bagaimana menurut teman2x semua ...
apakah Inggris emang bener2x harus bergantung pada seorang Rooney ..., or what .. ???

Crouch Praise For Rooney
Red Dave - 7th June 2010

Peter Crouch says that United's Wayne Rooney can steer England to World Cup glory and in the process become the best player in the world.

Rooney goes into the competition with a lot of pressure placed on him to perform as well as he has done in the league last season, but Crouch believes the United striker is up for the challenge.

"It is massive for us to have someone in such great form going into the World Cup," Crouch told The Sun.

"He has always been fantastic. A top-class player. People are saying he needs to play with another striker.

"But this season at United he has proved he can play up front on his own and still score goals.

"Wayne is world-class. He is in the top five players right now - everyone would agree with that.

"I think he could end up being the World Player of the Year. It would be great for England if someone could do that.

"Frank Lampard got extremely close. For someone to win it would be phenomenal. You also forget how young Wayne is.

"He has achieved so much in a short time. He has a long, long way to go in his career. And he is more mature than, say, five years ago.

"We had a long winter in the Premier League and the World Cup is in every England player's mind.

"It's an exciting time for everyone concerned. It has been far too long since we won the World Cup or even got close to winning it.

"I would like to think we can live up to our expectations. We have a strong belief. The way we qualified with games to spare was good. We have a fantastic squad.

"We have talked ourselves up before and it has been frustrating that we have not lived up to our expectations.

"This year we would like to go out and really prove ourselves."

hanya ada 2 kemungkinan :

Can Roo handle it?
MEN, James Robson - June 09, 2010

It was the great man himself who once dubbed an 18-year-old Wayne Rooney the “white Pele.” Four goals at Euro 2004 – his first major international tournament – were deemed worthy of such lofty, if premature, praise from the Brazil legend.

But it is arguably football’s other “greatest” that bears better comparison to Rooney.

Diego Maradona, robust in physique, volatile of nature and irrepressible of force, more closely resembles the United and England striker than the twinkle-toed Pele.

Likewise, no major nation has been so reliant on one player since Argentina’s World Cup-winning side of 1986.

The question is whether Rooney has the temperament or ability to emulate the Argentine and almost single-handedly – no pun intended – guide England to the summit of world football.

That is the weight of expectation on his shoulders in South Africa – and whether Fabio Capello would publicly admit it or not: No Rooney, no chance.

England are not a one-man team and nor were Argentina at Mexico ’86. Maradona was supported by the considerable talents of Jorge Valdano and Jorge Burruchaga – but without their captain, the scorer of virtuoso goals in the quarter-final and semi-final, as well as creator of the winning strike in the final – it is hard to imagine they would have progressed beyond the last eight.

Rooney, too, has Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard – Joe Cole as well – but he is the totem around which England’s hopes revolve, the one player who would be guaranteed a starting berth in any other team competing at the tournament.

Talisman

That is how important he has become to England’s cause. Not just a player with the potential to win matches, like Paul Gascoigne in ’90 or Michael Owen in ’98, but a proven talisman.

Nine goals during England’s World Cup qualifying campaign was evidence enough of his emergence as a striker of the highest quality – but it has been his progress at club level that has propelled him to the heights of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as one of the three best players on the planet.

A tally of 34 goals before twisting his ankle at the end of March kept United on course for a fourth successive Premier League title and a third consecutive Champions League final.

Four goals against AC Milan alone, another against Bayern Munich, along with strikes against Arsenal, Liverpool and the winner in the Carling Cup final against Aston Villa were indicative of a player who turns it on when on the biggest stage.

He’s a player capable of settling the most important games. But far from just a big game player, Rooney is more than happy to throw his weight around against the smaller kids in the playground – Portsmouth, Hull, West Ham and Wigan all getting their lunch money pinched by the cock of the school.

Unfortunately for United, their hopes crumbled along with Rooney’s ankle in the Allianz Arena. The 24-year-old didn’t score another goal after picking up the injury, leading to United’s exit from the Champions League and surrender of the title to Chelsea.

And there’s the fear for Capello because there simply is no plan B. The Italian may have potentially England’s greatest ever striker at his disposal, but he has a worse pool of forwards than any of his recent predecessors at a World Cup.

Shame

Take Rooney out of that pool it is almost impossible to see where the goals are going to come from, even if Peter Crouch has made a habit out of scoring against the Andorras, Jamaicas and Macedonias of the world.

The Rooney-Maradona comparison can be taken further when you consider both players’ introduction to the World Cup.

While Rooney burst onto the scene at Euro 2004, his first World Cup came two years later, ending in shame as he was sent off in England’s quarter-final elimination to Portgual.

Maradona suffered the same fate at Spain 82 when a wild kick out against Brazil’s Joao Batista da Silva. It made Rooney’s “stamp” on Ricardo Carvalho look like a kiss on the cheek.

Maradona regrouped and four years later was lifting the World Cup for Argentina. Likewise, Rooney has improved 10-fold since Germany.

But he himself admits he won’t be able to go down as a great unless he wins the World Cup.

“If you want to be known and remembered in world football, I feel you would have to win a World Cup,” he said. "Obviously there are players like George Best and Cristiano Ronaldo who are geniuses, but personally I feel I have to help England win a World Cup to be considered like that.

“It means there is still a lot I need to win before I can catch up.”

The warning signs are there for Capello. In 2004, England’s hopes crashed as Rooney limped out of the quarter-final clash with Portugal, likewise when he was dismissed against the same opponents in 2006.

If his loss was profound then, it would be nothing compared to now.

Pastinya.

Ferguson: Rooney can carry expectation
MEN - June 10, 2010

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes Wayne Rooney has the personality to carry the weight of expectation as England's leading man in South Africa.

The 24-year-old has been in fine form for the Reds this season, scoring 35 goals for club and country and winning the PFA Players' Player of the Year award.

Rooney's role as England catalyst is set to continue in South Africa, but his club manager believes he will shoulder the responsibility with aplomb.

"When you look at England at the moment, what Fabio is depending on is a fit Rooney," said Ferguson. "He will be the most important player for England, because he is the one player guaranteed his place up front.

"The other selections are not quite clear at the moment. He has got Defoe, he has got Crouch, Heskey.

"But Rooney is the guaranteed player who is going to play there so there's a great responsibility on the boy, great expectations from the supporters.

"I think he will carry that, but there is a great expectation.

"Sometimes because of such demand on England, it sometimes stretches people's realistic ambitions and puts a great onus on the player."

Rooney came top of the Castrol Index ratings in the World Cup Qualifiers, a system endorsed by the likes of Ferguson and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Castrol Performance data was used to forecast the winners of the 2010 World Cup and showed that England have a 10.3% of lifting the trophy at Soccer City on July 11.

The system makes Brazil favourites with a 23.4% chance; sentiments echoed by Ferguson who predicts a final with fellow World Cup stalwarts Italy.

"Well, the seeding pans out that Spain could play Brazil in the semi final," he said. "I look at that, if they were split apart I thought that would be the final, but the fact they play in the semi-final gives the other section a great chance.

"I tend to think Italy will come strong, because they have the coach, Lippi, with great experience. They have great experience in the squad. By history, Italy always do well the longer the tournament goes on, so I think that Italy will be the big strong favourites in the other section.

"Brazil and Spain, I find difficult to call. I probably err on the side of Brazil, simply because you always think that Brazil have got something special for a final. History tells you that.

"Spain have never won the World Cup. They won the European Championship, they are going in with the best team that Spain have had for many years in a World Cup. If Torres is fit, if Xavi is fit.

"There some imponderables there, but I have to go for Brazil. And if Brazil get to the final, then I would back Brazil."

Ferguson was talking ahead of a Castrol-supported football documentary aired tonight called 'How To Win The World Cup', which will be shown by ITV4 at 7.55pm.

Cmiiw

@ Oom Ario 'n Mas Agung,

:hammer:

c'mon Roo ..., just proved yours ... :serbu::serbu:

Wenger: Rooney a lone star
MEN - June 11, 2010

One of United's greatest rivals, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, has been "hugely impressed" with Wayne Rooney's progress with the Reds.

Wenger felt Rooney's impact last season after the 24-year-old striker scored in both Premier League games against the Gunners.

But it wasn't just Arsenal Rooney hurt in a season that brought 35 goals for club and country.

It was his emergence as a world-class finisher in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo last season that has propelled him up alongside the world’s greatest players and one who will have the eyes of the world watching him over the next month at the World Cup.

That transition from a scorer of great goals to a great goal-scorer came largely due to the way he was deployed at Old Trafford last season, when, for the most part, he operated alone, ahead of a five-man midfield.

It yielded a glut of goals before he twisted his ankle at the end of March effectively killed off his and United’s season.

Wenger believes his development over the past 12 months has been nothing short of astonishing.

“I have been hugely impressed by Rooney and everything he has done for United and for England this season,” said the Frenchman.

“He has power, desire, calmness, great technical qualities and is now scoring many more headers than at any other time in his career.

“One of the main considerations for Fabio Capello at this World Cup will be whether to play with two up front or play Rooney on his own.

“I will bet that he starts with Rooney on his own - with the big midfield players like Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard breaking late into the box to support him.”

Disayangkan hingga kini Capello belum menemukan strategy pas utk memaksimalkan peran Rooney. SWP dan Lennon di sayap terlalu lama memegang bola, adapun di tengah hanya Gerrard yg terbilang memiliki pengertian yg baik dgn Rooney, sdgkan Lampard terlalu sibuk mencari ruang tembak dr pd memberikan operan. Beruntung Heskey sbg partenernya terbilang cukup baik kerjasamanya di depan dibandingkan dgn Berba di United, hehe...
