16. MICHAEL CARRICK

Birthdate: 28 Jul 1981
Birthplace: Wallsend, North Shields
Position: Midfielder
Appearances: 143
Goals: 12
Joined United: 31 Aug 2006
United Debut: 23 Aug 2006 v Charlton (A)
International: England

It’s amazing to think Michael Carrick had his detractors at the start of his United career, with some grumblings about his transfer fee - £14m rising to £18.6m with add-ons.

Even after his debut 2006/07 season, in which he carved out a formidable partnership with Paul Scholes as the Reds reclaimed the title, some people predicted he’d slip down the pecking order after the arrival of Owen Hargreaves. But not a bit of it. Carrick has become ever more important to United, maturing into one of English football's most sophisticated and classy passing midfielders.

The first of Carrick's two league titles with United to date was also the first major honour of his professional career, although he did win the FA Youth Cup with West Ham in 1999, scoring twice in the 9-0 final demolition of Coventry City.

West Ham loaned Carrick out to Swindon in 1999/2000 and then Birmingham in 2000/01 when he earned a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year, eventually won by Liverpool's Steven Gerrard.

Carrick spent much of the 2002/03 season sidelined with injury. West Ham were relegated at the end of it but rather than join Joe Cole, Fredi Kanoute and Jermain Defoe in an exodus, Carrick stayed for a season in the Championship. However, after losing the 2004 play-off final to Crystal Palace, Carrick decided he couldn't wait another year for a return to the Premier League and moved across London to join Tottenham in a transfer worth £2.75m.

He blossomed into an accomplished midfielder in two seasons at White Hart Lane. However, he only scored two goals in 64 games and it seemed this low strike-rate would continue at United, at least for the first few months.

Encouraged by Sir Alex Ferguson to push forward, Carrick eventually weighed in with six strikes from midfield in 2006/07. His first was a well-taken half-volley against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on 13 January 2007; his second, at home to Reading in the FA Cup, was shortlisted for the club's Goal of the Season award (won by Scholes away to Villa). His other goals included two in the 7-1 rout of Roma.

Carrick may have only scored three goals in 2007/08 but his all-round contribution to the cause could not be questioned as the Reds were crowned Champions of England and Europe. No wonder then that club and player agreed a new four-year deal in May 2008, to keep Carrick at United until June 2012.

Carrick ready to go again

Michael Carrick has never felt worse than he did after the defeat to Barcelona last May. Yet, as the midfield lynchpin told United Review, the Rome experience has merely made the players more determined to win further silverware....

How was your summer - did you completely switch off from football or spend time reflecting on last season?
I tried to switch off and relax, but it was quite hard after what happened in Rome. I’m still trying to get over losing the [Champions League] final, and I don’t think I will until I win it again. But when you look at the bigger picture, it was a successful campaign. We went to Japan and came back as world champions, won the Carling Cup and went on to win the league for a third time in a row, so we showed how good a team we are.

How does the squad’s mood compare to that of the last few pre-seasons?
It’s the same as always, we’re ready to go again. That’s the beauty of this club, despite all the success, every year you come back and want to achieve more. What’s happened has gone, now it’s about looking forward and trying to earn it all over again.

Have you sensed the team’s renewed determination after the Barça loss?
We’re just as determined as we always are. Winning in Moscow last year was amazing, and we were desperate to repeat that feat. We’ve experienced two very different nights in relatively quick succession, and we know which we like best. Losing like we did in Rome was hard to take, and no-one wants to experience that again. It’s certainly the worst I’ve ever felt after a match – it took about a week for any of my family to be able to talk to me properly. We’ve all learnt a lot from what happened and are determined to come back stronger this season.

There have been a few comings and goings over the summer - how do you assess the strength of the squad?
I don’t think it can be questioned. The gaffer has assembled a fantastic group, bringing in a great mixture of younger lads and experienced players, and the strength and depth here is second to none. Obviously losing Cristiano [Ronaldo] was disappointing because he’s been a huge player for us, but we’ve got a lot of top players here to deal with that and still be successful.

You recently celebrated your 28th birthday – do you feel you’re reaching your prime as a player?
I certainly feel great. Around your late 20s and early 30s is the time when players tend to peak – hopefully I can do that and keep it going as well!

Was last season your best in a United shirt, and perhaps your career?
Maybe, yes. It’s difficult to judge, though, because the season before we won the league and Champions League, and I played the same way. The longer you’re here and the more games you play, the more responsibility there is on your shoulders, and you have to step up to that. I want to keep working hard on every aspect of my game and become the best player I possibly can.

Finally, after football, what’s your favourite sport?
To play, I’d say golf, but to watch it has to be Formula 1. I’ve been lucky enough to go to a few Grand Prix meetings and chat to the drivers. I’ve met Mark Webber a few times, he really looked after me when I went to Monaco last year, and I watched this year’s British Grand Prix from inside the Red Bull team’s garage. They even gave me headphones so I could hear what the drivers [Sebastian Vettel and Webber] were saying to the team. They finished first and second respectively, so it was a great atmosphere.

Michael Carrick: Manchester United Expected A Tough Match Against Wolfsburg
The English midfielder responds to his critics with an improved performance...

http://i.media.goal.com/g/48756_news.jpg
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has insisted that his side were not surprised with the tough resistance put up by German champions Wolfsburg in their Champions League clash on Wednesday night.

United had to battle back from a goal down, but eventually ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Ryan Giggs and Carrick himself.

The England international had a point to prove after bearing the brunt of considerable criticism this season, having slipped behind Darren Fletcher and Paul Scholes in the pecking order after some sub-par displays.

"We expected a tough game. They [Wolfsburg have] got some really big threats going forward," Carrick told Sky Sports News.

"We were prepared for that and we knew the pitch with the weather it was going to be a quick game.

"We were conscious that we wanted to play well tonight and to build upon what we had in Turkey [against Besiktas]."

The victory means United remain top of their group after winning both their opening matches.

Carrick admitted to being relieved to getting on the scoresheet after missing an easier chance earlier when he was put through by Dimitar Berbatov.

"To get six points out of the two games, we're very happy with that. I thought first half we played some decent stuff at times," he said.

"We couldn't quite open them up. I had a decent chance. I'm glad I made amends for that.

"We had the opportunity. We had a good spell before they scored. They scored and thankfully we managed to step it up a gear."

Watch out! Michael Carrick fires warning to rivals as Manchester United target trophy crusade

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/10/01/article-1217370-06A63F31000005DC-931_468x253_popup.jpg

Manchester United possess the mental toughness to embark on yet another trophy crusade this season.

That is the view of Michael Carrick, who rammed home the winning goal in Wednesday's Champions League victory over Wolfsburg.

The 2-1 win over the Germans leaves United top of Group B, while the also lead the way in the Barclays Premier League.

There were huge doubts before the season started over the club's attempts to continue as a driving force in European football after the loss of star forwards Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.

But United have proven they are ready to mount another charge for glory - and Carrick puts that down to the desire of the United team, who bounced back from a goal down to beat Wolfsburg at Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson

'When we went a goal down we stepped up and still believed we could win the game,' said Carrick.

'There’s a lot of belief, confidence and trust in each other in our squad. And I think that’s shown this season through the amount of goals we’ve scored in the latter stages of matches.

'Fitness helps too, but the character and the mental strength we have certainly helps. It’s never ideal going a goal down but when it does happen we always believe we can bounce back.'

Carrick was the unlikely matchwinner against Wolfsburg with his late strike and he admitted he was relieved to seal the triumph.

'It’s always important to get off to a good start in your group,' he added. 'The win against Besiktas in Turkey two weeks ago was a big result – to win in that environment, away from home, was tough but we came through that test and tonight we’ve built on that momentum.

'Wolfsburg are a good side and their strikers caused us problems. But we knew what to expect and fair play to them – they came and played football and gave us a good game.
Enlarge Carrick

'I think we defended well and played some good football – sometimes luck just didn’t fall for us at tiems. But we’ve won the game and we’re happy with that.

'It was nice to score, too. I don’t get many goals so I guess I need to appreciate the ones I do get.'

Michael Carrick: I'm desperate to get my England chance. I know I will take it

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/10/03/article-1217975-052A799D000005DC-644_306x459.jpg

Michael Carrick does not fit the image of a tub-thumping patriot. You will not see him hollering out the national anthem like John Terry, or kissing the badge with gusto a la Frank Lampard.

But question his inner passion for his country and the normally passive features of the £18million midfielder begin to look quite hurt.

'I am desperate to play for my country, whether it be at Wembley or in World Cups. It is a huge honour,' he said, the voice unusually raised. 'Just because I don't go around shouting about it, and saying this and that. That's just not in my nature.'

Carrick is the consummate club professional. It is why Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson paid such a handsome sum of money to buy him from Spurs in 2006 when everyone else said he was overpriced.

In three seasons at Old Trafford, Carrick, 28, has helped United win three Premier League titles and reach two Champions League finals.

For once, though, it is England that is uppermost in his mind. This evening Fabio Capello names his squad for England's two remaining World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine, next Saturday, and Belarus four days later.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/10/03/article-1217975-049A0CA6000005DC-34_306x423.jpg

With England already qualified after eight successive victories in Group Six, it gives the Italian a rare licence to experiment, and Carrick is one of those eager to step in from the subs' bench where he has spent most of the qualifying campaign.

The Champions League winner against Wolfsburg he scored in front of Capello at Old Trafford on Wednesday night could not have harmed his prospects for being involved in Dnipr at the weekend.

'I'm hoping he [Capello] may make changes. I'd love to play and if I get my chance, I will take it,' said Carrick. 'It has been frustrating for me with England because I want to play all the time.

'I know first and foremost I have to perform well enough for United to warrant a place in the team. I have had to be patient but hopefully my chance will come along and I will be able to grab it.

'I'll be waiting like everyone else to hear what the squad is. I can't even look at that as a given. It will be a case of waiting for that text to come through to tell me I'm in.'
Michael Carrick

Passionate: Michael Carrick has proved his worth at club level, but playing for England is now uppermost in his mind

Carrick has a technical ability and range of passing that stands out among English midfielders.

There is an appreciation, too, for the ebb and flow of play which should be ideally suited to international football. Yet, for some reason, his England career has been very much stop-start.

He was still a teenager when Sven Goran Eriksson handed him his debut against Mexico in 2001.

But eight years later, he still only has 19 caps to his name, many of them as a substitute.

The last World Cup in Germany was a classic example of Carrick's fortunes.

He was named in the squad, sat out the group games, but then played from the start in the 1-0 victory against Ecuador in the first knockout round.

So what happened next?

He was dropped for the quarter-final against Portugal, which England lost on penalties.

Under Capello it has been a similar story. Carrick has won the Champions League while Gareth Barry has never played in it.

But it is Barry who the Italian has most frequently chosen to complement Steven Gerrard and Lampard.

Carrick's desire has been cited as a possible explanation but he insists: 'Nobody wants to play for England more than me. I dreamed of playing in the World Cup, same as any other kid. My passion when England comes around is as strong as it could be. I am desperate for that honour, and I am aware it is something you can't buy. I like the fact that you are always in the spotlight with England, just as you are at United. The expectations are at a level where you have to try and win every game. It makes you want to improve and results show that.'

Jamie Carragher caused a storm in his autobiography when he revealed that playing for Liverpool meant more to him than playing for England, and hinted that was the attitude of a lot of northern players.

Carrick declares: 'I can only speak for myself really. I love playing for England. Look around at the squad and everyone is enjoying it, it's a great place to be. I can only say for the lads that are there at the moment and have been playing of late, results speak for themselves.'

Quarterback Michael Carrick set to answer Fabio Capello's England call

In June he appeared to be in Fabio Capello’s bad books and by August, even Sir Alex Ferguson seemed less than enamored with Michael Carrick.

Asked why he had been omitted for the opening game of the new Barclays Premier League season, Manchester United’s manager suggested the reporter should ask his £18.5million signing.

Carrick has had a testing few months. A chastening encounter with that brilliant Barcelona midfield in the Champions League Final has been followed by more time on the United bench than he would have envisaged after three consecutive Premier League titles and a night when he actually got his hands on the European Cup.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/10/06/article-1218588-06BA8245000005DC-885_468x339.jpg

The Italian coach is determined to build an England team, indeed a squad, that can adapt to the different demands of a major tournament; one that can cope with the contrasting challenges that arise when you meet the likes of Italy, Germany, Spain or Brazil.

So it is up to Carrick to show he can do such a job, against Ukraine or Belarus, and perhaps even the Brazil side England will meet in a friendly in Qatar next month.

But he had fallen out of favour, even annoying Capello by failing to inform the England camp of a toe injury he was said to have suffered in Rome, which then ruled him out of the two World Cup qualifiers that concluded the season.

Since then, however, the attitude towards Carrick has softened. With Capello anyway.

It turns out Carrick was not fit for the Champions League Final; that the toe injury was something that became a closely-guarded secret in the build up to the game.

Ferguson did not want Barcelona to know a key member of his side needed an injection just to get through the match, although it must have been pretty obvious to Messrs Xavi and Iniesta that something was up.

It was probably why news failed to filter through to the FA that Carrick had a problem for Kazakhstan and Andorra until the Sunday after the clash in Rome.

It was old news at United, and something no one had then remembered to communicate to England amid the bitter disappointment of performing so poorly against the mighty Spaniards.
Carrick

Plan B: Carrick's Xabi Alonso-esque passing has made him an important member of the England squad

The situation at United remains a curious one. Carrick was terrific against Wolfsburg last week but Ferguson’s response was surprisingly cool.

Ferguson put Carrick’s early season absence down to the fact that he was ‘a slow starter’ and then omitted him from the side that started against Sunderland on Saturday.

In Capello, though, Carrick has reignited some interest, so much so that the Italian has now declared that the United midfielder will start against either Ukraine this Saturday or Belarus four days later.

England might have qualified for next summer’s World Cup with these two games to spare but Capello is determined to make good use of them and the friendlies that will form what remains of the build-up to South Africa.

And Carrick is someone Capello sees as an important cog in his England machine.

Capello considers Carrick unique; a player who offers an alternative to Gareth Barry in that midfield holding role should England need a plan B.

Carrick is a holding midfielder who performs more of a quarterback role with his passing. As close to Xabi Alonso as Capello can find. And something different to the more defensive, more destructive Barry.

It will be interesting if Owen Hargreaves is available come next summer. Sources at United insist he will be back soon and as fit as ever.

They say the medical specialists have cured his chronic knee problem, allowing him to return to the kind of form he displayed in the last World Cup.

But Hargreaves is a player Barry needs to worry about and not someone who should concern Carrick if he proves himself capable of executing the game plan Capello has in mind.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/10/06/article-1218588-06BA3367000005DC-144_306x423.jpg

This is an important time for Capello, and the injuries that have forced Joleon Lescott and Paul Robinson to withdraw will at least allow the England manager to take another look at yet more options.

Joe Hart could stake a claim to become England’s third choice goalkeeper behind David James and Robert Green, while Gary Cahill has a chance to impress.

In training, James and Ashley Cole were forced to sit on the sidelines.

More concerns for Capello. But Carrick was fit and for the United midfielder it represented the start of a very important week.

Carrick: Big game at Stamford Bridge

http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/347074_33_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=347074&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=10&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick wants to put down a marker at Stamford Bridge next Sunday.

He is determined they will not fall victim to Chelsea the way they did at Liverpool.

United returned to winning ways in the Premier League after their Anfield setback by defeating Blackburn 2-0, thanks to goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney.

Carrick said: "It is always a big game at Stamford Bridge, no matter what the occasion is.

"When it is tight at the top like it is, after the defeat to Liverpool we do not want to lose track on the big teams and it will be an important game for us.

"At this stage of the season it is just about accumulating points and seeing where you are in the later stages.

"The table is changing week in, week out but after Christmas things tend to settle down a bit.

"Then maybe you get one or two that pull away - and hopefully we will included in that. You've just got to believe in yourself and if you do, anything can happen."

Before the Chelsea date, United could take another step to qualifying for the next stage of the Champions League.

They are aiming for a fourth straight win on Tuesday when CSKA Moscow arrive at Old Trafford.

United are in good heart after beating Blackburn with Berbatov opening the scoring in the 55th minute with a superb turn and shot.

However it wasn't until two minutes from time that Rooney made the game safe with his eighth goal of the season - a sweet finish.

Carrick said: "We always believe we can create a chance that we can score from. Thankfully Berba did that with a terrific finish.

"It was a tremendous volley. We have seen him do it before and hopefully we will see him do it many times again.

"That is what he is all about, he uses his quality in the final third and he maybe could have had one or two more today."

Former Bordeaux winger Gabriel Obertan should have marked his league debut by finding the target but squandered two gilt-edged chances.

Obertan, now fully recovered from a nagging back injury, was one on one with Paul Robinson but saw his weak shot blocked by the goalkeeper.

Then the 20-year-old found himself clear yards from goal following a square ball from Antonio Valencia, only to find the wrong side of the post.

Obertan felt his lack of match sharpness contributed to him not taking advantage of the opportunities.

He said: "I was a bit disappointed but I have been injured for four months. I think it was a good debut, I ran hard and tried to do my best.

"I was a bit nervous but I really enjoyed the game, everyone was behind me and encouraging me, so that was good.

"I need a bit of rhythm, a few games to be fully fit. I think I will be better after a few matches."

Blackburn have now suffered 10 straight defeats on the road and manager Sam Allardyce is looking forward to returning to Ewood Park on Saturday.

However he believes it will be a crucial test against a Portsmouth side, showing signs of recovery after a terrible start.

Allardyce said: "It is a massive game and there is huge pressure on us now.

"We do not want to start slipping after 10 games. We need to show our ability in the next month to get away from the relegation zone."

Blackburn found the net on the stroke of full time through substitute Nikola Kalinic only for his effort to be disallowed, a decision Allardyce found baffling.

He added: "This is so far onside, it is not a close one. It should have been given. With four minutes to go who knows what might have happened."

Manchester United star Michael Carrick insists: I'm happy here and I won't be returning to Spurs
-dailymail.co.uk-

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has ruled out a return to Tottenham, despite being linked with the north Londoners.

Carrick joined United from Spurs in the summer of 2006, and has since won three successive Premier League titles and a European Cup.

Some reports over the summer claimed he may be on his way back to Tottenham, but Carrick, whose contract runs to 2013, said: 'You never know in football but I see no reason to leave at all.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/12/01/article-0-074F5F67000005DC-70_468x305.jpg

'I am delighted to be here. It is as high as you can get.'

United's success has been extraordinary under Sir Alex Ferguson, but Carrick has admitted he still finds it hard to work out his secret.

'He has got the presence, the aura that he has developed because he has been so successful. The respect he gets is not just from the players but everyone around the club.'

Ferguson's infamous hair dryer treatment would certainly seem to be a thing of the past, and Carrick confirmed he this is no longer administered.

'Not so much these days,' he said. 'We are playing well enough so he doesn’t have to lose his rag quite so often.'

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/12/01/article-0-051DA5CE0000044D-965_468x377.jpg

United, who face Tottenham in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup, are currently five points leaders Chelsea.

'This season has been the most unpredictable for a long while. Manchester City, Aston Villa and Tottenham are looking to be pushing up there. And at the moment Tottenham look as strong as anyone.

And Carrick revealed that the Spurs player who has impressed him the most is Aaron Lennon.

'He has looked very good. I know him quite well, played with him for a couple of years. He has brought his game to a new level and will be causing problems to a lot of left backs this year.'

Fergie Siapkan Carrick Jadi Bek Tengah
Kris Fathoni W - detiksport

London - Problema lini belakang Manchester United bikin Sir Alex Ferguson harus putar otak untuk laga Liga Champions tengah pekan depan. Michael Carrick pun siap diplot jadi bek tengah.

Sir Alex Ferguson to turn to Michael Carrick as defensive worries pile up

Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to ask Michael Carrick to carry on defending to solve one of the worst injury crises of his 23-year Manchester United reign.

Carrick came on to replace Gary Neville at centre-back in yesterday's 4-0 victory against West Ham at Upton Park.

Now Ferguson wants Carrick, who had never played in central defence before, to demonstrate his all-round talent again by partnering Nemanja Vidic on Tuesday night against Wolfsburg in the Champions League.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/12/06/article-0-0763D14E000005DC-276_468x302.jpg

Ferguson expects Vidic to have recovered from a bout of flu but will be without a long line of defenders including Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, John O'Shea, Neville, who pulled up with a groin injury yesterday, Rafael and Wes Brown who limped off in the dying minutes.

If any team knows how to deal with a crisis it is United, whose back four at the end of Saturday's game comprised of three midfielders in Ryan Giggs, Carrick and Darren Fletcher, plus left-back Patrice Evra playing at centre half. And still West Ham never looked like scoring.

Ferguson, who revealed he had wanted to play Carrick in midfield from the start but kept him on the bench as cover for his makeshift defence, said: 'The injuries in defence are becoming a bit of a headache to us.

'Carrick stepped in and did very, very well.

'He's got the composure and the pace and it was a good performance in the second half. We used our experience."

Carrick happy to fill in for United
-msn.foxsports.com-

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/46863000/jpg/_46863543_carrick_512.jpg

Michael Carrick accepts he is not the next Rio Ferdinand, but claims he is happy filling in at centre-half if needed for Manchester United.

The England international finished United's 4-0 weekend win at West Ham at the heart of Sir Alex Ferguson's defence following an injury to Gary Neville.

Carrick was forced to play 56 minutes at the back alongside Patrice Evra, although it mattered little as the reigning champions strolled to a convincing win over the struggling Hammers.

The former West Ham midfielder was happy with his defensive outing and hopes gaining experience as an out-and-out defender could bolster his midfield attributes.

"I'm not exactly the next Rio Ferdinand but it was one of those days," explained Carrick.

"The first time I have ever played there in my life was at this level, but the lads made it easier by playing the way that they did.

"I really enjoyed it. It's different surroundings and a whole different perspective on the game.

"You're not involved as much as when you're in midfield, but maybe it will help with my defending when I'm back in midfield."

Team-mate Darron Gibson, who scored at Upton Park, reserved special praise for Carrick for playing much of the match out of position.

"Not only did we win, but to come away with such a convincing performance is a great show from all the lads," added Gibson.

"Michael did ever so well, but I don't think Rio's got anything to worry about. The manager told Michael he might have to play centre-half if anything happened.

"It's unusual for us to be missing so many defenders, but we've got so many players who can come and step in and give a performance and fill the gaps."

Carrick: We're in top form
-manutd.com-

http://picsrv.manutd.com/?fif=/manu/img_10_32277_2220.jpg&obj=iip,1.0&wid=480&hei=179&rgn=0.010330578512396694,0.07750472589792061,0.991 7355371900827,0.3383742911153119&cvt=jpeg

Michael Carrick says United are ready to starting clicking through gears in pursuit of top honours.

Having topped Group B in the Champions League with a performance full of character in the face of horrendous injury problems, and of course courtesy of the deadly finishing of Michael Owen, the Reds are now ready to turn the focus onto league matters.

Aston Villa visit Old Trafford on Saturday evening in one of the toughest fixtures on the winter schedule. United have been in excellent form in the league, hitting three past Everton, scoring four against Portsmouth and claiming another four against West Ham.

And despite the team's injury-hit defence, which has forced Carrick to twice be deployed as an emergency - and impressive - centre-back, the Reds midfielder promises United are looking only to extend that run of form.

"We won't take our foot off the pedal now," he says. "We're starting to play well now and we are scoring some goals too. Hopefully that continues.

"There's an awful long way to go and we are not getting carried away. But we have been there before and know what is required. It is about doing the business now."

Carrick could find himself partnering Nemanja Vidic in central defence against Villa, but the against-odds triumph of the makeshift defence in Wolfsburg has given him confidence in this temporary position.

"We will have to see who is back," he said. "That might be the end for me [at centre-back]. We'll have to see what the body count is like. It is another big game.

"Against Wolfsburg it was the first time a lot of us have played that system and in those positions," he said. "So it was very satisfying to come away with a win.

"It is a lot different playing centre-half to midfield. I enjoyed it though. It was a good test for us. It's not the physical side that's hard about playing centre-half it's the mental aspect. Concentration and focus are vital... and hoping for the best!"

Carrick has taken to the role with aplomb, although his adaptability may be tested to the full if he lines up in defence against Villa's pace and physical dominance. But against Wolfsburg's powerful forwards Edin Dzeko and Grafite, at least he got some good practice.

"I just tried to put myself in the right positions and tried to do my best," he added. "I've never headed the ball as much before! They had a spell in the second half, which you expect away from home, but we did well to come away with the points.

"We rode our luck at times but we knew we had to do that. We got our heads down and worked hard and the lads in front of us were brilliant keeping the ball. Overall it was a great night."

Can Michael Carrick become the new Paolo Maldini?
-guardian.co.uk-

http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Sport/Pix/columnists/2009/12/11/1260531397587/Michael-Carrick-001.jpg

A mentor of the Manchester United midfielder believes he is showing signs of one day becoming a classy defender.

It was deep into the second half of Manchester United's televised midweek Champions League win at Wolfsburg when Glenn Roeder reached for his mobile phone and sent Michael Carrick a text message. As United's midfielder-turned-sweeper for the night returned to the dressing room he was duly greeted by the words: "The new Maldini." Back in his Essex sitting room, Roeder, who managed the young Carrick at West Ham United, received the reply: "Not for a long while..."

At 28 Carrick should have several seasons spent controlling midfield ahead of him, but he could yet finish his career occupying the position in which Glenn Hoddle, Ruud Gullit and occasionally Paolo Maldini enjoyed distinguished swansongs.

"The free, sweeping role, behind two markers in a back three is an old man's position and Michael's still too young for it, still too valuable in central midfield," said Roeder. "But, by the time he gets into his 30s, 3-5-2 might just be back in fashion and Michael may find himself turned into a sweeper.

"At this moment, I don't think there is anyone in England who would be capable of playing that role better than Michael. I can see him taking the ball from the goalkeeper, bringing it out and building play."

Once an elegant centre-half capped at England B level, Roeder would have relished operating alongside a Carrick-style libero. "Michael's got a bit of height, which you need to sweep, he's got a wonderful passing range and just glides across the pitch," said Roeder. "He's also possesses two good feet so, if strikers try to close him down on his right side – his natural one – he'll just play off his left foot, which is now just as good. And, most importantly, Michael reads the game brilliantly."

Roeder's belief that Sir Alex Ferguson really could have "the new Maldini" on his hands is not informed purely by his having seen Gullit and Hoddle make seamless transitions from midfielders to liberos at Chelsea and Swindon Town respectively.

"It's about Michael's football brain, his intelligence and attitude," he said. "Like Paolo di Canio, Paul Gascoigne and Rob Lee, Michael really understands football."

In Wolfsburg a litany of injuries left Ferguson with one fit specialist defender in Patrice Evra, thereby forcing the decision to deploy Carrick between Evra and his fellow midfielder Darren Fletcher.

Although Carrick's job was not exactly that of a pure sweeper as, sporadically, United confused the Germans by switching to 4-4-2 with Park Ji-sung dropping back to right back, he was part of a system designed to make optimal use of United's superior passing ability and movement.

Perhaps appropriately, this experiment took place in Germany. "Nowadays 3-5-2 is old ideology but there was a time when every German team played it and every side used their best player at sweeper," said Roeder. "It was the Beckenbauer syndrome.

"Today, though, everyone's into the Dutch ideology of 4-3-3 and 4-5-1, which is all about ensuring you're never outnumbered in midfield."

For the visit of Aston Villa tomorrow, Ferguson is expected to revert to a flat-back four with Carrick paired alongside the returning Nemanja Vidic.

Considering that Martin O'Neill's physically formidable attacking armoury includes John Carew, Emile Heskey and Gabriel Agbonlahor, Carrick could be in for a daunting 90 minutes. Roeder, though, remains unconcerned.

"Michael's not a marker, he'll never be a conventional centre-half, but as long as Vidic partners him, he'll be fine," he said. "Vidic will go for everything in the air and Michael will drop off and tidy up.

"He musn't be drawn into a physical battle but there's more than one way to defend. Michael will play with his brain, he'll draw Villa's strikers into areas where they don't want to be and lay the ball off where they don't want it to go."

Aksi Carrick si Bek Tengah Dapat Pujian
Kris Fathoni W - detiksport

http://www.detiksport.com/images/content/2009/12/16/72/CarrickDay.jpg

Carrick warning over thrashing

MICHAEL CARRICK believes Manchester United's demolition of Wigan is a warning the champions are getting back to their best.

Alex Ferguson's men moved within two points and two goals of leaders Chelsea with the 5-0 Old Trafford thrashing.

And Carrick, who hit the second, feels United are hitting form at just the right time.

He said: "Two points difference is not the end of world for us. We're pretty comfortable with where we are.

"We are experienced enough to be patient.

"We know with the run-in, and everyone fit and playing consistently, we've a chance. The team has changed a lot in recent weeks but it's about getting through it and picking up as many points as possible.

"We played some terrific football against Wigan and looked like the team we know we can be."

Carrick admits United have not been quite on top of their game so far this season but insists performances like that against the Latics will only help.

He added: "Hopefully, this sort of game can get us back to our top form. At home we haven't really hit our best.

"But we want to improve and now is the time to do it."

Michael Carrick is expecting far more convincing displays from Manchester United during the second half of the season.

"We have not hit top form all season, especially at home," said Carrick. "We have just been doing enough to get through. We know we are better than that and now is the time to do it.

"It is a busy time until the end of the season. We need to get a run going and start playing some good football.

"We are in a good position in the league, we have the FA Cup coming up, we are through to the Champions League last 16 and reached the Carling Cup semi-finals. We have done as much as we can so far. Now is the time to really drive on and achieve things again. That is why we are here."

Carrick is also relishing Manchester United's FA Cup tie with Leeds this weekend. "Experiencing those types of feisty atmospheres are why you play football," he said. "Rivalries like that add extra spice. It is great for the fans and good for the players.

"No matter where you play, or whether the atmosphere is for or against you, it is a great feeling to play. Leeds are bringing a lot of fans and we are looking forward to it. It should be a cracking game."

Carrick: Winning the league is always the priority
-strettyender.com-

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01497/michael_carrick_1497326c.jpg

Despite starting the new year with a defeat, Michael Carrick admits the priories of the club haven’t changed. The Premier League is always the number one priority, followed closely by the Champions League and then the domestic cups.

The midfielder wants to win as much silverware as possible in 2010 and make it four titles in a row.

“Our first aim in 2010 is to win the league again,” says Carrick. “It’s always been the first thing we’ve set out to do and to win four in a row would be amazing,” he told manutd.com.

“Then there’s the Champions League. Given how tough it is to be successful, our record over the last few years has been very good. We also want to do well in the Carling Cup. We want to get our hands on as much as possible.”

Michael Carrick is a traditionally slow starter in the league and admits it’s this part of the season that he enjoys most because of the importance of each game.

“It gets earlier each year! This season has been strange with some odd results. But it’s a vital time, the manager has stressed that to us, although most of us have been here before.

“We know how important it is. It’s always three more vital points or the next round of a cup, so every game becomes more important.”

Michael Carrick insists: One cup defeat has not ended Manchester United's season

When life was better: Wayne Rooney celebrates scoring against Wigan with Michael Carrick

Michael Carrick knows Manchester United need to hit the winning trail again once they manage to re-start their campaign.

After successive wins against Hull and Wigan immediately after Christmas, 2010 looked set to start on a positive note for Sir Alex Ferguson's team.

Instead, it all went wrong on Sunday when they were bundled out of the FA Cup by League One Leeds United at Old Trafford.

The postponement of tonight's Carling Cup semi-final with Manchester City at Eastlands has prevented the Red Devils giving the new year a belated kick start.

Providing the snow relents, Ferguson and his men will travel to Birmingham on Saturday to face Alex McLeish's in-form Blues.

And midfielder Carrick knows victory is essential.

'This season has been strange with some odd results,' said the England star. 'But it is a vital time. The manager has stressed that to us.

'Although most of us have been here before he has told us how every game becomes more important.'

The extra recovery time should mean Nemanja Vidic is available for the trip to St Andrew's after he tweaked a nerve in his leg during the warm-up for Sunday's defeat and opted to pull out.

That move only fuelled speculation about Vidic's future, even though the defender has always publicly stated his desire to remain at United.

Confident: Manchester United's Michael Carrick isn't panicking despite his side's winless start to the decade

Real Madrid are the latest club to be linked with the Serbian, with the suggestion that the Spanish giants might want to do a deal this month, even though Vidic would be ineligible for the Champions League.

However, Vidic's agent Paolo Fabbri has tried to play down such talk.

'I am quite surprised by all these rumours, the situation is under control and is not unusual,' said Fabbri.

'As far as I know the player is not negotiating with any other club. Regarding the mood of the player, I think it is standard. I have not spoken to him since the last defeat, but as far as I know there is no problem.'

Michael Carrick shocked by red card
-espnstar.com-

Michael Carrick admits he was 'shocked' to be sent off at the end of Manchester United's 3-2 win over AC Milan.

The midfielder was shown a second yellow card in stoppage-time after flicking the ball away following Patrice Evra's foul on Alexandre Pato.

Sir Alex Ferguson had few complaints with the decision and stated that Portuguese referee Olegario Benquerenca had little option but to dismiss Carrick.

However, following a first red card of his professional career, Carrick feels he was harshly treated by the decision, which rules the England international out of the second leg of the UEFA Champions League last-16 tie in three weeks' time.

"It was very soft to be honest," Carrick told Sky Sports News.

"It rolled at me and I flicked it into Pat's path as he's ran past me.

"It wasn't as if there was a player from their team trying to get it and it didn't slow the game down in any way.

"I was just shocked really, to be honest."

Asked if he spoke to the referee about the incident, Carrick replied: "What can you say really?

"He said it was for kicking the ball away, but I don't believe I kicked the ball away to be honest.

"I didn't slow the game down in any way, I was just surprised more than anything."

Carrick driven by cup ambition

http://m.gmgrd.co.uk/res/955.$plit/C_71_article_1194049_image_list_image_list_item_0_ image.jpg?26%2F02%2F2010%2016%3A03%3A05%3A076

Michael Carrick has admitted he is a changed man thanks to life at Old Trafford.

Carrick freely accepts that when he moved north from Tottenham in 2006 the thought of winning just one medal was enough.

Yet it did not take much time surrounded by the serial trophy hunters at Manchester United to alter Carrick's view.

So, although the England midfielder has three Premier League titles, a European Cup and a Carling Cup winners' medal in his collection, he retains a fairly strong hunger to beat Aston Villa in Sunday's Carling Cup final.

"Without doubt I am a different player than I was when I arrived," he said.

"I used to dream about winning a trophy and I was lucky enough to win the Premier League in my first year.

"That was great and before I might have settled for it, relaxed and thought, 'That's me'.

"But pretty much straight afterwards, before we went away in the summer, we lost the FA Cup final.

"It made me wanted to win something else to put that right.

"Ever since then, as soon as I have won something, I have wanted more.

"Winning is a great feeling but the desire to achieve extra is the thing that drives you on."

United intensity

That intensity is one of the reasons Carrick has no intention of looking back, even though he has been part of the most prolific period of gathering silverware that United have ever known.

"Your career is not about what you have done over the last few years," he said.

"It is about the future. That is what is so great about the people at this football club.

"The appetite of people like Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville - and not forgetting the manager - is incredible and it rubs off on everyone else.

"When I have my feet up in the front room in 10 years' time maybe then I will look back and say we had a good spell.

"Right now I want that spell to go on as long as possible."

The Carling Cup may not have the prestige of the Premier League, FA Cup or Champions League but it offers Carrick and his team-mates a potential place in the history books.

In all their years, Manchester United have never successfully retained a cup competition.

After Ben Foster's penalty shoot-out heroics against Tottenham last season, that is exactly what the Reds will do if they overcome Martin O'Neill's men.

"It would be nice to do and we have got ourselves into a good position," observed Carrick.

"But that is just a by-product of the main aim, which is winning the game and picking up that medal."

Carrick: MU Memang Lapar

http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2008/05/18/003513p.jpg

(SKY)

Peran-Carrick bareng Fletcher, meski kadang Carrick masih perlu kasih jalan buat the ginger prince Scholsey, semakin berwarna menjelang akhir musim 09/10.

Hehe, keliatannya kok kayak nyudutin Carrick yah?

Terus Carrick dikemanain?

How a night on Barcelona's carousel put Michael Carrick's career in a spin
22nd April 2010 - dailymail.co.uk

During the January transfer window, Harry Redknapp sat in his office after a game in the Barclays Premier League and was asked by a friend about the possibility of re-signing Michael Carrick for Tottenham.

‘I would love to have him here... I would do it in a flash,’ said the Tottenham manager. ‘But there is no chance. Alex wouldn’t let him leave.’

On Saturday Redknapp brings his team to Old Trafford for a crucial game for his team and for Manchester United. Carrick may well line up for United but, equally, he may not. It has been that kind of season.

As such, Redknapp may harbour a little more hope of taking him back to White Hart Lane one day in the future.

A player who was perhaps at the peak of his powers when he signed a new contract before the 2008 Champions League Final, Carrick remains part of the first-team picture at Old Trafford. Two years shy of his 30th birthday, time remains on his side.

Nevertheless, Carrick is currently missing a little of his lustre. He has missed recent crucial games against Chelsea, Manchester City and Blackburn. As the season has reached its thrilling climax at Old Trafford, he has not been noticeably absent.

‘The competition here is always fierce,’ reflected Carrick recently. ‘Your career is not about what you have done over the last few years. It’s about what you do now.’

The United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, has three category of players. Those he can’t leave out of his team. Those he would rather not. And those he will rotate throughout the season.

Carrick arrived after the 2006 Germany World Cup with a view to making it to the first list. Indeed, he got there on the back of his astute passing and positional awareness developed under Redknapp’s care at West Ham a decade ago.

But Ferguson’s faith seems to have dwindled a little. These days he finds himself in a first-team holding pen alongside players like Dimitar Berbatov, Nani and Ji-Sung Park. For a player who made such strides after joining the club, it cannot be a nice feeling.

‘You need your squad at this level,’ said Ferguson when asked about Carrick recently. ‘Not everybody can play every week. Michael or any of the other players are no different.’

Despite the United manager’s attempts to accentuate the obvious, it is clear that

Carrick’s cause has not been helped by some of his performances in the really big games.

Ferguson is well aware of the need for his players to perform consistently well over a season, but in his heart it is contributions on the important nights that ultimately define them.

To this day, Ferguson remains irritated about his team’s failure to step up to the plate when losing the Champions League final to Barcelona in Rome last May and it is very much the case that Carrick — in the absence of the suspended Darren Fletcher — was among the culprits.

Barcelona’s mesmeric midfield passed the ball around him all night at the Olympic Stadium and if the final in Moscow 2008 saw Carrick at the peak of his powers, then the same occasion a year later only served notice of a change in his standing.

Certainly this season has not seen the best of a player who, just 18 months ago, looked like developing in to the quick-passing, long-striding, rangy midfielder that United so desperately needed on the pitch.

Carrick has played plenty of games, 28 in the Premier League so far, but the statistics reveal just two goals and one assist this season.

Against Bayern Munich in the Champions League recently, Carrick endured two of his less memorable nights. In Bavaria, he was anonymous.

Afterwards Ferguson launched a furious verbal assault on his team in the dressing room of the Allianz Arena. His main complaint was United’s failure to keep the ball and use it well. Along with the likes of Fletcher and Paul Scholes, this was supposed to be one of Carrick’s strengths.

At Old Trafford in the return leg things got worse. It did not escape Ferguson’s notice that — amid the drama of Rafael’s sending off and Arjen Robben’s stunning winning strike — it was Carrick’s mistake that allowed the Germans to score and gain a foothold in the tie before half-time.

Tellingly, Carrick has not featured in Ferguson’s team since that night. United say the Geordie is not injured. Even at 68, when Ferguson acts, he does so ruthlessly.

Ferguson is a long-standing fan of Spurs midfielder Luka Modric and defender Gareth Bale — a player he almost bought from Southampton three years ago. If Redknapp did wish to launch an audacious bid for Carrick then he may yet have some
limited bargaining power.

For now the Tottenham manager must hope Carrick does not return to prominence with a match-winning performance at Old Trafford. Carrick himself will just hope to be back in the team.

World Cup could be United tonic for Carrick

http://m.gmgrd.co.uk/res/224.$plit/C_71_article_1241404_image_list_image_list_item_0_ image.jpg?28%2F05%2F2010%2009%3A12%3A25%3A188

Michael Carrick is hoping to use the World Cup to rescue his United career.

The England midfielder’s Old Trafford future is under serious threat as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to return United to Premier League supremacy.

Carrick found himself on the fringes as Fergie tried to hold off Chelsea in the race for the title and could find himself on the way out as the United boss firms up his plans for next season.

With Rafael van der Vaart, Luka Modric, James Milner and Joe Cole all on Ferguson’s radar, it is becoming increasingly likely that Carrick – who won three successive titles in his first three years at the club – could be the one to make way.

The 28-year-old former West Ham and Tottenham star still isn’t guaranteed a place in Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad.

With Gareth Barry facing a race to be fit for the tournament, it could present Carrick with the chance to put some gloss on a season that petered out disappointingly at club level.

He will be well aware that Nicky Butt’s impressive form in the 2002 World Cup saw him earn a starting berth at United the following season.

Carrick will have to hope he can do the same – or at the very least put himself in the shop window for potential suitors.

It has already been mooted that he could be used as a makeweight in any deal to bring Modric to Old Trafford, even if Harry Redknapp insists the Tottenham playmaker is not for sale.

Carrick came under criticism for the size of his fee following his £18.6m transfer from Spurs in 2006 but silenced doubters by immediately helping United to their first title in four years.

A year later he was a pivotal part in their Premier League and Champions League double and again in their third successive title in 2009.

But he struggled to find consistency last season, with Ferguson saying he was a notoriously slow starter as he toiled in the opening weeks of the campaign.

By the end of the season he found himself left out of the side for Scholes and Darron Gibson as Ferguson finally appeared to lose faith in him.

Michael Carrick ready to take his last chance after fluffing his lines at Wembley

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/05/29/article-1282455-09BCD9CC000005DC-693_306x406.jpg

Michael Carrick fluffed his lines in his World Cup audition against Mexico and is praying for one more chance to get on the plane to South Africa.

The Manchester United midfielder was given an hour at Wembley on Wednesday but failed to produce the goods before making way for Tom Huddlestone.

Carrick, 28, is now desperate for Fabio Capello to hand him a last opportunity to impress in Sunday’s friendly against Japan in Austria.

‘I don’t know whether I’ve done enough to be in the squad,’ he said. ‘It’s not for me to say. We’ll just have to wait and see.

‘It’s a different situation to what we’re used to, but that’s what it is. You’ve just got to hope your best has been good enough.

‘I don’t think you can get yourself too worked up. You’ve just go to do your best then it’s up to the manager. If you’re putting pressure on yourself, it’s not going to do you any good at all.

‘You don’t think about possible rivals. You’re going out to play for your country and you’re part of the squad.

'If you go out thinking about rivals and stuff then you’re going to have a problem, so that is not something that comes into your mind when you’re on the pitch.

‘The boys have not really been talking about whether they’re going or not. We’ve been busy training and working hard and you’ve just got to stay focused on the job.’

Capello has promised to deliver the news to each player personally, almost certainly with a phone call. He said: ‘It could be a long day, but that’s just how it is. You’ve got to deal with it.’

Why Carrick isn't central to Fab's plans

http://m.gmgrd.co.uk/res/224.$plit/C_71_article_1241404_image_list_image_list_item_0_ image.jpg?28%2F05%2F2010%2009%3A12%3A25%3A188

Michael Carrick received a hint as to what he needed to achieve to become an England regular when he made his international debut in 2001.

His first cap also gave him a glimpse into the future and the potential frustration that would face him for both club and country.

The United midfielder, then plying his trade at West Ham, made his England bow nine years ago when he came on as a sub in a friendly against Mexico at Pride Park.

The man he replaced was Paul Scholes. The Reds schemer was a regular and had scored after just three minutes against the Mexicans.

It was clear that as an England creator in midfield you also needed goals in your locker to keep ahead of your rivals.

Scholes did that with a record of 14 goals in 66 appearances for Glenn Hoddle, Kevin Keegan and Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Scholes’ scoring contribution was eventually matched by his successor Frank Lampard after the United star retired from international football in 2004. The door opened to replace the Mancunian for Lampard because, as well as his ability to unlock defences and create for team-mates, he had goals to beef up his CV.

To date it has been 20 in 78 appearances. It has left Carrick (right) very much in the shadows. Though he has proved he can be a top-class creative midfielder, he just hasn’t supplied the goals.

Duck

Scholes and Lampard’s dominance for England in the inventive role has meant Carrick has been reduced to just 22 caps in nine years. He has yet to break his scoring duck for England.

It has become clear he is very much down the pecking order at England level when it comes to the starting XI. Of his 22 appearances, only five have come in competitive matches.

Three Euro 2008 qualifiers for Steve McClaren, an outing in the 2006 World Cup for Eriksson and a World Cup qualifier under Fabio Capello has been his lot apart from friendlies.

When he played in the defeat by Ukraine in Dnipro last October it was his first competitive start for three years.

Where Scholes was the man in possession when he first made the squad now it is the Lampard and Steven Gerrard ticket that is blocking Carrick’s progress.

Last season, even at 35, Scholes overshadowed Carrick in the middle of the park both with goals and level of performance at United.

It left him sweating on his inclusion in Capello’s final 23 with some predicting he would miss the cut.

He made it, but whether he will get the chance to make an impact looks difficult.

The fact Capello has only started him in one competitive match so far doesn’t augur well for the United man.

Sunderland make £7million move for Manchester United midfielder Carrick

By Colin Young Last updated at 2:21 AM on 10th July 2010

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/07/09/article-1293532-094046A4000005DC-982_468x345.jpg
Sunderland are weighing up a £7million bid for Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick.

Stadium of Light supremo Steve Bruce is preparing to raid his former club for fellow ex-Wallsend Boys Club player Carrick as he looks for an immediate replacement for captain Lorik Cana.

The Albania midfielder stunned the Wearside club earlier this week after engineering a £6m switch to Galatasaray, two days into pre-season training and just a year after joining the club from Marseille.

Carrick, who moved to Old Trafford from Tottenham for an initial £14m four years ago, would be ideal skipper material for Bruce, who has Michael Turner, Lee Cattermole or Craig Gordon as alternatives to take the captain's armband.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to listen to offers for the England midfielder, who turns 29 at the end of the month.

Wallsend-born Carrick, like Bruce a boyhood Newcastle fan, struggled to hold down a regular place at Old Trafford last season, starting only two of the last nine games as they lost their title to Chelsea.

Despite losing Cana, Bruce does have cover in central midfield following the surprise emergence of Jordan Henderson and David Meyler from the academy. But Meyler is out until Christmas at least after suffering a serious knee injury against United in May.

Cattermole, Kieran Richardson, new signing Cristian Riveros and highly rated teenager Jack Colback are other options, but Bruce wants an experienced campaigner for the start of the campaign.

Sunderland have also made a £6.5m bid for Schalke's Germany international Heiko Westermann while Argentine defender Marcos Angeleri is training on Wearside as he waits to complete a loan move from Mexico.

Rennes' Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan is under consideration but Wigan have priced Charles N'Zogbia and Maynor Figueroa out of moves to Sunderland.

tp penampilannya mulai menurun bro,..kalo diperhatiin semusim kemaren,..benar2 udah menurun penampilan mc,..
kasian kalo mnurut gw tetap dipertahanin, usia yg semakin senja dgn jam terbang yg mulai kalah bersaing dgn para youngster nantinya (gibbo, cleverly, ando, atau mungkin new comer nantinya) maka sama ajah membiarkan carrick terpuruk..
btw kalo gak slah gw pernah baca dimana gitu, saf sempat meminta harry redknapp untuk kembali menerima carrick deh...hmmf sebegitu pedulinya yah sir alex dgn masa depan pemainnya,..
btw in saf we trust lah, apapun keputusannya gw percaya terbaik buat united!

Man Utd legend Robson confident Carrick will rediscover best form
-tribalfootball.com-

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ASHIuNmftbg/SXOAnUXQUCI/AAAAAAAAAH8/_8fHtFPuQQE/s320/michael-carrick.jpg

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson insists Michael Carrick still has a lot to offer Old Trafford.

Carrick has been linked with a move to Sunderland.

But Robson believes he still has the talent to be a hit with the Reds next season.

Robson said: "Michael's got a massive part to play for United.

"He didn't play so well in the second half of last season, but he's proved that he's a top player. He reads the game really well, he's a great passer of a ball, and he's very good at intercepting things.

"If I was picking the England team, Michael would have been in my team.

"But quite a few of the boys have got to pick themselves up and prove themselves again."

MICHAEL CARRICK should be fit for the start of the new season despite an injury scare.

The Manchester United midfielder took a knock on his ankle in United's 7-1 win over a League of Ireland XI last night.

It will rule him out of the Community Shield against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.

But United No2 Mike Phelan insists Carrick's injury is not likely to keep him on the sidelines for long.

Phelan said: "We don't think it's anything serious. We'll have another look at it in the morning.

"As a precaution if you get something like that then you have to come away early and we'll have a look at it today.

United full-backs Rafael and Fabio missed the clash at Dublin's brand new Aviva Stadium.

And Phelan added : "They came down with a little bit of a bug yesterday afternoon.

"They weren't too good this morning but we decided to bring them with us, and during the course of the day they got a little bit worse.

"There was no point risking them. They just sat in the stand, watching the game."

Carrick Kembali Latihan
Defanie Arianti - Okezone

(van)

Fergie Akui Buat Carrick Cedera

Soal Carrick, Ferguson Minta Maaf

http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2010/08/10/0610027p.jpg

(MIR)

Carrick: Ferguson Bungkam Usai Chelsea Juara
Michael Carrick ingin menutup lembaran kegagalan Manchester United menyabet gelar musim lalu.

"Tampaknya sang manajer tak berkata banyak usai pertandingan. Anda benar-benar tak bisa berbicara banyak kala itu. Tak ada satupun yang perasaannya bagus."

"Ketika itu yang ada dalam pikiran kami hanya ingin memulai musim berikutnya dan memulai untuk memperbaiki kebobrokan ini," tandasnya.

Sering Jadi Cadangan, Carrick Frustrasi
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detiksport

Tetapi Ferguson belum menunjukkan tanda bakal mengubah susunan skuadnya.
