Johan Jordi Cruyff (born 9 February 1974 in Amsterdam, Netherlands) is a Dutch footballer currently playing for Valletta in the Maltese Premier League, where he also acts as the side's assistant manager.

Mainly an attacking midfielder, he could also appear as a second striker, though he played mainly as a centre back with Metalurh Donetsk. He is the son of Dutch former player and manager Johan Cruyff.

Early life
Although born in Amsterdam, Cruyff spent his early life in Spain where his father Johan was playing for Barcelona. He was allegedly named after Sant Jordi, the patron saint of Catalonia.[citation needed] In 1981, the Cruyff family returned to the Netherlands, where the player was introduced by his father in Ajax's youth ranks at the age of seven, after having watched several matches. In 1988, when Cruyff was fourteen, he followed his father back to Barcelona, as the latter had been appointed Barcelona's head coach.

Club career
Barcelona
In 1992, Jordi made his debut for Barcelona B in the Segunda División, and two years later joined the senior team during a pre-season tour in the Netherlands, where he scored hat-tricks against Groningen and De Graafschap. On 4 September 1994, his father gave him his top flight debut in, a 2–1 defeat at Sporting Gijón. On 2 November, he played against Manchester United in the Champions League, and Jordi set up the first goal for Hristo Stoichkov, as Barcelona won 4–0.

However, despite a positive start, Jordi's time at Barcelona effectively came to an end when his father was sacked by Josep Lluís Núñez. On 19 May 1996, he played his last game for the club against Celta Vigo, at the Camp Nou.

Manchester United
In August 1996, Jordi signed with Manchester United for a fee of £1.4 million. He made his club debut on 17 August, in a 3–0 win over Wimbledon, the opening fixture of the 1996–97 season, in a game noted for David Beckham's goal from his own half. Cruyff then scored on his next two appearances, helping to 2–2 draws against Everton and Blackburn Rovers. Despite missing much of the second half of the season due to a knee injury, he returned towards the end to help United clinch the Premier League title.

An ankle injury in 1998 limited the amount of appearances he made and saw him lose his place in the team. In January 1999, he returned to Spain, loaned to Celta Vigo and, as a result, missed out on Manchester United achieving their historic treble. Cruyff rejoined United for 1999–2000, and helped them win the league once again. However, he failed to establish himself as a first team regular and played his final game for the club on 14 May 2000. Despite being a member of the squad for three Premier League title wins, Cruyff only garnered one winner's medal, in 1996–97, due to his limited appearances for the club.

Later years
On leaving United, Jordi moved once again to Spain, and signed with Deportivo Alavés. With the Basque, he reached the 2001 UEFA Cup Final, an epic match against Liverpool: despite being 2–0 and then 3–1 down, Alavés embarked on a spirited comeback and Jordi's goal in the 89th minute tied the game at 4–4. However, an own goal in extra time saw Liverpool lift the cup.

Jordi continued to play for Alavés until they were relegated at the end of 2002–03. The following season he joined Espanyol, being played regularly in his only season. From 2004 to 2006, he was semi-retired after a serious knee injury, keeping fit with Barcelona B and playing in some veteran matches. Cruyff spent the 2007–08 season playing with Metalurh Donetsk, where he played mainly as a Centre back and, at the same time, entered the fashion business, helping develop the Cruyff clothing brand.

Valletta
In the summer of 2009, Cruyff signed a three-year deal as assistant-manager of Maltese side Valletta, aiding first coach Ton Caanen, while also being a player in his first season. He made his debut on 26 July 2009, in a 3-0 win in the Europa League 2009–10 first qualifying round against Keflavík. His league appearance came on 21 August 2008, in a 3–1 win over Birkirkara. He scored his first goal on 29 August 2009 in a 6–0 win against Floriana.

International career
Cruyff's performances for Barcelona persuaded coach Guus Hiddink to include him in the Netherlands team for Euro 96; subsequently, he made his debut for the national side in a 2–0 defeat against Germany, on a 24 April 1996 friendly.

Cruyff scored his only goal for the Netherlands during the final stages, on 13 June, in a 2–0 win against Switzerland at Villa Park, and would be one of only five Dutch footballers to be selected for the Dutch national team while never having played in the country's topflight, the other capped players being Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Rob Reekers, Willi Lippens and Wim Hofkens.

Additionally, Cruyff also played for Catalonia, scoring on his debut, a 5–2 win over Barcelona at the Nou Estadi de Tarragona, on 25 June 1995. He also scored for Catalonia in a 5–0 win over Lithuania on 22 December 2000, at the Camp Nou. In all, Jordi played nine times for the side, including two games against Brazil in 2002 and 2004.

Oh, ternyata dipinkamkan ke Celta Vigo yah pas paruh musim 1998-1999....makanya pas final UCL '99 kok gak ada nama Jordi d line up....malah om Giggs yang digeser ke sayap kanan pas final tersebut....

Pemain bagus tapi datang ke United d saat yang tidak tepat .... coz lini tengah United pada waktu itu sudah paten dengan Beckham - Scholes - Keane - Giggs ...

Meski banyak yang mengatakan Jordi Cruyff kurang memberikan kontribusi maksimal selama membela Manchester United, namun Jordi adalah pemain Manchester United kedua yang saya kagumi setelah Eric Cantona saat masih SMP dulu. Lagipula saat ini Jordi Cruyff sendiri kurang dikenal oleh penggemar muda Manchester United sehingga kalau tidak dibuatkan thread khusus Jordi Cruyff mungkin tidak ada yang mengingatnya kembali.... :)

Alhamdulillah ternyata masih ada yang ingat dengan Jordi Cruyff ... :D
Mereka yang ingat Jordi, pasti pernah menonton aksi Jordi pertengahan tahun 1990an dimana saat itu masih ada Eric Cantona, Garry Pallister, Andy Cole, Dennis Irwin, Karel Poborsky dan Roy Keane. Kalau Jordi tidak cidera mungkin dia ikut meraih treble. Musim 1997-1998 memang berat terutama saat itu persaingan dengan Arsenal cukup ketat. Wah jadi nostalgia MU tahun 1990an nih ...

Ini foto Johan Cruyff dan putranya, Jordi Cruyff saat masih di Barcelona. Seandainya saat itu Johan Cruyff tetap menjadi pelatih Barcelona, kemungkinan besar Jordi tetap akan bermain di Barcelona dan menjadi pemain besar. Sayangnya Johan Cruyff kembali ke Belanda sehingga Jordi pun akhirnya memutuskan bergabung ke Manchester United.

Sebenarnya permainannya cukup baik, sayang saat itu David Beckham dan Ryan Giggs sedang bersinar sementara Jordi sendiri sering cidera. Mungkin betul pendapat banyak pihak, Jordi Cruyff datang ke Old Trafford di saat yang kurang tepat. But for me, he's still legend !!!

Tadi lagi iseng-iseng browsing eh malah menemukan foto lama Jordi Cruyff saat masih membela Manchester United. Kalau dilihat dari model rambut Ryan Giggs yang masih tampak "kriwil" sepertinya foto ini diambil sekitar tahun 1996-1997. Lumayanlah untuk sekedar nostalgia ...

Jordi “Don’t call me Johan” Cruyff was, surprisingly, a multiple Premiership title winner. It’s easy to forget this of course because, well, without trying to be cruel, it’s easy to forget him. Being the son of a world famous player and constant fixture in “greatest players of all time” lists, is never an easy burden. To his credit, Jordi didn’t go down the Callum Best route of going bald and shagging around, and attempted to carve out a career for himself as a respected player in his own right. And in this regard, he was relatively successful, however the shadow of his famous father and namesake, always loomed large above him.
But it would unfair to constantly remind you of this, so I won’t mention it any further.

Jordi began his career at Barcelona under the tutelage of then manager, world famous footballer and father Johan Cruyff. He rose through the B sides and reserves before making 40 plus appearances for the first team, including an outing in the famous 4-0 rout of Manchester United in the Champions League. He was transfered to United 2 seasons later after impressing for Holland during Euro 96, where he scored his only goal for the Netherlands against Switzerland at Villa Park. He made his debut during the 3-0 victory over Wimbledon on the opening day of the 96/97 season, a game famous in football folklore as the day David Beckham announced his arrival on the big stage with a goal from the half way line. He went on to score in his next 2 outings for the Red Devils, increasing expectation on him, as well as giving journalists up and down the land several excuses to roll out comparisons with his erstwhile relative. However unfortunately for Cruyff, knee and ankle injuries restricted much of his playing time at the club and by the time he’d regained full fitness, he was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. He did however score a crucial last minute equalizer against Derby during United’s Treble winning year but was loaned out to Celta Vigo mid season and cruelly missed out on a share of the medals.

Returning to spain with Alaves and then Espanyol he enjoyed far more playing time but not as much success. He was involved in the epic 5-4 UEFA cup final loss to Liverpool with the former, and after their relegation, enjoyed a regular place in the side with the latter. However his old injuries resurfaced and forced him into semi retirement soon after. After spending time training with the Barcelona B team, harking back to his youthful days as a promising prospect, he ended up, quite bizarrely, as a center back for Ukrainian club Metalurh Donetsk.

In 2009 he entered management with an assistant manager/player role at Maltese side Valletta. He still plays there an also runs a fashion label, imaginatively named “Cruyff”.

Despite his injuries, and unflattering comparisons, Jordi was a very talented player. Eventually deciding to jettison the name Cruyff from his shirt all together around 1999, in favour of his middle name and current moniker, he was a tricky little player, with a spark of imagination that would have seem him rated substantially higher had his lineage not been so prominent and his injuries so frequent. Now 35 and at least following Callum Best in the baldness stakes, he continues to play in Malta and is presumably, still known simply as Jordi.

KE mana Jordi Cruyff, putra legenda sepak bola Johan Cruyff itu? Mantan gelandang serang Barcelona dan Manchester United ini ternyata sudah menjadi direktur klub sepak bola. Dia memimpin klub Siprus, AEK Larnaca.

Jordi mulai menanjak namanya ketika membela timnas Belanda di Piala Eropa 1996. Statusnya sebagai putra Johan Cruyff ikut mendongkrak ketenarannya.

Namun, tidak dengan kariernya. Ia gagal mengikuti kesuksesan sang ayah. Penampilannya bersama Barcelona dan MU kurang mengesankan. Dikontrak MU pada 1996 sampai 2000, dia kemudian dipinjamkan ke Celta Vigo pada 1999.

MU tak memperpanjang kontraknya dan tahun 2000 dia pindah ke Alaves. Ternyata, dia juga gagal mendongkrak namanya hingga kariernya terus terjun. Sempat membela Espanyol setahun 2003-04, dia kemudian membela tim-tim kecil seperti Matalurh Donetsk (Ukraina). Terakhir ia membela klub Malta, Valletta, pada 2009-2010, kemudian pensiun.

Ternyata, dia sudah punya karier baru. Jordi ditunjuk menjadi direktur sepak bola AEK Larnaca. Awal yang sepertinya sukses, karena Larnaca kini sementara berada di urutan ketiga Liga Siprus.

"Pelatih kepala kami, Tom Caanen, dan saya sangat puas dengan penampilan tim selama ini. Padahal, kami memiliki anggaran kecil. Tapi, kami masih bisa membangun tim yang kuat," terang Jordi kepada fifa.com.

"Kami ingin mengakhiri kompetisi dengan posisi di empat besar. Kami sekarang juga sudah lolos ke perempat final Piala Siprus. Mari, kita tunggu saja apa yang bisa diraih tim," tambah Jordi yang kini berumur 37 tahun.

Jordi juga mengatakan, "Keputusan saya untuk pergi ke Siprus memang agak aneh. Ketika saya memutuskan pensiun (Juni 2010), saya mencoba mencari karier apa yang cocok. Sekarang, saya sudah mendapatkannya dan menikmati menjadi direktur sepak bola. Ini tantangn besar buat saya. Di saat yang sama, saya bisa belajar yang akan bermanfaat di masa depan saya.

Wayne Rooney is the only world-class player in the *Manchester United team.

But that won’t stop them from lifting the Champions League trophy against Barcelona on May 28.

That is the verdict of Jordi Cruyff, who played for both clubs during his career and now works as coach at AEK Larnaca in Cyprus. Cruyff said: “For me it is a dream final with these two clubs.

“They both deserve to be at Wembley as they both have performed *consistently at a very high level.

“Barcelona and United are different from all the other clubs in the Champions League because they come out to play good football and are not focused solely on the result.’’

Jordi believes Barca are favourites to become kings of Europe because of the number of special players in their squad.

He explained: “Barca have a number of really special, world-class *players.

“Lionel Messi, obviously, but also Xavi and Iniesta. United have Wayne Rooney, one player who really stands out.

“The other 15 or 20 players are top quality players, but there is a difference between top quality and world class.

“Where United could have their chance is the fact that as a team they are stronger.

“No team in Europe is as united as Alex Ferguson’s group. United may only have Rooney in the world class, but they do not *depend on him as much as Barca depend on Messi.

“United don’t need the ball all the time to win a match.

“Don’t underestimate that, but Barcelona do need to have the ball to win their matches.

“For Man United, 40 per cent of ball possession is enough to strike and win.’’
