[CC] Man Utd vs Aston Villa - The FINAL
Minggu, 28 Februari 2010
Kick Off : 22.00 WIB
Venue : New Wembley Stadium

Manchester United vs Aston Villa

The FINAL - Bagi United, inilah kesempatan terakhir untuk membalas sakit hati atas the Villian musim ini, setelah dipermalukan dengan gol semata wayang Agbonlahor di Old Trafford, kemudian gagal membalas di Villa Park, hanya draw 1-1 dengan 10 pemain setelah Nani dapat red card, rasanya Final Carling Cup kali ini cukup pantas untuk jadi ajang penuntasan rivalitas 2 club tsb di musim kali ini.

Villa ancaman buat United nih, Rio and Vida udh bisa balik. Nani masih suspend :(

Rio Ferdinand out of Carling Cup final, in doubt for Egypt friendly

• 'He felt a twinge in his back this morning,' says manager
• Manchester United defender due to captain England next week

Rio Ferdinand will miss Sunday's Carling Cup final against Aston Villa at Wembley with a back injury, Manchester United's manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, confirmed tonight.

The defender is also likely to miss next Wednesday's England friendly against Egypt, also at Wembley, where he was due to captain his country.

Ferdinand pulled out of tonight's 3-0 Premier League victory against West Ham United after "he felt a twinge in his back" earlier in the day, Ferguson said.

"He felt a twinge in his back this morning. We did a warm-up at Carrington this morning and he felt a twinge," said the United manager.

"We couldn't risk it of course. He's had twinges before and we can't take any chances. He won't be ready for Sunday. It is unfortunate for him that he's going to miss a couple of games."

Jelang Final Piala Carling
MU Tanpa Ferdinand

sebuah kolom sederhana,,, tapi itulah kebenaran yang kita jumpai setiap partai final.... cuma ada 1 kesempatan,,, do or die!!

JOHN CAREW FIRES PENALTY WARNING AT MANCHESTER UNITED
-dailystar.co.uk-

http://images.icnetwork.co.uk/upl/sundaymercury/jul2008/7/3/06851950-03FA-CADA-75E7ECB673383C3D.jpg

GIANT John Carew has warned Manchester United goalkeeping coach Eric Steele he’ll be wasting his time if he brings his penalty iPod back to Wembley.

Steele famously prepared Ben Foster for Manchester United's shoot-out which won last year’s Carling Cup final by showing him film of Spurs’ penalty techniques on his pocket gadget.

But Aston Villa striker Carew says that won’t help United on Sunday – even though Steele will have fresh footage of the two penalties that knocked Crystal Palace out of the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

Norway star Carew blasted the first, then placed the second and said he could change his technique all over again if necessary at Wembley.

He said: “It was a bit of a badge of honour for me to take the second one, even though I’d just scored one.

“And if it comes to taking one on Sunday, I won’t be worried at all.

“I try to be a bit smart because I know that keepers are studying before games to look at the different places players put the ball.

“I know they are trying to predict what I’m doing, so I try to be unpredictable myself.

“Some I smash, some I put in the corner, but in the end it’s a choice.

“The keeper can make the right choice sometimes, but you have to make it as difficult for him as possible.

“I’ve not missed very many – certainly not any important ones – and I don’t feel the pressure.

“If I take a penalty, I think I’m going to score a goal.”

Carew, 30, reckons Villa are capable of stunning favourites United without the need for heart-stopping spot-kick drama. He added: “We don’t have to be scared.

“We’re going there to show, as we have earlier in the season when we won 1-0 at Old Trafford, that we can compete with United.

“We have just got to be aware that the possibilities are there, that we will get some chances, and enjoy the moment.

“There are not many times in life you get the chance to play in finals and be at Wembley, with 90,000 people watching.

“So you just have to enjoy it, play football and be confident, and believe we can win the game.

“When you have a team like ours which is improving in the league like we’ve been doing, getting better and better the last few years, it’s important when you get to a final that you really savour the day.

“It puts even more edge on the feeling of togetherness in the dressing room.

“You start to get the feeling that you can be a really good, and even a great, team.

“The aim is the top four, but when you reach a final you really feel you are getting somewhere.

“It means so much for the club, for the fans, for the players, for everybody.

“It’s something we can be very proud of and we can make some history. That has to be on our minds.”

Fergie hungry for more silverware

ARSENE WENGER may have described it as a "non-trophy" but Alex Ferguson insists the Carling Cup is a pot worth winning.

Not even the knowledge Sunday’s encounter with Aston Villa at Wembley will lack the raw emotion and drama of those two memorable semi-final confrontations with Manchester City last month can shake Ferguson’s determination to add another trophy to his incredible Manchester United CV.

So, while Wenger disputes the notion a Carling Cup win would represent the end of his Arsenal trophy drought, it is a stance Ferguson does not share.

"Wembley is an occasion. It has always been that way," said Ferguson.

"But the only way you can enjoy Wembley is by winning. We have got an opportunity to win something. It is not a nice day when you lose."

Although United will start Sunday’s final as favourites, their build-up has not exactly been trouble free, with both Rio Ferdinand and Anderson ruled out through injury.

Ferguson confirmed Ferdinand would be missing on Tuesday, after the new England skipper suffered a twinge in his back that meant him missing the Premier League victory against old club West Ham.

The United boss hopes to have Ferdinand back in a couple of weeks.

For Anderson, who hobbled out of United’s Carrington training base on crutches yesterday, the absence will be far longer after scans revealed he suffered a ruptured cruciate knee ligament as he stretched to make a pass during the first-half of the Hammers’ clash.

"We have assessed the situation and know he needs the operation,’’ Ferguson said.

"That will be done in two weeks’ time in Portugal once the swelling has gone down. He will be out for six months and hopefully that should have him about right for the new season."

Gibson and Evans ready for final fling
-belfasttelegraph.co.uk-

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00159/Football_-_Premier__159323t.jpg

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Jonny Evans and Darron Gibson will play in Sunday’s Carling Cup final against Aston Villa.

Ferguson is keeping faith with his young guns and Londonderry lad Gibson and Newtownabbey’s Evans can now look forward to their second successive Carling Cup decider after the penalty shoot-out win over Tottenham a year ago.

The two Ulstermen have helped United earn a return trip to Wembley and Ferguson knows another showpiece occasion will boost their football education.

“I am thinking about the younger ones to give them that smell (of success),” said Ferguson.

“There are two or three that come into that category, like (Darron) Gibson, (Jonny) Evans and Rafael.

“They obviously have to be considered. But it would be nice to win the cup having got to Wembley and got through those semi-final ties against Manchester City. You want to get to the final and do well.”

Arsene Wenger may have described it as a “non-trophy” but Ferguson insists the Carling Cup is a pot worth winning.

Not even the knowledge Sunday's encounter with Aston Villa at Wembley will lack the raw emotion and drama of those two memorable semi-final confrontations with City last month can shake Ferguson's determination to add another trophy to his incredible Manchester United CV.

So, while Wenger disputes the notion a Carling Cup win would represent the end of his Arsenal trophy drought, it is a stance Ferguson does not share.

“Wembley is an occasion. It has always been that way,” said Ferguson. “But the only way you can enjoy Wembley is by winning. We have got an opportunity to win something on Sunday. It is not a nice day when you lose.”

Ferguson did once view the League Cup as a nuisance in United's pursuit of the major prizes.

Although the Red Devils did reach three finals in four years in the early 1990s, between 1994 and 2003 there was nothing.

Yet this weekend, United will compete in their fourth in eight years and their third in five, confirmation of the success enjoyed by the Football League's decision to exempt teams involved in European combat to the last 32, third-round stage.

Perfect pairing for League Cup's Golden Jubilee
-uk.reuters.com-

http://www.thesoccerpitch.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/_45523996_man_utd_body_466.jpg

LONDON (Reuters) - There could hardly be a more apt pairing for the 50th League Cup final on Sunday than a meeting between holders Manchester United and Aston Villa, the first winners of the quirky little three-handled cup.

Villa, who beat Rotherham United over two legs to win the inaugural competition in 1960/61, have won the League Cup five times compared to United's three, with one of those coming against United in 1994.

With both teams doing well in the Premier League, their presence at Wembley Stadium could make the Golden Jubilee final a memorable one, especially if United manager Alex Ferguson selects in-form Wayne Rooney to start.

Rooney was on the sidelines when United beat Tottenham Hotspur on penalties to win last season's final, and is currently in a blistering run of form, scoring 19 goals in his last 19 matches, and 27 in all this season.

Ferguson however, implied Rooney might have to be content with a place on the bench as he considers the team to win the 44th major trophy of his career. United have other targets besides the League Cup.

His choice has been hampered by a spate of injuries and he will be unable to select Rio Ferdinand (back), Ryan Giggs (broken arm), or Brazilian midfielder Anderson, who was ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing a cruciate ligament in Tuesday's 3-0 win over West Ham United.

WEMBLEY OCCASION

Asked about his team selection on Thursday, Ferguson told reporters at a news briefing: "I'm thinking about the younger ones. There's two or three that come into that category like Darron Gibson, Jonny Evans and Rafa Da Silva.

"They have to be considered. But we want to win the cup. It would be nice to win the cup having got there.

"Being at Wembley is an occasion and we have got this opportunity of winning something. The only way you can enjoy Wembley is by winning -- it's not a nice day if you lose."

Villa manager Martin O'Neill's name is always close to the top of the list when the discussion turns to the eventual successor to 68-year-old Ferguson at United, and victory over them on Sunday would enhance his chances if he was interested in the job.

O'Neill has his eye on a Wembley double after his side beat Crystal Palace 3-1 on Wednesday to secure an FA Cup quarter-final against Reading next weekend.

He is seeking his third victory as a coach in the League Cup after guiding Leicester City to success in 1997 and 2000 as well as losing the final in 1999.

Villa are also involved in the race for fourth place in the Premier League and a potential Champions League spot next season and Ferguson was full of praise for the job O'Neill has done.

"You think about the team he inherited and the team he has got now, it's totally different in every department.

"He has brought a consistency to them. This could be a successful season for them. It is going to be a very difficult game for us."

O'Neill has yet to name his side for Wembley but is set to recall goalkeeper Brad Friedel, Emile Heskey and James Collins, who were all on the bench against Palace.

Jelang Final Piala Carling
Fergie Tinggalkan Rooney?
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detiksport

http://www.detiksport.com/images/content/2010/02/27/72/Rooney-isi.jpg

Rooney sedang menunjukkan permainan terbaiknya.

Match Pack: Carling Cup final

http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Manchester+United+v+Aston+Villa+Premier+League+0rF FDnUVQEsl.jpg

Reds aim to keep a grip on the trophy and get revenge for Villa's 1994 League Cup win...

Form guide: The Reds returned to winning ways against West Ham on Tuesday after the blip at Goodison Park - a first league defeat in eight games. Villa go into the final on the back of an FA Cup replay win over Crystal Palace which secured them a quarter-final place. They've not lost since the end of last year and held United to a 1-1 draw at Villa Park this month.

Ins and outs: United are missing the suspended Nani, and Rio Ferdinand (back), Ryan Giggs (arm) and Anderson (knee) join John O'Shea (leg) and Owen Hargreaves (knee) on the sidelines. Stilian Petrov (virus) is a doubt for Villa but they're otherwise at full strength.

Star man: Gabriel Agbonlahor netted Villa's winner at OT in December and is the club's top scorer with 14 goals. Ashley Young and Stewart Downing pose a threat down the flanks.

Manager: Martin O'Neill is highly regarded within the game. He's already steered Villa to the last eight of the FA Cup and harbours ambitions of a top-four league finish.

Referee: Phil Dowd has taken charge of just one United game this term, on Halloween as the Reds beat Blackburn 2-0 at Old Trafford. He's officiated three Villa games, and in 28 games has handed out four red cards.

In-form striker heads winner after Owen cancels out Milner penalty.

Wayne Rooney came off the bench to head the winner as Manchester United retained the Carling Cup by coming from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Wembley.

Replaced by Michael Owen in the starting line-up, Rooney came on for his injured team-mate before half-time and then guided home the winning goal 16 minutes from time.

Villa had enjoyed a dream start when taking the lead on five minutes after James Milner coolly sent Tomasz Kuszczak the wrong way from the penalty spot after Nemanja Vidic was fortunate not to be sent off for bringing down Gabriel Agbonlahor.

United were level less than 10 minutes later, though, when Dimitar Berbatov robbed Richard Dunne of possession and, while the Villa defender recovered to tackle the Bulgarian, the loose ball was swept home from just inside the box by Owen.

But Owen failed to last the half as his injury jinx struck again and he was replaced by Rooney before United almost went into the break in front when Park Ji-sung's shot thudded off the post and bounced clear off Carlos Cuellar.

Brad Friedel produced an excellent save from Michael Carrick early in the second period, but was beaten on 74 minutes when Antonio Valencia, after a slick one-two with Berbatov, stood a cross up for Rooney to guide a header beyond the Villa keeper's reach.

Rooney headed another Valencia cross against the base of the upright moments later and, though Emile Heskey's header deflected on to the top of the crossbar, Villa were unable to prevent United from winning back-to-back cup competitions for the first time in the club's history.

Flying start

Villa's flying start meant there was no chance of either side being allowed to turn this into the sterile affair many had predicted.

At the time, Martin O'Neill questioned how Vidic avoided a card of any kind for his foul on Agbonlahor.

As the contest wore on, and an increasing number of his own players ended up in Phil Dowd's notebook, the criticism grew.

If Agbonlahor had gone down when Vidic first grabbed his shirt, the card should have been red. Instead, the Villa striker admirably attempted to stay on his feet after outpacing the Serbian to reach Ashley Young's lofted pass beyond the United defence.

In the end, it was too much. Vidic stuck out a leg and hauled Agbonlahor down. Milner kept his nerve, sending Kuszczak the wrong way to provide the contest with the start it craved.

As tends to be the case when they fall behind, United's response was an all-out attacking assault, which in turn provided Villa with space to counter.

The mixture produced a thrilling spectacle, made all the more absorbing because Sir Alex Ferguson's team levelled so quickly.

So solid all season, it was just Dunne's luck his blunder should come in Villa's biggest game of the year.

Instinctive

The Irishman was robbed by Berbatov inside his own half, and though he made up the ground, in making his despairing tackle, Dunne only succeeded in rolling the ball into Owen's path, offering the kind of instinctive first-time finish he has made a career out of.

That Owen's contribution - and Rooney's exile - came to an end three minutes before the break was cause for regret, although the watching Fabio Capello has long since deduced those dodgy hamstrings cannot be trusted through another World Cup campaign.

Capello was probably also reaching the conclusion Stephen Warnock should be handed his problematic left-back berth against Egypt on Wednesday.

But when Warnock slipped just before half-time, man-of-the-match Valencia galloped past him down the by-line, his cross eventually arriving at the feet of Park, who slammed it onto the inside of a post, where it rocketed across goal for Cuellar to hack clear.

Friedel palmed away a magnificently constructed effort from Carrick after half-time, although Villa were United's equals and could easily have levelled when Young sent a volley bouncing into the ground.

Decisive moment

The decisive moment arrived on 74 minutes when Berbatov nonchalantly flicked Valencia's pass back into the Ecuadorian's path and he lifted up a cross for Rooney to loop a header into the net.

Rooney almost made the game safe four minutes later, with Valencia again the provider as the England ace's header came back off the post with Friedel beaten.

Villa responded in kind, Vidic deflecting Heskey's header onto his own bar and then Dunne nodded wide after steaming in to meet Stewart Downing's cross at the far post.

But Villa were unable to force Kuszczak into another save and Valencia had a chance to kill off his team's opponents when lashing wide in stoppage-time.

Man Of The Match: Wayne Rooney, another talismanic intervention.
Moment of the Match: Phil Dowd's decision not to send off or even book Nemanja Vidic after he conceded that early penalty.
Goal of the Match: Rooney's superb header to win it for United.
Attempt of the Match: Park's left-foot shot against a Villa post in the first half.
Save of the Match: Brad Friedel's excellent stop from Michael Carrick's shot.
Taking Point: It can only be one thing. Dowd, Vidic, no cards.

Kuszczak: Looks ever more comfortable between the sticks. Nothing he could do about Milner’s penalty, but rarely looked like being beaten after that 7

Rafael: Excellent until injury forced him off. Nullified the threat of Downing, while constantly looking to get forward himself 8

Vidic: Disastrous start. The Serbian was once again shown up for pace to bring down Agbonlahor for a penalty after Villa’s first attack 6

Evans: Looked the steadier of United’s centre backs and with each passing week looks increasingly like Vidic’s successor 7

Evra: Captain for the day, he was United’s main threat down the left on the overlap from Park. Rarely threatened by Young or Downing when Villa switched the wingers 7

Valencia: United didn’t make enough of him wide right, but he showed how dangerous he could be with his measured cross for Rooney’s winner 7

Carrick: Strolled around central midfield like he owned it. If he wasn’t breaking up Villa attacks, he was creating his own 8

Fletcher: The Scotland international was everywhere as United dominated central midfield. Compelling battle with Petrov 8

Park: Solid performance and did his part in quelling the threat of Young before being substituted late on 7

Berbatov: One of the Bulgarian’s best performances in a United shirt. Has been in encouraging form of late and was full of energy and enterprise – not least with his assist for Owen. Also played a part in Rooney’s winner 9

Owen: The finish for his goal was classic Owen. Unfortunately, so was the manner in which he pulled up with an injury just before half time 7

Substitutes

Rooney (for Owen, 42): United’s golden had looked quiet until his fifth headed goal in a row. Could have made it six with another bullet that hit the post and from then on it was the Rooney show. Outstanding again 8

Neville (for Rafael, 66): Villa put Young on him to try to test his aging legs, but it amounted to little 6

Gibson (for Park, 85): Too late to make an impact.

Referee Phil Dowd: Big mistake not sending off Vidic. 3/5

Bookings:

United: Evra, 41, Vidic, 68

Villa: Collins, 11, Downing, 18

Sweet Revenge n Get Our First Trophy This Season!! GLORY GLORY MAN UNITED!!

O'Neill: Poor decision hard to take
-teamtalk.com-

http://images.teamtalk.com/10/02/330/Martin-O-Neill-Phil-Dowd_2425604.jpg

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill was at a loss to understand how Nemanja Vidic was not sent off in Sunday's Carling Cup final at Wembley.

Vidic wasn't even shown a yellow card after hauling down Gabriel Agbonlahor to hand Villa the early penalty from which James Milner fired them ahead.

And he stayed on to help the holders recover to notch a 2-1 win with goals from Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney.

Afterwards O'Neill told BBC One: "I think it would be universally accepted they should have been down to 10 men. There's no other decision to make.

"It's not a good decision by an otherwise fine referee. It's the major point of the match.

"In two or three weeks it's forgotten and the trophy's on their mantlepiece, but it's a poor decision."

O'Neill backed his side to recover from the disappointment and book another Wembley date in the FA Cup final.

"It's hard to take," he said. "I thought we played splendidly, particularly in the first half, and got in front.

"Manchester United got the equaliser but at half-time I felt we were very, very capable of winning.

"I'm disappointed for the team but they're resilient, they're strong, they're young and they'll fight back."

He added: "We felt we were capable no matter what side they played. We have to try and get back here again in May because it's a worthwhile journey."

Rooney – It’s an unbelievable feeling
-unitedrant.co.uk-

http://www.unitedrant.co.uk/wp-content/themes/flashnews/thumb.php?src=http://www.unitedrant.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Wayne-Rooney1.jpg&h=189&w=279&zc=1&q=95

Manchester United players were delighted with today’s 2-1 Carling Cup win over Aston Villa at Wembley. None more so that match winner Wayne Rooney, who came off the bench to head home. The 28-goal striker replaced Michael Owen in the 40th minute and headed home United’s winning goal with 15 minutes to go.

“It’s a great feeling to play in a final at Wembley and to score the winning goal,” said Rooney who started the match with a cold and ended it with a minor knee injury.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling but the lads did really well and we deserve the win. I wasn’t feeling too great and I should have scored another header. It hit the post, maybe I should have been another one?”

Serbian Nemanja Vidic, who Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neil felt should have seen red for a fourth minute challenge on Gabriel Agbonlahor, said that United deserved a third Carling Cup win in five years.

“It’s nice to win the big games, it was a hard game today but we deserved to win,” said the former-Spartak Moscow defender, who escaped further sanction from referee Phil Dowd for the penalty challenge.

“I could have done better with the goal they scored. Agbonlahor did really well but I don’t think it was a sending off. I got in front of him and made the tackle, I wasn’t behind him.

“It’s always nice to win, now we have the confidence for the rest of the season. We’re happy.”

Owen, who will have an assessment on a tweaked hamstring tomorrow, was delighted despite being forced out of the match in the opening half. The striker made a rare start ahead of Rooney for the final.

“It’s great to win, great to score and great to play a part,” added the former-Liverpool forward, who scored his ninth United goal in just 11 starts this season.

“It’s just sad that I’ve picked up an hamstring injury. It’s my first injury since I’ve been at United. It was a real chance because it’s not every week I start a game.

“It’s been a fantastic season so far so I can’t grumble. Hopefully I won’t be out too long. Obviously Wayne’s played every week so it was good for him to rest today.”

But Owen wasn’t concerned with continued media speculation about his position with the England team, as manager Fabio Capello watched the Wembley final. The Italian is yet to pick Owen for an international squad.

“I didn’t think of who was watching. I don’t think about the World Cup. A lot of people have been getting their knickers in a twist about it,” added Owen.

“I just want to play for Man United and if that gets me recognition, then great. I’ve been to many World Cups and European Championships. If I don’t go, it gives someone else a chance.”

Vidic: Ref was right
-manchestereveningnews.co.uk-

Nemanja Vidic claimed referee Phil Dowd was right not to send him off early on in the 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Aston Villa.

The Reds defended their trophy thanks to goals from Michael Owen and substitute Wayne Rooney, but they fell behind early on when Vidic brought down Gabriel Agbonlahor to give away a penalty.

James Milner scored it, but Vidic was not even booked even though he looked to have denied Agbonlahor a goalscoring opportunity.

Vidic said: “I can react better but Agbonlahor did well.

“I don’t think it was a red card because I got in front of him, not behind. If I had got behind then yes.

“It’s always nice to win big games but it was hard. They played with two forwards but I thought we deserved it.”

Matchwinner Rooney said: “It’s a great feeling to play in the final at Wembley and score the winning goal. I am delighted and I think all the players who played in the competition should feel very proud of themselves.”

Owen refused to talk up his World Cup chances despite making a goalscoring appearance in front of England boss Fabio Capello.

Owen looked sharp before limping off with a hamstring injury towards the end of the first half.

Afterwards he insisted he was not giving too much thought to going to South Africa this summer.

He told BBC One: “It was great to win, great to score, great to play a part, just soured by getting a hamstring injury.

“It’s the first injury I have had since I have been at United but it’s been a good day.

“I didn’t think about who was watching. I know a lot of people have been getting their knickers in a twist about it (his chances of being in the World Cup squad). But I just want to play well for Man United. If I go then great, if I don’t then it gives someone else a chance.”

FERGIE WANTED TO KEEP ROONEY FRESH
-sportinglife.com-

http://images.sportinglife.com/10/02/330/Sir-Alex-Ferguson-Carling-Cup-final-trophy-PA_2425591.jpg

Sir Alex Ferguson admits he had one eye on future games after starting Manchester United's Carling Cup final match-winner Wayne Rooney on the bench against Aston Villa.

Rooney, who headed the semi-final winner against Manchester City, was replaced in the starting line-up by Michael Owen for Sunday's Wembley showdown.

Owen repaid his manager's faith by scoring the equaliser before the striker pulled up with a hamstring injury to be replaced by Rooney before half-time.

The in-form England ace then settled an open game on 74 minutes as he rose well to head Antonio Valencia's cross beyond the reach of Villa keeper Brad Friedel.

With United fighting it out for the Premier League and due to face AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League in the next fortnight, Ferguson felt it was an opportunity to give Rooney a break.

"There's a lot of big games coming up now and that's why we didn't play him today, but he's had 45, 50 minutes," Ferguson told Sky Sports.

United fell behind inside the opening five minutes when James Milner scored from the penalty spot after Nemanja Vidic was fortunate not to be sent off for bringing down Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Ferguson had no complaints with the award of the penalty and praised his team's ability to recover from suffering an early setback.

He added: "It was a bad start to the game and we got caught on the hop really with the penalty kick.

"I think it was the right decision as he has brought him down from the back, but we recovered and that's the important thing.

"Michael Owen had a great first half, but unfortunately he got a hamstring injury and had to come off with that.

"Wayne comes on and scores the winning goal. With the form he's in you expect that."

Friedel: Vidic should have gone
-teamtalk.com-

http://d.yimg.com/a/p/ap/20100228/capt.7d9c61770553416abcaf6dedf72d78bb.britain_socc er_league_cup_final_lst105.jpg

Brad Friedel insisted Phil Dowd's failure to send off Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic was crucial in Aston Villa's Carling Cup final defeat.

Vidic was the last defender when he hauled down Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor inside four minutes.

Referee Dowd awarded a penalty - converted by James Milner - but no further action was taken against Vidic and United recovered to win 2-1 with goals from Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney.

But Friedel is convinced the heavy pitch would have taken its toll on United had they had to play virtually the whole game with 10 men.

Friedel said: "We started the game really well but we have seen the penalty incident now and it really should have been a sending-off.

"You feel really hard done by after you have viewed it afterwards because you would have liked to be playing against 10 men.

"We feel a bit hard done by that we didn't play with a man advantage after that, especially on a pitch as heavy as that and cutting up like that.

"With 10 men, they would have really tired towards the end but it wasn't to be."

Villa defender Carlos Cuellar echoed Friedel's sentiments and said: "For me it is a penalty and a sending-off. I think everyone says the same.

"You saw the sending-off of (Juliano) Belletti of Chelsea for something similar on Saturday. I think this was even more clear.

"But different referees make different decisions and you never know what would have happened had we had the extra man."

Midfielder James Milner admitted producing a decent performance was no consolation for Martin O'Neill's team.

He said: "We didn't play too badly but that is not what it is about and, in finals, it is about getting a result and winning the game.

"We came up against an experienced side who have played in a lot of finals and maybe that told in the end.

"But I don't think we did ourselves any harm. We put in a good performance, had chances."

Foul Vidic harusnya ga ush terjadi, Si Gabby udh satu langkah dulu dr pd bolanya. Kalo Vidic lbh sabar pasti masi bs adu sprint dan body dulu sm Gabby. Ya itu lah yg terjadi di lapangan, GA Semudah yg kita ucapkan di layar tv sewaktu kita menonton match tsb..hehehehe

4 gelar Piala Liga nih ya Back to Back. \m/

Vida pelanggaran? keknya berbau diving dr Agbonlahor deh... tackling dr Vida gak mengenai langsung kaki Agbonlahor.. kalo' menghambat laju iya...

Treble cak Treble. :mudance::beer::champ:\m/

..yihaaa United 2 - aston villa 1, villa mainnya cukup bagus tapi United lebih bagus hehe, berbatov sperti biasa dengan umpan terkadang backheel nya yang membius (ceile:">) belum agresifitas nya park dan valencia cukup merepotkan pertahanan villa.

dan lagi2 feeling ttg owen terbukti niy dl sempat final carling lwn united dan mencetak goal, skrg andil membawa united mengungguli villa terbukti goal pertamanya membuat united kembali di atas angin, congratz Man United.. :)
