal agendas of players motivated only by self-promotion.
‘It’s easy for me to say I was loyal because I led the perfect existence here,’ he says. ‘I was in a sporting utopia, playing for a team that is 20 minutes away from where I grew up, a team I supported as a kid, and playing with my best mates and my brother and winning trophies every year. Why would you leave?
‘But I can’t judge other players. There is a small minority you could probably describe as mercenaries. But most players are just looking for what’s best for them and their families, the same as anyone in any other walk of life.
‘The only difference is the fact that footballers get criticised for it, and for the money they earn, when tennis players, Formula One drivers and golfers are never even questioned. No one ever mentions how much they earn. I think it’s because football is still seen as this working-class game and people can’t accept the money involved.’
And Scholes? ‘I would agree with him,’ he says. ‘I think there’s a lot of self-protection and I think most of the players who have been around England for the last 20 years would recognise what he’s saying.’
And if they don’t like Neville for saying it too, you get the feeling he’s unlikely to be too bothered.

Blackburn bosses plan surprise £5.5m summer swoop... for Gary Neville’s house!
By Sportsmail Reporter
Blackburn owners Venky’s have sanctioned the first major transfer of the summer… for Gary Neville’s £5.5million mansion near Bolton.
The former Manchester United skipper is flogging his four-floor, seven bedroom house and the Rovers owners plan to snap it up.
The Indian-based firm plan to run their UK operation from the home once they have completed the purchase of the house which has been on the market for over 12 months.
The Raos family, who own the chicken-farming company, plan to move into the 90-acre property dubbed Neville Neville Land, but will need a gardener to alter the shrubs which are shaped to say ‘United’, according to the Mirror.
Along with the seven bedrooms come six bathrooms, an atrium, a gym, a large swimming pool and a cinema. There’s even a two-bedroom cottage on the site if there’s extra people staying over.
Neville announced his retirement from football earlier this year, taking up residency in the commentary box as pundit with Sky.

Gary and Emma Neville
He was never one to shirk a challenge on the field and now former Manchester United captain Gary Neville is getting stuck in to another battle off it with planning bosses.
He is having a second crack at building a restaurant in Swinton – after it was initially turned down by planners.
The new bid comes after the TV pundit won his appeal to build a ‘tellytubby’ eco home on moorland between Bolton and his native Bury earlier this year.
The 36-year-old, from Bury, has re-submitted a plan to Salford council bosses through the development company he runs with his father, Neville.
They want to demolish the former Folly Lane ARLFC social club, which has been empty for four years, and create a 6,000 sq ft eaterie over two floors.
The father-and-son team were denied permission in January when, even though planning officers recommended approval.
More than 200 neighbours objected over parking and potential noise issues and the plan was rejected by councillors.
This time, opponents have pointed out that there are 78 restaurants within a one-mile radius of the site.
Despite their objections it will once again go before the planning committee with recommendation for approval.
The planning document for the Station Road site points to a reduction in the number of ‘covers’ – diners it can sit in one go.
If successful Neville will be following in the footsteps of former United team mate Rio Ferdinand.
He opened swanky Italian restaurant Rosso on King Street in Manchester city centre in 2009.

Sir Alex is the man who can make or break you
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/08/27/article-2030848-02E9A422000005DC-474_634x327.jpg
I’ve heard it said that a manager can’t do anything once the players have crossed the white line. That’s b*******. Our boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, has a massive effect on the team whenever a match is on. You can feel him in your head. You’ll be thinking: ‘Christ, I’ve got to go and face him at half-time. I’d better start playing better or he might rip my skull out.’
He’s in control. He makes or breaks your career. He decides whether you get to enjoy your Chinese meal and glass of wine with your family after a match or you sit there in miserable silence.
It was at Anfield that I first saw what people call ‘the hairdryer’, although the players never referred to it as that.
‘You’re slipping!’ the boss shouted at Peter Schmeichel. ‘So are you,’ the big goalie replied, just in earshot. Everyone looked up, thinking: ‘Oh my God, here he comes.’ And sure enough, the boss ripped Peter’s head off.
Then there was the time in 1994 when we got thrashed by Barcelona at the Nou Camp. At half-time the boss ripped into Paul Ince. At one point Brian Kidd [Ferguson’s assistant] half-stood, ready to intervene, thinking it was about to go off.
When Ince finally left in 1995, plenty of people wondered what the boss was doing. After the disastrous conclusion to the previous campaign, he’d wielded the axe.
Incey was off to Inter Milan, Andrei Kanchelskis was next out but the big shock was Sparky [Mark Hughes]. I was in my car when I heard on the radio that he’d left for Chelsea. I was as stunned as any Stretford Ender.
The influence and intensity of the boss has never dimmed, even as he approaches 70. So it’s amazing to think he was planning to quit in 2002.
As we went into that season, we were counting down the days until his retirement. Then Jaap Stam was sold. The players were mystified.
All kinds of conspiracies swirled around because Jaap’s exit came on the back of his ‘controversial’ autobiography, although I’ve always believed the book was a minor factor, perhaps irrelevant.
I know the manager wasn’t thrilled about it and nor was I at being called a ‘busy c***’.
Jaap had called me that to my face many times and I know it was meant affectionately but it didn’t look quite so clever spread across the newspapers.
All that counted was that the manager had lost confidence in him. He thought Jaap had lost a bit of pace. Even if that was partly true, he remained an immense presence for us in defence. It was a strange decision, made more bizarre when Laurent Blanc, a class act but clearly past his best, arrived as Jaap’s replacement.
There aren’t many big decisions you can point to and say the manager called that one wrong. But when in February 2002 the boss revealed that he wouldn’t be retiring after all, we were all very happy deep down.
I say ‘all’ but Dwight Yorke’s face dropped because he was being left out and he could maybe start afresh under a new manager. The boss had barely left the room when Roy Keane piped up: ‘Well, that’s you f*****, Yorkie.’
The manager’s decision to stay was a massive boost but it came too late to save a domestic season that was full of inconsistencies. The upside was Ruud van Nistelrooy’s form. He was a proper goalscorer — and the only team-mate I’ve almost come to blows with.
We were playing at Middlesbrough and I hit a ball down the channel. Ruud threw up his arms in the air, as if to say ‘What am I meant to do with that?’ I ran forward. ‘Run after it, you lazy b******.’
After the game I was sitting in the corner taking my boots off when Ruud came flying towards me, swearing his head off. ‘Don’t f****** shout at me on the pitch!’ I tried to push him away. The lads jumped in and separated us. Things simmered overnight but we shook hands the next day.
He probably thought I was a hairy-arsed, English right-back while he was the heir to Van Basten. Chasing the channels wasn’t his strength and in some ways he was right.
We had been looking strong at the start of the following season but even in the most successful campaigns, there always seemed to be a game when it all went horribly wrong. That season it came at Maine Road in November. We lost 3–1, and the boss was steaming. You could see him looking around, ready to explode.
Then Ruud walked in with a City shirt slung over his shoulder. He’d been asked to swap on the way off and hadn’t thought anything of it.
But the manager did. ‘You don’t give those shirts away. Ever. If I see anyone giving a shirt away they won’t be playing for me again.’
In February we’d been knocked out of the FA Cup by Arsenal but it wasn’t the result which caused a massive stir.
In the dressing room, the manager blamed Becks for one of the goals. Becks disagreed, answered back and the manager erupted. He wheeled round, saw a boot lying on the floor and kicked it like he was blasting for goal.
He was facing Becks but there is no way he meant to kick the boot into his face. I’ve seen the boss in training; if he tried it a thousand times, he couldn’t do it again. But the boot hit Becks just above the eye, cutting him. He put his hand up and felt blood. So suddenly he was standing up, too, and raging.
For a second the gaffer was dumbstruck, which isn’t like him. I think he knew that hitting a player with a boot, even by accident, was a bit extreme. He apologised straight away: ‘David, I didn’t mean to kick the boot in your face.’
Becks wasn’t having any of it. A few of us had to keep them apart. The incident was all over the front pages. Change seemed inevitable.
We won back the Premier League trophy in 2003 but it was the end for Becks. It wasn’t the way he wanted to leave but he would get to play for arguably the only club in the world as big as United, Real Madrid, where he would be a huge star alongside Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo and Roberto Carlos.
A natural changing of the guard was brewing again in 2005. But it was hard to see what might bring change about — until Roy Keane’s infamous ‘Play the Pundit’ programme at the end of October on the club’s own channel, MUTV.
A 4–1 hammering at Middlesbrough had left us trailing in the league to Chelsea. Roy was wound up because he felt the younger players were falling short. He’d see them on their PlayStations and he couldn’t get his head around it. The programme was pulled by the club. The story leaked out and the press were all over it.
The manager prides himself on keeping troubles behind closed doors. He called everyone to his office to clear the air. The place was crammed. We watched the tape and, as Roy would claim, parts of it had been blown out of all proportion.
The tape finished and the talking began, which is when things got really bad. It didn’t take long for the conversation to get very heated. I realised it was all over. Roy and the manager weren’t speaking to each other and it couldn’t go on like that.
As Roy prepared to make his comeback with me in the reserves, one of the backroom staff told him he wasn’t playing. He must have known the end was imminent. The next day Roy was gone.
It was in a Champions League match in 2007 when I had my most serious confrontation with the manager. We scored from a quick free-kick while Lille were assembling their wall. After protesting to the ref, they started walking off.
‘Come on, get on with the f****** game,’ I said to their captain, following him towards the side of the pitch. The next thing I knew the manager was charging down the touchline, shouting at me. ‘What are you doing? Get back on!’
As far as I was concerned, I’d been doing the sensible thing, trying to get everyone to get on with a game we were now leading. So I snapped back — ‘F*** off’ — and walked away.
Now, I’ve said ‘f*** off’ a million times to a lot of different people but never to the manager before. I knew I wasn’t going to get away with it. Afterwards I got a call to go and see the boss in his office. He was apoplectic. He blitzed me.
We were playing at Fulham at the weekend and he took me all the way down to London and didn’t even put me on the bench. Three days later he took me down to Reading and left me in the stands again. The trip was a total waste of time but the boss had asserted his authority. I wouldn’t be swearing at him again.
It will be a very sad day when the boss finally bows out. The next manager of Manchester United will have to be bold — and he’ll have to have balls.
I TOLD WAYNE: YOU'VE GOT TO APOLOGISE
In October 2010, Wayne Rooney stunned everyone by deciding he wanted out of Manchester United.
Then, before our Champions League game against Bursaspor, he put out a statement saying the club lacked ambition and the squad wasn’t good enough.
He’s a good lad, Wayne, not a troublemaker, so we were dumbfounded.
Next morning, I saw Wayne at the training ground. ‘What are you doing?’ I asked. ‘I’m staying,’ he said. ‘F*** off! Really? Well, if you are, you’re going to have to apologise.’
I don’t think he needed telling. Within 24 hours Wayne had called the players together and said sorry. He’d made a mistake and misread the situation.

Neville - Fergie would fail
Former England full-back claims Three Lions are not good enough
Gary Neville believes even Sir Alex Ferguson would struggle to lead England to glory, while he has also aired his own international frustrations.
The former Manchester United and Three Lions full-back claims his ex-club boss would have been unable to secure World Cup glory at last summer's tournament.
England crashed out at the second round stage in South Africa as they were humbled 4-1 by Germany.
Neville believes Ferguson may have been able to bring more out of the side than Fabio Capello, but claims there are a number of other nations currently considerably stronger than England.
He said: "Ferguson may have got more out of the squad.
"But the reality is, would we have beaten Spain in the last World Cup? No, because they were better than England."
Wasted opportunity
With 85 appearances to his name, Neville is England's most-capped right-back, but he has described his time playing for his country as 'a wasted opportunity'.
Only once during his career did England progress beyond the last eight - making the semi-finals on home soil at Euro 96, where they lost to Germany on penalties - and then Neville was not involved in that game.
"I loved playing for England, but we've fallen short and I've contributed to that over the last 10 years as much as anyone," he said.
"The analogy I use is, if a man takes a woman out 85 times and then she's not your girlfriend at the end of it, you've wasted a lot of time. You measure success by achieving things.
"We got to the quarter-finals, but that's falling short because we were not getting to European Championship and World Cup finals.
"Over the last 10 or 15 years, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal and Brazil have all been better than England.
"We need more players of higher quality who can keep the ball."

Gary Neville: 'The idea he is always ready to let someone have it, is wrong'
After two decades working with him, the pundit tells Ian Herbert there is so much more to Sir Alex Ferguson than 'the hairdryer.'
Sir Alex Ferguson is easily misunderstood. When the Manchester United manager suggested in Lisbon this week that Wayne Rooney couldn't entirely be compared with Pele because "he's white, completely white," the Portuguese press corps struggling with his Glaswegian accent thought he was talking about the striker's "weight". A diplomatic incident was only narrowly avoided.
The complexities of Ferguson's temperament are also not always best appreciated, viewed as they always tend to be through the prism of what he says in the five minutes after every match, snapping at a "stupid question" in Lisbon or growling about "typical Germans". One of the joys of Gary Neville's rich, new autobiography of almost two decades at Old Trafford, Red, is the precious detail it inks into our knowledge of his ways.
You wince when Neville starts up his story of how John O'Kane, the one member of United's legendary 1992 Youth Cup winning side whose career was a genuine disappointment, was picked by Ferguson to play at left-back in a Uefa Cup tie against Russian side Rotor Volgograd in 1995 but came in after the warm-up to ask the manager, 15 minutes before kick off, if he could play right-back instead. Then you learn that Ferguson acceded to the request. And while the manager's leniency about Eric Cantona pitching up in denim jacket rather than club blazer has always been presented as a one-off, he was evidently not initially much inclined to come down hard on Dwight Yorke, even when the stories – of cocktails balanced on his head, Yorke leaping over bars to help waiters – got back to Ferguson from his legendary network of contacts. "I know where you were last night," Ferguson would tell Yorke. "He turned a blind eye as long as Dwight delivered," Neville observes. Mark Bosnich was equally fearless, when tackled by Ferguson about his weight. "Boss, I'm just the weight I want to be," he'd say in return.
The O'Kane story is "probably not the best example" of the way Ferguson's munificence is overlooked, says Neville, with a wide grin, as he perches in a storage room before braving the queue for his book-signing which is snaking along the mall and up a staircase at the Trafford Centre. "Did I put in the book that he was subbed after 27 minutes?" O'Kane never played for Ferguson again and relied on another United for his best days: Hyde. "But you don't stay at Manchester United for 25 years and have the players that he has had by shouting at them," Neville insists. "You do have to show a personal side. If you asked me how much of his 25 years there has been spent angry, I would probably say 0.001 per cent. The rest of the time he is a manager. You see him 99.9 per cent of the time on the training pitch. Every day he is talking to players about football, different things, how it went with internationals, normal conversations. He does have a streak, there is no doubt about that, and I think everyone is aware of that and it is something. But this idea that he's always ready to let someone have it is wrong."
It is also Neville's observation that the home-grown players always got it hardest off him – with the defender always seeming to be simply "Neville" when on the receiving end. "What's happened to you, Neville? I'm only picking you... because you play for England," were the words of Ferguson's first eruption at him, after a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest when he actually thought he'd done quite well. Neville's questionable decision to tell Ferguson to "**** off" at Lille, after infuriating the manager by following protesting French players to the touchline, resulted in a loud reception in Ferguson's office, and a rather quieter penance. Two away trips, to Reading and Fulham, to sit in the stands. "I wouldn't be swearing at him again."
But Ferguson's critical – and until now relatively unknown role – in preventing the players' threatened strike, which Neville led, over Rio Ferdinand's omission from the England side to face Turkey in a Euro 2004 qualifier, revealed the less appreciated approach. A telling section of the book also covers Neville's debilitating loss of self-belief, when his form collapsed for six months after his disastrous second game in United's controversial World Club Championship appearance, against the Brazilian club Vasco da Gama. (Or "Fiasco da Gama", as Paul Scholes described it in the typically wry text Neville got from him after the game.)
Ferguson's assistant Steve McClaren involved the sports psychologist Bill Beswick in Neville's crisis. But Ferguson's response, not detailed in the book, was less intrusive and did not involve attacking Neville for the poor displays which beset him for six months. "He didn't actually say too much," Neville recalls now. "And when I say that I can think of a couple of managers with England who were constantly talking to you because they are worrying. He almost entirely leaves you to your own devices at times and lets you work your way out of it. You have some managers saying in a situation like that: 'I don't think you played well on Saturday, come on, get your confidence back'. What a waste of time that is from a manager to a player! 'Get your confidence back!' It's just time that lets you get your confidence back. It's like going through a personal problem in a relationship. It's time that lets it evolve. He knows things like that. He doesn't panic."
How many trophies England would have actually won with Ferguson is a subject Neville recently addressed in a BBC radio interview. The answer is none, but the Scot would not have fallen asleep during one of his staff's tactical talks as Kevin Keegan did when coach Les Reed was giving one of his lectures about the opposition during Euro 2000. "You could see [Kevin's] shoulder sagging, his nodding forward," Neville recalls in the book. "He woke up with a start and all the lads burst out laughing. It's unbelievable to recall that now, even though it was funny at the time... Under Kevin we didn't learn."
Neville's devotion to Ferguson makes it hard to imagine that even a memoir would disclose such a story, though the fabric of this book makes it equally hard to imagine that there ever was one. It was Ferguson's extraordinary eye for detail which led him to criticise Gary Pallister in the dressing room after Neville's brief debut as substitute, against Torpedo Moscow at Old Trafford in September 1992. Neville's only touch came when he took a throw-in. "Pally, have you ever watched the youth team. Have you not seen his long throw?" Ferguson demanded to know, after the 0-0 draw, preceding an away leg which would see United go out on penalties. "Then why weren't you in the box?"
The theme is picked up in the book's revelation that Ferguson's new fascination with orthoptics, working with Liverpool University's Gail Stephenson, helped inform his decision to demand his players shed the notorious grey strip after trooping in 3-0 down at half time at The Dell in 1996. "I didn't know at the time," Neville reflects in the book. "She would later work with all of us on our peripheral vision. She gave me eye exercises to do before a game and I'd work on them just like stretching my calves or hamstrings. Attention to detail."
Ferguson's work and influence in the dressing room is also revealed to be more multi-layered than some would imagine. Neville reveals how his team-talk is from 1.30pm to 2pm. "This is his moment," he says. "In later years we had a video to watch but the manager always spoke from handwritten notes... It's mostly serious, though sometimes he'll lighten the mood, often unintentionally. We'd always look forward to playing Aston Villa, to hear him mangle Ugo Ehiogu's name. 'Make sure you pick up Ehugu, Ehogy, whatever his name is.' We'd always chuckle at that one."
And confirmation comes that those who goad United off the field really do give Ferguson ammunition as he sends them out on to it. Patrice Evra's tangle with Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell in April 2008 is only one example. "Look at Patrice," Ferguson told his players in one dressing room talk soon afterwards. "He's 4ft tall and he's not afraid of anyone. He's not giving in to anyone. He's a fighter. Now, what about the rest of you?"
But it is what Ferguson does not say which will live with the player who spent 19 years observing him operating. "He won't overcomplicate it," Neville says, before heading into the throng of those clutching books. "He won't over-speak to you. If you said to me how many times a year over 15 years had he called me into his office, you are probably talking once a year until I was captain, and maybe he'd have a chat with me out on the training pitch – in passing. Before a game people might think he's ranting and raving. But he's always been the same – that five minutes, 10 minutes before you go out on the pitch he leaves you. He just stands there. He might say one or two things very rarely but generally he will stand at the door, looking out down the corridor, and then make sure he shakes everybody's hand. It's not a great deal of information and too much information but the information he does give you is right, I think."

Nasehat seorang legenda United untuk timnas Inggris :)
Neville: Inggris Harus Tiru Spanyol
(espn/row)

Analisa seorang legenda United nih ...
Gary Neville damning of England's Euro 2012 hopes
Gary Neville believes England are not good enough to win Euro 2012, saying they lack mobility and invention.
After Friday's 2-2 draw in Montenegro media coverage focused on Wayne Rooney's red card but Neville argued that England had more pressing worries.
"What we should be talking about is the spine of a team that has no mobility and can`t keep the ball," he wrote in the Mail on Sunday.
"The real issue is that the spine of the team is not good enough."
The defender, who won 85 caps for his country, pulled no punches in his assessment of Fabio Capello's side.
"When I look at it coldly, a team that has John Terry, Gary Cahill, Scott Parker, Gareth Barry, Darren Bent and Rooney in its central positions is nowhere near good enough to take on the major nations such as Spain.
"I"m not having a go at individuals; there are some very good players among those names. [But] Rooney aside, there is hardly any pace, very little invention and hardly any rotation of positions. Compare that with the spine of Spain: Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique, Xabi Alonso, Xavi, David Villa and Fernando Llorente."
England take on Spain in a friendly at Wembley next month with Neville keen to see a number of younger players given a chance.
"Let's be clear, England are not as good as Spain but you can't just accept they're better," said Neville.
"You have to find a way to stop them, to disrupt the rhythm and to hurt them going forward — because England need to believe that, in a one-off, they can beat Spain.
"The rest of Europe is watching and if Spain do what most people think they will do and destroy us, just like France did in February 1999 at Wembley when they were world champions, then England will go into Euro 2012 thinking they have no chance.
"There are younger players — Chris Smalling, Kyle Walker, Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck — who are mobile, talented and not tainted by previous failures.
"Somehow, Capello has to mould those with the more experienced players into a team to compete with Spain because the team that played on Friday would be well beaten. It's now time for Capello to be brave."

Manchester United's game plan shows Liverpool are still the toughest test
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/10/15/article-0-0E6213DD00000578-692_468x379.jpg
Some time ago, early on in my career, I played two games on the trot at Anfield and gave away two goals. It was just at the time when the chants of ‘Gary Neville is a Red’ had started up.
The nature of the game against Liverpool had become such a big thing in my mind that I didn’t relax.
I remember Sir Alex Ferguson having to remind me before one Liverpool-Manchester United match: ‘Remember, it’s just another game. Relax. The fans may be chanting your name, but you’re giving a goal away, costing us the game.’
It’s a little bit like that with Wayne Rooney. He’s from the city and, in addition to that, he has had a week where the focus and pressure has all been on him, with his three-match ban from Euro 2012 after being sent off in Montenegro.
Playing at Everton and Liverpool is such a big thing for him, having grown up with those people. I felt the same sometimes. You can’t remove the emotion from the game; you’re so hyped up to do well. But as a player you need to be composed.
What Sir Alex did by starting with Rooney on the bench was to respect the week that Wayne has had and take a decision that was best for the team.
Every time Wayne touched the ball, it would have lifted the atmosphere for the Liverpool fans. It’s an example of the man-management that makes Sir Alex so good.
I knew before the game that he would rotate the United team, ensuring that he wasn’t starting with players who had travelled halfway round the world with international teams.
And it would make sure he still has a fresh XI for matches in the Champions League and against Manchester City in the next week.
One of the signs of a great manager is when he respects the opposition and the atmosphere he’s going into and recognises the fact that he won’t be able to play 4-4-2 and be open.
The past few years have been a bad experience for United at Liverpool, with three successive defeats, and Sir Alex obviously wanted to make it more solid, with Darren Fletcher and Phil Jones in midfield. The way the game went until the first goal was exactly as United would have wanted it to have done, defensively.
There is no doubt that Steven Gerrard’s goal would have shocked United a bit and thrown them out of their stride. As a United player, if you go 1-0 down at Anfield you fear the worst, especially when they’re attacking down that hill towards the Kop.
Anfield is the toughest place that Manchester United go to, so Sir Alex will have gone home on Saturday night and considered the 1-1 draw a job well done. In fact, the biggest compliment you could pay Liverpool is that Manchester United went there with a game plan that made it a lot more difficult for the home team to play.
Liverpool have progressed, especially since Kenny Dalglish took over. There’s been an investment of £100 million under the new owners and I think they’re going in the right direction.
People ask the question: ‘How far are they from United?’ That’s not the question that should be asked at the moment. For this year they should be concentrating on getting back into Champions League football.
With United, Manchester City and Chelsea looking favourites to get the top three places, Liverpool look to be in a straight fight with Tottenham for fourth. That’s what should be their focus at present.
A club with the history and tradition of Liverpool really need Champions League football. That gives you extra cash, which means you can make more investment in the team. If you’re not getting those huge pay-days, it restricts what you can invest. Despite that £100m this year, they will need the cash that the Champions League will bring them to do that again.
Dalglish has definitely brought back an identity to the club after Rafa Benitez, when it became almost too Spanish. And it is a stronger team than it was two seasons ago when you can leave players like Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson and Craig Bellamy on the bench.
Gerrard coming back is a huge boost. Luis Suarez is a top player for them but Gerrard is the heartbeat.
shown they want to close the gap on their fierce rivals
They may not be at the stage where they’re going to be title contenders, they just have to take it a step at a time. But from there they can build a bigger, higher-quality squad and, like United, they can then afford to leave out big players for important games because they have more options.
But if they can keep the spine of the team — Pepe Reina, Jamie Carragher, Gerrard and Suarez — it will be fascinating battle for the fourth Champions League place.
For me, Wayne Rooney is an absolute banker for England’s Euro 2012 squad. Even though he’s banned for three games, it’s a no brainer: you take him to the tournament.
The idea of not picking him doesn’t seem plausible. If you’re taking four strikers, you’re most likely to be playing one up front and one just off him, which would probably be Steven Gerrard or Ashley Young against the better teams. So there will probably be three strikers out of four left out.
I’ve played in five tournaments and there would always be one or two of those strikers who wouldn’t even get off the bench in the group stages. I have never known them all to be needed.
As for the length of the ban, if it were in the Premier League, it would be three games, wouldn’t it?
It does seem harsh for what the offence was and you would want to know if they have done the same with other players.
But I don’t think the FA will tackle it. I think they will leave it as it is, as they risk having the ban extended.
As I said last week, if England have any real pretensions of putting together a run in the tournament, they ought to be able to get out of the group without Rooney.
Everyone might be talking about the Manchester derby next week, but City and United both have more important business ahead of that. They have made unspectacular starts in the Champions League and will have to get working this week.
Manchester City’s position is far more precarious because they are in a dog of a group and have only one point. While United take on Romanian club Otelul Galati away, City have Villarreal.
United played them three years ago and drew twice. Although Villarreal have started indifferently in the Spanish league, they’re an experienced side in this competition.
City have to start winning now. Any team can go away to Bayern Munich and lose but it’s the draw at home to Napoli — and the impression the Italian side made on them that night — that may cost them. This week will be the real test of their Champions League credentials.

City are title contenders but can they win at Old Trafford?
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/10/22/article-0-0E7CC55F00000578-865_634x470.jpg
Ever since Sheik Mansour took over Manchester City three years ago, the importance of this fixture has been building steadily and there can be no doubt that today’s match is now a genuine heavyweight clash of title contenders.
I said at the start of the season that City would have to play a better style of football, keep possession more and see more rotation of positions if they wanted to prove they were ready to fight for the title. In the first few months of the season, they’ve done that.
With new signings Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri joining David Silva, Edin Dzeko, Adam Johnson, Yaya Toure, James Milner and Gareth Barry, their movement has been excellent and some of their attacking play has been very good.
But now they face a big test. Can they go and play that way at Old Trafford? Can they keep the ball and play for long periods in possession, as they do when they’re at home, against one of the top teams? And can they overcome the mental barrier of going across Manchester and believing they are United’s equals?
Players like Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards, Barry and Milner have been going to Old Trafford for years and will have plenty of bad memories after being beaten there. Can they now change their mentality and, surrounded by better players in a stronger team, show they have progressed?
City now have to be courageous and not allow United to dominate. The reason teams let in so many late goals against United at Old Trafford — and City have conceded quite a few in recent years — is because United will make you work as they keep the ball. And when the final five minutes come, teams are tired and drained after playing on a big pitch.
What I would love to see is the systems the two teams played earlier in the season (top of the graphic) lining up today: full of creative players going for it. But my gut feeling is that what we’ll see is the two systems similar to those the teams have played more recently (lower part of the graphic) with robust midfields.
Gone are the early-season days of swashbuckling football with the sun on your back on perfect pitches. Temperatures have dropped this week, the clocks go back next week, and what I call the hard mid-season slog begins. New signings have settled in and teams have eyed each other up and now have enough background information to know all the strengths and weaknesses.
So I don’t think we’ll see champagne football today. It will be more like one of those heavyweight boxing clashes where you don’t see lot of punches but rather a lot of grappling and mauling to get one knock-out punch.
You saw signs of it last weekend when United went to Anfield with Phil Jones and Darren Fletcher in midfield, Ryan Giggs off the front and Park Ji-sung tucked in on the right. Sir Alex Ferguson will have looked at how they played in recent matches against Basel, Norwich, Chelsea and Arsenal and taken the decision, going to a place like Anfield, to make it more solid and concede fewer chances.
The early-season heavyweight clashes — the Community Shield between these teams, the United games against Arsenal and Chelsea and the City game against Tottenham — were shoot-outs. It was almost as if the teams had decided they were going to have a blast at each other.
Roberto Mancini has been so attacking these past two months, going for Dzeko, Aguero, Silva and Nasri in the same 11. But then on Wednesday against Villarreal in the Champions League we saw him withdraw Johnson and put on Barry to give his midfield a more robust look, even though they were trailing 1-0 at the time.
In the last week both United and City have added a little more caution to the line-ups. I think it’s because we’re getting into that part of the season where your solid, more reliable players will get you through that hard middle slog. It’s like a marathon race, where everyone watches the start, switches off for the middle part and then turns back on for the end.
The early-season excitement is over, there’s no cup to be won or lost yet and the winter months are coming. But this is where the foundations for league title wins are laid.
Where will the game be won and lost? Manchester City won’t have wide players, because I don’t think Johnson will play. Instead, they will use inside forwards, pack the midfield and look to go through the middle with the power of Yaya Toure, allowing Silva to get into those pockets of space between the midfield and defence. United will be the opposite and play with out-and-out wide players.
Because City probably won’t have wide players, it gives United the opportunity to attack the full-backs, who may be exposed with the lack of cover in wide positions. With Chris Smalling and Patrice Evra going forward, United could look to exploit the width of the Old Trafford pitch.
United will close off the midfield and have to tighten up and defend when City have the ball and expand quickly to attack. City will have to defend the width when United have the ball and then contract and get players into central areas, where they belong, when they have the ball.
But, ironically, in what may be a tactical game, the deciding factor may well be which team is prepared to take most risks. I’m not expecting a classic, but you won’t be able to take your eyes off it.
Balotelli still holds the key
You can judge a team’s title credentials by the strength of their third and fourth-choice strikers.
I thought Carlos Tevez would become a key player for City owing to his ability to come off the bench and change a game. That he’s unlikely to play after the club’s disciplinary process is a big blow.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Teddy Sheringham came off the bench to win the 1999 Champions League for United and look at the strength they now have with Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck, Berbatov and Owen. With Aguero, Dzeko, Balotelli and Tevez, City had similar depth, but without Tevez they look a bit weak.
Mario Balotelli, this is your time. City can’t use the same two strikers all the time. You must step up. But, after the latest escapades, you still need to convince people you have the maturity to be relied upon.

Gary Neville to launch autobiography in Malta
Gary Neville, England’s most capped right-back, – and Manchester United’s club captain for five years – will be coming to Malta to launch his newly published autobiography aptly titled ‘Red’.
The launch and book signing event will take place on Wednesday 26 October at Agenda Bookshop, at The Point Shopping Mall, Tigne. The event will start at 6pm and will go on till 7.30pm.
No player has been more synonymous with the glory years of Manchester United Football Club over the past two decades than right-back Gary Neville.
An Old Trafford regular since he attended his first match at the age of six, captain of the brilliant 1992 FA Youth Cup-winning team that became known as ‘Fergie’s Fledglings’, outspoken representative of MUFC, Neville is the ultimate one-club man.
He has been at the heart of it all and, at the end of an amazing career, now tells it all in this captivating book. Authoritative, insightful, fearless and never less than 100% honest, no-one has better credentials for documenting the story of United under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Neville reveals the behind-the-scenes secrets of his early days with the likes of Giggs, Scholes and his best mate David Beckham; what it was like to play with Cantona, Keane and Ronaldo; the treble in 1999; and of course an entire career of playing for the greatest manager in the game.
Then there are all his experiences with England, from being the youngest starter at Euro 96 when ‘football came home’, to the ups and downs of five major championships and seven managers – Venables, Hoddle, Wilkinson, Keegan, Eriksson, McClaren and Capello. There are opinions and analysis on Gazza, Rooney, WAGs and the true story of the FA and Rio Ferdinand.
For 20 glorious years, Gary Neville has worn his heart on his sleeve. ‘Red’ is his story.

Is it time for Capello to go with the next generation?
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/11/05/article-2058040-0EAE5D4500000578-547_306x417.jpg
Recently I saw something I couldn't have imagined happening in my day. At the end of Manchester United's 6-1 derby defeat against Manchester City, Micah Richards and Danny Welbeck were talking and laughing with each other.
To be honest, part of me found that strange. It's not what we would have done. The United players I grew up with were too dyed in the wool to have that kind of relationship with a player from a team that was a close rival. But part of me thought that it was a very promising sign for England.
I saw it again with Welbeck and Jordan Henderson chatting after the Liverpool-United game. The young England players coming through don't just exchange a handshake at the end of the game. They have a bit of banter, they probably text and tweet each other during the week and go out for a meal after games.
When I played for England, at times there were cliques and divisions between the clubs. As Arsenal, Liverpool or United players, we might meet up for the squad but we wouldn't then contact each other for months in between. With this generation it's different. They seem to have developed a real togetherness in the Under-21s. They actually seem to like being with each other.
This has implications for Saturday's England friendly against Spain and the squad selection for Euro 2012. Fabio Capello goes into next summer's tournament knowing it's his last four weeks of work with England. He's a professional but he's not going to be thinking about the next four years of English football. His priority will be those four weeks. But there is a different type of young player coming through for England now and I think they need to be encouraged.
The players from my era grew up watching average football compared with this generation, who grew up on Cristiano Ronaldo, Dennis Bergkamp, Gianfranco Zola, Eric Cantona, Thierry Henry, Fernando Torres: a different kind of football, a better quality of football. And you see the fruits of that in some of these younger players.
I'm talking about players such as Welbeck, Jack Wilshere, Tom Cleverley, Josh McEachran, Daniel Sturridge, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, James Milner and Kyle Walker. These are players who can move the ball well and play in the pockets of space in between the traditional lines of midfield and attack rather than just playing in straight lines and rigid formations. Just as importantly, they aren't scarred by the failures of England's past; they have energy and enthusiasm.
Don't get me wrong, you're going to need some experienced figures like Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard around. But it's a waste of time continuing with some players who have proven they aren't good at this level and others who have been good enough but probably aren't now.
I think the bulk of the squad this summer should be made up of players who can compete well at Brazil in the 2014 World Cup and maybe even win in France in Euro 2016. And someone at the FA should be communicating that to Fabio Capello.
Let's be frank: are England going to win Euro 2012? Don't get me wrong: it's not impossible, if everything went to plan and Rooney played well in the final games. But are they likely to win it? Would the young team I've selected do any worse than the one with older players in it? I doubt it. And there would be the bonus that they would have gained tournament experience and spent a month developing their relationships and team spirit.
This is a real opportunity to build on something that has been developed at Under-21 level. Here is a group of young players who seem to like being with each other on international duty, even though they're fighting each other at different clubs. England have to harness that. You cannot win a tournament without spirit. We always went into tournaments saying we had a good spirit and I genuinely believed it. But when you look back, was the team united enough to win a tournament? No.
Look at Spain's players. They love playing together. Gabriel Heinze would warm up for United games with an Argentina shirt on. Fabien Barthez and Laurent Blanc would be chasing each other out of the dressing room to get on the plane to play for France. I'm not sure we ever felt the same.
I loved playing for England and it was a great honour, but did we have that extra edge as a team? They talk about Club England but it has never really existed. The closest I ever came to it was in Euro 96, playing with Stuart Pearce, Tony Adams, Alan Shearer, Paul Ince, Paul Gascoigne and David Platt, who would be kicking the walls and shouting 'This is our turf' before the games.
Maybe the rise of the Champions League and club football has made England less important to players in the 15 years since then, although it doesn't seem to have damaged Spain, Germany or Italy in that time.
Maybe now England could build a side to match those nations' spirit, give these players their head, trust them and say: 'You're the ones who will dominate for the next eight years.' Because I look at that potential team for Euro 2012 and I think: 'You know something. They might actually have half a chance'.
They will certainly make an impression on the tournament, get England fans excited again and that would be a huge step forward. And it could even be the making of a team that could one day win a tournament.
25 years of a true innovator
This past week has been a great opportunity to salute a man who has been like a second father to me. On Thursday night there was a fantastic gala dinner for my old manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, to celebrate his 25 years at Manchester United.
Since I first met him, when he used to come and watch our schoolboy games, whenever you were in his presence, you knew this was a man of stature.
He has regenerated teams every three to five years, has never been afraid to take big decisions to nip problems in the bud and even in this modern era, with bigger squads and player power, he remains in absolute control.
He can also diffuse any potentially difficult situation. I remember the day I retired. I went in to his office to say I was finished. He replied: 'Typical Neville. Over-emotional. Go to Dubai. I'll see you in two weeks.'
People forget how many innovations he started. Squad rotation, having four strikers, playing different teams in the League and the FA Cup - he did all that in the early 1990s and was slaughtered for it, before everyone followed his example.

WWE wrestler wants to kick Gary Neville in the face
http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv189/zudomiriku/zudo%20II/wwe_wrestler_wants_to_kick_gary_neville_in_the_fac e.jpg
Two-time WWE Champion and large ginger Sheamus toured Anfield with fellow pro wrestler Ted DiBiase, Jr. (son of The Million Dollar Man) while in Liverpool this week. Sheamus is a fan of the club and, judging by the above photo, willing to do Steven Gerrard's punching for him when confronted by a DJ who refuses to play Phil Collins.
After the tour, Liverpool's official website asked Sheamus which footballer he would most like to perform his finishing move -- the Brougue Kick -- on. The answer was not surprising.
"I'd definitely like to 'Brougue Kick' that Gary Neville fella. I don't know what it was about him," the Irishman joked.
"I know he played for Manchester United and there is a big rivarly between Liverpool and them, but everytime you look at him he has an 80-year-old granny's face on him - he looks as though he's eaten 10 bags of lemons or something!
"So definitely Gary Neville, I never liked him at all."
He wants to fake kick Gary Neville's granny face. Got it.
Meanwhile DiBiase, who played both kinds of football at Mississippi College, told the site that he "almost made the [U.S.] national team at one point." Who knew?

Manchester United supporters were given a big treat yesterday at the Sunway Lagoon shopping mall as they had a chance to meet their hero Gary Neville in person.
Neville, who played at rightback for United and England gave away autographed Man United jerseys and car banners, and some of the 1,200 fans that turned up even had a chance to join Neville in the photograph sessions.
Neville also hosted a quiz session with the crowd, shared with them his favourite Mister Potato Crisps flavour (Hot & Spicy), played several fun games with fans while the rest enjoyed free Mister Potato snacks and Mamee noodles in addition to special product promotions.
“Wonderful idea, thank you Mister Potato for bringing Man Utd Legend.Having Neville here in Malaysia has been an absolute dream for Man Utd fans,” said James Kwan, from the Manchester United Supporters Club (MUSC).
“The event was beyond my expectations... meeting Neville was a dream come true. Mister Potato did an excellent job to ensure that everyone had such a memorable experience,” he added.
At the same time, according to Masrulsyazlie, president of the other official fan club in Malaysia, MyManUnited, the presence of Neville in Malaysia has brought great impact to the supporters as there were fans were showing up early in the morning just to meet the Man United legend.
He said that football is the only sport in the world, which bring people from all around the world together, as there were even supporters from Singapore, Thailand and other neigbouring countries present at the ‘Gary Neville meet the fans session’ yesterday.
On Neville, Masrulsyazlie said that he was one of the all time best players at United as he believes the Devils would not have achieved so much without his contribution to the team.
“For me, Neville is one of the best rightbacks that United and England had, and to replace him at the moment is impossible,” he said.
“On the pitch, Neville was a soldier and his never-say-die attitude has made him achieve so much with United. Neville is one of the few players I know since I supported United that retired playing with one club,” he added.

(dm/zul)

Offside! United block Neville hotel bid, saying plans are too grand
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/02/17/article-2102734-043CAC250000044D-267_306x423.jpg
Manchester United have defended their decision to oppose a planning application for a hotel and leisure complex at Old Trafford that has been submitted by Gary Neville.
In the build-up to his testimonial game at the end of last season, Neville confirmed his intention to create a bar for United supporters.
It was envisaged the scheme would be operational by at some point in the 2013-14 season and, at the time, United were fully supportive.
However, as plans have been reshaped, so United began to get cold feet.
And now they have lodged a formal objection on the grounds that the entire development, which includes a 10-storey 139-bedroom hotel and leisure complex, would be too big,
'The club has been developing its vision for the area over the last few months, following on from the very successful pedestrianisation scheme executed in July,' said a United spokesman.
'As part of that vision, we considered in detail the changes to the sheer scale of the new project proposed, as distinct to the original plan.
'We had some projections done of what the view of the stadium would be from various angles on the other side of Wharfside Way and have concluded that, on balance, we do not want a building of that size so close to the stadium.'
It now raises the bizarre situation of Neville, who celebrates his 37th birthday on Saturday and is forging an impressive career as a pundit with Sky Sports, being at odds with the club he represented for 19 years over a site for supporters.

Berarti kritikan Neville mampu memotivasi semangat Luiz untuk berubah. Hebat donk Neville :D
David Luiz Balas Kritik Neville
Ferril Dennys | Tjatur Wihary
Kini, statistik menunjukkan aku pantas diperhitungkan. Aku hanya mencoba menunjukkan yang terbaik," papar Luiz.
