21. RAFAEL

Birthdate: 09 Jul 1990
Birthplace: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Position: Right back
Appearances: 28
Goals: 1
Joined United: 01 Jul 2008
United Debut: 17 Aug 2008 v Newcastle (H)
International: Brazil

Rafael was born in Petropolis, Rio de Janeiro, and is very much a modern full-back; he loves to bombard down the right flank - but he's not all just Brazilian flair, he's made of tough stuff.

Rafael, who like his twin brother Fabio is a Brazilian youth international, was a somewhat surprise inclusion in the Reds' starting line-up at Peterborough on 4 August 2008 in Barry Fry's testimonial match. Talk about taking your chance when it comes. Sir Alex described the 18-year-old's performance as "a sensation".

Finally, it was the end of one long journey from his former Brazilian club
Fluminense, and the start of a new one with United.

What made Rafael's debut all the more startling was that he hadn't played for over a year. The Reds had been waiting for international clearance on the pair's transfer from Brazil, so they had been unable to play for United during that time and, in fact, didn't play any regular competitive football.

You would never have guessed it. Rafael was tearing up and down the right touchline - perhaps exerting 12 months of frustration - throwing himself into tackles and getting forward to aid United's attacks in equal measure.
"It was a real eye opener for us," said a beaming Sir Alex. "He hadn't played for a year but he's played a full 90 minutes today. You know what football is like. Sometimes it turns up some star, a little nugget maybe. On the evidence of tonight I think we've got a good player here."

Both brothers were spotted by Les Kershaw, then Academy Manager, in the summer of 2005 while playing for Fluminense in a Hong Kong youth tournament.

The patience shown to wait for this chance with United suggests that Rafael will be undaunted by the challenges ahead, and his ten-minute cameo on his competitive debut
against Newcastle appeared to back up that claim, as did his first goal in a red shirt - a stunning last-minute volley in the defeat at Arsenal in November 2008.

He quickly began stringing together top-level performances, displacing fit-again club captain Gary Neville and England international Wes Brown at various stages of the campaign. Rafael has coped with high pressure matches with a calm which belies his tender years, indicating that a very bright future awaits this young man.

Sir Alex Ferguson clearly sees the Brazilian as a big part of his future plans, and he handed Rafael a two-year contract extension before the defender had even completed his first season in England. “Everyone at the club has been very impressed and excited by his first year as a professional," said the United manager, before adding: "His enthusiasm and the adventurous way he plays is typical of a Manchester United player."

Rafael ended his debut season with a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, and a place on the bench in the Champions League final, just a year after watching from the stands in Moscow.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Former Manchester United Youth Coach Considers Rafael da Silva A Right-Sided Giggs

Eric Harrison believes Ferguson is right to have faith in his youth...
5 Aug 2009 15:15:23 - Goal.com

http://i.media.goal.com/g/42163_news.jpg

Former Manchester United youth coach Eric Harrison has spoken out regarding some of the club's top young talent, including Rafael da Silva, who he believes could become a right-sided version of Ryan Giggs.

Promising Manchester United youths such as Federico Macheda, Fabio da Silva and Rafael, are on the cusp of further first-team treatment next term, and Harrison believes Sir Alex Ferguson is right to maintain the faith in the fledglings coming through.

Harrison has earmarked Macheda as a player capable of making a big impact, while Rafael, he feels, should be groomed to be a right-sided winger.

Harrison explained to The Manchester Evening News, "Federico Macheda will make a big impact. You only have to look at him to see that he has got bags of bottle.

"He'll take to the Premier League like a duck to water. And when I look at Rafael de Silva I see a young Ryan Giggs. He's so graceful when he's running with the ball at his feet.

"I see him more one day in the Aaron Lennon role rather than an orthodox full-back because he's almost unstoppable when he starts running at defenders."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gimana menurut pendapat temen-temen? klo menurutku sih Rafael lebih baik jadi bek sayap coz dia punya kemampuan bertahan (meski blom bagus-bagus amat) dan naluri menyerang yang bagus. Ya seperti Maicon dan Dani Alves dah... Tinggal moles kemampuan bertahannya aja ntar MU bakalan punya bek sayap terbaik di dunia,he...

Rafael yang Salah, Fabio yang Dikartu
Kris Fathoni W - detiksport

Reuters

Manchester United appeal for Fabio caution to be corrected after referee Chris Foy books wrong twin brother at Barnsley

Manchester United are confident they can overturn a caution awarded against full-back Fabio during Tuesday's 2-0 Carling Cup fourth-round win over Barnsley - because referee Chris Foy booked the wrong twin.

Foy booked Fabio for a foul on Barnsley substitute Jamal Campbell-Ryce much to the bewilderment of United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who spotted the referee's error immediately.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/10/29/article-1223785-06FC26D5000005DC-298_224x423.jpghttp://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/10/29/article-1223785-048E189A000005DC-306_224x423.jpg

Spot the difference: Fabio (L) was booked against Barnsley but it should have been his identical twin brother Rafael, who had committed the foul, in the book

It was in fact Rafael who had committed the offence and should have received the booking, but the Old Trafford outfit insist the decision should be reversed with the identical twin set to be punished instead.

'We are in discussions with the FA over this matter,' confirmed a United spokesman.

'We have pointed out that the referee made a mistake on the night and we obviously want it to be corrected.

'We will be asking for further advice on how best to rectify the situation.'

We love Rafael for…
1. Assisting Wayne Rooney’s goal.
2. Celebrating the assist as though he’d scored a goal himself.
3. Scoring a goal himself.
4. Dashing over to his brother to share the glory with him.
5. Getting stuck in whenever given the opportunity.

One of his best games in a United shirt. Well done, lad.

Rooney full of praise for Man Utd pal Rafael after Wigan win
-tribalfootball.com-

Wayne Rooney hailed the performance of Manchester United fullback Rafael da Silva in last night's 5-0 thrashing of Wigan Athletic.

Both Rooney and Rafael were on the scoresheet in the comfortable win.

Rooney reserved special praise for United's youngest goalscorer on the night, who also set him up for the opener: "It was a great ball from Rafael and I thought he was brilliant throughout. He's so sharp against opposition wingers and going forward he's always a threat. He's a big plus when he's fit."

Fergie: Da Silvas First Choice In Five Years

http://therepublikofmancunia.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/dasilvasfergie.jpg

After Rafael’s impressive display against Wigan last week, as well Fabio being one of the few to give a good account of himself against Leeds, Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed the two Brazilian teenagers are likely to be our first choice full-backs in five years time.

“Rafael was outstanding against Wigan and showed fantastic energy and desire,” said Ferguson. “We’ve always thought highly of Rafael and his brother. You couldn’t split them in looks or ability – they’re equally good and it’s impossible to tell the difference without seeing the numbers on their shorts! Patrice Evra is a terrific example for them, but then again you can’t set Brazilians any targets. There’s every possibility they’ll be our first-choice full-backs in five years.”

Rafael will learn from Bellamy tussle - Albiston

RAFAEL da Silva should look upon his derby encounter with Craig Bellamy as a vital part of his education.

Former United full-back Arthur Albiston is confident the 19-year-old Brazilian will store the experience away and learn from it.

Rafael was downcast after referee Mike Dean penalised him in the key 40th minute tussle that gave City the leg up back into Tuesday's Carling Cup semi final at Eastlands.

The teenager and the Blues' wily 30-year-old front-man went shoulder-to-shoulder in the race that led to City's penalty.

Rafael has already overcome one Carling Cup setback this term after being sent off for a professional foul at Old Trafford against Wolves in September.

And Albiston has no doubts he will bounce back again.

"Rafa will put the incident behind him. He is a great talent and his ability is second to none. This is all part of the growing up process at Old Trafford," Albiston told M.E.N. Sport.

"You have to overcome adversity at United and he will. Incidents like Tuesday are highlighted because of the enormity of the game and because it is United. He will be getting used to that kind of exposure and scrutiny.

"Rafa is no slouch. He is quick, probably quicker than Craig Bellamy. But Bellamy is experienced and he is also a striker who wants to score goals.

"Hats off to Craig because he leant into Rafa and used all his experience. Then it is down to how the referee sees it.

"But the problem all started with the fantastic ball behind Rafael and that is something he will have to become very aware of. If you have a combination of Rafa's pace and Gary Neville's experience it would be perfect to look after the City forward.

"I think the manager will play Rafa up against Bellamy again next week at Old Trafford because he has the speed to match him or better him.

"But if he looks at the incident again and people like Neville and Evra have a little word about that killer ball then he should be okay and it will be something he will look back on as a key part of his education."

Rafael da Silva will learn from Ronaldinho runaround, says Man United's Alex Ferguson
Sir Alex Ferguson claims Manchester United defender Rafael da Silva will become a better player after being tormented by the brilliance of Ronaldinho during the 3-2 victory against AC Milan on Tuesday.

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01580/ronaldinho_1580124c.jpg

Although former Barcelona star Ronaldinho tired in the closing stages of Milan’s defeat, his first-half performance provided a reminder of just why Ferguson attempted to sign the Brazilian playmaker from Paris St Germain to replace David Beckham in 2003.

Ronaldinho’s third minute goal was followed by a number of tricks and skills that left Rafael, 19, bewildered and exposed by his fellow countryman.

But despite his turbulent display, Ferguson insists that Rafael will quickly fulfil his potential and learn from his evening against Ronaldinho.

Ferguson said: “Ronaldinho has always had a great talent. His game dropped away for a year or so, but he is back to his best now and he was a handful for a young player like Rafael.

“The reason I played him was quite simple, though. Namely that we have invested in a great future with him and we were not going to stop the rewards of that because we were playing AC Milan.

“He has to learn and, against Ronaldinho, he will have quickly discovered that this is the real world.

“He made some mistakes, but he won’t make them next season. He will eradicate those mistakes because the boy is an outstanding talent.

Rafael: Suatu Kehormatan Kawal Ronaldinho
Achmad Firdaus - Okezone

http://i.okezone.com/content/2010/03/10/261/310871/0IJRgzdeM2.jpg-pvc7b866b29b58cb60

Derita MU, Pelajaran Rafael

http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2010/04/08/0455128p.jpg

"Kartu merah (kuning kedua) membuat (posisi kami semakin sulit).

(SKY)

IMO ,

Raf hanya " tidak beruntung " malam itu ...
KK pertama memang wajar dia dpt , KK kedua bisa " diperdebatkan " terutama melihat pemain2 BM yg mengerubungi wasit

despite that ... dia salah satu pemain terbaik malam itu ...

so stand up Raf ... is not ur fault and like other superstar , you will learn how to climb to top

Patrice Evra tipping Manchester United starlet Rafael to bounce back from Bayern nightmare

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/04/15/article-0-090A8328000005DC-717_468x315.jpg

Patrice Evra is convinced fellow Manchester United full-back Rafael will emerge stronger for his red card torment against Bayern Munich last week.

Most pundits have pointed to the youngster's dismissal early in the second half as the pivotal moment in a Champions League quarter-final United appeared to have under control.

As the Red Devils subsequently failed to overcome Blackburn at Ewood Park to slip four points adrift of Premier League leaders Chelsea, it appears as though it will be a seminal moment in United's entire campaign.

Yet Evra is confident the Old Trafford outfit will gain a major benefit in the long run, as he is convinced Rafael is destined for great things.

'It is a good experience for Rafael and he will definitely be a better player because of what happened,' said Evra.

'When he gets some experience he will be different class. I know Rafael's mentality. I am sure about him. He has a lot of hunger.

'This was just part of the development process. He will go on to become one of the best right-backs Manchester United have ever had.'

Evra was older and more experienced when he arrived at United in a £5million deal from Monaco in January 2005.

Yet even he struggled at first, which is why he feels confident about Rafael.

'When I came here I was 24. I was already playing with the French national team and had reached the final of the Champions League with Monaco,' said Evra. 'But the first six months were difficult.

'It was a big slap in my face. But I had enough experience and character to do much better and show why Manchester United bought me from Monaco.'

Not that he views the young Brazilian as the bad guy. Given the way Bayern used all their experience to pressurise the referee into sending Rafael off, Evra feels the dismissal could have happened to anyone.

'Rafa did something that maybe, with more experience, he would not do,' reflected Evra. 'But I am not certain. Someone might make the same mistake at 32.

'The point is, you need to make mistakes to become a big player. You learn. You have to be mentally strong because anyone can do something stupid.'

Next season’s stars : Rafael
-thebusbyway.com-

http://thebusbyway.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Rafael3-202x300.jpg

This is the first in a series of looks at young players in our team that could make a name for themselves next season. Having lost our crown to Chelsea, next season will be important and I expect some of our younger players to step up to the plate and meet the challenge of getting our crown back head on.

The first player I will consider is Rafael, a player I have looked at frequently and with good reason.

The young Brazilian has had an eventful season, from shutting down and shutting out one of the world’s best players in Franck Ribery to getting sent off for a cynical foul in the same game on the same player, that game showed us the best and worst of the right back.

He has steadily been getting experience under his belt and may soon be ready to cement the right back spot as his own. Gary Neville is entering what could be his last season and with Wes Brown continually suffering injuries, Rafael’s stiffest opposition comes from John O’Shea.

Rafael has shown he can defend as well as get forward but there are chinks in his armour that are mainly due to inexperience, case in point being the goal we conceded against Spurs at Old Trafford where he moved away from his position on the post, the exact place Ledley King placed his header.

Like Fabio he has a habit of getting caught short and then pulling down the player that has got the better of him but with experience and better positional sense these things will happen less and less and having a class defender like Gary Neville to learn from will see these things ironed out sooner rather than later so I’m not majorly worried.

Mentally he has shown he can stand up in big games and was starring in the 2nd leg of the Champions League tie against Bayern until he got sent off. He didn’t look over awed by the occasion and even had the confidence the burst forward and take a shot himself when he had Rooney and others in the box.

To me he has shown he has the components it’s just a case of smoothing the rough edges.

Next season will be a big one for Rafael, I don’t expect him to cement his place straight away especially with John O’Shea back in contention but when he gets his chance he will grab it and could secure the position permanently.

Rafael deserves Brazil call
27/07/2010 10:25, Report by Ben Hibbs
Young United right-back Rafael was given his first international call-up to the Brazil squad this week, and his elevation to the Selecao marks a fully-warranted milestone in his burgeoning career.

Brazil face USA in New Jersey next month, and Rafael is getting good practice on American soil against American opponents during United’s US tour before meeting up with his national team colleagues on 10 August. Two days later he could make his debut in the famous yellow jersey.

New Brazil coach Mano Menezes, who replaced Dunga after his side’s failed World Cup campaign, has named just four players from the squad that went to South Africa. In doing so, he is sending out a clear message: impress me. No Kaka. No Luis Fabiano. No Julio Cesar. The only players retained are Daniel Alves, Ramires, Thiago Silva and Robinho. In come 11 potential debutants, of which Rafael is one.

I interviewed Rafael last season after he'd just faced Ronaldinho against AC Milan at the San Siro. And we spoke about what a dream it would be for him to play for his country at the next World Cup in Brazil, on home soild in front of millions of adoring fans. Not that a path into the team hasn’t been swept clear by Menezes' latest selection. Maicon was one of Brazil’s few outstanding performers in South Africa in Rafael’s position, while Daniel Alves is an accomplished full-back. Rafael has his work cut out.

Since moving to United in 2008, Rafael has shown that he has bags of potential – he’s just six games shy of 50 United appearances and he only waved goodbye to his teens on 9 July. But speak to a handful of keen United observers and one or more will no doubt use the word ‘raw’ to describe his abilities.

He isn’t scared of throwing himself into tackles, putting his body on the line for the United cause – but in doing so he sometimes induces a collective gasp at Old Trafford. One slight misjudgement and he could enter the referee's book, or worse, be given his marching orders. On that note, people might point to his red card against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals last season. “That red card killed us,” Sir Alex said at the time. But he added: “Rafael was having a marvellous game and it was a tragedy for him.”

You can castigate someone for inexperience. And from that performance at Old Trafford against Bayern, we should take his contribution to a rip-roaring first-half United display, not a single display of immaturity – even then he was unfortunate to be sent for an early bath.

His rough edges will become smoothed; his feisty sliding tackles will become well-timed interceptions; his mistakes will make him stronger.

Personally, I like Rafael’s raw aggression. He’s fearless. And that’s a characteristic you can’t instil in somebody. But you can hone it. Like Rooney. Like Keane (sometimes). It’s either there or it isn’t. In many ways, that’s what makes Rafael so suited to United, and particularly the type of player Sir Alex goes for; an undeniably strong personality, combining aggression (used positively) with technical ability.

There’s just one more point to raise. Now that Benitez has stopped weaving his magic at Anfield, are we safe to adopt Rafa – the name our Rafael is known by to his team-mates and the coaches? I’ll leave that one with you. It might be too soon. But call him what you like, our Rafa is here to stay for a long time. I’m confident that, unlike his namesake, this call up to Brazil shows that his career is only on the rise.

Bingung juga... kan masih ada dani alves. tapi bagus lah... moga bisa mendukung perkembangan Rafael plus memotivasi fabio biar makin semangat meningkatkan performanya.

Jadi kepikiran juga... gimana klo seandainya Rafael mbela brazil trus fabio mbela portugal ya? dulu sempet ada kabar Queiroz mo mbujuk rafel dan fabio buat membela portugal. trus klo ternyata fabio mengiyakan dan rafael dah punya caps di brazil (otomatis nggak bisa bela portugal) jadi unik juga,he...

Manchester United youngster Rafael looks to learn from Maicon after replacing Samba star in Brazil squad
-dailymail.co.uk-

Manchester United full-back Rafael has revealed his pride after being handed a call-up to the Brazil squad for the first time.

New boss Mano Menezes has included the young defender in his 23 for the friendly against the USA on August 10 after axing all but Dani Alves, Ramires, Thiago Silva and Manchester City flop Robinho from the squad that limped out of the World Cup quarter-finals to Holland.

Even Maicon, widely considered the finest right back in the world and a star performer in South Africa, joined the likes of Kaka, Luis Fabiano and Julio Cesar in missing out, but that has played into Rafael's hands.

Fine future : United defender Rafael (left) in action during pre-season

And although the 20-year-old is now looking forward to a long international career, he recognises that in future he faces fierce competition for a starting spot from stars such as Maicon, but hopes to learn from the likes of Inter Milan's marauding star.

'I'm so happy to have been called up to the national team and very proud,' Rafael told the club's official website.

'It's my first call and I hope there will be more to come in the future. The coach called me before he announced the squad and asked me how I felt and how my training was going. I was so happy when he told me I was going to be in the squad.'

He added: 'Maicon plays in my position and he is a great player who I can learn a lot from.

'I am so lucky to play for the best team in the world, Manchester United. Now to play for my country will be a dream come true.'

EXCLUSIVE Interview With Rafael : United Dream, City’s Cash and Brazil Call-Up
-therepublikofmancunia.com-

http://therepublikofmancunia.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Rafael-shout.jpg

Since being spotting by Manchester United scouts when they were 15, with the da Silva twins have gone from strength to strength, Rafael in particularly. He’s close to half a century of appearances for the first team despite only being 20-years-old. With Gary Neville, Wes Brown and even John O’Shea occupying his preferred right-back position, this season Rafael should see his opportunity to push himself in to the first XI. His quality isn’t just recognised in Manchester though, with him being called up to the Brazil squad for the first time too.

Rafael talks to us about his hopes for this season, his brother’s career and the strength of the Premiership.

Republik of Mancunia: Sir Alex Ferguson says he does not need to sign more players this summer. Do you think the current squad is strong enough to recapture the title?

Rafael: We have an amazing group of players and if there is anybody who knows what he’s doing, then of course it is Sir Alex. I think back to last season, when we were badly damaged by so many injuries which in many matches forced us to field players in unfamiliar positions. Yet we still managed to finish second in the Premiership and made it to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Our story could have been different if we had more luck injuries and that gives me great faith in the players we have at the club.

RoM: The Premier League or the Champions League. Which competition do you believe United have the best chance of winning this season?

R: I think it’s natural for a club the size of Manchester United to aim high every season, so it is a difficult question to answer. The players have to do our part on the pitch but with this group, we can certainly think we are capable of going far in every competition. This does not change at such a club as United.

RoM: You have played many more first team games at Old Trafford than your twin brother Fabio. Do you agree that this could be a watershed season for him at United?

R: Of course, it is an important season and I am very glad he stayed at United. He’s a great players and I believe that this year he will show people that like me he is a fighter who will never give up. His big problem has been his injuries and the fact that Patrice Evra has been playing so well at left back. There have been more opportunities for me at right back. Some people in Brazil thought that it was quite ironic that I was called up for the national team first before Fabio, because they certainly need more left-backs than right-backs these days.

RoM: As a United player, how does it feel watching neighbours Manchester City spending millions and millions on new players?

R: Whatever happens at other clubs is not really any of our business. It is no surprise that City are again spending a lot of money. But there isn’t a single day that I don’t pinch myself to make sure I am not dreaming about playing for Manchester United. I came straight from the youth academy at Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro and now I am playing at Old Trafford. This is all I think of, it is my dream.

RoM: But do you believe City can be genuine challengers to United and Chelsea for the title or should they merely aim for a top four finish and Champions League qualification?

R: They certainly have a good squad, it is strong and they have quality players. I do not think anyone could argue with that. But things in football do not always follow in reality what happens on paper. There are at least six teams fighting for four places and we will respect all of our rivals this season.

RoM: Do you agree with the argument that Italy and Spain have caught up with Premier League in terms of quality? Is the recent English club dominance in Europe under threat after no Premier League side made it past the quarter-finals?

R: Let us not forget that last season was the first time in years that no English team made it to at least the semi-finals, so I believe it is too soon to talk of a crisis. It is an exaggeration. The Premier League is not the only big league in Europe and does not simply have a right to succeed in Europe. Also, the Champions League is an incredibly tough tournament to win and the fact no side has been able to defend the trophy since the competition began tells its own story. I am confident we and the other English teams will do well again this season.”

RoM: That Brazil call-up by Mano Menezes was for the friendly against the USA. Do you believe that you can challenge Maicon and Dani Alves for a place in the side?

R: I am not in a hurry to challenge those guys because they are world class and I am at the beginning of my career and it would be foolish to think I can come into the squad and not need time to adapt to such new surroundings. It was my first call up and I believe the manager wanted to test me for the Olympic team. London 2012 is a more immediate objective for me, especially because Brazil have never won the gold medal at the Games. Of course, I want to carve out my own space in the Brazil team in the future but at this time and I see both Maicon and Dani Alves as inspirations and not rivals. They both waited for their chances with Brazil and climbed up the ranks. I intend to do the same.

RoM: Do you believe you can reach the same level they have achieved in their international careers?

R: I believe a right back gets to the peak of his powers around the age of 27, which means I have seven years to work on my game then. I have learned a lot in the last two seasons at Manchester United and I am happy with the progress I have made so far. But I cannot fool myself and think I am yet at the same level as guys like Maicon and Dani Alves.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson can't tell one Da Silva from another!

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/09/16/article-1312525-0B35F2C4000005DC-651_224x406.jpg http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2010/09/16/article-1312525-0B300BD5000005DC-603_224x406.jpg

Sir Alex Ferguson normally likes his players to settle down and get married, but the Manchester United manager might have wished Rafael da Silva would be an exception to the rule.

The Brazilian right back returned from the summer break a married man, taking away the Ferguson’s ability to tell apart Rafael from his identical twin brother Fabio.

The 20-year-olds may have been in England for more than two years - and have known the United boss twice as long - but the pair are still easily mixed up.

'When we came to the club, Fabio had just got married and wore a ring,’ Rafael told Globoesporte. ‘So our boss just had to look at the left hand to tell us apart. It was quite funny.

‘But now we are both married and wear rings. This has made his life more difficult and occasionally he still gets it wrong. We laugh, but he takes it well.’

Fabio was handed a rare start at left back in Tuesday’s goalless Champions League draw with Rangers, while suspended Rafael watched from the stands.

Both were distraught to see Antonio Valencia suffer a freak ankle injury that could keep the winger out for the rest of the season.

Fabio said: ‘I was very sad about his injury, he is one of mine and Rafael’s best friends at the club, and an excellent player.

‘I will go with my brother to visit him at the hospital, but I wish him a speedy recovery. He’s a great guy, fun and always helpful.’

Rafael: I've learned many lessons
-manutd.com-

http://picsrv.manutd.com/?fif=/manu/img_10_36911_5770.jpg&obj=iip,1.0&wid=480&hei=179&rgn=0.025454545454545455,0.06225165562913907,0.872 7272727272727,0.2370860927152318&cvt=jpeg

Brazilian defender Rafael made his 50th United appearance against Bursaspor on Wednesday night. It was the 20-year-old's first European outing at Old Trafford since last season's fateful quarter-final second leg, when he was sent off against Bayern Munich and the Reds exited the competition.

Rafael spoke exclusively to us before the Bursaspor game and was open and honest about that disappointment... and his love for crisps.

How do you feel looking back on that game against Bayern Munich?
Well, I’ve learnt a lot. I was probably a little silly to give away my first yellow card [for a kick at Mark van Bommel] but the second one [a tug on Franck Ribery's shirt]… I never thought the referee would show me one for that. But the lessons I learned were important – not just in football but in my life. Now I have to put that behind me and focus on the future.

What was the mood like in the dressing room after the match?
In my head I was sure everyone was looking at me as if to say, ‘What have you done?’. But Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes came over straight away, spoke to me and offered support. Not just them, either – I remember Jonny Evans, Gibbo, Rio… they were all supportive. A lot of players comforted me and gave me encouragement. That’s what this club is like.

Was that one of the most difficult nights you’ve endured in football?
It was the worst experience I’ve had in all my life. That night I learnt that in football you can go from heaven to hell in a matter of minutes. I was playing really well in the first half and then… well, you know what happened. If I hadn’t have been sent off we almost certainly would have won the match and my life would be much easier now. It would have taken a lot of weight off my shoulders. Now I feel like I have to prove myself all over again and show everybody I’m capable of being a Manchester United player.

Surely United fans know you're a very capable player…
I know, I know, but deep down I need to prove to the supporters – and, more importantly, to myself – that I can play for this great club. It’s made me very determined to succeed this season.

How tough do you expect it to be in Turkey?
I didn’t play in Besiktas last season but my brother Fabio did. He told me the fans over there are mad – they scream and shout throughout the whole 90 minutes. In those sorts of atmospheres you’d usually say a draw wouldn’t be a bad result but here at United we always go out to win.

Your often lauded for your attacking attributes. Do you feel your defensive qualities go unnoticed?
No, I don’t think so. If I’m needed to attack then I’ll get forward, but if I’m needed to do a job in defence then I’ll get back. In the past I probably pushed up a lot more than I do now. However, I’ve learned a lot playing here in England and I know you can’t always do that. I’m defending a lot more nowadays than I used to. When I go out on the pitch I feel like a defender – my job is to stop the other team scoring.

Do you think this could be the season you establish yourself as first-choice right back?
I always want to be the manager’s first choice and I’ll work hard to make that happen. When I arrived at the club I was very young and I knew I wouldn’t play all the time. It’s not that I think I shouldn’t ever be on the bench now, but I’m always hoping to play in every game. You have to be prepared to take your chance and it’s only the manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, who chooses who will take to the field. If he doesn’t choose you then you have to work even harder the next week. Patience is important.

You've now made 50 United appearances. How many more would you like to make?
I don’t want to put a limit on it but I’d like to think I could play 500 games for Manchester United. I came to England to work hard and play football and I want to do that for as long as possible. Every match I play is a dream that I fulfil in life.

Finally, you’ve been in Manchester almost three years. Do you feel a bit English now?
Well, I love crisps! I’ve always loved crisps and here in England there are loads of varieties to enjoy. Does that make me English? [laughs] Seriously though, the people here are so kind and helpful. They make me feel at home; I’m really happy in Manchester.

asal jangan tipu aja kaya Rooney yg buat saya depresi skarang...baru2 kmaren dia bilang waktu seumuran Scholes or Giggs dia pengen tetep main buat United,, eh eh eh,,, malah skarang nolak extend kontrak n mo pindah???

jangan jangan jangan ditiru anak muda !!! :hajar1:

ho oh setuju bro,
matengin rafael aja dah bwt bek kanan, daripada pake o'shea terus
btw, brown pa kbr ya? bener2 cedera, ato jangan2 punya masalah yg sama kek Wazza, jd ga dimainin, tp Gaffer bilang cedera, mudah2n sih kagak.

bwt fabio, kayak nya patut d coba jg tuh bwt winger kiri, secara giggsy cedera.
susah emang klo jd cadangan evra, hahah

Rafael: Cuma Ribut Biasa
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detiksport

Ferguson backs Rafael to stop hotshot Bale

http://m.gmgrd.co.uk/res/39.$plit/C_71_article_1405415_image_list_image_list_item_0_ image.jpg?15%2F01%2F2011%2013%3A44%3A23%3A322

SIR Alex Ferguson is confident his “brilliant” young gun Rafael da Silva has the maturity to shackle Premier League hot property Gareth Bale in Sunday's title showdown.

Fourth-placed Tottenham host table-topping United with the Welsh winger’s stunning emergence the main factor in the Londoners gatecrashing the race for English football’s top prize.

But while Bale has been earning plaudits across Europe, the Reds’ Brazilian full-back has been making steady progress himself.

And when the two go head-to-head, Sir Alex believes his team has the right man at right-back to meet the threat posed by the flying Welshman.

“His form this season has been absolutely brilliant,” said Fergie. “He’s only 20, just a young boy. But he has learned. His concentration levels have improved.”

The South American has leap-frogged experienced campaigners Gary Neville, Wes Brown and John O’Shea to become Ferguson’s recognised number two.

While captain Neville plays out his swansong season, Brown attempts to win back favour and O’Shea returns from injury, Rafael has stormed forward in his education to make 16 starts so far this season.

His senior rivals, who have each performed the role in the Reds’ three Champions League final appearances – in 1999 (Neville), 2008 (Brown) and 2009 (O’Shea) – have largely been downgraded to fringe performers.

Rafael has fought through his bitter Euro experiences from last term.

His red card in the quarter-finals against Bayern Munich ultimately cost United in their bid for a third successive European Cup final, but he has bounced back to be a strong contender for the PFA Young Player of the Year award this season.

He will be up against Bale in the junior category, but such is the 21-year-old Spurs winger’s impact this term, that he is a hot favourite to land the senior individual prizes as well.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has transformed the left-back into a barnstorming winger with a goal threat and dangerous cross.

His form has already crucified one Brazilian this season when he took Inter Milan’s Champions League holder Maicon apart in Italy and at White Hart Lane.

Last spring Rafael suffered on the European stage, but now the United boss believes he has stepped up a level and will be ready for the Bale challenge in the capital tomorrow.

“The thing about Rafael is that he’s not making any rash decisions,” added Sir Alex.

“He was quite an impulsive young boy last season. The game against AC Milan away, for instance, he over-ran the ball in the middle of the pitch, they got their second goal and made a game of it.

“In the second leg against Bayern Munich he had a slight tug on the player and got sent off.”

But having learned from his lows Rafael United are now reaping the rewards from their 2005 find from Fluminense.

“That’s the kind of thing we invest in,” said Sir Alex. “We invest in the future.

“We are getting that return now. You don’t expect young defenders to be consistent but he has been this season, really consistent.”

Stopping Bale is set to be key to the Reds continuing their unbeaten run this season.

But the Welshman could have been a team-mate of Rafael’s at Old Trafford.

At the same time in ‘05 the Reds were picking up on the da Silva twins in a youth tournament in Hong Kong, Bale was emerging as one to watch at Southampton.

Spurs won the pursuit and a £5m initial payment saw him move to London in 2007.

This season he has been the stand-out player in the top flight.

“Gareth Bale went to Spurs as a left-back,” said Fergie.

“But Harry Redknapp is using this position for him. He has tremendous speed. He is a great crosser of the ball. He has made an exciting contribution this season,” added the United manager.

“But it is not just him. They have Luka Modric, Rafael van der Vaart, Aaron Lennon. They have some exciting players.

“Van der Vaart has given them a goal ratio that Harry’s not had from many of his midfield players really. But the best contribution has been without doubt Bale, who’s got 11 goals, a really good return for a wide player.

“We tried to sign Bale as a 16 or 17-year-old boy. Southampton didn’t accept out offer. I think they must have alerted Tottenham. I don’t know the full circumstances. You try to get the best deal you can. We made a good offer but they turned it down.”

Manchester United’s Rafael Da Silva- transformation from “Cheeky” Brazilian to the best right back in the Premier League
15 January 2011 by Chris Winterburn

http://images.teamtalk.com/08/12/800x600/Rafael-Da-Silva_1603065.jpg

It was 2007 when it was first reported that Manchester United Football Club had agreed a deal with Brazilian outfit Fluiminese to sign The Da Silva twins Rafael and Fabio. For most involved in English football they were unknown quantities with only avid football manager fans knowing who they were and how good they could be. They couldn’t join the squad until January 2008 however due to Premier League regulations on signing Brazilians under the age of 18.

In recent years Manchester United had been struggling, having not won the premier league for 2 years and had even been knocked out of the champions league in the group stages which was completely unacceptable for a team of United’s stature. Gary Neville was no longer the player he once was and backup in John O Shea and Wes Brown could surely only be a stop gap if United were to progress forward once again. Lead by Ronaldo and Rooney Manchester United won the premier league in the 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 season but still had no natural right back with the quality necessary.

Rafael made his first start for Manchester United in a Carling cup 3rd round game at Old Trafford against Middlesbrough which is unfortunately remembered for the horror injury suffered by Rodrigo Possebon which effectively ended his career at the theatre of dreams. From early on In that game Rafael impressed fans straight off with the energy and flamboyancy he brought to the right hand side. As the season progressed Rafael was given more and more first team opportunities and rewarded Sir Alex Ferguson by scoring a simply sublime volley in injury time at the Emirates which may not have affected the result but convinced many fans of his attacking prowess as well as defensive.

Early on in his Manchester United career it became apparent that Rafael was a lot more confident with the attacking side of his game than defensive with him often getting caught after pushing too far forward or jumping into a tackle and being exposed by a clever turn, and this may have encouraged other coaches to play him on the right side of midfield but Ferguson persevered in playing Rafael at right back and this paid off when at the end of the 2008/2009 season Rafael was Nominated for the PFA young player of the year award.

Rafael’s twin brother Fabio who while they were in Brazil was often considered to be the better footballer out of the two had received limited first team opportunities due to injury and the consistent standard of performance from French left back Patrice Evra, however in April 2009 the two twins started their first game together against Everton in the FA cup semi final at the new Wembley. The game and result were both poor from United fans perspective but Fabio and Rafael were the solitary positives with their attacking runs and energy lifting the team’s performance from either side and gave fans assurances that the future would be bright with the twins.

In 2009/2010 Rafael struggled early season with injuries and loss of form, with him only playing 8 games in all competitions for the first team which compared to the previous seasons 16 appearances in all competitions was largely disappointing not only for himself but also the United fans. However later on the season when Rafael started returning for the first team it was clear he had worked on his defensive attributes with less errors being made.

April 2010 saw Manchester United entertain Bundesliga giants Bayern München in the second leg of the UEFA Champions league quarter finals. United were 3-0 up inside the first half with Rafael creating a lovely move to put Darron Gibson through inside 3 minutes and looked to be cruising into the semi finals off the competitions. However two key incidents in the first half turned the game on its head, Rafaels 18th minute booking for a professional foul on Mark Van Bommel earned him a yellow card which even the most biased of United fans could not argue about, and then Ivica Olic scoring a slightly fortunate goal with great individual persistance right on half time changed the complexion of the tie completely. The second half saw Bayern control much more of the ball and in the 50th minute Rafael was perceived to have fouled Ribery although the first foul actually was against Rafael, and was subsequently sent off. Dejected, distraught and most of all disappointed would be the words to describe Rafaels emotions whilst walking down the tunnel, and this sending off all but signified the end of his season and he wouldnt reach the levels of performance that fans had come to expect.

The start of the 2010/2011 season saw Manchester United not strengthen their first team squad in the summer due to this Many fans were sceptical about the teams chances of regaining the Premier League. Uniteds start to the season was inconsistent ton say the least with the side dropping points from winning positions in all of their away games. Rafael was now a regular starter and from the first few games of the season regular visitors to Old Trafford could see Rafael had vastly improved his defensive game, with less diving into tackles and more attention given to tracking back. A perfect example of the new Rafael was on the 30th October 2010 against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford where the young brazillian was given the task of shackling Welsh Wing Wizard Gareth Bale who had been in a brilliant run of form with some stunning performances which culminated in a hat trick against albeit a Mourinho less Inter Milan at the San Siro. For the 64 minutes Rafael was on the pitch Gareth Bale was simply outclassed, Rafael did what Maicon failed to do and just not dive in and force Bale wide which culminated in the Welshman creating next to no chances for spurs and ultimately made their play very central which suited United’s experienced defensive partnership of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic right down to the ground.

Since that game Rafael has simply gone from strength to strength and is starting nearly every game, the defensive mistakes lapses in concentration which were common upon his arrival in English football seemed to be gone from his game. Manchester United’s unbeaten season so far has been in no small part due to the return of Rio Ferdinand to the squad and the performances of Rafael who is now demonstrating the same confidence in his defensive abilities as in his attacking ones. Rafael’s transformation from a cheeky Brazillian to a top Premier League wingback is due to hard work and exceptional management from Sir Alex Ferguson, Rafaels newfound consistency, defensive confidence and sensible play is what has made him one of the first names on Sir Alex’s team sheet.

5. Penetrasi,Dribble dan Ke"tengilan" dia tadi malam luar biasa, sempat menipu beberapa pemain spurs termasuk Bale disalah satu penetrasinya ke pertahanan Spurs...

Well done rafael... :)

Sanksi Tambahan Untuk Rafael?

Rafael Da Silva dipastikan mendapat sanksi skorsing satu laga menyusul kartu merah yang diterimanya kala Manchester United menaham imbang Tottenham Hotspur dinihari tadi.

Rafael accepts FA charge
MEN - January 18, 2011

Manchester United full-back Rafael has accepted a Football Association charge of improper conduct for his actions after he was sent off in his club's 0-0 draw with Tottenham on Sunday, the FA have confirmed.

The 20-year-old was sent off for two bookable offences by referee Mike Dean. But the official also took a dim view of the youngster's conduct and feels the remonstrations which followed his decision are worthy of further action.

Rafael, in accepting the charge, has admitted he was in the wrong.

However, he has requested a personal hearing, which will be on Friday, when he will get the chance to present his side of the story.

A statement on the FA website read: "Rafael Da Silva has today accepted an FA charge of improper conduct.

"The charge relates to his conduct towards match official Mike Dean during United's fixture with Tottenham Hotspur on January 16.

"Rafael has requested a personal hearing, which will take place before an Independent Regulatory Commission on Friday January 21."

United will definitely be without Rafael for Saturday's Barclays Premier League encounter with Birmingham at Old Trafford.

Should the disciplinary panel feel the defender's conduct to be worthy of further punishment, he could also sit out next Tuesday's trip to Blackpool.

A more likely scenario would be a fine, although it is not beyond the realms of possibility Rafael may receive an even more lenient penalty and walk away with only a warning about his future conduct.

It is certain to be pointed out that neither manager felt the defender deserved the additional booking for a second half foul on Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

Sir Alex Ferguson left nobody in any doubt about his feelings, even though he stopped short of publicly criticising Dean, with whom he has a chequered past.

"It's not worth discussing because everyone can see that" said Ferguson in TV interviews immediately after the game.

"It's out of my bounds now, thank God."

Opposite number Harry Redknapp described the red card as "harsh".

"It was like Zola Budd and Mary Decker when they collided at the Olympic games," he said.

"I have accepted the charge because what I did was wrong," Rafael said.

"It happened because I was so frustrated at being sent off in such an important game.

"I apologise for my behaviour."

"He is a terrific talent, he has been for some time"

Posted on:20 January 2011 - 13:04

Manchester United legend Paddy Crerand has lauded Rafael Da Silva as “a terrific talent” and has urged the FA to be lenient with him, when the youngster attends his personal hearing this Friday to explain his sending off against Tottenham Hotspur.

The 20-year-old has accepted his improper conduct charge following his dismissal at White Hart Lane and his subsequent reaction to it, but Crerand believes it was merely the naivety of youth and over exuberance.

The former Old Trafford enforcer believes the precocious young Brazilian is already a fantastic prospect for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, and is confident the fullbacks impetuous streak is merely a sign of his inexperience.

Crerand told Manchester United’s official website: “He (Rafael) is a terrific talent - he has been for some time, not just this season,

“But he’s a young kid and – what’s the term you would use? – he can be over-exuberant at times, which you expect of a young player.

“To me, if you don’t have that when you’re young, and when you’re a footballer, I think there’s something wrong with you!

“The thing is, he’ll learn to deal with that as he gets older.

“As he becomes more experienced and learns from the players around him, he’ll be to deal with these situations much better.

“So I hope the FA aren't too hard on him.”

Crerand: Go easy on Rafael

Rafael will attend a personal hearing at the Football Association on Friday, hoping to explain his reaction to being sent off against Tottenham Hotspur which landed him with an improper conduct charge. But ex-Red Paddy Crerand hopes the FA will be lenient with the 20 year-old.

The Brazilian youngster was dismissed at White Hart Lane after what is almost universally accepted as a somewhat harsh second yellow card. But Rafael has since apologised for expressing his frustration on the field. He told us: “I’ve accepted the charge because what I did was wrong. It happened because I was so frustrated at being sent off in such an important game. I apologise for my behaviour.”

But Crerand, no stranger to displaying a fiery side to his game as a player, says Rafael’s age, inexperience and passion for the game should be taken into consideration.

“He’s a young kid and it’s natural that he’d react in the heat of the moment, especially when he feels he’s been unfairly sent off,” Crerand told ManUtd.com. “Of course you’re going to react. We all go to football matches - at White Hart Lane there were 35,000 people there - and every time something happens on the pitch, the crowd reacts. Players are only human, they’re going to react as well. They’re no different to fans. A wrong and a right, you’re going to react to it. That’s part of football and it should be taken into consideration.”

Rafael’s footballing abilities are in no doubt; part of the reason he has excelled in the Barclays Premier League is because he combines the traditional qualities of Brazilian and English styles. And Crerand feels his combative qualities should be honed, encouraged even, not stubbed out completely.

“He is a terrific talent - he has been for some time, not just this season,” he adds. “But he’s a young kid and – what’s the term you would use? – he can be over-exuberant at times, which you expect of a young player. To me, if you don’t have that when you’re young, and when you’re a footballer, I think there’s something wrong with you! The thing is, he’ll learn to deal with that as he gets older. As he becomes more experienced and learns from the players around him, he’ll be to deal with these situations much better. So I hope the FA aren't too hard on him.”

Denda Rp 115 juta buat Rafael Da Silva
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detiksport

He's BACK

Giggs hails Rafael progress
Brazilian full-back has been impressing United veteran

http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/1533/rafaeld.jpg

Ryan Giggs reckons Manchester United team-mate Rafael will be a top player if he continues his recent progress.

The Brazilian full-back is available again for Tuesday night's trip to Blackpool after serving a one-match ban.

The 20-year-old was forced to apologise for his behaviour after being sent off at Tottenham last week, incurring an £8,000 fine for confronting referee Mike Dean.

Rafael's temperament and discipline was questioned after making the first-team breakthrough at Old Trafford.

But Giggs feels the youngster has learned from his mistakes, hailing his new-found maturity and saying the red card at Tottenham was merely unfortunate.

"Rafael has come on in leaps and bounds over the last few months," he said. "I have seen a massive improvement, not only in the way he plays but within him as a person

"I come up against him in a lot of training sessions because we play in opposite positions and I have seen the maturity develop over the last three or four months.

"If he keeps developing he is going to be a brilliant player."

Rafael's recent form means he is now being seen as a long-term successor to Gary Neville at right-back and Giggs is confident he has the hunger to succeed.

"You can't teach that, the enthusiasm Rafael brings to the game when he makes those forward runs and dribbles past people," said the United veteran.

"Players rely on that appetite. He was really unlucky to get sent off at Tottenham but when you are young you do make little mistakes.

"All you hope is that the individuals concerned learn from them and get better."

The same enterprise has been shown by Blackpool following their unexpected promotion last season as they have not only defied the odds but done so in style.

"They have been a breath of fresh air this season because they have gone out and attacked teams," said Giggs.

"They have the mindset that they will try and score goals, even if it means conceding a few. There has been so many exciting games involving Blackpool, which is a credit to them.

"You can see that they are playing with freedom," added the United winger. "They respect the teams they are playing against but they think they can beat them.

"That is a great thing to have. I am sure it will be the same when they are facing us.

Cedera Kepala, Rafael Absen Di Akhir Pekan

Nev: Rafael can take my place

Gary Neville is backing Rafael to be his long-term successor in United's defence.

Neville announced his retirement last week after an illustrious career spanning two decades. After breaking into the team in the mid '90s, the former England international became his generation's best right-back. But Neville feels United have already found the man to fill his boots.

"He’s more than capable of going on to become United’s right-back for many, many years," Neville told ManUtd.com. "His performances in the last six months in particular have been brilliant. He’s matured and really come of age. I remember when I was young defender you need that time to mature and get experience.

"Rafael’s always had ability - he gets to the ball quickly, he’s aggressive, he defends his position well, he’s tough, courageous, good on the ball and provides energy in attack, but he’s really developed in the last six months with games and experience. He has a great attitude too."

Such has been Rafael's progress this season, Neville feels the Reds have a stable back four. "We haven’t had a consistent right-back in the last couple of years," he adds. "I’ve been around and Wes and Sheasy have played some games as well as Rafael, but in the last four or five months we’ve had a consistent performer in that position. Now you can say we’ve got a first-choice back four for the first time in a few years with Rafael, Rio, Vida and Patrice, who are all quality players. That’s important to a team."

United - A Silva Lining?

Called up to play a role that they`d not possibly contemplated playing, our Brazilian twins more than did themselves justice.

Fabio and Rafael didn`t look out of place playing in a midfield quartet and the fact that Rafael scored his first goal for United, a goal that set us on our way, would have been added bonus to both Sir Alex and Rafael.

Speaking afterwards, Sir Alex played tribute to the twins whilst also offering a few more thoughts on a semi-final date, explaining,

"The twins have so much energy and enthusiasm, I`m absolutely delighted for them."

"We`re in the semi-final and semi-finals are always important for any club."

"We have won the FA Cup more times than anyone and it`s a good part of our history."

"I`m not always in favour of playing the semi-finals at Wembley, but we want to make sure we don`t miss it."

"It was difficult to pick a team with Tuesday`s Champions League game against Marseille in mind, but we tried to balance it."

If we do draw Bolton or Manchester City in a semi-final, anyone else reckon the game should be played in the north-west or is Wembley mandatory for all?

Rafael Bisa Turun Lawan Chelsea

http://www.footballfancast.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/rafael_da_silva.jpg

'The Gunners' sendiri baru akan turun hari Minggu kontra Blackpool.

Rafael fit to face Chelsea
09/04/2011 18:50, Report by Nick Coppack

http://www.manutd.com/~/media/053E4840199D44478630497C60423127.ashx?h=359&la=ar-SA&w=240&rgn=166,31,490,517

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Rafael da Silva should be fit to face Chelsea on Tuesday.

The Manchester United defender was stretchered off with a knee injury in the Reds’ Champions League first-leg victory at Stamford Bridge last Wednesday, immediately casting doubt on his involvement in the return leg at Old Trafford.

The young Brazilian did manage to limp unassisted onto the United team bus that evening, but the Reds still sent the 20-year-old for a precautionary scan the following day.

At his press conference on Friday morning, Sir Alex revealed there had been “no bruising or ligament damage to his knee” and was confident the right-back would be fit to line up against Chelsea on Tuesday.

There was a similar diagnosis after the Reds’ 2-0 win against Fulham on Saturday.

“Rafael should be okay for Tuesday,” he revealed, while also acknowledging the return of a number of other players.

“Wes Brown’s back, Antonio Valencia’s back… John O’Shea’s been out with a hamstring injury and he’s come through [the Fulham game] well. Players are coming back and that gives us a heck of a boost.”

The boss reserved special mention for winger Antonio Valencia, who again shone in Saturday’s 2-0 win.

“The man’s a marvellous footballer,” Sir Alex said. “I think we chose the right time to take him off today, to keep him fresh for Chelsea. He’ll have an important role on Tuesday.”

Rafael doubtful for United

Brazilian full-back Rafael looks like being Manchester United's only serious doubt ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old was forced off with a knee injury during last week's first leg, which ruled him out of Saturday's Premier League victory over Fulham.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson had stated the problem was merely bruising rather than ligament damage, a fact confirmed by his presence on a side pitch at United's Carrington training complex on Monday morning.

However, as the defender was restricted to running rather than ball work with the rest of the group, whether he will be included in Ferguson's side on Tuesday remains open to question, especially as both John O'Shea and Wes Brown are available to play at right-back.

With the exception of Scotland skipper Darren Fletcher, who has been laid low by a virus, the remainder of Ferguson's first-team squad were training.
That included Rio Ferdinand, who also missed Saturday's game after returning from a calf injury at Stamford Bridge, and Wayne Rooney who was suspended.
However, Rooney is available on Tuesday as United look to protect the one goal lead given to them by the England international last week and book a semi-final place almost certainly against German challengers Schalke.

Cuma Rafael yang Meragukan di Kubu MU
Jelang MU vs Chelsea
Selasa, 12/04/2011 06:59 WIB

http://images.detik.com/content/2011/04/12/1033/Rafael-Getty285.jpg

Rafael: I always speak in the plural form

http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv189/zudomiriku/zudo%20II/1396837_medium.jpg

Despite Brazil’s reputation as a prolific exporter of footballing talent, cases of players leaving the country even before making their debuts in the professional game remain rare. Rarer still are those that move directly into the first-team squads at a club of Manchester United's stature.

Yet that was exactly the case with Brazilian twins Rafael and Fabio da Silva, who were plucked from the youth ranks of Rio de Janeiro outfit Fluminense. FIFA.com caught up with the gifted siblings to find out how things were going under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

“We came here when we were very young, so it’s normal that we’ve only started to get more opportunities now,” said Rafael, quickly answering on behalf of himself and his brother. “It’s funny isn’t it? I’m used to always speaking in the plural form. Even though we do have different experiences here and there, we go through so much together that it can get confusing at times.”

Those guys are monsters. But what can I do? I just need to keep playing my football for Manchester United and who knows, maybe I’ll be able to overtake at least one of those two.
Rafael on the quest to earn a place in the Brazil squad at the expense of Maicon or Daniel Alves

Not content with being side by side from birth, Rafael and Fabio shot to prominence together as youngsters at Flu, were both picked for Brazil’s U-17 squad and both defended their country at the 2007 edition of the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. Seeming to match each other stride for stride, the pair then earned a switch to the Red Devils and made the move to England in July 2008, though their rates of progress since have been somewhat different.

With Rafael brought into the United squad with a view to succeeding veteran right-back Gary Neville, who has now hung up his boots, left-back Fabio has had found his path blocked by a man still at the peak of his powers: Patrice Evra. Indeed, it was less than two years ago that the France international was voted the best player in his position by his fellow professionals, when earning a spot in the 2009 edition of the FIFA/FIFPro World XI.

“It’s been a slow process, but we knew that’s the way it’d be," said Rafael. "And Ferguson is great at that: he knows exactly how much time to give each player out on the pitch.”

The United No21 admits that having initially simply savoured every first-team appearance, he is now determined to play in as many big games as possible, such as tonight's UEFA Champions League quarter-final, first leg against Chelsea.

“Of course when a game like this comes around you still get butterflies in your stomach," he conceded. "That never changes and it can even do you good. But I’m full of confidence at the moment. I want to play in every game, and especially ones like Champions League matches and English derbies.”

Though Rafael has benefitted directly from the denouement of Neville’s glittering career on the right of United’s back four, winning a spot in the senior Brazil side is another matter. Barring his way are the last two players to claim the right-back spot in the FIFA/FIFPro World XI: Barcelona’s Daniel Alves (2009) and Inter Milan’s Maicon (2010).

“Everyone is always saying that to me, and the worst thing is it’s true!” Rafael revealed, laughing. “Those guys are monsters. But what can I do? I just need to keep playing my football for Manchester United and who knows, maybe I’ll be able to overtake at least one of those two.”

We want to win titles here in Manchester, become Olympic champions in London and play in the 2014 World Cup.
Fabio on his and Rafael's ambitions

Even so, Rafael’s emergence at Old Trafford has not gone unnoticed by Mano Menezes, who handed the player a maiden call-up for the July 2010 friendly against USA, in what was the coach's first match at the Brazil reins. Fabio, by contrast, was struggling to get even a few minutes on the pitch for United at the time, a situation that triggered a serious rethink.

“I arrived here at the age of 17 and was happy just being in the squad at a great club like this, and to be second-choice behind a player like Evra,” said the left-sided member of the duo, who are now 20. “But when I saw my brother getting called up to A Seleção, despite having Daniel Alves and Maicon as competition, I thought: ‘I want to play’.

“I looked around me and I saw that I’d let myself get comfortable. I was getting older and was content to be in the same situation as when I’d arrived. That’s when I said to myself, 'Now’s the time. I’ve been here for the last three and a half years, just training with these class players, and now I want to play'. I’ve got a different mentality now and scoring my first goal (on 26 February against Wigan Athletic, followed two weeks later by another against Arsenal) helped me get that clear.”

And as the interview concluded, it was Fabio's turn to speak for both twins when outlining their shared objectives for the next phase of their careers: "We want to play in the important games, win titles here in Manchester, become Olympic champions in London (in 2012) and play in the 2014 World Cup.”

Rafael returns for Red Devils

http://images.teamtalk.com/11/02/402x210/Rafael_2561052.jpg

Brazilian defender Rafael has returned to the Manchester United squad for Saturday's Premier League clash with Everton.

Rafael is in contention to face Everton at Old Trafford after injuring his hamstring in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final defeat of Chelsea.

It is good news for United given they tackle German outfit Schalke in the semi-final next week, knowing Scotland skipper Darren Fletcher might be back for the decisive second leg on May 4.

Fletcher has been absent for almost seven weeks with a virus but has now returned to training and Ferguson expects his countryman to be available within a matter of days.

"Darren is back training now," he said. "He has done a good week and might be available in 10 days' time.

"Rafael is back in the squad on Saturday and we will see what Dimitar Berbatov is like because he has a slight groin strain."

In theory, Saturday represents one of the easier fixtures of the season. Everton have not won a league game at Old Trafford since 1992, during which time they have only managed a couple of draws.

However, after a difficult start to the season, David Moyes' side are top of the form table and even retain an outside chance of landing a Europa League spot, although that would depend on Manchester City finishing outside the top four.

"Everton have done exceptionally well," said Ferguson, whose side blew a two-goal lead in stoppage time at Goodison Park in September when the Toffeemen grabbed a 3-3 draw.

"David Moyes has had to cope with a mountain of injuries over the last few weeks but they have still churned out the results.

"It is never going to be easy against Everton. It is a local derby of sorts.

"But our home record is fantastic and so is our performance level."

Although United dropped two more points on the road at Newcastle on Tuesday, immediately after the disappointment of losing their high-profile FA Cup semi-final to Manchester City, United have failed to win just once on home soil this season, when they let a two-goal lead slip against West Brom in October.

With the only two sides who could deny them a record 19th league title still to play - Arsenal at the Emirates on May 1 and Chelsea at Old Trafford seven days later - it could be argued tomorrow's result is irrelevant.

It is not a view Ferguson shares.

"If we win tomorrow, we will only have four games left and we will have a six point lead," he said.

"That is the way I am looking at it. I am not looking beyond that."

Man Utd fullback Rafael hopes he and Fabio never separated

Manchester United fullback Rafael da Silva fears the day he can't play at the same club as twin brother Fabio.

The pair are being backed to be first-choice fullbacks for United and Brazil in the near future.

"Some day it might happen that we have to play separately," said Rafael.

"We don't want it to happen, of course. But these things happen in football. We always want to play together but we are prepared for it." Let's hope it's not any time soon."

[QUOTE=VaDLi;323168]Man Utd fullback Rafael hopes he and Fabio never separated

Well...sprtinya mereka b'dua besar kemungkinan akan berpisah.Cz Rafael mainnya jauh lebih ciamik drpd Fabio kembarannya. Rafael bagus overlapping,,tackling mantap,,n jago marking baik man to man mwpun zone marking.

Rafael ready to step up comeback
ESPNsoccernet - October 31, 2011

Manchester United full-back Rafael da Silva is ready to make a timely return from injury with fellow defender Chris Smalling having been ruled out for a month with a fractured foot.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is considering throwing Rafael into the reserves against Everton on Thursday for his first match since suffering a shoulder injury.

The Brazilian youngster has been out since August, when he had surgery on his shoulder, following a training ground collision at United's Carrington complex prior to the opening fixture of the season against West Brom.

Ferguson said: "Rafael has been training for over a week. It was a big operation on his shoulder and we hope we can maybe fit a game in for him - maybe the next reserve game.

"He's coming along fine, there has been no setback and he has been training every day.''

Rafael had been tipped to cement his place as United's first choice right-back this year.

Fergie warns 'fearless' Da Silva twins in bid to prevent them picking up more injuries

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/12/17/article-2075610-0F275E4300000578-649_468x358.jpg

Manchester United's Brazilian twins Rafael and Fabio da Silva have been ordered to cut out the number of 'fearless' challenges they make in order to reduce the amount of time they spend in the treatment room.

Rafael, in line to return against QPR, has played only twice this season after dislocating his shoulder in training, while Fabio has suffered a spate of injuries including his calf and shoulder since arriving at United in 2007.

He has not played since pulling a hamstring in the Carling Cup defeat against Crystal Palace and boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: 'They are strong, sturdy boys but possibly their injury record is because of the way they play.

'They are a wee bit too optimistic in the challenges they make.
'They always put their foot in attacking-wise, they don't see danger. Bryan Robson was that way.
'The two of them are terrific talents but you hope maturity eradicates all these things they have.'

Rafael: Pencapaian United Spektakuler

Rafael ready to make up for lost time after season disrupted by injury

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/02/03/article-2095878-117F5768000005DC-368_468x303.jpg

The season starts here for Manchester United's Brazilian full-back Rafael.
The 21-year-old has been restricted to just six appearances so far this term after yet more injury problems.
First he dislocated a shoulder during United's pre-season campaign, then he strained his hamstring in the Carling Cup defeat to Crystal Palace.
Finally, Rafael is fit again and eager to make up for lost time.
'In many ways it feels like it's only the beginning of the season for me,' he told United Review.

'I'm just getting started, so I'm really looking forward to playing as many games as possible and, hopefully, helping the team win another Premier League trophy.'
Rafael was on the bench on Tuesday as United overcame Stoke to join Manchester City on top of the table.
This weekend promises to be a bit more tricky as a trip to Chelsea has rarely ended productively in recent times.

Although United did win the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final on their last visit, it is 10 years since they last recorded a league triumph at Stamford Bridge.
Three points would come in very handy this time around as it would really turn the screw on City, who felt their major advantage over the second half of the campaign was through having most of their top-of-the-table clashes at home.

And if United can emerge on the Blues' coat-tails from a run of matches that also includes Liverpool and Tottenham, as Sir Alex Ferguson has demanded, Rafael believes greater experience could become a key factor.
'I know everyone says this but I believe our experience will give us the edge,' he said.

'We've won many titles before and that is so important. Other clubs don't have that advantage.
'Sometimes that comes into play when you lose a game in April or May.
'Your first reaction may be to panic but if you look at people like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, they are always calm.
'They know how to act - and know that one bad game doesn't mean it is all over.'

After being without 11 first-teamers in midweek, Ferguson hopes to have Wayne Rooney, Ashley Young and Nani back this weekend.
There is also a possibility of David de Gea being fit, although that would create an interesting selection dilemma given 21-year-old rookie Ben Amos kept a clean sheet on his Premier League debut.
