Mallorca Dikeluarkan dari Europa League
Reky Herling Kalumata - detiksport

Cup winners to get direct route to Europa League
ESPNsoccernet - October 5, 2010

Winners of domestic cups from the top six European leagues will go directly into the Europa League from 2012-13, UEFA has revealed.

Currently, only the Europa League holders go straight into the group stage by right, but the new measure, passed by its executive committee at a meeting on Monday, will now benefit the top ranked nations in Europe and see the national cup winners avoid the final qualifying round.

England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany and Russia are currently the associations who would profit from the move, although UEFA spokesman Rob Faulkner maintained that if the cup winners had qualified for the Champions League, then the runners-up would go into the qualifying tournament. The direct spot would then go to the top-placed league qualifier from the same country.

Uefa rejects Sevilla appeal
Spanish outfit claim 'keeper was not eligible to play
SkySport - 11th October 2010

Sevilla's appeal to overturn their defeat by Paris St Germain in a Europa League match for the alleged false registration of the goalkeeper Apoula Edel has been rejected by Uefa.

The Primera Liga side went down to a 1-0 loss at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan with Nene scoring the only goal of the game 14 minutes from time.

However, the Spanish outfit then claimed after the game that Cameroon-born Edel was not eligible to play.

French police have cleared Edel of wrongdoing but the Spanish club could make a final bid to win its case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Uefa says its appeals panel dismissed Sevilla's protest and upheld an earlier ruling by its disciplinary body.

Edel hit the headlines after being accused of lying about both his age and his name by his former coach and agent former coach in Cameroon Nicolas Phillibert.

Philibert, who reportedly lent Edel money and helped him find a club in Armenia, claimed the player was 29 and not 24 and was named Ambroise Beyamena.

Edel and PSG have filed a claim of defamation against him.

Europa League draw
Man City face Greek test
ESPNsoccernet - December 17, 2010

Manchester City will face Greek side Aris Thessaloniki in the first knock-out stages of the Europa League while Liverpool will take on Sparta Prague.

Both Premier League sides should be confident of making the last 16 following Friday's draw, but Rangers have a tougher-looking test against Sporting Lisbon.

Roberto Mancini's City will be aware however that Aris stunned the holders Atletico Madrid in the group stage - winning 3-2 away, a result which ultimately knocked the Spanish side out of the competition.

Liverpool may have been the draw specialists in the group phase, having tied four of their six games, but in Sparta they will face a side who have proved equally difficult to beat, having drawn three of their group matches.

Reds manager Roy Hodgson promised to play a strong side in the latter stages of the competition.

"By that stage of the season we'll be playing three matches a week and I won't have the luxury I have had so far of sometimes sparing players in the Europa League,'' he said.

"We're at the knockout stage now so I won't have that option because it will be important to put out our best team every time if we want to go further in the competition.

2I think it's a very good draw. There are a lot of good teams in the competition, even the unseeded sides.

"A lot of those teams are from the far end of Europe in places which are difficult to get to and about which you would find it difficult to get a lot of information.

"Sparta Prague are a team everyone knows well. Prague is a very reachable city and the team will be easier to scout and easier to find information about than the Rubin Kazans and Kharkivs of the draw.

"I always think it's better to be in the central part of Europe because the travelling is easier, it takes less time and maybe as a result takes less out of the players.''

If they get through, City will face Besiktas or Dynamo Kiev in the last 16, while Liverpool would face Lech Poznan or Braga. If Rangers progress, they would face Lille or PSV Eindhoven.

Ribery: Liga Europa 'Sampah'

http://images.detik.com/content/2011/03/21/1033/ribery-reuters.jpg

Birmingham granted Europe licence

http://www.soccerway.com/photo_dynamic/orig/250/relative/12427235860.jpg

League Cup winners Birmingham City will be allowed to take part in the Europa League next season after being granted a licence by UEFA.

There was mounting speculation that Birmingham, who beat Arsenal 2-1 in the final on February 27, would not be able to compete in continental competition next season due to the club's allegedly precarious financial situation.

But an injection of funds from owner Carson Yeung has reportedly satisfied the concerns of European football's governing body UEFA.

"This means we can all focus on what are really exciting times for the club," acting chairman Peter Pannu said.

"Then we can all look forward to competing in the Europa League alongside some of the continent's finest clubs."

"Being granted the licence - which we were always confident of achieving - will put to rest once and for all some of the scaremongering that has surrounded the club."

Inggris Dapat Bonus Jatah Liga Europa
