"Mame has been training really well," the Scot said. "We are very pleased about that.

"He can't play in the Leeds United game but hopefully we will get international clearance by the time we face Manchester City in the semi-final.

"I wouldn't have thought we will start him in that game though. It will be too early."

BOSS RELISHES LEEDS' RETURN

Sunday's FA Cup tie with Leeds will stir many memories for United fans, players and staff, it being almost six years since the old rivals last met in the top flight. Here's what Sir Alex Ferguson had to say about the fixture...

"I don’t need to spell out what Leeds games have meant to us over the years. I used to enjoy them - they were fantastic, feisty occasions every time we met and we always had to perform.

"There was a tinge of hostility but we would tell the players to behave themselves properly because we didn’t want to add to any (crowd) problems that might be occurring off the pitch.

"When we used to play Leeds in the league, the two teams were very competitive but it’s a different situation now, and we just have to make sure we play our normal game on Sunday.

"Leeds are bringing 9,000 fans, so it will be a brilliant atmosphere and should be a brilliant cup tie."

FA CUP CLASSIC: MANCHESTER UNITED 3-1 LEEDS UNITED, 1994/95

The Reds entered the last FA Cup clash with Leeds, on 19 February 1995, without the talismanic talents of Eric Cantona - suspension for that leap into the crowd at Crystal Palace prevented him from facing his former club.

But if the Leeds fans rubbed their hands in anticipation before kick-off, they were soon peering through their fingers in horror. Just 63 seconds in, Steve Bruce’s forehead smacked home Ryan Giggs’ wickedly whipped-in corner as the white-shirted defenders were caught ball-watching. Leeds were still reeling when Gary Pallister’s flick-on from another corner was met by Brian McClair's noggin.

Two-nil after five minutes - game over? You’d have put your hat on it. But, as is so often the case, a commanding lead can be an ephemeral thing, and Leeds halved the deficit eight minutes after the restart through new signing Tony Yeboah.

Thankfully, that brief bout of anxiety came to nothing, as Hughes restored the two-goal cushion on 72 minutes, heading home Andrei Kanchelskis’ cross with typically bullet-like force. Leeds, ragged and shapeless, had keeper John Lukic to thank for giving the scoreline a respectable sheen the respective displays barely warranted.

United: Schmeichel; Irwin, Bruce, Pallister, Sharpe; Kanchelskis, Ince, Keane, Giggs; McClair, Hughes. Subs: Walsh, Butt, Scholes.

BOSS - KEEP THE RIVALRY RESPECTFUL
-leedsunited.com-

http://www.leedsunited.com/javaImages/a2/ed/0,,10273~7531938,00.jpg

United manager relishing Roses clash..

Simon Grayson is calling on the fans of both Leeds United and Manchester United to keep the rivalry respectful when the two sides go head to head at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The two clubs are set to meet for the first time in almost six years and the FA Cup pairing has re-kindled memories of a true footballing rivalry between two of the games biggest clubs.

United will be backed by almost 9,000 fans while the game has been equally anticipated across the Pennines by Man United fans looking forward to the prospect of an atmospheric clash at Old Trafford.

"It's a game I think everyone is looking forward to," said the Leeds boss.

"We sold 9,000 tickets and could have taken 20,000 and from what I heard at Old Trafford on Wednesday their fans are equally looking forward to the game.

"It's a great rivalry that dats back through the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s when the two teams were competing with each other on a regular basis. The fact that this is the first time we have met in over five years probably makes it more appealing to supporters.

"There is a rivalry, and hopefully the banter is to do with football related incidents at this moment in time and nothing is brought up about the past from both sets of supporters.

"There's been major incidents that have affected both clubs over the years, but hopefully people will concentrate on the present and not what's happened in the past."

The boss also believes that the game is a clash between two of the biggest clubs in English football, despite the fact that United are currently two divisions below the Reds.

"It's two massive clubs without a doubt," he insisted.

"You only have to look at our fans, who are amazing. Like Man U, we have a worldwide fanbase.

"Our fans have been superb because they have had a lot thrown at them over the past few years or so, but they still sell out every allocation and travel in their 1000s.

"Sunday is a day for them and I hope they enjoy it and are proud."

Ferguson eager to renew "feisty" Leeds rivalry
-uk.eurosport.yahoo.com-

http://d.yimg.com/i/ng/sp/reuters/20091231/16/2792235244-manchester-united-coach-ferguson-speaks.jpg

Manchester United and Leeds United will rekindle one of the fiercest rivalries in English soccer after a five-year hiatus on Sunday and Alex Ferguson is anticipating the FA Cup clash as eagerly as anyone.

United manager Ferguson, celebrating his 68th birthday on Thursday, said he expected the third round tie at Old Trafford to bring back stirring memories of matches against Leeds, who were relegated from the Premier League in 2004.

"Over the years they have always been fantastic, feisty occasions every time we met," he said at a news conference. "We used to have some great games at Leeds because the atmosphere was always electric and our record was pretty good there.

"There was always a tinge of hostility. I always said to the players, make sure you behave yourselves properly on the pitch because we don't need to add to the problems off the pitch, the way that hostility always seemed to hover around the game.

"They are bringing 9,000 fans so it is going to be a busy day for the police. But it will be a fantastic atmosphere, absolutely brilliant, it should be a good cup tie."

United and Leeds not only enjoyed a fierce rivalry in league matches over the years but their FA Cup semi-final battles in 1965 and 1970 are remembered as being among the most gruelling battles seen in the competition's long history.

GLORY DAYS

Leeds won both ties after replays, but unlike Manchester United, who have won the FA Cup a record 11 times compared to the solitary Leeds success in 1972, the glory days of the West Yorkshire club are long behind them.

At least the club are now seemingly set on the path back to regaining their former status with promotion to the Championship (second division) looking likely at the end of this season.

Ferguson said he thought current manager Simon Grayson would soon return Leeds to the highest level of the English game.

"With the position they are in their league, they look absolutely certain to be in the Championship next year and, with the motivation and drive coming from the manager, I think they've got a great chance to be in the Premier League the next couple of years," Ferguson predicted.

Police are taking every precaution to ensure the match goes ahead without trouble.

Superintendent John Graves, Greater Manchester Police's Match Commander, told a news conference on Thursday: "There are a lot of similarities between the two clubs. Both clubs have got great support and there's a lot of pride and passion and both clubs have suffered loss and tragedy.

"We've categorised this as an increased risk match and a lot of that is just because of the sheer volume of fans and the time of year.

"It's the last holiday day before people go back to work so it's the last opportunity to celebrate and we don't want anyone to spoil it or alcohol to be the cause of disorder."

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson warns his players against inciting Leeds fans

By Chris Wheeler
Last updated at 10:50 PM on 01st January 2010

Sir Alex Ferguson will warn his Manchester United players to behave themselves against Leeds or risk sparking FA Cup chaos at Old Trafford tomorrow.

A potentially explosive third-round tie sees United face their old rivals for the first time in almost six years amid fears that a history of violence between the two sets of fans could lead to more trouble.

And Ferguson will remind his team of their responsibility not to fuel any crowd problems, saying: ‘I don’t have to spell out what Leeds have meant to Manchester United over the years.

‘It’s a fantastic, feisty occasion every time we have met. It always carried a degree of hostility which meant we had to tell the players to behave themselves on the pitch because there was no need to add to the problems off it.

'Leeds are bringing 8,000 fans and it is going to be a busy day for the police.’

The number of away fans heading across the Pennines is four times bigger than the last time Leeds played at Old Trafford in February 2004 when they were limited to just 1,900 tickets after the clubs took joint action to try to curb violence.

The generous allocation for tomorrow’s game has caused widespread surprise and concern but Leeds will follow police advice and make only 2,400 tickets available to United fans if there is a replay.

Greater Manchester Police will mount its biggest operation since 100,000 Rangers fans descended on the city for the UEFA Cup Final in 2008.

Although the match commander, Superintendent John Graves, has spoken ahead of the game to ease safety fears, it has been classed as high-risk Category C, with police expecting known hooligan groups from both clubs to be out in force.

A city centre operation is being launched in addition to the usual match-day policing around Old Trafford, and there will be a heavy presence from the specialist tactical aid squads.

Most bars and pubs in Manchester are expected to close, and police also hope the early 1pm kick-off will help. Ferguson will not underestimate a club he expects to be see back in the Premier League sooner rather than later, and has promised to put out a strong side against the League One leaders.

He added: ‘Simon Grayson has done a fantastic job. He is a Leeds boy himself, former player and some people have targets in life and I think he has reached his managing Leeds.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/01/01/article-0-032ADB84000005DC-104_468x357.jpg

‘He has instilled great motivation in his team and they’ve not let him down. ‘They look to be an absolute certainty for the Championship next year. The motivation that is coming from the manager means they have a great chance of being in the Premier League in the next couple of years.’

Grayson echoed the feelings among his club’s supporters, saying: ‘Personally, I can’t wait. This just takes us back to where this club was not so long ago, and could be again in the future.

‘Most of my players won’t have been to Old Trafford before, so the incentive for them to do well is huge. It will give them a taste of what playing in front of 70,000 is like, and will hopefully bring out the best in them.’

Leeds skipper Naylor: I want to face Man Utd striker Rooney
-tribalfootball.com-

http://images.teamtalk.com/09/09/330/Richard-Naylor-Leeds-United_2361765.jpg

Leeds United captain Richard Naylor has urged Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to select a full-strength line-up for tomorrow's FA Cup tie.

Naylor is keen to match himself against United star Wayne Rooney.

He said: “Rooney is the top striker in England at the moment, so it will be nice if he plays. You want to pit yourself against the best. You don’t want anyone to have any excuses, like Manchester United playing their reserves, so if we get a decent result I hope it is against their first choice eleven.”

Ferguson happy to renew rivalry with Leeds United
-soccernet.espn.go.com-

http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/JonMC/July2009/grayson-275.jpg

Sir Alex Ferguson misses Manchester United's annual showdowns with Leeds United and is happy to welcome them to Old Trafford after nearly six years of being parted. The Roses rivals lock horns in the FA Cup on Sunday, their first meeting since Leeds tumbled into the Championship.

With 9,000 fans travelling across the Pennines, the West Yorkshire outfit are guaranteed a noisy following that will further fuel an atmosphere Ferguson expects to be tinged with hostility.

It was always the same at Elland Road, a ground Ferguson once described as the most intimidating venue in Europe.

But those are the atmospheres the Scot loves the most.

"I used to enjoy the rivalry," he said. "It makes you perform. There have been some fantastically feisty occasions over the years and there was always a tinge of hostility.

"We always told the players to make sure they behaved properly on the pitch because we didn't need to add to the problems off it.

"Leeds are bringing 9,000 fans, so it will be a busy day for the police. But it will be an absolutely brilliant atmosphere and should be a good cup tie as well."

Ferguson has been impressed enough by the way Simon Grayson has changed Leeds' fortunes to feel it worth fielding a starting line-up similar to the one which demolished Wigan on Wednesday, even though United are facing an even more demanding Carling Cup semi-final at Manchester City next week.

Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes are amongst those expected to be involved, while Wayne Rooney will hope to continue his recent scoring streak, having taken his tally for the season to 15.

"We don't need to spell out what Sunday's game means to the Manchester United fans," admitted Ferguson. "Leeds are a decent side who will not be too far away from the Premier League in the next couple of years.

"When you look at the position they are in at the moment in League One, they look certain to be in the Championship next year. And with the motivation and drive that is coming from the manager, they have a great chance of going further.

"Simon Grayson is a local boy himself, as well being a former player. Some people have targets in life. He has reached his and his team are not letting him down."

Gary Neville and Paul Scholes look set to return as Manchester United host Leeds United at Old Trafford in the third round of the FA Cup.

Neville has overcome his groin injury and Scholes has recovered from a hip problem and the veteran duo willl give a significant boost to the United squad.

Nemanja Vidic and Wes Brown will carry on in the heart of the defence and striker Wayne Rooney will look to improve on his 15 goal start to the season.

Leeds are missing defender Leigh Bromby through suspension and on-loan Max Gradel because he is cup-tied.

Jason Crowe is the most likely replacement for Bromby but Bradley Johnson could move to right-back. The latter option would mean a return to thye starting eleven for Jonny Howson.

Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio are expected to form the Leeds strike partnership.

Manchester United (from): Kuszczak, Foster, Neville, Rafael, De Laet, Vidic, Brown, Evra, Fabio, Valencia, Park, Carrick, Fletcher, Scholes, Anderson, Gibson, Giggs, Obertan, Rooney, Berbatov, Owen, Welbeck, Tosic.

Roses rivals square up for first time since 2004...

Manchester United lock horns with Leeds United for the first time in almost six years in the FA Cup third round on Sunday. The two fierce rivals last met in February 2004, when a Leeds team at the dawn of their demise came away from Old Trafford with a 1-1 draw.

The Elland Road outfit were relegated from the Premier League that season and have been in freefall ever since. While Leeds fans were forced to watch their team tumble down the divisions, Sir Alex Ferguson's Red Devils went on to flourish both domestically and in Europe.

However, the current crop at Leeds have shown they are a side on the up. Simon Grayson's charges are currently enjoying a 15-game unbeaten streak and are eight points clear of second place Charlton Athletic in the race for promotion out of League One. The Yorkshire-based Whites also have a Football League Trophy Northern Area final to look forward to, aswell as Sunday's trip to the Theatre of Dreams.

After a slight wobble, Manchester United are once again firing on all cylindrers following Wednesday’s comprehensive victory over Wigan Athletic in the Premier League. The Reds trail Chelsea by just two points at the top of the table as we move into 2010.

While Leeds' boss Grayson will undoubtedly be focused on achieving promotion this season, there's no doubting his side will come out all guns blazing at Old Trafford as they attempt to pull off a remarkable scalp by progressing past the Premier League champions on their own patch.

TEAM NEWS

Manchester United

Ferguson should resist the temptation of playing a plethora of youngsters against a Leeds team who are currently 43 league places below the Reds.

Paul Scholes (hip) and Gary Neville (groin) are likely to return from injury, while Wayne Rooney will be desperate for the chance to improve on his already impressive strike rate of 15 goals.

Ben Foster may be given the chance to stake a claim for a regular spot in goal while Michael Owen will be pushing for a start alongside Rooney in attack.

Possible starting XI: Foster; Fabio, Vidic, Brown, Neville; Obertan, Scholes, Fletcher, Park; Rooney, Owen.

Leeds United

Leeds will definitely be without defender Leigh Bromby through suspension while Max Gradel (on-loan from Leicester City) is cup-tied.

Grayson is likely to re-call Jonathan Howson to the side having dropped him to the bench for the 4-2 league win over Stockport County.

Possible starting XI: Ankergren; Hughes, Kisnorbo, Naylor, Crowe; Doyle, Howson, Kilkenny, Snodgrass; Becchio, Beckford.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Manchester United - Gabriel Obertan

Despite having been limited to sporadic appearances so far this season, Manchester United's summer signing from Bordeaux has certainly not looked out of place when called upon. The tricky winger will be eager to get the nod against Leeds in an attempt to further showcase his potential to the Old Trafford faithful.

Leeds United - Jermaine Beckford

Beckford is one away from 20 goals already this season and has notched up a brace in each of his last two games. The Leeds forward will be keen to prove he is capable of playing at a much higher level than League One by showcasing his ability against the very best of Premier League opposition.

Sejarah Kobarkan Rivalitas MU-Leeds

http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2010/01/02/0727143p.jpg

LONDON, KOMPAS.com — Pertemuan Manchester United (MU) lawan Leeds United pada putaran ketiga Piala FA di Stadion Old Trafford, Minggu (3/1/2010), mengobarkan rivalitas lama. Hampir setiap dekade, mereka selalu bertarung sengit.

Kembali pada dekade 1960-an, rivalitas MU-Leeds mulai sengit. Bobby Charlton membela MU, Jack Charlton membela Leeds. Bintang lain, George Best dan Dennis Law di pihak MU, Billy Bremner dan John Giles di pihak Leeds. Pertemuan mereka selalu panas dan seru.

Sampai pada era 1990-an, kedua tim masih bersaing ketat.

"Saya tak perlu menyebutkan betapa pentingnya pertandingan lawan Leeds nanti. Saya biasanya menikmatinya.

Meski kalah kelas, Leeds memang tak mau kalah.

Pertemuan kedua tim biasanya dibumbui bentrok antar-suporter. (AP)

Ketika itu The Reds "hanya" menang 1-0.

Adanya "celah" di Old Trafford diakui Michael Carrick.

Obertan lumayan tapi kebanyakan atraksi begitu passing salah posisi...
Vale ama Giggsy bener2 mati kutu ga bisa berkreasi...
Berba seperti biasa kalo ga ada umpan mateng dia masih mentah...
Ando sama Gibson maen kaya orang bingung mo passing kemana...
Kuartet bek kelabakan begitu diserang balik, apalagi Brown kepancing emosi (untung ga kena kartu merah)...

ALHASIL... KEKALAHAN KETIGA DI OT MUSIM INI!!!!

TAPI GW MASIH STILL YAKIN, UNITED DAPET TREBLE (CARLING, EPL dan UCL)...

kenapa harus Leeds.............. :nohope:

semoga cuma feel gw aja yg lebay..hehehehe
