He arrived with the billing: the ‘new Ronaldinho’. But upon his arrival at Old Trafford from FC Porto in summer 2007 most Reds were left asking: ‘Anderson who?’

After a wondrous debut season the Brazilian's talents are well known not just in Manchester, but around the world. The Ronaldinho comparisons are inevitable given both players began their careers at Brazilian side Gremio, who Anderson Luis de Abreu Oliveira (to give his full name) joined at the age of just five.

But that’s really where the similarities end. Where Ronaldinho is all flicks and flamboyance, Anderson (or Ando as he is known to his team-mates) is bustling with energy and possesses an eye for a defence-splitting pass. He has skill and technical ability in abundance, but his preference for midfield combat could bring you to question his Brazilian roots (more so if you spotted his dancing after lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy in May 2008!)

At Gremio, Anderson made his first appearance aged just 16. He is most fondly remembered for a wonder goal against Nautico in November 2005, which earned a 1-0 win and promotion back to the top flight. He also earned a reputation internationally, shining shone with Brazil at the 2005 U17 World Cup, where he won the Adidas Golden Ball for most valuable player.

Porto soon came knocking in January 2006, where he won the Portuguese Championship in 2005/06 and 2006/07, although his progress was hampered by a broken leg causing him to miss much of the latter campaign.

Sir Alex couldn’t quite believe the reports coming back from his scouts, who rated the teenager as among the best prospects in the world. Upon further investigation, the Reds realised this was a player not to miss out on, and moved quickly to stave off interest from Barcelona.

Anderson wasn’t involved in the early matches of United's 2007/08 double-winning campaign, but he soon made up for it. His competitive debut against Sunderland caught the eye before another fine display against Wigan (he claimed to be the best player on the pitch) highlighted his true potential. He was simply outstanding in United’s 2-2 draw at the Emirates in November 2007, refusing to be bullied by Cesc Fabregas and his willingness to mix it with the game’s biggest names was again apparent at Anfield in December, when a lion-hearted display against Steven Gerrard was one of the game’s major talking points.

Anderson featured in nine of the Reds' 13 games on the way to UEFA Champions League glory and held his nerve to smash home United's penultimate penalty in the 6-5 shoot-out win against Chelsea in the final. He has continued to add to his medal haul - helping his country to bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, before playing his part in United's Club World Cup triumph in Japan and then firing the trophy-clinching penalty in the shoot-out in the 2009 League Cup final win over Tottenham at Wembley. He also picked up his second Barclays Premier League winners' medal in May 2009.

He’s set a standard and big things are expected of him in the coming years, but it’s safe to say ‘Anderson’ and ‘who?’ will not come packaged in the same sentence again.

Manchester United's Anderson was spotted leaving his local branch of Barclays bank brandishing a rather large wad after withdrawing £1,000 in £20 notes.

The midfielder looked rather sheepish as he passed a sign advertising a sandwich for £4.95. Perhaps he was just very hungry. With his money he could have bought 202 of the tasty snacks.

Or maybe the former Porto player was off to buy a new t-shirt. The effort he was seen sporting could be described as an acquired taste, so might need replacing. Knowing Premier League footballers' expensive shopping habits, he might get one whole t-shirt for a grand.

Of course, Anderson could have been in a very generous mood and decided to buy fellow United midfielder Michael Carrick a holiday in the sun for a few weeks. He might have a better chance of getting into the United team then.

UNITED midfielder Anderson has been told he can leave Old Trafford after an argument with boss Sir Alex Ferguson, according to a report.

The Brazilian reacted badly to being left out of the Reds line up for the Community Shield, and refused to back down when Ferguson confronted him about his actions, report the Daily Mirror.

Anderson has played 59 minutes of United's three Premier League games so far, in the 1-0 defeat at Burnley. He wasn't in the squad for the 5-0 win at Wigan.

Manchester United midfielder Anderson been told to work harder in training by manager Sir Alex Ferguson but has stressed that he wants to stay and fight for his first team place.

The young Brazilian has only started one game so far this season - the defeat to Burnley last week - and clashed verbally with Ferguson after being left out of the team for the Community Shield against Chelsea at Wembley. It is understood that Ferguson had not been enthused about Anderson's pre-season training, something the 21-year-old has now vowed to put right.

Anderson told Sportsmail: ‘I believed that I would play in the Community Shield but that is forgotten now.

‘I thought that, without Cristiano Ronaldo around, I could to play more and that has been my challenge from pre-season onwards. But the coach decides the teams and to discuss this with him is foolish because he is the chief. I do not want to leave United. No.

‘Sir Alex Ferguson has demanded a bigger effort from me and I accept that. Because to get in to this United team is very complicated and difficult for any playe

Anderson is not the only player to experience the flipside of Ferguson's rotation policy, though, as players like Michael Carrick and Michael Owen have been used sparingly so far. Anderson added: ‘I do not have a problem with Ferguson although it is normal that I want more minutes on the field. I never have asked for explanations, though. Ferguson knows each player and he knows what to do.’

United's defensive problems have worsened this week as Jonny Evans has been unable to train due to an ankle problem. With Rio Ferdinand already out of Saturday's big Barclays Premier League game with Arsenal at Old Trafford, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was hopeful that Evans would be able to struggle on with a problem that has bothered him for the last month.

But Evans - who has admitted that he will need an operation before long - has sat out two days of first team work this week after being replaced during Saturday's victory at Wigan and clearly faces a battle to be fit for Saturday.

United's other senior central defender Nemanja Vidic is fit but is still the subject of an FA investigation after appearing to strike Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega in the face at the DW Stadium.

Manchester - Jarang dimainkan dalam beberapa pekan terakhir membuat Anderson dikabarkan akan segera meninggalkan Manchester United. Sebuah kabar yang akhirnya ia bantah.

Tampil bagus selama ujicoba pra-musim ternyata tak menjadi jaminan Anderson bakal terus dimainkan sebagai pemain inti. Sebab faktanya, gelandang asal Brasil ini justru dibiarkan duduk di bangku cadangan pada laga melawan Chelsea di Community Shield.

Berpindah pertandingan perdana Premier League melawan Birmingham City, Anderson juga tak diturunkan. Sir Alex Ferguson hanya menempatkannya sebagai pelengkap skuad, hanya membiarkannya duduk di bench saja.

Pemuda 21 tahun ini baru diturunkan oleh Sir Alex pada laga kedua melawan Burnley, midweek lalu. Tetapi laga tersebut tak berakhir baik untuknya. Selain dinilai tampil relatif tak terlalu bagus, The Red Devils juga menderita kekalahan 0-1.

Wajar apabila kemudian ia kembali dilupakan ketika MU menghadapi Wigan Athletic akhir pekan silam. Pada pertandingan itu, 'Setan Merah' menang 5-0 dan Anderson bahkan tak ada di bangku cadangan.

Rumor pun menyeruak bahwa dirinya mulai gerah dan telah meminta Sir Alex untuk melegonya. Tetapi, kabar yang terakhir ini langsung ditampiknya. Menurutnya, adalah wajar jika di klub sebesar MU seorang pemain kesulitan mencari tempat di tim inti.

"Saya sempat percaya bahwa saya akan dimainkan di Community Shield, tapi saya sudah melupakan itu sekarang. Saya berpikir, dengan hengkangnya Cristiano Ronaldo, saya bisa bermain lebih sering," tandasnya seperti dilansir Daily Mail.

"Tetapi pelatihlah yang menentukan timnya. Memperdebatkan hal ini dengannya adalah sebuah kebodohan karena dialah pemimpinnya. Saya tidak ingin meninggalkan Manchester United. Tidak," tegasnya.

Setelah menyatakan penegasan atas rumor tersebut, Anderson pun menyatakan kesiapannya untuk bersaing mendapatkan tempat utama. Dituntut untuk tampil lebih baik, itu adalah hal yang biasa baginya.

"Sir Alex Ferguson telah meminta usaha yang lebih besar lagi dari saya dan saya menerimanya. Pasalnya, untuk bisa masuk ke tim seperti United adalah hal yang sangat rumit dan sulit bagi pemain mana pun," tukasnya.

Wah ini kabar baik :D.. bener tuh, wajar banget kalo tiap pemain pengen jadi first teamer.. Apalagi di tim sekelas united, dan wajar sih kalo emang dia frustasi ga dimaenin, tapi yang penting jangan ampe emosi, tunjukkan kualitas yang baik dan terus manfaatin peluang-peluang untuk bersinar :)

Manchester - Penampilan Anderson untuk Manchester United belakangan telah menuai kritik dan ketidakpuasan, meski Ole Gunnar Solskjaer yang melatih tim cadangan MU masih yakin dengan kemampuan si pemain Brasil.

Dalam beberapa pertandingan terakhir MU, tak ada nama Anderson dalam starting XI. Tergesernya dia dari tim inti adalah dampak dari sejumlah aksinya yang biasa-biasa saja di lapangan belakangan ini.

Meski demikian, Anderson yang hijrah ke MU dua tahun lalu tetap diyakini akan segera bisa meninggalkan permainannya yang standar dan segera membuktikan kelayakan diri di lapangan.

Di musim pertamanya untuk MU, Anderson sebenarnya mampu mencuri perhatian dengan penampilannya yang penuh potensi. Sayang itu mulai menurun semenjak musim lalu. "Itu biasa terjadi pada banyak pemain," bela Solskjaer.

Manchester - Sempat diisukan hengkang, tak mempengaruhi penampilan Anderson. Performa penuh totalitas gelandang Manchester United ini berbuah manis. Awak MU pun memintanya untuk meneruskan apa yang telah ia capai.

Brazilian midfielder Anderson insists he is happy with life at Manchester United.

After a disappointing start to the campaign, when he was involved in just one of United's opening four Premier League games - the shock defeat at Burnley - Anderson is starting to find his form again.

The 21-year-old added another five appearances to his tally during September - and also managed to score his first goal for the Old Trafford outfit, over two years after his £17million arrival from FC Porto.

And the midfielder admits he is enjoying himself again.

"I feel happy here," said Anderson.

"Everybody has times that are not the best but I am at home here.

"I have been at Manchester United for three years. Everyone at the club is nice to me. It is like a family."

Anderson has suffered more than most in the summer upheaval that marked the departures of close friends Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.

He is still in touch with the pair, but feels it is time for United to look to the future.

"Ronaldo is still a big friend of mine. Wherever he and Tevez are, nothing will change. We are great friends," said Anderson.

"They were both very important players for this club.

"However, this often happens in football and the club has to move on.

"We still have great players here like Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Nani. Now we also have Antonio Valencia.

"United must go forward and not get stuck in the past."

Sir Alex Ferguson will certainly be intending for United to go forward this weekend, when his side entertain Bolton looking for a win after that unexpected and controversial slip-up against Sunderland a fortnight ago.

Wayne Rooney and Jonny Evans will both be checked after pulling out of midweek international engagements, while Edwin van der Sar is expected to earn a recall after breaking his fingers during a pre-season game in Munich.

As for Anderson, he is just hoping for another opportunity to add to his scoring tally.

"I should score more goals but the way the team plays it can be very difficult to get inside the area," he said.

"Hopefully I will have more chances in the future and I can score lots more for Manchester United."

Bergabung selama tiga tahun, Anderson mengakui kalau semua orang di Old Trafford membuatnya betah. Perumpamaan yang digunakannya adalah 'rumah saya'.

"Saya sudah berada di MU selama tiga tahun. Semua sangat baik padaku dan bertindak seperti keluarga," kata Anderson pada Sporting Life, Jumat 16 Oktober 2009.

Anderson diboyong pada tahun 2007 dari FC Porto. Manajer Sir Alex Ferguson memilih sendiri Anderson untuk jadi pengisi skuadnya. Tadinya ia diproyeksikan jadi rekan sepadan untuk Cristiano Ronaldo.

Namun di awal musim ia bergabung, Anderson ternyata mengalami kesulitan untuk melakukan hal itu. Hingga sekarang pun, pria 21 tahun itu mengakui sulit mencetak gol bahkan mendapat kesempatan bermain di MU.

"Saya harus mencetak gol lagi, tapi cara tim ini bermain membuatku sulit untuk masuk ke lapangan," kata Anderson.

Penampilan Anderson sempat kembali mencuri perhatian ketika Ronaldo hijrah ke Real Madrid. Meski demikian, hubungan yang sudah dijalinnya bersama CR tidak putus karena perbedaan Liga dan negara.

"Ronaldo masih jadi salah satu teman baikku. Di mana pun dia dan (Carlos) Tevez berada, tidak akan ada yang berubah," tambah Anderson.

Anderson’s Manchester United career has been a mixed bag to say the least. When he signed from Porto in the summer of 2007 there were high hopes for the Brazilian after Kleberson left a bitter taste in United fan’s mouths.

There were early comparisons with Ronaldinho, especially as both had started their careers at Gremio but that was where the comparisons ended as instead of flicks and fancy touches United got an energetic midfield battler.

It was in a game against Wigan when Anderson really impressed and lead me to think what exactly did United have on their hands? On as a substitute he battled all over the park whilst playing sublime passes, the most notable being the assist for United’s first as Tevez raced through onto a nicely weighted ball beat 2 players and the keeper before hitting the back of the net.

Anderson’s performance on that day was over shadowed by the result and quality football United played but he would have his time in the spotlight with dominating performances against some of the Premier League’s best midfielders as he would shackle the likes of Steven Gerrard and Cesc Fabregas on his way to the winning the Premier League title.

Yet it appeared he set too high a standard for himself as his second season was not as spectacular as his first. Hindered by injury as well as fatigue from travelling to Beijing to play for Brazil at the Olympics, Anderson’s early season performances were lethargic (a massive problem considering a major part of his game is built on energy and constantly being active) and up until the Carling Cup final, it looked as if the Brazilian had been a one season wonder. But Anderson soon found his form and put in strong displays against Porto in the Champions League quarter final, Portsmouth in the league and most notably against Arsenal in the Champions League semi final (Anderson seems to love playing against Fabregas), where he harassed Arsenal’s midfield as well as playing a part in United’s opener with a defence splitting pass that found Ronaldo who set up Park Ji Sung.

Anderson had seemed to find form at the right time and after his performance in the semi final it was felt that his energy and industry would help United deal with the formidable partnership of Xavi and Iniesta in the Champions League final against Barcelona.

After an encouraging start for United, Xavi, Iniesta and Barcelona came to life. The duo pulled the strings in the midfield retaining possession, playing effective passes and dictating the pace of the game leaving Carrick, Park, Giggs and Anderson to chase shadows. Given his big chance to shine, Anderson never looked so ineffective and was duly substituted at half time for Carlos Tevez.

Yet the whole situation seems to be a metaphor for his career at United. One day he can show why he is so highly regarded the world over and on other days he can look average. It’s more than obvious that Anderson is talented and if applied, this talent could make him a top midfielder in coming years but he will need to find some kind of consistency before this can happen.

In the coming years, especially as Scholes is in the twilight of his career, Anderson will find his role in the team growing but only if he can manage to maintain the kind of form from his first season that had United fan excited.

At 21, Anderson is clearly not the finished article and will need to work on his passing, which although is of a good standard can be hit and miss and he will need to provide more of a threat in front of goal having only scored twice (once in a friendly) in his United career.

But if Ferguson manages to get the kind of form out of Anderson that he is capable of, then he could have some player on his hands.

Namun, Anderson telah menembus persaingan untuk tempat (utama) setelah menunjukkan performa hebat. Ia baru 21 tahun, tetapi (performanya) mapan dan dewasa," ulas Ferguson.

"Kompetisi tidak meredupkan kepercayaan dirinya. Ia memiliki keyakinan kepada potensinya seperti umumnya pemain Brasil dan ia akan menjadi pemain besar. But the burly Brazilian is vowing to return to the lean, mean figure that wowed fans at Porto before his move to Old Trafford in 2007.

Anderson has failed to deliver a goal threat from midfield with just one strike in 96 appearances - in United's 3-1 victory at Spurs earlier this season.

He admitted: "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed in my goal performance at United. In fact it makes me sad.

"And one of my first objectives is to get back to the condition I was in at Porto, then start scoring goals which decide matches because that's vital for any player's career.

"I know that a footballer of my ability, who is accustomed to playing an attacking role and is used to scoring goals regularly, must be sad to only score a goal every six months.

"But I must not let myself feel dispirited. I need a run of games where I'm doing well."

Anderson, 21, knows he could struggle to stay in the first team unless he produces some explosive form soon - especially after United's shock 1-0 FA Cup defeat by Leeds.

And the midfielder, who came to England in a £35million joint deal with Porto team-mate Nani, is well aware bigger names than him have tried and failed to make the grade at Old Trafford.

He added: "Some great players haven't managed to do well at United because it's such a demanding club.

"I know you must have a big heart. It's what the guys who have been here the longest pass on to us. We are trying to get into football's history books - that's part of what makes United the way it is."

Anderson faces a battle to win over Alex Ferguson and the United faithful once and for all. But he is used to tackling challenges head-on.

He revealed: "I grew up on Rubem Berta in Porto Alegre, which is a very tough place.

"Very few manage to live a good life unless they take up the drugs trade, are good students or play football.

"I wasn't a great student and drugs weren't for me because I didn't want to die young. I just preferred to play football.

"At 13, I was already part of the Brazil youth team. By then I was really street-smart and knew what I wanted."

Anderson also revealed the part former United star Cristiano Ronaldo played in persuading him to come to Old Trafford.

He said: "Ronaldo was always telling me 'Come over here because you are the type of player for Manchester United'.

"I was having a great season for Porto, playing really well and we were about to play Chelsea in the Champions League when I broke my leg.

"That was the most difficult moment of my life. Then five games after my return, I moved to United. It was out of this world."

United face Birmingham tonight and boss Ferguson has accused Brum's former owners David Sullivan and David Gold of holding the club back.

They ran the show at St Andrew's until they sold to Carson Yeung in September.

Fergie said: "The old regime were set in their ways about financing the team.

"There never seemed to be any understanding how big Birmingham could be."

French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain hope to complete the January transfer deadline day signing of Manchester United midfielder Anderson , according to L’Equipe.

PSG have been in discussions with the Premier League champions as they are looking for a left-sided midfielder.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had been unwilling to let Anderson leave Old Trafford but has reportedly now relented after the Brazilian midfielder went AWOL last week.

The 21-year-old midfielder travelled to Rio last week without telling anyone at the club after he was left out of Manchester United ’s first team for the match against Hull City.

Whilst in Brazil, Anderson held discussions with Vasco Da Gama who admitted they could not afford the Manchester United midfielder.

Anderson out for six months

United midfielder Anderson has been ruled out for six months with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The Brazilian was forced off in the first half against West Ham on Tuesday and will undergo an operation in Portugal in a fortnight, but Sir Alex Ferguson hopes the 21-year-old will be fit for the start of the 2010/11 campaign.

"The real bad news we have got is that Anderson has suffered a cruciate knee injury and he’ll be out for rest of the season," confirmed the boss on Thursday. "It’s unfortunate for the boy. It’s a bad blow.

"We’ve assessed the situation, we know he needs an operation. That will be done in two weeks’ time when the swelling has gone down. We’re going to let him go to Portugal to do it. Sometimes we send them to Colorado and to Dr Richard Steadman, but on this occasion he is comfortable with the specialist he has dealt with at Porto in the past. He will deal with it. We made these decisions yesterday once we had assessed the damage. But hopefully, six months, should have him about right for the new season."

The incident itself against West Ham seemed innocuous enough, Anderson stretching to reach the ball to make a pass. "With these types of injuries, it’s usually something simple. He stretched to pass the ball and his knee just popped," added the boss.

"It’s a bad bit of news for him. He was just getting back into the first team after being out for a few weeks. He was looking forward to it and he was showing great energy in the match.

"So that is a blow to us, particularly with the Milan game coming up, because Michael Carrick is suspended for that one."

Manchester - Kemenangan Manchester United atas West Ham United kemarin meminta tumbal. Cedera Anderson di laga itu ternyata parah dan memaksanya untuk menepi setidaknya selama enam bulan.

Anderson bermain sejak awal dalam laga lanjutan Liga Inggris di Old Trafford, Rabu (24/2/2010) dinihari WIB tersebut. Namun sayang dia harus ditarik keluar ketika partai baru berusia 19 menit karena mendapat cedera dan digantikan Park Ji-Sung.

Setelah dilakukan pemeriksaan lanjutan diketahui bahwa cedera yang membeli ligamen pada lututnya itu cukup serius. Tim dokter klub mendiagnosis waktu pemulihan sekitar enam bulan.

"Gelandang Manchester United, Anderson terpaksa menepi selama enam bulan karena cedera ligamen lutut. Dia terpaksa ditarik keluar di babak pertama dalam laga melawan West Ham, Selasa kemarin," begitu pernyataan di situs resmi klub.

Kekhawatiran Anderson sebetulnya bukan hanya pada musim 2009/10 ini yang telah dilewatkannya. Jika proses pemulihan tidak berjalan lancar, bukan tidak mungkin pemain asal Brasil ini masih harus absen ketika musim depan dimulai.

Anderson di musim ini kontribusinya memang kurang jika dibandingkan musim lalu. Dia baru tampil sebanyak 14 kali di antaranya sebagai pemain pengganti dan menyumbang satu gol dan dua assist.

Manchester United To Offer Anderson Plus Cash For Benfica Ace Angel Di Maria

Manchester United will offer attacking midfielder Anderson plus €10 million for Benfica winger Angel di Maria, according to news daily Record.

The Argentina international has long been on the radar of United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who is believed to face competition from other Premier League sides, as well as La Liga clubs, for the 22-year-old's signature.

This is the second time this season that Ferguson plots a move for Di Maria after the Scottish gaffer failed to land him in December after reportedly offering Benfica €10 million and the services of Nani.

The Guardian quoting local sources, claim that the 22-year-old had spent the night at the Sardinha Biba nightclub before leaving in a £125,000 Audi R8 and witnesses say he was pulled ''lifeless'' from the wreckage before it went up in flames.

The stories had been going around since yesterday afternoon that Anderson had been involved in a car accident.

Confirmed reports today reveal just how lucky Anderson is to not only still have his career in front of him, but his life too.

It’s hard to avoid going Hollywood on you here, as he was pulled “lifeless” from the burning wreckage of a car, before it exploded.

According to reports in Portugal, where the crash occurred, Anderson has picked up a reputation this summer for his partying lifestyle. He left the Sardinha Biba nightclub in the Geres area of Braga and crashed in to a wall at 7am. He was in a two-seater Audi R8 with a friend, Victor, and a Brazilian woman, and it is unknown who was driving.

The Gestifute agency, which represents Anderson, said Anderson had suffered an “almighty scare” but would be returning to Manchester to continue his rehabilitation, whilst a spokesperson for the hospital where Anderson spent a couple of hours talked of only “minor injuries”.

Anderson is now the centre of a police investigation in Portugal and could be up for drink driving charges.

This is not the ‘Manchester United way’ and I can only imagine what Sir Alex Ferguson is going to do when he gets wind of this. The midfielder’s attitude has been poor and getting involved in something like this is hardly proving to the manager he is taking his rehabilitation from injury and his United career seriously.

Anderson disappeared off to Brazil at the start of the year without the club’s permission, following limited playing time after some substandard performances.

“I went to Brazil to think about my future and not to negotiate with other clubs,” he said on his return.

“This is very hard for me because I need minutes on the field during the coming matches. I always had a good relation with Ferguson. He has asked me for more effort and I accept that, but I need more chances to play in the first team. The decision not to ask me to travel to Milan was down to the coach. I just hope I have more luck and can play in the return game. I am a professional footballer and my responsibility is to United. Am I happy? I would say I am optimistic. If I play more games then I will be happy. But that is normal. Some European clubs have asked about me but, as far as I am concerned, my future is still with United. I am not finished here and I’m convinced that I can offer much to this team in the decisive moments of the season.”

That very same evening, Anderson started for United against West Ham and ruptured his cruciate.

Does he have a United future? We’re two weeks away from the start of the season, Anderson is supposed to be working hard to be back for the end of September, and he’s boozing it up until 7am in a club. I’ll back the manager whatever on this one. Not impressed, Ando.

Rewind three years : “I could not imagine I would ever get to work with a manager like Sir Alex Ferguson but it has happened. What can I say? It is a dream the size of the world. Ever since I was a boy I always wanted to play for Manchester United and now that dream has come true. I am very happy.”

LISBON – Maut hampir saja menjemput gelandang Manchester United, Anderson, setelah dirinya mengalami kecelakaan mobil yang cukup fatal, akhir pekan kemarin. Anderson sendiri mengaku tidak menyangka dirinya bisa selamat dari tragedi itu.

Seperti dilaporkan The Sun, Senin (2/8/2010), pemain 22 tahun itu baru saja pulang dari sebuah klub malam bersama dua rekannya. Mobil sports Audi R8 yang membawa dirinya, mengantam tembok pembatas dan terbakar di Lisbon.

Anderson dikabarkan pingsan, namun sempat tertolong dan dikeluarkan dari mobil. Anderson sendiri langsung dilarikan ke rumah sakit terdekat untuk mendapat perawatan. Pihak rumah sakit menyatakan korban hanya mengalami luka ringan, namun cukup syok.

Seorang juru bicara dari keluarga Anderson menyatakan jika Anderson sudah bisa berkomunikasi. Hanya, dirinya masih cukup terkejut. Dia bahkan mengira jika tidak akan selamat dari kecelakaan tersebut.

Kasus ini sendiri masih diselidiki kepolisian setempat. Belum diketahui siapa pengemudi mobil nahas tersebut. Hanya, bisa dilaporkan jika ada tiga penumpang dalam mobil, termasuk Anderson dan seorang rekan wanitanya. (van)

Anderson has spoken out to calm worries following his dangerous car accident. It emerged that after clubbing until the small hours in Portugal, Anderson drove his car in to a wall after he lost control.

I remember people coming to help, which I am very grateful for. I just want to tell United fans I am fine and I will continue my rehabilitation so I can help the team. Anderson cannot wait to return to action for Manchester United after recovering from the serious knee injury which abruptly curtailed his 2009/10 season.

The Brazilian suffered cruciate ligament damage against West Ham in February and returned to Portugal to recuperate after surgery.

He is now back at United's Carrington training complex and could come into contention for a first-team place sometime next month.

The 22-year-old told the club's official website, www.manutd.com: "I'm so happy and excited to be back again after six months without football. I've been so happy ever since I got back to Carrington and I just can't wait to play again.

"I'm feeling good. I've been training for two weeks and I'm very happy. I think maybe very soon I'll come back again and start playing normally with the rest of the team.

"I have had no problems at all with the injury. I'm just running and training now really hard."

Anderson earned rave reviews for his performances after joining United from Porto in 2007, but was in and out of the team last season and had not played for a month before his fateful appearance against West Ham.

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted Brazilian midfielder Anderson was talking about quitting Manchester United last season.

The 22-year-old endured a difficult campaign, scarred by poor form, and was tipped in some quarters to be eased out of Old Trafford during the January transfer window.

In the end, he stayed where he was, only to suffer a cruciate knee ligament injury during a Premier League win over West Ham in February.

Happily, Anderson is now on the road to recovery and began training on Thursday.

It means a return to duty is not far away, with Ferguson hoping the break has allowed the midfielder to re-assess his future.

"Anderson has an incredible talent," said Ferguson.

"He loves training and playing. He wants to play every game and train every day.

"But that is a problem for me because at 22 he has not got the maturity to understand we operate a squad here.

"When he does understand that, he will be a fantastic player here but last season he was talking about leaving because he was not playing in every game."

Rather than put his arm around the player's shoulder, Ferguson opted to stand well back from someone who first made his mark with FC Porto in the hope that common sense would eventually prevail.

In that sense, Anderson's extended break came at a good time, with Ferguson now believing the player can fulfil his massive potential.

"Maybe it is a good thing he has been injured for a spell because he can look at the situation," said Ferguson.

"In some ways, I don't want to change his mentality because it is wonderful to see someone who wants to play every minute of every day.

"If you have someone with that enthusiasm, you have to be careful you don't check it to the point when you lose it.

"I didn't talk to him about leaving. I just let him get it out of his system.

"Maybe the injury has quelled the storm in his body because he came back here with the same enthusiasm and has been telling me he is ready to play.

"Everyone has seen the quality in his game and he will get his opportunity."

Ferguson insists the car crash Anderson was involved in on a visit back to Portugal was not as serious as early reports suggested, although clearly Sunday's Premier League trip to Fulham comes far too early for him to have any involvement.

MANCHESTER, KOMPAS.com — Pelatih Manchester United Alex Ferguson mengungkapkan, ada baiknya Anderson mengalami cedera karena itu membuatnya semakin matang dalam melihat kemampuan diri dan kebutuhan tim.

MANCHESTER, KOMPAS.com - Gelandang Manchester United, Anderson, membantah pemberitaan yang menyebut dirinya akan hengkang dari Old Trafford untuk kembali membela FC Porto. Namun, Anderson tak menampik bahwa dirinya akan menghabiskan kariernya di Porto.

"Setan Merah" membeli Anderson 17 juta poundsterling (sekitar Rp 242,6 miliar) dari Porto pada tiga tahun silam. Dua musim sejak kedatangannya, Anderson sering dimainkan.

Nani is backing his friend and team-mate Anderson to follow in his footsteps and establish himself as an important and regular performer in United's first-team.

Both players arrived from Portuguese Liga in 2007 with vast promise to be top players for the Reds.

After showing sometimes sporadic flashes of his undoubted talent, Nani has fully realised his promise and become a key figure at Old Trafford. Now he's backing Anderson to do the same.

"Everyone knows the quality that Anderson has," Nani told ManUtd.com. "He was unlucky with the knee injury that he suffered because he was just starting to play well and show us what we know he can do."

Anderson suffered cruciate knee ligament damage against West Ham in February earlier this year. He's since returned to action and shown he's back on track to be a key man for the Reds. But there's plenty more to come from him, according to Nani.

"We all know here that he is an amazing player," he says. "He is strong, he is a very clever player too and he can be a very important player in this team.

Anderson's long-awaited return to form could not have come at a better time.

The boy from Brazil, who first illuminated Old Trafford, and then infuriated it, is finally beginning to look at home in the centre of United’s midfield.

His goal on Tuesday – only his second in 109 appearances since his £18m move from Porto three years ago – ensured top spot in Champions Group C, and the side-stepping of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the next round.

A week earlier he was the only player to avoid the hair-dryer treatment from Sir Alex Ferguson following the Carling Cup mauling at West Ham.

And on Monday he will be charged with the responsibility of curtailing Samir Nasri and Jack Wilshere in the title showdown with Arsenal.

With Paul Scholes struggling to overcome a groin injury in time for next Monday’s clash, Anderson is set to continue in the heart of midfield in place of a player Ferguson tipped him to one day succeed.

Scholes hasn’t played since the 1-0 win against Rangers last month and Ferguson says he is facing a fight to be back in time for the visit of Arsene Wenger’s Premier League leaders.

“Paul tried training on Sunday and came off,” he said. “He will be doubtful for Monday.”

Finding the next Scholes has been top of the United manager’s priority list for the last three years.

But he was convinced he’d done just that when plucking Anderson from obscurity in 2007.

Then aged 19, Ferguson was urged by his scouts to buy, buy, buy, such was his potential.

Described as anything from the next Ronaldinho to a future world footballer of the year, United pounced, even though he had only just recovered from a career-threatening leg break.

“The reports we were getting were saying that he was the best young player in the world,” said Ferguson. “At the time, I was saying, 'For God's sake, let's calm down a bit here.' I knew he had real potential, but I didn't want to put labels on him like that.”

But after a hugely impressive first season, Ferguson had no qualms hailing Anderson a player capable of following in United’s rich heritage of world class midfielders in the traditions of Bryan Robson, Roy Keane and Scholes.

Such comparisons looked fanciful as Anderson’s star dipped to the point over the next two seasons that he was on the verge of a move to Lyon last January.

A cruciate ligament injury in February, ruling him out for the rest of the season, followed by a car crash in Portugal over the summer, only added to his torment and the sense that his United career would soon be brought to an end.

But his return to form in recent weeks – culminating with his crucial strike against Valencia – has been a pointer to the talent that convinced Ferguson to lavish such praise on him in his early career.

Now he wants to see the 22-year-old produce those kind of performances on a regular basis and follow in the footsteps of Nani, who has turned his career around after coming so close to the exit.

“Anderson has been absolutely brilliant in the last three games,” said Ferguson. “He has been tremendous. He offers something different from the other midfield players we have got.

“He has tremendous pace, can beat a man and is always decisive in his passing.”

The visit of Arsenal is fitting given that it was against such opposition that Anderson first ingratiated himself with United supporters.

His dominant displays against Cesc Fabregas and Steven Gerrard in his first season in England made him a cult hero on the terraces.

And how he performs against Wenger’s side on Monday will be a good barometer as to his progress this season.

With Ferguson considering moves for midfielders, Jordan Henderson and Bastian Schweinsteiger, Anderson is running out of time to convince his manager that he can be long-term answer in the centre of the park.

But if he is to truly prove he can be the successor to Scholes, he must start to match the veteran’s goal ratio.
Anderson’s most un-Brazilian-like finishing has become an on-going joke at Old Trafford – but it is far from laughable.

Though scoring on Tuesday, he missed another glorious chance in the first half that was typical of his form in front of goal since heading to these shores.

His only other United goal came against Tottenham at the beginning of last season. Ferguson is adamant he needs to be ruthless in front of goal and hopes the Valencia strike will be the turning point.

“He should score more,” he said. “The boy has terrific talent. He has great pace and power. He is a strong boy.

“We are pleased he got a goal. It may help him.”

Former Premier League star Jamie Redknapp has praised the recent performances of Manchester United midfielder Anderson, suggesting the penny may have finally dropped for the young Brazilian.

Redknapp has seen great improvements in the 22-year-old’s game in the last few games, most recently against Arsenal last night, and the Sky Sports pundit claims the former FC Porto prodigy has all the tools to be a superb player for Sir Alex Ferguson if he continues to apply himself.

Anderson arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2007 with a big reputation and a lofty price-tag but injuries and an alleged poor attitude have seemingly curtailed his undoubted promise, yet Redknapp suggests the dynamic playmaker looks ready to finally deliver consistently for the Red Devils.

Redknapp told the Daily Mail: “I would not have enjoyed playing against Anderson. He is an explosive player who runs away from his marker.

“I picked him out as one to watch when he first came over here, but he hasn't shown his best form consistently.

Semoga kedepannya Anderson diberikan lebih banyak kesempatan oleh Sir Alex Ferguson untuk tampil di tim utama Manchester United. Sebenarnya kemampuannya cukup bagus sih tapi sayangnya kadang terlalu terburu-buru dalam penyelesaian akhir. Selain itu saya juga berharap bisa melihat aksinya saat membela timnas Brazil.

Btw, Sir Alex kok tidak mempermasalahkan model rambutnya yach ? Menurut saya jika rambut Anderson dipotong cepak seperti Bebe mungkin tampak lebih keren dan bisa jadi mungkin malah membawa hoki keberuntungan , hehehe ...

Sir Alex Ferguson has challenged Anderson to add goals to his game after penning a new Manchester United contract.

The Brazilian midfielder has enjoyed much improved form this season and was rewarded with a four-and-a-half-year contract with the club.

However his manager is keen to see the player add goals to his strong performances, after delivering a paltry two competitive strikes since joining the club in 2007.

Anderson had looked almost certain to be leaving the club 12 months earlier, but along with team-mate Nani, his performances have been a high point of United's season.

"Anderson could be a top player," Ferguson told the club's official site.

"He is strong, he can beat a man and has great acceleration from a standing position. He is electric in that sense.

"The area he has to improve is goalscoring. He recognises that and all the players tell him. That is his weakness, he doesn't score enough goals.

"But he is still only 22. He is an emerging player and hopefully in three or four years' time we will be looking back and saying he has given us goals because he has the ability to do it."

Anderson will no doubt be a key figure over the festive period following the news of Paul Scholes' enforced absence with a groin injury.

With a crucial game against Chelsea looming, both teams have seen a turnaround in form since the beginning of the season.

The defending champions find themselves in fourth spot, yet Ferguson is under no illusions that despite their current form, the Blues are as dangerous as ever.

"We all have these spells," Ferguson said.

"We had it early on. We were the ones giving points away.

"We analysed how and why we dropped points and I am sure Carlo will be doing the same."

Steve Bruce’s team completely dominated the game and should have won comfortably; United looked not like a team in transition but one in decline. And that was before Wayne Rooney decide to conduct his public contract negotiation.

Yet here they are, with two points and a game in hand on second-placed Arsenal, and showing signs of finding form. Rooney is slowly starting to resemble the player who scored 19 goals in the first three months of last season and, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s teams traditional strong into Easter, the team are still unbeaten.

“We stole a point against Sunderland but we didn’t really deserve anything,” Ferguson conceded. “We’re unbeaten but we’ve had a few draws. It won’t last forever but hopefully it will come when we’re top of the league, end of the season, and five points clear.

"What you try and do is take something from every game. Sometimes you can have a good performance and lose and you can’t say much to them in those circumstances. But we try to take something from the game, whether it’s a point or a good performance.”

That mental obduracy comes from Ferguson himself who has fostered a self-perpetuating aura of invincibility at the club. Ferguson teams don’t know they’re beaten. When United have looked there for the taking in games this season, against Aston Villa and Sunderland, their intimidating history has often been their most valuable asset.

While Rooney has been first distracted and then injured and Dimitar Berbatov sporadic, Ferguson has relied on less central figures to make key contributions. Nani and Nemanja Vidic may have been United’s most consistently impressive performers but it has been the run of goalscoring form from Park Ji-sung, followed by a surprisingly impressive return to the side for Anderson that has kept United’s momentum going.

Anderson’s taking of the baton is timely. Park is a player Ferguson trusts to do various tactical jobs, especially in the Champions League but it has been his goalscoring — he has six so far this season — that has been crucial in the last couple of months. His two goals did for a spirited Wolves and his clever header was the difference against Arsenal.

Boxing Day is his last game before he leaves for the Asian Cup, which could mean missing as many as seven games, depending on how successful South Korea are in Qatar. Not quite the same as Chelsea losing Michael Essien and Didier Drogba to the Cup of African Nations, but a blow to United nonetheless.

Anderson’s renaissance could not be more welcome, then, as Ferguson needs a midfielder who can run between the lines of opposition midfield and defence, a role that Park had been playing so well.

Many at Old Trafford had given up on Anderson. He had lost the spark that had made him such a promising player at Porto and his attitude seemed to have gone with it. Having suffered a knee ligament injury it was thought he would have to leave to revive his career.

Then he came back into the team in the 7-1 thrashing of Blackburn and his refreshed form has been rewarded with a new contract.

“He’s definitely top drawer,” Ferguson said. “He’s getting his fitness now. Even before he came to us he had a bad injury – a broken leg – and it takes players a long time to get over that type of injury.

Now he’s had a cruciate and he’s now got over that. We just touch wood he won’t have any more serious injuries, because he’s only 22. But ability wise he’s an excellent footballer. He’s training great and I’m confident we can get consistent performances now. We still have to do work strengthening his quadriceps because he’s weak in one leg but in general he’s a strong boy, fantastically strong.”

Anderson would have missed the game with Chelsea last weekend had it not been postponed, one of the victims of a virus going round United’s Carrington training ground (not for the first time this season).

Vidic is another who has recovered from the illness. It is good news for Ferguson who thinks that the “toughest” Premier League he has known, in terms of internal competitiveness, is waiting for a team to take it by the scruff of the neck.

“If someone had the balls to do it,” he said. “If somebody went on about 10 games in a row winning at the top of the league, they’d win the league. We’ve done it in the past. We hope that we’ve cut out the stupid mistakes we were making early season.

"A lot of people said we weren’t at top form but we’d had some good performances, but not in a consistent nature. I still think our performance at Everton was as good as we’ve had in the last few years. We could have been six up.

But that was interspersed with some ordinary football, like away at Sunderland.”

Anderson has proved capable of realising his incredible potential in the last month - now his team-mate Patrice Evra says he must maintain his brilliance year after year, not just week after week.
United's Brazilian no.8 arrived at Old Trafford in 2007 from Portugal alongside Nani with plenty of hype about his future. He caused a stir in his first season but, much like Nani, didn't always produce consistently. That was undoubtedly due to a combination of youth and injuries, but now - and he's still only 22 - he's proving what a talent he is.

"Ando is doing brilliant," Evra told MUTV. But the Frenchman isn't getting too carried away: "The most important thing is not three or four games, you need to play like this every year.

"He has a big talent, it's three years now he's played for United and the club has shown the confidence they have in him with a new contract, and he needs to show on the pitch that he deserves that.

"He put in a fantastic performance [against Sunderland], but I'm not surprised about Anderson. I always believed in him and I hope now he will keep having that type of game every game."

Anderson's displeasure at being substituted against the Black Cats highlights just how much he is enjoying his football. And as the reason behind hauling him off after 64 minutes shows, he has a manager able to get the best out of him.

Seluruh punggawa United sangat senang dengan penampilan pemain yang baru mendapatkan perpanjangan kontrak itu, salah satunya Evra yang mengharapkan Anderson bisa mempertahankan penampilan hingga beberapa tahun mendatang.

MANCHESTER - Sir Alex Ferguson bukan sosok yang ramah bagi Anderson. Tapi belakangan gelandang Brasil ini memahami sikap itu justru bermanfaat bagi kariernya di Liga Inggris.

Anderson menilai manajemen Ferguson kerap terkesan kasar. Ferguson tidak segan-segan menegurnya ketika tampil buruk seperti di musim lalu di mana Anderson sempat dirundung cedera dan permasalahan kedisiplinan.

“Sir Alex selalu memberi saya nasihat sejak hari pertama saya tiba di sini, baik itu di dalam momen yang baik atau pun buruk,” ujar Anderson, Selasa (4/1/2011).

Anderson tiba di Old Trafford dari FC Porto pada 2007.Selama kariernya bersama Setan Merah, Anderson justru paling banyak diturunkan pada musim pertamanya 2007-2008, 34 kali tampil. Di musim berikutnya dia tampil 17 kali dan 14 kali di musim lalu. Untuk musim ini, Anderson merumput sebanyak 8 kali dari 20 penampilan Setan Merah.

“Dia sering tidak puas dengan penampilan saya, tapi itu justru menjadi insentif ekstra buat saya.Pelatih ingin melihat reaksi saya. Itu tidak negatif, dan hubungan saya dengan dia sangat bagus.”

Setelah persoalan cedera Anderson bekerja keras untuk mengembalikan kepercayaan Ferguson sehingga memiliki kesempatan lebih besar bersama tim.

“Sir Alex memberi saya kepercayaan diri dan membantu saya meningkatkan performa. Bagi saya dia pelatih terbaik di dunia karena dia orang yang blak-blakan dan kami bisa memahami apa yang ingin kami lakukan untuknya,” tutup pemain 22 tahun ini. (fit)

Having come into his own this season, Anderson has outlined his intentions to stay at Manchester United for as long as possible.

Anderson’s time at the club has been one of ups and downs and he was linked with a move away from the club last January after apparently going AWOL and last summer whilst injured he was involved in a car crash that further lead people to believe his time was up at Old Trafford but Anderson has knuckled down and the team has benefited and now he plans to emulate legends like of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes:

“I want to make history here, I look at players like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes and I want to do what they have done.”

Always positive to hear players say these kinds of things but he has a long way to match either, lagging behind on 116 appearances compared to Giggs’ 857 and Scholes’ 659.

Whilst he intends on staying at United for as long as possible he has revealed Brazil remains in his heart and he does intend to see out his final days at his first club Gremio,

“I want to remain here until just before the end of my career. Then I hope to return to Brazil and finish my career with Gremio.”

Have you been pleased with your own form?
Yeah, I’m very happy. Recently I went on a good run and played seven games in a row before I was rested. My knee still isn’t 100 per cent, so I have to make sure I don’t overdo things. But that run in the team really helped me. I feel confident again. I’m playing well and I think next season I’ll be even better.

What is it that’s giving you such confidence?
I’m feeling good and I think my form will continue. I plan to work really hard in the summer. I feel like I haven’t had a good pre-season for a few years, so I’m looking forward to that. If I can get good preparation, I’m confident next year will be my best yet.

Fitness is obviously very important to English football…
Of course it’s a priority, but I think it’s more important to make the ball do the work. You don’t need to run all over the pitch – it’s much better to pass the ball well from one point to another. It can move faster than you can, so you should keep football simple and pass the ball as much as possible. In England, sometimes people think you aren’t very good if you don’t run around a lot. But I think that’s one of the reasons why England don’t do very well at the World Cup finals – they run about too much!

How pleased were you to sign a new contract in December, keeping you at United until 2015?
I was very happy because this club is the best place to be for a young player. I’ve won the Champions League, I’ve won the Premier League, but I want to win them again. I want to help make history here. I look at players like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes and I want to do what they’ve done. I also want to thank the boss for having faith in me, and giving me this opportunity to stay for five years. I want to remain until just before I retire, when I hope to return to Brazil and finish my career at Gremio. That would be the perfect ending for me.

Some critics claim the standard of football in England is dropping…
I don’t agree. It’s true that every year Manchester United finish on top of the table or near the top – that’s not about to change. But clubs like Tottenham, Birmingham and Bolton are getting much better. A few years ago, we’d go to Bolton and everybody would expect us to win 4-0. Now it’s much tougher and you have to work harder to win matches. A lot of people hold up Spanish football as an example. Sure, Barcelona may win 7-0 every week, but they’re not going to places like Birmingham, Bolton or Fulham. You can’t compare the two leagues: for me, English football is the best in the world.

Should United be considered favourites for the title?
Definitely. We’re all happy with how things are going. United are top of the league and we have games in hand… we’re in an amazing position. We’re definitely capable of winning the title. I know we haven’t always played well, but if we perform badly and still win the game then that’s a good three points as far as I’m concerned. It’s nice to play attractive football, but it’s even better to win games.

We understand you helped Bebe settle into the English way of life… Yeah, he stayed with me for two months. I can tell you, he eats a lot. He ate all my food! [laughs] He was a good guest, though. He’s a nice guy and funny. When I came to England, Cristiano Ronaldo helped me adjust, so I wanted to do the same with Bebe.

Another Portuguese speaker, Rafael, is suspended at the moment. How big a blow is that?
It’s a huge loss. Rafael is a big player. Not just him, but his brother Fabio, too. It’s not easy to leave Brazil as a young player, but they’ve done really well since arriving in England. In two years, Rafael will be the best right-back in the world. Mark my words.

Manchester United midfielder Anderson has scoffed at Nani’s alleged ability to play the piano by claiming the Portuguese ace is “hopeless”.

The former Sporting Lisbon prodigy, who has been one of the Premier League leader’s best players thus far this season, had been credited as being a talented pianist, yet Anderson has suggested very much to the contrary when pressed on whether or not he had any hidden talents of his own.

When asked if he had any hobbies outside of football, like his teammates Nani (playing the piano) and Dimitar Berbatov (drawing), Anderson told Manchester United’s official website: “Let me tell you that Nani isn’t very good on the piano. He’s hopeless!

“I didn’t know about Berba’s drawing… My talents? I’m good at video games. Does that count?

Anderson explained: “It’s important to relax, so I spend a lot of time on my PlayStation. I play mainly football games, but I like shooting ones, too.

“I also play cards, watch films and spend time with my friends.”

Brazilian beaches are best, without a doubt. They’re so beautiful. I haven’t tried an English beach… it’s too cold to swim here.

We can’t help but notice your tattoos. Can you tell us about them?
The one on my right arm is all the places I’ve been to in the world. It’s not finished. The one on my left arm… oh, that was from when I was a stupid boy. I don’t know why I got that. I also have two small ones – on my wrist and my neck – dedicated to my mother and grandma.

What’s your favourite Manchester restaurant?
My house! I have amazing food at home. There’s also a nice place called Osteria. They do great Brazilian dishes – it’s not 100 per cent authentic, but it’s very close.

Your braids are part of your look, but would you ever consider cutting all your hair off?
No chance! Are you joking? My hair is my life, it’s so important to me. If you cut off my hair it’s like cutting out my heart or cutting off my legs. I’d cry for days and days. It’s been like this since I was 16.

1. Ronaldo (1994-2006 - 97 caps/62 goals)
It’s no surprise Ando chooses this recently retired Brazilian legend, who won two World Cups, two European Footballer of the Year awards, three World Player of the Year honours and scored hundreds of goals. Anderson suffered a knee injury against Crawley Town in The FA Cup in February, keeping him out-of-action for the past two months. At first, it was though the 22-year-old would miss the rest of the season for United - but his return to Reserve action on Thursday night has put to bed any lingering doubts over his short-term future. Sir Alex Ferguson will have him available on both Saturday against Fulham, and on Tuesday against Chelsea.

United's Reserves made Man City's 'Elite Development Squad' look anything but 'elite', beating the young noisy neighbours in the Red side of Manchester - at Moss Lane - on front of nearly 1,000 onlookers. Gabby Obertan broke the deadlock on 29 minutes, before City pounced through Abdisalam Ibrahim just one minute later.

The Manchester United midfielder Anderson has a story about the beginnings of his professional career that tells you everything you need to know about why this talented Brazil international believes that he will be a success in England.

It begins in the canteen that served the youth-team players at his first club Gremio in his hometown of Porto Alegre in southern Brazil. Anderson was approached by the first-team manager who demanded to know why he had two mobile phones on that table in front of him. "I said 'Why do you want to know? I'm the one who pays the bills'," Anderson recalls. "He was surprised with my reaction because I was very young. He asked me if I played as much as I spoke. I said: 'I'm better than some of the players you have in your team'."

The Gremio manager was intrigued and rang the former Brazil international Branco, then in charge of the junior national teams, for a reference. "Apparently Branco said about me, 'He's a very good player but he's a bit crazy'," Anderson says. "We had a derby coming up against Internacional. It's like United v City. The Gremio manager told me to go to the hotel and join the first team. I had never even trained with them. I played and scored a goal. We lost 2-1. I was 15 years old."

It is the last detail that stops you in your tracks. Since coming from Porto in 2007 for £18m Anderson has had some ups and downs at United – a point he illustrates with a roller-coaster motion of his arm during the course of our interview – but he is still only 23. There is, Anderson says, still a lot to come.

Tomorrow he faces Arsenal, against whom he had one of the best performances of his United career in the 2009 Champions League semi-final first leg, in yet another pivotal game at the end of the season. For Anderson, the prospect of a glittering end to the season is nothing new: in his four years at the club he has already featured in two Champions League finals and won two Premier League medals.

You might think that you know Anderson: a stroppy expression made worse by a general aversion to being substituted but the character who presented himself at United's training ground yesterday was very different. He has that well-disposed Brazilian attitude to life, was delighted at the rare Mancunian sunshine and joked that he could not possibly have his photograph taken with his hair out of the usual plaits.

It was his performances against Arsenal that inspired the song Old Trafford sings about Anderson – unrepeatable in full – which compares him favourably to Cesc Fabregas. Given how Arsenal's season has tailed off as United have gotten stronger, does he agree with the view that the general lack of experience in Arsène Wenger's team has proved their undoing?

Anderson admits he longs to return to Portugal

Manchester United midfielder Anderson admits he longs for a return to Portugal – although he is happy at Old Trafford for now.

The Brazilian left Portuguese club Porto to join United in 2007 and he has begun this season in flying form.

Anderson’s career at United has been hit and miss during his four years at the club but the signs are that he is finally beginning to live up to his early promise.

He signed a new deal until 2015 in December last year, but the 23-year-old says he cannot rule out a return to Portugal.

“Do I have a longing for Portugal? Yes, but I have been at Manchester United for four years and have another four years,” Anderson said in the Portuguese media.

Sir Alex Ferguson tells the story of the first time he saw Phil Jones play football and the rare exhilaration of knowing he was witnessing something special. "He was 16," Ferguson recalls. "He was playing against our youth team and he was immense. The next day I phoned Sam Allardyce, who was Blackburn's manager at the time, and he just laughed at me. 'Aye,' he said, 'that boy will be in my first-team on Saturday.'"

The feeling Ferguson experienced that day was reminiscent of the first time he clapped eyes on a 13-year-old Ryan Wilson (later Giggs) with the ball at his feet and a stream of opponents in pursuit, a moment of euphoria the Manchester United manager once likened to a gold prospector who has panned through every river and mountain suddenly finding himself staring at a nugget.

Back in 2007 United went to Anfield and it was another 19-year-old, Anderson, who delivered the kind of performance that, for Ferguson, represented one of those moments when all the sweat and frustration and hardships of management felt worthwhile. Anderson did something that day that has rarely been achieved at the home of Liverpool: he dominated Steven Gerrard on his own patch. The first 50-50 set the tone. Anderson snapped into Gerrard's ankles and came away with the ball. The second time it happened, Gerrard fixed him with a stare. It was a look that said: "And you are?"

What has happened to Anderson over the following years demonstrates how quickly a young player's priorities can blur and why some of the greatest qualities a manager can possess are patience and tolerance. Fortunately for the Brazilian, Ferguson has equal measures of both. But it has been a close-run thing at times and in the worst moments, it was difficult to envisage the situation we have seen this week, of Anderson being deemed so important for a weekend fixture the manager rested him from a Champions League tie.

Anderson was held back for Sunday's game against Chelsea on the basis that his contribution to United's winning start has been so purposeful and significant. He has been the driving force in the team's midfield during a free-scoring run that has seen them accumulate 18 goals from four league games and while the season is still in its infancy, his hard running, penetrative passing and newly acquired maturity have left us with the sense that this is the juncture when he re-establishes himself as a serious footballer.

Anderson has been in Manchester four years now, so it is not before time. He has won three Premier League medals, two League Cups and helped the team reach three Champions League finals – and yet the paradox is that he has done all this without shaking the firm impression that this is someone who ought to have delivered more.

Consider, for example, those Champions League finals. Anderson was a substitute against Chelsea in 2008, replacing Wes Brown in the final seconds of extra time, purely so he could take part in the penalty shoot-out. He was removed at half-time after an undistinguished performance the following year against Barcelona, and did not get off the bench against the same opponents at Wembley in May.

Gary Neville's autobiography came out this month and the Brazilian does not merit a single mention. Three hundred pages about the glories, the personalities and mechanics of being at a club of United's size and ambition – but not one word about a player who cost €30m (£26.2m in today's exchange rate) to become the fifth most expensive player in the club's history.

What we have now is a player who is slowly reminding us why Mário Zagallo, Brazil's World Cup-winning coach of 1970, once talked of him as a "prodigy with indisputable quality". That was in 2007 after Dunga had called Anderson into his Copa América squad, and Zagallo's belief was that "everything suggests he is going to be a superstar".

Since then, however, there have been only eight caps. According to the Globo TV commentator Jon Cotterill, the perception has developed in Brazil of a footballer who has abandoned the qualities that made him so revered in the first place. "Anderson started off as the new Ronaldinho but he's changed his style of play completely. He's learned to mark. He's bulked up. He's more direct. But he seems to have forgotten his talent and creative gifts."

For United, Anderson has averaged fewer than 20 league starts per season. At the lowest moments he responded to one blast of Ferguson's temper by flying back to Brazil without the club's permission, an indiscretion that cost him a week's wages. There were stories of him meeting officials from Grêmio, the club where he began his career. Anderson, for a time, looked as though he could leave and quickly be forgotten.

The coaches at Old Trafford talk now of someone who has knuckled down, lost weight and, at 23, is still young enough to consider the best years are yet to come, particularly if he continues to play the kind of mature, intelligent football that Paul Scholes felt was coming before the start of the season. "He can be a bit erratic at times, but you forget he's still a young lad," Scholes, now a member of Ferguson's backroom staff, said. "Hopefully, with a bit more concentration, he can score more goals as well."

The question of professionalism is relevant because Anderson has had his fair share of lost nights. Not in the places where Manchester's glitterati usually flaunt their wealth, but the kind of venues where the music is a bit louder, the drinks are cheap and the carpets sticky. There have been some embarrassing headlines and like many young, rich Brazilian footballers, the sense that partying should be a way of life, no matter what time training starts the following morning.

One theory at Old Trafford is that Anderson has benefited from having a steady girlfriend and a young family and, in turn, is gradually shedding his image as the party animal who, 13 months ago, ended up in hospital after leaving a Portuguese nightclub at 6am and crashing off the road. Anderson, dragged unconscious from his burning car, was recovering at the time from a ruptured cruciate ligament, the injury footballers fear the most. "Perhaps he needed that bang on the head," one United official volunteered.

The question now is the same one that hangs over Jones and it is this: can he keep it up? There have, after all, been other moments in the Anderson story when he has flirted with the idea of becoming an authentic category-A footballer before disappearing back to the edges. "His form so far this season has been brilliant," Ferguson says, "but we always knew he was capable of that."

The key is maintaining it. These are the moments when Anderson needs to show he has become a grown-up footballer rather than the boy who stayed too young too long. The new Anderson, rather than the new Ronaldinho.

Setelah Paul Scholes pensiun, Sir Alex Ferguson meminta Anderson untuk berperan lebih besar buat skuad "Setan Merah". Pesepakbola berusia 23 tahun ini siap membayar kepercayaan itu dengan penampilan yang bagus.

"Anda bisa mengatakan ini adalah start terbaikku karena aku belum pernah tampil lima atau enam kali berturut-turut di awal kompetisi. Ini bagus untuk tetap berada di tim dan membantu dengan kontribusi besar," imbuh pemain asal Brasil itu.

"Aku merasa ini waktuku. Aku telah berlatih dengan baik, menjaga diri sendiri dan bos telah memberikan kesempatan buatku. Ini penting bahwa aku mengambilnya dan memperlihatkan kepada semua orang kenapa aku berada disini," pungkas Anderson.

anak ini skillnya bagus benernya tapi masih rada suka hura2 dan pernah dapat isu dia berhubungan dengan geng di brazil sono, tapi akhir2 ini mulai rada dewasa meskipun wajah konyolnya masih sering nampak...good job ando, bawa kejayaan utk united...

Since Anderson Luis de Abreu Oliveira joined Manchester United from Porto back in 2007 the Old Trafford faithful have been split over the midfielder’s influence, importance and ability to be included in Sir Alex Ferguson’s first team. Gifted? Yes. Committed? One thinks so. Frustrating? Also at times yes.

However in the 2011-12 campaign thus-far, Anderson is starting to show why Ferguson splashed a reported £20 million on the South American four years ago, as the Brazil international seemingly has more of a positive impact on the Premier League champions’ fate. Manchester United stats show that the 23-year-old is starting to mature and play a more pivotal role at Old Trafford.

The United fans have missed the guile, creativity and goal-scoring prowess of the legendary and now retired Paul Scholes this term, but Anderson is starting to show that he could be the man to plug gap left by the former England international. Although there is only one Scholes to us United supporters, Anderson could well play an important role in the defence of the Premier League title this season.

United fans have been frustrated by the lack of goals Anderson contributes, and being honest it will take some doing for the eight-times capped Brazilian to equal Scholes’ eye for goal from the centre of the park. That said, Anderson has hit the back of the net twice this season and created one assist; more than any of his team-mates in the same position.

The average rating of 7.37 on painstakingly accurate statistics website WhoScored.com is second only to Wayne Rooney in the United squad, and considerably better than that of Giggs, Fletcher, Cleverley and Carrick.

A completed pass percentage of 85% shows that silly mistakes and the loss of concentration in Anderson’s game is hopefully being stamped out at Carrington, whilst the former Gremio man makes 1.8 key passes per game. The South American’s battling qualities have never been in question, and Anderson tops United’s defensive statistics. He has made an average of 2.6 tackles per game so far this campaign, more than any other player in The Red Devils’ squad, and 1.8 interceptions per game.

The Brazilian is maturing under Sir Alex’s tutelage and now should be considered an important man in the United squad, starting with the trip to Swansea this Saturday. Stats show that the Brazilian is increasing in stature, whilst others may not have the influence that their reputation may suggest.
