Danny Welbeck, a highly promising forward capable of spectacular goals, was handed a first-team squad number for the 2008/09 season after starring for the Academy and Reserves.

The Manchester-born frontman joined United's youth set-up in summer 2007 and quickly caught the eye with his skilful, strong and pacy displays, which have seen him likened by Sir Alex Ferguson to former Arsenal forward Nwankwo Kanu.

He bagged nine goals in 14 starts for the Academy in 2007/08 and seven goals in 11 starts for the Reserves, including a superb hat-trick against Manchester City, as the Reds' second string won both the Manchester and Lancashire Senior Cups.

His performances earned him a call-up to the first-team squad for United's winter trip to Saudi Arabia. Although he missed a last-minute penalty, Welbeck impressed in his 25-minute appearance against Al Hilal.

Welbeck was later named on the substitutes' bench for the Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona and was part of the travelling party for the final in Moscow.

An increasing part of Sir Alex's plans, Welbeck rmade a bigger impression on the first team in the 2008/09 campaign.

His debut came in September 2008's Carling Cup win over Middlesbrough, and his first senior goal was a wonderful long-range effort against Stoke at Old Trafford two months later.

He also started the Carling Cup final triumph over Spurs at Wembley in March 2009, and finished with three goals in 13 appearances in all competitions.

As a schoolboy, Welbeck, capable of playing out wide as well as up front, played a prominent role in the Under-18s’ run to the 2006/07 FA Youth Cup final.

He’s also represented England at youth level, scoring at the Under-17s World
Championships in Korea in summer 2007 before joining the squad for the Under-19s European Championships a year later.

MU Berencana Tambah Kontrak Welbeck

VIVAnews - Tampil cemerlang tak membuat Manchester United berpikir panjang untuk menambah durasi kontrak pemain berbakatnya. Manajemen MU dilaporkan akan menambah kontrak Danny Welbeck.

Seperti diberitakan tribal, pemain asal Inggris itu akan memperkuat pasukan Sir Alex Ferguson selama empat tahun kedepan. Selain itu, gaji pemain kelahiran 1990 itu pun akan dinaikkan.

Danny Welbeck has been spurred on by the trust of Sir Alex Ferguson, and he aims to repay that faith by fulfilling his potential in United's first-team.

The Longsight-born striker, who turned 19 last week, has been handed four starts this season, while Sir Alex's decision not to hold back in the transfer market in the summer was partly based on the promise of players like Welbeck and Federico Macheda.

"It’s always special to hear stuff like that from the manager," Danny says in tonight's edition of United Review. "But I don’t just sit there thinking it’s all going to fall into place for me now.

"Now’s the time to work harder than I’ve ever worked before, take heed of the manager’s words, and push on."

Welbeck was one of six young players to be given a chance to impress in the Champions League last week

against Besiktas. While the Reds lost 1-0 and showed inevitable signs of inexperience on the European stage, there were many positives. And all those players are in contention to feature in the Carling Cup fifth round tie with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford this evening.

For Welbeck, the continued faith from the boss is reason only to put in more of the hard yards to hopefully one day realise his dream of being a United regular. "I’m just working hard on my game, and I’m trying to become a regular squad member," he says. "At the moment that’s all I’m thinking about. I’m trying to improve my all-round game and I’ve still got time on my hands, I’ve only just turned 19, so I’m just taking it step by step."

Manchester United - Danny Welbeck is learning a lot from Michael Owen

Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision to throw Michael Owen a Premier League and Champions League lifeline in the summer raised more than a few eyebrows.

Many so-called experts couldn’t grasp the concept behind the move, and wondered how and where Owen would fit in.

And whilst the former Liverpool goal machine has yet to make a massive impact for United on the pitch – he’s certainly having an influence off it.

United youngster Danny Welbeck admits he is learning all the time from watching and playing with Owen on the training pitch.

The 19-year-old has also had the ‘honour’ of playing alongside the England international on numerous occasions, mainly in the Carling Cup.

Welbeck’s game is improving all the time and Sir Alex has every faith that the striker, like many of his current crop of stars, will make the grade.

Much of that development, says Danny, is down to a golden opportunity he has been presented with – that of learning from the master marksman!

Welbeck told the club’s official website: “He (Owen) is a world class finisher. If he misses one opportunity he never hides, he’s always there to get himself in the right position for the next one.

“His movement off the ball is fantastic… it’s great to just watch him. I’ve been watching and learning.”

“He doesn’t take many touches in the box, he catches the keeper off-guard with quick-fire shots – just like he did for his goal at Barnsley. That stood out for me, and I consider myself fortunate to be working alongside him.”

Welbeck: United should stick with the kids

DANNY Welbeck has pleaded with Sir Alex Ferguson to stick with the kids for United's Carling Cup semi-final with City.

The teenage striker helped United to the trophy last season and has played a key role in their run to the last four this time around.

But it remains to be seen if Ferguson will stick to his policy of playing youth and fringe members of his squad after the Premier League champions were drawn against City.

Welbeck believes he and the likes of Federico Macheda, Darron Gibson, the Da Silva twins and Ritchie de Laet can lead United to Wembley - and wants to be given the chance to prove that against Mark Hughes' moneybags side.

He said: "It's a competition where the boss likes to give the youngsters a chance to show what they can do and what your abilities are.

"It's a different level and all the younger players who are selected relish the challenge.

"It was the first trophy I'd won with United's first team and it was such a great buzz. Just to win a trophy at the biggest club in the world was massive. I just want to feel like that again, year after year."

Ferguson decision

Just this week Ferguson insisted his latest crop of starlets could follow in the footsteps of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and David Beckham and become United legends.

They repaid the manager's faith with a 2-0 win against Tottenham in the Carling Cup quarter-finals to set up a mouth-watering semi-final double header against City.

But City proved they have the experience to blast away even the most talented of young sides with their 3-0 win against Arsenal on Wednesday.

The dilemma for Ferguson is whether he can risk playing such a young side when local bragging rights are at stake.

Hughes admits he is unsure whether the United boss will stick to his youth policy given the magnitude of the occasion.

"We will have to wait and see whether Sir Alex does stick with the youngsters," he said.

Accomplished

"But the kids there are very good - they played an almost full strength Tottenham side and won quite comfortably.

"Whoever he picks, it will be an accomplished side but we believe we can compete with anyone in the Premier League.

"Maybe this draw was meant to be. Two games against United will focus everyone's energies.

"When we play like we did on Wednesday we don't fear anyone, and we would back ourselves over two legs against anybody - including United.

"Over two games we will have a real go at it. We have taken this competition seriously from the off and we have needed to because in certain games we came close to slipping out if we hadn't been as strong as we were.

"Perhaps we have got the reward that our respect for the competition deserves."

The first leg of the semi-final will be played at Eastlands on January 6, which is live on BBC, with the return leg on January 19, live on Sky.

Welbeck has made two Barclays Premier League appearances this season but partnered hat-trick hero Michael Owen in the 3-1 midweek Champions League win over Wolfsburg.

An emerging talent, the England Under-21 striker is highly-rated at Old Trafford and manager Sir Alex Ferguson is pleased to have tied down the young prospect.

UNITED boss Sir Alex Ferguson has given his son Darren a helping hand by loaning striker Danny Welbeck to Preston.

19-year-old Welbeck has made 11 appearances for the Reds this season and scored two goals, but he will now drop down a division to help the Lilywhites until the end of the season.

Ferguson junior took over at Deepdale in early January and Longsight-born Welbeck is his first signing.

Welbeck follows in illustrious footsteps in being loaned to Preston, with David Beckham spending time there back in 1995.

Preston manager Darren Ferguson believes Danny Welbeck will join a Premier League club on loan next season, but still wants the striker back.

North End had the Manchester United youngster, 19, on loan for eight games last season, with the striker scoring twice.

He suffered a torn cartilage in his knee and had to return to United for surgery.

Ferguson told the Lancashire Evening Post: "I've been speaking to Danny and his brother, who looks after his interests, and things are ongoing on that front.

"My feeling is that they think it's right to try and get him out on loan to a Premier League club.

"But if that doesn't happen - if he comes to a Championship club - it will be us."

Sunderland's manager, a former Old Trafford captain, believes the 19-year-old forward will put pressure on his first-choice attacking pairing of Kenwyne Jones and Darren Bent.

Sir Alex Ferguson, United's manager, has high hopes in the long term for Welbeck but can currently offer him few first-team chances.

The teenager, who can also play on the wing, spent part of last season on loan at Preston North End, managed by Ferguson's son Darren, but, after scoring twice in eight games, had his season ended by a knee injury.

The Sunday Sun says Black Cats boss Steve Bruce originally wanted to sign the striker on a permanent basis but baulked at Sir Alex Ferguson’s valuation.

Now Bruce is hoping to land the 19-year-old on a season-long loan, but realises that Fergie will sell to any club who can meet his asking price. Welbeck is currently on a pre-season tour with Man U in the USA, but Bruce will be back in touch with Ferguson when they return to the UK.

Berita di tribalfootball nyebutin fergie sedang mempertimbangkan akan meminjamkan welbeck ke sunderland atau blackpool. Positifnya klo sunderland tuh karena tim lebih tangguh bisa jadi penampilan welbeck lebih terdukung (bingung nerjemahin artikel bahasa inggrisnya), tapi negatifnya persaingan lebih berat jadi peluang tampil kecil. Positifnya blackpool welbeck punya peluang tampil besar karena saingan lebih ringan, negatifnya blackpool mungkin kurang kompetitif di liga. Jadi.. Klo bener welbeck akan dipinjamkan,lebih baik ke klub mana ya?

Welbeck, who is highly-regarded at Old Trafford, enjoyed a stint at Preston last season and United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has now given the green light for the player to move to Wearside.

With the likes of Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen and new signing Javier Hernandez ahead of him in the pecking order Ferguson is happy to let Welbeck leave on a tempoary basis.

The 19-year-old, who has impressed during United's pre-season fixtures, is believed to be prepared to go in search of regular first team football.

The news will come as a boost to Sunderland boss Steve Bruce as he is keen to bolster his attacking options and take some of the burden off last season's leading goalscorer Darren Bent.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce hopes to complete the signing of Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on a season-long loan later today.

The 19-year-old has been linked with Sunderland for much of the summer and, following the sale of Kenwyne Jones to Stoke yesterday, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has allowed Welbeck to travel to the Stadium of Light.

Bruce said: "We're very close to bringing in young Danny Welbeck from Manchester United. He's a young man but he'll fit into our squad fantastically well.

"We've got him here this morning. It looks like the formalities are done as long as he comes through the medical and we hope to announce him later on today."

Bruce, though, remains on the lookout for another striker after recouping £8 million from the sale of Trinidad & Tobago international Jones.

"It would be unfair to say that he (Welbeck) is the replacement for Kenwyne," added Bruce. "There's still a couple of weeks to go in the market and hopefully the money is there to go and spend it."

And the Sunderland manager revealed he would be interested in Wales forward Craig Bellamy, who appears to be surplus to requirements at Manchester City, although he could be out of the Black Cats' price range.

Bruce said: "There's a lot of clubs who would love Craig Bellamy. He's a fantastic player but whether it's possible, I'm not quite sure.

"I've been a big admirer of Craig's for a long, long time. If he's available, which it looks like he is, and if we could afford him, then I would love to bring Craig to the football club."

Jones did not appear to leave Sunderland on the best of terms, saying yesterday: "Sometimes circumstances happen that you have to leave."

Remarks attributed to Bruce also hinted at a breakdown in relations but, although he admitted there had been "ups and downs" with the 25-year-old, he insisted it was purely a footballing decision to allow him to join Stoke.

He said: "I've never made any comment.I think Kenwyne needs a fresh challenge and the money that we've got will enable me to strengthen the squad further.

"On his day he's unplayable, but I wanted it every day. I shook him by the hand yesterday. We had a few ups and downs but I wish him the best of luck and hope he reignites himself."

It has been confirmed that Danny Welbeck has joined Sunderland on a season long loan where he will play alongside Darren Bent and former red Fraizer Campbell.

With Kenywne Jones leaving for Stoke, Welbeck really should get the opportunity to shine and bring on his game.

Danny got 45 minutes for England U-21s on Tuesday night, in their 2-0 win over Uzbekistan U-21, replacing Wigan’s Victor Moses.

“I’m delighted to be able to come to Sunderland – I’ve come here to get some experience and I’m looking forward to it,” Welbeck said.

“Sunderland are a big club. They have been in the Premier League for a few years now. I’m hungry and determined to make an impression here. A few Premier League clubs were interested in taking me on loan. I spoke to Steve Bruce a few times on the phone and the words he got across to me persuaded me to come here. When I knew Sunderland were interested I didn’t really look back and I’m looking forward to giving it my all here.”

The England Under-21 international now has three Premier League goals to his credit with the Stadium of Light club after going from a bit-part player to key figure on Wearside where he is now on a season-long loan.

"This move to Sunderland has definitely been a good one,” Welbeck said. "My aim was to come here and get minutes on the pitch. That is what I needed. When I was at Manchester United I was getting the odd chance here and there, but I was never ready to take them.

“I’d miss loads of games and then I’d be thrown in to it and I would struggle a bit to do myself justice. It’s different here, I’m playing every game and I’m getting better and better. You can see that I’m benefiting from it, I’m confident and I’m really enjoying my football at the moment.”

Welbeck, 20 on Friday, is putting thoughts of returning to Old Trafford to the back of his mind for now even though Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has suggested that while he would like to retain the forward, his club may not be able to afford to pay for his services.

“I’ve seen what Steve Bruce has said and there will be a decision I need to make on my future at some point,” Welbeck added. “It’s fine. At the moment, all I’m looking at is short term. I just want to do my best in every game and I’m not thinking about whether I go back to Manchester United or not at the moment.”

Manchester-born Welbeck has scored in 24 appearances for United and spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship side Preston where he struck two goals in eight games.

“I’m still learning my trade at the moment and I’m still development,” Welbeck said. "All the experience is good for me. Everything I’m doing here at Sunderland is helping and benefiting me.

“I want to work as hard as I can for the team. I’m a centre forward and that is my preferred position, but I’ll play on the wing or in midfield, wherever the manager wants me to play.”

Welbeck, whose mid-table team travel to lowly Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, struck twice in Monday night’s 2-2 draw with Everton in the North-East.

“We have relied too heavily on Darren Bent and Asamoah Gyan to get the goals and it’s nice I’ve finally been able to contribute as well,” Welbeck continued.

“It’s taken me a bit of time but that’s three in two games and I’ve got to be happy with that. We’ve got a great squad, we’re a young team and we’re very hungry. We’re just looking to push on the whole time. It’s a young English core and I’m really enjoying it.”

England midfielder Henderson is one of United’s top targets – with Ferguson preparing a £15m bid either in January or at the end of the season.

But he faces a battle with Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool for the highly-rated 20-year-old.

United are understood to be his first choice, but Sunderland manager, Steve Bruce, will hold out for the best offer. Which is where Ferguson holds the upper hand.

Reds striker Welbeck has been on loan at the Stadium of Light since the start of the season, impressing with a series of outstanding performances.

Welbeck netted in the first half and goalkeeper Craig Gordon then made a point-blank save to deny Zat Knight on the stroke of half-time.

Welbeck, on loan from Manchester United at the Stadium of Light, told Sky Sports 1: 'That was my aim when I came here to get games. I'm just looking forward to carrying on my form.

'Every game in the Premier League is going to be tough but to get the three points and go ahead of Bolton (in the table) is great.

'Everyone's working well together and the team spirit is very high.'

Gordon admitted his stop from Knight had been a moment of rare action for him in the match.

'It's probably the only real save I have had in the game but I managed to get a real solid hand to it,' he said.

'It was a good save and it was important at the end that we got three points and that's what makes making saves like that even more important.'

Ivan Klasnic's late miss made sure Sunderland were not denied the win and Gordon admitted: 'We got a bit of a life there but we will take the good luck when it comes.

'It's important for the team to keep clean sheets and keep grinding out 1-0 wins.'

Gol Welbeck Menangkan Sunderland

Sunderland mengalahkan Bolton sekaligus menggeser rivalnya.

Sunderland berhasil memperbaiki posisinya di Liga Primer Inggris. Kemenangan 1-0 atas Bolton Wanderers di Stadium of Light, Sabtu (18/12), menjadikan Sunderland naik ke peringkat enam. Dengan poin 27, mereka menggeser rivalnya Bolton yang terpaksa turun ke posisi tujuh.

Danny Welbeck has grabbed the Old Trafford lifeline thrown him by his loan move to Sunderland.

And former United striker Andy Ritchie believes the 20-year-old Mancunian’s CV acquired at the Stadium of Light will ensure he has a better fighting chance of bucking the trend at Old Trafford and establishing himself in Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad.

Not since Mark Hughes and Norman Whiteside in the 1980s have the club had a home-grown goalscoring front-man who has come from the ranks to be a long-standing senior figure.

A born-and-bred Mancunian striker is even rarer.

Ritchie himself was the last local attacker to make the breakthrough from United’s youth team to the first XI between 1977 and 1980.

Ritchie eventually fell victim to the policy of buying in the finished goalscoring article when the Reds paid Leeds a then club record fee of £350,000 for the proven strike qualities of Scottish international Joe Jordan.

But half-way through a loan spell on Wearside that has seen Welbeck score five goals in his last six appearances, Ritchie reckons his fellow Manc has been given the perfect platform to battle toe-to-toe eventually with any big money imports.

“Danny had shown flashes of brilliance and scored some tremendous goals for United last season but he just wasn’t producing it for long periods in the game,” Andy told M.E.N. Sport.

“That’s tough to achieve when you are not playing week in, week out. It is a difficulty for young players. You cannot afford to be fazed by the pressure of playing at Old Trafford for United because you might not get too many chances.

“You have to have a special aura about yourself to be able to cope. It is hard to teach that. But Danny has been given a brilliant opportunity to learn how to deal with it.

“He had a taster last season and now he has moved up a level to discover what it is like playing every match in the Premier League in front of the kind of big crowds Sunderland get.

“That is a great background to have for when he returns to United and has a go at making the grade at Old Trafford.

“He looks now like he has a better chance than ever of coming back to United for good.

“The manager has used the loan system before and seems to know just when young fringe players need to go out elsewhere and it has worked out fantastically well for Danny.

“You can play reserve team football for too long and Danny was at a stage where he needed to be tested more.

“There is so much pressure on clubs to produce right now that the time given to younger players is not afforded to the majority.

“United are better than most but there is still that constant pressure for success.

“Money talks and bringing in a ready-made player happens - especially a goalscorer. That kind of player is at a premium.

“It can be tricky to juggle opportunities for young players when you are faced with that expectation.

“Even in my day it went on. United bought Joe Jordan in when I was desperately trying to get games to make an impression.

Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed there is as much chance of him signing for Sunderland on a permanent basis as Danny Welbeck.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is in the market for a striker after Darren Bent joined Aston Villa in a controversial £24million move earlier this week.

Welbeck enjoyed a splendid first half-season on Wearside after joining on loan from Manchester United.

Even though he is currently sidelined following a minor knee operation, Welbeck has proved himself capable of being a Premier League striker and if Ferguson offered any indication of being willing to sell, Bruce would be first in the queue.

Unfortunately for the Black Cats chief, it is not going to happen.

With Michael Owen unlikely to be handed a new contract in the summer, the chances seem high that Welbeck will become Ferguson's fourth-choice front man.

'Steve has as much chance of getting me,' Ferguson told Key103, when asked about the possibility of Welbeck joining Sunderland on a permanent basis.

'It is unfortunate Danny will be out for six weeks because he was playing so well. 'He has shown fantastic form and he is only 20. 'He has a long way to go yet but the signs are good for him.'

Federasi Sepakbola Ghana (Ghana FA) dikabarkan sedang berupaya membujuk striker Danny Welbeck akan bersedia memperkuat negeri leluhurnya.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, presiden Ghana FA, mengatakan pihaknya telah berbicara dengan Welbeck, tapi pemain Manchester United (MU) itu belum mengambil keputusan.

Welbeck saat ini dipinjamkan MU ke Sunderland. Ia lahir di Manchester dari keluarga asal Ghana.

"Dia masih muda, dan kami sangat membutuhkannya. Kami memberinya waktu untuk memutuskan," ujar Nyantakyi kepada Sunderland Echo.

"Kami sangat ingin memberinya kostum tim nasional Ghana. Semoga dia tidak menolak," lanjut Nyantakyi.

Yeboah added, asisten pelatih Ghana, mengatakan dirinya mendapat tugas membujuk Welbeck agar memperkut Black Star. Sebelumnya, Yeboah juga membujuk Mario Balotelli, tapi gagal.

"Saya bicara kepada Welbeck, dan dia mengatakan sangat ingin memperkuat Ghana. Namun, masih ada beberapa hal yang harus diselesaikan," kata Yeboah.

Welbeck juga berpeluang masuk timnas Inggris, tapi sejauh ini tidak ada indikasi Fabio Capello tertarik memanggilnya.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is keen to land Manchester United youngster Danny Welbeck on loan for another season.

The 20-year-old forward, an England Under 21international, has impressed for the Black Cats after arriving on loan for the season last August.

And while Bruce does not expect United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to let the talented youngster leave Old Trafford permanently, he is hopeful of negotiating a new deal which secures his services for a further 12 months.

"I will keep at Sir Alex and maybe try to get him drunk on a bottle of wine," said Bruce.

"But if we could get him back here for another year, that may be a compromise."
Injury

Welbeck has been back at United recovering from the knee injury which has kept him out of action for the past two months.

However, the forward rejoined the Black Cats squad this week ahead of Saturday's trip to Arsenal.

"Funny how he's back for Arsenal, isn't it?" added Bruce. "Mind you, I hope he had a miserable time in Manchester."

After failing to find the net in his first 13 encounters for Sunderland, Welbeck opened his account against Chelsea in November before hitting six in nine games.

Bruce has lamented the timing of the youngster's injury after he was finally beginning to find his top form.

He said: "It was so cruel because he was playing at his peak and just starting to fulfil his potential."

According to reports Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck is set to extend his loan with Sunderland into next season.

The Daily Mail claims that United will allow an extension to his loan but not a permanent move.

The England Under-21 striker is set for his first start for a month against Liverpool on Sunday.

He has been a revelation on Wearside which will please United boss Sir Alex Ferguson in terms of his future development.

It seems Black Cats boss Steve Bruce was prepared to offer £10 million for the 20-year-old but will be happy with a loan extension and it seems Welbeck is happy with the deal too.

Danny Welbeck is enjoying his time at Sunderland, but claims to have no idea what his future will hold.

The striker is edging towards the end of a productive season-long loan spell on Wearside, with his reputation having been considerably enhanced during his time in the North East.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has already revealed that he would be happy to strike a deal which will see the 19-year-old join his ranks on a permanent basis.

Manchester United will have some say in what happens next, though, with Welbeck still their player.

It remains to be seen what Sir Alex Ferguson has planned for the youngster, with the Red Devils likely to be reluctant to see a player of such potential slip through their grasp.

Another loan switch next season is a possibility, but for now Welbeck insists his focus is locked firmly on ending the 2010/11 campaign as positively as possible.

"I am generally happy with what has happened this season and I thank Steve Bruce for that," he told The Journal.

"I have not thought about what is happening at the end of the season or heard about it. I am going to play the rest of this season then, come the end of May, I will start to decide.
Benefits

"I have benefited from playing every week at Sunderland. You could see the benefits of playing another year on loan, but there are also negatives as well.

"I'll see what happens. I've not really been thinking about it. I had a chat with Sir Alex when I went back there for treatment [on a recent hamstring injury].

"He is really happy with how the season has gone. He said a few things, but I'm not going to say what.

"Whatever happens in the future, this move to Sunderland has been great for me. I have grown more confident as player and person. I am better mentally. I know more about the Premier League and it has been a great benefit."

For now Welbeck is more concerned with getting more priceless minutes under his belt, having endured a frustrating time of late.

He has managed just one outing since his return from injury, against Arsenal, and admits he is itching to get back into the swing of things against Liverpool on Sunday.

He said: "At the start I felt a bit stiff, but I'm looking forward to playing more now. I feel good in training and happy to play. It's like a personal derby for me if I play Liverpool. I have been doing a lot in the gym, running, a few sprints.

"It was nice to be back at Arsenal, but to miss another week, in a blank week, was like being injured again. I have a few games coming up now though. We have been a bit unlucky in recent games, so to have players coming back from injury is a massive boost - that includes me."

Danny Welbeck opened the scoring for England under 21s as they demolished Denmark 4-0 in Viborg.

The United striker currently on loan at Sunderland scored a superb left-footed strike to send Stuart Pearce’s men on their way to a resounding victory. United team mate Tom Cleverley also impressed as the youngsters put in the sort of performance, we rarely see from the full England team.

There’s been much speculation as to whether Welbeck will return to Old Trafford this Summer or stay at the Stadium of Light. If he keeps scoring goals like this it’s not just Sir Alex Ferguson who should be giving him a chance but also Fabio Capello.

Seneng banget klo mbaca Welbeck sukses di masa peminjamannya tapi juga sekaligus khawatir. Jangan sampe betahnya dia malah berujung ke transfer resmi. Mbaca beberapa berita terakhir jadi makin khawatir. Mungkin dalam kondisi terkini Welbeck udah lebih bagus dibanding Macheda. Moga aja fergie bisa yakinkan dia buat bertahan di United dan cukup PKL aja di sunderland.

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has highlighted his loan spell at Sunderland as the catalyst for his call up and debut for the senior England team.

Welbeck, who played for the Under-21s against Denmark on Thursday, was brought on as a substitute by Fabio Capello during Tuesday night's thrilling 1-1 draw against Ghana to make his international bow.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has tipped Welbeck to make a big impact when he returns to Old Trafford next season but the striker, who has scored six goals on loan, was quick to recognise how playing for Sunderland has helped with his development.

He said: "I am delighted with my progress. (Winning a first cap) was invaluable in terms of my progress and I'll take that in my stride. It is nothing to sit on because I've not done anything at all yet and I'm really looking to push on and keep improving as a player.

"I'm pretty happy with the progress I've made this season and I feel being at Sunderland this season has really helped me. The manager, Steve Bruce, and coaching staff have been really terrific and I've learnt a lot."

Manchester-born Welbeck can still play for Ghana as he has not played a competitive match for England, but he was booed by the away fans when he came on to replace Ashley Young at Wembley. The 20-year-old has no regrets about his decision.

"It's a bittersweet moment," Welbeck said. "I've got love for both countries. I can't play for both. I can't make everyone happy.

"I've been playing for England at every single youth-team level so it's kind of a natural progression just moving to the seniors and I'm obviously delighted with my own progress."

Manajer Steve Bruce menegaskan ulang, akan sangat sulit bagi Sunderland untuk mempermanenkan status pemain pinjaman dari Manchester United, Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck dianggap tampil memuaskan bersama Sunderland. Dipasangkan dengan Asamoah Gyan, pemain yang baru saja memulai debut di timnas Inggris ini sudah mencetak enam gol dalam 17 penampilan di Liga Primer Inggris.

Sir Alex Ferguson ingin memanggil Welbeck pulang ke Old Trafford musim depan sehingga Bruce hanya bisa pasrah.

"Mampukah kami merekrutnya? Jujur, saya kira sangat, sangat sulit," imbuhnya kepada BBC Sport.

Danny Welbeck has revealed Sir Alex Ferguson has promised he will be given the chance to prove he can become a Manchester United regular next season.

Like many youngsters at Old Trafford, Welbeck has been forced to wait for his big break, spending the majority of his career out on loan.

But the 20-year-old will return to United after England's European Under 21 Championship campaign with an assurance he will be able to show how much he has improved.

'The manager said I'll get decent opportunities and hopefully I'll take them and progress from there,' said Welbeck, who admitted he would be forced to consider moving on if he failed to make it into Ferguson's first-team plans.

'It gets to the stage where you have to decide on your future but I'm still only 20 and looking forward to my opportunity.'

Welbeck made his United debut two months short of his 18th birthday and scored on both his Premier League and FA Cup debuts. It got even better for him when he started the 2009 Carling Cup final win over Tottenham.

But that was arguably the peak of his Old Trafford career so far and he has not played for his parent club for almost a year and a half.

Instead, he has trodden the same path as many United hopefuls before him by attempting to prove himself while on loan. And he has largely done that, both at Preston and - last season - Sunderland.

'Going on loan really benefits you,' said Welbeck, who is set to lead the line again in England's must-win European Under-21 Championship clash with the Czech Republic tomorrow.

'You learn massive amounts. It's experience you can't gain from being at United on the bench. I was playing with top strikers. Darren Bent was there at the start and then Asamoah Gyan came.

'I learnt a lot from Darren in training as well every day. It was the same with Asamoah as well and I'll always take that into my learning process.'

That process continues in Denmark, where Welbeck's bid to impress Ferguson has yielded mixed fortunes.

He scored England's only goal of the tournament so far in their scrambled 1-1 draw with Spain but missed when clean through against Ukraine. But his big problem has been a lack of support from midfield, leaving him all too often isolated up front.

'The team's not really had great possession of the ball at times so I've not really got onto the ball as much as I'd like,' he said.

'We need to get on the ball a bit more, actually take control of the game and make them chase the ball more.'

Head coach Stuart Pearce revealed yesterday his players may have been paralysed by nerves in their opening two draws against Spain and Ukraine, but not Welbeck.

'I don't see any need to be nervous,' he said ahead of the final Group B match. It's different with every player but I go into every game like I'm playing at school, looking forward to getting on the pitch.'

England's performances have been frustrating for their fans and also Pearce, who has nevertheless managed to keep his own temper in check.

Welbeck said: 'I've not seen that side yet and don't plan on seeing it either. He's cool, calm and collected, lets you know his thoughts and he's really motivational, so you really know once his words are out of his mouth, it goes into your brain and stays there.'

Never more so than when Pearce hauled Welbeck off after introducing him as a substitute against Greece early in his under-21 career almost two years ago.

Pearce said: 'I spoke to him after the game and said that when you enter the pitch for England, you have to work harder than you did.

'He's rolled his sleeves up and his work rate is sensational and he's got goals. I know Fabio's a real big fan of his.'

Indeed senior boss Fabio Capello handed Welbeck his first cap in March's friendly against Ghana.

The striker's debut came after he snubbed the chance to represent England's opponents, who jeered him mercilessly when he came off the bench at Wembley.

'I even had a few cousins in the stands and they said they were booing!' Welbeck joked. 'It was fine. We all had a little laugh at the end of the game.

'I've still got aunties and uncles back in Ghana and they were all really happy for me having made my debut for England so it was all sweet.'

The News of the World mengabarkan bahwa Welbeck menjadi bintang di Stadium of Light musim lalu dan meskipun Sir Alex Ferguson telah membawa Welbeck kembali ke Old Trafford, Bruce yakin dia akan dapat mendapatkan kembali jasa pemain timnas Inggris U-21 tersebut.

Bruce menilai Welbeck membutuhkan pertandingan dan apabila dia tetap di United maka kesempatannya akan semakin kecil mengingat banyaknya striker kelas dunia di sana.

Seperti yang diketahui, Welbeck mencetak enam gol untuk Sunderland musim lalu, dan pemain berusia 20 tahun tersebut tidak membantah adanya peluang untuk kembali ke Sunderland.

Paul Scholes is willing the 20-year-old from Longsight to take on the mantle of the local lads at United.

Salford-born but Middleton-raised Scholes hung up his boots at the end of last season and Mancunian Wes Brown has been sold this summer to Sunderland.

The Greater Manchester link was further weakened in Sir Alex Ferguson’s senior squad last February when Bury’s Gary Neville also retired.

It leaves just honorary Manc – but born in Cardiff – Ryan Giggs as the sole local established Red in the first team pool.

But England Under 21 striker Welbeck, after a season on loan at Sunderland last year, is now knocking on Fergie’s door.

And Scholes hopes the Manchester link continues.

“If anyone comes through I hope it is Danny,” Paul told M.E.N. Sport.

“As a Manchester lad, I think it would be great for the club for Danny to do it. I think that local element is always good to have. It is a big year for him. He has had a good year up at Sunderland and he has also had one or two injuries that haven't helped him.

“But he needs to push on now and stake his claim. Everyone knows the talent is there. It is up to younger lads like him to do the business and make the manager take notice.

“For someone like him it is good to be at United and watch the top forwards we have. To be able to play with and study Wayne Rooney every day in training is fantastic.

“They have to learn from him and set about competing with him.”

Welbeck has got a seven-way fight on his hands to achieve the senior status Scholes hopes for.

Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen, Javier Hernandez, Federico Macheda, Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf are all battling for Fergie’s attention.

Scholes believes the quality is there to match the famed Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Ole Solskjaer and Teddy Sheringham quartet of 1999.

“In the Treble year we had four top class forwards and it worked brilliantly,” he adds.

“But I think four is enough. We are looking good up front with the lads we have now. But I think seven strikers is too many to operate with. I think four is the perfect number for centre forwards.

“We often play one up-front in Europe so four is more than enough.”

Welbeck's education watching Rooney and Co at United's Carrington training HQ could be further enhanced with individual tuition from Scholes himself.

But his role on Fergie’s coaching team has not yet been defined.

“I had a brief five minutes with the manager at the end of the season and he said he’d like to see me at the beginning of August,” says Paul.

“I will see what he wants me to do. I will leave it up to him what he wants me to do.

“If it is something that sounds appealing to me then I will have a good go at it. You need to start somewhere and I have no ideas about coaching at all really. I have to learn all over again and, hopefully, I will pick things up.

“If I have to start somewhere where I don't really want to be then that might be it and I would have to consider something else. I will have to think about at the time.

“Six months or a year down the line I might have to do something else. I just don’t know whether I will be any good at it.

“I won’t want to continue with it if I am not any good at it. If I do something, I want to make sure I am capable of doing it and I am good at it.”

Fergie always advises players considering quitting at the end of a season to shelve the idea until after the summer when the batteries have been re-charged and they might have a different outlook on the future.

But Scholes made his decision towards the end of the campaign and announced it officially 48 hours after his final sub appearance against Barcelona in the Champions League final.

So after relaxing and spending a three week holiday in Portugal with his family has the midfielder considered a U-turn on retirement?

“I haven’t changed my mind and will not,” he replied emphatically.

“I thought it would feel weirder than it does. But I never liked this time of year anyway. I hated going on pre-season tours.

“It just feels nice at the moment. I might feel a bit different once the season starts I am not sure but I don’t think I will.

“There hasn’t been one moment when I thought I’d made a mistake. The last six months I hadn’t felt great physically. I just need to think of the way I felt and realise I
made the right decision. I knew the time was right.”

Danny Welbeck has vowed to shrug off his competition at Manchester United and force his way into Sir Alex Ferguson's first-team plans this season.

The manager has a host of striking options at his disposal, and it remains to be seen whether he will stick with last term's preferred partnership of Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez.

Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen are also battling for a place in his side, while youngsters Welbeck, Federico Macheda and Mame Biram Diouf have all recently returned to Old Trafford from loan spells.

But after starting Sunday's 3-2 Community Shield victory over Manchester City and earning a call-up to the senior England squad, 20-year-old Welbeck is confident he can make an impression on Ferguson this term.

He told the Daily Star: "My main aim is to break into the team and get a partnership going with whoever is up front.

"You can't say too much after one game, you've got to keep working hard and hopefully break into the team during the season.

"If I keep performing well, hopefully the manager will keep picking me. I'm feeling confident."

After suffering disappointment with England Under-21s at the European Championship in June, Welbeck was thrilled to be included in Fabio Capello's senior squad for this week's postponed friendly with Holland.

He added: "We didn't have the best of tournaments so I was delighted to get the call-up to the senior squad."

Things could not have gone much better for Danny Welbeck since he reported back for duty with the Reds last month.

A fine pre-season campaign, an England call-up and two impressive displays in United's win over City at Wembley and the league victory at West Brom has ensured a hugely positive start to the season for the 20-year-old, who spent last term on loan at Sunderland.

Welbeck feels he is reaping the benefits of his successful stint at the Stadium of Light and says the experience he has gained is invaluable.

"My main aim when I went to Sunderland was to get games in the Premier League. I did that and I think I handled it pretty well," Danny told ManUtd.com.

"When you're playing week in, week out it really helps your confidence. You get on a run with things which helps your form and you pick up so many little things along the way which are invaluable.

"I went through a good spell just before Christmas but unfortunately picked up an injury soon after. There are always going to be positives and negatives and I’ve learnt from both those experiences and come back to United a better person.

"I'm pretty happy with the way things have gone so far," he added. "I'm delighted to have been starting up front and I've put in a few decent performances.

"Playing games is what I want to be doing. I don’t want to be sitting on the bench. I want to be playing regularly for Manchester United. There’s nothing better than that and that's my main aim."

Playing alongside Wayne Rooney certainly won't do Welbeck's progression any harm.

"He’s one of the best strikers in the world and just playing with him means you’re always going to learn so much," continued Danny.

"Our communication levels are really good - we speak to each other all the time during games and the stuff he says really helps you."

The talk in the media already this season has been about Sir Alex's new generation of stars with Welbeck, Tom Cleverley, David De Gea, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones all tipped to lead the club to more glory for years to come following the departure of the some of United's most experienced campaigners.

Welbeck admits it's certainly an exciting squad to be part of but isn't getting carried away by the hype.

"It's pretty exciting to be part of this squad but the media's been hyping this new generation stuff up quite a bit," he said.

"We're all just training as hard as possible and trying to improve in every single game. Hopefully we can build on the start we’ve made."

Welbeck was rewarded with a second call-up to the England squad for the cancelled friendly with Holland earlier this month, and has since asserted that he is now reaping the benefits of regular first team football last year.

Bola.net - Walau dirinya berstatus sebagai pemain lokal Manchester United (MU), namun Danny Welbeck mengakui kalau dirinya siap bersaing di lini depan Setan Merah tersebut.

Danny Welbeck admitted to harbouring mixed emotions after United's 3-3 draw with FC Basel on Tuesday night.

The young striker, in his first start since picking up a hamstring injury against Arsenal in late August, scored twice to fire the Reds into an early 2-0 lead. But the Swiss visitors rallied to first equalise and then go ahead, before Ashley Young snatched a draw with a late header.

"To get two goals in the Champions League, I'm over the moon with that," Welbeck told Sky Sports. "But it's a team game and I'm disappointed.

"We went into half-time 2-0 up and Manchester United should be finishing teams off. It's just not like us [to let teams back into games].

"In the second half we didn't start as bright as we should have. They gradually worked their way into the game and pulled two goals back quickly."

Welbeck praised Basel's approach to the game and says the Reds struggled to deal with their patient, passing football.

"As good teams do, they came out and passed the ball well," he said. "They played it from the back well and we found it difficult.

"We're really disappointed with the result today. But we just have to get back into training and get on with it."

United's next outing comes on Saturday 1 October at 3pm, when Sir Alex's men welcome Norwich City to Old Trafford in the Barclays Premier League.

Welbeck, yang lahir pada 26 November 1990, pulang ke Old Trafford setelah menjalani masa pinjaman di Sunderland dengan nilai bagus. Tak heran jika kemudian ia dipercaya Sir Alex Ferguson menempati satu pos di lini depan pada beberapa laga awal Premier League.

Manchester,detiksport - Danny Welbeck merasa senang karena bisa bermain bersama Wayne Rooney. Welbeck yakin di bawah bimbingan Rooney dirinya bisa berkembang menjadi lebih baik.

Pada awal musim ini, Welbeck tampil cukup impresif bersama Manchester United dengan koleksi lima gol di semua kompetisi. Dia pun sudah mulai mengganggu posisi Javier Hernandez sebagai tandem Rooney di lini depan.

Welbeck mengaku sangat menikmati duetnya dengan Rooney. Menurutnya, nasihat dari Rooney sangat membantunya.

Pengalaman Welbeck Untuk Pemain Muda United

Bola.net - Striker Manchester United Danny Welbeck menyarankan dua pemain muda Setan Merah, Will Keane dan Paul Pogba, untuk mengikuti jejaknya bermain di klub lain dengan status pinjaman.

Karena usia yang masih muda, Keane dan Pogba masih sulit menembus skuad inti Manchester United. Pindah ke tim lain dengan status pinjaman untuk mendapat pengalaman tampil di tim senior menjadi opsi terbaik untuk keduanya.

Pogba yang masih berusia 18 tahun, bulan lalu tampil menghadapi Leeds United di putaran tiga Piala Liga yang menjadi partai debutnya di tim senior United.

"Saya masih 20 tahun dan telah sering berlatih dengan pemain-pemain seperti mereka. Saya tahu kualitas yang mereka miliki, dan andai mereka diturunkan oleh pelatih, mereka akan menunjukkan kemampuan terbaik dan tak memberi dampak negatif," terang Welbeck pada situs resmi Manchester United.

"Saya berharap pemain-pemain muda ini dapat kesempatan tampil sejak menit awal di Championship (divisi satu), seperti yang saya lakukan di Preston, dan kemudian tampil di Premier League," lanjutnya.

Musim lalu Welbeck dipinjamkan Sir Alex ke Sunderland dan menunjukkan potensi yang dimilikinya dengan mencetak enam gol dalam 26 pertandingan di liga bersama The Black Cats.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has backed his 20-year-old striker Danny Welbeck to fill Wayne Rooney's boots at Euro 2012.
Ferguson picked Welbeck ahead of Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez for the big game against Liverpool and was rewarded when the young Mancunian set up United's late equaliser for substitute Hernandez in a 1-1 draw.
The United boss, normally cautious in pushing the claims of his younger players, has made an exception with Welbeck and predicts Fabio Capello will now turn to the rangy striker following Rooney's three-match ban after his sending-off against Montenegro.
'I think Welbeck is ready for it, I really do,' said Ferguson. 'He's got a talent as good as anyone in the game for the forwards. I think he's almost certain to get his chance now. He's confident, intelligent and certainly got the technical skills. He has a great belief in himself.'

Ferguson's endorsement could be significant in Welbeck getting the nod ahead of rivals Andy Carroll, Darren Bent, Bobby Zamora and Jermaine Defoe when England play their friendly against Spain on November 12.
Capello has already said Rooney will not start the game as he explores the best way to cope without him for the group games at Euro 2012.
Welbeck's movement to lose Jamie Carragher and head on Nani's corner for Hernandez saved United from their first defeat of the season.

Ever since Rooney’s eviction from a rain-lashed field in Montenegro nine days ago, Welbeck’s star has risen higher and higher.
He started against Liverpool, a delight to those United fans who viewed the “19” on his back as a reminder to their hosts of Old Trafford’s title collection.
Capello has confirmed Welbeck will feature prominently during England’s ensuing friendlies as the coach seeks the “solution” to Rooney’s absence for the group stage in Poland and Ukraine. Only 20, Welbeck signalled his promise with a selfless 90 minutes.

Rooney was permitted only 20 minutes by Sir Alex Ferguson but these also highlighted why he must be on that plane to Krakow. Repeatedly criticised for losing his head in Podgorica, Rooney certainly used his head to rescue United.
With Liverpool laying late siege to Manchester United’s goal as the Kop bayed for a winner, Rooney produced a piece of defending that centre-halves such as Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, even old-timers like Gary Pallister and Steve Bruce, would have admired.

Charlie Adam’s back-header appeared destined for Luis Suárez and the Kop stood in expectation of their beloved Uruguayan applying the coup de grace.
But Rooney was back helping out, reading the danger brilliantly, leaping up, twisting his head and intercepting Adam’s delivery.
Whatever his frustration at not starting, and what Ferguson’s described as his “devastated” reaction to Uefa’s three-game suspension, Rooney provided some timely reminders here that he is a team player, that he is not the type to cause problems for Capello at the Euros.

Yesterday saw the mature Rooney, sacrificing himself for the collective. He remained calm while warming up, ignoring the abuse of the Liverpool fans.
“Who’s the Scouser in the wig?” was one of the most polite. As he ran along the touchline, a lion waiting to be uncaged, Rooney dashed past Liverpool fans slapping their heads to point out his issues with follicles.
As he continued his run, Rooney encountered the away support who did their bowing and “we are not worthy” salute. They chanted his name loudly when he eventually came on, proving why he is a force for club and, when available, for country.

Capello, sensibly, is waiting until the end of the season before deciding on Rooney. A striker stalked by metatarsals in the past may get struck down again, ending a national debate.
If fit, even if the ban sticks at three, he must go. His willingness to work to the manager’s grand design was seen in these 20 minutes, performing a range of roles.

He came on for Ji-Sung Park and went into the hole behind Welbeck. Within six minutes, he was on the move again, dropping further back into midfield when Javier Hernández replaced Phil Jones.
A feeling has frequently been expressed within Old Trafford that Rooney may eventually end up as a midfielder, deploying his passing prowess á la Paul Scholes. He can certainly pick a pass, releasing the ball while off-balance to Welbeck out wide after 76 minutes.

Welbeck enjoyed the improved service. For more than an hour, he had been the loneliest of lone front-runners yet he impressed with his work-rate, his relentless closing down of Jamie Carragher and company.
He’s a contrast to Rooney, possessing a far longer fuse, even proving so languid as a substitute in an England Under-21 game against Greece that Stuart Pearce took him off. Yet he has matured fast, applying himself well for club and country.

The talent is there, seen in his turning away from Lucas and Adam at one point in a dispiritingly flat first half. Welbeck was one of the first generation of United Academy products to enjoy the skills coaching of Rene Meulensteen. He has that ease on the ball that they nurture at Carrington.
“As a kid here at nine years of age, Danny was always an outstanding talent,’’ recalled Ferguson. “We had to be patient with him on the physical part because he grew very tall very quickly and he became very gangly and weak and with that he suffered quite a few injuries in the knees, simply because of growth.’’

Welbeck suffered from Osgood-Schlatter’s Disease, a knee condition that can inhibit the development of some footballing prospects.
“You see him now and he’s a massive boy, a big powerful lad and physically he’s fine,” added Ferguson.
In a half which resembled an athletics meeting at times, all running and little cunning, Welbeck put in the hard yards, echoing the diligence associated with Rooney. This was an education for the youngster, a
90-minute lesson in how to deal with tight marking.

Carragher got tight, then Martin Skrtel. Returning the compliment, Welbeck gave them little rest either. He even dived in on Carragher, forcing the veteran to take sprightly evasive action. Carragher did not complain, even offering a handshake. Players know that Welbeck is not malicious.
Amid the fray, still signs of his good touch helped him turn cul de sacs into promising avenues. He is certainly not afraid of the physical fray, fighting for the ball with Adam and Lucas before slipping it to Jones.
One of the many qualities long associated with United’s DNA, persistence, imbued Welbeck’s shift.

That determination was also seen aerially, Welbeck twice rising above Martin Kelly, even eluding Carragher to flick Nani’s corner on for Hernandez to cancel out Steven Gerrard’s free-kick.
The sadness was that no one from England was here to watch him, although Capello knows all about Welbeck.

His appearance in Podgorica, assuming the attacking responsibilities after Rooney’s sudden departure, has ended any flickering hopes that Ghana may have had of getting Welbeck to commit to them.
With Rooney out of the picture until the quarter-finals of the Euros, the spotlight will burn bright on Welbeck.

Ferguson sounded untroubled by the thought of another England bandwagon beginning to roll, believing the player has the temperament and technique to shine for his country. “I think he’s ready for it, I really do,’’ said Ferguson. “He’s got a talent as good as any forward in the English game.
“He has great belief in himself the boy, he’s a confident lad, intelligent. The tactical awareness, he’s only 20, that will develop but he’s certainly got the technical skills.”
As has Rooney. Both must be on the plane to the Euros.

The rising star of English football was just five years old when he begged an older boy who lived over the road to let him play in the games of street football that regularly took place outside their homes.
Danny Welbeck has not forgotten the part Wes Brown, then a 16-year-old Manchester United trainee, played in his football education. And Brown has not forgotten the instant impression the younger boy made.
'We didn't encourage it at first - we thought Danny could get hurt,' recalls Brown, who knew the rough nature of even the friendliest kickabout in inner-city Manchester.
'But the concern didn't last long, to be honest. Once Danny got started, you could see he was decent. He had the skills and he could look after himself.'

On Sunday, those skills learned on the streets will see Welbeck step out at Old Trafford as the only born-and-bred local in the biggest Manchester derby for nearly 40 years - and no player among the 21 different nationalities on show will be treated with greater affection by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who has finally achieved his long-time ambition of discovering a great Mancunian striker for United.
Such was Ferguson's belief in Welbeck that he kept faith in the striker even when growth spurts left him weak, gangly and injury-prone. Five goals this season and a likely place in England's Euro 2012 squad show Ferguson's long-term instincts were right, particularly as the 6ft 3in hit man was picked ahead of Wayne Rooney for last weekend's game against Liverpool at Anfield.
'Welbeck always had great ability, but he made slow progress until he went to Sunderland on loan last season. That is when he grew up, became a man,' said Ferguson.
'He had knee problems growing up but we were always willing to wait for him. He's different, rangy and long-legged. Once he gets going, he gallops quickly. He has a great future.'

It is a sentiment echoed in FA quarters, too. 'United deserve great credit. They are one of the best clubs at sticking with players like Danny when they're still physically maturing,' says head of elite development Gareth Southgate. 'And they have coupled that original patience with in-house training and successful loan periods to get to the point they are now.'
It all started for Welbeck at Markfield Avenue, a narrow, winding road of terraces and semis in the Manchester inner-city district of Longsight, an area most drive past in a hurry as they take the A6 south from the city centre towards Stockport. Its only remarkable feature is the ability to produce footballers.
At No 42, with a United-red front door, lived the Browns. Wes, now at Sunderland, played for England as a teenager and won the Champions League with United. Youngest brother Reece is currently on United's books while another sibling, Clive, still lives on the road and plays non- League football for New Mills.
On the opposite side of the street (until their house was demolished to make way for a new playground area) were the Welbecks. Victor and Elizabeth had emigrated from Ghana and passed down Christian values to their three sons, Wayne (who plays for non- League Flixton), Christopher and football-daft Danny.

'It was always the Browns and the Welbecks playing football in the streets. Wes joined in when he could,' recalls Clive Brown. 'It was a great set-up. We had two walls either side of the road as goals, and the ball hitting the kerb helped develop your control. Danny loved it all, even though he was the youngest; all he wanted to be was a striker.'
Welbeck had started training with United at the age of eight. By 12, he had moved to Trinity High secondary school but with a football career mapped out in his head, there was no danger of him going off the rails in his teenage years. Head teacher David Ainsworth said: 'Danny was a quiet, polite boy. I never remember him getting into any type of trouble.
'He got 12 GCSEs and if he'd wanted to push himself academically, he would have been university material.
'He was modest about his football, too. I remember one lady PE teacher coming to me spitting feathers on one occasion, complaining that Danny was refusing to sprint 200metres in a Games lesson.

'I asked Danny why he'd refused and he said he was playing Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup semi-final that night. He just hadn't like to talk about it in front of the class. 'A few of us went to watch him at Old Trafford for the game and he scored the winning goal. He came into school the next day as usual and never mentioned it. I said something in assembly just so he'd get a round of applause because we were proud of him.
'He wouldn't milk it at all. I once went over with a ball and asked him to show me a few tricks, but he just shook his head very politely.'
By the end of his time at Trinity, Welbeck would occasionally be away to play in overseas tournaments with United and England. But he still turned out for the school team when he could.
Coach Darren Westmoreland recalls a cup game against Manchester Academy. 'They equalised with two minutes to go and, from kick-off, Danny went up the other end and scored the winner within 20 seconds.
'His attitude was great. He was used to working with the top coaches at Manchester United but if I asked him to play a certain way for the good of our team, he'd listen and do it.

'We keep in touch. I recently asked him to sign a shirt for a friend of mine - he came into school to return it personally. When I looked at it, he'd got the whole United squad to sign it.'
For all Welbeck's skill, his progress between 14 and 18 was hampered by growth spurts that left him 'weak and gangly', according to Ferguson, and caused him injury problems.
He was just 14 when he made his England Under-16 debut, in a 4-0 win over a Wales team that included Aaron Ramsey. Manager Kenny Swain recalls: 'Danny wasn't easy on the eye, he was un-coordinated in his running style, but you could see he had great potential for the future.
'The only way I could describe it is that he seemed at one with the ball. He had this way of rolling his foot over it with his front two studs, it was something you'd see a Spanish player do, not an English one.
'After six or seven minutes of his debut, I just thought to myself, "Bloody hell, he'll do for me". Later, he went to the Under-17 World Cup and he and Victor Moses were the most potent strikeforce in the competition.'
At United, Welbeck made his debut at 17 but got fewer headlines than another teen sensation, Federico Macheda, who scored a goal against Aston Villa that famously helped United win the title.

Behind the scenes, however, Ferguson always expected Welbeck to emerge as the main man.
Successful loan spells at Preston and Sunderland have built confidence and this season he has established himself at Old Trafford. He was picked ahead of Wayne Rooney at Liverpool last weekend and most expect him to replace him again for the group games at Euro 2012.
The last word has to go to Brown, the neighbour who has known Welbeck all his life and also made the journey from Markfield Avenue to Manchester United, three miles in distance but a different planet in other respects.
'Danny has the size, the power and the strength. He has the skill and the technical ability. He has the willingness to learn. He has it all, actually,' says Brown.
Not the best news for City. Welcome to Manchester, Mr Mancini.

Danny Welbeck was back on his old school-field of dreams this week, an artificial strip of green shoehorned into Manchester city centre.

It has always been football for the son of Victor and Elizabeth Welbeck, two Ghanaian social workers who settled in Longsight. Danny joined Manchester United’s academy at eight and was soon gracing England age-group sides while shining at Trinity Church of England High School in Hulme.

Welbeck smiled at the memory of the annual classroom career debate.
“The teacher would say: ‘Not everybody makes it as a footballer, so what do you want to be?’ I’d say: ‘A footballer’. The teacher would say: ‘But not everybody makes it. So what do you want to be?’ I’d say: ‘A footballer.’ Every year that happened! Nothing was going to get in the way of me being a footballer.”

Returning to Trinity on Thursday, Welbeck watched Manchester United’s Foundation coaches lay on a lively training session for pupils all wearing new strip donated by the Premier League Players’ Kit Scheme.

Trinity has produced athletes and X-Factor contestants but the sight of Welbeck with a new kit-bag sparked complete hysteria. Pupils tore down corridors, sprinting outside to scream his name and admire his sleek car. One of their own was living the dream. “I don’t think of myself as a big star. I’m really lucky that my occupation is something I love. The young kids here shouldn’t see me as a million miles away. They can go on to do the same thing if they have the right attitude. I had the right attitude to make it as a footballer.”

His old PE teacher, Darren Westmoreland, nodded. “I saw Danny’s natural talent the moment he arrived here,’’ said Westmoreland. “His balance, vision and skill were leaps and bounds above other students. The biggest thing that stood out was his attitude, his willingness to listen and learn, his hard work and determination. Danny was always very humble, never gloated about what he was doing with United and England. He was always keen to represent school. No ego. Always polite.’’

Such principles were drilled into him by his parents. “They taught me to respect my elders, to respect everyone,’’ Welbeck said. “They taught me to do everything to the best of my ability, whether schoolwork or football and see how far I can get in life. Mum and dad worked so hard to help me and my brothers grow up as good people. They were both social workers, working with kids with learning disabilities. They are just great people. It means so much to me to make them proud."

Welbeck’s maturing as man and front man was also shaped by United’s academy. “They produce very respectful young men. All the players who have come through the academy, you don’t see any big-headed players.’’ Senior players such as Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville helped. “They were top class when I was coming through, always there to give invaluable advice, let you know to keep your feet on the floor.

“My role model has been Ryan Giggs ever since I was a young kid. I love the way he plays. I was eight when he scored that goal against Arsenal [in the 1999 FA Cup semi-final]. I just thought ‘Wow! I want to be Ryan Giggs.’ When I first trained with him, I was in disbelief. Then I got the chance to play with him. There’s nothing better than playing alongside your role models.

“Ryan Giggs has that great desire. He still wants to win every single training match. Even if it’s possession, he wants his team to have the ball most. To see that is really encouraging for the young players to know how much it still means to them. Every United player just wants to get better and better. Wazza [Wayne Rooney] has a great desire.

“It’s infectious. I see him giving his all and it makes me want to give my all as well. He’s a wonderful talent. I’m training and playing with world-class players.”

The tone is set by Sir Alex Ferguson. “The manager has still got this hunger to carry on winning, not just trophies, but every single game. The manager has just passed his 25th anniversary as manager of Manchester United. That’s an incredible achievement. When he speaks to me it’s so motivational that I just want to get out there and play.’’

Ferguson believes in Welbeck, even fielding the 20 year-old on his own up front at Anfield. “Being a lone striker is tough, but I do my best for the team. The manager knows what he’s doing. Whoever he picks, he’s going for three points. The manager never settles for anything less. It’s important to be versatile. Growing up through the Academy, I was taught to play left wing, upf ront, behind the striker or on the right wing.” His favourite role? “I’d like to play up front preferably with a strike partner.”

His education continues at Carrington. “Michael Owen’s always helpful. I can’t stop learning off him. I watch how he hangs on the shoulder of the last defender. I watch his movement in behind defenders. He’s a great striker. I do remember his goal against Argentina at France 98. I was sitting in the living room with my whole family and saw him take that touch with the outside of his foot and just go! Just go! kayaknya sih semalem yang gue liat pas dia abis nyetak gol emang agak kena cedera deh dia meringis tiduran gitu dan yang gue tau selebrasi gol gak ada yang meringis kayak gitu.
perkembangan cepat bagi welbeck setelah musim lalu di loan ke Sunderland (kalo gak salah agak agak lupa) dan bisa main bagus.
moga cedera ringan dan next match vs Arsenal dia bisa main lagi amin

Iya, Danny Welbeck memang dipinjamkan ke Sunderland dibawah asuhan Steve Bruce kala itu :)

MANCHESTER, KOMPAS.com — Manajemen Manchester United dikabarkan kesal kepada salah satu penyerangnya, Danny Welbeck. Pasalnya, meskipun MU sudah menawarkan kenaikan gaji yang berkisar 45.000 hingga 50.000 poundsterling (Rp 600 juta-Rp 700 juta) per pekan, pemain berusia 21 tahun itu kurang puas dan menuntut MU menggajinya sebesar 60.000 poundsterling (sekitar Rp 830 juta) per pekan.

Seperti dilaporkan Daily Mail, setelah melihat performa Welbeck musim ini, MU sepakat untuk menaikkan gaji pemain mudanya itu. Gaji yang ditawarkan itu pun dinilai realistis karena sejumlah pemain muda MU lainnya menerima gaji yang sama, yakni Phil Jones dan Chris Smalling yang menerima gaji sebesar 50.000 poundsterling dan Tom Claverly sebesar 40.000 poundsterling.

Musim ini, Welbeck menjadi salah satu kunci sukses MU di Premier League. Pemain yang musim lalu dipinjamkan ke Sunderland itu telah menyumbangkan delapan gol bagi "Setan Merah". Torehan itulah yang mengakibatkan dirinya menginginkan gaji lebih tinggi. Bahkan, ia diyakini akan menuntut lebih jika mampu bersinar bersama tim nasional Inggris pada Piala Eropa 2012 mendatang.

Meski demikian, manajemen MU masih menganggap tuntutan tersebut tidak realistis untuk ukuran pemain muda. Mereka menilai Welbeck saat ini belum memberikan kontribusi yang cukup besar bagi "Setan Merah".

Sebelumnya, Sportmail juga sempat melansir, persoalan gaji Welbeck ini bukanlah yang pertama kali. Musim lalu, Sunderland hampir membatalkan niat mereka untuk meminjam Welbeck karena dirinya juga meminta bonus gaji lebih besar kepada manajemen tim asuhan Martin O'Neill tersebut.
