Arsenal star Walcott ruled out for up to six weeks
ESPNsoccernet - September 9, 2010

Arsenal have confirmed that an ankle injury sustained on international duty with England will keep Theo Walcott sidelined for between four and six weeks.
Walcott turned over on his right ankle in the early stages of England's 3-1 win over Switzerland and was stretchered off before being taken to hospital for scans on the problem.
Arsene Wenger now admits that with Nicklas Bendtner still out for "three to four weeks" and Robin van Persie absent until the end of October, his attacking options have been hit further by the loss of Walcott.
The news comes as a cruel blow to a player who has suffered extensively with injury problems in recent seasons, but had scored four goals in his past two appearances for the Gunners.
"The tackle looked quite bad," Wenger said. "When you see how it turned his ankle I thought it would be three or four days or it would be four to six weeks. Unfortunately it will be four to six weeks.
"We had some good news about the scan because at some stage we were scared it could be worse. But overall it is a question of patience and rehabilitation."
Arsenal confirmed on Tuesday that an ankle injury sustained by Van Persie in a 2-1 win over Blackburn was more serious than first feared. "That is bad news," Wenger said of Van Persie's injury. "At the start we were optimistic. Maybe a bit too much, thinking it would be one or two weeks. But the damage was bigger than expected and he will be four to six weeks."
However, Johan Djourou, Denilson and Sebastien Squillaci should all be available for Saturday's game against Bolton, while French midfielder Samir Nasri is close to returning to first-team action after undergoing knee surgery.
"He could even be involved against Bolton," Wenger said. "He has had a very good preparation and joins in [training] tomorrow. If needed I will integrate him in the squad for Bolton but for sure he will be back for our first Champions League game against Braga."
Defoe out for six weeks
Striker to miss start of Champions League campaign
SkySport.com, Pete O'Rourke - 9th September 2010
http://img.skysports.com/10/08/218x298/Defoe_2494268.jpg
Tottenham Hotspur star Jermain Defoe has been ruled out for six weeks with an ankle injury.
Defoe sustained the injury midway through the second half of England's win over Switzerland on Tuesday night.
The striker hoped the injury was not too serious after the match, but scans have shown Defoe has suffered ankle ligament damage.
The injury is set to sideline Defoe for six weeks at least and means he will miss several of Spurs' Champions League group games, starting with next week's trip to Werder Bremen.
The 27-year-old is also likely to sit out England's next Euro 2012 qualifier at home to Montenegro next month.
The news is a major blow for Defoe as he was establishing himself as a regular in Fabio Capello's side after scoring a hat-trick in last week's win over Bulgaria.
The injury is another headache for Spurs boss Harry Redknapp as he is already without Michael Dawson for two months after the defender sustained a knee injury against Bulgaria.
"Even if it's a bad sprain, you're still talking about six weeks or so, because it's a nasty one," said Redknapp.

Balotelli to undergo knee surgery
ESPNsoccernet - September 8, 2010
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/0908/mariobalotelli20100817_205x285.jpg
Manchester City have announced that new signing Mario Balotelli will have knee surgery and could be sidelined for six weeks.
Balotelli made his long-awaited move to Eastlands from Inter in mid-August but, having made an instant impact with a goal on his debut against FC Timisoara, he sustained an injury in the same match.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Striker Mario Balotelli is to undergo surgery on his injured knee that could rule him out for up to six weeks.
"The Italian's injury is to the lateral meniscus, one of the two most crucial structures in the knee, and medical wisdom is to try and encourage the problem to heal without recourse to an operation.
"It was hoped that the symptoms would settle down but, once Balotelli began to step up his recovery programme this week, it became clear that action would need to be taken."
Balotelli has now flown back to Milan for the operation.
Hodgson: Kuyt could be out for more than a month
ESPNsoccernet - September 8, 2010
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/0908/dirkkuytcelebratesanmarino20100903_275x155.jpg
Roy Hodgson fears Dirk Kuyt could be out for longer than the four weeks first anticipated following his shoulder injury, though the unpredictable nature of the problem means the forward could also return ahead of schedule.
Kuyt sustained the injury during training with the Netherlands national side this week and was immediately ruled out for four weeks by Liverpool's medical staff.
While Kuyt said earlier on Wednesday he hopes to be fit to face his former side FC Utrecht in the Europa League on Septemer 30, Hodgson is concerned that the Dutchman may be unavailable for a prolonged period of time.
"It could be more than four weeks," Hodgson said. "It's one of those injuries where it's very difficult for the doctor to say and I think four weeks is a very conservative estimate. If we're lucky it could be earlier, but it could be longer. We have to be very careful because it's the type of injury that has to be treated with a lot of respect.
"It's a great blow for us because Dirk is an important member of our first team. He does a job which is not easy to replace because he has all the qualities required for that role on the field.
"I was very sad to see such a thing happen, especially in a training session. It would have been bad enough to happen playing for the national team in a competitive match, but for it to happen in training was even more of a blow.
"He's a quick mender and he has a great mentality and attitude towards recovery, so he will be back as quick as is humanly possible. But we're looking at least a month and possibly longer."
However, Liverpool do expect young striker David Ngog to be available for the weekend's game at Birmingham City despite being withdrawn from the France Under-21 squad due to a hamstring injury.
"He has been nursing a problem but is much better now," Hodgson said. "We were obliged to withdraw him from the French Under-21 squad because when they got together ten days ago he wasn't fit.
"The French people were very good about that and realised there was a problem. I am hoping that he will recover in time for this weekend. We have nursed him through and hopefully he will train either today or Friday."
Hodgson also delivered a positive bulletin on the fitness of Brazilian full back Fabio Aurelio, who is currently unavailable due to an Achilles problem.
"Fabio is making very good progress and is definitely moving in the right direction," Hodgson said. "It was a relatively minor problem but one we had to nip in the bud because Achilles injuries can be very problematic."

Injury blow for Rodwell
ESPNsoccernet - September 10, 2010
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/0910/jackrodwell20100829_275x155.jpg
Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell has been ruled out until December after suffering ankle ligament damage.
Rodwell was taken off after 20 minutes of Everton's 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on August 29 and subsequently had to withdraw from the England Under-21 squad.
Medical staff at the club had to wait for the swelling to go down but, having now carried out full tests, it has emerged that Rodwell will be out for three months with the problem.
Rodwell, 19, signed a new five-year contract at Everton in the summer and forced his way into the starting line-up against Villa after an impressive showing in the 5-1 Carling Cup win over League One side Huddersfield.

Lampard to miss Hammers clash
Soccernet - September 10, 2010
Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that England midfielder Frank Lampard will miss Saturday's match against former club West Ham United after failing to recover from hernia surgery in time.
Lampard's absence is softened by the return of captain John Terry, who like Lampard, missed England's Euro 2012 qualifying victories over Bulgaria and Switzerland.
Terry has managed to recover from the hamstring problem that forced him to pull out of the England squad.
"John is available to play tomorrow," said Ancelotti. "Lampard needs to have more time to rest. He trained with us this week and has done very well, but he needs to have more time. Maybe he'll be involved in the Champions League next week but not tomorrow.
"I think these players needed to have a rest because they had problems. Terry resolved this problem during the two weeks. Lampard had to have the surgery. He did very well because, in seven days, he was able to train again. But obviously we want to give him more time to recover 100%."

Redknapp focusing on bright side
Soccernet - September 5, 2010
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits he was relieved to discover Michael Dawson is expected to be fit within eight weeks.
Dawson was stretchered off during England's 4-0 victory over Bulgaria on Friday night after his leg collapsed beneath him in a freak accident early in the second half.
Scans showed the 26-year-old defender had only sprained left knee ligaments and a left ankle ligament and he could be back in action by the end of next month.
"First of all, it's a big blow for Michael and a great shame for him," Redknapp told the club's official website, "but watching it live, I thought it could have been worse than it's turned out.
"It could have been his cruciate ligament and that would have been the end of the season for him but, as it is, it's not such a long job and he should be back in a couple of months."
Arsenal announce Robin van Persie injury setback
ESPNsoccernet - September 7, 2010
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/0830/robinvanpersieinjured20100828_275x155.jpg
Arsenal have confirmed that Robin van Persie is expected to be sidelined until the middle of October as a result of his ankle injury.
Van Persie suffered the problem in a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers and was initially expected to be out of action for around a month, meaning he would have been hoping to return to action before the end of September.
That now looks an unrealistic prognosis with Arsenal confirming that his likely period of recuperation has been extended by around a further two weeks.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Robin van Persie will have to wait a little longer before he is back in the first-team frame. The Dutchman injured his ankle against Blackburn Rovers on August 28 and will be sidelined for longer than first anticipated. Van Persie is likely to be out of action until mid-October."
Van Persie will certainly miss the club's first two Champions League games against Braga and Partizan Belgrade and could be unavailable for up to five Premier League games, including the trip to Chelsea on October 3.

Fulham rocked as Zamora suffers broken leg
ESPNsoccernet - September 12, 2010
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/0911/bobbyzamorainjury20100911_275x155.jpg
Fulham striker Bobby Zamora is facing at least four months out after breaking his leg in Saturday's Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Zamora, who signed a new four-year contract with the Cottagers on Friday, was brought down by a hard challenge from Karl Henry and although the Wolves skipper won the ball, Zamora's right ankle was trapped in the tackle and his leg buckled awkwardly.
The break was just above the player's ankle, meaning a long recovery period.
The striker bagged eight Premier League goals last season but scored another three in the FA Cup and three in the Europa League as Fulham lost to Atletico Madrid in the final. He earned his England debut last month in the international friendly against Hungary at Wembley.
Fulham manager Mark Hughes revealed that he could be out for longer if surgery reveals further damage.
"If the injury is as we think it is, it's likely to be four months,'' he said. "If the surgeon goes in tomorrow and finds other damage rather than just the break, which is four centimetres above his ankle, it will be even longer than that.
"The four months looks like a minimum.
"Bobby had got to a point where he was playing at a high level and producing week-in, week-out. Bobby would be honest enough to admit he hasn't been able to maintain that level of performance over long periods during his career.
"But he's reached that point so to be taken out of top level football for four months is a real disappointment for him and us. I've spoken to him already and he seems to be in good spirits.''

McFadden cruciate injury blow
Soccernet - September 17, 2010
Birmingham forward James McFadden will be out of action "for the foreseeable future" after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage in training on Friday.
The 27-year-old Scotland international will see a specialist on Monday with a view to unfergoing surgery on the injury.
A club statement read: "Birmingham City can confirm that James McFadden sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage to his left knee in training today.
"McFadden will see a specialist on Monday with a view to surgery and will be out of action for the foreseeable future."
McFadden has featured in all four of Blues' Premier League games so far this season as well as Scotland's opening two Euro 2012 qualifiers earlier this month.
The former Motherwell and Everton striker's only goal of the campaign to date came in last month's Carling Cup victory over Rochdale.

Messi injured in Barcelona win
Soccernet - September 19, 2010
Barcelona overcame a tough challenge away at Atletico Madrid to win 2-1 and move up to fifth in the Spanish table, although the result was tempered by an injury to Lionel Messi.
Messi netted in the 13th minute after he was put through, but Raul Garcia levelled the scores just over ten minutes later. Goalkeeper David De Gea stopped Messi and David Villa from putting Barcelona ahead again, but could do nothing about Gerard Pique's powerful strike from close range after a corner.
Barcelona pushed to increase their lead in the second half, but once again found De Gea in inspired form and in the final minute of the game Messi was clattered by Tomas Ujfalusi - who was shown a straight red card - and stretchered off in tears with his ankle visably swollen.
The initial news was good, however, as Barca coach Pep Guardiola said after the match: ''He'll be having more tests tomorrow, but in principle a break has been ruled out. He's injured and the doctors will tell us how he is. Let's hope the first diagnosis is correct and we can help get him fit again. He's very sad and in tears. These things happen in football.''

Messi escapes serious injury, set to miss two games
ESPNsoccernet - September 20, 2010
Barcelona star Lionel Messi will miss the club's next two games with a sprained ankle, after tests revealed that the injury he picked up against Atletico Madrid is not as serious as first thought.
Messi was stretchered off the Vicente Calderon pitch in tears towards the end of Barcelona's 2-
1 victory over Atletico after a late tackle from Tomas Ujfalusi left the Argentina playmaker in agony.
Ujfalusi received his marching orders for the challenge after picking up a second yellow card and Messi's reaction prompted fears that he may have either broken his ankle or suffered serious ligament damage.
But Barca boss Pep Guardiola eased fears after the match, saying: ''He'll be having more tests tomorrow, but in principle a break has been ruled out. He's injured and the doctors will tell us how he is.
"Let's hope the first diagnosis is correct and we can help get him fit again. He's very sad and in tears. These things happen in football."
After tests on Monday, including an MRI scan, the club revealed that Messi suffered a sprained ankle and is certain to miss matches against Sporting Gijon on Monday and Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.
"Testing has confirmed that the player has suffered a sprain to the internal and external lateral ligaments in his right ankle and there are no associated bone lesions."
The news means that Messi may be fit to return for Barcelona's trip to Russia to face Rubin Kazan in the Champions League next Wednesday, though the club stressed that it will be up to Guardiola to decide when he returns.

Arsenal await news on Gibbs metatarsal injury
ESPNsoccernet - September 21, 2010
Arsene Wenger fears that his fitness problems have deepened following a metatarsal inury to Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs.
Arsenal were forced to substitute the young defender after 102 minutes of Tuesday's 4-1 Carling Cup victory over Tottenham Hotspur as Gibbs hobbled off the pitch.
Gibbs sustained a lengthy injury last season - depriving him of the chance to fight for a place in England's World Cup squad - and Wenger hopes a similar prognosis will be avoided.
"We have to check, that is the only disappointment of the night, because Gibbs had a very good game," Wenger said. "We hope we do not get bad news tomorrow morning [Wednesday].
"It is a metatarsal again, it is the one next to the one he had broken, the second one, so we hope we have good news tomorrow morning, because that would be a massive blow to us."
Arsenal have seen Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott, Abou Diaby, Thomas Vermaelen and captain Cesc Fabregas all suffer injury problems in recent weeks.

Newcastle's Steve Harper out for three months
Soccernet - September 24, 2010
Newcastle United goalkeeper Steve Harper will be out of action for around three months after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Harper sustained the injury in Saturday's 1-0 Premier League victory at Everton in a first-half incident involving Toffees striker Jermaine Beckford.
Beckford was booked for the challenge by referee Andre Marriner. Although the tackle was not a particularly bad one, it ended the involvement in the game of Harper, who landed heavily on his left shoulder and immediately looked in distress before being carried from the field on a stretcher.
A Newcastle spokesman said: "Following a shoulder ligament injury sustained in United's game against Everton last Saturday, Steve Harper has undergone a successful operation which took place yesterday. It is likely that Steve will be unavailable for selection for a period of around 12 weeks.''
It means the player is unlikely to figure for Newcastle's first team again until Christmas- and is likely to mean an extended run in the side for Tim Krul.
Krul replaced Harper at Goodison Park and was also in goal for the 4-3 Carling Cup third round success over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard has suffered a setback in his recovery from a hernia operation and looks set to miss Chelsea's next three matches.
The midfielder's slow recovery from surgery means he could be absent for Premier League games against Manchester City away and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, plus the Champions League group fixture against Marseille. He is also a doubt for England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro on 12 October.
The 32-year-old midfielder suffered a setback in training to the groin injury that was treated at the beginning of the month. This latest problem adds to Carlo Ancelotti's growing injury list at Chelsea, with Gaël Kakuta, Salomon Kalou and Yossi Benayoun all limping off against Newcastle in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.

Fulham relief as Dembele only out for three weeks

Moussa Dembele had to be stretchered off at the Britannia Stadium
Fulham striker Moussa Dembele will be out for only two to three weeks, manager Mark Hughes confirmed, after the striker was carried off following an injury-time tackle by Stoke defender Andy Wilkinson in Tuesday night's 2-0 Carling Cup defeat at the Britannia Stadium.
Hughes was furious with the challenge, which he branded ''absolutely ridiculous'', and initially feared the £5 million summer signing from AZ Alkmaar had broken his leg.
But a scan revealed that Belgium international Dembele, who has scored three goals this season in a fine start to life at Craven Cottage, had sustained only minor ankle ligament damage.
''Moussa had a scan after the initial impact of the injury had settled down,'' said Hughes. ''At the moment it looks like he'll be out for two to three weeks. He should be fit and well after the international break.
''The challenge was unnecessary and we're thankful the injury isn't more serious than it is. At the time I was extremely angry and made my feelings known.
''We've been really pleased with what Dembele has produced and he's been a big reason behind the positive start we've had. Not to have him available because of a tackle so late in the game is frustrating for everybody.''

Double blow for Toffees
Saha and Anichebe still sidelined for Moyes
SkySport - 24th September 2010
http://img.skysports.com/10/07/218x298/Louis-Saha_2482453.jpg
Everton have suffered a double blow with the news that Louis Saha and Victor Anichebe face longer spells on the sidelines.
Saha has been missing with a calf problem since the defeat at Aston Villa four weeks ago, while Anichebe has yet to feature this season due to a knee injury.
France international Saha is facing a further three weeks on the sidelines as he struggles to shake off his injury and he has returned to his homeland to receive treatment.
"He goes to a facility in France to get treatment and be looked after and I think it will be two to three weeks before he is available," said Everton boss David Moyes.
Surgery
To add to Moyes' problems, Anichebe has been forced to undergo surgery to repair a troublesome knee injury which is likely to keep him out of action for at least six weeks.
"He had an operation yesterday which will keep him out for six weeks or so," said Moyes.

Spurs face injury crisis with Gallas and King out
ESPNsoccernet - September 27, 2010
Tottenham will have to do without the services of defender William Gallas for the next three weeks after tearing an groin muscle in training on Friday.
Spurs were also without captain Ledley King for Saturday's 1-0 defeat at West Ham United after the defender suffered a groin strain in the same training session - and he also faces weeks on the sidelines.
Gallas, who has made two appearances since joining the club on a free transfer, will miss this week's Champions League clash against FC Twente and the Premier League date with Aston Villa at White Hart Lane.
The upcoming international break means Spurs do not play again for three weeks, and they will hope Gallas has recovered for the match at Fulham on October 16 and the trip to Inter Milan four days later.
Manager Harry Redknapp is now desperately short on defenders with Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul out while Jonathan Woodgate was not named in their 25-man Premier League squad due to his long-term fitness problems.
Spurs were down to the bare bones on Saturday with Benoit Assou-Ekotto also out, meaning Gareth Bale had to drop back to left-back. Alan Hutton, Sebastien Bassong and Vedran Corluka made up the rest of the defence but Spurs could not name a single defender among their substitutes. Assou-Ekotto should return against Twente.
Redknapp said to the Sun ahead of the game against Twente: "We have to go for it. Winning the game is all-important and it will set us up nicely.
"The group is wide open with one point each. Inter Milan are obviously the favourites but after that, it's wide open. At home, our crowd are pumped up. It will be an intimidating atmosphere, just like it was in the qualifier against Young Boys. We attacked and got after them from the start.
"That is what we have to do in these European games, especially in this group. In Milan you might set up differently but at home ... no.
"I have some concerns at the centre of defence. We've lost some key players through injury - even William Gallas, who I signed on a free from Arsenal, is out until after the next international break. Gallas pulled a groin muscle with his last kick in training on Friday morning.
"Dawson is out long term, King hasn't trained since he played nine days ago against Wolves and Kaboul picked up a calf injury in that game. When I took Gallas on, everyone - even people who worked for me - said 'What are you going to do? You have caused yourself a problem'. Now he's out for three weeks.
"I was close to naming 18-year-old Steven Caulker on the bench for West Ham but he was struggling after starting in midweek against Arsenal. He got cramp everywhere - even his ears!"
Caulker joined Championship side Bristol City on loan on Monday, a confusing move considering the club's injury problems. He cannot be recalled by Spurs for 28 days.
Redknapp said of the loss of King: "It's a blow. When you don't train, you pick up different injuries. If I went for a run tonight, I'd pull up with a calf problem because I don't train regularly. Ledley doesn't train and he picks up little injuries."

Crocked Lampard out for another two weeks
ESPNsoccernet - September 27, 2010
Frank Lampard faces at least another two weeks out as he recovers from a hernia operation.
Lampard, who will miss Chelsea's Champions League game against Marseille on Tuesday as well as the crunch Premier League clash with Arsenal this weekend, has also been ruled out of England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro at Wembley on October 12.
Chelsea are hopeful that Lampard will be fully recovered in time to face Aston Villa on October 16.
"Lampard can't play tomorrow," coach Carlo Ancelotti told the club's official website. "If he doesn't play with us, he is not able to play for the national team.
"He needs more time than we expected for his rest. After these games there will be an international break and he will be ready for the games after the international break.
"For now we have to choose [who else to play] up front. Sure we will start [Florent] Malouda and [Nicolas] Anelka but we will have to choose the right position up front.
"It could be [Daniel] Sturridge or [Gael] Kakuta, I could put these two players in, they are ready.
"From the beginning, [Josh] McEachran will go on the bench; he will be ready to go onto the pitch if it is necessary. John Terry will play."
Didier Drogba sits out the second game of his two-match ban.
Ancelotti also fielded questions about Anelka's state of mind in coming up against French opposition, given his high-profile suspension, and retirement, from the national team in the summer.
"Nicolas is always quiet," Ancelotti said. "I don't think he will be afraid or scared because the game is on French television. He is in a fantastic moment and he will play for the team as he always does.
"He is able to play in every position up front. For his kind of skills he is perfect to play up front because he has speed, he has quality and he can support the players who come back from midfield.
"He is a fantastic striker for this reason. He is able to play in every position on the pitch.
"OM [Olympique Marseille] is a good team, with good organisation. They use attacking play and they are quick. We know everything about the individual skills they have but it is difficult to say who is the most dangerous. Usually the most dangerous players are the strikers.
"My players will know everything about the opponent but the most important thing is our play. Obviously we will know the skills of the opponent's team but we must play our way. If we play our best, we will win.
"I don't ask them to have a reaction. We just have to play our football. We have to pay attention and get the points from this game. I don't need to see a reaction from my players; they will have a good game because it is an important game for us to arrive at the top of the group. It is just for this."

Minor surgery for Gabby
Villa striker to miss two weeks of action
SkySports - 1st October 2010

Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has confirmed that striker Gabriel Agbonlahor is to undergo a minor groin operation.
Earlier on Friday the club's new boss had revealed Agbonlahor was fit and would be available to face Spurs.
"Gabby will be involved. He should be okay," said the Frenchman earlier on Friday on the club's official website.
However, despite the upbeat bulletin on Agbonlahor's fitness, the club have now booked him in for surgery on Monday.
"Gabby will have a minor operation on Monday evening on his groin," explained Houllier.
Painful
"He had to leave training this morning because it was too painful.
"I think the England squad is given on Monday and that has definitely ruled him out. He wouldn't be able to play.
"It is not just a niggle, it is real pain and hopefully the operation will heal that."
"He could be available for the Chelsea game but, if not, definitely for the Sunderland game."
The operation is expected to keep the 23-year-old England international on the sidelines for two weeks.
He will, therefore, be unavailable for England's crucial Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro on October 12.

Newcastle confirm Ben Arfa has broken his leg
ESPNsoccernet - October 3, 2010
Newcastle have announced that Hatem Ben Arfa has suffered a broken tibia and fibula of his left leg.
Newcastle will have to resign themselves to being without Ben Arfa for at least a large chunk of the season, however presently they have offered no indication of how long the winger is likely to be sidelined for.
A Newcastle club statement said: "He will undergo surgery tomorrow morning. Everyone connected with the club sends Hatem their best wishes for a speedy recovery. At this stage no time limit has been put on his expected return date.''
Manager Chris Hughton had earlier said he feared a broken leg during his side's 2-1 defeat at Manchester City.
Ben Arfa, on loan from Marseille, had to be given oxygen on the field after a tackle from Nigel de Jong and was subsequently taken straight to hospital.
"It seems as if he's got a broken leg," Hughton told ESPN. "The news is not good. When something like that happens and then to have some incredible decisions go against us, it's hard to take.
"He has gone to hospital and we will make an announcement in due course but it looks like he has broken his leg. Everyone will have their own opinion but it was a tackle that did not need to be made."

Thigh blow rules Chelsea star Alex out for three weeks
ESPNsoccernet - October 5, 2010
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/1005/alexinjured20101003_275x155.jpg
Chelsea defender Alex will be unavailable for up to three weeks due to a thigh injury sustained in Sunday's 2-0 win over Arsenal.
The Brazilian hobbled off in the closing stages at Stamford Bridge after his stunning free-kick had given his side an unassailable lead against their London rivals.
Alex will now miss his country's international friendless against Iran on Thursday and Ukraine on Monday, and Chelsea expect to be without his services for the Premier League tie against Aston Villa and Champions League fixture with Spartak Moscow following the international break.
News of Alex's injury is a setback for Chelsea as his defensive partner John Terry has also been suffering from fitness concerns in recent months.
Terry missed England's opening two Euro 2012 qualifiers due to a hamstring problem and although he has recovered from that injury, the former international captain says he is now suffering from bruised ribs ahead of his country's game against Montenegro on Tuesday.
"I take elbows in the ribs in a lot of games but it is one of them where I have a bit of bruising and the masseurs can't get into it because it is too sore," Terry said. "I had an X-ray and a scan and thankfully it came back all clear. It is a case of getting on with it but sneezing and coughing is really painful."

Zubar injury blow for Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers have suffered a blow with the news defender Ronald Zubar has been ruled out for a month.
The influential French defender has not featured since August and will now not play until November, after undergoing surgery on his ankle.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that Zubar had gone under the knife in his native France.
Different Class
"He went out to see the surgeon in France that he's used before with the club doctor Matt Perry and it was decided that was the best course of action," said McCarthy.
"He could have had an injection but the problem would have probably come back. He's having it done some time this week. It's the best time to get it done because we've got two weeks without a game.
"We've missed him and it's a blow because he's played very well and he's a good player. It's been frustrating for him because he twisted his ankle in the first friendly and it's been one thing after another.
"Having said that, Kevin Foley has played excellently for us and I thought he was different class on Saturday.
"We've missed a few players. We haven't had Steven Mouyokolo, Stephen Hunt - although we knew about that - Steven Fletcher has come back from injury and Jelle van Damme has only played bit parts so far. It will be better when we get them all back fully fit."

Benayoun out for months with ruptured Achilles
ESPNsoccernet - October 6, 2010
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/1006/yossibenayoundown20100922_275x155.jpg
Premier League leaders Chelsea could be without Yossi Benayoun for a large portion of the season after the Israeli FA revealed he has suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Benayoun, who joined Chelsea in a £5 million deal from Liverpool in the summer, initially suffered a torn calf muscle in the Carling Cup defeat to Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on September 22.
The midfielder was only expected to be out for three weeks and had linked up with the Israel squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers at home to Croatia on Saturday and in Greece next Tuesday.
But the national team's medical staff have discovered a more serious injury to the player's Achilles and it is now feared he will be out for several months.
The Israel captain told his FA's website: "I arrived with hope of helping the national team but unfortunately this is not a simple injury ... an additional test will reveal what needs to be done."
Benayoun will now return to England where Chelsea's medical staff will carry out further tests.
Benayoun, 30, made his Chelsea debut in the 3-1 Community Shield defeat to Manchester United and scored his first goal as the Blues thrashed Wigan 6-0 in the Premier League in August. He has yet to start a league match, making three appearances from the bench, but he was in the first XI for the 4-1 thrashing of MSK Zilina in the Champions League.
"I'm sitting here in the hotel quite sad about this," Benayoun added. "I'm eating myself up from inside when I think about how long I've waited to come to the national team and contribute. Right before the two important games, I suddenly get hurt. Since this is one of my few remaining opportunities to play in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign, I really wanted to take part in these two games."
Meanwhile, Chlesea midfielder Frank Lampard, who has not played for the club since aggravating a hernia problem in August's 2-0 win against Stoke, is hoping to return from injury against Aston Villa next week.
Lampard underwent surgery last month and resumed training only to suffer a groin strain.
He said in the Evening Standard: "I don't really want to set dates but I'm hoping to return after the international break. I've got a good couple of weeks to work with the physios. Hopefully, I won't be too far away."

Beausejour's injury woes continue
Soccernet - October 9, 2010
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/1009/jeanbeausejourbcfc_275x155.jpg
Birmingham winger Jean Beausejour has been ruled out of next weekend's clash at Arsenal through injury as his frustrating start at St Andrew's continues.
Beausejour was lacking match fitness after signing on the final day of the summer transfer window from Mexican side Club America. Now Alex McLeish's £3.3 million capture is sidelined with a knee ligament strain.
McLeish had hoped Beausejour would be fit to return following the international break after being left out of the home clash with Everton last weekend. But he needs more rest and recuperation and will not be risked at Emirates Stadium.
McLeish said: ``Jean came to us half fit and hadn't played many games and that is part of the problem when you sign players right at the end of the transfer window. Now he's strained his medial ligament and we have to make sure we don't take any unnecessary risks with him.
``He needs to rest to make sure he is right and he won't be available next weekend.''
Beausejour has still to start a Premier League game for Blues although he impressed in the Carling Cup win over MK Dons.

Sagna set for three weeks on the sidelines
ESPNsoccernet - October 11, 2010
Arsenal and France defender Bacary Sagna expects to be on the sidelines for another three weeks as he continues his recovery from a left thigh injury.
Sagna, 27, played in Arsenal's 2-0 loss to Chelsea a week ago but is sitting out Les Bleus' Euro 2012 qualifying double header against Romania and Luxembourg due to the problem.
He told French television programme Stade 2: "It's okay. I'm currently in rehabilitation. It will take three weeks. I'll take my time to get back.''
That means Sagna will miss home Premier League clash with Birmingham on Saturday and the crucial trip the Manchester City eight days later plus the Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk. The right back could be in line for a return in the all-London affair against West Ham at the Emirates on October 30.

Netherlands injury set to sideline Kuyt until 2011
ESPNsoccernet - October 13, 2010
Liverpool's season appears to have gone from bad to worse as Dirk Kuyt suffered a serious ankle injury that could rule him out for the rest of the year in Netherlands' 4-1 Euro qualifying win over Sweden.
In a further blow for Roy Hodgson, defender Daniel Agger had to come off in the first half of Denmark's clash with Cyprus, throwing his comeback from a groin problem in doubt ahead of the weekend's crucial Merseyside derby against Everton.
Dutch forward Kuyt was taken to hospital in an ambulance after landing awkwardly following an aerial challenge. Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk said he feared the injury was serious and that the team doctor was predicting a long time on the sidelines for Kuyt.
Kuyt's absence with test Liverpool's attacking depth as the club, currently languishing in the relegation zone, await a High Court judgment regarding its ownership.

Fellaini out for six weeks
ESPNsoccernet - October 15, 2010

Fellaini scored for Belgium in their 4-4 draw with Austria this week, but he picked up an injury during the game and is now set to be out until the end of November.
"It is a very big blow because he is an important player for us," Moyes said.
Everton have a number of injury concerns ahead of the game at home to Liverpool on Sunday, with Steven Pienaar, Jack Rodwell and Victor Anichebe all ruled out and Louis Saha and Phil Jagielka both doubtful.
On Jagielka, who has a hamstring injury, Moyes said: "He is not as bad as we first thought but it may just come too quick for him - that is the way it is looking at this moment in time."

New blow as Osman ruled out for six weeks

Everton have suffered another injury blow with the news that Leon Osman will be out for six weeks with an ankle injury.

Osman picked up the knock in the 2-0 Merseyside derby win at home to Liverpool and was replaced by Diniyar Bilyaletdinov at the break.
The midfielder will join Jack Rodwell, Steven Pienaar, Louis Saha and Marouane Fellaini on the injury list. Mikel Arteta is doubtful for Saturday's lunchtime trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
Manager David Moyes told the club's official website: "There is no getting away from it we have another bad set of injuries like we had last year. Hopefully they will not be as bad as that in terms of the length of time the players will be missing for.
"Leon Osman has a bad ankle injury which will keep him out for four to six weeks which is a real blow. We'll also have to have a close look at Arteta's fitness as well.
"There are others we will have to assess today, we are getting some players back but maybe some not quick enough."

Petrov was forced to come off five minutes before half-time against Sunderland after he sustained the problem in the first half of Saturday's 1-0 defeat. The 31-year-old will now undergo a scan to see if he needs surgery on the problem, which will almost certainly keep him on the sidelines for at least eight weeks.

Martinez hopeful McCarthy will return in ten weeks
ESPNsoccernet - October 25, 2010
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is expecting midfielder James McCarthy to return to action in eight to ten weeks.
There had been fears McCarthy could be out for much of the season after he was stretchered off in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Bolton, but Martinez is hopeful the player will return before the end of the year.
"It is a little bit better than we thought at first but it is obviously ligament damage in the right ankle," he said. "When it is swollen it is sometimes difficult to assess but there is no fracture, we hope.
"We expect to get the results of the scan today and then hopefully it will be eight to ten weeks."
He added: "He has been sensational. Sometimes it is hard to understand the age of James. He plays with a great maturity and understanding and the level of performance has been so consistent for a young man it shows you the quality he has got.
"When he was stretchered off I feared the worst but, I know eight to ten weeks is a long time, but we will use that period to try to refresh him. When he comes back he will be stronger and ready to make a real impact in the rest of the season."
Martinez was angry at Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba for the challenge, even if he accepted there was no intent to harm McCarthy.
"It was a completely unnecessary challenge," he said. "Obviously it was not malicious at all but it was reckless. It was one of those challenges where only one person can get hurt and that was someone who wants to get on the ball and try to be creative.
"It is an incident that is going to happen in football. It is just that thin line - if the referee feels it was reckless or with excessive force it can be a red card - but what worries me more is the health of James McCarthy.
"Probably one of the most creative young players in the Premier League is going to be out for up to ten weeks. That is a football crime."

Injured Tevez flies home, Manchester derby doubt
ESPNsoccernet - October 28, 2010
Carlos Tevez has flown home to Argentina amid fears he could miss Manchester City's derby test against Manchester United because of the injury he picked up in his side's 3-0 loss to Arsenal on Sunday.
After scans revealed Tevez's thigh injury was worse than initially thought and bad enough to keep him out for around two weeks, City boss Roberto Mancini saw an opportunity to allow Tevez to spend time at home while he recovers.
Tevez's team-mate Roque Santa Cruz said this week Tevez was homesick and missing his children, who live in Argentina, so the theory is the striker will come back refreshed and happy early next week, although he is expected to undertake an intense rehabilitation schedule while he is away to boost his chances of recovering in time for the November 10 Manchester derby.
Tevez is all but certain to miss City's upcoming Premier League matches against Wolves and West Brom as well as their Europa League fixture against Lech Poznan next week. The return of Mario Balotelli from injury and the form of Emmanuel Adebayor, who scored a hat-trick in Europe last week, should help ease City's striking woes but Mancini will be desperate to have Tevez back to face United since the City captain has scored three goals against Sir Alex Ferguson's men since leaving Old Trafford for Eastlands.
Mancini was keen to rest Tevez in upcoming matches anyway since his skipper has been playing out almost every match as a lone striker in the absence of injured team-mates. He limped off in the second half against Arsenal but it was initially thought he had a dead leg and would not miss any matches. He has scored seven goals in nine Premier League matches this season.

Wenger confirms Gibbs blow
ESPNsoccernet - October 28, 2010
Arsene Wenger has confirmed defender Kieran Gibbs will be out of action for several weeks with a medial knee ligament strain.
Gibbs had to be substituted after 18 minutes of the 4-0 Carling Cup victory at Newcastle on Wednesday after a collision with Wayne Routledge.
Gibbs suffered a metatarsal injury in November last year that ruled him out for the rest of the season, and Wenger believes he is likely to spend another significant spell on the sidelines.
"We lost Kieran Gibbs last night," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on Thursday. "That is the bad news. It is a medial knee ligament strain. It needs to be checked on the scan tomorrow but it will be a few weeks."
Arsenal have also been without Manuel Almunia, Thomas Vermaelen, Aaron Ramsey and Robin van Persie, and Wenger ruled out any of his injured players returning to face West Ham this weekend.
"We have nobody else back from Manchester City. Van Persie and Vermaelen are still out, Ramsey and Almunia are not ready, so it should be a similar squad to the one that played at Man City, but Van Persie and Ramsey are very close to coming back to full training now," he said. "They should be back in the group at the end of next week.
"Of course we should not set the same [recovery] time to Ramsey as Van Persie. Aaron will need a longer period to be completely match-fit for the first team, but Van Persie is not far away now.
"Manuel Almunia is maybe one to two weeks away. With Vermaelen, it is difficult to set a fixed time because he Achilles improves slowly."

Virus raises doubts over Jones and Pennant
ESPNsoccernet - October 28, 2010
Stoke manager Tony Pulis is trying to limit the effects of a virus that has hit two of his key players over the past week.
Winger Jermaine Pennant and striker Kenwyne Jones both came down with the bug at the start of the week. They have suffered high temperatures and flu-like symptoms.
Both players started in yesterday's Carling Cup defeat at West Ham, but were substituted during the second half.
"The two of them weren't feeling that brilliant after the Manchester United game, so we were a little bit careful with them," Pulis said. "Kenwyne actually felt worse when he was up in London after he woke up from a sleep on Wednesday afternoon, but we persuaded him to give us an hour.
"He looked very good when he played. We didn't get back in until half past three this morning, so we've given them the day off."
Pulis is confident both players will be well enough to start against Everton on Saturday, but was set to assess them on Thursday evening.
"They'll report back tonight and we'll look and see who's ready to go and who's not, because it'll be a tough game.''

Injury may rule Cole out of Chelsea clash
ESPNsoccernet - October 31, 2010
Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole could miss next Sunday's clash against former club Chelsea after picking up a hamstring injury in Liverpool's 1-0 win at Bolton.
Cole, 28, swapped Stamford Bridge for Anfield over the summer after Reds boss Roy Hodgson snapped him up on a free transfer, but after limping off against Bolton he may miss out on coming face to face with his former team-mates.
Though Hodgson does not believe the injury is too serious, he revealed that Cole's availability for next Sunday's match would become clearer after further tests.
"He has a slight hamstring injury and we don't know the extent of it until after he has a scan," Hodgson said.
The experience is a new one to Cole having never suffered such a muscle injury in his career. Having already served a three-match ban this season, it is also another setback as he attempts to establish himself at Anfield.
The Reds could be boosted for the visit of the champions and league leaders by the return of Dirk Kuyt. The Dutchman has made a rapid recovery from an ankle injury sustained on international duty earlier this month.
"I think he will be available to be in the squad against Chelsea, but whether he is fit enough to play remains to be seen," Hodgson said. "I think he will return to training towards the latter part of the week and then it is a question of seeing how well he can cope.''
Another former Chelsea player, Glen Johnson, is also expected to be available after a thigh strain.
Hodgson refused to talk up a Liverpool revival after his team finally climbed out of the Premier League relegation zone with victory over Bolton.
"If we had come into this game in a different position in the league table and with a few wins behind us, I think we would have settled down and been a bit more relaxed," Hodgson said. "As it is we are affected by the table and the fact we have started so badly.
"We have been rightly criticised for starting so badly and when that happens one of the things that goes out of the window is composure and confidence. I have been as devastated as everyone has by the lack of results but I have never stopped believing that work would pay dividends. It is just a question of timescales.
"I am still not convinced it is going to pay dividends in a short timescale, it is going to be a longer job. It is still too early to be too optimistic but at least it is a step in the right direction. The players now know they have got the ability to dig in, even in games like this, which is a good thing to know. It is nice to see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel.''

Villa blow as Emile Heskey requires knee surgery
ESPNsoccernet - November 4, 2010
Aston Villa's top scorer Emile Heskey has been ruled out for up to a month after sustaining a medial meniscus tear in his right knee during training.
Heskey suffered the injury on Wednesday and will require surgery to correct the knee problem. Villa estimate he will be absent for between three or four weeks, meaning Heskey could miss up to five Premier League games and the Carling Cup quarter-final tie against rivals Birmingham City on December 1.
The striker has enjoyed a resurgence of form under Gerard Houllier, who also managed him to good effect at Liverpool, and has scored three goals in six games under the Frenchman.
Meanwhile, midfielder Steve Sidwell could miss the weekend's game against Fulham due to a virus but youngster Ciaran Clark expects to be ready for the trip to Craven Cottage, despite suffering a knock in the 0-0 draw with Birmingham last weekend.
"I got a dead leg and then took one in the nose from their 'keeper, but I'm feeling good now," Clark told the club's official website. "The dead leg is still a little bit stiff but I managed to get through training so we will see how it is.
"Then the 'keeper came out and caught me - but it was 'face on' luckily. If it'd been from the side, it might have been a bit worse but it was just bleeding. It was fine in the end. I should be fit. It's a little stiff now after training but that's expected."

Olsson out for six weeks
http://www.premierleague.com/javaImages/60/2/0,,12306~9175648,00.jpg
West Bromwich Albion defender Jonas Olsson is facing up to six weeks out of action with an Achilles injury.
Albion manager Roberto Di Matteo confirmed the club's vice-captain could be sidelined until mid December.
It is a big setback for the Baggies as Olsson has been a key figure in their fine start to the campaign in the Barclays Premier League.
Di Matteo admitted: "With Jonas, we're looking at a longer injury - rather than a few weeks.
"I would like to keep it down to weeks, but it won't be two weeks. It will definitely be around the five or six-week mark.
"It's an injury that can improve dramatically but he's not going to be back within two weeks, that's for sure."
Remains Doubtful
http://www.premierleague.com/javaImages/62/2/0,,12306~9175650,00.jpg
Leading scorer Peter Odemwingie could be in contention to return in Sunday's home match against Manchester City after being sidelined for a month with a knee problem.
Odemwingie, on target four times this season, has returned to training but midfielder James Morrison remains doubtful with his knee setback.
Di Matteo said: "Peter has joined in with us so we will have to see how he reacts.
"With James Morrison, it's touch and go with his knee, but, if it's not Sunday, then hopefully he will be available for the next game.
"It's assessment on a daily basis with him."
Osman still six weeks from a return
http://www.premierleague.com/javaImages/de/5/0,,12306~9176542,00.jpg
Everton midfielder Leon Osman faces a further six weeks on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his injured ankle.
Osman has been out since limping off at half-time during the Merseyside derby victory over Liverpool on 17th October.
Fully Confident
It was initially thought the 29-year-old could be back in action within six weeks of that date but an operation has since become necessary.
Manager David Moyes said: "He had an operation on Monday morning to take away a piece of floating bone from his ankle.
"We expected him to be out for four to six weeks, but we think he probably be out for another six weeks now. He seems fine. Hopefully this will help his ankle."
Moyes appears to have all but ruled out a return for Jack Rodwell in Saturday's Barclays Premier League match at Blackpool.
The 19-year-old midfielder has made a quicker than expected recovery from an ankle injury and was an unused substitute against Stoke City last week.
He followed that up with an appearance for the reserves against Blackpool in midweek but he is unlikely to get further than the bench at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.
Moyes said: "I think he is close but I don't think he is quite ready yet. We may continue to include him on the bench but I don't think he is quite fully confident in his ankle yet.
"He played 50 minutes in the reserves and more than likely he will be included again tomorrow. But do I think he is ready to start? No, I don't.
"He is back ahead of schedule but it is likely to be another couple of weeks."
Injury blow for Carew
http://www.premierleague.com/javaImages/51/6/0,,12306~9176657,00.jpg
Aston Villa striker John Carew has been ruled out for three to four weeks with a torn calf muscle.
The Norway international has torn a calf muscle and joins former England forward Heskey on the sidelines. Villa announced earlier this week that Heskey would be out for up to a month with a medial ligament injury.
The club are desperately short of forward options, with Gabriel Agbonlahor having only just returned to light training after a groin operation.
First Time
Villa manager Gerard Houllier said: "Having Heskey out is a big blow because in the six games he played, he scored three goals and created some chances as well.
"His work rate was phenomenal. But the other blow is that John Carew won't be playing because he picked up an injury yesterday in training.
"He had a scan this morning and there is a slight tear of his calf which will rule him out for a minimum of three weeks, maybe four weeks.
"Gabby is still in the recovery period although for the first time today he took part in training, in the ball work.
"Emile had the operation last night and it was successful but he will maybe need another three or four weeks."
Houllier confirmed that Nathan Delfouneso will make his first Barclays Premier League start after 14 appearances as a substitute during the past three seasons.
He said: "It is an ideal opportunity for the young Nathan to step up. He will definitely be the main striker."

Hodgson admits Agger is facing lengthy lay-off
ESPNsoccernet - November 7, 2010
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is resigned to being without centre-back Daniel Agger for the "long-term'' after the defender was ordered to rest a problematic calf injury.
The 25-year-old Denmark international has not played since September 25 when he came on as a substitute in the 2-2 draw at home to Sunderland. He visited a specialist in London on Wednesday to assess the problem and has been told not to train to allow the problem to rectify itself.
"Agger is long-term. They can't put a date on it,'' said Hodgson. "At the moment he can't train, he has just got to rest and wait for the next time he goes to see the specialist again. They are very anxious that bone doesn't form. It is a calcification issue and training would certainly accelerate the calcification.
"Now they have to wait and hope the body breaks down the calcifying elements before he can even think about training again. So it could be very long term.''

Thomas Vermaelen suffers injury setback
ESPNsoccernet - November 9, 2010

Thomas Vermaelen's recovery from a problematic ankle injury has been delayed by a setback in training and manager Arsene Wenger admits he is unable to put a timescale on the defender's recovery.
Vermaelen has been missing for two months due to his ongoing fitness problems but Wenger said last week the Belgian defender could be available for first-team selection in a matter of days.
That optimism has proven ill-founded though as Vermaelen suffered a setback in training on Monday and will now need to undergo further examination before the club know when he is likely to be available once again.
"I don't know where we go with Thomas time-wise but, at the moment, he cannot play," Wenger said. "On the scan, his Achilles is completely clear but as soon as he stays out for a while, it tightens up and he has pain. We don't know the source of his pain."
Though both Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie are expected to feature against Wolves on Wednesday night, midfielder Abou Diaby may also require further examination as he recovers from an ankle injury.
"He has a test Wednesday or Thursday," Wenger said. "If he gets through that, it will be very quick; if he still has pain, he will have to see a specialist."

Sidwell setback for Villa
Reo-Coker likely to be out for three weeks with knee injury
SkySports - 9th November 2010
http://img.skysports.com/10/10/218x298/Steve-Sidwell_2519377.jpg
Steve Sidwell has been ruled out until Christmas and Aston Villa team-mate Nigel Reo-Coker is likely to be sidelined for three weeks.
Midfielder Sidwell has been struggling with an Achilles problem and put surgery on hold prior to the local derby against Birmingham City last month.
Villa have already lost captain Stiliyan Petrov until next year due to a knee injury and the club were trying to nurse Sidwell through.
However, Gerard Houllier has confirmed the former Reading man now requires an operation and he will be out until the festive period.
Flared up
"Steve Sidwell will have an operation," said the Villa boss. "You remember at some stage he was about to have it and had to delay it.
"But his Achilles tendon has flared up again so the best thing is to do it now - as soon as possible.
"We will be hoping he will be back for the Christmas period when it is very busy."
Meanwhile, acting captain Reo-Coker will be out for up to three weeks after suffering a knee injury in the weekend draw at Fulham.
Houllier added: "Nigel is not as bad as we thought. He could be back in training in two to three weeks.
"We thought it was a tear, but it is just slight damage to the medial ligament. That is good news."

Lampard suffers fresh injury blow
ESPNsoccernet - November 12, 2010
Carlo Ancelotti has revealed Frank Lampard faces another two to three weeks on the sidelines.
Lampard, 32, has already spent two months on the sidelines this season after undergoing hernia surgery, and he suffered an adductor muscle injury during training on Thursday.
It adds to Ancelotti's problems in midfield with Michael Essien starting his three-match suspension against Sunderland on Sunday.
"Frank is not fit," Ancelotti said. "He had a problem during the session. He had done a fantastic session yesterday but then had an abductor problem. We have to wait for him.
"I think he will be out for three weeks, until December. It is not what we wanted because we hoped to use him with Michael Essien suspended, but now we cannot."
He added: "Frank had a problem with his adductor. He does not need surgery."
Alex also misses out on Sunday's game against Sunderland through injury, but Ancelotti will be able to welcome Nicolas Anelka back into the side after he recovered from a back problem.

Mixed injury news for Liverpool
Soccernet - November 12, 2010
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has received mixed news on the injury front ahead of Saturday's trip to Stoke after Joe Cole and Glen Johnson were both ruled out.
Cole has missed the last three matches with a hamstring problem while Johnson has been sidelined for two games with a groin injury.
However, centre-back Sotirios Kyrgiakos is set to return after missing matches against Chelsea and Wigan with tonsilitis, while goalkeeper Brad Jones (shoulder) is fit to take his place on the bench.
Having named the same starting line-up for two successive games, Hodgson is likely to make changes, although he plans to keep them to a minimum.
"I'm rather hoping that the two and a half days we'll have had after Wigan will have given us time to recover," he said. "I don't think we've got that many possibilities to make too many changes.
"We've got senior players like Johnson, Cole and Daniel Agger who are not fit to take part in the game, and then it's young players like Jonjo Shelvey, Jay Spearing and Danny Wilson.
"There isn't an enormous luxury to make wholesale changes. If we do make any at all it will be the odd one here and there because the team is functioning well.
"The guys who played against Wigan and Chelsea had a very light training session on Friday, mainly just recovery and prevention of injury. A little bit of movement, but nothing serious.
"We're very aware that it's three very important games in six days, so we don't want to leave anything on the training field. We want all our energy, vitality and intensity when we go into the match."

Huddlestone out for three months after surgery
ESPNsoccernet - November 15, 2010
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/0928/tomhuddlestonethfctraining20100928_275x155.jpg
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone is likely to miss the next three months of the season with an ankle injury that has been troubling him for some time.
Huddlestone has been nagged by the problem for some time, and has often needed painkilling injections ahead of matches. After carrying out a scan, Spurs have decided to send him for an operation on his deterioating right ankle.
The midfielder missed the weekend's 4-2 defeat of Blackburn Rovers and his lengthy absence will cause problems for Harry Redknapp as Spurs fight on in the Premier League and face two crucial Champions League matches in order to qualify for the knock-out round.
A lack of midfield numbers means Huddlestone's loss will be keenly felt, and his partnership with Luka Modric will now be broken up as the 23-year-old joins Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate on the sidelines.
A club statement read: "Following consultation with several independent ankle specialists, it has been determined that Tom Huddlestone will undergo surgery on his right ankle. The procedure is likely to rule the England international out of action for around three months."
Tottenham assistant manager Kevin Bond admitted the loss of Huddlestone was a blow but was confident the depth of the squad could cover his absence.
"It looks like he's going to have to have a little clean-out of the ankle and it looks like he's going to be out for some time,'' Bond told Sky Sports News. "He's been excellent for us for some time now, but that's what we've got the squad for. Jermaine Jenas played central midfield on Saturday and was brilliant, so we've got a squad of players and they've all got to play their part. They'll certainly have to do that because we'll be without Tom for a good while.
"There's a lot good players in our squad; we've got no problems with playing any of our players. You'd like to be able to pick from a full squad obviously, but at this moment in time we're not able to do that.''
The loss of Huddlestone comes amid the build-up to this weekend's north London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The injury also rules him out of high-profile Premier League games with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United. In addition, Huddlestone will be absent from two key European games against Werder Bremen and FC Twente in the coming weeks, with a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League at stake.
Should Spurs progress to the last 16, Huddlestone would be hopeful of featuring, with those fixtures due to begin in mid-February.

Dunne blow for Villa
ESPNsoccernet - November 15, 2010
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/1115/richarddunneandnemanjavidic_275x155.jpg
Aston Villa captain Richard Dunne is the latest player to join the club's lengthy injury list after suffering a reoccurrence of a knee problem.
The Republic of Ireland international, who has been forced to withdraw from Giovanni Trapattoni's squad for Wednesday's clash with Norway, is the tenth senior Villa player to be sidelined.
Dunne's knee flared up during Saturday's 2-2 home draw with Manchester United and Villa boss Gerard Houllier can ill afford anymore injury blows.
Houllier said: "Richard's knee has swollen up and it is a recurring thing. That is why he missed two or three games earlier in the season.
"He is important to us and I like the attitude of all my older players because they are good tutors (for the younger players) in terms of training and attitude towards the job.
"The two centre-backs (Dunne and James Collins) are fantastic people. They encourage and sometimes they give a rollicking."
Villa are already without Stiliyan Petrov, Nigel Reo-Coker, Emile Heskey, Fabian Delph (all knee) John Carew, Carlos Cuellar and Ciaran Clark (all calf), Habib Beye (ankle) and Steve Sidwell (Achilles).
In addition Stephen Ireland missed the United game through illness while Gabriel Agbonlahor withdrew from the England squad to face France after suffering a knock in the same game.
Houllier reiterated that he will look to strengthen the squad during the next transfer window. He said: "We definitely need to sign one or two players in January."

Chelsea skipper Terry could be out for 'months'
ESPNsoccernet - November 16, 2010
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/1114/johnterryinstandsvsafc20101114_275x155.jpg
Chelsea's Premier League title defence has received a blow with the admission from captain John Terry that he fears a long-term nerve injury in his leg could sideline him for months.
The complaint forced Terry to miss the shock 3-0 home defeat against Sunderland on Sunday, which served to underline the importance of the defender to the Blues' title defence.
Terry admitted that he was no longer able to play with the pain of the injury, which he has battled since the end of last season, and is worried he will now have to take a long-term break in order to fully recover.
"It is at a point where I cannot carry on with it,'' he told the Sun. "I used to be able to make it through games because the adrenalin gets you going and you blank the pain out. But now there is no decision to make. After games I'm in agony and not sleeping at all.''
Terry will miss England's friendly against France at Wembley on Wednesday night and is reportedly considering whether to fly out to Italy before the end of the week to find a cure.
"I'm at my wit's end,'' he added. "I know I won't play against Birmingham on Saturday but beyond that there are no clues. It could be weeks, it could be months.''
Should Terry be ruled out it would be another major injury blow for Chelsea who have already been without fellow England international Frank Lampard for most of the season.
Lampard is set to miss at least another two weeks after suffering an abductor muscle injury in training last week.
The Blues are also without key midfielder Michael Essien, who has two games to run on his suspension after receiving a straight red card against Fulham last Wednesday night.

The paper reports that Taylor - who has not started a league match this season - was hopeful of securing a loan move prior to the injury.

Wolves captain Karl Henry is set to miss the next two months with a knee injury.
Mick McCarthy has confirmed Henry, 28, is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up the injury against Blackpool on Saturday.
"Karl is out for two months with medial knee ligament damage," he said. "He's had a scan and I think there's a slight tear.
"It's a huge blow, especially with Dave Edwards out with a thigh strain. Karl's been great and he's been an ever-present unless he's been injured - and the injuries he's had have been serious, with his knee and damaged spleen. It's a big loss."

Mixed injury news for Gunners
ESPNSoccernet - November 25, 2010
Arsenal have received some mixed news on the injury front, with captain Cesc Fabregas ruled out for a fortnight and Emmanuel Eboue facing at least a month on the sidelines.
The duo added to Arsenal's woes on Tuesday when picking up hamstring and knee injuries during the shock loss to Braga in the Champions League.
Fabregas has been plagued by hamstring trouble of late, but this latest injury is not related to previous problems. The news has come as a blow to manager Arsene Wenger, who has admitted the club will have to tread a cautious road with their captain in the future.
"Eboue has a medial knee ligament strain," he said. "It can be four weeks, can be six weeks or can be eight weeks, but I think it will be four weeks minimum.
"Fabregas will be assessed today with a scan. After that we can tell you how long he will be out, but I count two weeks.
"It is a big blow because it will question how cautious we have to be in the future with him. Cesc has played 50 games a year since a young age. We may have to be more cautious with him, especially in the next two months."
While Wenger is left counting the cost of injury to his captain, he saw Manuel Almunia and Aaron Ramsey return for the reserves in midweek.
"Almunia should be capable to play but I will see how he reacts," Wenger said. "Ramsey needs competitive games. He played 45 minutes and he did well. We need to get him slowly and progressively into competition mode."

Harewood deals Blackpool blow
ESPNsoccernet - November 25, 2010
Blackpool have been struck by the news that Marlon Harewood will be sidelined for up to six weeks due to a hamstring injury.
Harewood, who joined Blackpool on a free transfer from Aston Villa over the summer, sustained the injury in training ahead of Saturday's Premier League fixture against Bolton Wanderers.
The striker has scored five goals in 11 appearances for the promoted club, including a crucial second goal in a 2-1 win against Wolves last weekend, and manager Ian Holloway says he is culpable for the injury.
"I wanted it to be competitive at the end of training and it went on too long. It was my fault," Holloway said. "I'm in the doghouse from the physio. How long is Marlon likely to be out for? Five or six weeks."
Harewood said: "I did it in training yesterday. We were doing sprints and I tore my hamstring. I can't believe it as I was feeling good and thought I was playing well.
"I'm not a happy man at the moment but I'll keep going and hopefully I'll be back before too long."

Bramble out until 2011
ESPNsoccernet - November 25, 2010
Sunderland will be without defender Titus Bramble for the rest of 2010 as he is set to undergo surgery on a knee injury.
Bramble, a summer signing from Wigan, was absent for Monday's 2-2 draw with Everton due to damaged knee cartilage, and Steve Bruce had indicated that an operation appeared inevitable.
A club statement on Thursday read: "Sunderland defender Titus Bramble will go under the knife today to repair damaged cartilage in his knee.
"The 29-year-old was admitted to hospital this morning to repair the injury, which was sustained in training recently."
Steve Bruce has said Bramble, who has had an impressive start to life with Sunderland, will miss "at least six weeks".
With John Mensah also sidelined for the next fortnight with a shoulder problem, Anton Ferdinand is hoping to seize the chance to win his first-team place back.
"It's down to me now to cement my place with Titus and John out," he told the Sunderland Echo. "We'll see in the coming weeks whether I can do that.
"Titus has been pretty difficult to shift, but that's football. I've lost my place to injury and it's a shame he has now because he's been on fire this season. He's proved a lot of people wrong.
"When he gets back I'm sure the competition will be strong which is good for Sunderland Football Club."

Midfielder ruled out until January with hip problem
SDkySports - 26th November 2010
West Ham have suffered a blow with the news Mark Noble has been ruled out until the New Year.
Noble is facing over a month on the sidelines after injuring his hip in last weekend's defeat at Liverpool.
Noble joins the likes of Thomas Hitzlsperger and Jack Collison on the sidelines, leaving Avram Grant short of options in midfield.

West Ham are hoping the influential midfielder will be back in January, but he will miss the busy festive period.
The injury is a major setback for basement boys West Ham as they look to climb off the bottom of the table.

Roy rues Carragher blow after defeat
Soccernet - November 28, 2010
Roy Hodgson was left reeling after Liverpool suffered a dramatic late 2-1 defeat at Tottenham as well as losing Jamie Carragher to injury.
Carragher had to be withdrawn late in the game and, with Steven Gerrard already sidelined with a hamstring injury, it is another significant blow for the Reds.
"We think Jamie has dislocated his shoulder which is a real blow for us and for him," Hodgson said. "I don't know at this stage how long Jamie will be out for but I would think it will be quite long because it's a serious injury.
"It is a blow for us. Agger is still out injured and we are not really that well blessed for centre-halves. We are now without Steven Gerrard and Jamie for a period of time, both of whom are the lifeblood of this club."
Liverpool had been on course for victory after Martin Skrtel's effort shortly before the break but, after Jermain Defoe missed a disputed penalty, Skrtel turned the ball into his own net on 65 minutes and Aaron Lennon got the winner in injury time.
"I'm very disappointed because I didn't feel we deserved to lose this game," Hodgson said. "It was especially disappointing because it came at a time when we had to reorganise our defence when Jamie Carragher had to leave the field.
"It seemed to be a cruel way to come away from a game where we played well only to end up with nothing and losing our talismanic centre-half.
"We then paid the price for not dealing with a very simple long ball which caught us unaware and Lennon then used his pace and sneaked in to score the winning goal.
"I'm finding it hard to come to terms with the fact we have got nothing out of this game, but the result is not going to change with me being disappointed.
"We had plenty of chances in the game and we played well enough to have put this game to bed before half-time and then just after the interval, but we didn't do so and then you always run the risk of the other team getting themselves back into it.
"Tottenham are a very good attacking team and they certainly asked lots of questions of us, but I thought we asked plenty of questions of them as well."
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp praised Liverpool but felt his side had grown stronger as the game wore on.
"They started well and were dangerous," he said. "It was a fantastic game.
"Liverpool played their part - they were always a threat. They had opportunities to score again, they had good chances, we became disorganised, but we got after them a bit better, had shots blocked, missed a penalty and eventually managed to get the goal.
"We had lots of good chances and, in the end, I felt we deserved the win. It was a great performance to come from one down."
He added: "We're not a team that you can write off and go, 'They're going nowhere, are they?'
"Even if you're one down, we're always going to make plenty of opportunities and it's a case of sticking them away. I just feel we've got a belief in there that we can come from behind."

Van der Vaart out for a month?
ESPNsoccernet - November 29, 2010
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart could be set for a month on the sidelines after he tore his hamstring muscle against Liverpool.
Van der Vaart has been one of the Premier League's best players so far this season, but has struggled with injury niggles since his move to Spurs from Real Madrid this summer. The Dutchman lasted just 12 minutes of Sunday's 2-1 win at White Hart Lane and manager Harry Redknapp believes his exploits at the 2010 World Cup may have had an impact on the midfielder's fitness.
"Rafa felt it tear, so that doesn't look too good," said Redknapp. "It's so disappointing for Rafa. He keeps picking up little injuries.
''It's probably because he's missed a pre-season or was away at the World Cup and not played many games. When your fitness is a bit low it's hard to get up to speed. He keeps getting little nicks."
Redknapp also lost defender Younes Kaboul to a hip injury and is waiting for confirmation on how long he will be out. "Younes felt he might have torn a muscle in his hip. He felt that go,'' he said.

Gunners defender still struggling with Achilles injury
SkySports - 6th December 2010
http://img.skysports.com/10/07/218x298/Vermaelen_2482923.jpg
Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen will not be back in action until at least the New Year.
Vermaelen has been sidelined since suffering an Achilles injury while playing for Belgium in a Euro 2012 qualifier against Turkey in early September.
It was initially thought the centre-half would only be out for a week before a return against Wolves in November had to be shelved.
The 25-year-old continues to be hampered by the injury and Wenger is unable to predict a firm date for Vermaelen's return.
Wenger is determined to have the former Ajax stopper back in his plans, but the Arsenal boss revealed he will not return before the end of the year.
"Vermaelen is in a [protective] boot," said Wenger on the club's official website.
"We want him back and I hope he will be back soon, but not before January."

Almunia suffers injury setback
ESPN - December 16, 2010
Manuel Almunia has suffered a fresh injury setback and will not feature in Arsenal's home clash with Stoke City, while the game will also come too soon for Abou Diaby.
Almunia, who has been linked with a move away from the club in January, has twisted his ankle after weeks on the sidelines with an elbow injury and highly-rated Polish youngster Wojciech Szczesny is set to fill-in again.
Szczesny made his Premier League debut in the cauldron that is Old Trafford on Monday and performed with credit despite Arsenal slipping to a 1-0 defeat. Lukasz Fabianski has seemingly moved to the top of Arsene Wenger's goalkeeping pecking order but he is being troubled by a hip injury and a second Premier League start in a week could come Szczesny's way.
"We have to test [Lukasz] in the next two days," Wenger told the club's official website. "He has a hip muscle injury. But Wojciech did well. People always questioned the goalkeeping position at Arsenal Football Club. But I always said we had four good goalkeepers - look at how well Vito Mannone is doing at Hull. We have plenty of quality.
"Manuel Almunia has twisted his ankle but Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie are getting better and better. Also Thomas Vermaelen could be back in January we think."
Nicklas Bendtner could sit out the visit of Stoke as his partner is expected to give birth at any time. "We have not lost anyone else," Wenger said. "Nicklas Bendtner's partner is in labour and he is due to be a father today or tomorrow. So I don't know if I will involve him."
It had been suggested Diaby would be fit to take on Stoke but Wenger will not take any risks with the midfielder who has been sidelined for two months with an ankle injury.
Wenger said: "Otherwise the injury news is looking quite positive. Abou Diaby is back in full training and is not far away. But the weekend is too early for him."

Musim Quagliarella Berakhir
Meylan Fredy Ismawan - detiksport
Absennya Quagliarella jelas kerugian besar buat Juventus.

Scott Dann tears hamstring
Soccernet - January 13, 2011
Birmingham's key defender Scott Dann is facing a spell out of action after manager Alex McLeish confirmed he has torn a hamstring.
Dann needed a fitness test before playing in Tuesday night's Carling Cup semi-final clash at West Ham. But the former Coventry player had to be substituted at half-time of Birmingham's 2-1 first leg setback.
Now he looks certain to miss at least Sunday's derby with Aston Villa at St Andrew's.
McLeish said: "We hope Scott isn't too bad but he has definitely torn a hamstring. He passed a fitness test on the morning of the cup game.
"Sometimes players want to play through even a wee niggle. Sometimes they get away with it but sometimes they can end up with a bad injury.''
Dann, who was playing non-league football four years ago, has formed an effective partnership with Roger Johnson since making the move from Highfield Road during the summer of 2009.
Liam Ridgewell is likely to have to switch to play alongside Johnson against his former club on Sunday with David Murphy coming into the side at left-back.

Magpies striker woe as Ameobi ruled out
ESPN - February 3, 2011
The gloom at Newcastle looks set to deepen with the news striker Shola Ameobi faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a fractured cheekbone.
The Magpies are still coming to terms with the departure of Andy Carroll, and with no replacement brought in Ameobi was seen as the man to fill those considerable boots.
But just 13 minutes in to the 1-0 defeat at Fulham, manager Alan Pardew saw him come off with a head injury. A thorough assessment will be carried out on Thursday but the indications are not positive.
"The diagnosis on Shola is not good," Pardew said. "He has a dent in his cheekbone which suggests a fracture."
Nile Ranger replaced Ameobi but he and Leon Best carried little threat and it was a concern for Pardew.
"The strikers were not as good as they have been," he said. "Young Nile Ranger has got a lot to learn and Leon Best did not have a good night.
"Maybe there's some added pressure on them. They're going to have to deal with it. It's fair to say it will be a steep learning curve."

Liverpool's young midfielder Jonjo Shelvey will be sidelined for 12 weeks after suffering a knee tendon injury.
Shelvey, 18, was unable to represent England Under-20s against France on Wednesday evening due to the problem and is now likely to be absent until May.
He joined Liverpool from Charlton Athletic in the summer and has made nine appearances as a substitute in the Premier League, as well as starting four Europa League fixtures.
"I'm a bit down at the moment but I'm just hoping now I can come back stronger," Shelvey told the club's official website. "I am now going to take a 12-week rehabilitation and hopefully I'll be back soon."

Woodgate picks up another injury
ESPN - February 16, 2011
Tottenham have confirmed that Jonathan Woodgate picked up a strain to his left adductor muscle during Tuesday's Champions League victory over AC Milan.
Woodgate was called on as a replacement for the injured Vedran Corluka during Spurs' 1-0 win in the first leg of their last 16 clash with the Serie A leaders, and seemed afterwards to have come through the experience unscathed - despite a history of injury problems.
But that verdict appears to be premature, as the club confirmed on Wednesday that the player will have to undergo assessment for his latest setback, which could again rule him out for a number of games.
"Jonathan Woodgate has sustained a strain of the left Adductor muscle, a scan has confirmed this evening [Wednesday]," a club statement read.
"The centre-back ... will now be assessed over the coming days."
After making his first apperance in 15 months at San Siro on Tuesday, Woodgate told reporters after the game that he was delighted to prove he could return to full fitness.
"It was a great feeling to get back,'' Woodgate said. "There is nothing worse than when you can't play football. Watching games is painful when you're injured but you try to spur the lads on and give them all the confidence they need.
"A lot of people doubted whether I'd be able to get back but you have to show determination to not let bad times get you down and you have to just keep going.''

Corluka out for a month
ESPNsoccernet - February 17, 2011
Tottenham defender Vedran Corluka expects to be out for a month following Mathieu Flamini's two-footed lunge at the San Siro.
It had been feared that Corluka may be sidelined for the season, but the Croatian has revealed that he expects to be back in March.
Corluka was floored by Flamini in one of many aggressive challenges in AC Milan's defeat to Spurs, but Flamini was only booked for the tackle.
"As we expected when my leg cooled down, everything about my ankle looked worse than just after the game," Corluka told Sportske Novosti. "My ankle is swollen. It hurts so much, but the doctors are saying that things are not as bad as it seems. Luckily nothing is broken, but I will still be out for at least four weeks.
"I will know for sure how bad it is today [Thursday]. When I first saw my ankle, I was sure it would be at least two months, but luckily it is not so bad."
A statement on the Spurs website confirmed Corluka had suffered a sprained ankle and could be out for a number of weeks.
"Vedran Corluka will remain immobilised in a protective boot for the next four days after a scan determined that he had sprained part of his ankle joint capsule," the statement read.
"Following a clinical examination by a foot and ankle specialist this afternoon, it has been recommended that Vedran make a gradual return to training starting next week.
"Should the Croatia international feel no ill effects of the injury during his gradual return to training then he should be back in full training in a few weeks."

Van der Vaart suffers Spurs setback
ESPNsoccernet - February 21, 2011
Rafael van der Vaart aggravated his calf injury in training on Sunday, but should be fit to return to action in ten days' time, Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has revealed.
Van der Vaart played an hour of Tottenham's 1-0 win against AC Milan in the Champions League last Tuesday after picking up the injury in the club's 2-1 win at Bolton and will now miss the trip to Blackpool.
Redknapp confirmed that his star forward suffered a recurrence of the problem in training, yet is still confident that the Dutchman will be back to full fitness for Tottenham's game at Wolves on March 6 and the club's crucial return leg with AC Milan three days later.
"Rafa did his calf again yesterday in training so he's struggling," Redknapp said. "Rafa missed a couple of games, played in Milan, got through 70 minutes and then yesterday morning didn't feel good.
"It's a blow; he a fantastic player and we need him, but we can't get that run out of him. He missed the pre-season, after the World Cup, and I think that's a problem with niggly injuries.
"We have a break, with Wolves away next then AC Milan at home. We're hoping Rafa will be back for Wolves. He should be ok, it's not a tear."
The Tottenham boss also had two bits of good news to report, as Ledley King had surgery on his groin injury last week and could return to action soon, while Luka Modric suffered no ill-effects from his appendix operation last week and will play at Bloomfield Road tomorrow.
''Luka is back and fine. He's available tomorrow,'' Redknapp said. ''Ledley is back running and hopefully won't be too long.''

Walcott to miss Carling Cup final
ESPNsoccernet - February 23, 2011
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed Theo Walcott sprained his ankle in the 1-0 win over Stoke and will miss Sunday's Carling Cup final against Birmingham.
Walcott was bundled over by Dean Whitehead on the edge of the box in the 68th minute, but referee Peter Walton waved play on. The 21-year-old stayed on the ground, clearly in pain, before being carried off on a stretcher to be replaced by Denilson.
"He has an ankle sprain and he is out for how long I cannot tell you, for Sunday he is definitely out,'' Wenger said.
The Frenchman also said Cesc Fabregas suffered a hamstring injury and will be assessed by the club on Thursday, having lasted just 14 minutes before being replaced by Andrey Arshavin.
''Fabregas is a hamstring problem, we will assess tomorrow, tonight it is impossible to say how serious,'' he added. ''It is of course a concern that he [Fabregas] is injured but it happens unfortunately. He was very upset. I am as well. But it is not his fault or mine. It is part of sport. 'It's strange when it happens early in the game but we have to face it. We did the job after that in a very professional way.''
Fabregas took to Twitter to vow he would do his utmost to be fit for the final.
He wrote: "I dont know if I'll make Sunday or not, but all I know is that from this moment to Sunday 16:30 I won't sleep if it's necessary. I've waited too long to captain a final for Arsenal and I won't give up till the last second."
Wenger also believes that his side showed a maturity tonight that has been lacking since he last won a league championship in 2004.
''I think we have matured, certainly, because we won a game tonight when we were less creative and fluent, with intelligence and calm and that is what has changed,'' he said. ''One or two years ago we would have dropped points. Tonight they said they couldn't make mistakes. We must take a lot of credit because of that.''
The result came as a relief after Sunday's 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient and Wenger urged his team to now kick on in the league.
''This kind of wins shows that your team is really hungry for success,'' he added. ''We were less sharp on the creative side but you could tell that my side didn't want to make a mistake and that was a very positive sign for me.''
Potters boss Tony Pulis was proud of the way his 10th-placed team held their own and was upset not to have grabbed a point.
''For the first 10 minutes we looked like rabbits in headlights,'' Pulis said. ''They looked like scoring from any phase of play and it looked as though it was going to be a long night. Gradually we got into the game and we were desperately disappointed not to get something from it in the end.''
The home crowd booed Stoke captain Ryan Shawcross every time he touched the ball because of the leg-breaking tackle he made on Gunners midfielder Aaron Ramsey at the Britannia Stadium this time last year.
This was the first time the two clubs had met since the game and Pulis was delighted with the way that the defender performed.
''He did smashing. I was really pleased with Ryan tonight,'' Pulis said. ''He didn't do anything wrong tonight. The incident with Ramsey was very unfortunate for two young players, for Ramsey because of the injury, and for Ryan too because of the tag he will have against him because of the tackle but he has just got on with his job.''
Wenger rules Fabregas out of final
February 24, 2011
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of the Carling Cup final with a hamstring injury.
But there was some good news for the Gunners when it was revealed Robin van Persie, Laurent Koscielny and Abou Diaby are expected to be available after they all missed the Stoke game.
Fabregas limped off after just 14 minutes of Wednesday night's 1-0 Premier League win over Stoke and will miss Sunday's clash with Birmingham at Wembley.
"It is a very small injury but certainly Cesc will be out for Sunday,'' manager Arsene Wenger told Arsenal's official website. "For how long [beyond that] I don't know, but definitely for Sunday.
"He is disappointed. We all feel sorry and sad for him. The only way we help him now is to win the Carling Cup as he contributed a lot in this competition.''
Wenger would not be drawn on the chances of Fabregas being fit for the second leg of Arsenal's Champions League tie with Barcelona on March 8.
"It is very difficult to give a deadline,'' Wenger added. "It is impossible.''
Theo Walcott will also miss the Carling Cup final after being carried off on a stretcher in the Stoke game.
"I saw him this morning,'' Wenger added. "He has a classic ankle sprain. We don't think there is any more damage to it, but it is still a sprain.
"We are sad for him too. He is out for Sunday and maybe one or two weeks more.''
Van Persie sat out the Stoke match with a hamstring problem, Koscielny was missing with a back problem and Diaby, who was suspended, should be fit after a calf complaint.
Wenger added: "All the three will be available. That's the good news. And everybody else is all right from the Stoke game too.''

Van Persie sidelined for three weeks
ESPNsoccernet - March 1, 2011
Robin van Persie will miss Arsenal's crucial Champions League clash against Barcelona next Tuesday after being ruled out for at least three weeks with a knee injury.
Van Persie, who was injured whilst scoring for Arsenal in their 2-1 defeat in the Carling Cup final on Sunday, was in good form having netted 11 times in his last 13 games, including the equaliser in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie with Barca, which the Gunners won 2-1.
Manager Arsene Wenger said: "Unfortunately, we had bad news on the scan and he will be out for the next three weeks for sure. It could be longer. The shortest delay we can imagine is three weeks [so] he is definitely out for Barcelona."
The striker's absence is a major blow to Wenger, who is without long-term absentees Thomas Vermaelen and Lukasz Fabianski and has said Theo Walcott has little prospect of appearing in the game.
However, Wenger described Cesc Fabregas as a "possible'' for the Nou Camp trip after revealing he is making quick progress in his rehabilitation from a hamstring problem.
Wenger also had good news about Cameroon international Alex Song, who anchored the midfield against Barcelona at the Emirates.
"Song has a knee problem as well. From his scan we had good news, it is only blood from a kick on the outside of his knee. He has a good chance for Barcelona," Wenger told the club's official website.
Defender Laurent Koscielny, who is nursing a minor hamstring problem, will be fit for the trip to Spain but will be rested for Wednesday's FA Cup fifth-round replay against Leyton Orient.
Manuel Almunia will start in goal against the League One side with Wojciech Szczesny on the bench and midfielder Abou Diaby is expected to feature.
"Koscielny has a tight hamstring," Wenger said. "There is a little bit of fatigue in there as well so we will give him a breather. Almunia needs games so he will play, but Wojciech is all right and will be on the bench.
"Diaby was not in the squad on Sunday. I was cautious with him. He has missed many games this season and I did not want to take a gamble with the intensity of a cup final. He will play tomorrow night."

Fellaini season over
Soccernet - March 1, 2011
Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
Fellaini will undergo surgery next Monday after aggravating the injury in Saturday's Premier League win over Sunderland.
Fellaini, 23, missed the FA Cup fifth-round loss to Reading at Goodison Park and manager David Moyes confirmed the news after the game.
The Scot explained: ''Marouane is going to be out for the season now, he will have an operation on Monday.''
It is the second successive year an ankle injury has brought a premature end to Fellaini's season.
Fellaini, a club record £15 million signing three years ago, was out of action for around six months after an ankle operation in February 2010.
Moyes added: ''Everybody who has watched us will tell you he has been a key player for us and Tim Cahill will probably miss two or three weeks as well.''
Australia midfielder Cahill also missed the game with a foot injury.
The absence of the influential pair will be a major blow as Everton look to improve upon their mid-table position in the Premier League.

Kelly set for month out
ESPN - March 1, 2011
Liverpool defender Martin Kelly assured Reds fans that he is a "quick healer" after it was revealed that he will miss the next month of the season with a hamstring injury.
Kelly has been one of the few stand-out performers for Liverpool in what has been a disastrous season, providing defensive stability as well as a raiding threat down the right flank.
However, one of those forays down the wing saw Kelly pull up injured during the 3-1 defeat to West Ham, and Liverpool have confirmed he is likely to be out until March.
A club statement read: "Martin Kelly will be out of action for a month after sustaining a hamstring tear during Sunday's clash with West Ham United.
"Liverpool FC Head of Sports Medicine and Sports Science Dr Peter Brukner has confirmed the defender is facing four weeks on the sidelines after assessing the injury at Melwood."
Kelly added in the Liverpool Echo: "I took Scott Parker on down the right and when I took my last touch I felt a pull in my hamstring and there was no way I could carry on. I'm usually a quick healer and we have good medical staff at the club so hopefully I will be back soon."
The injury means Kelly will miss Liverpool's home clash with Manchester United, as well as both legs of their Europa League last-16 tie with Portuguese side Braga. Fortunately for Liverpool, they only have two league games in March, with Sunderland the other fixture Kelly will certainly miss.
First team coach Steve Clarke said: "It's disappointing for the player because he's been on a good run doing well for us. It's a blow for us but we can handle it and we'll move on."
Dalglish will now hope for better news on fellow injury doubts Daniel Agger, Raul Meireles and Fabio Aurelio. There is also a hope that record signing Andy Carroll will be ready to take his place on the bench against United.

Wojciech Szczesny out for six weeks
ESPNsoccernet - March 11, 2011
http://www.ghanamma.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/49e6c437011479770-1.jpg
Arsene Wenger has confirmed he will pursue an emergency loan signing as both Wojciech Szczesny and Vito Mannone have been ruled out for six weeks, leaving Manuel Almunia as the club's only senior goalkeeper.
Szczesny had established himself as Arsenal's No. 1 with a number of composed performances but the Poland international sustained a finger injury in the 3-1 defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday.
Wenger confirmed on Friday that the talented 20-year-old will miss the next six weeks, meaning he is likely to be sidelined for up to six Premier League games, as well as the FA Cup semi-final should Arsenal defeat Manchester United in the competition on Saturday.
Italian Mannone, currently on loan at Hull City, has also been struck down by a thigh problem and with Lukasz Fabianski already sidelined for the remainder of the season, Arsenal are hoping to bring in reinforcements.
"We need now an experienced goalkeeper as cover for Almunia because Mannone is out for six weeks so we cannot call on him," Wenger told the club's official website.
"Mannone is here at the training ground having treatment but he cannot play for the next six weeks. We can call him back [from Hull City] but he is not available.
"We have Wojciech out, in my opinion for six weeks. We have Fabianski out for the rest of the season. We need absolutely some cover in goal."
Djourou out for the season

Johan Djourou is helped off the pitch
Arsenal defender Johan Djourou will miss the rest of the season after suffering a dislocated shoulder in his side's FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester United.
Djourou was injured in the second half at Old Trafford as he almost turned Wayne Rooney's cross into his own net.
The 24-year-old took a nasty blow in reaching for the ball when team-mate Bacary Sagna crashed into him and eventually left the field on a stretcher after extensive treatment.
''Unfortunately we have lost Djourou now for the rest of the season,'' manager Arsene Wenger confirmed after the 2-0 defeat which leaves the Gunners with just the Premier League to play for this season.
Djourou's injury was a gloomy postscript to a shattering fortnight for Arsenal. Two weeks ago Gunners supporters were talking optimistically of an unprecedented quadruple.
Defeats to Birmingham and Barcelona in the Carling Cup final and Champions League respectively wrecked that dream, and goals from Fabio and Wayne Rooney either side of the break at Old Trafford now leave Arsenal with only the Premier League title to play for.
''I cannot fault our effort but things do not go our way at present,'' Wenger said. ''We have lost three big challenges in a strange way. One in the last minute with a goal from nowhere, one under very strange circumstances in Barcelona and today in a match where we were not outplayed but were punished by a team that was more clinical than us.''
Wenger is trying to maintain an air of positivity but felt the hangover from the disappointment of Tuesday's defeat at the Nou Camp was still present in too many of his players' performances.
''Subconsciously I feel the disappointment of Tuesday played a part in the game,'' he said. ''You could see something has gone, not in our effort or attitude, but confidence-wise.
''But I don't feel like the season is slipping away. I believe we can do it. It is a good test for us now to show we can regroup and show the mental strength and togetherness quickly.
''We will have to answer this kind of question in the next two or three weeks. We have to show we have an answer. We are used to being questioned. We have to show we are strong enough to deal with it.''

Relief for Arsenal over Van Persie
ESPNsoccernet - March 29, 2011
Arsenal striker Robin van Persie was forced off at half-time during Netherlands' Euro 2012 qualifying victory over Hungary after picking up an injury - but Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk says it is not serious.
Van Persie was hacked down by Hungary defender Vilmos Vanczak in the first half of an enthralling 5-3 victory for the home side, after he had put his side ahead.
The 27-year-old hobbled off at the interval and was replaced for the second half by veteran Hamburg striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Van Persie was recently sidelined with a knee injury he picked up during Arsenal's 2-1 Carling Cup defeat with Birmingham but returned for the Gunners' Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona.
"He got kneed in his thigh. But he can play with Arsenal again this weekend," said van Marwijk after the game.
Arsenal will be hoping it is not too serious as they challenge for the Premier League crown, with games against title rivals Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool to come.
Van Persie has picked up two serious injuries in recent years on international duty.

Blackburn lose Nelsen to injury
ESPNsoccernet - April 14, 2011
Blackburn Rovers' hopes of avoiding relegation have been hit by the news that defender Ryan Nelsen will be unavailable for the remaining six games of the season.
Nelsen underwent knee surgery on Monday and the club have confirmed that the influential New Zealand international will not play again in the 2010-11 campaign.
Blackburn are currently just three points clear of relegation.
"Ryan had an operation on his knee and he is out for the rest of the season unfortunately," manager Steve Kean told the club's official website. "If the surgeon had gone in and looked at his knee in January he'd have probably done the same operation.
"So with good medical back-up we've managed to get him on the pitch more times than we thought we would have got. The prognosis is that he'll be back some time in August, he just has to rest up for a month and do the rehab from there.
"Fortunately for us we lose Ryan at a time when Phil Jones is back fully fit. He's slotted back in there and looked like he'd never been away from central defence so that is fantastic for us, but it is unfortunate that we lose Nelly."

Tevez blow gives Mancini 'big problem'
ESPNsoccernet - April 14, 2011
Roberto Mancini has revealed Carlos Tevez could be out for up to four weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury during Monday's 3-0 defeat at Liverpool.
The news means Manchester City will be without their captain for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
Mancini had initially said he expected Tevez to be out for a fortnight after he was substituted in the first half at Anfield, but it now appears likely the forward will struggle to return before City's penultimate Premier League game against Stoke on May 14.
"Tevez is not available for Saturday," Mancini said. "I think he will recover in three or four weeks. It is a big problem but we can't take any risks. We have six games left and hopefully we can get Carlos back for the last two or three games."
Mancini is now encouraging Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko to seize the opportunity.
Balotelli has shown signs of his quality since his summer move from Inter and has scored ten goals in all competitions, but he has also attracted criticism for his work-rate and off-field behaviour. Dzeko, meanwhile, has not yet scored a Premier League goal, although he has scored once in the FA Cup against Notts County and twice in the Europa League against Aris Salonika.
"I still have to decide what to do [in the semi-final], but both players know this is an important chance for them," Mancini said. "Every player knows this is an important moment for the club. If we win, we can go to a final, so every player will give 100%."
In defence, City will at least be boosted by the return of Micah Richards, who was back in training on Wednesday after suffering a hamstring injury last month.
"Micah Richards is available," Mancini said. "He trained two days ago and again yesterday. He will be okay."

'Gutted' Sunderland striker Campbell faces another year out as knee injury forces him back under the knife
DailyMail, Sami Mokbel - 16th April 2011
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/04/15/article-1377196-0BA3E3CF00000578-184_468x340.jpg
Fraizer Campbell was said to feel 'gutted' on Friday night after being told he will miss the next 12 months with a knee injury.
The Sunderland striker appeared to be on the road to recovery after suffering a cruciate ligament injury last August. But he now faces further surgery on the same knee after twisting it in training.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce said: 'We fear for him. We think the surgeon needs to have a look inside his knee again and if it does need repairing, then Fraizer is going to miss the best part of next season as well.'
It was confirmed by a specialist in London that Campbell, 23, is facing a long road back to fitness. A source close to the player said: 'It's a massive blow. He was looking sharp after recovering from injury. He’s gutted.'
Campbell has not played since August 29 last year when he suffered the cruciate ligament injury in Sunderland’s 1-0 win over Manchester City. And after eight months out, the former Manchester United striker was close to making a first-team return.
But during the final training session before the 5-0 defeat by Roberto Mancini’s side on April 3, Campbell injured the same knee.
Same problem: Titus Bramble has also suffered a knee injury which will keep him out
The news is a bitter blow to Sunderland who have struggled for goals since Darren Bent joined Aston Villa in January, slumping to a run of one point from a possible 24.
Meanwhile, defender Titus Bramble has confirmed he is unlikely to play again this season, but was boosted by the news that he does not need surgery to repair knee cartilage damage.
He said: 'That's a bonus. Will make sure I'm right for the start of next season.'

Dortmund Kehilangan Nuri Sahin
DORTMUND - Kabar buruk menghampiri Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund semakin dekat menuju gelar juara Bundesliga.

Martins to miss end of season
Soccernet - April 29, 2011
Birmingham's on-loan Carling Cup hero Obafemi Martins has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on a stress fracture of the leg.
Martins, on loan from Russian side Rubin Kazan, scored the winner in the shock Carling Cup win over Arsenal at Wembley in February but he has not played since appearing against Wigan in mid-March.
"Oba has had surgery and it's a blow for him and a blow for us and we wish him a speedy recovery," Alex McLeish said. "He passed his medical and everything was fine for six weeks but then it became obvious something was not quite right.
"The problem has crept up on him during the past month or so and a stress fracture was diagnosed.''
Blues were understood to have an option to buy Martins for around £4 million when he made the temporary switch to St Andrew's.
He will remain with City until the loan spell expires at the end of May, but it remains to be seen whether the move will now go ahead. McLeish has made it clear he will not talk about any possible transfer deals until the end of the campaign.

More injury woe for Sunderland

Kieran Richardson has been sidelined by a stress fracture of a shin
"The boy has got a stress fracture and will miss the rest of the season"
- Steve Bruce
The club have confirmed Richardson has suffered a stress fracture of his left fibula and will be out for at least three weeks, ruling him out for the rest of the campaign.
The former England midfielder, who has also operated at full-back and just behind a lone striker for the Black Cats this season, sustained the injury in the 3-2 defeat at home to West Bromwich Albion on 9th April, and joins the long list of walking wounded at the Stadium of Light.
Medical People
Manager Steve Bruce, who was already struggling to put a team together for Saturday's trip to Bolton Wanderers, is, however hopeful that Richardson will be able to return for pre-season training.
Bruce said: "Unfortunately, we have got to report that Kieran has a stress fracture in his left fibula. We X-rayed him after the game against West Brom and then subsequently scanned him two or three days later. The scans and the X-rays revealed nothing at all apart from a badly bruised bone."
"Unfortunately, what the medical people are telling me is that they [stress fractures] can appear within 10 days to three weeks. Consequently, we re-scanned him on Thursday when we detected that unfortunately, the boy has got a stress fracture and will miss the rest of the season."
"But we hope he is going to be joining in pre-season."
Bruce is without a recognised senior striker for Saturday's Barclays Premier League match at Bolton with Asamoah Gyan, Fraizer Campbell and on-loan Danny Welbeck all absent.
Midfielders Lee Cattermole and Jordan Henderson are struggling to be fit for the trip to the Reebok Stadium while defender Titus Bramble is another long-term injury victim, as is goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
However Bruce says he will not use injuries as an excuse for Sunderland's poor recent run and is targeting defensive improvement at the Reebok.
The manager says his side must tighten up at the back to compensate after conceding 15 goals in five matches during April.
The Black Cats have kept 12 clean sheets in the Barclays Premier League this season but only one in their last 13 outings.
More Resilient
He told the official club website: "There's no hiding place from the disappointment we all feel. As the leader of it all I'm more disappointed than ever.
"It's not easy doing interviews and speaking to people at the moment because you can't hide the fact that the last 10 games have ruined what had the potential to be a fantastic season.
"Of course, everything has been analysed, looked at and I think most sensible people understand the reasons. However, we have three games to play and nine points to play for with plenty of teams we can still catch."
"We'll do our utmost to make sure we're more resilient against Bolton. "We played some excellent stuff for the first 40 minutes of the Fulham game but didn't take our chances. We missed a cutting edge and that's why strikers cost big money. The hardest thing in football is to score a goal."
"My biggest problem is the resilience of our defending. We've never been prolific goalscorers - the season was based on the defensive record. I'm not going to make excuses. We should be defending better."

Puyol Istirahat 2-3 Bulan
Arya Perdhana - detiksport

Jack Wilshere: Recovering from ankle injury
Arsenal starlet Jack Wilshere will be sidelined for a further two months due to a persistent problem with his right ankle.
Wilshere has not started a competitive game this season and the Gunners are reluctant to rush the 19-year-old back into action after suffering a set back with his rehabilitation.
The England international, who is currently wearing a surgical boot to protect the injury, was thought to have recovered by late July but he limped off after just seven minutes of Arsenal's pre-season match with New York Red Bulls.
Wilshere then suffered a setback in training last month, and was forecast to be out for just "two or three weeks'' by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. However he is now not expected back until November.
An Arsenal spokesman confirmed: "He will be out for a couple more months, he needs to rest and then we will see where he's at.''
The concern is that if Wilshere is rushed back and breaks down again, then the insertion of a screw into the joint may be needed and that would further complicate the issue.
The midfielder later tweeted: "I can confirm I will be out for around 2-3 months! I am working hard in the gym to stay fit and I am gutted but I will be back stronger!"
Speaking just prior to Arsenal confirming Wilshere would need an extended break, his club colleague Theo Walcott expressed hope the teenager would be able to return sooner than in two months' time.
Walcott said at an England press conference: "Jack's a very important player for us. It's a shame he's had this ankle problem.
"But he's a bright lad - he'll be back as soon as he can. Fingers crossed it's going to be a bit sooner than that [two months]. He'll have to get back as soon as possible.
"We're going to miss him but he's professional enough to get on with it.''

Spurs suffer Van der Vaart blow
ESPNSoccernet - September 3, 2011

Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury.
Van der Vaart hobbled off during Tottenham's 5-1 defeat at home to Manchester City last weekend, and scans have revealed Van der Vaart has torn his left hamstring.
A statement on Spurs' official website confirmed that the Dutchman could be out of action for up to six weeks.
The news will come as a blow for Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp, who will be without Van der Vaart for Premier League clashes against Wolves, Liverpool and Wigan, as well as the north London derby against Arsenal at White Hart Lane. He will also miss the start of Spurs' Europa League campaign.

Spurs' Dawson out for two months
Soccernet - September 12, 2011
Tottenham Hotspur have been hit by the news that they will be without captain Michael Dawson for the next two months.
The central defender has an achilles problem to leave Harry Redknapp struggling for options at the heart of his defence.
Dawson picked up the injury in training and missed Spurs' 2-0 victory away to Wolves in the Premier League.
With only Younes Kaboul available and both William Gallas and Ledley King suffering long-term fitness problems, Redknapp may be forced to use Croatian international Vedran Corluka in their stead, and Sebastian Bassong coming in from the cold. Spurs tried to sell the Cameroon defender in the transfer window while missing out in their interest in Bolton's Gary Cahill.

Rodallega suffers knee ligament rupture
ESPNsoccernet - September 17, 2011

Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega is set for a long spell on the sidleines after suffering knee ligament damage in the 3-1 defeat at Everton.
Rodallega was stretchered off in injury time at Goodison Park and manager Roberto Martinez confirmed the injury was a serious one.
"It is too early to tell but the signs are not good, it seems like it's a rupture of the medial ligament in his right knee,'' said Martinez. "He will have a scan in the morning but it doesn't look a good one.''
Pato Panjangkan Daftar Cedera Rossonerri

Pato Absen Empat Pekan

Wilshere Segera Naik Meja Operasi

Tak Hanya Arsenal, Cedera Walcott Juga Bikin Capello Tambah Pusing
Kubu Arsenal kembali dinaungi awan kelabu. Setelah kehilangan Jack Wilshere, kini Arsenal juga harus merelakan Theo Walcott menepi sementara waktu.
Penyebabnya? cedera.

Wilshere facing five month wait
ESPNsoccernet - September 26, 2011
Arsenal's Jack Wilshere has undergone successful surgery on his injured right ankle but could be out for four to five months.

Wilshere has been recovering from a stress fracture and Arsenal medical staff hoped the problem would heal itself with the help of a protective boot. However, the club confirmed late on Friday evening Wilshere's ankle failed to respond to the treatment and he would need surgery.
Having gone under the knife on Monday, he said on his Twitter account: ''Had my operation and all went well! I am feeling good will spend the night in hospital to monitor me but apart from that I am happy!''
It had been thought that he would be out until Christmas, but a statement on the Arsenal website read: ''The initial indications are that the surgery has been successful and Jack will now undergo a prolonged period of rehabilitation. It is envisaged that Jack's rehabilitation will take a period of four to five months.''
Wilshere added: ''I've had my operation this morning and all went well. My ankle is little bit sore, but I'm already looking forward to working hard to get fit and playing again.
''I would also just like to say thanks for the many messages of support I have received from you - the fantastic Arsenal supporters. See you all soon at the Emirates.''
The England midfielder has been troubled by his ankle throughout the summer, having sustained the original knock in the Euro 2012 qualifier between England and Switzerland in June, and then aggravating it in a pre-season game a month later.

Cech: Kepala Saya Seperti Dipukul Seorang Petinju
"Saya mengalami gegar otak.
