Chelsea vs Man United, Player Rating
ManUtd.com
Edwin van der Sar Fine fingertip save from Ivanovic’s header in the first half, and made several key saves in the second half. May feel he could have parried the Sturridge’s shot to safety rather than into Kalou’s path, but it wasn’t decisive.
John O’Shea You know what you’re going to get with John O’Shea – a solid and steady performance. He completed his task
Nemanja Vidic Rock-solid as usual, Nemanja was at his very best against Chelsea’s physical front men. This kind of performance shows why his new contract was welcomed so warmly by United’s fans.
Jonny Evans Didn’t really put a foot wrong in a largely dominant defensive display.
Fabio Good start from Fabio, never seemed to struggle up against the pace of Kalou. In Evra’s absence, he’s made a big move to claim that left-back berth.
Antonio Valencia Gave Ashley Cole a torrid time down United’s right wing, seemingly picking up where he left off last season – except, instead of setting up a Rooney goal, it was the other way round. Well-timed run and cracking finish from Wayne’s cross.
Michael Carrick He struggled with consistency last season, but this was Carrick at his best, controlling play in midfield as United dominated in the engine room.
Paul Scholes That dominance was in no small part down to this man. Chelsea couldn’t get close to Scholes. Lucky to escape an early yellow card (see football dictionary under ‘typical Scholes tackle’) but after that he controlled play with pure finesse.
Ji-sung Park He was quite quiet before being replaced at half time, but the Korean is still searching for fitness after his return from the close-season.
Wayne Rooney Looked sharp. His cross for Valencia’s goal, through the legs of John Terry, was nothing short of world class.
Michael Owen Nice touches, laying the ball off to build United attacks. He also went close to forcing Ivanovic to turn into his own net with a lofted cross.
Substitutes
Nani (on for Owen 46) His touch to tee-up Berbatov was sublime.
Dimitar Berbatov (on for Rooney 46) His finish showed all of his class and proves United’s other forwards still have a fight to keep him out of the team.
Javier Hernandez (on for Park 46) Lively with good movement and always looked to get involved. His finish was comical, in off his face, but as goalscorers will say, it doesn’t matter how they go in.
Ryan Giggs (on for Carrick 80) Little time to influence the game, but helped United see it out.
Darren Fletcher (on for Scholes 80) Same for Fletch, he helped the Reds ensure victory was secured.
versi Manchester Evening News :
Chelsea 1 United 3: Player ratings
Peter Spencer - August 09, 2010
Edwin Van der Sar: Lucky to escape 7th minute blunder when trying to clear. The oldest player on the park at 39, proved he's lost none of his agility. Considering Chelsea’s fire power you would have expected him to have had a busier time. Classy save against sub Sturridge and couldn't be faulted for Chelsea's consolation. 6 :-?
John O'Shea: No sign of last season's injury problems and was confident enough to get forward regularly. Must have expected a tougher game. Stood up to be counted as Chelsea pressed late on. 6
Vidic: Chosen ahead of Rooney as skipper. Might have something to do with those pictures of early morning antics or simply that Rooney only played half a match. As usual the tough guy United feared might go to Real Madrid hardly put a foot wrong much to frustration of Chelsea and in particular Anelka. 8
Jonathan Evans: Crunch time for the Northern Ireland ace who because of Ferdinand's on-going injury problems, has a superb chance to make himself a first choice starter. Solid enough alongside the dominant Vidic but needs to concentrate for the whole 90 minutes. 7
Fabio Da Silva: Neat and tidy and proved once again that with even more experience against high-calibre opponents such as Chelsea he will be even better. Tough task replacing class act Evra and didn't let anyone down. 7
Valencia: Got on the score-sheet five minutes before the break with an effort that brought back memories of Captain Marvel himself, Bryan Robson, coming late with a lung-busting run to latch on to Rooney's near perfect cross. Deserves the glory after keeping himself involved with a highly effective input. 8
Carrick: The shock starter showed he meant business as the battle for midfield began in earnest. He'd been ruled out for a fortnight by Fergie just 48 hours before kick off and although he did train on Saturday his selection raised eyebrows. One of his best performances for some time – and so timely at the start of a milestone season for him. 7
Scholes: Went for glory trying to volley a Valencia cross but the maestro's effort was well over the bar. Played a vital role in the Valencia opener by superbly picking out Rooney wide on the right before he beat Cole to cross early. No wonder he was belatedly wanted for England in South Africa. Quick-thinking at free-kick almost led to a second soon after break. Ran the show. 9
Park Ji-Sung: His pace perfectly dovetails with veteran Scholes' game. His energy unsettles opponents. He can consider himself unlucky to have got only half a game but then Fergie knows exactly what he's going to get from Mr Perpetual Motion. 7
Owen: Started alongside Rooney in what was his first competitive appearance since injuring his hamstring at the same venue in February's Carling Cup final. Yesterday, boosted by his goal in Dublin, showed some neat touches as he looks to kickstart his stalled career. 6
Rooney: Desperate to put his nightmare summer behind him but has to be careful not to try to do too much. Fantastic how he made a complete fool of supposedly the best left back in the world to play the sort of ball Valencia would have found more difficult to miss. 7
Substitutes
Hernandez (for Rooney 45): Fergie might just have found United a little gem. It is fine putting on a show on tour but this was close to the real deal against the champions at Wembley. He wasn't overawed and although his goal was fortunate as it bounced back off himself he had to be in the right place in the first place. 7
Berbatov (for Owen 45): He looked like he was enjoying himself and set up Hernandez just before the Mexican youngster's goal. He was all smiles in injury time when he took advantage of Chelsea gaps in defence to score with a delightful lob. 8
Nani (for Park 45): Expected more especially after he missed the World Cup with Portugal. Still he's turned around his United career. Set up late Berbatov spectacular. 6
Smalling (for Fabio 70): Great to get experience at this level under his belt. Good move to have him into the fray early. 6
Giggs (for Scholes 80) and Fletcher (for Carrick 80) – not enough time to be marked
not used: Kuszczak
BATTLE OF THE BOSSES: Sir Alex mixed and matched his team to keep Carlo Ancelotti guessing. Replacing two strikers with another pair who were just as effective, brings back memories of '99 trebles!
Referee: Andre Marriner (W Midlands): Won't be in the headlines so that makes it a great afternoon's work. Did very well to keep flow going. 8

Star man : Paul Scholes
Rated by Stuart Mathieson
Edwin van der Sar - Newcastle didn’t give the veteran much to do but what came his way stuck 7
John O'Shea - Not much marauding down the wing but he was steady enough 6
Nemanja Vidic - Carroll gave him some early difficult moments but the Serb gradually got on top 7
Jonny Evans - Nothing to ruffle the Irishman’s feathers. It was an uncomplicated effort 7
Patrice Evra - Unexpected early return for the Frenchman and after he quelled Routledge’s early enthusiasm it was easy 7
Nani - Two Newcastle players were booked stopping him so it showed the danger he was capable of 7
Antonio Valencia - The Ecuadorian didn’t really cause Newcastle too much damage 6
Paul Scholes - Started off a shade off the pace but then provided another sumptuous passing effort plus a reckless tackle thrown in for usual good measure 8
Darren Fletcher - Hit and miss from the Scot. Quiet at times but was lively when he turned up for his goal 6
Wayne Rooney - You had to feel for him as he searches for that elusive goal 6
Dimitar Berbatov - Folklore says he slept in Newcastle shirt as a young fan but he was well awake here 8
Substitutes
Javier Hernandez - A lively effort from the Mexican 6
Ryan Giggs - A well taken goal 6
Rafael - Not much time to mark 6

Edwin van der Sar - 6
It was an easy afternoon for the Dutchman against tepid Hammers attack
Patrice Evra - 7
Nothing to unsettle him defensively and he had his usual dangerous attacks
Jonny Evans - 7
After his struggle against Fulham this was much more authoritative
John O'Shea - 6
Dyer gave him some uncomfortable moments early but steadied himself
Nemanja Vidic - 8
Back to his old self after a wobble at Craven Cottage
Darren Fletcher - 6
Not the usual stamp on the game we expect now from the Scotsman
Paul Scholes - 7
The veteran once again dipped into his well of passing ability
Ryan Giggs - 7
Was in good shape working back and set Reds on road by winning penalty
Nani - 8
A quality goal, excellent set up for Berbatov and generally United's biggest threat
Wayne Rooney - 7
His touch is undoubtedly on its way back and spot kick will help him
Dimitar Berbatov - 7
Excellent finish for third and some more lovely touches
Substitutes

(sub Evans 74) fairly comfortable introduction

Van der Sar: Safe handling and comfortable saves but let down right at end 7
G Neville: Solid first game of season but both Everton’s late goals came down his flank 6
Vidic: Immense defiance from captain and great goal but where was he for Cahill’s goal? 8
Evans: Had been a steady sidekick to Vidic but he too didn’t defend Everton’s second well 6
Evra: The Frenchman’s spectacularly attempts at clearances put Reds in danger 6
Fletcher: Took time to get measure of Everton midfield but his goal took him up a level 7
Scholes: More exquisite passes to add to his collection 8
O’Shea: First midfield outing for a while and never got command of the area 6
Nani: Two excellent assists via crosses but let himself down with a weak finish that could have killed Everton off 7
Giggs: Didn’t do anything wrong but by his high standards didn’t cause any damage 6
Berbatov: Teased Everton’s defence and sublime finish for goal. He also could have made sure but late casual effort went begging 8
Subs:
Park (sub Evra 81)
Owen, Smalling, Rafael, Macheda, Gibson, Kuszczak not used
Battle of the Bosses:
Fergie couldn’t stop his players taking foot off gas and paid the price. Moyes, a Fergie in the making, got his players going to end

Tomasz Kuszczak - 6.0
A virtual spectator, the United No2 had no opportunity to show that he could be a worthy heir to the rested van der Saar.
Wesley Brown - 5.5
Without ever looking in trouble defensively, he offered little to United's attacks. His delivery was inconsistent and rarely got into the final third.
Rio Ferdinand - 6.5
The United skipper, making a welcome return to action since damaging his knee ligaments in England's first World Cup training session, could have updated his Twitter account and still kept Rangers away from Kuszczak's goal.
Chris Smalling - 6.0
Handed his first United start, the £10m heir to Rio's throne showed all the smoothness of his centre-back colleague. Maintained his centre-back slot when Jonny Evans replaced Fabio late on.
Fabio Da Silva - 5.5
The less heralded of the Da Silva brothers was unable to offer the cut and thrust that Evra reliably provides down the left flank. Frequently tried to come inside on to his right foot but to little effect.
Luis Antonio Valencia - 5.5
Had a quiet game but the expert deliverer of right-flank crosses faces a long spells on the sidelines after sustaining an ankle injury so horrific that Sky did not show any replays. Received a standing ovation from both sections of fans when he was stretchered off.
Darren Fletcher - 6.0
The only United player to remain in the starting line-up from the weekend, the Scot offered his customary energy but could not find the killer pass to open up Rangers' rearguard.
Darron Gibson - 7.0
This is a sentence I never thought I would write but the unheralded midfielder was the most potent of United's front six. Came the closest to breaking the deadlock with a series of sizzling long-range efforts.
Ji-Sung Park - 5.0
As eager as ever but his distribution was poor and he only flitted in and out of the action.
Wayne Rooney - 5.0
A frustrating and disappointing evening for United's talisman after being omitted against Everton. Frequently dropped deep in search of the ball and his touch often deserted him when he was in possession. Opted to square the ball rather than shoot when United had two attackers to one Rangers defender.
Javier Hernández Balcázar - 5.5
His eagerness to show off his deft skills came unstuck against a blue defensive mountain. Needs to hold the ball up better against opponents as resolute as these.
• Substitutions
Jonathan Evans - N/A
Replaced Fabio at left-back late on.
Ryan Giggs - 6.0
Not even the Welsh maestro could breathe life into a moribund United when he replaced the stricken Valencia with a quarter of the game to go.
Michael Owen - 5.5
Did not get the kind of penalty box opportunity that he thrives upon.

Star man: Dimitar Berbatov
Edwin van der Sar - Didn't have a lot to do but beaten by two set pieces. 6
John O'Shea - Had quelled the flank threat of Cole but ruined it with a clumsy giveaway for Liverpool's second. 6
Nemanja Vidic - Had been well on top of Liverpool threat until some of his colleagues lost their way. 8
Jonny Evans - Had been an immaculate sidekick to Vidic, however, penalty was rash on his part. 6
Patrice Evra - Solid defending from the Frenchman, kept his channel intact. 7
Ryan Giggs - A steady, rather than spectacular, contribution from the Welshman. 6
Paul Scholes - Began with some eye-catching cross field passes but then couldn't regain his control. 7
Darren Fletcher - Largely in command but, when Liverpool had their lively period, he lost out. 7
Nani - Mixture of some good deliveries and another assist, but did spend lot of time on the floor. 7
Dimitar Berbatov - A quality triple from the Bulgarian, the deserved headline grabber. 10
Wayne Rooney - Still finding it a toil to rediscover that last killer bit of his game. 6

Tomasz Kuszczak - The Pole made some solid early saves and had no chance with Josh Wright's scorching opener. Did ride his luck after spilling a shot from Jonathan Forte, but continued to make a spate of saves after the interval and enjoyed an impressive evening.
Wes Brown - Subjected to constant pressure early on as Scunthorpe made a bright start to the match, but stood tall and also played a major role in Chris Smalling's fine goal.
Chris Smalling - Another impressive display from the youngster. Solid throughout in defensive terms, but displayed an attacking edge to his game with a perfect pass for Gibson's leveller and a superb finish of his own.
Rio Ferdinand - Back after illness, the skipper gave a near-faultless display in defence, admirably coping with the searing pace of Scunthorpe's Forte.
Rafael - Out of position on the left flank, but the Brazilian nevertheless endeavoured to lend attacking support wherever possible and got stuck in defensively. He'll relish a much-needed outing though, and will get sharper.
Ji-sung Park - A solid outing from the Korean, who grew in stature as the game progressed. Bagged a clinical finish early in the second half, and also prompted United's fifth with a fine run and shot.
Darron Gibson - Known for his powerful shooting, the Irishman's delicate lobbed equaliser betrayed his growing refinement - as did a quietly understated display of ball-playing in the centre of midfield.
Anderson - Wonderful to witness the Brazilian back in action from the start, and he caught the eye with a typically energetic display. Plenty of ball-carrying, tackling and some sublime passing too. Great to see.
Chicharito - Stationed out on the right, the Mexican was only able to give fleeting glimpses of his attributes, and his evening was curtailed when he was replaced by Gabriel Obertan midway through the second period.
Michael Owen - A fairly quiet first period had the striker limited to dropping deep and spreading the play, but after the break he showed his enduring class with a pair of goals; the first of which was a superb surge and finish.
Kiko Macheda - Neat and tidy throughout, the Italian would ordinarily have buried his first-half headed chance, and he was unfortunately flagged offside in the second period and denied a deserved goal.

Gabriel Obertan - Another player who needed to clock up some playing time after injury, and the Frenchman looked lively on the right flank.
Bebe - Given quarter of an hour on his debut, the Portuguese youngster quickly demonstrated the pace, power and potential which hastened his signing. Promising.

Star man: Nani
Barclays Premier League
Edwin van der Sar - Not many shots to deal with but his clearances were heart in mouth moments. 5
John O'Shea - Petrov didn't get the better of him too much but he couldn't cut out danger for second goal. 5
Patrice Evra - The Frenchman had an interesting one-to-one with Lee. 6
Nemanja Vidic - Normally relishes this kind of in-your-face battle but he didn't look at home. 6
Jonny Evans - Had an uncomfortable ride at times but it wasn't all one-sided. 6
Nani - United's most dangerous player. A goal and an assist was a good reward. 8
Darren Fletcher - Never able to get his foot in to win the midfield battle. 6
Paul Scholes - Was never given nor able to find the space to get his passing going. 6
Ryan Giggs - Didn't look on his game and couldn't provide any spark. 5
Wayne Rooney - Could call his effort as he looked for ball but his danger was minimal. 5
Dimitar Berbatov - Quietest game of the campaign after his wonderful display against Liverpool. 6
Substitutes
Park Ji-Sung - Lively but didn't halt Petrov for goal. 6
Federico Macheda - No danger. 5
Michael Owen - One moment of the real Owen. 7

VAN DER SAR Amazing first-half let-off when Soldado missed an open goal. Dutchman’s vast experience ensured he didn’t wobble. 7
RAFAEL Did simple things well i.e. cleared up rare danger moments . High pressure Euro experience won’t do him any harm. 7
FERDINAND Great Mr Cool is back – and partnered with Vidic. Did what was necessary in United’s textbook smash and grab raid. 8
VIDIC Lucky not to be embarrassed by Soldado as Valencia looked more likely to settle deadlock before double substitution. 7
EVRA Would have liked to have seen him further forward but his discipline helped ensure a sound defensive platform. 7
ANDERSON Rare big-time start for midfielder and had best chance to break deadlock for Reds in a dire first-half. Faded late on. 6
CARRICK Mistake giving up posession in danger area almost cost United. Understandably a bit rusty after so long out of team. 6
FLETCHER Held makeshift midfield together that lacked the sparkle and experience of veterans Scholes and Giggs. 7
PARK Battled away and such a pity his final ball failed to find target. All-action style just what Fergie needed in tough fixture. 6
NANI Showed glimpses of great skill as he continues to build his reputation after a stop-start beginning to his United career. 7
BERBATOV The lone ranger toiled to make an impact and his departure allowed introduction of Macheda, who created famous win. 6
SUBSTITUTES
HERNANDEZ (Anderson 75) Picked his spot brilliantly for the winner 9
MACHEDA (Berbatov 84) In less than a minute made the winner 8

Edwin van der Sar - 7
Early key moment in one versus one with Malbranque and stood up to the test
Rafael - 6
Didn't really get going as an attacking force. Caught out a couple of times defending
Rio Ferdinand - 8
Top man again. He steadied United's back line and frustrated Sunderland
Nemanja Vidic - 7
Looked a shade uneasy against Bent early on but became dominant force
John O'Shea - 7
His steadiest display of the season after finding himself under fire at times
Darren Fletcher - 5
Can never question his effort but he never got on top of midifled battle
Paul Scholes - 6
Nowhere near his most influential but was best in Reds engine room
Anderson - 5
Was pretty much dominated by Cattermole
Nani - 6
Most likely United man to break deadlock but not that many chances
Federico Macheda - 5
The Italian youngster was match winning hero on Wearside two seasons ago but never got close this time

Festive fixture changes
United fans can now plan Christmas with more certainty, following the announcement of fixture changes between 4 December and 5 January.
Five of the Reds' Barclays Premier League games, including the clashes at home to Arsenal and away to Chelsea, have been selected for live TV broadcast in the UK on Sky or ESPN.
The revised kick-offs and / or dates, all in UK time, are as follows:
Blackpool away, Saturday 4 December KO 17:30 (ESPN)
Arsenal home, Monday 13 December (originally Saturday 11 December) KO 20:00 (Sky)
Chelsea away, Sunday 19 December (originally Saturday 18 December) KO 16:00 (Sky)
Birmingham City away, Tuesday 28 December KO 20:00 (Sky)
West Bromwich Albion away, Saturday 1 January KO 12:45 (Sky)
The only other league game between 4 December and 5 January - at home to Sunderland, on Boxing Day - has not been selected for live TV and will therefore kick off at the traditional 15:00 GMT.

It had been such an easy afternoon but his inexplicable howler wrecked it
Rafael - 6
Had been a competent effort but he got caught up in second half sloppiness
Rio Ferdinand - 7
Was largely comfortably on top of everything that concerned him
Nemanja Vidic - 6
Had been solid but he didn't command defence when the nerves set in
Patrice Evra - 7
Had an excellent first half but like most others he didn't get into the second period
Michael Carrick - 5
Quiet throughout and rarely produced a killer pass
Ryan Giggs - 5

Anderson - 5
Gave away the free kick that got Albion back in it and generally didn't suggest he could alter things
Nani - 6
Made the first and scored second but then his impact faded dramatically
Javier Hernandez - 5

Manchester United
Tomasz Kuszczak - 6.0
Surely the easiest night of his career. Not forced into a single save.
Patrice Evra - 6.0
A solid defensive display from one of United's most reliable players. Grew as an offensive threat in the second-half, particularly on the occasions when Nani switched over the the left side.
Nemanja Vidic - 6.5
A comfortable night for the United captain, who marshalled the defence with aplomb and guided the inexperienced Chris Smalling through the game.
Chris Smalling - 6.0
An excellent game for the summer signing from Fulham to get some valuable minutes in a Manchester United shirt. Relatively untested but his composed manner will draw comparisons with Rio Ferdinand. He needs to avoid lapses in concentration but communicated well with Vidic.
Rafael Da Silva - 6.5
Formed a superb understanding on the right with Nani and always looked to attack when on the ball. Superb last ditch tackle denied Volkan Sen.
Ji-Sung Park - 5.5
The type of display United fans have come accustomed to over the years from the South Korean, who has refreshingly admitted to not being mentally prepared for the season. Unfaltering work rate but was not the man to unlock the door as his side searched for a second goal so was replaced by Gabriel Obertan.
Michael Carrick - 6.0
A solid if unspectular performance from the England midfielder, who played the deepest of the midfield trio. Some tidy defensive interceptions and simple short passes.
Darren Fletcher - 6.5
A player who looks like he wants to play for the club with everything he does on the pitch. Set the tempo by snapping into tackles from the first minute and always looking to pass and move.
Anderson - 6.5
A typically energetic performance from the Brazilian. Involved in much of the hosts' good work but did not quite have the final delivery when United needed more creativity. Replaced by Javier Hernandez due to injury.
Nani - Top of the Match 7.0
Wonderful solo goal from a player with all the natural talent to be a world-beater. Flitted in and out of the game but was always a menace when he got on the ball and some great deliveries.
Federico Macheda - 6.5
The Italian teenager will see Wayne Rooney's impending exit as a chance for him to step into the fold and he looked sharp from the off. Could have scored with early strike from a tight angle. Faded badly in second period.
• Substitutions
Gabriel Obertan - 6.0
Plenty of flicks and tricks for those supporters who were still awake.
Javier Hernández Balcázar - 6.0
Late substitute showed his goal threat but fired wide when well placed.

John O'Shea - 7
Was the stubborn obstacle in first half to Stoke's throw in ploy
Patrice Evra - 6
Raided well as a left wide midfielder but out of position for Stoke goal when he reverted to his normal role
Rio Ferdinand - 7
In his usual calm way he dealt with Stoke's aerial danger
Paul Scholes - 6
The veteran midfielder has not yet found his early season form and slack pass for Stoke's goal
Darren Fletcher - 6
Gave his usual 90 minutes of tireless work but nothing creative
Nani - 5
Not his usual self. Passing was off and he was dispossessed too often
Dimitar Berbatov - 6
Moments of class but not as much as we have seen of late
Javier Hernandez - 8

Benjamin Amos - 6.0
Not a great deal to do for the Old Trafford debutant and not culpable for either goal. Let himself down with his erratic distribution that was gobbled up by the Wolves defence.
Wesley Brown 6.5
Stand-in captain added usual aggressive authority at the back. Snapped into tackles on Hunt to prevent the Wolves danger man from gaining a foothold.
Chris Smalling - 7.0
Looked every inch Rio Ferdinand's doppelganger. Handled Ebanks-Blake with a calm authority and regularly snatched the balls of his toes without giving away a free-kick.
Jonathan Evans - 5.5
Offered none of Smalling’s elegance. Guilty of some rash challenges on the Wolves attackers and gave away a series of unnecessary free-kicks.
Fabio Da Silva - 6.0
Promising performance from the young Brazilian. Dealt well with Jarvis, who is one of the Premier League’s better right-wingers. Touch occasionally deserved him when asked to drive forward, however. Taken off for Neville.
Michael Carrick - 6.0
Experience made him look a cut above his coltish team-mates. Tried to link play up when possible. Talked before match of trying to re-discover his form and worked towards doing that. Should have buried 54th minute passed when played clean through by Carrick.
Darron Gibson - 5.0
Slow in touch and thought. The ex-Wolves loanee got trapped in the midfield mire and didn’t possess the wits to get himself out of it. Booked.
Ji-Sung Park - Top of the Match - 7.5
Experience made him look a cut above his raw team-mates. Tried to link play up when possible. Talked before match of trying to re-discover his form and went some way to doing that. Should have buried 54th minute pass when played clean through by Carrick before he finally put United ahead in the 70th minute. Removed in final moments to let Morrison make his first team bow.
Gabriel Obertan - 6.0
Drew gasps of adulation and despair in equal amount. Control went awry as often as it was accurate. Drove United forward for the opener and found Bebe in space when hemmed in by the Wolves defence.
Federico Macheda - 4.5
Frustrating night for the Italian as he registered his 12th United start without a goal. Frustrated supporters as his naivety saw him continually flagged offside. Fed one first half chance straight into Hennessey’s arms.
Bebe - 7.0
The Portuguese would have known every eye in Old Trafford was examining his every touch. Answered questions with goal as his powerful shot went in with the help of an Elokobi deflection. Showed plenty of promise with quick feet and turbo boosted sprint.
• Substitutions
Gary Neville - 5.5
Introduced in the 73rd minute. Experience didn't help United hold onto lead.
Ravel Morrison - N/A
Given late debutant as Ferguson threw on the youngster to waste time at death.
Javier Hernández Balcázar - 8.0
Brought on in the 81st minute as Ferguson went in search of a winner. Scot was duly rewarded as the man of the moment grabbed the winner in trademark lethal fashion.

Edwin van der Sar - 6
Dutch veteran made one crucial stop when the score was goalless but otherwise a peaceful night at the office
Rafael - 6
Young Brazilian's distribution let him down at times but his pace helped him atone for some positional mistakes
Patrice Evra - 6
Still not quite back to his rampaging best but was rarely tested at the back and was always there in support on left flank
Nemanja Vidic - 6
Had a few uncomfortable moments due to the pace of the Bursaspor attack but marshalled his troops effectively
Chris Smalling - 6
The young centre-half is looking more assured with each first-team outing and was hardly troubled by the Turkish side
Michael Carrick - 7
Quiet, understated but assured. Helped create Fletcher's goal and also made some timely interceptions at the back
Nani - 6
Was looking to build on his hugely impressive form of late but early injury curtailed the winger's night's work
Darren Fletcher - 7
The Scot spurned one gilt-edged chance in the first-half but made no mistake when presented with another after the break
Paul Scholes - 9
The ginger prince was at his irresistible best and ran the show from start to finish with a textbook midfield display
Dimitar Berbatov - 6
There's a fine line between being laid-back and downright lackadaisical and the striker blurred those boundaries
Gabriel Obertan - 8

Left-back had City flapping on more than one occasion when he ventured forward before being forced off through injury
Nemanja Vidic - 8
Reds skipper has looked vulnerable of late at times but was right back to his commanding best when it mattered most
Rio Ferdinand - 7
Provided the perfect counter-foil with Vidic and never looked threatened on what was a comfortable night's work
Darren Fletcher - 7
The rock-solid heartbeat in the Reds engine room the Scot never stopped working from the first minute to the last
Nani - 6
Took some heavy knocks early on which perhaps explains why all too often he was guilty of squandering possession away

Geordie showed just why he is back in Fergie's good books with a superb display oozing in poise, precision and passion

Rafael - 7
Hardly troubled defensively but provided inviting crosses a highlight
Rio Ferdinand - 6
Nothing to seriously ruffle his feathers
Nemanja Vidic - 5
Started shakily and never looked like his usual robust and stubborn self
Darren Fletcher - 5
Unable to boss the midfield and lift the Reds
Michael Carrick - 5
Never managed to get on top of Wigan's engine room
Park Ji-Sung - 5
Direct running at Wigan caused some problems and a couple of yellow cards but it was sporadic
Nani - 5
One of those days where nothing really happened for him
Gabriel Obertan - 5
The French winger didn't cause Latics any serious problems
Federico Macheda - 5
Frustrating lone front man on day when nothing created for him
Substitutes
Paul Scholes - 6
(sub Park 56) Livened up midfield
Wayne Rooney - 5
(sub Macheda 56) More needed to win back fans
Javier Hernandez - 6

Rangers v United: Player ratings
-menmedia.co.uk-
http://d.yimg.com/i/ng/sp/p5/20101124/22/3892534858.jpg
Van der Sar: Some questionable kicking early on, but saved well from Miller and Naismith in either half 7
O'Shea: Able to get forward and support Nani on a number of occasions, but delivery let him down at times 6
Evans: Caught flat-footed as Naismith had Rangers’ best chance of the second half, which was saved by Van der Sar 6
Smalling: Another step on the learning curve playing in the cauldron of Ibrox, but hardly put a foot wrong 7
Fabio: Out of position on a couple of occasions, but always keen to help in attack. Won decisive late penalty 7
Scholes: Controlled midfield and kept looking for a way through, but was often frustrated by Rangers stubborn defence 7
Carrick: Tormented Rangers with his intelligent use of the ball continually turning the screw as United dominated possession 8
Giggs: Struggled to find gaps in a congested final third. Put Rooney in with a second half cross that the striker headed wide 6
Nani: A constant threat, but spurned two first- half efforts and his decision-making let him down after the break 6
Berbatov: The Bulgarian was one of United’s main threats, putting in a tireless shift. Should have won a penalty early on 7
Rooney: Heavy touches on occasion, but hit the bar in first half and crucial late penalty will do his confidence world of good 6
Anderson: (for Scholes 67) Neat and tidy in possession
Hernandez: (for Berbatov 76) Provided late threat
Obertan: (for Nani 77) Gave United a different option on right
Not used: Amos, Evra, Brown, Macheda

Edwin van der Sar - 6
Could have enjoyed an afternoon at the Christmas markets he had so little to do
Patrice Evra - 7
Effective link up with Park down left caused Rovers problems
Rio Ferdinand - 7
As cool as you like on rare occasions he was called upon
Nemanja Vidic - 7
Blackburn had nothing in their locker to trouble the skipper
Rafael - 7
Frustrated El-Hadji Diouf with a solid defensive effort and dangerous in attack
Nani - 8
Two assists and a goal for himself was a destructive effort
Park Ji-Sung - 7
Well taken goal was the highlight of a positive display
Anderson - 8
The Brazilian looked leaner and was certainly quicker than he's been in a long while
Michael Carrick - 7
Neat and tidy in everything he did as Reds dominated midfield
Dimitar Berbatov - 10
Brilliant from start to finish. Clinical in box, marvellous touches and devastating vision
Wayne Rooney - 8
If he'd scored this would have been almost as good as he was last season
Substitutes

Westham United vs Manchester United, Player Rating
MEN
Tomasz Kuszczak - 5
Perhaps he could have done better with Spector's opener, but hardly helped by those in front of him
Chris Smalling - 5
Dragged here and there by West Ham's powerful and pacey attackers. A steep learning curve in his development
Fábio - 5
Wanted to get forward, but had his hands tied at the back and could do little to stem the flow of West Ham attacks
John O'Shea - 5
The experienced head at the back for United, he was chasing his tail as much as anyone else
Jonny Evans - 5
Terrorised by Obinna. He won't have many more difficult evenings than this. His struggles this season go on
Ryan Giggs - 6
Not his finest night in a United shirt
Anderson - 6
Prodded and probed as he tried to find openings, but couldn't find a way through
Darren Fletcher - 6
Simply couldn't handle the marauding Spector, who was allowed to burst from midfield far too easily
Gabriel Obertan - 5
Like Bebe, really struggled to impose himself in wide positions. Too wasteful in possession
Bebe - 5
Bright in flashes, but a peripheral figure until taken off at half time
Javier Hernandez - 6
A difficult task operating largely as a lone striker in the first half and short of opportunities in the second
Substitutes
Wes Brown - 5
(for Evans 73) little impact
Rafael - 5
(for Fabio 65) fared no better than his brother against Obinna
Federico Macheda - 5
(for Bebe 46) Starved of ammunition

MEN
Ben Amos - 7
Couldn't be blamed for the Valencia goal and also made a couple of vital stops on what was a solid night's work all told
Nemanja Vidic - 6
Solid and dependable at the back and looked to marshall the rest of the defence once Ferdinand was substituted
Rio Ferdinand - 6
England skipper was rarely troubled in the first half before being withdrawn as a precaution ahead of Arsenal showdown
Fábio - 6
Full of energy and commitment but his over-zealous approach and slap-dash passing almost cost United dear at times
Rafael - 6
Much to admire as with his brother but still reckless in the tackle at times while he also needs to work on his distribution
Anderson - 9
Fergie will find it impossible to leave him out on this form. Creative and destructive in equal measure and deserved his goal
Michael Carrick - 6
Glaringly at fault for the Spaniards' goal and though he tried to redeem himself, the midfielder was not on his A-game
Park Ji-Sung - 6
Never stopped working for the cause from the first whistle to the last
Nani - 6
One of those frustrating nights for the Portuguese winger when perspiration far outweighed any inspiration
Dimitar Berbatov - 6
Previously at OT, Berba hit five. This time, he looked as if he couldn't hit a barn door. When he did it was offside!
Wayne Rooney - 8
Provided more evidence that the Rooney of old is returning. At the hub of the Reds best work and saw a screamer hit the bar
Substitutes
Chris Smalling - 5
(Ferdinand 49) Had some nervy, akward moments
Ryan Giggs - 6
(Nani 81) Added a measure of calm as the clock ticked down
Darren Fletcher - 6
(Anderson 90) Little time to mark

New date for Seasiders
PremierLeague.com
A new date has been fixed for Blackpool's Barclays Premier League match against Manchester United.
The encounter at Bloomfield Road will now be played on Tuesday 25th January with a 7.45pm kick-off. The fixture was due to be played on 4th December but was postponed because of a frozen pitch.
Intriguing Encounter
The Seasiders brought in industrial heaters but the playing surface was unable to beat the Big Freeze. The re-arranged fixture will be an intriguing encounter between the newly-promoted side and the club with the most Premier League crowns.
Ian Holloway's Blackpool have made a hugely encouraging start to their first campaign in the Barclays Premier League. But Sir Alex Ferguson's men will be desperate to make the most of their match in hand over their title rivals.

Manchester United 1 Arsenal 0 - Ratings
MEN, Stuart Matheson - December 13, 2010
VAN DER SAR Despite Arsenal edging the possession, the veteran Dutch keeper had relatively little to do as Reds’ back four held line 7
RAFAEL Brazilian youngster showed why he has won Fergie’s trust with assured display both at the back and going forward 7
FERDINAND New youthful haircut and Rio rolled back the years with a textbook example of central defending. Looks back to his best 9
VIDIC The Reds’ skipper was a solid rock at the heart of the defence and slid in to deny Chamakh after van der Sar parried a shot 8
EVRA Those pre-match taunts look even more justified now. The Frenchman also won his personal duel with Alexander Song 8
NANI Pace and trickery kept Gunners defence busy all night. But his final ball and decision-making let him down too often 6
FLETCHER In a fierce and feisy midfield affair bore the brunt of numerous Arsenal assaults. Pressed deeper the longer it went on 7
CARRICK Harem-scarem affair meant Geordie had to show more steel than his customary silk but he met fire with fire at all times 7
ANDERSON Was a constant thorn in the Gunners’ side all night and so nearly capped a fine display with a second successive goal 8
PARK How the South Korean must love playing against Arsenal. Showed both lightning thought and reflexes to head he winner 8
ROONEY Looked up for it, even though he was asked to play as a lone striker, However fluffed his lines from the penalty spot 7
Subs
GIGGS (Anderson) Only on for a cameo but he successfully snuffed out the Arsenal threat 7
Not used: Kuszczak; Brown; Smalling; Berbatov; Hernandez; Obertan

Provisional Bridge date set

United's trip to face reigning Premier League champions Chelsea has been rescheduled for Tuesday, 1 March.
The encounter was initially due to be played last Sunday, but was postponed due to heavy snowfall around Stamford Bridge.
The new date is subject to neither side having an FA Cup fifth round replay to shoehorn into an already tight fixtures schedule. Should both teams exit the competition in the third or fourth round, the fixture could be brought forward to an earlier weekend.
Should the Reds travel to West London on 1 March, however, it will fall amid a series of away games. United travel to Marseille (23 February), Wigan (26 February) and Liverpool (5 March).
Though Sir Alex admits last weekend's postponement perhaps suited Chelsea more than United, with the champions currently struggling for top form, he retains confidence that his side can end a long winless run at Stamford Bridge.
"They were in a bad bit of form and they were probably quite happy to get the game off; that’s one way of looking at it," the manager told his pre-Sunderland press conference. "But at the end of the day it doesn’t matter when we’re going to Chelsea, we’ve got to be confident of going there with the right team to win."

No defensive worries but didn't hurt Sunderland with normal attacking game

Steady Eddie allowed others to get on with the destructive work
Ryan Giggs - 8
Early penetrative thrust had Sunderland on back foot

Dominated the engine room for an hour and that was the platform the Reds' success
Park Ji-Sung - 6

Birmingham City1 - Manchester United1, Player Rating
MEN, James Robson - Tuesday 28 December
Star man: Dimitar Berbatov
Edwin van der Sar - 7
In his last game before his position comes under threat from Anders Lindegaard, it was an easy night's work for the veteran until Bowyer's strike
Rio Ferdinand - 7
Strolled through proceedings as Birmingham stuck to a limited system of only Jerome up front - until Zigic's entrance changed everything
Rafael - 7
Much of Birmingham's best play came down United's right, which prevented Rafael from getting forward as often as he'd like - but looked solid at the back
Nemanja Vidic - 7
Left red-faced when caught out by Jerome in the first half. In the end he had to bring down the Birmingham forward - earning a yellow card when the crowd were baying for red. Other than that, solid
Patrice Evra - 7
Birmingham rarely looked like getting at the Frenchman - still he seldom took the opportunity get down the left
Anderson - 6
United's stand out performer in recent weeks, but in a congested midfield the Brazilian wasn't at his creative best
Michael Carrick - 6
Struggled as much as anyone to assert himself in a packed out midfield battle - but stuck doggedly to his task as a buffer in front of the back four
Ryan Giggs - 7
Might have scored with a first half cross that hit the post. Got stuck in the midfield drudgery in the first 45 minutes, but had more of an impact after the break
Darron Gibson - 7
Showed plenty of energy to ensure United weren't overrun by Birmingham's five-man midfield and it was his ball that set up Berbatov's opener
Wayne Rooney - 7
Went into the game without a goal in open play all season and never looked likely to change that stat. Earned more than one ear-bashing from Berbatov for some slack touches. How times have changed
Dimitar Berbatov - 8
The red hot Bulgarian is in the form of his life. Scored a brilliant and crucial goal and should have had another, but for the width of the post
Substitutes
Darren Fletcher - 6
(Anderson 73) Brought on to see out the win, but could do nothing as Birmingham shared the points
Javier Hernandez - 6
(Gibson 90) No dramatic entrance on this occasion

West Bromwich Albion1 - Manchester United2, Player Rating
MEN, James Robson - Saturday 01 January
Star man: Javier Hernandez
Tomasz Kuszczak - 7
Could do nothing about Morrison's thunderbolt. Otherwise untroubled
Gary Neville - 5
On his 400th Premier League appearance was lucky not to concede a penalty and get a red card
Rio Ferdinand - 6
Lazy challenge on Thomas to concede penalty and kept on his toes throughout
Nemanja Vidic - 6
His weak headed clearance led to Morrison's strike and he looked shaky all afternoon
Patrice Evra - 6
Earned a touchline ear-bashing from Ferguson for his wastefulness.
Darren Fletcher - 6
Gave away possession far too easily, putting more pressure on United's defence
Michael Carrick - 6
Sloppy in possession and short of ideas creatively
Anderson - 6
Pick of the bunch in midfield - but that's not saying much
Wayne Rooney - 7
Looked more like his old self, if not vintage and at last a goal from open play
Gabriel Obertan - 4
Squandered good positions time and time again before being given the shepherd's crook in the second half
Dimitar Berbatov - 6
Offered little in the way of an attacking threat
Substitutes
Fábio - 6
(for Neville 71) Helped stem the tide
Darron Gibson - 6
(for Obertan 60) Showed some bright touches
Javier Hernandez
Javier Hernandez - 8

MEN, Stuart Mathieson - Tuesday 04 January
Star man: Nani
Tomasz Kuszczak - 6
The Pole didn't have a lot to do but couldn't keep out Whitehead's header
Chris Smalling - 6
Settled in comfortably as Ferdinand's stand in but could have been better positioned for goal
Nemanja Vidic - 6
Had some heart stopping moments clearing his lines on occasions and was culpable for goal
Rafael - 7
The Brazilian defended stoutly and attacked with purpose and skill when allowed
Patrice Evra - 6
Didn't react to Whitehead's move into space for the equaliser
Ryan Giggs - 5
Copped some abuse from some sections of the crowd after he ended up in too many cul de sacs
Darren Fletcher - 6
The Scot was his usual industrious self in the engine room but lacked a creative element
Darron Gibson - 5
Some early trademark piledrivers promised much but it was a relatively quiet effort after that
Nani - 7
An assist and a goal was a good return after missing the festive season with a hip problem
Dimitar Berbatov - 6
The Bulgarian didn't really get close to adding to hi post Christmas haul
Javier Hernandez - 7
Impudent touch for goal and worked his socks off

Non nonsense solid effort from the French full back
Rio Ferdinand - 8
rought a calm assuredness to Reds defence that Liverpool were unable to ruffle
Jonny Evans - 7
The Northern Ireland international looked more like his old confident self
Rafael - 9
He might be slight of frame but the Brazilian was a pillar of strength for Reds
Darren Fletcher - 7
Big game and his usual big game battling performance
Ryan Giggs - 7
Rolled back the years at times and his cool penalty got Reds on road
Nani - 6
Occasional threats but not the impact we've come to expect from the winger
Michael Carrick - 7
Survived the Gerrad tackle and put in a steady display in engine room
Javier Hernandez - 6
Only one chance for the Mexican to get his teeth into
Dimitar Berbatov - 7

Edwin van der Sar - Measured Scholes-like pass was root of United's fourth! Nothing else to do as a keeper 6
Patrice Evra - Easily on top of the Bentley threat and had some decent attacks himself 6
Chris Smalling - Birmingham didn't offer much to test him but what he was asked to do was done with ease 7
Nemanja Vidic - This was an easy afternoon for someone enjoying the formidable form he is showing 7
John O'Shea - Eased back into it with a solid enough return to starting action for the first time since November 7
Anderson - Non-stop bundle of energy who kept Reds ticking over at high tempo 8
Michael Carrick - Early tackle from Hleb left him limping before he was taken off after 24 minutes 6
Ryan Giggs - 55 minutes largely of old time Giggs with a key hand in three of United's four goals 7
Nani - Had Brum on back foot all the time. Not everything came off but goal was a beauty 8
Wayne Rooney - Early second half miss summed up his goal torment but key role in three goals 8

His defence left him terribly exposed in the first 45 minutes but he was solid
Nemanja Vidic - 6
Not a first half he'll look back on with pride but he did dig in and improve
Chris Smalling - 7
Struggled when Blackpool were on top but was a tower of strength in the latter stages
Patrice Evra - 6

Such a calm comeback he could have tweeted on the pitch during the match
Nemanja Vidic - 8
Solid at the back and a wonderful striker's finish capped it off
John O'Shea - 6
Mainly up against Ashley Young and did well
Michael Carrick - 7
Villa's midfield was a handful at times but he wasn't outplayed
Nani - 8
Got knocked about a bit but when he was on his feet he caused problems
Darren Fletcher - 5
Double vision accounted for him just past the half hour stage
Ryan Giggs - 8
Check this fella's birth certificate it can't be right. Great service
Wayne Rooney - 8
Back to his liveliest and dangerous best from last season at last
Dimitar Berbatov - 7

Nani - 5
Got Reds off to a flyer but didn't cause Wolves enough problems
Michael Carrick - 4
Never halted the flow from Wolves midfield nor got Reds moving forward
Darren Fletcher - 6
The best battler of the lot and did attempt a few decent raking passes

The magic was missing from the evergreen winger this time

MEN, Stuart Mathieson - 12 February, 15:00
Star man: Nani
Edwin van der Sar - 7
Was a calming safe pair of hands behind a resolute defence
Patrice Evra - 7
Looked like he was going to be in for battering early on but he fought back
John O'Shea - 7
Even his critics will find it hard to pick holes in a solid effort
Nemanja Vidic - 8
Disproved the theory that without Ferdinand he's not as dominating
Chris Smalling - 9
Considered by enemy camp as potential weak link but the derby debutant was magnificent
Paul Scholes - 7
A few wayward passes by his standards and he didn't dominate Blues like he usually does
Nani - 9
From the off he looked likely to be United's major weapon. Goal was clinical and an assist
Ryan Giggs - 7
Sometimes it was Giggs at his tantalising best other times it was him at his most frustrating
Anderson - 7
Tought his corner decently in a powerful midfield tussle
Darren Fletcher - 7
Times when it was difficult to win the ball back. Dug in in demanding battle
Wayne Rooney - 8
When he finally got away from the Kompany he was keeping he produced a stunne

Rafael - 5
Not under too much pressure defensively but didn't reveal his attacking abilities
Fábio - 5
Blew a great opportunity to grab a goal but on the whole it was steady
John O'Shea - 5
Efficient at right back. Efficient in centre of defence but it started to go wrong at left back
Wes Brown - 6
Rare outing and he came up with winner. Solid apart from one slip
Michael Carrick - 5
Poisoned chalice for a player for his standing. Got through in second gear
Darron Gibson - 5
A few searching through balls in first half but in second he disappeared
Anderson - 5
Probably grateful he didn't have to go through the full 90 minutes
Gabriel Obertan - 4
Got on his bike a couple of times but nothing came of it
Javier Hernandez - 4

Couple of early errors but he didn't let that affect his confidence
John O'Shea - 6
Started off uneasily against Moses but he steadied his personal ship
Patrice Evra - 7
Wigan didn't get any joy down his channel as he closed up shop consistently
Nemanja Vidic - 8
Dealt stubbornly with Rodallega and got his head on virtually everything that came into box
Michael Carrick - 6
Key defiant figure in front of back four blocking off Wigan's attacks
Darren Fletcher - 6
Employment as right winger meant he wasn't his normal self but put in some inviting crosses

Chelsea2 - Manchester United1
MEN, Stuart Mathieson - 01 March, 19:45
Star man: Wayne Rooney
Edwin van der Sar - 7
Stunning twin save to deny Ivanovic but had little chance with both Chelsea goals. How United will miss him when he retires
Patrice Evra - 6
Was clattered from pillar to the post in what was a brusing encounter. Struggled to break free from defensive shackles
John O'Shea - 6
Neat and tidy in most of his work but the Reds defender was forced onto the back foot after the break
Nemanja Vidic - 6
Put his body on the line, literally, to deny Chelsea twice but at fault for equaliser and late red card capped miserable night
Chris Smalling - 7
Played another blinder before conceding harsh penalty for challenge on Zhirkov. Didn't deserve to be on the losing side
Nani - 6
Pace and trickery caused Ivanovic all ends of problems early on though the winger's influence waned after the break
Darren Fletcher - 7
Revels in the big match atmosphere and the Scot was again at his combative best in the congested middle ground
Paul Scholes - 7
The heartbeat of the Reds engine room. Smooth passing and canny eye for an opening caused headaches for Chelsea
Michael Carrick - 6
Fine first half display but found himself overrun in the middle after the break as Chelsea began to turn up the heat
Javier Hernandez - 6
Given a surprise starting nod by Fergie but wasn't afforded any of the space or freedom he found at the DW Stadium
Wayne Rooney - 8
Stunning first-half strike proved he wasn't in the least bit affected by the furore over his challenge at Wigan. Top display
Substitutes
Fábio - 6
(Evra 80) Very little time to make much difference
Ryan Giggs - 6
(Scholes 71) Not the way he wanted to mark his 606th display
Dimitar Berbatov - 6

Tomasz Kuszczak - 6
Other than trying to save either of Noble's two penalties, which was always going to be a big task, Kuszczak had a very comfortable game filling in for Edwin van der Sar.
Fabio - 7
Most United supporters will be wondering if Sir Alex had Rafael at right-back, because his twin put in a very good performance combing well with his wing partner on that side of the field.
Chris Smalling - 5
Caught completely in la-la land when West Ham drove forward and eventually got the opening goal, Smalling was more of a threat on the offensive end than .
Nemanja Vidic - 6
Still showing signs of the injury that kept him out of action before the international break, but Vidic reorganized the United back-line well in the second half.
Patrice Evra - 4
Not his normal reliable self in either attack or defense, Evra put in a stinker, and, inexcusably, was at fault for the first penalty, Ferguson was withdrawn at halftime.
Darron Gibson - 6
Due to injuries and suspension, Gibson was deployed in the center of the midfield, and despite popular belief, he put in a disciplined performance to combat Scott Parker's style of play.
Michael Carrick - 7
Consistently overlooked and criticized for not being an influential midfielder, but Carrick he showed class and composure against his former club.
Ryan Giggs - 7
Given a free role to create things against West Ham, Giggs was asked to play left-back in the second half, which he played quite remarkably.
Antonio Valencia - 8 (Man of the Match)
Up against a much slower and weaker left-back in Wayne Bridge, Valencia tore at him all game long and was the most consistent player for United over the course of the match.
Ji-Sung Park - 5
Playing in his first game in nearly four months for United, Park had a golden chance to score, but Park will need a couple of more games to get the cobwebs off his .
Wayne Rooney - 8
Very ineffective in the first half, Rooney shook off that form with three superbly taken goals in the second half, which included scoring his first goal from a free-kick since his first hat-trick at United.
Substitutions
Javier Hernandez - 7
Came on a halftime substitute to inject more pace going forward, Chicharito did just that and added another goal to his total for his positive contribution.
Dimitar Berbatov - 8
After being over looked for the first 65 minutes of the match, Bebratov reaffirmed that he is all about the team and inspired the four-goal onslaught in the last 25 minutes.
Nani - 5
Came on as a late substitution so Rooney would get a standing ovation from the away supporters, Nani held the ball up in his seven, or so, minute cameo.
Overall - 8
Despite conceding a further two goals away from Old Trafford, Manchester United turned out their best away performance of the season with the four goal fightback against West Ham United.

MEN, James Robson - Saturday 23 April, 15:00
Star man: Javier Hernandez
Edwin van der Sar - 7
Produced fine save to deny Rodwell's deflected 20 yard effort
Fábio - 7
Always in control at the back. Crossed the ball in when Distin deflected onto own post
Jonny Evans - 7
Involved in a tangle with Jermaine Beckford that had Everton screaming for a penalty. Solid otherwise
John O'Shea - 6
Didn't offer enough in an attacking sense. Substituted shortly after half time.
Rio Ferdinand - 7
Lucky not to concede penalty when leaning on Anichebe in the second half, otherwise a quiet day's work
Darron Gibson - 6
Comfortable enough in central midfield, but struggled to have an impact
Anderson - 7
Produced several defence-splitting passes from range. United's most creative force
Antonio Valencia - 7
Got stronger as the game went on with numerous telling crosses including the one for Hernandez' goal
Nani - 6
One first half effort was inadvertently deflected wide by Hernandez. Got into good positions, but final ball let him down
Javier Hernandez - 8
Excellent movement caused Everton problems, twice frustrated by Howard before his crucial strike
Wayne Rooney - 7
Worked hard to create openings for others, but rarely looked like getting on the score sheet himself
Substitutes
Patrice Evra - 7
(for O'Shea 57) looked more like his old self. Some good crosses
Ryan Giggs - 6
(for Gibson) Added more threat when brought on
Michael Owen - 6
(for Nani 63) Looked lively
