[Statistik] Hat-tricks (3 gol atau lebih) Man United players

Mencetak hat-trick (3 gol atau lebih) dalam sebuah pertandingan adalah sebuah catatan prestasi tersendiri bagi seorang pemain sepakbola.

Demikian pula halnya dengan para pemain Manchester United. Begitu banyak pemain-pemain Setan Merah yang mencatatkan dirinya sebagai pencetak hat-trick.

Pemain MU yang pertama kali membuat hat-trick adalah William Stewart. Stewart membuatnya pada tanggal 15 Oktober 1892 di 1892-93 saat melawan Wolverhampton Wanderers, di partai yg sama ada pemain United lainnya yang juga membuat hat-trick yaitu Bob Donaldson.

dari beberapa nama di atas ..., ada 2 nama yang ternyata menjadi pencetak hattrick di ajang Community/Charity Shield pasca perang dunia, Eric Cantona ama Tommy Taylor,
hanya saja king Eric menciptakan Hattrick saat masih berbaju Leeds United

Eric Cantona and Tommy Taylor are Manchester United legends. One specific thing that they also have in common is that they have both scored a hat-trick in The FA Charity Shield - now "The FA Community Shield".

In fact, they are the only two players to achieve the feat in the post-war history of The Shield.

Cantona aka "The Magnificent 7" was actually with Leeds United when he got his. Howard Wilkinson's Leeds were the last Football League Champions when they edged FA Cup Winners Liverpool 4-3 in a Wembley thriller in 1992. Tony Dorigo was Leeds' other scorer and Ian Rush, Dean Saunders and a Gordon Strachan own-goal contributed to Liverpool's total. Later in the season Cantona switched to Manchester United.

Tommy Taylor, a "Busby Babe" from the 1950s, notched an impressive 16 goals in 19 matches for England before tragically losing his life at Munich in 1958. His Charity Shield hat-trick came in the previous year as League Champions United humbled Cup winners Aston Villa 4-0. Johnny Berry scored United's other goal with a penalty.

In a pre-war Shield match, in 1932, Dixie Dean's four-goal haul for Everton helped them to beat Newcastle United 5-3.

‘The Pride of All Europe’ is one of the most popular Manchester United terrace anthems. Part of the lyrics include the line “We often score six but we seldom score ten.”

It’s true, United have hit teams for six 64 times in the club’s history including several times in recent memory.

But ten? United have scored ten just twice, once as Newton Heath against Wolves in 1892 once in the club’s first ever European Cup home game against Belgian champions Anderlecht in 1956.

We’ve often heard from a United perspective about that night, but never the Belgian one, so I tracked down one of the Anderlecht players.

Hypolite Vandenbosch is now 84 and lives in Brussels, but he remembers that humiliating night clearly.

“We knew very little about our opponents from Manchester,” he explained. “Scouting didn’t exist and we had never seen any images of United before the first game in Brussels.

"ircumstances in those days just didn’t allow it.

“We were the best team in Belgium, a really great side,” he added.

“But Manchester United were on another level. They remain the best English team I’ve ever seen. Bobby Charlton wasn’t even in the starting eleven that day, just to give you an idea from how strong this team really was.”

Saturday’s seven against Blackburn was a record score against the Ewood Park side. United have scored seven on 21 occasions - about once every seven years.

In 1950, United beat Aston Villa 7-0 at Old Trafford in front of just 22,149, half the average crowd of that season. My Uncle Charlie scored four, three of them penalties.

When I used to visit him and my great grandmother at a modest three bed-semi on Seymour Grove in Old Trafford in the 80s and early 90s, it was one of Charlie’s favourite stories.

Charlie had an organ in his front room and a croquet lawn in the back garden. In Old Trafford!

The back room was where he told his stories - about football, greyhounds and the war.

For the Villa game, he stepped up, placed the ball on the spot and took four steps back, never taking his eyes off the keeper.

“Left,” he said, before whacking the ball which bounced out of the goal from the left-hand corner stanchion. He did exactly the same for the second penalty. A hush descended on Old Trafford when United were awarded a third. Charlie stepped up.

Before he could do his usual routine, Villa’s goalkeeper came forward a couple of paces in an attempt to unsettle him. “I suppose you’re going to tell me that this is going in the same place Charlie?” he asked.

“Same place,” confirmed Charlie. His team-mates Stan Pearson and Allenby Chilton were aghast, but Charlie moved forward - and converted his third penalty in exactly the same spot. He got a fourth with a rare header.

Charlie scored 61 goals in 161 matches for United, 18 of them penalties, a record until it was surpassed by Eric Cantona. He was adamant that a player shouldn’t miss a penalty.

“No one should miss from 12 yards out,” he’d repeat. And he always told the goalkeeper where he was going to place it, even telling Jack Crompton in training. That’s one reason why they called him ‘Cheeky’.

I went to see him just before he died, aged 80, in 2002 at a nursing home in Styal near the airport. “I’m the boss here,” he said with a wink. The nurses laughed and let him get on with it.

“Makes a change from him telling us how to take penalties,” she added. Not that United needed any such advice this Saturday, all seven goals coming from open play.

On 23 March 1985, Mark Hughes bagged his first league hat-trick for United as the Reds thrashed Aston Villa 4-0 at Old Trafford.

It was one of four trebles the Welshman scored in a United shirt – that’s more than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Dwight Yorke and as many as George Best and Wayne Rooney.

An impressive tally, then. And yet 12 players have scored more hat-tricks for the Reds, including Denis Law, who netted an incredible 18 in his 11-season stint. Here we take a look at the nine Reds who have netted six or more trebles during their United careers…


18 – Denis Law (1962-1973)‘The King of the Stretford End’ was a goal machine who scored a hat-trick or better 18 times during his distinguished career with United. The Scot hit four in a 5-3 win at Ipswich in 1962 and, a year later, claimed three against former club Huddersfield en route to the 1963 FA Cup success. Law managed five hat-tricks in Europe - against Willem II, Sporting Lisbon, Djurgardens and Waterford (twice) – and, away from United, famously scored six times in one FA Cup tie for neighbours City, only for the game to be abandoned and Luton to eventually progress.

12 – Jack Rowley (1937-1954)
The former England international, who had a record of six goals in six games for his country, was an exceptional finisher who scored four times against Swansea in his second appearance for United back in 1937. Six of his individual salvos came at Maine Road, where the Reds played their home games shortly after World War II, and he smashed five in the 8-0 romp against Yeovil in the 1949 FA Cup. Rowley’s final treble came in a 6-1 drubbing of Arsenal in 1952.

9 – Dennis Viollet (1953-1962)
Local lad Viollet wrote his name into United folklore with four goals in the record 10-0 demolition of Anderlecht in the 1956 European Cup. A prolific scorer, he netted a hat-trick in the remarkable 6-5 win at Chelsea in 1954 and also at Workington in the 1958 FA Cup. After surviving the Munich air disaster, he continued to find the net with great regularity with his last two trebles coming against Burnley in the early 60s.

7 – Sir Bobby Charlton (1956-1973)
The United legend scored seven trebles, the first against Charlton in 1957. Seven years later, he claimed three goals in the 6-1 Fairs Cup rout at Borussia Dortmund and his final hat-trick for the Reds came in a 6-2 win against Northampton a few months before he lifted the World Cup with England.

6 – Joe Cassidy (1895-1900)
Another Scot, Cassidy played for Newton Heath at the end of the 19th Century and all of his hat-tricks came at Bank Street. His trebles came at Second Division level, apart from the final one in an FA Cup win over Kettering in 1900. The record books also show he scored four times against Walsall Town in 1894 during a 14-0 win. Unfortunately, the FA ordered the game to be replayed due to the poor state of the pitch.

6 – David Herd (1961-1968)
Five of Herd's six hat-tricks came at OT but his final treble was against West Brom at The Hawthorns in 1966. The £35,000 signing from Arsenal had bagged four in a 5-0 win against Sunderland a month earlier, beating three different players between the sticks - Jim Montgomery, Charlie Hurley and John Parke - to the delight of trivia buffs. He has one European matchball to his name from the win against Berlin-based ASK Vorwaerts in 1965.

6 – Stan Pearson (1936-1954)
The Salford-born sharpshooter made the news this season when Dimitar Berbatov matched his 1946 feat of scoring a hat-trick against Liverpool. Pearson later hit all three goals in the FA Cup semi-final win against Derby at Hillsborough in 1948 as United went on to win the competition. In 1952, Derby were also on the receiving end of his final Reds triple.

6 – Tom Reid (1929-1933)
The fourth Scotsman on our list, he started his career with Liverpool but scored freely for United after signing in the early 1930s, including 15 in the last 17 games of his debut season. Although his first hat-trick was in vain during a 7-4 home defeat to Newcastle in the top flight, he claimed the matchball on five other occasions. Four of those came in Division Two, including one against Oldham in 1932 – the club he left United to join a year later.

6 – Ruud van Nistelrooy (2001-2006)
After a knee injury delayed his move from PSV, the Holland hitman made up for lost time by displaying a clinical touch throughout his United career. In 2004, van Nistelrooy scored all of United’s goals in a 4-1 Champions League beating of Sparta Prague.
