4. OWEN HARGREAVES
Birthdate: 20 Jan 1981

Position: Midfielder
Appearances: 37

Joined United: 01 Jul 2007
United Debut: 19 Aug 2007 v Man. City (A)
International England
In his own words, it was “possibly the longest-running transfer saga” in football. But after a several months of prolonged pursuit, United finally signed Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich in May 2007 for a fee of around £17million.
The Canadian-born, England international midfielder’s stock had risen dramatically in the previous year, and by the time he arrived at Old Trafford, he had become one of European football’s most highly-thought of defensive midfielders, having won four Bundesliga titles with Bayern.
After an injury-disrupted start to his United career, Hargreaves came to the fore
in the second half of the successful 2007/08 campaign with a string of tireless and confident performances in midfield and also, on occasion, at right-back. He capped a satisfying debut season with a superb penalty in the Champions League final shoot-out victory over Chelsea.
But a recurrence of his knee problem – and a subsequent double operation in the USA – forced Owen to miss almost all of the 2008/09 campaign as he made just three appearances.
Born and raised in Calgary, Canada, Owen left for Germany aged 16 to join Bayern Munich. After earning his stripes in Bayern's youth ranks, Hargreaves made the step up to first-team football in August 2000.
It would prove to be a highly successful season as Bayern claimed both the 2000/01 Bundesliga title and the Champions League crown. Hargreaves remains one of only two English players to win the European Cup with a non-English club - the other being Steve McManaman.
The following season witnessed Hargreaves' breakthrough at international level. He would have been eligible to play for Germany or Canada, but opted for England and played his first full international in 2001.
Initially a squad player, it took until the 2006 World Cup in Germany for Hargreaves to truly be seen as a key man, and he was voted England Player of the Year in January 2007. So far he has played in two World Cups and a European Championships with his country.
Hargreaves brings vast experience to United’s midfield, as well as a determined, energetic and enthusiastic style. Partnering Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick or Anderson – or a combination of them – gives a well-balanced feel to United’s engine room.

Hargreaves Masih Lama Comeback
Andi Abdullah Sururi - detiksport

Munich - Kabar buruk buat pengidola Owen Hargreaves.

Hargreaves Berjuang Selamatkan Karir
Owen Hargreaves mengunjungi seorang spesialis di Muenchen untuk menyelamatkan masa depannya di Manchester United, demikian News of the World.
Meski demikian, Ferguson menyatakan tetap sabar menunggu. Banyak pengamat meyakini, sekali lagi menderita cedera, karir Hargreaves di Old Trafford berakhir sudah.

OWEN HARGREAVES CROCKED
United star faces six months out
NOTW
OWEN HARGREAVES has secretly flown to Germany in a bid to save his Manchester United career.
The England midfielder, 27, has been having treatment all week at the Munich clinic of top knee specialist Dr Hans Muller-Wolfahrt.
Hargreaves went to Munich after his latest setback and, although Sir Alex Ferguson said Hargreaves would return in 'two to three weeks', Muller-Wolfahrt told the player it could take SIX MONTHS.
During the visit it emerged that his tendinitis has 'similarities' to the condition of tennis star Rafa Nadal. Both suffer from the knee complaint because they base their games on short bursts of speed from standing starts.
Hargreaves, who had been at Dr Richard Steadman's surgery in Colorado, is expected to fly back to America this week for more rehabilitation.
But there are further trips planned to Muller-Wolfahrt as Hargreaves fights to save his career. The pair have a long-standing relationship from Hargreaves' time at Bayern Munich, where Muller-Wolfahrt is the club doctor.
The England star has not played for United since the 1-1 draw at Chelsea on September 21 2008.

Cr7lover berminat jd tukang pijat urut ? Saya dukung deh, soalnya mereka yg jd official tim MU pasti dibayar tinggi dgn poundsterling.

good news from Hargreaves
Hargreaves Pulih Sebulan Lagi

(GL)
Berikut daftar pemain Manchester United di Liga Champions:
Kiper: 1-Edwin Van der Sar, 12-Ben Foster, 29-Tomasz Kuszczak
Belakang : 2-Gary Neville, 3-Patrice Evra, 20-Fabio Rafael, 22-John O'Shea, 5-Rio Ferdinand, 6-Wes Brown, 15-Nemanja Vidic

September 03, 2009
OWEN Hargreaves is on the verge of a return after 12 months of injury hell.
The England midfielder has been included in United's squad for the first stage of the Champions League - with Sir Alex Ferguson expecting to have him available before the end of 2009.
Hargreaves had operations on both knees to cure tendonitis, which has kept him out since last September and was feared would rule him out until the New Year.
Meanwhile, Fergie is planning a swoop for Catania's Japanese sensation Takayuki Morimoto.
United are lining up a move for the striker at the end of the season.:wowcaem:

================================================== =======
Hargreaves back at Carrington
September 23, 2009
MANCHESTER United midfielder Owen Hargreaves took another step towards recovery from his knee surgery when he returned to the Reds' Carrington training complex on Wednesday morning.
The England star has been plagued by a tendinitis problem since before his £18million move from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2007.
Although Hargreaves did manage to get through his first season at Old Trafford, and play in the Champions League final win over Chelsea, when the problem surfaced once more at the start of last season it was decided to send him for groundbreaking surgery.
Under the guidance of renowned Colorado knee specialist Dr Richard Steadman, who counts Ruud van Nistelrooy among the players he has rescued from the trauma of ruptured cruciate ligaments, Hargreaves had operations on both knees.
The Calgary-born player has remained in the United States for an extended period of rehabilitation ahead of his return to Manchester.
The midfielder has been accompanied by the physios he has worked with across the Atlantic, who will now offer the United medical staff guidance as to the best way to manage his recovery.
Sir Alex Ferguson is determined not to rush Hargreaves' return, knowing the player could be a very influential figure if he does eventually regain full fitness.
However, he has been registered to play in the group stages of the Champions League, with Ferguson optimistic he will be fit for the last couple of games at the end of November and beginning of December.

Hargreaves Masih Lama Comeback
Andi Abdullah Sururi - detiksport

Munich - Kabar buruk buat pengidola Owen Hargreaves.
Moga2 bener2 Desember Hargo udah pulih total, amin.

However, he has been registered to play in the group stages of the Champions League, with Ferguson optimistic he will be fit for the last couple of games at the end of November and beginning of December.
wah berita bagus nih, tinggal sabar menunggu saja, maka lini tengah united akan smakin kuat! hehe nice one hargie!

Hargreaves back in a month
Owen Hargreaves returned to Manchester this week, and United's physiotherapists are assessing at what stage he is at in his recovery from double knee surgery to cure the tendonitis that has cursed his Reds career.
The good news is that, after more than a year on the sidelines, the 28-year-old midfielder is tantalisingly close to a comeback.
He will not be rushed, however, and the physio he has worked with during his rehabilitation in America has joined him at the Reds' training headquarters at Carrington, as United's medical staff look to ease him back into training.
"He's back, and hopefully the boy gets a break and continues his progress without any mishaps," Sir Alex said on Friday.
"He's been out for a long time, but he has the resilience to see it through. It'll take about four weeks to get back into the rhythm of training and to the point where we can consider him for match play.
"The physio he's been working with in the States has come to England with him. He'll stay for a week for the change over working with our physios. They're discussing what stage Owen is at."
A smooth return for Hargreaves is nothing more than he deserves after a torrid time out, and his return would be a major boon for the Reds. "The good thing is that he is young enough to come back from an injury like this," added the boss

Ferguson: Hargreaves Siap Beraksi
http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2009/09/26/0657217p.jpg
(SKY)

Owen Hargreaves hands Manchester United a boost as midfielder eyes November return
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/09/30/article-0-068F4DF5000005DC-692_306x443.jpg
Owen Hargreaves has made a positive start to his Manchester United comeback bid.
After more than 12 months on the sidelines following ground-breaking surgery on both knees to combat a tendinitis problem that has plagued the England star since before his £18million move from Bayern Munich, Hargreaves has now returned to United's Carrington training complex.
The Calgary-born star is currently in the middle of a handover process between his US-based physio, who has guided his rehabilitation so far, and the Red Devils medical staff.
Once that is complete, Hargreaves should then be able to continue his recovery programme at Carrington and begin football training within a couple of weeks.
If that goes well, the 28-year-old may be fit enough to resume his career in November.
Sir Alex Ferguson is acutely aware these are early days for Hargreaves, who could yet force his way into Fabio Capello's World Cup plans.
However, Ferguson confirmed Hargreaves' development is currently going according to plan.
'Owen is doing very well,' said Ferguson. 'Obviously he is delighted to be back because it has been such a long time and I am very pleased with his progress.
'We will probably get him into football training in 10 days' time and depending on how well he does he should be back at the beginning of November.'

Owen Hargreaves hands Manchester United a boost as midfielder eyes November return
Hargreaves Kembali November
Arya Perdhana - detiksport

Hargreaves set for free-kick role
Returning midfielder lined up as Ronaldo's set-piece replacement
http://img.skysports.com/09/09/218x298/Owen-Hargreaves_2364896.jpg
Sir Alex Ferguson believes Owen Hargreaves is the man to replace Cristiano Ronaldo as Manchester United's set-piece specialist.
Ronaldo's summer departure to Real Madrid has created an opportunity for another member of the United squad to take on the responsibility from free-kicks.
The evergreen Ryan Giggs has scored twice from such situations this season, while Wayne Rooney has also been keen to get involved.
However, with the imminent return of Hargreaves from a long-term knee injury, United boss Ferguson feels the midfielder can assume Ronaldo's mantle.
Bonus
"Outside Cristiano Ronaldo, I don't think there is a better deliverer of set pieces than Owen," said Ferguson.
"That is one of the areas in which he may help us more.
"People may look upon free-kicks as minimal. I see them as an added detail to a football team.
"Ronaldo could get three or four goals like that. We are still searching for someone else. If Owen can do it, that will be a bonus for us."
Hargreaves has not played a first-team game in over 12 months after undergoing surgery on both knees to fix a long-standing tendinitis problem, but is now close to a return to action.
Ferguson added: "He is coming along fine. His physio has gone back to America so he is completely in our control now and hopefully he will be back into football training quite soon.
"The signs are good. There has been absolutely no reaction to the operations.
"It has been a long road for the boy but he made a sacrifice by staying in America for a year to make sure he was right.
"That shows a good determination to come back and do well."

Hargreaves can't wait to return

Owen Hargreaves has remained positive throughout the long road to recovery from double knee surgery – and now he’s delighted to be back at United and edging ever nearer to the ultimate goal of pulling on the red shirt once again.
Hargreaves last did that against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 21 September 2008. He’s come so far since the initial daunting diagnosis from Dr Richard Steadman at his California clinic that he required surgery on both knees to cure the tendonitis problem.
But now the prospect of emerging from the players’ tunnel at Old Trafford seems tantalisingly close. Smiling and in buoyant mood at United’s Carrington training ground – surprising considering what he’s been through – Hargreaves’ determination and focus has been sharpened by months of hard work.
“I can’t wait to get back involved in it all,” he told ManUtd.com. “I can’t wait to play again for United, to be able to pull on the shirt and have an effect on games. Running out at Old Trafford will be a big thing for me. It’ll be amazing.”
Hargreaves returned to Manchester late last month, along with the physio he worked with throughout his rehabilitation in America. He’s now under the watchful eye of United’s medical staff as he enters the final phase of his recovery - while a potential November return awaits.
The reception he received at Carrington has merely furthered his resolve to return for a club for whom his appreciation hasn't diminished one bit. “The reception I’ve had has been great,” he says. “That was one of the things that I really missed, being with the guys in the dressing room. There's such a great energy around this club. It’s fantastic being back in with all the different characters and personalities.”

Hargreaves Bersemangat Panaskan MU
http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2009/08/29/0754068p.jpg
MANCHESTER, KOMPAS.com - Gelandang Manchester United, Owen Hargreaves, sudah tak sabar menunjukkan kemampuannya bersama "Setan Merah". Ia rindu suasana pertarungan bersama timnya.

Manchester United's Owen Hargreaves eager to repay faith of the fans
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/10/11/article-0-051910EE000005DC-217_306x495.jpg
Owen Hargreaves is impatient to repay the faith of Manchester United fans and is confident he will soon return 'better than ever' after more than a year out with a serious knee injury.
The 28-year-old England midfielder was told by renowned surgeon Dr Richard
Owen Hargreaves
Steadman that his knee problems were among the worst he had seen in his long and distinguished career.
Surgery and 10 months of intensive rehabilitation followed in Colorado, but Hargreaves believes it was essential time well spent - and he is now setting his sights on a long-lived return and a career he hopes can last into his late 30s.
'The best is yet to come, and I just cannot wait to get back out there,' he told MUTV.
'I will be trying to improve my game and achieve the great success I think we [United] are destined for.'
Hargreaves last played for United against Chelsea 13 months ago and therefore missed out on a championship-winning season.
He is nonetheless hugely heartened by the progress he too has made off the pitch in that time.
'To look back at where I was to where I am now is amazing,' he said.
'I just want to be part of it again and have a great season. I cannot wait to pay back some of the faith the fans have shown me.'

HARGREAVES TARGETS ENGLAND RETURN
football365.com
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc259/guekoko/Manchester%20United/Owen-Hargreaves_2353469.jpg
Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has set his sights on a return to the England team as he approaches the "final hurdle" of his rehabilitation from injury.
The 28-year-old has been out for 13 months with tendinitis in his knees but is close to a comeback following work in America with specialist Dr Richard Steadman.
"It's looking very well," he said on ITV.
"I want to make sure this last hurdle is successful and hope I'll be back with the team very soon."
Hargreaves' recovery is being monitored by England boss Fabio Capello, who last had the former Bayern Munich midfielder available for the friendly win over USA in May 2008.
After being voted England's player of the tournament for the 2006 World Cup, Hargreaves wants to be part of the 2010 finals in South Africa.
"It is a very exciting time just being part of the England set-up," said Hargreaves.
"We have a fantastic group of players and a successful manager. We have had a great qualifying campaign, which we didn't have for Euro 2008.
"This was the first hurdle, and it's a shame I couldn't have been part of it more. I hope I can get back to being healthy and play some great games for Manchester United, then get back into the England team."

16/10/2009 09:26, Report by Nick Coppack
Hargreaves making good progress
Owen Hargreaves is edging ever closer to making his United return.
The 28-year-old hasn't played for the Reds since September 2008 and has since undergone surgery on both knees.
Most of Hargreaves' rehabilitation work was done in the United States, although the England international returned to Manchester late last month to rejoin his team-mates.
Sir Alex has been impressed with the midfielder's progress and says fans can expect to see him in a United shirt in the near future.
"Owen's doing a lot of good work now and we're pleased with that.
"As I said when he came back to Manchester, it's not something we need to rush. Because he's been out for a year, we monitor it a bit more closely.
"But he's giving us good signs and he should be back at the first-team level three weeks from now, easily."

(msy)

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson expects Owen Hargreaves to be making his first-team return in three weeks - in time to face Chelsea.
The midfielder returned to Carrington last month after spending a year in the United States recovering from ground-breaking surgery on both knees to combat a long-standing tendinitis problem.
Hargreaves was initially accompanied by his personal physiotherapist before care was transferred to the United medical staff.
owen hargreaves
The 28-year-old is progressing well. And though Ferguson is bound to be planning a low-key return on reserve team duty somewhere, the Scot feels Hargreaves will be available again at the start of next month.
'Owen is doing a lot of good work now,' he said. 'He is making great progress, which we are very pleased about.
'It is not a thing you have to rush because he has been out a year. We have to monitor it a bit more closely but he is giving us good signs.
'He should be back in the first-team level in three weeks from now, easily.'
In theory that would give Hargreaves a chance of being fit for the eagerly-awaited encounter with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on November 8.
It would seem unlikely Ferguson would pitch the former Bayern Munich star into such a high-profile occasion, so an outing immediately after the international break that follows is far more likely, particularly as United should have booked their place in the Champions League knock-out stages by then.

MU Bayar Hargreaves per Tayang
http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2009/11/02/0559537p.jpg
(MIR)

Hargreaves is over setback
Man Utd midfielder back on comeback trail after calf strain
http://img.skysports.com/09/09/218x298/Alex-Ferguson-Owen-Hargreaves_2364899.jpg
Owen Hargreaves is close to returning to full training after suffering a minor setback in his recovery from knee surgery.
The midfielder underwent a ground-breaking operation in America with renowned knee specialist Dr Richard Steadman in November last year to cure an ongoing tendinitis problem.
The 28-year-old has been sidelined ever since but returned to training last month and was expected to be back in action by the start of November.
However, the England international pushed himself too far in one training session, straining his calf as a result but Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Hargreaves will be back in first-team training in 10 days.
"Owen Hargreaves is doing very well," he said.
"He overdid it one of the days because he got a little calf strain and he had two or three rest days. He is back doing his work again and hopefully we can get him back in training within the next 10 days or so.
"But as I said before, it is one of those ones we are not going to force because you have to respect the amount of time he has been out.
"He is very happy within himself, which is good, and hopefully we get him back quickly."
With United sealing their qualification for the UEFA Champions League knockout stage with two games to spare following their 3-3 draw with CSKA in midweek Hargreaves could return to action against Besiktas at Old Trafford on 25th November or away at Wolfsburg two weeks later.

Q & A: Owen Hargreaves
The United midfielder on his recovery from a career-threatening knee injury and his hopes for the remainder of the season
http://i.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01112/owen-hargreaves_1112238c.jpg
Owen Hargreaves has become the forgotten man of Manchester United and England since undergoing surgery on a debilitating knee condition in the United States last year. Now, after a long battle to regain fitness, he is on the verge of a return to action . . .
What is it like being back in Manchester, after spending so much time away from everyone?
The reception has been great. It has been a very difficult experience for me, it’s just good to be back around the guys. There’s a great spirit among this team and I hope to join them very soon.
How difficult has the past year been?
It’s been very hard. As an athlete you think you are invincible, so you don’t think something of this magnitude and seriousness will happen. I obviously had a problem when I came from Bayern Munich [in July 2007], which we tried to manage. Nothing really seemed to work. My last game was at Chelsea [on September 21 last year] and I probably shouldn’t have played. I struggled to drive my car for three days after that match. I knew something was very wrong.
Did the injuries frustrate you in the early days at United?
My first season was stop-start because I already had the problem. It wasn’t as serious as it was at the end of my second season, but I guess I never understood the extent of what was wrong. I wasn’t the only one, but I just didn’t want to stop playing. The club had spent a lot of time and money acquiring me and I didn’t want to be out straightaway. In hindsight, playing made it worse, but it was a learning process. I’ve learnt to trust my intuition.
What do you now understand about your patellar tendinitis injury?
Dr Richard Steadman said it was one of the most serious cases he’d seen in 30 years — I knew, after hearing that, I was in trouble. The diagnosis was made to ensure I can come back and play for years to come. I’m 28 and I’d like to play until I’m 34, or like Giggsy, who looks as though he’ll still be going when he’s 38.
A lot’s changed in the past year — even City are on the scene now. What have you made of the past 12 months?
City have spent a lot of money, but that doesn’t guarantee sustained success. For United to have won the Premier League three times in a row and to have won so many titles in recent years are incredible feats.
Are you ready to fight for your place in the team?
I just want to be a part of it, to be available and healthy. I can’t wait to be involved and to play again for United. I want a good season to repay the faith shown in me by the fans. It’ll be an amazing feeling to run out at Old Trafford again. I’ll be so excited I’ll probably pass out.

Hargreaves Kembali Berlatih Dalam 10 Hari
Alex Ferguson tidak ingin memaksa, tapi Owen Hargreaves senang kembali berlatih.
http://i.media.goal.com/g/29374.jpg
Hargreaves absen sedemikian lama, setelah menjalani operasi kedua lututnya.

The People seperti dilansir Goal.com, Selasa, 10 November 2009.

Owen Hargreaves set for passing out parade at Manchester United
Published 23:00 10/11/09 By MirrorFootball
Owen Hargreaves reckons he will be so excited when his injury nightmare ends he may faint on the pitch.
The Manchester United midfielder is desperate to pull his boots on again having missed the past 14 months of action.
The 2008 Champions League winner underwent operations on both knees under the watchful gaze of American specialist Dr Richard Steadman.
And the experienced surgeon was shocked at the damage the tendonitis had done to Hargreaves’ knees, admitting the midfielder was one of the worst cases he has seen in 30 years.
But now the form Bayern Munich star is hoping to make his comeback for the Reds later this month to bolster their title challenge.
He said: “It will be an amazing feeling to run out at Old Trafford again. I’ll be so excited I’ll probably pass out! :D :D
“I just want to be part of it again, to be available and healthy. I can’t wait to be involved.
“I want to be able to pull on the shirt and have an effect on games. I just want to compete in matches, work with the coaches to improve my game and become a better player.
“I want a good season to repay the faith shown in me by the United fans.”:thumbup::thumbup:
Hargreaves’ enthusiasm to return to the playing arena is understandable and this time there are no hints of the caution he maintained during previous comebacks.
He was left deflated as attempts to cure the injury with rest and injections failed and was driven to going under the knife after struggling to get behind the wheel of his car.
He revealed: “The last year has been very difficult. As an athlete you think you are invincible.
“You don’t think something of this magnitude and seriousness will happen.
“I obviously had the problem when I came to Manchester United from Germany in 2007 and we tried to manage it.
“Nothing really seemed to work, despite being available for the big games at the end of the first season.
“I came back for the next season a week early to try to sort the problem out but it just didn’t work.
“My last game was Chelsea away last season and I probably shouldn’t have played. I struggled to drive my car for three days after that match. I knew something was very wrong.”
Hargreaves is hopeful the surgery will now allow him to play on well into his thirties and match Ryan Giggs' longevity.
Giggs is still hunting trophies at the age of 35 and Hargreaves is confident his knees will now stand up to the strain of the Premier League.
He added: “The diagnosis was done to ensure I can come back and play for years to come.
“I’m 28 now and I’d like to play until I’m 34, or like Giggsy, who looks like he will still be going when he is 38.”

It's g-Owen to be emotional
http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00926/Hargreaves_280x390_926440a.jpg
OWEN HARGREAVES is determined to look back on his 14-month injury hell as a positive experience.
But he admitted he could yet pass out from excitement on his return to Manchester United's first team.
The £18.6million midfielder is nearing the end of his comeback trail following operations on both knees to cure tendinitis.
Hargreaves' injuries were as bad as his US-based specialist had ever seen.
But, looking back, the ex-Bayern Munich star feels blessed to have the chance to continue his top-flight career.
He said: "The day of the diagnosis was a bad one, as was the day after the first operation.
"I was sore and doubt started to cloud my mind but I see it as a positive experience now.
"Ideally I would not have had to go through this but the diagnosis was made to ensure I can come back and play for years to come. I am 28 now and would like to play until I am 34."
United's progression to the Champions League knockout phase provides boss Alex Ferguson with a couple of dead rubbers, which would be perfect for Hargreaves to ease himself back in.
Hargreaves added: "I just want to be part of it again. I want to repay the faith shown in me by the fans.
"It will be an amazing feeling to run out at Old Trafford again. I will be so excited I will probably pass out!"

Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes he will return from his 14-month injury nightmare a much stronger character.
The England international is close to making his first-team return after more than a year on the sidelines following surgery to cure long-running tendonitis problems in both of his knees.
"The day of the diagnosis was a bad one, as was the day after the first operation," he told Inside United.
"I was sore and doubt started to cloud my mind. But I see it as a positive experience now. Sometimes I think you learn more from the bad experiences.
"Ideally I would not have had to go through this. But the diagnosis was made to ensure I can come back and play for years to come. I am 28 now and I would like to play until I am 34."
Hargreaves has made just 25 appearances for the Red Devils since joining from Bayern Munich in a £17million transfer in 2007.

Owen Hargreaves' Return Affects Whole United Midfield
http://cdn.bleacherreport.com/images_root/images/photos/000/752/889/615791.jpg.5394.0_feature.jpg?1258001518
When Owen Hargreaves finally returns from injury, in what may be his last chance to achieve his prime, United manager Alex Ferguson can again field his strongest midfield.
But the Englishman, so influential in United's 2008 European double-winning season, is not the only significant addition required to create United's most balanced side.
In a 4-5-1, Ferguson's preferred—though not always proven—formation in Europe and major domestic matches, Hargreaves and Fletcher are a staple. In a 4-4-2, the two comprise the ideal pairing, though it could be debatable.
If only Giggs and Scholes weren't solely effective against lesser quality midfields. Psychologically and physically, against sides like Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City, and further at Inter, Barcelona, or Madrid, United will need Owen Hargreaves and Darren Fletcher to partner in 4-4-2.
Such a pairing, going forward, isn't disimiliar to a central pairing of Carrick with either player, but both Fletcher and Hargreaves bring more energy, truculence, and consequently control to the middle.
Ultimately, Giggs or Scholes could still feature in a five-manned midfield, or if Hargreaves has to slot in at right-back, partner Fletcher in the middle. With the Canadian-born Englishman back in the fold, at no point should Carrick's name appear in any ideal starting eleven.
However, as with any central pairing not containing Scholes or even Giggs, this leaves a need to attack and counter through their wings. The imbalance created by having two holding midfielders can be compensated by faster, more creative wingplay.
The left wing has been a void this season. The star-crossed Nani continues to waste his potential. His decision-making hasn't improved, despite being given more than enough time on the field to grow. He stops when he should start, and dribbles when he should pass. He has no composure. He defines inconsistency. He's done.
United's right flank is in somewhat better shape. Serviceable but not particularly exciting, Antonio Valencia can supply crosses regularly, but he almost always dribbles to his right, making it increasingly predictable for defenders to smother.
Furthermore, if United aren't on the counter, the opposing team generally has plenty of bodies in the middle, which isn't really ideal with usually just Rooney with Berbatov in heading positions.
A team with two such skillful forwards would benefit more from a counterattacking philosophy, wingers going past and through defenders at pace or playing off Berbatov to eventually feed a darting Rooney.
Gabriel Obertan has captured the imagination of United faithful with his pace and naivete. As such, the French prospect is not only an obvious (and merciful) replacement for the egregious Nani, but a feasible alternative to Valencia.
Naturally right-footed, the French prospect can cut in effectively from the left, a-la Ronaldo, or drive down the right, with more guile and abandon than the straightforward Ecuadorian.
When Obertan is not opposite Valencia, Zoran Tosic is the man to drive past defenders, deliver set pieces, and provide a natural width most teams lack and crave.
However, Alex Ferguson is, so far, willing to give Tosic the consistent run-out he deserves. Whether or not the Serbian was bought with fellow midfielder Adam Llajc simply to bring security or comfort to Nemanja Vidic, he's proven in few chances that he's a quick and tidy player.
At 22, Tosic may have less gusto than a similarly aged Giggs, but there's no reason he can't fulfill the same classic left-winger mold, in a natural role every team craves, for the next many years in Manchester.
If only his crotchety manager agreed. But Ferguson precluded the Serb from United's European squad this year, making the youngster's maturation dependent on his inclusion in United's domestic games this season.
With a combination of Obertan, Tosic, and Valencia, United's wings are very dynamic. Hargreaves and Fletcher can gamely control the middle while Tosic, in his natural position, provides balance and flare as Obertan or Valencia slice in from the right, supplying Berbatov to pivot and create for Rooney running behind defenses.
As stated, Scholes and Giggs can still contribute in the center, albeit sparingly and against the right opponents.
But just because Ronaldo is plying his trade in Madrid doesn't mean United can't, or shouldn't, continue to feature wingplay, particularly on the counter, and especially since a marque creative midfielder wasn't sought in the summer transfer window.
And without a Wesley Sneidjer or Yoann Gourcuff to partner world-beater Fletcher in the middle, Ferguson will need to trust both Hargreaves and his two young wingers if United are to regain their attacking acumen and compete with Arsenal and Chelsea throughout the season.

Significance of Owen Hargreaves return cannot be understated
-footballfancast.com-
http://www.footballfancast.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Owen-Hargreaves-penalty-celeb_8913531-300x225.jpg
When Man Utd signed Owen Hargreaves in the summer of 2007 there were mixed reactions, some were happy to see United finally sign a combative midfielder whilst others felt the £17m fee was too high. In his first season he would go some way to proving his worth with a series of solid performances not only in central midfield but also on the right wing (looking especially good in a tie against Roma in the CL quarter final) and at right back. The £17m fee looked like a decent investment as he helped United regain the Premier League as well as win the Champions League.
But Hargreaves was denied the chance to build on his solid debut season as in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge Hargreaves limped off and hasn’t been seen since.
Now and after initially being set a September return date, Hargreaves could return for United on December 8th against Wolfsburg, and not a minute too soon.
Any United fan that says the club hasn’t missed him is a liar. Just look at the Liverpool match where Michael Carrick could not afford Paul Scholes the protection he needed and the duo were overrun by Javier Mascherano and Lucas. A fit Hargreaves is industrious putting in the work not only in his half but the opposition’s too hounding players, forcing mistakes.
All too often when United have lost games it has been because they have lost the battle in midfield, last season at Anfield Xabi Alonso was given the freedom of the pitch and Liverpool duly won the game 2-1, the Champions League final Xavi and Andres Iniesta were allowed to dictate the pace and direction of the game and thus United were made to look like amateurs as they lost 2-0.
The progress Darren Fletcher has recently made has been astounding but he isn’t one to sit and hold rather he gets about and whilst Hargreaves can also do that job if the two of them were to be paired in midfield it would more likely be Hargreaves sitting deep. Also he could play the same role while partnering Anderson thus freeing the Brazilian to get forward and join up with attacks. That’s the advantage of Hargreaves, he is so versatile and playing in a multitude of roles and positions so to have him in your team is like having two players.
Hargreaves’ return will be like signing a new player for United and it is easy to get caught up in the excitement and thus forget the fact he is quite injury prone. If he does break down again all the anticipation of his return will have been for nothing and what then looked like a sound £17m investment will appear now appear like wasted money.

Fergie explains Hargreaves delay
United boss feels extended absence down to lack of confidence
http://img.skysports.com/09/09/218x298/Alex-Ferguson-Owen-Hargreaves_2364899.jpg
Sir Alex Ferguson believes Owen Hargreaves' tentative recovery from knee surgery is a confidence issue.
The midfielder has been out for over a year having undergone revolutionary surgery on both knees in America last year.
The 28-year-old returned to Manchester United last month having undergone rehabilitation work across the Atlantic under the watchful eye of his surgeon and renowned knee specialist Dr Richard Steadman.
The former Bayern Munich ace was expected to feature by the end of October but Red Devils fans are yet to witness his comeback with the England international yet to return to full training.
"He is training very well," Ferguson said.
"It is more of a confidence thing for the lad to come back into real full training with us. He is doing real good work for the physios but not at a competitive level at the moment.
"Having been out for a year and two months we are of the mind that take our time and don't rush

Confidence key to Hargreaves return
SIR Alex Ferguson believes restoring Owen Hargreaves' confidence could be the next stage in the United midfielder's comeback.
Hargreaves returned to England last month after a year out following major surgery on both knees to cure a tendinitis problem.
At the time, Ferguson suggested the former Bayern Munich man could be back in action by the beginning of November, something he pre-empted by naming him in his Champions League squad at the beginning of the tournament.
However, with the first of what are now effectively dead rubbers looming against Besiktas at Old Trafford on Wednesday and England coach Fabio Capello monitoring the player's progress, Ferguson has confirmed Hargreaves is yet to start proper footballing training.
Not rush it
Club officials insist there has been no setback, which if it were to be the case would raise serious doubts over the 28-year-old's future in the game.
But Ferguson believes Hargreaves is adopting a tentative approach having played with pain for so long and knowing the significance of his eventual return to action.
“Owen is training very well,” said the United boss. “It is more a confidence thing for the lad to come back into full training with us.
“He is doing quite good work with the physios and football-related training but he is not at a competitive level at the moment.
“He has been out for a year and two months, so we are of the opinion that he should take his time and not rush it. In that respect, he needs to get his confidence back.”

PICTURE SPECIAL: Finally! Good news for Manchester United and England as Owen Hargreaves returns to training
On a cold November morning just over 14 months after he last turned out for Manchester United, Owen Hargreaves finally seemed to be on the verge of recovery from serious knee injuries after he resumed training today.
Hargreaves appeared at United's Carrington training complex on Tuesday morning and jogged with a member of the club's medical staff before starting some basic ball and skills work.
The £17million capture from Bayern Munich in July 2007 last wore the red jersey during his side's 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 21 September, 2008.

Since then he has suffered with tendinitis in both knees and undergone two major operations, and at times the injuries looked serious enough to threaten his career. But the England ace's return to training appears to put such rumours to an end.
The pictures will also give England boss Fabio Capello some cheer as Hargreaves - first-choice in England's midfield when fit - can also fill in at right-back, an area of weakness in Capello's current squad.
United are yet to confirm when Hargreaves will return to full first-team action.

INCE: HARGREAVES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
-sportinglife.com-
http://images.sportinglife.com/09/09/330/Owen-Hargreaves-celebrates_2364898.jpg
Paul Ince believes Owen Hargreaves' return to action could give a timely boost to both England and Manchester United's chances of success.
Hargreaves returned to training last week after being out since September with a career-threatening knee injury.
The 28-year-old has been plagued by injuries since signing from Bayern Munich in 2007 and has had to undergo two operations in a bid to cure tendinitis in both knees.
Dr Richard Steadman, the world-renowned surgeon who treated Hargreaves, described the midfielder's injury as one of the worst he had seen in 35 years in the business.
There had been worries that the £18million midfielder would have to retire, but United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is confident he will play again and may choose to give Hargreaves a run-out in the Red Devils' Champions League dead rubber with Wolfsburg next week.
Ince, whose playing style was similar to the combative Hargreaves, won six major trophies during a six-year period at Old Trafford and also represented England 53 times during his 23-year career.
With United trailing Barclays Premier League leaders Chelsea by five points, and England's midfield looking vulnerable against the top-class opposition, he believes Hargreaves' return could be vital for both club and country.
"Sir Alex Ferguson must feel he's worth it to persist with him for such a long time, he's a fantastic player," Ince told Press Association Sport.
"I like the way he plays and he has been missed at Man United and England. If you get him fit it'll be like having a new player, not only for Manchester United but for England as well.
"He's been out for so long that it's nice to see him back on the pitch where he belongs."
Hargreaves has played two internationals since Fabio Capello took over as manager and the Italian has made it clear that he will not take any player to the World Cup who is not 100% fit.
Ince worries that the former Bayern Munich player will not have enough time to regain his fitness in time to make the Italian's final 23 but believes Hargreaves should go to the World Cup if fit.
"He has six months so it might come a little bit too early for him but who knows," the MK Dons boss added.
"It's always nice for England to have that other option. Mentally he's a fantastic player.
"Every team needs that combative midfielder who can get about, tackle, win balls and break up play and he can do that."
Capello's near-perfect qualifying record has led some bookmakers to tip England to win their first World Cup in 44 years next summer.
Ince has been impressed with how Capello has turned around England's fortunes and believes the Three Lions have the potential to win the tournament providing they stay clear of injuries.
"I believe they can go all the way," the 42-year-old said.
"We certainly have the players to do it and we also now definitely have the manager to do it. There are six or seven sides that can do it and England are one of those.
"I always thought that Fabio was a fantastic manager and he has proven that with England. Now I think it's important that we get through the league without any injuries so that we can have a successful campaign in South Africa."

Phelan patient over Hargreaves
-skysports.com-

Red Devils assistant says midfielder is itching to get back playing
Mike Phelan admits that Owen Hargreaves is desperate to make his comeback but the club are playing it safe due to the severity of his injury.
The midfielder underwent surgery on both knees last year to try and cure a long standing tendinitis problem.
The 28-year-old has not played for over 14 months as a result but returned to training last week and is keen to step up the rate of his recovery.
The former Bayern Munich ace began running last week but is yet to participate in competitive training, with the Red Devils assistant manager erring on the side of caution.
"It's a softly, softly approach," Phelan said.
Working hard
"He's out there running around and we are working hard with him on a theme to help him come back."
Hargreaves is quickly running out of time to stake a claim for a place in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad but Phelan feels he could be back in the near future.
"His overall fitness is looking very good, but he hasn't got involved in a team situation yet," he added.
"It's not a problem, it's just the nature of the injury. He's as keen as mustard and so determined to get back out there with the group of players."

Hargreaves Belum Pede untuk Comeback
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detiksport
http://www.detiksport.com/images/content/2009/12/15/72/Hargreaves.jpg
Ia pertama kali memperkuat The Three Lions dan hingga kini sudah mengantongi 42 caps.

OWEN HARGREAVES is struggling to overcome the psychological hurdle of making a comeback.
The England star has physically recovered from two knee ops that sidelined him for 14 months.
But he still lacks the confidence to make a return and spends most of his time training alone with United's physiotherapist.
United manager Alex Ferguson said: "Owen is doing most things but it is the confidence part to mark the big step forward in the competitive part of the training that needs to come."
Fergie originally suggested Hargreaves would be back in action by November.
But there is now no timescale on when he will even be playing matches in training, let alone the Premier League.
Assistant manager Mike Phelan added: "He is out there running around and we are working hard with him on a theme to help him come back."
But the clock is ticking for Hargreaves, who only has five months to show Fabio Capello that he can still be part of his World Cup squad.
Hargreaves has 42 caps and was England's star performer in the last World Cup.
United won a six-month battle to sign him from Bayern Munich for £17million in August 2007.
But he has started only 25 games since then.

Capello warns Hargreaves
Utd ace needs to be playing to make World Cup squad
http://img.skysports.com/08/10/218x298/owen-hargreaves_1354597.jpg
England coach Fabio Capello has warned Owen Hargreaves he needs to be playing regularly if he wants to make his World Cup squad.
Hargreaves is back in training with Manchester United after 14 months out following two knee operations.
The former Bayern Munich ace is thought to be close to a return to competitive action, but there is no timescale as to when the midfielder will make his long-awaited return.
Hargreaves, who impressed at the 2006 World Cup, has been tipped to make Fabio Capello's squad for the finals in South Africa, but the Italian admits time is running out for the 28-year-old to prove his fitness as he will only choose fully-fit players in his 23-man squad.
"I spoke with him [Hargreaves] two months ago, I met him in Manchester and he was just ready to start training but now he is not fit," Capello told Sky Sports News.
"He has six months to recover good form but he needs to play.
"I will choose players that will be fit in May and players that play all the games.
"I think he can [make the squad] because he has got time to recover everything, but he needs to play
"If players don't play they will not be with me."
Capello admits he has as good as chosen his 23 players to make the trip to South Africa next summer.
"More or less I know all the players [for the final squad]," added Capello. "I check with the players, but we have to wait because probably when I will decide the 23 players that stay with me I hope my best players will be fit."

Capello: Hargreaves, Kamu Bisa!
Mohammad Resha Pratama - detiksport
http://www.detiksport.com/images/content/2009/12/16/73/hargreaves-i.jpg

Owen’s woe leaves Sir Alex needing a ‘Plan B’
-footballfancast.com-
http://www.footballfancast.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Owen-Hargreaves-penalty-celeb_891353-300x225.jpg
It is no secret that Man United have suffered these past couple weeks with injuries. With Patrice Evra our only fit recognised defender, we have had to draft the likes of Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick into the backline and as adept as they are in midfield, its more than obvious that neither are defenders.
To compound the problem, in dropping these two back into defence their presence is missed in the middle of the park, Fletcher especially, as seen against Fulham.
In an ideal world our injury problems would have been eased as we had been told that Owen Hargreaves would be back in first team action on November. Then this was changed to the December 8th tie against Wolfsburg but both dates came and went and still no Hargo.
Its getting to a stage where these shifting dates are becoming somewhat of an annoyance. We have all seen the pictures and footage of him running and training but how close, if ever, is he to a first team return?
With chronic tendinitis in both of his knees, it is best not to rush him back so when he does return he is at the peak of his powers but Fergie will have to wonder, after such a lengthy spell out of the team will Hargreaves be the same player? Another factor is if the injury will have a psychological affect on his robust all action style?
Since signing Hargreaves for £18m in 2007 he has made just 37 appearances, the last being against Chelsea at the start of last season and his combative nature is needed back in the team especially with United looking to peg Chelsea back and win the title again for a 4th consecutive time.
At the start of the season it was said having Hargreaves back would be equivalent to a new signing and how we need him now. His versatility is essential as he is a central midfielder by trade but can also operate down the right flank as a defender or a winger. But in our current situation it would be at right back that he would be most welcome freeing Darren Fletcher to maraud around the pitch in his usual fashion but instead his rehab has taken longer than expected and we are left with 2 defeats against Aston Villa and Fulham who took full advantage of playing against a makeshift defence.
The latest we have heard now is that he should be returning in January along with Rio Ferdinand but by then it could be too late.
I don’t think the situation requires a knee jerk reaction and that we should go and buy someone in January if he isn’t coming back but United know when he will be fit and if he keeps missing these deadlines that are set for his return then maybe Fergie needs a ‘plan b’ for his plan b.

Another player making a significant strides towards full recovery is Owen Hargreaves. The midfielder, who has been out for 16 months following double knee surgery, has started training with the Reserves.
http://www.manchesterunited.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=183971
Hargreaves Takes Giant Step Towards Fitness
There's been little trumpeting about this but the official website reports that Owen Hargreaves is closer to a return than ever before: he started full training with the Reserve squad which means he'll now do ball work and will soon be ready to join the first-team squad again.
Will he ever be fully fit again? That is still far from certain but at least he made a huge step, a step he had been hesitant about, according to rumours. He has to overcome considerable mental obstacles after spending 16 months on the sidelines but he's a strong enough character to emerge triumphant.
There is of course another pressing issue: how did his injury affect his game? Hargreaves' football was based on his great dynamism and mobility and these could be severely restricted by such a long-term knee problem. If he loses this edge of his game he'll end up an ordinary player, far from the one we had such high hopes (which initially, during his debut season, seemed totally justified as he was performing very well) for.
But at least for the time being we can look ahead with a little optimism and anticipation: it would be marvellous to see Hargreaves on the pitch again.

Fergie still in dark over Hargreaves
MEN
January 22, 2010
SIR Alex Ferguson intends to name Owen Hargreaves in his 25-man Champions League squad even though he has no real idea when the midfielder will make his Manchester United comeback.
Hargreaves has been missing for over 15 months now after undergoing major surgery on both knees in an effort to cure a long-standing tendinitis problem. :(
Ferguson initially felt Hargreaves would be back in action by the end of November and he was nominated for the group stages of Europe's elite club competition in the belief that he could assist United in their quest to reach a third successive final.
But progress has proved to be slow for a player who celebrated his 29th birthday on Wednesday.
Although Hargreaves is now doing some football training, Ferguson has no idea when the £17million signing from Bayern Munich will be fit enough to come back into the fold.
Nevertheless, Ferguson feels it is worth picking Hargreaves among the players that must be submitted to UEFA by the end of the month and who will be the bedrock of United's quest for glory in Madrid on May 22.
"Yes, Owen will probably be in my Champions League squad," confirmed Ferguson.
"It will be finalised in the next 10 days and unless something untoward happens I would imagine we will be picking him." :wowcaem:
Having trust in his own body seems to have been an issue for Hargreaves, which is perhaps not surprising given he knows his career is at stake if his comeback bid fails.
Yet there have been some positive signs, even if a full recovery has so far proved elusive.
"Owen is still training with the reserves," said Ferguson.
"Now it is two days on and one day off and he is preparing to get to the proper levels.
"He has done two or three sessions with us in the last couple of weeks and did very well in Qatar last week.
"But it is a process and hopefully we will get to the point where he feels confident about playing again."

Fergie siapkan Hargreaves untuk Milan
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detiksport
Owen Hargreaves kini belum 100% fit pasca menjalani operasi kedua lututnya.
Batal tampil neh....:-SS
Uefa last night confirmed United had requested De Laet's elevation in place of Hargreaves. The Premier League champions have also named Senegalese forward Mame Biram Diouf in place of Danny Welbeck, who is on loan at Preston.

Hargreaves will be back
Owen’s recovery is slow. It's been a year and a half now and I can't put a time on it. But he will be back; he could come back and make an impact in the league and hopefully he will."
- Sir Alex Ferguson
Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Owen Hargreaves will return to action this season despite leaving the midfielder out of his Champions League squad.
The boss opted to omit the 29-year-old from his 25-man squad for the latter stages of the competition knowing he would not be fit for the Reds’ last 16 tie with AC Milan.
“It would be nice to think we could get to the Champions League final and I could have Owen available. But we’re not in the final yet, we’ve got to beat AC Milan first and if I was to pick Owen then it would mean I'd have to leave another important player out and that player could be the one I need against Milan,” explained the Scot.
“The decision wasn’t about the latter part of the campaign, it was to do with the AC Milan game and Owen won’t be available for that. Sometimes you have to make hard decisions, but it's the correct one.”
Hargreaves had major knee surgery in November 2008 in a bid to cure a long-standing tendonitis problem and has been undergoing an extensive rehabilitation programme since. Sir Alex is convinced the England international will make a successful return this season and bolster the Reds’ bid for a fourth consecutive title.
“Owen’s recovery is slow. It's been a year and a half now and I can't put a time on it," admitted the boss. "But he will be back; he could come back and make an impact in the league and hopefully he will.
“There are more games in the league than there are in Europe and I don't need to register him for the league."

Gara-gara Milan, Ferguson Coret Hargreaves
http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2009/11/02/0559537p.jpg
Bukan tanpa alasan Ferguson begitu berhati-hati menentukan komposisi skuadnya. Menilik rekor pertemuan, MU selalu gagal mengatasi AC Milan di Liga Champions. Pada 2005, Milan menyingkirkan MU di 16 besar dengan agregat 0-2 (0-1, 0-1). Dua musim kemudian, MU tersingkir di semifinal setelah kalah agregat 3-5 (3-2, 0-3). (SCN)

Owen Hargreaves's injury is a serious concern, says Sir Alex Ferguson
• United manager hopes midfielder will feature soon
• Ferguson commits to second appeal over Ferdinand ban

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that the slowness of Owen Hargreaves's 16-month recovery from tendinitis is now a serious concern but is hopeful the midfielder can return for the climax of the Premier League season.
The Manchester United manager explained his decision to omit the 29-year-old from his Champions League squad on the basis that he was not prepared to include anyone who was not fit for the encounter with Milan on 16 February.
Last month, he said he hoped to take Hargreaves to San Siro, if only for the experience of being back in the squad. Today Ferguson explained that there was now no time limit for Hargreaves's recovery from the knee injury that has kept him out since September 2008.
"It is a hard decision but it is the *correct decision," he said. "Owen Hargreaves is not available to play Milan and it is more important for the club to negotiate that game. And if I chose Owen, I would have to leave out another important player and that player could be the one I need for the Milan game.
"His recovery is slow. It is a year and a half since he played for us and I can't put a time limit on when he will be back now. But he will make an impact in the league. There are more games in the league than in the European Cup and I don't need to register him for that.
"It is bound to be hard for him. The physios are doing their best with him. There are times we feel he is almost there and now it seems to be slow again. But I am confident he will be back before the end of the season."
Ferguson added he was more *concerned with Manchester United than England but it is clear that if Hargreaves is to have any chance of making Fabio Capello's squad for South Africa, his return cannot *realistically be later than April.
Ferguson said United would continue with their second appeal against Rio *Ferdinand's four-match ban for elbowing Craig Fagan in last month's victory over Hull because they are a victim of double refereeing standards. He is unhappy that while Liverpool's Javier Mascherano was not punished by Alan Wiley after video evidence of the midfielder appearing to strike the Leeds United forward Jermaine Beckford was studied in September, video evidence was used successfully against Ferdinand by Steve Bennett. Ferdinand's ban was extended by an extra game because the FA ruled it "frivolous". It is this additional ban that United are *appealing against.
"They are under the same controls and the same directions," Ferguson said. "One says yes in the case of Rio and one says no in the case of Javier Mascherano when he punched a player in the back of the head. When you see that example, we don't think our appeal was frivolous."
Following commanding performances against Manchester City and Arsenal, Ferguson appeared to be so little concerned about Chelsea that he said he was not aware they were playing at Hull last Tuesday, a night he spent watching Preston, managed by his son Darren, lose 4-1 to Barnsley.
"I left with five minutes to go and on the radio they said it was still 1-1 at Hull," he said. "I'd thought they were playing the next day, so it was a wee surprise for me."

EXCLUSIVE: Owen Hargreaves tells England manager Fabio Capello: I won't make World Cup
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/02/27/article-0-02B2659500000578-451_468x458.jpg
An emotional Owen Hargreaves is resigned to missing this summer's World Cup.
With his Manchester United playing career in the balance, Hargreaves has spoken to the England boss Fabio Capello, who has decided there is very little, if any, chance of the player making the trip to South Africa in June.
There are growing fears that, at 29, the midfielder is losing his battle with tendinitis in his knees that has limited him to 25 starts for United in three years, costing the club nearly £1million each.
It is 18 months since he last played and, after more than a year of rehab following operations on both legs, he has reverted from training with the first team to daily workouts with the club's physios.
Last month Capello expressed the hope that Hargreaves, a candidate to fill England's troubled full-back positions as well as the holding role, would soon be back playing to confirm his fitness and take up a place in the England squad.
But recently the weekly bulletins from United's medical staff to the Italian have been less encouraging and Hargreaves, who was voted England player of the year after the last World Cup, has been left in an increasingly emotional state.
Although Sir Alex Ferguson has not given up hope on him making what would be a remarkable comeback, the next four days will merely emphasise what he will miss if his career really is all over.
He is due at Wembley today, to watch his club-mates try to claim the Carling Cup, and will be staying just miles from the Grove Hotel, where the England players will gather to prepare for Wednesday's friendly against Egypt.
With new captain Rio Ferdinand also struggling with a long-term back injury that has restricted him to just 34 of the past 92 games for club and country, plus doubts over the fitness of Ashley Cole and Glen Johnson, and the row between Wayne Bridge and John Terry, Hargreaves' news is the last thing Capello wanted to hear.
A broken leg and knee problems delayed his move to United after the 2006 World Cup in Germany, but he crowned his first season in Manchester by scoring a penalty in the shoot-out victory in the 2008 Champions League final against Chelsea.
However, his knees soon began to fail again and he played only three more games the following season, his last coming more than 500 days ago, in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
'I probably shouldn't have played in that game,' said Hargreaves. 'I struggled to drive my car for three days afterwards. Something was very wrong.
'The last year has been difficult. As an athlete you think you are invincible. You don't think something of this magnitude will happen. I obviously had the problem when I came to Manchester United from Germany in 2007 and we tried to manage it.
'Part of the problem for me was my competitiveness. I was new to United and they had spent a lot of time, energy and money in getting me from Bayern Munich.
'I wanted to do well, obviously. I came with symptoms (of tendinitis) but everyone said, "Don't worry, it will go", so I always tried to be available. But playing on it made it worse. I wanted to play, though, so I played through it.'
Recalling his doctor Richard Steadman's admission that he had never seen such bad tendons in 35 years of surgery, Hargreaves added: 'It was a dark day, hard to take because this was coming from a guy who was 72 years old and had seen a lot of knees.'
Hargreaves returned to United last September and resumed training but an intended comeback in November was put on ice. Even as recently as December, Capello held out hope for him. Fully aware of his valuable versatility, he said: 'He has to play.'

Hargreaves set for reserve run-out
Owen Hargreaves is set to make his long-awaited comeback for Manchester United for the reserves on Thursday.
Hargreaves has been out of action since September 2008 with a series of knee problems.
The England midfielder had operations on both knees under the guidance of renowned specialist Dr Richard Steadman but after returning to United's Carrington training complex in September had been expected to return to action within a couple of months.
Instead, a comeback has been repeatedly delayed, with suggestions in the last couple of weeks that Hargreaves was out for the season and had informed England coach Fabio Capello he would not be available for this summer's World Cup.
optimistic news
However, Ferguson revealed some optimistic news on Hargreaves ahead of the match with Wolverhampton Wanderers, confirming an outing against Manchester City's second string at Altrincham's Moss Lane ground was now on the cards.
"Owen Hargreaves has shown for the first time that he is almost ready to play," said Ferguson.
"He has been training with the first team, which has been good to see and is pencilled in for a game with the reserves on Thursday."
There was further good news, with Ferguson revealing Italian Under-21 international Federico Macheda was about to start training again after a recent injury, which given Michael Owen's injury and the fact Danny Welbeck has joined Preston North End on loan until the end of the season, could offer United a solution to their striker problems.
coming back
"They are dropping off at the moment but we have got some encouragement with players coming back," said Ferguson.
"Macheda starts training with the first team again next week which is also good news, particularly considering the loss of Michael.
"He is a good player to have back.
"So we have had some disappointments with some, and light at the end of the tunnel with other players."

'Setan Merah' Sambut Hargreaves

Masalah lutut mendera Hargreaves semenjak November 2008 lalu.
Hargreaves return on hold
Owen Hargreaves will not take part in the Reserves' Manchester derby on Thursday evening.

Last week it was reported that the midfielder would make his long-awaited return from injury when Manchester City travelled to Altrincham's Moss Lane on 11 March.
But the game, a top-of-the-table league clash, doesn't tally with Hargreaves' precise rehabilitation schedule.
A club spokesperson told ManUtd.com: "This definitely isn't another injury setback. It just doesn't fit in with Owen's training schedule."
But while Hargreaves, who hasn't played since September 2008, won't feature, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to name a strong team, despite the game coming just three days after the Reserves beat Stockport County 1-0 in the Manchester Senior Cup.
Thursday's game kicks off at Moss Lane, Altrincham, at 19:00. Entry is free for season ticket holders, £5 adults, £2 concs.
Those who can't make it to Altrincham can watch the match live on MUTV or read our match report on ManUtd.com shortly after the final whistle.

Ayo Hargo... Kamu bisa!!!

Owen Hargreaves IS ready for Manchester United comeback, insists Sir Alex Ferguson, despite star's odd absence
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/03/12/article-1257404-00EDCD9300000578-358_233x423.jpg
Sir Alex Ferguson insists he is ready to let Owen Hargreaves take the next step on his road to recovery.
Hargreaves was due to play in a reserve team encounter with Manchester City last night and end a near-18 month absence following a double knee operation.
But Manchester United officials confirmed on Wednesday night that the England star would not be involved, as it interfered with his training regime.
It seemed a strange explanation. And Ferguson has clarified the situation, pointing out that Hargreaves in fact went to see a specialist for the latest update.
However, as the verdict was positive, Ferguson believes an end to Hargreaves' lengthy spell on the sidelines is in sight.
'Owen went to see a specialist yesterday,' said the United boss. 'There is nothing wrong and the idea is for him to play in the next game. He has to play in the next game because he is ready to play.'
United's reserve side is next due in action on Thursday, when they entertain Burnley at Altrincham's Moss Lane ground.
However, given this week's events, nothing should be taken for granted until the 29-year-old actually makes an appearance.

Owen Hargreaves still harbours hopes of England World Cup place
http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Football/Pix/pictures/2010/3/18/1268874577430/Owen-Hargreaves-001.jpg
Owen Hargreaves has not ruled out his chances of playing in the World Cup this summer although he admits he would need to make "progress pretty quick" in order to convince Fabio Capello of his fitness.
The Manchester United midfielder is due to make his return in a reserve match against Burnley in Altrincham tonight, having spent 18 months out of the game with tendinitis in both knees.
Now 29, Hargreaves is still unsure of how his knees will stand up to competitive football but remains optimistic that he can play again at the highest level.
"The World Cup is an incentive. Absolutely. But I need to see progress now, pretty quick, for the World Cup to become even a realistic option," he told the Daily Telegraph.
"[Capello] was happy with how I played for England. When he saw me play for Man United he was happy with how I played. Whether in Germany or England, a manager has always played me, especially to win big games. Maybe he sees that and would like me to have an impact on the World Cup. I would love that."
Such an outcome would help soothe the memories of a torturous period for the Canada-born player. "I could never have imagined in my darkest dreams something like this would happen to me," he said. "My athletic ability has taken me everywhere I wanted to go, from Canada to Germany, playing for England, playing for Man United. To have that temporarily taken away is humbling."
Hargreaves believes that the problem began in 2007, when he rushed to overcome a broken leg sustained while playing for Bayern. "I didn't have the same quality muscle as before. Instead of muscles taking the shock absorption, my tendon was. But when I got an ache, I didn't stop. I kept playing.
"It wasn't dealt with the way it should have been initially. I saw so-called specialists who said 'this is what you need and you will have absolutely no reaction' and I had a massive reaction. You like to think you will get the best advice possible but that is not always possible."
Hargreaves, nonetheless, rejected the idea that he might adapt his competitive style of play when he finally does return to United colours. "Injuries take time. It's not a question of can I go into a 50-50? I wouldn't hesitate in the slightest. It's more about managing my training, making sure I don't do too much. If I play, shall I do 30 minutes? 40 minutes? Only I can feel it. If you have had double knee surgery you're going to feel it."

Hargreages to play for Manchester United reserves this evening
imscouting.com - march 18, 2010
Owen Hargreaves is set to make his long awaited return for Manchester United reserves and has not ruled out playing for England at the World Cup.
The former Bayern Munich midfielder will play for Manchester United reserves against Burnley in Altrincham tonight following a hugely frustrating 18-month lay-off with tendonitis in both knees in what will be a huge boost to Sir Alex Ferguson and perhaps Fabio Capello.
Hargreaves told the Daily Telegraph: "The World Cup is an incentive. Absolutely. But I need to see progress now, pretty quick, for the World Cup to become even a realistic option. [Capello] was happy with how I played for England. When he saw me play for Manchester United he was happy with how I played. Whether in Germany or England, a manager has always played me, especially to win big games. Maybe he sees that and would like me to have an impact on the World Cup. I would love that."
The Manchester United midfielder continued: "I could never have imagined in my darkest dreams something like this would happen to me, my athletic ability has taken me everywhere I wanted to go, from Canada to Germany, playing for England, playing for Man United. To have that temporarily taken away is humbling."
Hargreaves pinpoints his injury problems to 2007: "I didn't have the same quality muscle as before. Instead of muscles taking the shock absorption, my tendon was. But when I got an ache, I didn't stop. I kept playing. It wasn't dealt with the way it should have been initially. I saw so-called specialists who said 'this is what you need and you will have absolutely no reaction' and I had a massive reaction. You like to think you will get the best advice possible but that is not always possible."
The 29-year-old finally said how he expects to play on his return to the Manchester United first team: "Injuries take time. It's not a question of can I go into a 50-50? I wouldn't hesitate in the slightest. It's more about managing my training, making sure I don't do too much. If I play, shall I do 30 minutes? 40 minutes? Only I can feel it. PICTURE SPECIAL: Owen Hargreaves finally makes his comeback for United reserves
By Chris Wheeler Last updated at 11:45 PM on 18th March 2010
Owen Hargreaves refused to rule out an appearance at this summer's World Cup after making his long-awaited comeback.
The Manchester United midfielder, who has not played for 18 months due to chronic knee trouble, made an uneventful 45-minute appearance for the club's reserves in a 2-0 win over Burnley at Altrincham.
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/03/18/article-0-08C6831D000005DC-504_468x395.jpg
He said: 'I would love to have the opportunity to play for England again but I will have to see how I progress and just take it day by day.
'I would love to help and if I'm there, I'm there. I'm fit. I've been training incredibly hard and done everything I possibly could.
'I've seen the inside of a gym for about six hours every day and I've had enough of it. I'd like to get back to just doing football work - that would be fantastic.
'I've trained with the first-team. I've had a few sessions. The plan was to get me a reserve game and I've done that.'
Hargreaves, who last played for England nearly two years ago, could not put a date on his first-team return but he insisted he still has unfinished business at Old Trafford after seeing his £18m move from Bayern Munich turn sour.
He added: 'I had a very successful time at Bayern Munich and won everything, but I wanted a change. I wanted a challenge and to play for Man United. I wanted to come here and win the Champions League.
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/03/18/article-0-08C68E86000005DC-61_468x323.jpg
'We did that but I didn't really celebrate the win over Chelsea in Moscow. I was disappointed that I'd missed games. Although I had an impact, it wasn't as big as I would have wanted.
'So for me it's very much unfinished business. I came back a week early in pre-season to see the specialist but it hasn't materialised the way I'd hoped.
'I'm 29 but hopefully I have a lot of time left in football and those dreams can become reality.'
Hargreaves is still clearly angry about the treatment of his knee problems at Bayern, which he blames on rushing back too quickly from a broken leg.
Although Colorado surgeon Dr Richard Steadman is hopeful he has salvaged the player's career, 29-year-old Hargreaves is still counting the cost of being out of action for so long.
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/03/18/article-0-08C68FFD000005DC-733_468x393.jpg
Asked if he was unhappy about the way his injuries had been handled in the past, he said: 'Yes absolutely. Not everybody's right and people make mistakes, that's part of life. Ideally they don't involve you. When they do, you aren't too happy about it.
'In the end I missed two full seasons for Man United. I came here with high expectations for myself, and from the club's side of it, and the fans. To not to be able to play from 27 to 29 is incredibly disappointing.'
Playing in a deep midfield role, Hargreaves did not over-exert himself in the teeming rain at Moss Lane and was not involved in any tackles of note.
But he seemed to grow in confidence after delivering a searching long pass for striker Febian Brandy just before the half-hour mark, and began demanding the ball more.
He was replaced by Magnus Eikrem at half-time having completed his planned 45-minute appearance.

Owen relishes 'first step'
After so long on the sidelines, Owen Hargreaves was elated to be back in action for United Reserves. MUTV's Mark Sullivan caught up with the United midfielder for an exclusive dressing-room chat at Moss Lane after his 45 minute cameo...
Owen, finally you got onto the pitch... how did it feel?
It was lovely to be back in a team environment. It's been about 16 months, I think, while I've been having surgery and individual rehab, so having team-mates around you, getting used to playing on a bigger pitch and having opponents was great. It's been a very long time and it was great to do that first step.
It's the first step on the road to recovery, but an important one psychologically to get out on the pitch and play in a competitive match...
Absolutely. I don't think I could have anticipated the rehab and the whole thing taking as long as it has. It's been incredibly frustrating but I guess you just have to deal with it, take it step by step, try to be patient and and try to do what's best. Sometimes you can't force things. Today was the first step and hopefully I can kick on from here.
There's a lot of work you have to do in your rehab, isn't there? A lot of training on your own, lot of fitness work and this hard work is starting to pay off now... can you see light at the end of the tunnel?
Well it's been an incredibly long 16 months! I've invested a lot of time and so have a lot of people who have become very close to me as well. They've helped me a lot. But it has been a lot more time than I potentially would have expected just to be available for the squad, so I'm looking forward to getting back into a more normal training pattern and hopefully get back to playing some games.
And you can see by the number of fans that have turned up here tonight how much they want to see you back in a United shirt. That's got to be pleasing for you, to see them?
Well the reception has been fantastic. It's been disappointing for me, really. I came and we had a good first season and I came back early to do some training to hopefully be fit for the start of my second season and it just didn't work; it had an adverse affect to it and it just snowballed from there. The fans have been great. Always when they see me they ask when I'm going to be playing and tell me they want to see me play. I've been doing my utmost to be able to play, so I look forward to being able to run out on Old Trafford again in front of the fans and being able to repay the faith the fans have shown.
So what's the next step for you now?
Well I think I'm doing some injections, actually, which is part of my training and part of the whole protocol, so I think we'll try and get as much training in me as possible with this treatment and just continue on as I have. Obviously this was the first step and from here we should try to progress and go further. That's the plan.
And do you think first team football between now and the end of the season is a possibility for you?
I would like to think so, absolutely. That's what I'm aiming for. I'm not coming back just to be back, I want to come back and have just as much of an impact as I did in my first season. It means a lot to me, so those are my targets and it will happen when time's ready.
First and foremost we want to see you in a red shirt, but there's a World Cup at the end of the season - is that a realistic possiblity?
A lot of people talk about it and it's obviously a topic. You know... we'll just see. I just have to take it day by day. In a perfect world, obviously I'd love to be a part, but I have to do what's best for me, best for Man United and then England. Then we'll see. Obviously it's something I would like to be able to do and I'll just see how I progress in the next month.

Demi MU, Hargreaves Diminta Sampingkan Piala Dunia
Doni Wahyudi - detiksport
http://www.detiksport.com/images/content/2010/03/20/72/Hargreaves-Reuters150.jpg
"Saya pikir kami layak mendapatkan servis darinya.

Owen Hargreaves could make his comeback for Manchester United in April
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/03/19/article-0-08C68FFD000005DC-227_468x342.jpg
Owen Hargreaves could be back for Manchester United at the beginning of next month according to manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The United midfielder returned to action after an 18-month absence in a reserve team game against Burnley at Altrincham on Thursday night.
Hargreaves completed 45 minutes of the 2-0 win and will make another appearance with the second string against the same opposition at Accrington next week.
Ferguson already has a comeback plan in place for the England international and says he could have a major role in the title run-in.
'Hargreaves made his comeback, which is a big boost to the boy,' said Ferguson.
'I am delighted for him. He has been out of the game for 18 months, which is very difficult. He will need a couple of games more with the reserves.
'After that he should be back in the first team squad. It is a good one to get at this time of the season.'

Owen Hargreaves' slow Manchester United return a painful one
Owen Hargreaves is set to step up his comeback from career-saving knee surgery with the admission that he is still receiving injections to stem the pain from his injury.

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01603/owen-hargreaves_1603229c.jpg
The Manchester United midfielder, who returned from double knee surgery with a 45 minute run-out for the reserves against Burnley last Thursday, is expected to face the same opposition in the return fixture at Accrington Stanley’s Crown Ground on Thursday evening.
Hargreaves produced an impressive performance in his return to action last week, his first outing at any level since United’s Premier League draw at Chelsea in Sept 2008.
But while the England international insists he is determined to rediscover the form that prompted United to invest £19m to lure him from Bayern Munich in 2007, Hargreaves admits he is still some distance from being pain-free.
He said: “I wouldn’t say that I am pain-free. The surgery did its job, but I am still in the process of getting come injections to try to manage the pain.
“The pain is difficult to describe. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It’s just pain. During my first season (at United) I had the pain, but I was able to play through it.
“My tendon is significantly better than it was, but there is still a bit of pain that comes with. Whether that is through overloading in training or the operation, it’s hard to gauge really.
“I have been pretty patient with it so I’m just looking forward to the day I can just explode on the pitch. I would love that.
“But it’s about training, getting these injections and trying to go forward from here. I have played my first game now, though, so hopefully I will go on from here.
“For me, it’s very much unfinished business. I’m 29, but hopefully I have a lot of time left in football and, ideally, I want to play for another eight or nine years.”
Franz Beckenbauer, Bayern Munich’s honorary president, has claims Wayne Rooney is capable of winning the World Cup for England.
Beckenbauer said: “Rooney is doing an absolutely fantastic job for Manchester United and I must tell you that we at Bayern will fear him when we play United in the Champions League.
"He is a brilliant player who is playing better than ever. It is not easy to score 33 goals for your club in England, or anywhere else, and if he continues scoring like that and playing like that he can win the World Cup for England.”
Hargreaves IS Scoring…Just Not On Any Sort Football Pitch!
http://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/JanelleKhouri_228x3101-220x300.jpg
Strange, surreal, embarrassing, just a few words I came up with to represent how Owen Hargreaves must feel at the fact that his girlfriend has probably played more football matches than him. Hargreaves has of course re-ignited an old flame with Janelle Khouri.
Janelle happens to have been a professional football player herself, and played for the Canadian national under-20 team in 2000 and was captain of Calgary United’s under-19 team the year before.
She had previously been engaged to Hargreaves but the pair only started dating again after the crocked Manchester United player broke up with ex girlfriend Zabeena Harris. Reportedly on the basis that Hargreaves had enjoyed “a secret date with a former sweetheart.” All make sense?
Khouri is of course the lovely lady with whom the midfielder lived when he was rocking some Michael Ballack-style curtains at Bayern Munich. Janelle met Hargreaves while she on a football scholarship to the University of Massachusetts. Presumably impressing him with her ability to remain on the pitch for 90 minutes and off the treatment table for over a week.
None the less, it seems the pair are destined to be together forever. I hope she has got out health insurance this time though!

Owen Hargreaves insists he'd rather quit football than play a bit-part role for Manchester United
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/03/24/article-1260411-08C681F8000005DC-713_468x286.jpg
Owen Hargreaves is set to continue his Manchester United comeback on Thursday night, declaring he would rather quit football altogether than return as a bit-part player at Old Trafford.
Hargreaves was a Champions League winner and England regular when he succumbed to the tendinitis in both knees that had caused him chronic pain since joining United for £18m from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2007.
And the 29-year-old midfielder, in line to play his second game in a week for the reserves against Burnley at Accrington Stanley on Thursday night after being out for 18 months, insists he would not have gone through career-saving surgery and what he calls 'an incredibly long ordeal' if he could not get back to the same level.
'I had better get there,' he said.
'I'm not coming back to just be one of the guys, to fill a spot.
'I've never been that way and, if that's the case, then I'd rather walk away. I'm coming back to have an impact and hopefully I can do it this season.'
But Hargreaves admitted he still needs pain-killing injections and is uncertain whether the knees will ever be as good as before.
'I wouldn't say I'm pain-free,' said Hargreaves, whose condition was described by his surgeon Dr Richard Steadman as the worst case he had seen in 35 years.
'The surgery did its job and my tendon is significantly better than it was, but there is still a bit of pain. If I didn't have any, I would have played at the beginning of the season.
'I had the pain in my first season at United but I was able to play through it with a course of injections. Then it changed and obviously I had to have surgery. It was a massive operation. Very severe. I shouldn't have been playing when I was.
'The pain was difficult to describe. I wouldn't have wished it on anyone. But I've been pretty patient with it so I'm looking forward to the day I can just explode on the pitch. I'd love that. People have worse injuries than me. You just have to get on with it and that's what I will try to do.
'I feel good in myself. I'm definitely not short on confidence, otherwise I would never have got myself to this point.'
However, Hargreaves is still angry over the way his condition was treated initially.
He said: 'I think tendons are something that a lot of people think they know about but obviously don't - otherwise I wouldn't be in the position I'm in.'

Owen Hargreaves pulled out of Manchester United reserves game to train with first team as he eyes up a return
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/03/25/article-0-08C69015000005DC-422_468x374.jpg
Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has been handed a boost by manager Sir Alex Ferguson after he pulled him out of the reserves to train with the first team.
The 29-year-old was scheduled to continue his comeback from major knee surgery with another appearance for the second string against Burnley at Accrington.
He played his first game for 18 months in the reserves against the Clarets last week but will not be joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side for Thursday night's game.
'Owen won't play for the reserves tonight,' Ferguson told the club's official website.
'He's going to be training with the first team and we'll see where that takes him.
'We're keen to get him back involved because he's an experienced player and will be a valuable addition for us in the run-in, when having a strong, fit squad is vital.'
Hargreaves is only eligible for the Barclays Premier League as he was not registered for the Champions League knockout phase because of uncertainty over his recovery.
And the player himself has admitted there were times during his long fight for fitness that he wondered whether he would ever play again.
'It is only human to think that way,' he said.
'The longest injury before that was when I broke my leg at Bayern Munich and I was out for a couple of months.
'Football is a physical game and injuries are part of it. But I could never imagine having one that has impacted on me so much.
'I thought - everyone thought - I would be fit for the start of the season. It didn't materialise.
'It has been a pretty humbling experience and I am sure many people doubted me, but anybody who knows me, knows that what I set my mind to, I get.'
Renowned Colorado-based surgeon Dr Richard Steadman told the midfielder his
knees were in a worse state than he had ever come across in 35 years of practising.
And, although Hargreaves has reported a vast improvement, he still experiences discomfort and there is a chance he will never be fully clear of the problem.
'I wouldn't say I am pain-free and I don't know if I can play through it,' he said.
'My training has improved over the last weeks and that is a very positive sign for me. I believe that it will continue to improve and progress.
'But I am still in the process of getting some injections to try to manage the pain because if I didn't have any I would have played at the beginning of the season.'

Hargreaves Batal Main Lagi
http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2010/03/21/0017143p.jpg
(SCN)

Manchester United v Chelsea: Owen Hargreaves could make United bench
Owen Hargreaves is close to his long awaited return to first team action with Manchester United and could even make the bench for Saturday’s potentially decisive clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford, according to Sir Alex Ferguson.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01608/owen-hargreaves_1608926a.jpg
Ferguson revealed this morning that he is considering bringing Hargreaves – who has not played a first-team game for Manchester United since September 2008 after undergoing surgery to both knees – and John O’Shea back into the fold over the coming week.
O’Shea has been missing since suffering complications in his recovery from a dead leg sustained in the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup play-off defeat to France in November.
Although it appears O’Shea is further forward on the comeback trail, the fact Hargreaves is not part of United’s European squad and therefore unavailable for Wednesday’s quarter-final second-leg against former club Bayern Munich, lends weight to the belief Ferguson will have the 29-year-old on the bench against Chelsea.
‘’John O’Shea and Owen Hargreaves have trained very well with the first team,’’ said Ferguson.
‘’They are not far away and I may use one of them as substitute tomorrow and the other on Wednesday.
‘’John O’Shea in particular has done a lot of work. The boy has come on terrifically well in the last two or three weeks.
‘’If I include one tomorrow and one on Wednesday it will give them the confidence that they are back.
‘’That is what they need.’’

Fergie Tak Berniat Mainkan Hargreaves

Preview Manchester City vs Man.United
Hargreaves Kemungkinan Masuk Line Up MU
Zika Zakiya
VIVAnews - Untuk pertama kalinya sejak September 2008, Owen Hargreaves kembali masuk skuad Manchester United.

Owen Hargreaves: I'll be back fighting fit for Manchester United next season
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/05/05/article-1272745-0967129D000005DC-58_233x279.jpg
Owen Hargreaves has vowed to return stronger than ever next season after his 21-month injury nightmare.
The Manchester United midfielder finally made his long-awaited comeback from double knee surgery as a substitute in the final minute of the 1-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday.
Hargreaves is unlikely to feature in the crunch final-day clash with Stoke that could decide if they win the title but he is determined to be back properly in August.
He said: 'I've missed two seasons and I'm disappointed about that. But I'm 29 and hopefully I've got another six to eight years left in me.
'Being out for so long is obviously not something I would have envisaged myself going through. It's been a learning experience and I try and take the positives from it.
'It was short against Sunderland but obviously I'm looking forward to next season. We've got our last game this weekend [against Stoke] and hopefully I'll play a bit again, and then hopefully get ready to attack next season.'
Hargreaves would have been a serious contender for the World Cup but England boss Fabio Capello is unlikely to consider taking such an injury-prone player to South Africa.

Mystery over Hargreaves exit
-manchestereveningnews.co.uk-
http://m.gmgrd.co.uk/res/670.$plit/C_71_article_1239406_image_list_image_list_item_0_ image.jpg?10%2F05%2F2010%2010%3A26%3A30%3A731
Owen Hargreaves' flimsy hopes of an 11th hour World Cup call up ended with an early mystery Old Trafford exit.
England boss Fabio Capello names his provisional 30-man squad for South Africa tomorrow.
Hargreaves had hoped a last day appearance for the Reds might see him sneak in the back door and into the Italian's thoughts.
The 29-year-old has endured a torrid time with injuries but made his first United appearance for 20 months last week against Sunderland.
It was nothing more than a 30-second cameo appearance in added on time at the Stadium of Light, but it revived hopes he might be looked on as a fresh-legged addition to Capello's midfield.
However, he wasn't in Sir Alex Ferguson's 17-man line-up on duty against Stoke and he was pictured grim-faced leaving Old Trafford early. Wayne Rooney's outstanding personal campaign also ended in torment, but at least Fergie was able to report that the 24-year-old talisman will be fine for the World Cup.
Double PFA and Football Writers' Footballer of the Year, Rooney (below) was subbed after 76 minutes against Stoke and came off wincing with a groin injury.
But Ferguson had good news for Capello.
"Wayne has aggravated his groin again. I don't think it is serious. He will be OK for England," he reported.
But it was double agony for Rooney, who was also voted United players' and fans' Player of the Year last week.
He went into the final day of the league campaign level pegging with Chelsea's Didier Drogba on 26 league goals in the race for the Golden Boot.
But while Rooney drew a blank in United's 4-0 victory against Stoke, his Ivory Coast rival stormed ahead to steal the personal honour with a hat- trick against Wigan.

Hargreaves Marah dengan MU?
http://media.vivanews.com/thumbs2/2010/05/12/89489_owen_hargreaves_300_225.jpg
VIVAnews - Gelandang Manchester United, Owen Hargreaves, dilaporkan pergi meninggalkan skuad Manchester United di Old Trafford pada Minggu 9 Mei 2010 sore waktu setempat dengan terburu-buru. Menggunakan mobil Audi abu-abu miliknya, Hargreaves meninggalkan Theatre of Dreams pukul 3.10 sore.

England World Cup squad: Sir Alex Ferguson Ferguson vetoed Owen Hargreaves call-up
Owen Hargreaves was dropped from Fabio Capello’s provisional World Cup squad on the day it was announced after a last-ditch intervention from Sir Alex Ferguson.
http://i.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01637/owen-hargreaves_1637675c.jpg
The Manchester United manager bumped into Capello at the League Managers Association dinner in London on Monday night and on discovering that the Italian was planning to take Hargreaves to Austria, told him the player was not ready for a call-up.
“Owen Hargreaves has not had enough football, you couldn’t possibly have picked him and that was always straight forward,” Ferguson has since said.
Hargreaves has barely played a minute of competitive football after 18 months out with knee injuries but sources at the Football Association have revealed that Capello was planning to take him to the Alpine training camp in Irdning as a wild card.
It is a testament to Ferguson’s influence, and the strength of his relationship with Capello, that the normally flinty Italian allowed himself to be dissuaded.
In November 2008, Capello insisted that Steven Gerrard report to the team hotel to be assessed by the England medical staff despite Liverpool claiming he had injured a groin muscle in his previous game.
It was a clear statement that Capello would not be pushed around by the clubs. In this instance, however, he has decided to trust Ferguson’s judgment.
It was reported last week that Hargreaves stormed away from Old Trafford after being left out of the squad to face Stoke City on the final day of the season, denying him the chance to prove he was ready for inclusion in the England provisional squad.
The player left 50 minutes before kick-off after being excluded from the 18-man squad, with United claiming it was due to illness. He was spotted driving away from the ground in his grey Audi at 3.10pm.
There has been some concern within the England management team about the information they have been receiving from Old Trafford about the fitness of their England players and will perform their own assessments after arriving in Austria tomorrow.
With Gareth Barry’s ankle injury all but ruling him out there is a shortage of cover in central midfield. Scott Parker of West Ham was called up and Capello felt it was worth gambling on the fitness of Hargreaves rather than opting for Jermaine Jenas of Tottenham or Hull’s Jimmy Bullard.
Capello met with his team on Tuesday morning and after much discussion it was decided that Hargreaves would no longer be included and that Barry would be included as the wild card instead, even though the England manager had all but ruled him out the previous evening.
Barry’s case was helped when the final assessment on his ankle ligament damage was brought forward from May 30 to 24 giving Capello more to time to assess his readiness.
The England squad leaves for Austria on Monday and play Mexico in a friendly back at Wembley on May 24 and Japan in Graz on June 30. The final 23-man squad is announced on June 1.

Soal Hargreaves, Ferguson Veto Capello
http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2010/05/06/0342439p.jpg
(TEL)

Kayaknya option terakhir masuk akal, inggris kekurangan defending mid yg bnr2 ORI,. Capello ngga berani eksperimen c. Negara laen banyak yg justru kasi kesempatan ama pemain yg notebene belom punya Caps sama sekali. Jadi? yahh mungkin DOn Fabio punya pertimbangan sendiri dan skrg uda nemuin DM nya...:-bd:-bd

Fergie: Hargreaves Harus Berani
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detiksport
