Manchester United's Park Ji-sung has been left of the South Korea squad by coach Huh Jung-moo for the friendly against Paraguay on August 12.
Huh has called up European-based stars such as Wigan's Cho Won-hee and Park Chu-young of Monaco while there is a recall for former Middlesbrough forward Lee Dong-gook, who is the leading scorer in the K-League this season with Jeonbuk Motors and joins the national team for the first time since the 2007 AFC Asian Cup.
"There is a full list of fixtures and the club (Manchester United) have made new signings so the start of the season is very important for Park," Huh said.
Park has had a busy summer, first helping the national team to achieve a seventh straight appearance at the World Cup in June and then was back in Asia in July as United toured the region.
"The situations for Park Chu-young and Cho Won-hee are different to Park Ji-sung. After their vacations they started training immediately with their teams," Huh added.

Ben Foster could have an early opportunity to put United's Community Shield disappointment behind him, in England's midweek friendly against Holland.
The Reds keeper looks the most likely to start from a trio of shot-stoppers picked by Fabio Capello - the other two being West Ham's Robert Green and Blackburn's Paul Robinson.
Foster is one of four Reds in the England squad although there is no place for Michael Owen - at least not yet. Capello said of the new United striker, "The door is open. He is young, he is only 29 and he has a fantastic chance to play with a really important team (United) and play in the Champions League. He has to play well and score (for United)."
In other words, if Owen does the business for his club, he'll be back in contention for his country. In the meantime, his fellow Old Trafford forward Wayne Rooney plus defender Rio Ferdinand and midfielder Michael Carrick complete England's United quartet.
Darren Fletcher is also lined up for international duty this week, for Scotland in their World Cup qualifier in Norway. Patrice Evra's France have a qualifier in the Faroe Islands, while Dimitar Berbatov (Bulgaria v Latvia, friendly), Jonny Evans (Northern Ireland v Israel) and Darron Gibson (Republic of Ireland v Australia) could all feature in friendlies.
However, Nani will miss Portugal's trip to Liechtenstein after sustaining a shoulder injury.

Nani is hopeful that he can recover from a dislocated shoulder in time to play for Portugal on Wednesday against Liechtenstein. "I think I can recover in time. We'll see how it turns out," Nani said Monday as he arrived to join the Portuguese squad.
The winger dislocated his left shoulder in a clash with John Terry during Manchester United's Community Shield game against Chelsea on Sunday. Nani scored the opening goal but the game ended level on 2-2 and Chelsea went on to win in a penalty shootout.
"It's painful and it needs treatment," Nani said of his shoulder. "It's not a very serious injury. I need to take care of it and I expect to get better in the coming days."
Nani said he will stay with the Portuguese squad for the friendly game in Vaduz, Liechtenstein.

Youngsters impress on national duty
Tom Cleverley and Febian Brandy both scored twice for England's Under-20s in a rampant 5-0 win over Montenegro at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night.
Brandy put England in front after 13 minutes when he beat the offside trap and finished neatly. The Manchester-born striker then added a second on the stroke of half-time with a rasping volley.
After the break Cleverley, who impressed in a first half in which he'd also missed a penalty, got in on the goalscoring act.
The Reds midfielder grabbed England's third three minutes after the break, and then with eight minutes remaining he skilfully curled a low shot into the bottom corner, before Tope Obadeyi completed the rout in injury time.
It's the perfect preparation for Cleverley, Brandy and co. ahead of next month's FIFA U20 World Cup in Egypt.
Elsewhere, Oliver Norwood made his debut for Northern Ireland U21s in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Portugal. Burnley-born Norwood was joined in the side by fellow Reds midfielder Corry Evans.

Northern Ireland reduce Manchester United's defensive issues by sending Jonny Evans back to the club
dailymail.co.uk - 12th August 2009
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/08/12/article-0-06016875000005DC-966_468x353.jpg
Nigel Worthington has come to Manchester United's rescue by agreeing to let Jonny Evans return to Old Trafford for treatment, rather than risk aggravating a slight ankle injury against Israel at Windsor Park tonight.
With Nemanja Vidic already ruled out of Sunday's opening Barclays Premier League game with Birmingham, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was eager to safeguard Evans' fitness and ensure he was able to continue alongside Rio Ferdinand at the heart of the champions' defence.
Evans has trained with the rest of the Northern Ireland squad ahead of their World Cup warm-up game, but Worthington went along with a request from United and allowed the Belfast youngster to fly back to Manchester this morning.
Stephen Craigan will partner Aaron Hughes in the middle of defence, with Chris Baird and George McCartney filling the full-back roles.
Rangers midfielder Steve Davis is a surprise absentee from the starting line-up, but record goalscorer David Healy will win his 75th cap, despite suggestions he may be rested after failing to hit the target in Northern Ireland's last five games.
Northern Ireland: Taylor; Baird, Craigan, Hughes, McCartney; Johnson, Clingan, McCann, Brunt; Lafferty, Healy.

Park scores in S Korea 1-0 win over Paraguay
kuwaittimes.net - August 13, 2009
SEOUL: Park Chu-young came off the bench to score a late goal yesterday to give South Korea a 1-0 win over Paraguay in a friendly. The Monaco winger collected the rebound after goalkeeper Justo Villar had deflected a close-range shot and fired the ball into the top corner in the 83rd minute. Paraguay was missing star striker Roque Santa Cruz, who was recovering from knee surgery. South Korea coach Huh Jung-moo didn't select several key players, including Manchester United's Park Ji-sung and recent Bolton
Wanderers signing Lee Chung-yong.
The South Koreans, which have already qualified for next year's World Cup with an unbeaten record, have usually struggled against South American teams. Paraguay has now lost four straight matches and is yet to qualify for the tournament in South Africa. South Korea finished top of its qualifying group with 16 points, four ahead of North Korea, which also advanced. It was the first time North Korea had reached a World Cup since 1966, and it will be the first time the two Koreas play in the same World Cup.
Paraguay is third in its qualifying group with 24 points, two points clear of Argentina and four ahead of Ecuador. The top four teams qualify automatically. The hosts' best attempt in the first half was Yeom Ki-hun's 38th-minute free kick that was stopped in a diving save by Villar. Lee Dong-gook, playing his first international for South Korea since the 2007 Asian Cup, had earlier had a header from a free kick stopped by the goalkeeper.
Paraguay improved in the second half but still rarely threatened - Salvador Cabanas failed to properly connect with a cross in the 55th and Oscar Cardozo sent his shot wide in the 75th. South Korea will play Australia and Senegal in upcoming friendlies, so Huh can likely expose his team to different playing styles. Paraguay next faces Bolivia and Argentina in qualifiers. - AP

Tosic double downs South Africa
FIFA.com - Wednesday 12 August 2009
http://www.fifa.com/mm/photo/tournament/competition/84/11/69/841169%5fmedium.jpg
Manchester United reserve Zoran Tosic scored twice for Serbia as hosts South Africa continued their countdown to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ with a 3-1 friendly loss.
Most of the drama came in the second half at Super Stadium outside Pretoria with Danko Lazovic claiming the other Serbian goal, while Katlego Mphela reduced the deficit deep in stoppage time. The result served as a reality check for a South African team widely praised by the public and media after finishing fourth in the FIFA Confederations Cup.
Serbia, lacking injured star defender Nemanja Vidic and midfielder general and captain Dejan Stankovic, comfortably soaked up first-half South African pressure before taking control after half-time and building a three-goal lead. "We have a key World Cup qualifier against France next month and this result was very important because it will give us a lot of confidence," said half-time substitute Tosic.
Coach Radomir Antic said: "This was a good warm-up for France. South Africa were very skilful in the first half while Serbia dominated the second and I'm confident that we are building a really solid team."
South Africa coach Joel Santana, who arrived in the country just 24 hours before the match after taking ill in his native Brazil, hailed Serbia as a country destined to reach the 2010 FIFA World Cup. "Serbia are a very good team, but we made it easier for them by conceding too much space in midfield after half-time. I was very impressed with my team in the first half when the marking and positional play was excellent."
Bafana Bafana came close to scoring after two minutes when a Mphela free kick was parried by goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic on to the crossbar. The vistors almost broke the deadlock twice late in the opening half only to be foiled by a brave block from goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and a timely tackle from midfielder Macbeth Sibaya.
Tosic had a penalty appeal rejected before holding off Matthew Booth to stab the ball across substitute goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez into the far corner on 56 minutes. Lazovic half volleyed an Ivan Obradovic cross wide of Fernandez after 67 minutes and Tosic turned Lucas Thwala twice inside the penalty area before firing home the third goal 10 minutes later.
South Africa were facing a record home defeat until Mphela salvaged a little pride three mintues into stoppage time, bursting through the middle and lifting the ball over Stojkovic.

Reds quartet get England call-ups

England Under-17 head coach John Peacock has included new first-year scholars Sam Johnstone, Tom Thorpe, Ravel Morrison and Will Keane in his squad for the upcoming FA International Tournament.
The annual four-team tournament will this year feature Portugal, Italy and Turkey, with England as hosts, and gets underway on August 26th. Games will be staged at Notts County’s Meadow Lane, Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium and Northampton Town’s Sixfields Stadium.
Goalkeeper Johnstone is one of four players retained by Peacock from the squad that took part in the summer’s U17 European finals, but for the trio of Thorpe (a centre-back), Morrison (a winger/attacking midfieler) and Keane (an attacking midfielder/forward) it’s a first call-up at this level. All four United youngsters were part of Kenny Swain’s U16 squad last season, so they’re not strangers to representing their country.

United have a host of players away on international duty over the next week, with 17 Reds attempting to boost their country’s hopes of reaching next summer’s World Cup finals in South Africa.
Ji-sung Park and Antonio Valencia face the longest trips this week. Fortunately Park only has one match for Korea, against Australia in Seoul on Saturday.
But Valencia is in Columbia and Bolivia for Ecuador’s matches on Saturday and next Wednesday.
Wes Brown is one of four Reds - alongside Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Ben Foster - who joined up with the England squad for their games against Slovenia and Croatia.
However, the Reds defender is already a doubt for Saturday's game against Slovenia after picking up an injury during training this week.
There was better news for Northern Ireland, though, as Jonny Evans gave them a boost ahead of matches with Poland and Slovakia by training with the squad despite having problems with an ankle injury of late.

Cleverley’s U21 bow headlines long list of international callups

As ever during international breaks, the main focus of fans and media is on the many United first-teamers away representing their countries in the next week or so (an alarming 16 away with senior national sides this time around), but there’s an equally lengthy list of young players in action in various age groups and competitions to keep track of. Here’s a quick rundown on who, where and when…
England U21
Who: Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley
When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifiers vs Macedonia away (4/9/09 in Prilep) and Greece away (8/9/09, Tripoli)
More Info: Cleverley’s first U21 callup reflects brilliant start to the season with United & Watford. Welbeck has two U21 caps.
Italy U21
Who: Federico Macheda
When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifiers vs Wales away (4/9/09 in Swansea) and Luxembourg at home (8/9/09 in Novara)
More Info: Kiko’s looking for a competitive U21 debut after his first Azzurini appearance vs Russia last month.
Northern Ireland U21
Who: Craig Cathcart
When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifiers vs Czech Republic away (4/9/09 in Jablonec) and Iceland at home (8/9/09 in Coleraine)
More Info: Cathcart deemed fit enough to travel despite apparently failing Newcastle medical. Corry Evans a surprise absentee, Ollie Norwood yet to recieve clearance to play competitive for NI (having already done so for England at U17 level).
Scotland U21
Who: David Gray
When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier vs Austria away (5/9/09 in Maria Enzersdorf)
More Info: Gray looking for a second U21 cap.
Serbia U21
Who: Adem Ljajić
When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifiers vs Slovakia at home (5/9/09 in Vojvodina) and Norway away (9/9/09 in Fredrikstad)
More Info: Ljajić already has four U21 caps despite still being just 17.
England U19
Who: Reece Brown, Cameron Stewart, Matt James
When/Where: Friendly vs Russia at home (8/9/09 in Shrewsbury)
More Info: James retains his place from the summer’s European finals, while Stewart and Brown get first callups. Full squad can be found here.
Ireland U19
Who: Robbie Brady
When/Where: Four Nations Tournament vs Turkey, Holland and Portugal (5/8/09 to 8/9/09 in Dublin and Bray)
More Info: Brady’s terrific start to the season was always likely to bring a first U19 callup.
Ireland U17
Who: Sean McGinty
When/Where: Syrenka International Cup (30/8/09 to 5/9/09 in Łódź, Poland)
More Info: New signing McGinty was an U17 international regular whilst a schoolboy at Charlton last season.
In addition, a number of young Reds will be in action for their full national teams. Darron Gibson is likely to feature in midfield for Ireland in their World Cup qualifier vs Cyprus (5/9/09 in Nicosia) and friendly vs World Cup hosts South Africa (8/9/09 in Limerick), while Jonny Evans has put off an ankle operation in order to help Northern Ireland’s bid to qualify for the 2010 finals, which continues with clashes against Poland (5/9/09 in Chorzow) and Slovakia (9/9/09 in Belfast).
Further afield, Zoran Tošić joins Nemanja Vidic in the Serbia squad for their home qualifier against France on September 9th, and will be looking to build on his two-goal showing last time out against South Africa. Ritchie de Laet’s almost meteoric rise from obscurity continues apace meanwhile, with a first meaningful call-up for Belgium’s away qualifiers against Spain (5/9) and Armenia (9/9).

Ji-sung Park was the first United star to taste international action this weekend, as South Korea cruised to a 3-1 win over Australia in Seoul on Saturday.
Park, who captained his side, set up the hosts’ final goal, crossing for Seol Ki-Hyeon to head past his Fulham team-mate, Mark Schwarzer.
It was a good day for Reds, with Luis Valencia the only United player to suffer defeat: Ecuador lost 2-0 against Colombia in Medellin.
Earlier, on Saturday evening, Darren Fletcher played 90 minutes for Scotland as George Burley’s men beat Macedonia 2-0 at Hampden Park to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
At Wembley, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick were both involved against Slovenia, with England doing just enough to win the friendly encounter 2-1. Rooney won England’s controversial penalty (controversial only because nobody in the ground was even looking for a foul), which Frank Lampard duly converted, while Michael Carrick was solid after coming on in midfield at half-time.
Dimitar Berbatov was on target from the penalty spot in Bulgaria’s come-from-behind 4-1 win over Montenegro in Group 8. Berbatov bagged the third from 12 yards to help the Bulgarian side to a much-needed three points.
Elsewhere in the same group, John O’Shea lined up at right-back against Cyprus in the Republic of Ireland’s crunch clash while Darron Gibson was an unused substitute. Giovanni Trappatoni’s men clinched a 2-1 victory via a late Robbie Keane header. The three points means the side remain in second place, behind Italy.
In Copenhagen, Nani was an unused substitute for Portugal as Carlos Quieroz’s men scored a late goal to salvage a 1-1 draw against Denmark.
Jonny Evans was also in action on Saturday night. The youngster played at the heart of Northern Ireland's defence in their 1-1 away draw against Poland. The Poles threw everything at the visitors but Evans and his fellow defenders stood firm to earn a valuable point in Group 3.
In Paris, Patrice Evra played 90 minutes for France in Les Bleus’ 1-1 with Romania. Evra could now face United team-mates Nemanja Vidic and Zoran Tosic on Wednesday in Serbia.
Ritchie De Laet was called up to the Belgium squad for their game against Spain but there was no room in Frank Vercauteren’s 17-man matchday squad for the young defender.
Meanwhile, in U21 action on Friday night, Federico Macheda came on for the final minutes of Italy’s 2-1 loss to Wales, while Tom Cleverley made his England U21 debut as a late substitute in a 2-1 victory in Macedonia.
International results
South Korea 3-1 Australia
Scotland 2-0 Macedonia
England 2-1 Slovenia
Bulgaria 4-1 Montenegro
Cyprus 1-2 Rep. Ireland
Denmark 1-1 Portugal
Poland 1-1 Northern Ireland

Republic of Ireland 1 South Africa 0: Lawrence fires timely reminder to Trapattoni
By COLIN YOUNG Last updated at 1:06 AM on 09th September 2009
Liam Lawrence hopes he has convinced Giovanni Trapattoni he has a part to play in Ireland's World Cup adventure after his superb match-winner in Thomond Park.
The Stoke midfielder marked his second Ireland start with a perfectly-executed free-kick to seal an unconvincing win over World Cup hosts South Africa.
Lawrence admitted he was disappointed not to get a run-out in Saturday's qualifying win in Cyprus, but he is ready to face Italy in Croke Park next month.
He said: `It plants a seed in the manager's head for the next qualifier, so hopefully I will be involved again.
`If I continue to improve with Stoke and play regularly there, then I have got every chance of being involved again for the next match.
`It was really good to get a full 90 minutes under my belt on Irish turf, and I am absolutely delighted with the win as well.
`It was not a second string team, but there were a few fringe players thrown in tonight, including myself, and it was important we went out there and gave a good account of ourselves, and I thought we did that.
`I was just dying to get involved. I was disappointed on Saturday not being involved, but you just have to channel that into the right areas and work hard in training and wait for your chance, and I have done.
`We have got a massive game at the weekend against Chelsea, but I don't think I'll catch one like that again for a while. I caught it well and luckily it went in - and it ended to be the winning goal, so I am delighted.'
Something to shout about: Giovanni Trapatton
Something to shout about: Giovanni Trapattoni was pleased with the performance of his young team
Trapattoni will fly to Turin with his assistant Marco Tardelli to see Italy's crucial clash with Bulgaria.
He refused to discuss the game or the remainder of the qualifiers. `I do not want to jinx anything,' he said, as he dramatically crossed fingers on both hands.
The Ireland manager was satisfied with the win, although conceded South Africa's dominance in possession had caused some concern among the Irish coaching staff.
He added: `I wanted to see some personality as well as the performance and it confirmed my opinion about Lawrence and Nolan because I saw them in the club and in training and I was not so sure.
`It gives me hope to have a squad with ability. sure South Africa had more possession but I expected that from a team like them.
`It was important that three or four of the young players got to play - I wanted to see their qualities - and I have seen them now.'
Trapattoni revealed he and assistant Marco Tardelli have tried to find former Sunderland midfielder Liam Miller a club but so far without success. Miller was included in last night's squad ahead of the likes of Andy Reid, Lee Carsley and Mark Yeates even though he has been unable to secure a club during the summer.
The Ireland boss said: `Liam is a good player, tactically and we have told Italian clubs about him. We are hopeful he will find a club because he is in our squad and if we had scored a second goal I would have played him.
`He is a clever player. He doesn't have great morale. he is very humble person, he's not presumptuous or arrogant.'
Teams:
Republic of Ireland: Keiren Westwood (Coventry City); Stephen Kelly (Fulham), Sean St. Ledger (Preston North End), Paul McShane (Hull City), Eddie Nolan (Preston North End); Liam Lawrence (Stoke City), Darron Gibson (Manchester United), Keith Andrews (Blackburn Rovers), Andy Keogh (Wolves); Kevin Doyle (Wolves) - captain, Caleb Folan (Hull City). Substitutes: Leon Best (Coventry City) for Doyle 59; Darren O'Dea (Celtic/Reading) for McShane 62; Damien Duff (Fulham) for Keogh 78.
South Africa: Fernandez; Gaxa, Mokoena, Gould, Masilela; Van Heerden, Parker, Dikgacoi, Pienaar, Mhlongo; Mphela. Substitutes: Mabhudi for Van Heerden 59; Tshabalala for Parker 63; Kenyekane for Mphela 74; Thwala for Masilela 78; Ngobeni for Dikgacoi 81.

Wayne Rooney scored England’s final goal at Wembley on Wednesday night as Fabio Capello’s men sealed their place at next summer’s World Cup with a thumping 5-1 win over Croatia.
Ben Foster and Wes Brown were unused substitutes for England, while Michael Carrick missed out on a place on the bench.
Elsewhere, there was heartache for Darren Fletcher as Scotland’s 1-0 home defeat at the hands of the Netherlands brought an end to his World Cup dream.
Rooney wasn’t the only United man on the scoresheet on Wednesday: Antonio Valencia found the net for Ecuador as La Tri beat Bolivia 3-1 in La Paz.
Back in Europe, Serbia held France to a 1-1 draw in Group 7 as Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra lined up on opposite sides. Both men played the full 90 minutes, while Zoran Tosic was an unused Serbian substitute.
Dimitar Berbatov’s Bulgaria slumped to a 2-0 defeat in Italy but Nani left Hungary smiling after playing eight minutes in Portugal’s vital 1-0 win in Group 1.
There was no good news for Jonny Evans, however. Slovakia were too good for Northern Ireland in Belfast, leaving Nigel Worthington’s men with an all-but-impossible task to reach South Africa 2010.
On Tuesday night, Darron Gibson played 90 minutes in Republic of Ireland’s friendly against South Africa at Croke Park, Limerick. A Liam Lawrence goal gave the home side a 1-0 win.

Reds set for crunch qualifiers
http://picsrv.manutd.com/?fif=/manu/img_10_25293_7150.jpg&obj=iip,1.0&wid=480&hei=179&rgn=0.036,0.09018567639257294,0.96,0.2374005305039 7877&cvt=jpeg
This international break is as much characterised by the number of Reds not playing as those fighting for the final World Cup qualification places for next summer's tournament in South Africa.
For various reasons, Edwin van der Sar, Ben Foster, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Owen Hargreaves, Darren Fletcher, Gabriel Obertan, Michael Owen, Tomasz Kuszczak have stayed behind.
For those whose nations have already qualified, this is a time to impress and help cement a place in the squad for the World Cup place, while more pressingly, it's an anxious few days for those who still have not ensured a ticket to South Africa.
Portugal are right up against it going into two final games at home against Hungary and Malta. They're in third place in their group, two points behind Sweden and five adrift of leaders Denmark. Qualifying for the play-offs seems like their only realistic hope, and Nani will hope to help fire Carlos Queiroz's side to South Africa.
With two matches to play in Group Seven, Patrice Evra and France look set to miss out on top spot as they trail the leaders, Nemanja Vidic and Zoran Tosic's Serbia, by four points. Les bleus face minnows the Faroe Islands on Saturday and Austria - four points behind them in third place - on Wednesday.
Serbia play Romania on Saturday and Lithuania on Wednesday in their final two qualifiers.
John O'Shea and Darron Gibson are both in the Republic of Ireland squad for their crunch matches with Italy this weekend and Montenegro next week. Four points behind the Italians, Giovanni Trapattoni is boldly trying to topple his home nation from the top spot.
A 2-0 defeat in the same group last time out for Dimitar Berbatov and Bulgaria means they need two wins from games with Cyprus and Georgia, whilst hoping the Irish seriously stumble.
In South America, Antonio Valencia was influential and scored in Ecuador's 3-1 win over Bolivia last time out, which moved them into fourth and final qualifying spot ahead of matches against Uruguay and third-placed Chile. With Argentina just a point behind and several others on Diego Maradon's coat-tails, it's do or die for Valencia and co.
Anderson misses out for Brazil against Bolivia and Venezuela. Despite already having qualified, coach Dunga has stuck largely with the squad that sent them to the top of the South American qualifying table.
Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Wes Brown are aiming to maintain the 100 per cent set by Fabio Capello's England side when they face Ukraine and Belarus. England have already qualified for South Africa.
Jonny Evans will be in action for Northern Ireland's final match against Czech Republic on Wednesday. Although qualification is mathematically possible, they're counting on miraculous results elsewhere.
For Ji-sung Park, Korea Republic have already booked their place in South Africa, but he's likely to play in this weekend's friendly against Senegal. And finally, Darren Fletcher won't be joining Ji-sung in that part of the world as he pulled out of Scotland's friendly with Japan on Saturday through injury. The Scots, of course, have already failed to qualify.

International bright young things

As large numbers of the senior squad head off on World Cup qualifying duty for the last time this cycle, there’s the usual slew of callups for the youngsters at United, including a surprising first Northern Ireland callup for English-born Joe Dudgeon
England U21
Who: Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley
When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier vs Macedonia home (9/10/09, Coventry)
More Info: Cleverley has continued to impress and will be pushing for a starting place and third cap, but tough competition for places may mean Welbeck (looking for a 4th cap) has to make do with a place on the bench.
Northern Ireland U21
Who: Craig Cathcart, Joe Dudgeon and Corry Evans
When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier vs Iceland away (13/10/09, Reyjkavik)
More Info: Cathcart and Evans have 12 and 6 caps respectively. The surprise is the call-up of Leeds-born Dudgeon, who seems to have followed Ollie Norwood’s lead and pledged his allegiance to Northern Ireland. Norwood himself misses out as FIFA still haven’t given clearance for him to play for NI competitively (required because he represented England competitively at U17 level).
Scotland U21
Who: David Gray
When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier vs Belarus home (10/10/09, St Mirren)
More Info: Gray looking for his second cap, the first coming nearly 11 months ago.
Italy U21
Who: Federico Macheda
When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier vs Bosnia and Herzegovina home (13/10/09, Mantova)
More Info: Macheda still included despite Casiraghi’s criticism last month, although faces competition from Balotelli and Paloschi for a striking place.
Serbia U21
Who: Adem Ljajić
When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier vs Cyprus home (9/10/09, Vojvodina), Croatia away (13/10/09, Varazdin)
England U19
Who: Reece Brown, Cameron Stewart
When/Where: UEFA Euro U19 First Qualifying Round vs Slovenia, Finland and Slovakia (9-14/10/09, Slovenia)
More Info: Both players were capped for the first time at this level last month. Matt James, who captained the side on that occasion, isn’t present due to his exertions with the U20s at the World Cup.
Northern Ireland U19
Who: Conor Devlin
When/Where: UEFA Euro U19 First Qualifying Round vs Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria and Iceland (7-12/10/09, Bosnia)
More Info: Ollie Norwood was originally included but had to withdraw for the same reason as stated above for the U21s. Also in the squad is Chris Curran, released by United in the symmer and recently signed by Forest Green Rovers.
England U17
Who: Sam Johnstone, Will Keane, Ravel Morrison, Tom Thorpe
When/Where: UEFA Euro U17 First Qualifying Round vs Azerbaijan, Serbia, Kazakhstan (26-31/10/09, Baku, Azerbaijan)
More Info: The games don’t take place this international break, but we’ll include it in here anyway. These four were a big part of last year’s U16 squad for the Victory Shield and have all moved up to the next level.
England U16
Who: Tyler Blackett, Luke Hendrie
When/Where: Victory Shield opener vs Wales home (15/10/09, Yeovil)
More Info: Key parts of United’s U16 side, Kenny Swain has handed defender Blackett and midfielder Hendrie their first U16 callups for the first of three matches against the other home nations in the 2009 Victory Shield.

Vidic joins World Cup party
http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2009/10/11/0555256p.jpg
Nemanja Vidic and Zoran Tosic's Serbia are the latest 'United Nation' to qualify automatically for South Africa 2010 - at the expense of Patrice Evra's France.
As Group 7 leaders in Europe, the Serbs confirmed their likely passage to the World Cup finals in emphatic style on Saturday, hammering Romania 5-0. Vidic played for 73 minutes while Tosic was an unused substitute.
The French also won 5-0, against the Faroe Islands, to confirm their runners-up spot. Evra completed the 90 minutes and can now plan for the play-offs in November.
Nani is another United player pinning his World Cup hopes on the play-offs, after Portugal's group was won by Denmark at the weekend. The Portuguese beat Hungary 3-0 in Lisbon - despite Cristiano Ronaldo limping off after 15 minutes - and will definitely enter November's knock-out phase if they overcome Malta on Wednesday.
The play-offs beckon for John O'Shea and the Republic of Ireland, following their impressive - but ultimately disappointing - 2-2 draw with the reigning world champions in Dublin. The Irish twice led in the match and when Sean St Ledger put them 2-1 up in the 87th minute, they seemed all set to cut Italy's lead in Group 8 to one point with one game remaining. However, Alberto Gilardino's last-gasp leveller ensured the Azzurri's automatic berth and a play-off place for O'Shea, Darron Gibson and their compatriots.
Bulgaria's chances of overtaking the Irish were wiped out in Cyprus, despite Dimitar Berbatov finding the net. His strike on the brink of half-time turned out to be a mere consolation goal in a demoralising 4-1 defeat.
Antonio Valencia was the other United man to score at the weekend but like Berba, he was on the losing side too. Ecuador are now in danger of missing the World Cup after losing 2-1 at home to Uruguay, courtesy of Diego Forlan's injury-time penalty.
Michael Carrick, Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney also suffered a defeat, losing 0-1 with the already-qualified England in Ukraine. Their cause wasn't helped by West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green being sent off in the 13th minute.

Foster drafted into England squad
news.bbc.co.uk
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/46530000/jpg/_46530184_foster226x170getty.jpg
England have called up Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster for Wednesday's final World Cup qualifying match against Belarus at Wembley.
The 26-year-old has been added to the squad because Robert Green is suspended following his sending-off in Saturday's 1-0 defeat away against the Ukraine.
Foster was omitted from the initial squad because of bruising to his ribs but has now been passed fit.
England had already secured qualification prior to Saturday's loss.
They had won their previous eight matches and were targeting a 100% record in Group Six.
But Sergiy Nazarenko's deflected shot after 29 minutes gave Ukraine victory in Dnipro after Green had seen red for fouling Artem Milevskiy on 13 minutes.
Foster has started all eight of United's Premier League matches this season in the absence of injured first-choice Edwin van der Sar but has come under scrutiny for some of his performances.
He was at fault for Gareth Barry's goal in the 4-3 derby victory over Manchester City and allowed Kenwyne Jones to beat him to a high ball and score as Sunderland drew 2-2 at Old Trafford in United's last league outing.
Dutchman Van der Sar, who set a British top-flight record by going 1,311 minutes without conceding last season, is likely to return to the United starting line-up against on 17 October.
Foster, meanwhile, is unlikely to add to his two caps on Wednesday, with David James set to start in goal.
The Portsmouth player came on against Ukraine following Green's dismissal, with Aaron Lennon making way.

Green Dihukum, Foster Dipanggil Capello
Foster awalnya gagal masuk the Three Lions karena diberitakan cedera tulang rusuk saat melawan Sunderland pekan lalu.
================================================== ===============
Nggak enak banget kata-katanya. tapi ini seperti dugaanku klo cederanya Foster sebagai alasan nggak kepanggil timnas adalah hanya dibuat-buat benar adanya. Kasihan banget... kepanggil hanya karena pemaen laen cedera padahal sebelumnya tak diharapkan Capello. Tapi ya... seperti kata-kata broo Roby, "tunjukkan merahmu!". moga bisa ngasih kesan baek ke Capello.

Rio Ferdinand will start England's final World Cup qualifier on Wednesday, following a message of support from national coach Fabio Capello.
Many pundits found fault with the United defender when goalkeeper Robert Green was sent off in Saturday’s shock 1-0 defeat to Ukraine. However, Capello will ignore the critics and retain Rio in his back four to face Belarus at Wembley.
“Rio will play," Capello confirmed.
"I have big confidence in Rio. I'm sure he will get better with every game. I spoke with Rio and I will speak also with some other players. We will watch the DVD of the Ukraine game to understand what happened and I will see the mistakes."
Wes Brown, Ben Foster and Michael Carrick are Rio’s fellow Reds in a squad depleted by Wayne Rooney’s withdrawal. “Rooney is a very important player for us. For this reason we will play a different style against Belarus, with some different players,” said Capello, whose team have already qualified for South Africa 2010.
Other United players in action on Wednesday night include Nani and Antonio Valencia, both of whom are still chasing a place in the World Cup finals.
Nani’s Portugal are expected to reach the European play-offs, having manoeuvred into second place in their qualifying group with only Malta left to play at home.
Valencia’s Ecuador have slipped down the solitary South American group, from which the top four qualify automatically. Fifth place and a play-off against a team from North, Central America and Caribbean now seems the most realistic route – to get that, the Ecuadorians will need to win in Chile while Uruguay fail to beat Argentina in Montevideo.

Berbatov bags a hat-trick

Dimitar Berbatov maintained his marvellous scoring run on Wednesday night when he banged in three goals for Bulgaria.
A scorer in three of his four previous games for club and country, the United striker notched his hat-trick in just 38 minutes as his national team trounced Georgia 6-2 in their concluding World Cup qualifier. Sadly the result was academic and Berbatov will not feature in next summer's finals in South Africa.
Nani could still make it, however, after he helped Portugal to cement their place in November's play-offs. The winger opened the scoring after 14 minutes against Malta, paving the way for a comfortable 4-0 win for Carlos Queiroz's side.
Rio Ferdinand and Ben Foster were victorious too, albeit in another 'dead rubber' with England. After recent criticism, both can take satisfaction from completing 90 minutes and keeping out the opposition - Fabio Capello's side beat Belarus 3-0 at Wembley with goals from Peter Crouch (2) and Shaun Wright-Phillips. Michael Carrick was an unused sub.
John O'Shea also helped his country to claim a clean sheet, after coming off the bench in the 40th minute. With a play-off place already ensured, there was little to get excited about in the Republic of Ireland's 0-0 draw at home to Montenegro.
Earlier in the day, soon-to-be United team-mates Ji-sung Park and Mame Biram Diouf were on opposite sides in Seoul. The latter, currently on loan to Molde in Norway, came on as substitute in the 58th minute but couldn't stop Senegal losing 2-0 to South Korea in a friendly. Park played the full game as captain, while both goals were set up by Bolton Wanderers winger Chung-Yong Lee - a warning to United, perhaps, for Saturday's match.

"If I get a chance to play on Saturday, I'll look forward to playing against Chung-Yong Lee," said Park.
"He is showing great ability for Bolton as well as for the national team."

selain Berba ama Nani, Tosic juga scored nih ... :-bd
Bulgaria 6 - Georgia 2 (World Cup qualifier, October 14, 2009) The home side ran riot in the first 45 and scored all their goals in 38 minutes. Dimitar Berbatov claimed a hat-trick, Martin Petrov a brace and the other came from Stanislav Angelov. Dvalishvili and Kobiashvili (pen) scored for Georgia.
Lithuania 2 - Serbia 1 (World Cup qualifier, October 14, 2009) Serbia were beaten by penalties from Mindaugas Kalonas and Marius Stankevicius. Manchester United’s Zoran Tosic netted a screamer for the visitors, but it was not enough to prevent a second defeat in their pool.
Portugal 4 - Malta 0 (World Cup qualifier, October 14, 2009) Carlos Queiroz’s side saw off Malta and qualified for the play-offs. Nani got the ball rolling with a fine long range effort, Simao continued his recent good goal scoring run with the second on the stroke of half-time. Miguel Veloso added the third after the break and Edinho claimed the fourth in the 90th minute.

Several United players are on international duty over the coming days – but the stakes are highest for four in particular.
A place in next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa is up for grabs when John O'Shea and Darron Gibson's Republic of Ireland take on Patrice Evra and France in their two-legged play-off. Ireland welcome Les Bleus to Croke Park on Saturday, before visiting Paris on Wednesday.
Nani is involved in one of the three other European play-offs, which comprise the eight best second-placed teams from the nine qualifying groups.
The winger's Portugal team – managed by former United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz – face a tough tie against Bosnia-Herzegovina, with the first leg in Leiria on Saturday.
Three more Reds could be in opposition on Wednesday when South Korea take on Serbia in a friendly at Craven Cottage. Ji-sung Park is expected to be fit to lead his country after his recent knee problem, while Nemanja Vidic and Zoran Tosic could line up for the Serbs.
Before then both countries play friendlies against other nations – South Korea are in Denmark and Serbia travel to Jonny Evans' Northern Ireland on Saturday.
England are still without Rio Ferdinand through injury, but Ben Foster, Wes Brown, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney could all see some action in the friendly against Brazil in Qatar on Saturday.
Darren Fletcher has been passed fit to lead Scotland against Wales in Cardiff on Saturday, and Tomasz Kuszczak has been recalled to Poland's squad for the home outings against Romania and Canada.
Dimitar Berbatov's Bulgaria visit Malta on Wednesday, while Hungary and Qatar are the opposition for Ritchie de Laet and Belgium.
In a packed five days of international action, there are also several UEFA European U21 Championship qualifiers, with Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley (England), Federico Macheda (Italy) and Craig Cathcart (Northern Ireland) all hoping to be involved.

It was first blood to Patrice Evra and Nani in the World Cup qualifying play-offs on Saturday as France and Portugal both recorded victories in the first leg ties.
Evra's joy at Croke Park in Dublin was at John O'Shea's expense as Les Bleus now take a 1-0 advantage into Wednesday's second-leg clash in Paris.
Nicolas Anelka got the game's only goal, a deflected strike in the 72nd minute of a tight game.
O'Shea and Evra both played the full 90 minutes, while Darron Gibson was an unused substitute for the Irish.
Portugal, who were missing the injured Cristiano Ronaldo, were given a slender lead over Bosnia and Herzegovina thanks to Nani's creativity.
It was the United winger's pinpoint centre after 31 minutes that allowed defender Alves to head home at the far post to put Carlos Queiroz's men in the driving seat.
Elsewhere in the European qualifiers, Russia beat Slovenia 2-1 at home, while Greece drew with Ukraine 0-0.

Young Reds shine at European finals
All four of United’s representatives at the UEFA Under-17 Football Championship in Lichtenstein look set for semi-final berths.
With the final round of group-stage fixtures played on Monday 24 May, Paul Pogba looks likely to join William Keane, Sam Johnstone and Tom Thorpe (all England) in the last four.
England have already qualified for the semi-final stage after wins over Czech Republic and Greece. Victory tonight against Turkey would set up a clash with Pogba's France should results in Group A tonight follow current form.
France face bottom-of-Group-A Switzerland but, barring a rout, would still finish second if leaders Spain beat Portugal (or lose in a low-scoring affair). A France loss or a high-scoring Portugal win, however, would dump France out of the competition.
Goalkeeper Johnstone and striker Keane have started in both England's Group B games, with Thorpe making a 15-minute appearance off the bench in the tournament opener against Czech Republic.
Meanwhile, Pogba, one of the leading lights for United’s U-18 team this season, has already made his mark for France at the tournament, scoring the only goal of the game in Les Bleus' victory over Portugal.
“We are very happy with the victory, but this is only one step,” Pogba told UEFA.com after the game. “We still have one more game and we have to work to prepare for it, but we are very happy to win.”
Highly-rated Pogba, 17, officially signed last October after a protracted and bitter transfer from French club Le Havre. He told UEFA.com he is enjoying life at Old Trafford.
“It’s a real experience,” he said. “I didn't know the language, it's not the same style of game – it’s more physical.”
Of his contact with United’s first-team stars, he said: “Sometimes I can see them, speak to them, joke, play table tennis… I am very close to them. Gabriel Obertan, because he's French, Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand, I can speak with him. He says, ‘Good luck, just work hard’. And you have to if you want to be a good player.
“Sometimes they come and watch the games and try to help me. That's good, as they have a lot of experience. I listen to them and try to learn quickly.”
Next fixtures: Switzerland v France (24 May, 17:00 CEST), Turkey v England (24 May, 20:00 CEST)

Carrington will be quieter this week and next as United players fulfil their duties at several different levels of the international game.
The list of senior players away with their countries includes just two in the England squad. With captain Rio Ferdinand injured and defender Wes Brown recently announcing his retirement from the international scene, the only Reds in Fabio Capello's 23-man party are Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick. The United pair will be hoping to help England get off to a positive start in their European Championships qualifying matches against Bulgaria at home and Switzerland away on Saturday 3 and Wednesday 9 September respectively.
United also have two representatives apiece in the Northern Ireland squad - Jonny Evans and brother Corry Evans could both face Slovenia this Saturday - and the Republic of Ireland squad, following John O'Shea and Darron Gibson's expected call-ups for the Armenia (away) and Andorra (home) games.
Darren Fletcher will captain Scotland against Lithuania (away) and Liechtenstein (home). Elsewhere in Europe, Nemanja Vidic's Serbia travel to the Faroe Islands before entertaining Slovenia while Nani and Portugal have a home clash with Cyprus before a trip to Norway next midweek.
Further afield, Javier Hernandez and Antonio Valencia could face each other when Mexico host Ecuador. Ji-sung Park will skipper South Korea in another friendly against Iran in Seoul.
The Reds also have a number of players away at Under-21 level. Tom Cleverley and Chris Smalling are both in the young England squad for games against Portugal (away) and Lithuania (home), Federico Macheda will be looking for goals as Italy face Bosnia and Wales and United's final signing of the summer, Bebe, is involved in Portugal's Under-21 squad. Reserve-team players Robbie Brady (Republic of Ireland) and Oliver Norwood (Northern Ireland) are also away.
Finally, at Under-19 level, goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, defender Zeki Fryers and striker Will Keane are on duty with England, defender Marnick Vermijl has been called up by Belgium and midfielder Etzaz Hussain is in Norway's squad.

Internationals: Evans ecstatic
Young United defender Corry Evans enjoyed a night to remember in Maribor, Slovenia as he scored the decisive goal in Northern Ireland's opening European Championship qualifier.
Evans' 70th-minute strike - his first senior goal for his country - arrived just three minutes after he came on as a substitute for Grant McCann. Unfortunately Corry's brother Jonny wasn't on the pitch to celebrate with him, having missed the match through injury.
Twenty year-old Corry said: "I haven't scored for Northern Ireland since I was a schoolboy so to get on the scoresheet in such an important match is fantastic."
His international manager Nigel Worthington commented: "I have no fears about Corry, I've worked with him for three years. He showed what he can do and not just with his goal."
Northern Ireland's 1-0 away win gets them off to a great start in tough-looking Group C, the only group to feature three sides from this summer's World Cup, in Slovenia, Italy and Nemanja Vidic's Serbia. The latter also enjoyed a winning start and top the table following their 3-0 away victory over the Faroe Islands. Vidic played the full 90 minutes.
The other United players enjoying victories with their countries were John O'Shea - he was on duty throughout the Republic of Ireland's 1-0 win in Armenia, where Darron Gibson was an unused sub - and Wayne Rooney, who shared the plaudits with hat-trick hero Jermain Defoe after being involved in all of England's goals against Bulgaria, including one for Manchester City winger Adam Johnson.
Tottenham striker Defoe said after the 4-0 win at Wembley: "When you play with a partner up front it takes time to gel but Wayne Rooney is a great player and if I make the runs I know he'll find me. When I'd scored my second goal, he said to me, 'Keep going and you'll get the hat-trick'. When I did it, he was the first one to come over and congratulate me."
England coach Fabio Capello claimed a different role for the United forward paid dividends.
"I played Rooney in a position different than usual," said the Italian. "He had to stay just in front of the two central midfielders and from this position to go forward and to be free. He did very well. His quality was really high."
Although all of United's senior players avoided defeat on Friday night, Darren Fletcher and Nani may be disappointed with the wildly contrasting draws they were involved in.
Fletcher skippered Scotland in their 0-0 stalemate in Lithuania, while Nani played the full, pulsating match in Guimaraes as Portugal were surprisingly held 4-4 by underdogs Cyprus. New Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles was among the Portuguese scorers.
Nani's fellow countryman and new United team-mate Bebe got a full game under his belt for Portugal's Under-21s but couldn't prevent them from losing 1-0 at home to England, for whom Danny Welbeck played 84 minutes. The winning goal for the visitors was notched by Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge and created by Reds midfielder Tom Cleverley.

A host of Reds will again be in action for their countries this week after a round of international matches over the weekend.
Following England's 4-0 victory over Bulgaria, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick have travelled to Switzerland ahead of Tuesday's qualifier in Basel.

Darren Fletcher will win his 50th international cap at Hampden Park when he leads Scotland against Liechtenstein, while Ji-sung Park will skipper South Korea in the friendly against Iran.
Elsewhere, Nemanja Vidic will be in action for Serbia at home to Slovenia, while Nani has travelled to Oslo for Portugal's qualifier against Norway.
Javier Hernandez and Antonio Valencia - who faced each other on Saturday in Guadalajara - are both expected to feature in the friendlies for Mexico (against Columbia) and Ecuador (against Venezuela) respectively.
A number of United's budding youngsters are also involved in midweek internationals - Bebe is in Portugal's squad for the European U21 Championship qualifier against Macedonia, Federico Macheda could feature in Italy's clash with Wales and Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck and Chris Smalling are in England's squad for the qualifier at home to Lithuania.
Reserve-team players Robbie Brady (Republic of Ireland), Oliver Norwood and Conor Devlin (Northern Ireland) are also away on U21 duty.

Internationals: Wayne's a winner
http://picsrv.manutd.com/?fif=/manu/img_10_36392_7517.jpg&obj=iip,1.0&wid=480&hei=179&rgn=0,0.06782334384858043,1,0.2823343848580442&cvt=jpeg
United's international players experienced mixed fortunes on Tuesday night, from Wayne Rooney's goalscoring performance with England to another slip-up for Nani and Portugal.
Rooney took just 10 minutes to breach the Switzerland defence in Basel, converting a cross from Glen Johnson to claim his first competitive goal at international level for 12 months. England substitute Adam Johnson made it 2-0 in the 69th minute - shortly after the hosts had Stephan Lichtsteiner sent off for a second bookable offence - and although Xherdan Shaqiri pulled a goal back, the Three Lions eventually wrapped up a deserved 3-1 victory when another sub Darren Bent struck two minutes from time.
The result means England have maximum points so far in the European Championship qualifiers, as have the Republic of Ireland. John O'Shea played 90 minutes and Darron Gibson came off the bench for the final half-hour as the Irish beat Andorra 3-1 in Dublin.
Darren Fletcher's Scotland were also victorious on Tuesday night but only just, with the winner from Stephen McManus clocked at seven minutes into injury time. The Celtic defender's strike capped a face-saving turnaround - the unfancied Liechtenstein had taken a shock lead through Mario Frick in the 47th minute and were in front for quarter of an hour until Rangers forward Kenny Miller equalised. Fletcher skippered the Scots from first to final whistle as he earned his 50th cap.
It wasn't Nani's night in Norway, where Portugal surprisingly lost 1-0. Erik Huseklepp's first-half goal heaped misery on the visitors, who were held 4-4 at home by Cyprus at the weekend.
Serbia fared slightly better in a contest that kept the referee busy - Nemanja Vidic was one of ten players booked by Portuguese official Olegário Benquerença. The visitors from Slovenia struck first in terms of goals but Nikola Zigic's late equaliser for the Serbians secured a final score of 1-1.

United players will be clocking up the air miles between now and next midweek as they represent their countries in the latest round of international matches.
After a perfect start to their Euro 2012 campaign, England square up to Montenegro on Tuesday with both Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney expected to start at Wembley.
John O’Shea and Darren Gibson will hope to preserve the Republic of Ireland’s 100 per cent winning record at home to Russia on Friday, before facing Slovakia away on Tuesday.
Northern Ireland are also involved in a qualification double header, with United siblings Jonny and Corry Evans looking to pick up six points from games against Italy and the Faroe Islands.
Darren Fletcher will take his Scotland team to Prague on Friday night in search of a vital win against the Czech Republic. The Scots will then host current European and World champions Spain at Hampden Park in midweek.
Elsewhere, Nani will be in action for troubled Portugal with two must-win games against Denmark and Iceland, while Nemanja Vidic will feature for Serbia as they face Estonia and Group C leaders Italy.
Friendlies outside of Europe will give Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez a chance to build on his impressive international record for Mexico as they face Venezuela, while South Korea captain Ji-sung Park will lead his team out against Japan in Seoul.
Several of United’s talented youngsters are also on international duty, as the Under-21 European Championship qualification play-offs get under way.
England boss Stuart Pearce has called up Reds trio Chris Smalling, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck to face Romania at Carrow Road on Tuesday, while Federico Macheda hopes to play for Italy in their clash with Belarus.
Meanwhile, at Under-19 level, United Reserves winger Robbie Brady is joined by Academy defender Sean McGinty in the Republic of Ireland squad, young midfielder Etzaz Hussain is on duty with Norway and full-back Marnick Vermijl is away with Belgium.

Nani's two good

Nani outshone Cristiano Ronaldo on Friday night, scoring twice in Portugal's 3-1 home win against Denmark in the 2012 European Championship qualifiers. Ronaldo, who set up Nani's first, also got on the scoresheet but it was Nani's goals – his second a superb effort from outside the box – that had everybody talking.
The win was Portugal's first in the qualifying stages, after drawing 4-4 with unfancied Cyprus and losing 1-0 to Norway in the earlier rounds.
Nani wasn't the only United player to find the net on Friday night. Reds defender Chris Smalling netted a late winner for England U21s on Friday night in the side's crucial European Championship first-leg play-off against Romania.
The England team, also boasting United starlets Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck, now take a 2-1 lead to Botosani on Tuesday. Smalling's goal, a close-range finish after Daniel Sturridge had headed a corner back across goal, was his first at international level.
In other U21 play-off action, Federico Macheda was an unused substitute as Italy beat Belarus 2-0.
Meanwhile, both Evans brothers were involved in European Championship qualifying as Northern Ireland held Italy to a 0-0 draw at Windsor Park. Jonny played the full 90 minutes, while younger brother Corry came on in the 80th minute. The draw leaves Nigel Worthington's men with four points after two games.
There was late drama at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin as the Republic of Ireland hosted Russia in Group B. The home side netted twice in quick succession but it still wasn't enough – Russia had opened up a 3-0 lead by 50 minutes. John O'Shea played the full 90 minutes at right back, while Darron Gibson's introduction on 66 minutes coincided with Ireland's late rally.
There was no joy for Darren Fletcher and Scotland in Prague, either. Boss Craig Levein was desperate not to lose and sent his Scotland side out in a 4-6-0 formation. His men stood firm until half-time but Roman Hubnik headed the only goal of the game on 69 minutes to leave Scotland in second place, behind world champions Spain, in Group I.
In Belgrade, Nemanja Vidic was booked in Serbia's shock 3-1 defeat at home to Estonia.
On Thursday night, Reds youngsters Robbie Brady and Sean McGinty both scored in the Republic of Ireland U19s' 5-0 win against Luxembourg.

The Carrington training complex was eerily quiet this week as players made a mass exodus to link up with their national teams all over Europe. Most are helping their countries in the efforts to qualify for Euro 2012, while others had to travel further afield. It’s a price that has to be paid when the squad contains so many internationals from all over the world. For the sake of anyone wondering what destinations the various Manchester United lads have been heading for, here’s a complete list of their schedules.
www.trulyreds.com
England – Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand vs Montenegro (Home) Tuesday 12 October
Scotland – Darren Fletcher vs Czech Republic (Away) Friday 8 October vs Spain (Home) Tuesday 12 October
Republic of Ireland – John O’Shea, Darron Gibson vs Russia (Home) Friday 8 October, vs Slovakia (Away) Tuesday 12 October
Northern Ireland – Jonny Evans, Corry Evans vs Italy (Home) Friday 8 October, vs Faroe Islands (Away) Tuesday 12 October
Serbia – Nemanja Vidic vs Estonia (Home) Friday 8 October, vs Italy (Away) Tuesday 12 October
Portugal – Nani vs Denmark (Home) Friday 8 October, vs Iceland (Away) Tuesday 12 October
South Korea – Ji-sung Park vs Japan (Home) Tuesday 12 October
Mexico – Javier Hernandez vs Venezuela (Home) Tuesday 12 October
England Under 21 – Chris Smalling, Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck vs Rumania (Home) Tuesday 12 October
Italy Under 21 – Federico Macheda vs Belarus (Home) Tuesday 12 October
That’s a hell of a lot of players on international duty but if you think that they’re faced with all those air miles, spare a thought for Mark Schwarzer (Fulham), Tim Cahill (Everton), David Carney (Blackpool), Richard Garcia (Hull City) and Scott McDonald (Middlesbrough) who have all flown to Australia for a FRIENDLY game against Paraguay in Sydney on Saturday! They will then be faced with a return trip to England for club commitments next weekend. Now that’s what can be called long haul flying.

Mixed results for Reds
On a frustrating day for United's international contingent, only one Red sampled victory in the Euro 2012 qualifiers - although three England youngsters had plenty of reasons to celebrate a goalless draw...
Darren Fletcher’s Scotland came within 10 minutes of an unforgettable result against Spain. Craig Levein’s side had roared back from two goals down to level at 2-2 midway through the second half, only for Fernando Llorente to volley home a late winner.
Rio Ferdinand captained England against Montenegro for the first time since officially taking the role, but he, Wayne Rooney and the rest of Fabio Capello’s side were frustrated in a tepid goalless draw at Wembley. Rooney had two openings, but was twice denied by visiting goalkeeper Mladen Bozovic.
The Republic of Ireland withstood a late onslaught to draw 1-1 in Slovakia. John O’Shea completed the entire match and Darron Gibson was a 41st minute substitute for Giovanni Trapattoni’s side, who might have taken all three points had Robbie Keane’s penalty not been saved.
Northern Ireland followed their creditable draw against Italy with a 1-1 draw with the Faroe Islands. Jonny Evans completed 90 minutes, while Corry Evans was a late substitute in a frustrating match for Nigel Worthington’s side.
Nani couldn’t repeat his goalscoring heroics of Friday’s win over Denmark, but he looked lively and completed 87 minutes as Portugal notched a 3-1 win in Iceland to breathe new life into their qualifying campaign.
Disturbances among the travelling Serbian supporters meant that Italy’s clash with Nemanja Vidic and his colleagues was abandoned. The Naples match lasted just eight minutes before it was halted.
Ji-sung Park missed South Korea’s goalless draw with Japan due to a minor knee injury. :hammer::(
Chris Smalling, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck all started for England under-21s as Stuart Pearce’s side notched a goalless draw in Romania. That assured a 2-1 aggregate victory and takes the Three Lions through to next summer’s European Championships.

Internationals: Nani eyes revenge
http://picsrv.manutd.com/?fif=/manu/img_10_37440_2962.jpg&obj=iip,1.0&wid=480&hei=179&rgn=0.08348794063079777,0.060945273631840796,0.890 5380333951762,0.22263681592039802&cvt=jpeg
Last week it was the Manchester derby… this week, some of United’s players will experience geographical rivalries on the international stage.
Nani is set to face Spain in an all-Iberian friendly as Portugal get an opportunity to avenge their World Cup exit at the hands of the eventual champions.
Meanwhile at Wembley, England are taking on France, who should be far from travel-weary after a short flight across the Channel. Chris Smalling will be hoping to feature at some point alongside Rio Ferdinand while a former United centre-half looks on from the French bench – Les Blues’ recently-appointed boss is Laurent Blanc.
“England will be very motivated...” said Blanc, before getting in a not-so-subtle dig … “especially since our comprehensive 2-0 win in 1999."
The Three Lions’ last victory over France dates back two years earlier, to 1997, when a certain Paul Scholes – then 22 – scored the winner.
Journey time back to Manchester shouldn’t be an issue for Darron Gibson and John O’Shea, with the Republic of Ireland hosting Norway in a friendly, or for Jonny Evans as Northern Ireland face Morocco at home. Darren Fletcher will return to Carrington from Sir Alex Ferguson's former fortress of Pittodrie, Aberdeen - venue for Scotland's friendly with the Faroe Islands.
United’s scorers at Aston Villa are away with their countries - Nemanja Vidic is no doubt relieved that Reds team-mate Dimitar Berbatov has retired from international football as Serbia visit Bulgaria, while Kiko Macheda is in Italy’s Under-21 squad for a friendly against Turkey, the first game under new coach Ciro Ferrara.
Macheda said: “This is a positive moment for me. I am playing well with Manchester United and I would like to also show my qualities with Italy’s Under-21s. I am one of the veterans at this level. I will help the new players feel at ease, I already know many of them and we have to do everything we can to become a tight-knit team.”
Gabriel Obertan completes the line-up of travelling first-teamers – the United winger is with France’s Under-21s. Also called up at that level is reserve-team midfielder Magnus Eikrem (Norway) while Ravel Morrison and Tom Thorpe are in the England Under-18 squad. Finally, Michele Fornasier – a recent scorer for United Reserves – is involved with Italy’s Under-17s.

Italy U21 1-0 England U21
Macheda winner for Italy
Soccernet - February 8, 2011
Manchester United striker Federico Macheda scored a late penalty as England Under-21s were defeated in their friendly clash with Italy in Empoli.
Shortly after substitute Scott Sinclair had squandered a great chance, Ben Mee brought down Niccolo Giannetti to concede a spot-kick with two minutes remaining. Macheda, who is currently on loan at Sampdoria, made no mistake to deal England a blow in their preparations for this summer's European Under-21 Championship in Denmark.
Manager Stuart Pearce, who saw his squad severely weakened by withdrawals, handed a debut to Middlesbrough defender Joe Bennett while 17-year-old Chelsea midfielder Josh McEachran made his first start. Everton striker James Vaughan, meanwhile, made his first appearance for nearly 18 months after impressing on loan for Crystal Palace.
Italy, who failed to qualify for the European Championships, fielded a team made up largely of teenagers.
A quiet start to the match took a worrying turn for England and particularly Everton after little over 10 minutes when Jack Rodwell appeared to suffer a groin problem and was replaced by Jack Cork.
The only clear-cut chance of the first half fell to Ciro Ferrara's Italy as Gianvito Misuraca found space behind the England defence but Frank Fielding got down well to push his shot around the post.
The visitors managed only brief glimpses of goal, with Vaughan, Marc Albrighton and Henri Lansbury all shooting off target.
The start of the second half saw both Albrighton and Vaughan misplace passes with England in promising positions while Macheda shot into the side-netting.
With an hour gone, Pearce, who celebrated his fourth anniversary as manager on Sunday, made a triple substitution, giving debuts to Jonny Howson, Jay Rodriguez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in place of Vaughan, Lansbury and Nathan Delfouneso.
Highly-rated Southampton youngster Oxlade-Chamberlain made an immediate impact with a run and fizzing cross along the six-yard line but none of his team-mates could get on the end of it.
Sinclair came on for Albrighton with quarter of an hour remaining, and the Swansea winger should have put England ahead with nine minutes left. An excellent through-ball from McEachran found the former Chelsea youngster in acres of space but he shot straight at goalkeeper Carlo Pinsoglio, who then produced another good save from the same player at his near post.
Having stepped up the pace, though, England conceded the only goal of the game in the 88th minute.
Substitute Giannetti ran in behind Manchester City defender Mee, who clearly brought down the striker and was promptly shown a red card, with Macheda easily beating Fielding from the penalty spot.
Pearce hails Chelsea's McEachran
England Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce believes that in Josh McEachran England have a talent to rival that of Jack Wilshere.
Pearce said: "Chelsea think extremely highly of him and you can see why. He's got the ability and the vision that you know, if players run off of him, he's got the ability to find them with passes.
"All of our cutting passes probably came from him. (Henri) Lansbury has got the benefit of that insight to play those passes but I think, in Josh, he's got a really outstanding talent, similar to Wilshere, and it bodes well for us.''
Pearce hinted McEachran may well have played himself into the Under-21s for the foreseeable future, adding: "He's come in and played outstandingly well, so if I feel as though, if he is going to start for me, then he will be in the Under-21 squad from now on.
"If I feel as though he is going to come in and be a squad player, then there's no need and he will stay with the Under-19s and play football. If he carries on playing like that then it won't be long before he's permanently in the Under-21s side.
"We talk about the lack of talent in England at times, but when you look at the talent of McEachran and Wilshere then I apply one of Sir Trevor (Brooking's) famous old sayings: 'If they were wearing Spanish shirts, you would revere them'.
"They are two outstanding players who can see a pass and see the whole picture better than I can as a coach.''
Pearce's squad was heavily depleted by withdrawals but he praised the players who did turn out and is content with the talent available to him for this summer's European Under-21 Championship.
He said: "Given the amount of players we had pull away from the situation, and injured, I was a little bit disappointed. But once the game got started, and certainly at the end of the game, I was pleased with the contribution of quite a number of them.
"I have learned a lot from this game. We've got some good talent here and this is another part of the player pool that we have got that is fighting for a place at the Under-21 tournament in the summer. The more options and problems I have, the better it is for me and England.''

Ireland romp in nightmare start for Speed
Soccernet
The Republic of Ireland drew first blood in the inaugural Carling Nations Cup with a comfortable win over woeful Wales at the Aviva Stadium.
It was meant to be the beginning of a new era for Gary Speed but his first game in charge ended in almost typical Welsh disappointment on a dreary Dublin night.
After a nondescript opening half, Darron Gibson opened the scoring in the 60th minute with his first international goal before Damien Duff doubled the home side's lead six minutes later from close range.
As the Irish took a firmer grip, substitute Keith Fahey drove a 25-yard free-kick past Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey to compound Speed's misery, although long before that he would have known the task which confronts him.
Republic boss Giovanni Trapattoni handed Seamus Coleman and Ciaran Clark their first caps, while Speed included Reading's Hal Robson-Kanu in a three-man attack which failed to make much of an impact.
Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan had the tournament's first effort on goal after two minutes, but his delicate chip from the edge of the box cleared the bar.
Moments later Duff came closer with curling effort from the left which almost deceived Hennessey and appeared to clip the woodwork before going wide, but a decent start soon subsided and there was little in the way of Celtic passion.
Wales, conservative and constrained, grew in confidence as they slowly felt their way into the game, but there was still no clear-cut chance at either end.
In the 25th minute Robson-Kanu played a one-two with Andy King and then appealed for a penalty as he went down under pressure from John O'Shea as he tried to reach the return ball, but Northern Irish referee Mark Courtney was unimpressed.
On the half-hour mark Robert Earnshaw was fouled clumsily by Clark 25 yards from goal but the Wales striker drove the resultant free-kick over the bar.
Five minutes later Doyle threatened for the first time when he drove at the Wales box before unleashing a low drive from 20 yards, but Hennessey just stood his ground and gathered.
Moments later Coleman took a free-kick from Gibson and lifted the ball into the box where Clark rose to head inches past the post from 12 yards.
Seconds before the interval Wales striker Simon Church linked up well with Earnshaw and his left-footed drive from outside the box had Shay Given happy to gather at the second attempt.
Chris Gunter came on for Neal Eardley for the start of the second half and Reading striker Shane Long replaced Doyle.
The second half was only four minutes old when Jonathan Walters fired in a drive from the edge of the box but again Hennessey was perfectly placed to gather.
Moments later Long had the chance to make a quick impact when he was set up by Duff 16 yards out, but blazed the ball over the bar.
The game was then held up when two spectators ran onto the park, but once they had been removed by the stewards Ireland regained the ascendancy and in the 56th minute Hennessey made a good block from Duff's close-range shot, although the Fulham player looked to have lost his balance as he shot from 12 yards.
The deadlock was eventually broken on the hour mark and in some style when Gibson picked up a pass from Whelan before rifling an unstoppable shot from 20 yards high past Hennessey, who this time had no chance.
Duff made it 2-0 in the 66th minute after Gunter had carelessly been robbed by Walters on the byline.
The cutback was missed by Long and landed at the feet of former Chelsea and Newcastle player Duff and he buried it from 10 yards out.
The game appeared over as a contest but it became increasingly disjointed as both sides rang the changes.
In the 82nd minute, after Walters had been fouled by Collins 25 yards from goal, Fahey - on earlier for Coleman - drove the free-kick past the helpless Hennessey to confirm a good night's work.
However, on this evidence Speed has his work cut out to get this Wales side knocked into shape.
Trapattoni confident ahead of qualifying
After the match, Giovanni Trapattoni urged the Republic of Ireland to look forward to the resumption of Euro 2012 qualifying with confidence
Ireland turn their attention to the visit of Macedonia next month as they look to build on their solid start in Group B of Euro 2012 qualifying.
Trapattoni said: "Macedonia play different football but we have to believe we have the potential. Our team is a good team and we can play good football. It is just a pity some of our players only play a few times for their club because I am sure if our players played more we would be even stronger."
Ireland were without the likes of Robbie Keane, Aiden McGeady and Kevin Kilbane but, in Duff, had one senior player in outstanding form.
The Fulham winger provided the hosts' attacking inspiration until being substituted shortly after a 66th-minute goal his performance deserved.
Trapattoni said: "I saw his last game for his club and he was fantastic. God forbid any more injuries to him. He gives the team personality, this is important. Players like him are very important at international level and we can win with players like him. We need one or two more players like him."
Two other players to impress Trapattoni were debutants Seamus Coleman and Ciaran Clark, of Everton and Aston Villa respectively.
"It was important to see them in this competition," said Trapattoni. "With the performance of these two players I am very happy."
Wales capitulated in the second half and defensively struggled to contain the movement of the Irish.
Speed, who has succeeded the long-serving John Toshack, tried to put a brave face on a result and performance that should leave him in no doubt as to the size of his task.
Speed said: "I'm obviously disappointed with the result. No-one wants to lose like that, especially in your first game. But there are things we can take positives from and other things we can learn from and make sure it is right next time.
"In the first half we didn't pass the ball as well as we can do but defended really well. In the second half we started out quite brightly but they scored a great goal and once that went in our heads dropped. That's something that's been synonymous with the last few years.
"The second and third goals were poor ones to concede. You can't concede goals like that at international because you are going to get punished. In a funny way I'm glad it's happened because we can emphasise that to the players and make sure it doesn't happen again."
Speed was without a number of senior players but must now rally his players for next month's clash against England.
Wales have little hope of qualifying for Euro 2012 after losing their opening three games but the game in Cardiff should still be a fiery one.
Speed added: "The attitude has been great so we have got to take that into the next game and hopefully improve on and off the pitch."

Lindegaard set for Rooney test
Anders Lindegaard could take his training-ground rivalry with Wayne Rooney onto the international stage on Wednesday night.
The new United goalkeeper is likely to play for Denmark against England, after keeping clean sheets in his last three starts for the national team - against Czech Republic (0-0), Cyprus (2-0) and Iceland (1-0).
In the last game he didn't start for the Danes, Lindegaard came on for injured Stoke shot-stopper Thomas Sorensen in the first half and kept Portugal at bay for nearly an hour. Denmark were trailing to a Nani double when Anders entered the game, and he was only beaten once, by Cristiano Ronaldo five minutes from the end as Portugal won 3-1.
Now Lindegaard will aim to frustrate Ronaldo's former sidekick Wayne Rooney, the solitary Red in England's squad for the Copenhagen friendly. Meanwhile, only one other home nation will field any United players on Wednesday night - Northern Ireland.
Corry Evans, currently on loan at Hull, has been joined in Nigel Worthington's squad to face Scotland by Reds midfielder Oliver Norwood, a late call-up after three senior players sustained injuries. Corry's brother Jonny subsequently joined the list of absentees on Tuesday afternoon.
Darren Fletcher misses the chance to play against his United colleagues in the Four Nations Cup clash after withdrawing from Scotland's party. Assistant manager Peter Houston said, "Darren never misses games so we know he must be injured."
John O'Shea and Darron Gibson could be involved in the opening Nations Cup fixture, as the Republic of Ireland take on Wales at Dublin's Aviva Stadium tonight (Tuesday).
Rafael will hoping to win his first senior cap after being named in Brazil's squad of European-based players. Mario Menezes' men meet France at the Stade de France where Patrice Evra will be a notable absentee. The United left-back is available again after serving a five-match international ban but has been overlooked by coach Laurent Blanc.
Nani is poised to pit his wits against South American opposition - he's in Portugal's party for their friendly with Argentina in Geneva, Switzerland. Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta could be on the opposite side but there's no place in Sergio Batista's plans for Carlos Tevez, who will consequently take a midweek break before Saturday's derby at Old Trafford.
Javier Hernandez is the only Red due to play outside of Europe this week. Mexico are taking on Bosnia-Herzegovina at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Thursday night, the first of three US-tour friendlies for Chicharito's national team.

Chicharito on target
Two United strikers returned to winning ways in midweek as Mexico and England both won friendlies overseas.
Javier Hernandez was on the scoresheet for his country but only just. There was some conjecture as to whether Chicharito's 12th international strike, netted on the rebound after his penalty was saved, was in fact an own goal by Bosnia-Herzegovina defender Miralem Pjanic.
"I didn't know if it was my goal or if it was an own goal," said Hernandez. "I celebrated with my team-mates and laughed because of the circumstances that arose. Scoring is always beautiful but it's better to win."
Mexico eventually won 2-0 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, US, in the first match under new head coach Jose Manuel De Torre.
"It's difficult with just two training sessions but we started off well with this manager," added Chicharito. "We are happy and content with the victory."
Wayne Rooney helped England to beat Denmark 2-1 in Copenhagen, although he was rested at half-time to make way for the eventual match-winner Ashley Young. Another Aston Villa player, Darren Bent, equalised for England shortly after Liverpool centre-back Daniel Agger gave the Danes a seventh-minute lead. United keeper Anders Lindegaard was an unused sub for the hosts with Stoke's Thomas Sorensen given the nod in goal.
Nani played for 61 minutes in arguably the most attractive of the midweek internationals, Argentina versus Portugal in Geneva, Switzerland. Former United star Cristiano Ronaldo scored a first-half equaliser but his great La Liga and Ballon D'Or rival Lionel Messi had the last laugh, scoring a 90th-minute penalty to win the friendly 2-1 for the South Americans.
United midfielder Oliver Norwood made his senior debut for Northern Ireland when he came on as a 58th-minute substitute for Rangers' Steven Davis. It was otherwise an unhappy night for Norwood, Corry Evans and co as Scotland comfortably beat them 3-0 despite the absence of Darren Fletcher.
Rafael missed out on a first cap for Brazil when he watched their 1-0 defeat to France from the bench.

Patrice Evra and Franck Ribéry recalled by France coach Laurent Blanc
• Two players have not been involved since 2010 World Cup
• France set to play Luxembourg in Euro 2012 qualifier
Patrice Evra and Franck Ribéry have been included in a France squad for the first time since the 2010 World Cup. The Manchester United left-back and Bayern Munich playmaker were identified as ringleaders in the player unrest which plagued Les Bleus' efforts in South Africa, and were subsequently banned for five and three games respectively by the French Football Federation.
Both men have sat out the last seven international fixtures – the first of which saw the team's new coach, Laurent Blanc, select an experimental side against Norway. But they will be in contention when France play Luxembourg in a Euro 2012 qualifying match on 25 March and a friendly against Croatia in Paris four days later.
"Everyone has an opinion, especially about the France team," Blanc said. "If you're not free to make these choices, you can't fulfil the role of this job."

Goalkeepers: C Carrasso (Bordeaux), H Lloris (Lyon), S Mandanda (Marseille). Defenders: P Evra (Manchester United), G Clichy (Arsenal), L Koscielny (Arsenal), P Mexès (Roma), A Rami (Lille), A Réveillère (Lyon), B Sagna (Arsenal), M Sakho (Paris Saint-Germain). International Reds
A number of United players are away on international duty this week as the Reds take a break from a three-pronged trophy challenge.
Sir Alex will be hoping all his players return unscathed to ensure the injury problems affecting the squad are not exacerbated.
Wayne Rooney is United's sole representative in Fabio Capello’s England squad for the Euro 2012 qualifier in Wales (26 March) and Wembley friendly against Ghana (29 March). However, Chris Smalling and on-loan duo Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck have been included in Stuart Pearce’s Under-21 party for Thursday’s trip to Denmark and the match at Preston against Iceland next Monday.
Welbeck, who spent time at Preston on loan last season, will be hoping for another Deepdale run-out but will need to first shake off the injury that led to his substitution against Liverpool on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Serbia have confirmed Nemanja Vidic (calf injury) will miss the Group C qualifiers with Northern Ireland and Estonia, although Jonny Evans and on-loan Corry Evans are both in Nigel Worthington’s plans for the tie in Belgrade. The game is set to be played in front of only 200travelling supporters due to a ban on home fans following crowd trouble that led to a recent qualifier in Italy being abandoned.
Patrice Evra has been recalled by former United defender Laurent Blanc for France’s games against Luxembourg and Croatia, while Nani will be a key figure for Portugal in their friendlies with Chile and Finland.
Further afield, Javier Hernandez is in Mexico’s squad for internationals against Paraguay and Venezuela with fit-again Antonio Valencia included for Ecuador’s friendlies with Colombia and Peru - although both of those fixtures will be played in Europe (Madrid and Amsterdam).
Darron Gibson is back with Republic of Ireland after scoring his first goal at international level against Wales last month, ahead of their matches with Macedonia and Uruguay in Dublin.
Mame Biram Diouf, who is on loan at Blackburn, is in Senegal’s squad for African Cup of Nations play-off against Cameroon.
There are Under-21 call-ups for Federico Macheda and Bebe with Italy facing Sweden and Germany and Portugal lining up against Republic of Ireland.
At a younger level, FA Youth Cup stars Ravel Morrison, Ryan Tunnicliffe and Tom Thorpe are in the England Under-19 squad with Sean McGinty and Robbie Brady representing Republic of Ireland in the same age group. Paul Pogba, fresh from another incredible strike at the weekend, is with France Under-20s and Marnick Vermijl is away with Belgium Under-19s.
Goalkeeper Joe Coll has been called up by Republic of Ireland’s Under-17s and Gyliano van Velzen is with Holland’s squad at the same level after being promoted from stand-by duty

United's Welsh Dragons
As Wales and England prepare to meet, we look at the United men who've played for the principality through the years...
Ryan Giggs' international retirement means that United's connections with Wales' senior side are, for now, consigned to the past.
The evergreen winger tops our list of Welsh Reds but before we look at the stellar quintet in more detail, there are plenty of their compatriots deserving of honourable mentions. Alan Davies won 13 Welsh caps, his first coming soon after he played in the 1983 FA Cup final, while namesakes Simon Davies and Ron Davies made one Wales appearance apiece during their United careers in the 1990s and 1970s respectively.
Brothers Jack and Roger Doughty were among Newton Heath’s Welsh internationals while pre-war United representatives included Harry Thomas, Tom Jones and Jack Warner. Cardiff-born striker Colin Webster played in the 1958 World Cup after appearing in the FA Cup final for United earlier that year, while Graham Moore won two caps whilst at Old Trafford in the 1960s.
Robbie Savage made all of his 39 international appearances after leaving United and it’s worth remembering Jimmy Murphy actually combined his assistant manager duties at Old Trafford with an eight-year stint in charge of Wales, including their only World Cup finals campaign in 1958.
With Giggs now concentrating on his domestic career, it’s left to 17-year-old Tom Lawrence to carry the torch with the Wales Under-21s.
Ryan Giggs (1991-2007 – 64 caps / 12 goals)
While the Reds legend is arguably the greatest-ever player from Wales, it’s fair to say his best moments have been at club level. However, he was his country's youngest ever player against Germany in 1991 and was absolutely outstanding in his second game against Belgium. It was nine years before he played in a friendly but his commitment to the cause was unquestioned when Wales almost reached the 1994 World Cup finals, only to lose to Romania after Paul Bodin's costly penalty miss. After his country again came close to qualifying for a major tournament in 2004, he retired from international duty in 2007 to help prolong his club career.
Mark Hughes (1984-1999 – 72/16)
Sparky’s warrior-like qualities helped him become a key figure for the Wales team, in which he formed a devastating partnership with Ian Rush. The winning goal on his debut against England in 1984 quickly endeared himself to the Welsh faithful and it was obvious he would be a stalwart for many years. One extraordinary scissor-kick against Spain always springs to mind when thinking of his international highlights, one of his 16 international goals. Hughes also coached Wales from 1999 to 2004 and revived their fortunes, only for Russia to end their Euro 2004 qualifying hopes in the play-offs.
Billy Meredith (1895-1920 – 48/11)
Star of probably the first great United side, the wiry winger made his international bow way back in 1895 against Ireland. Incredibly, ‘Old Skinny’ did not earn his final cap until 1920 as he turned out in a sweet victory against England at the ripe old age of 45 years and eight
Mickey Thomas (1976-1986 – 51/4)
The Colwyn Bay-born winger was a shrewd signing in 1978 from Wrexham – the club he ended his career with. A hard-working wide man who was able to supply inviting crosses, he did well under Dave Sexton but was sold to Everton in 1981. Although he won over half-a-century of caps for Wales, his most memorable moment came when scoring against England in the famous 4-1 victory in 1980. At the age of 37, he wrote himself into FA Cup folklore with a spectacular strike as Wrexham knocked out Arsenal.
Clayton Blackmore (1985-1998 – 39/1)
Known for his versatility and venomous shooting, he made 39 appearances for Wales between 1985 and 1997. An integral part of the side, his only goal came in the 6-0 win against Faroe Islands in a World Cup qualifier in 1992 when he smashed home an intelligent pass by Ryan Giggs. He became part of Mark Hughes’ coaching team in order to extend his association with his country after winning numerous trophies with United.

International Reds round-up
Wayne Rooney won his 70th cap for England as Fabio Capello's team eased to a 2-0 victory in Wales.
Early goals by Frank Lampard (penalty) and Darren Bent secured a comfortable success in Group G of the European Championship qualifiers and Wayne was withdrawn with 20 minutes remaining.
"I decided for a new position for Rooney," admitted Capello afterwards. "When we are defending, he and [Aston Villa winger] Ashley Young are staying wide but, when we had the ball, they caused Wales problems."
The Reds striker did pick up a first-half booking that rules him out of the Wembley fixture with Switzerland in June.
Elsewhere, Darron Gibson helped Republic of Ireland to a 2-1 success against Macedonia. Our midfielder's free-kick was spilled by Edin Nuredinovski to allow West Ham loanee Robbie Keane to score what turned out to be the eventual winner.
Mexico striker Javier Hernandez just cannot stop scoring at the moment as he struck twice in the first half of his country's 3-1 win over Paraguay. Chicharito dived to head home a Pablo Barrera cross and netted his second from close range to kill the match as a contest with only 35 minutes on the clock. He was afforded a rest with 25 minutes remaining.
Antonio Valencia was substituted towards the end of Ecuador's 2-0 defeat to Colombia in Madrid as he gets more minutes under his belt following his return from a long-term injury lay-off.
Nani was influential in Portugal's 1-1 draw with Chile in Leiria. The winger's corner led to Silvestre Valera opening the scoring and he played well in his 85 minutes on the pitch.
On Friday night, brothers Jonny and Corry Evans were in the Northern Ireland side unfortunately defeated 2-1 in Serbia with ex-United winger Zoran Tosic grabbing the winner.
Patrice Evra made his comeback to the France line-up in their 2-0 victory in Luxembourg.

Kiko and Welbeck on target
United's young guns caught the eye in the Under-21 fixtures on Thursday with Federico Macheda on the scoresheet for Italy.
The Reds striker, who is on loan at Sampdoria, grabbed the third goal in a 3-1 victory over Sweden in Reggio Emilia while captaining the side. The Arruzzini face Germany in their next fixture on Tuesday.
Danny Welbeck was also a scorer as England Under-21s demolished Denmark 4-0, blasting home an excellent left-footed drive in the first half. Three second-half goals confirmed Stuart Pearce's side's superiority with another United player, midfielder Tom Cleverley, setting one up for young Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge.
Reds defender Chris Smalling took over the skipper's armband when Manchester City's Micah Richards was taken off on a stretcher early on.
An impressed Pearce told TheFA.com, "There were some decent performances in there, including Danny Welbeck coming back from injury."

Meanwhile, Serbia have confirmed Nemanja Vidic (calf injury) will miss the Group C qualifiers with Northern Ireland and Estonia
Manchester United face anxious time hoping Nemanja Vidic stays injury-free playing for Serbia
Manchester United will hope Nemanja Vidic does not suffer a recurrence of his calf problem when he makes an early return from injury for Serbia on Tuesday evening.
Returning: Nemanja Vidic is preparing to come back from injury against Estonia
By Mark Ogden 10:30PM BST 28 Mar 2011
Mark's Twitter
The United captain is set to captain Serbia against Estonia in Tallinn on Tuesday, just two weeks after suffering the calf strain that had left manager Sir Alex Ferguson concerned about the defender’s prospects of facing West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday.
Vidic had initially been omitted from Vladimir Petrovic’s squad for the Euro 2012 qualifying double-header against Northern Ireland and Estonia. But the centre-half underwent intensive treatment at United’s Carrington training ground last week before flying to Belgrade in time to watch the 2-1 victory over Northern Ireland last Friday.
Vidic trained with his Serbian team-mates on Saturday before flying to snowbound Estonia on Sunday, where Petrovic declared the 29 year-old fit to play.
Petrovic said: “Vidic is with us again and he is ready to play from the beginning. My only concern is about the condition of the pitch because it is a winter’s landscape.”
Although United confirmed on Monday that Vidic had joined up with Serbia, it is unclear as to Ferguson’s thoughts on his captain representing his country so soon after suffering an injury which forced him to miss the Champions League victory against Marseille and 1-0 league win against Bolton.

Capello: Welbeck selection no trick
Soccernet - March 30, 2011
Fabio Capello has denied handing Danny Welbeck his England debut in Tuesday night's 1-1 friendly draw just to steer him away from Ghana's clutches.
Welbeck was only called into Capello's squad on the morning of the match following the withdrawal of Aaron Lennon through injury.
Yet, along with Wolves' Matt Jarvis, Welbeck was still given his first taste of international action in the 1-1 draw with the World Cup quarter-finalists who he is also eligible for.
In itself, it will not prevent him playing for Ghana as tonight's encounter was a friendly. However, Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic said after the match Welbeck has "chosen England" and the visiting supporters gave loud boos when the Manchester United youngster, who is having such an excellent season on loan at Sunderland, made his entrance.
"Absolutely not,'' said Capello, when asked whether he was merely blocking Ghana from picking Welbeck in the future. I work for England. I always select the best players for England. Yesterday, Aaron Lennon was injured. That is why I picked Welbeck.''
In truth, the striker has been mentioned often enough as a potential England striker, with Sir Alex Ferguson predicting at the start of last season that Welbeck would end up at the World Cup.
"Danny Welbeck is going to be a very important player for England and Manchester United,'' said Capello. "I monitored him last year. He was an important player then. I went to see him three times but then he got injured. However, he is a really good player.''
The Welbeck issue added controversy to a fabulous evening, which dispelled the theory of Wembley playing host to a meaningless friendly.

Carrick out of England squad
Michael Carrick has withdrawn from the England squad to face Switzerland on Saturday after sustaining an injury during the Champions League final.
Carrick started Manchester United's 3-1 defeat to Barcelona at the weekend but was replaced by Paul Scholes on 77 minutes after sustaining a knock. It is thought to be a hip injury.
He joined up with the England camp on Monday evening but has been unable to train and, after further examination by the medical staff, he has been released from international duty to seek treatment at his club.
Fabio Capello will not call up a replacement for Carrick, with Jack Wilshere, Scott Parker and Frank Lampard expected to start the Euro 2012 qualifier at Wembley.
Jermain Defoe and David Stockdale have already withdrawn from the squad, with the latter replaced by Robert Green.

Reds stars on track for 2012
A number of United players remain on track for Euro 2012, after helping their national teams to claim or consolidate top spots in their qualifying groups.
Portugal's 1-0 home win over Norway was a vital one - it enabled Nani's side to match their opponents on 10 points and go top of Group H. Sporting Lisbon striker Helder Postiga scored the decisive goal shortly after half-time in Lisbon, where Nani played 86 minutes before being replaced by Silvestre Varela. The Portuguese have three qualifiers to complete in the autumn - the final one, in Copenhagen on 11 October, currently has the makings of a play-off as Denmark also have 10 points and lie second after winning 2-0 in Iceland on Saturday night.
Republic of Ireland are in a similar position; points-wise they are also in a three-way tie at the top of Group B, with Russia and Slovakia. All three sides won on Saturday, with United's John O'Shea helping the Irish to beat Macedonia 2-0 away. Robbie Keane's 50th and 51st goals for his country, both scored in the first half, were enough to clinch an impressive victory. O'Shea played the full 90 minutes in Skopje and was relieved when a penalty he conceded shortly before the break was missed by Ivan Trickovski.
England retained pole position in Group G but only just. Rio Ferdinand and co were trailing 0-2 to Switzerland at Wembley following a quick-fire double by Tranquillo Barnetta, but Frank Lampard's penalty halved the arrears for the interval and then Ashley Young equalised just six minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute for England's first scorer.
Fabio Capello's men now have the same number of points as Montenegro who were also held at home, 1-1 by Bulgaria.
Patrice Evra was an unused sub in Minsk where clear Group D leaders France were held 1-1 by Belarus. Both goals came around the midway point in the first half; the hosts took the lead through an own goal by Barcelona defender Eric Abidal but they were only in front for two minutes until Chelsea winger Florent Malouda equalised.
Three young Reds were on international duty on Sunday afternoon, as England's Under-21s warmed up for this month's European Championships by beating Norway 2-0 at St Mary's, home of Southampton. Chris Smalling played the full match, while Danny Welbeck came off at half-time to be replaced by United team-mate Tom Cleverley. All three are hoping to feature when England play their first match in the Denmark-hosted tournament against Spain next Sunday.

Patrice helps France to victory
Patrice Evra completed 90 minutes in Donetsk on Monday as France beat Ukraine 4-1 in an international friendly.
The 30-year-old, who was an unused substitute in France’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Belarus last Friday, came into the team for Eric Abidal, who put through his own net in that 1-1 draw.
Evra featured against Ukraine from the first whistle, although couldn't prevent a clean sheet as the home side took the lead just after the interval through veteran midfielder Anatoliy Tymoschuk. His long-range shot somehow beat Marseille stopper Steve Mandanda, although France boss Laurent Blanc later refused to criticise his goalkeeper for the error.
Gameiro pulled one back almost instantly for Les Bleus before debutants Marvin Martin (two goals) and Younes Kaboul handed France victory with three late goals. Until the 87th minute, scores were locked at 1-1.
France now face Poland on Thursday 9 June in another friendly before Evra commences his summer break. Even though Patrice will be keen to relax on holiday, you can bet United's Champions League final defeat (and his third loss on club football’s biggest stage) will nag away at him.
Speaking immediately after the Wembley loss to Barcelona, Evra was determined to exact revenge. “I want to come back to the final and play against Barcelona again," he said.
"Manchester United had a good season – not a great season because we didn’t win [in the Champions League final].
“But we have still won the league and we are going to win the league against next year, and make sure we win the Champions League as well.”
Evra is scheduled to report back to Carrington for pre-season training in early July.

Welbeck rides to England's rescue
United striker Danny Welbeck salvaged an unlikely point for England's Under-21s on Sunday night against a predictably impressive Spain.
The young Reds forward netted in the 88th minute of the UEFA Under-21 Championships match in Herning, Denmark, to level the scores at 1-1. Tottenham defender Kyle Walker made a powerful run to feed Welbeck for a cool turn and finish past Spain goalkeeper David de Gea, the Atletico Madrid star wanted by Sir Alex Ferguson.
United team-mates Tom Cleverley and Chris Smalling joined Welbeck in starting for Stuart Pearce's side. Fourteen minutes in, they were looking at a very difficult evening's work after conceding the opening goal to Real Zaragoza midfielder Ander Herrera.
Spain went on to dominate possession and outplay England at times with their crisp passing. De Gea was largely a spectator but he reacted well to prevent an equaliser just before half-time, when one of his defenders inadvertently diverted Walker's cross towards his own goal.
Welbeck's first entry into the referee's notebook was for a yellow card in the 35th minute, following a late touchline challenge on Barcelona forward Jeffren. The young United striker could have received a costly second caution, for bringing down Spain captain Javi Martinez in the second half, but Swedish match official Markus Strombergsson was merciful. Both Smalling and Welbeck completed the 90 minutes, as did the England defender being touted for a move to United - Blackburn's Phil Jones. Cleverley, operating on the right of midfield, came off in the 81st minute to be replaced by Chelsea winger Scott Sinclair.
England's next game in Group B is on Wednesday night against Ukraine, who lost 2-1 to Czech Republic in Sunday's earlier match. The other fixtures in the opening weekend of the UEFA Under-21 Championships, in Group A, resulted in Belarus beating Iceland 2-0 and Switzerland sinking the host nation Denmark 1-0.

Jonny Evans impressed in the only European Championship qualifier of the night as Northern Ireland defeated Faroe Islands 4-0 in Belfast.
The home side were made to work for their Group C victory but Evans superbly teed up the third goal for the outstanding Paddy McCourt, who scored twice, with a clever backheel.
Darron Gibson was booked in Republic of Ireland's 0-0 draw with Croatia as he played the full 90 minutes but Anders Lindegaard didn't get off the bench as Denmark were beaten 2-1 in Scotland.
Nemanja Vidic played in Serbia's 1-0 away defeat to Russia and picked up a yellow card in the closing stages, and Mame Biram Diouf took part in the last half hour of Senegal's 2-0 reverse to Morocco. Nani also came on as a substitute, for Portugal, in their 5-0 friendly battering of Luxembourg.
At Under-21 level, Federico Macheda came on as a subsitute in Italy's 1-1 draw with Switzerland while Oliver Norwood played the full 90 minutes of Northern Ireland's win against Faroe Islands as the youngsters mirrored the senior team's 4-0 scoreline.

David De Gea was one of a number of Reds involved in international action on Thursday.
The young keeper captained Spain Under-21s to a thumping 7-2 win in Georgia after winning the European Championship with them in the summer. Benfica's Rodrigo hit a hat-trick for the reigning champions and De Gea had little chance with the home side's goals. "Great victory," he Tweeted. "Now flying to Lugo for the second game with Georgia on Monday."
Another goalie, Ben Amos, was an unused substitute in England Under-21s' 6-0 romp against Azerbaijan but a third United keeper - Sam Johnstone - was one of three Old Trafford representatives in the Under-19s' 0-0 draw in Holland. Will Keane played in attack and Larnell Cole came off the bench for the second half to make his international debut.
"The three new lads [including Cole] were involved for the first time and they can all be happy with their contributions," coach Noel Blake commented to TheFA.com.
Robbie Brady continued his fine form for club (Hull) and country with the opening goal in Republic of Ireland Under-21s' 2-1 success against Hungary in European Championship Group Seven. The official FAI site reported that the winger "turned on the style".
And Paddy McNair started in midfield for Northern Ireland's youngsters*as they pulled off a fine 1-0 win away to Switzerland. Manager Paul McKee said of the friendly display on the official website: "That’s one of the best performances I have seen from an Under-17 Northern Ireland team."

Tom Cleverley and Phil Jones are hoping to make their England debuts in Friday night's Euro 2012 qualifier with Bulgaria.
Cleverley is grateful for another chance to impress after reliving an embarrassing first impression in senior training with Jones finding his team-mate's own goal very amusing in the exclusive interview with FATV.
"It was an own goal in a full-sided game," the midfielder recalled. "I was gutted the game got called off anyway but it meant I had to leave on the own goal really.
"At least I scored in my first session! I tried rolling back to Rob Green and it came off my shin and ended up flying in the net. It was a pretty embarrassing moment for me."
Jones admitted Wayne Rooney has helped him settle in to the senior set-up under Fabio Capello.
"He's Wayne Rooney - a good character and a lively character," said the defender. "He's been very helpful and understanding and has certainly made me feel welcome at international level and on club duty. He's a fantastic player and you can only learn from him. It's great to have him around.
"Everyone's world-class players here and it's about the collective team spirit. We've got to come together and produce the goods on Friday night. There's no fear, just excitement to get out there."
Cleverley echoed those sentiments as he relishes his first taste of an England international after missing out on a debut against Holland due to the riots in London.
"There's a good vibe," he stressed. "Everyone seems in good form for their clubs.
"It's my first experience of senior international football and I'm expecting quite a hostile environment as their fans and players will be up for it. So I'm expecting a tough test."

International Reds round-up

Wayne Rooney produced a masterclass in how to lead the line as England triumphed 3-0 in Bulgaria.
All the goals came inside the first half with Gary Cahill claiming the opener before Rooney rose to powerfully head home a Stewart Downing corner ahead of team-mate John Terry.
Seconds before the break, Ashley Young teed up his Reds colleague for a simple tap-in and the striker went on to lead the home defence a merry dance throughout the second half - although he looked uncomfortable in the final moments after over-stretching when hunting a hat-trick goal.
Chris Smalling made an accomplished debut at right-back, despite being subjected to a thorough examination by Martin Petrov and co, as he made one vital headed clearance and defended resolutely.
Young was substituted just past the hour mark with his job done in front of Dimitar Berbatov in the crowd as Fabio Capello's side remain on course for a place at Euro 2012 - Tuesday's opponents Wales doing England a favour with a 2-1 win over Montenegro.
After the game, it emerged that the FA reported racial abuse from the home fans aimed at Young to UEFA delegates at the stadium.
Javier Hernandez did what he does best for Mexico, despatching a typically clinical finish to earn his country a 1-1 draw with Poland and continuing his remarkable strike-rate at international level.
Nani played his part in Portugal's 4-0 win at ten-man Cyprus in Group H - helping to set up one of Cristiano Ronaldo's two goals before going off with five minutes remaining. Jonny Evans picked up a last-minute yellow card as Northern Ireland slipped to a costly home reverse against Serbia in Group C.
Patrice Evra played the full 90 minutes of France's hard-fought 2-1 success in Albania and, on Saturday, Darren Fletcher marked his comeback with a goal and an assist for Scotland in the 2-2 draw with Czech Republic.

Sir Alex admits he's keeping his fingers crossed that all his players come back from international duty unscathed.
United have five representatives in Fabio Capello's England squad and Wayne Rooney appeared to pick up a minor injury towards the end of the 3-0 victory in Bulgaria on Friday night.
The in-form striker is expected to be fit for Tuesday's clash with Wales at Wembley and is one of 10 players who could be in action for their countries ahead of Saturday's teatime encounter with Bolton.
However, the boss is pleased that the international calendar has rescheduled matches for Tuesday to give clubs a vital extra 24 hours of preparation for domestic weekend commitments.
"You've just got to accept it," he told MUTV. "There's nothing you can do about it.
"Over the last year, we had Paul [Scholes], Gary [Neville], Ryan [Giggs] and Edwin [van der Sar] who had retired from internationals so we had the benefit of having those players for weekends. Now those players, bar Giggsy,*are away from us*so most of the players are going to internationals.
"We have to keep our fingers crossed that they come back healthy. Sometimes we're lucky, sometimes we're not. It's not in our hands.
"The only benefit is the internationals are now Tuesday fixtures and that gives us an extra day to prepare for weekend games."

Reds in Euro 2012 action
http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2011/Sep/~/media/First%20Team%20Players/Groups%20201112/rooney_young_england.ashx?20110905T1342201396
The Reds will have more players in international action on Tuesday night as the Euro 2012 qualifiers continue.
Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young, Phil Jones and Tom Cleverley will all be aiming to help England edge a step closer to qualification when they take on Wales at Wembley. Capello's men recorded a 3-0 win in Bulgaria on Friday night, thanks to Gary Cahill and a Rooney double and a victory over Wales would put England on the verge of booking their place in Poland and the Ukraine next summer.
Darren Fletcher is set to skipper Scotland again in their qualifier against Lithuania at Hampden Park. The Scots were dealt a huge blow to their Euro 2012 prospects after losing a later equaliser to the Czech Republic on Saturday, but Fletch and co. won't go down without a fight.
Meanwhile, Jonny Evans will travel with Northern Ireland, who face an uphill struggle to qualify for a play-off place, to Tallinn for the clash with Estonia, while Patrice Evra will be in Romania with in-form France and goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard is in the Denmark squad who will play Norway in Copenhagen.

Young boosts England
Two United midfielders had contrasting first halves with their countries on Tuesday night as the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign continued.
While Ashley Young scored the only goal of England's game against Wales at Wembley in the 35th minute, Darren Fletcher missed a penalty just before the break in Scotland's must-win home match with Lithuania. Fortunately for Fletcher, Steven Naismith netted for his side five minutes after the restart to ultimately give the Scots the same slender victory as England - 1-0.
The two nations are in very different positions in terms of qualifying for next summer's European Championship finals, however. After beating Wales, England are top of Group G by six points and can confirm a place in Poland and Ukraine with a draw away to Montenegro in October. Scotland lie third in Group I, ten points behind the leaders Spain and two adrift of Czech Republic who are favourites to reach the play-offs.
Like Fletcher, Young and new England right-back Chris Smalling both completed a full 90 on Tuesday night, with Wayne Rooney falling just short when he was replaced by Andy Carroll in the 89th minute.
Young admitted it wasn't the most fluid of displays by his team, telling ITV after the match: "I'm not sure what it was but we just couldn't get going in the second half. But while the performance wasn't great, we've done what we set out to do, to win.
"We've got another tough game to come now, Montenegro away, so we've got to prepare well for that and keep everyone fit. If we put in a good performance there, I'm sure we can come away with three points."
Patrice Evra also played from start to finish, in France's frustrating 0-0 away draw with Romania in Group D. It was still a useful reconnaissance mission for the United left-back - the Reds are due to play Otelul Galati in the Champions League at the same national stadium in Bucharest on 18 October.
Sadly, Northern Ireland's bid to reach the Euro 2012 finals is over. Missing players like the suspended United defender Jonny Evans, they suffered a heavy defeat - 4-1 - in Estonia.

Amos makes Under-21 debut
United keeper Ben Amos made his England Under-21 debut in Monday night's 4-1 victory against Israel.
The step up was a natural progression for the young shot-stopper, who has represented his country at Under-16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 level.
After being in Stuart Pearce's squad for the matches with Iceland and Azerbaijan, he was handed a start at Barnsley's Oakwell ahead of Birmingham's Jack Butland.
Although the hosts fell behind to a Mohammad Klibat strike on the break, they recovered to register a convincing triumph in the friendly with Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain providing three assists.
United also have England's current Under-19 keeper in the shape of Sam Johnstone.
Amos' England caps:
Under-21: 1 cap
Under-20: 1 cap
Under-19: 2 caps
Under-18: 1 cap
Under-17: 7 caps
Under-16: 3 caps

>> Tim Muda Sukses, Sir Alex Ferguson Terkejut <<
"Masih banyak pertandingan besar segera datang. Kami punya Chelsea Minggu depan, dan juga pergi ke Lisbon Rabu ini, yang juga pertandingan penting. Benfica selalu menjadi lawan sulit, dan itu akan menjadi partai berat," pikirnya.

Rio out of England squad

Rio Ferdinand has been left out of the England squad for Friday’s Euro 2012 qualifier in Montenegro.
The Reds defender missed his country’s wins over Bulgaria and Wales last month with a hamstring injury suffered on the opening day against West Brom, but returned to the United starting line-up for the victory at Bolton and draws against Stoke and Basel.
He came on as a substitute in Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Norwich, but England boss Fabio Capello has decided to stick with John Terry and Gary Cahill as his centre-backs.
However, Capello has named Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones, Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney in his party for the game, from which England only need a point to qualify for the finals in Poland and Ukraine next summer.
Welbeck, who scored the game-clinching second against the Canaries at the weekend to make it five goals in seven games for the Reds this term, also missed England’s last two matches with a hamstring injury.
Jones will be hoping to make his senior international debut after a hugely impressive start to his United career, while Young was called up despite missing the weekend game with a "little knock"
Nemanja Vidic will join the Serbia squad on Thursday for their Euro 2012 qualifers against Italy and Slovenia, though the injured Reds skipper will definitely miss the former of those*games.
Fabio has earned his first call-up for Brazil's friendlies in Costa Rica and Mexico, where he could face team-mate Javier Hernandez.
Two other Reds who could potentially square off are Nani and Anders Lindegaard, though the latter is expected to be on the bench for Denmark's qualifer against Portugal.
Jonny Evans returns from suspension for Northern Ireland's two qualifers, while Patrice Evra and Darren Fletcher are also in*competitive action for France and Scotland respectively.
Goalkeepers David De Gea and Ben Amos*have been called up*at Under-21 level, and Antonio Valencia has been named in Ecuador's squad for the friendly against USA.
Finally, Mame Biram Diouf is in Senegal's squad for their final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius.

Several United stars have been forced to withdraw from international duty through injury.
Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington confirmed Jonny Evans' unavailability for the matches with Estonia and Italy due to an ankle problem on Wednesday while Darren Fletcher and Anders Lindegaard are also absentees for their respective countries.
Fletcher will miss Scotland's clash with Liechtenstein in Vaduz*on Saturday after suffering a bout of tonsilitis but Craig Levein hopes to have his skipper fit for the tough examination against world champions Spain on Tuesday.
Lindegaard,*meanwhile, picked up an injury during the 2-0 win against Norwich - his Barclays Premier League debut.
"I*got a stamp on my ankle at the start of the match on Saturday and should have come off," Lindegaard*told the Daily Star. "I chose to carry on and paid the price. Although I have to sit on my couch with my leg up now, it was incredibly important for me to play. The medical staff at United believe that the earliest I could train again is next week."
Meanwhile, the Serbian media are reporting that Reds skipper Nemanja Vidic is confident he will be ready to face Slovenia on Tuesday in Maribor.
The commanding centre-back has been out since the win at West Brom but could play himself into contention for a United return against Liverpool at the weekend.
Goalkeepers Ben Amos and David De Gea are on Under-21 duty for England and Spain respectively on Thursday.

United's representatives in Euro 2012 action were certainly heavily involved as England clinched a place at the finals with a 2-2 draw in Montenegro.
Ashley Young opened the scoring but the headlines will be dominated by Wayne Rooney's second-half sending off. Phil Jones made his debut and looked like he'd been playing right-back for his country all his life. Inside two minutes he burst past a couple of defenders to force a nervous palm over from Mladen Bozovic.
Rooney fed Theo Walcott to centre for Young to head in from close range and the United duo set up Darren Bent for the second, with Young crossing unselfishly from the left for a simple tap-in by his former Aston Villa team-mate.
Jones' enterprising play marked him out as a target for some rough treatment but he survived a penalty scare when tackling Stevan Jovetic inside the box. Young went off on the hour mark and appeared to put an ice-pack on his knee and, after Rooney just failed to connect with a deflected cross from Jones, there was more bad news when Rooney kicked out at Miodrag Dzudovic. Referee Wolfgang Stark flashed a red card and the United No10 will be suspended for a minimum of one game during the finals next year.
At least it allowed Danny Welbeck the chance to come on for Walcott but the striker was caught by a cynical elbow late on after making one stupendous run*through the home defence. It was a real test for Fabio Capello's side in the second half and no real surprise when Andrija Delibasic headed an injury-time equaliser.
Meanwhile, United are sweating over the fitness of Patrice Evra after he was forced off due to injury at half-time in the 3-0 win against Albania, with Anthony Reveillere taking his place.
Portugal*outscored Iceland*5-3 with Nani scoring the first two goals. The in-form winger glanced in a well-directed, crouching header*from an*Eliseu cross*and then punished a dreadful mistake by Solvi Jonsson to tap home and double the advantage.
Fabio is to make his Brazil debut in the international against Costa Rica in the early hours of Saturday morning after being named at right-back in the provisional starting line-up.

Javier Hernandez earned a penalty for Mexico but his side still slipped to a home defeat*by ten-man Brazil in Torreon on Tuesday night.
Chicharito was brought down by Dani Alves just before half-time in the friendly with the Barcelona defender receiving a second yellow card for the challenge. However, Andres Guardado's spot-kick was saved by Jefferson and the Brazilians went on to record*a hard-fought victory with Ronaldinho scoring his first international goal since 2007.
United full-back Fabio, who went off injured at the weekend in the match against Costa Rica, did not have any game-time for Mano Menezes' side.
Antonio Valencia was a key part of the Ecuador team that triumphed 1-0 against USA in New Jersey. Jurgen Klinsmann's charges were beaten by Jaime Ayovi's header, which flew past former Reds goalkeeper*Tim Howard.

Disappointment for United stars

United's five players in Euro 2012 action endured a largely disappointing night although Patrice Evra's France scraped the point required to take them through to the finals.
Laurent Blanc's Bleus were trailing to Edin Dzeko's strike but his Manchester City team-mate Samir Nasri's penalty rescued the home side in Paris with 12 minutes left. France's 1-1 draw was the only positive result for the quintet of Reds participating in the qualifiers on Tuesday night, with Nemanja Vidic, Nani, Darren Fletcher and Oliver Norwood all involved in defeats.
Vidic's return from a long injury lay-off was good news at least for United fans, even if he*spurned a glorious opportunity to turn things around for Serbia in*Slovenia. The hosts' goalkeeper Samir Handanovic saved*the*Reds skipper's*penalty after 64 minutes as a 1-0 loss sent Estonia into the play-offs at Serbia's expense.
Nani was bright for Portugal but couldn't prevent his side from slipping to a 2-1 defeat to Denmark, a result that enabled the Danes to clinch top spot in Group H. Nani, whose side scored a late consolation through Cristiano Ronaldo, edged out Norway for second place so the play-offs still offer a route to the finals.
Scotland, as expected, were no match for world and European champions Spain as a 3-1 reverse signalled the end of Darren Fletcher's hopes of appearing in the finals in Poland and Ukraine next summer. The captain worked*hard for 85 minutes, went close with a shot over the bar and*collected a yellow card*as Craig Levein's team were well beaten.
Oliver Norwood picked up some valuable experience, playing 73 minutes for Northern Ireland in Nigel Worthington's final match in charge. Unfortunately, Italy ran out comfortable 3-0 victors in Pescara.
Republic of Ireland made it through to the play-offs which*means Darron Gibson*is another Red still involved in Euro 2012 despite currently being sidelined with an injury.
