Sir Alex Ferguson normally likes his players to settle down and get married, but the Manchester United manager might have wished Rafael da Silva would be an exception to the rule.

The Brazilian right back returned from the summer break a married man, taking away the Ferguson’s ability to tell apart Rafael from his identical twin brother Fabio.

The 20-year-olds may have been in England for more than two years - and have known the United boss twice as long - but the pair are still easily mixed up.

'When we came to the club, Fabio had just got married and wore a ring,’ Rafael told Globoesporte. ‘So our boss just had to look at the left hand to tell us apart. It was quite funny.

‘But now we are both married and wear rings. This has made his life more difficult and occasionally he still gets it wrong. We laugh, but he takes it well.’

Fabio was handed a rare start at left back in Tuesday’s goalless Champions League draw with Rangers, while suspended Rafael watched from the stands.

Both were distraught to see Antonio Valencia suffer a freak ankle injury that could keep the winger out for the rest of the season.

Fabio said: ‘I was very sad about his injury, he is one of mine and Rafael’s best friends at the club, and an excellent player.

‘I will go with my brother to visit him at the hospital, but I wish him a speedy recovery. He’s a great guy, fun and always helpful.

LONDON — When the da Silva twins were 11 years old, they watched on television at home when Brazil’s captain, Cafu, lifted the 2002 World Cup in Yokohama City, Japan.

“One day,” said their father, “it will be you two.” At age 15, Rafael and Fábio da Silva lived and trained with their nearest big club, Fluminense, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. By 17, the scouts of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Arsenal were seeing what their father saw.

United, the first to make an offer, won the signatures. Now 20, and still so identical that they are difficult to tell apart, the da Silvas tore Arsenal apart in England’s oldest competition, the F.A. Cup. They looked, indeed, to be contenders for the World Cup on Brazilian soil in 2014.

Fábio scored one of the goals in United’s 2-0 home victory on Saturday. His brother played a part in both goals. And neither was selected to perform in the fullback positions they are maturing into. With a heavy list of injuries, and with senior players held back for the Champions League match against Marseille on Tuesday, the United manager Alex Ferguson improvised. “I needed to come up with a plan that gave us energy in midfield,” said Sir Alex. “The da Silvas are such keen and enthusiastic boys, I felt they could do it.” He chose them on the wings.

It took a grasp of history rather than foresight to make the switch. Cafu and Roberto Carlos, the 2002 World Cup fullbacks, were actually wingers in disguise, as were many Brazilians before them. The movement, the skill, the soul of the true Brazilian “fullback” automatically makes him at least a wing-back — a player who counter attacks by instinct.

Alex Ferguson, on the other hand, just keeps on finding match winners. His two rabbits out of the hat Saturday were undoubtedly the verve and energy of the twins, and the enduring reflexes and reactions of his goalie Edwin van der Sar. The goalkeeper, well past his 40th birthday, pulled off one double save against Arsenal that had to be seen to be believed. One moment he was down on the grass, deflecting the ball with his legs; the next he was leaping high to claw away a shot bound for the top corner of his net.

Meanwhile, Rafael da Silva admits he's found it difficult to make friends in England.

Rafael and twin brother Fabio are close and admit they do not have many friends outside their inner circle.

"We do not care about drinking, partying and stuff," said Rafael. "And people here are different. It is difficult to make friends.

"Robinho lived here (when he was with Manchester City) and liked to party. But each has his way and knows himself. There's no reason to be homesick."

However the twins have ruled out pledging their international future to Portugal.

The pair, who have both played for Brazil U17, qualify for Portugal through family connections and there are concerns they could turn their back on Brazil.

"No way," declared Fabio.

"Our biggest dream is to represent Brazil at the 2014 World Cup. Of course it is wonderful to be in Manchester, and we want to stay here for a long time.

Bola.net - Duo kembar Manchester United asal Brasil, Rafael dan Fabio da Silva, mendapat banyak pujian atas penampilan mereka saat United mengalahkan Arsenal 2-0 di Old Trafford, Sabtu (12/3) kemarin.

Fabio membuka kemenangan United berkat golnya di babak pertama sebelum Wayne Rooney menggandakan keunggulan United pada babak kedua.

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar hailed the impact of the Da Silva twins in their FA Cup victory over Arsenal.

Van der Sar admits the selection of Fabio and Rafael even surprised senior United players.

"It was a team we had never even trained with, let alone played," Van der Sar said.

"I was chatting to Patrice (Evra) in the car going to Old Trafford the day before the game about what the team was going to be.

"We came up with Fabio on the left. We never guessed Rafael would be on the right wing.

The Brazilian twins on growing up in Rio, getting married, setting fire to Anderson's slippers and joking around with Señor Alex

Tell us about your childhood? Did you grow up in Rio?
Rafael: Yeah, it was in Rio state but in a city one hour from Rio de Janeiro, Petropolis. I don't remember everything as a kid. Flying kites. But we played football from the start, since we were five years old. It wasn't a great neighbourhood you know, but it was normal, a poor Rio neighbourhood, very different from here and football was the only thing we would do.

Are there any other footballers in your family?
Rafael: Our older brother, Luis Henrique used to play for Brescia in Italy. He lives here with us and with his wife but he went back to Brazil because they are going to have a child in a week. Our whole family lives here, Mum, Dad and I have two sisters-in-law.

Fabio is already married…
Fabio: Yeah I got, I'm serious like that, I like being at home [Rafael shakes head and laughs]. She's called Barbara. We got married so that she could come here.
Rafael: I'm less introverted than him, and it's always been like that. Here I don't go out but in Brazil I do.

How did you end up at Fluminense [the twins' first club in Rio]?
Fabio: Well we played there in our neighbourhood, near to Fluminense. We used to play five-a-side and one day someone from Fluminense asked us to play for them.

Were Fluminense your team, the team you supported?
Rafael: Yes. We always dreamed of playing for them. We were 11 when we went to live there at the club. I cried a lot but I got used to it after a while. It took time and initially it was difficult because we were very young. But after a year it was normal. We have a lot of friends from our time there, our best friends in the world are from there. I like it here but it doesn't compare to Brazil.

When did you find out that there were people [scouts] coming to watch your games?
Fabio: Three years ago, the coach of Fluminense called me and said that there was a coach from Manchester United that wanted to talk to us and I was very surprised. My God! But he said that it was just to meet us, not for us to play for them

Were any other European clubs interested in you?
Fabio: Yeah, Arsenal and we also spoke to Real Madrid when we were playing for the national team.

Why did you choose Manchester United – or did Manchester United choose you?
Rafael: A little bit of both, they work very hard and everyone knows them. And Señor Alex always speaks well and is always very supportive of us. He really likes to know what people are like both on and off the field, the stance of a man. But we joke around and we speak.

So how is Ferguson, is he very strict?
Fabio: He jokes around with us.

How difficult was it playing with the stars at Manchester United when you arrived?
Rafael: The first time I felt strange going through the door with all the guys there… I felt very shy, really, really shy. But when we started training and getting to know them, it felt normal and the same as playing in Fluminense, it isn't any different. Patrice Evra, Carlos Tevez and Park are always together. They're never apart. Rio Ferdinand is a great friend of ours. He's the biggest joker of them all.

Do you see the other players off the field?
Rafael: Only the other Portuguese players, we've already had a barbecue here and at Nani's house.

Who are the biggest jokers at the club?
Fabio: Rio and Patrice. Once, Anderson came to training in his slippers and they set fire to his slippers and tipped cream out all over them.

And the most serious?
Fabio: During training everyone is serious. But the most serious would be Paul Scholes.

Do you hope to play for Brazil in the future?
Fabio: Of course.

But Carlos Quieroz thinks differently doesn't he?
Rafael: My aim is to play for Brazil but if that isn't happening, I could play for Portugal.
Fabio: We have a Portuguese grandfather but my dream is to play for Brazil.
Rafael: I'm just being honest.

What do you think about players that choose to play for Portugal, like Deco?
Rafael: I don't have a problem with it. My issue is when Pepe says he is Portuguese. He is forgetting where he is from, and his culture and heritage. It's very important, you have to remember where you were born. My older brother was going to have children and decided to go back to Brazil and have the children there, amongst Brazilians.

So, then, do you miss home?
Fabio: We miss everything; the heat, the culture, the people, everyone talking with everyone, going to other people's houses, the humour, playing football and volleyball on the beach…

Are you worried Brazil won't qualify for the World Cup?
Rafael: No-one thinks like that in Brazil, we've never missed a World Cup, everyone wants to see Brazil play.
Fabio: There's a lot of pressure playing in Brazil. We reached the final in '94, '98, 2002, only in 2006 did we not reach the final and we were the best team. Going out in the quarter finals felt like we had been knocked out in the first round.

Rafael, having played in both the Champions League and the Premier League, which do you find harder?
Rafael: The Premier League. It's stronger, quicker and has more talent. It has better teams who know how to play. I'm trying to improve defensively and I need to improve. But I like attacking far more.

You're already quite famous, do you have any difficulty walking along the streets and things like that?
Fabio: It's funny because here in England, the people respect the players. For example, when we're shopping the English look, sometimes even come up and ask for a photo but they always come and start to talk. Every player can walk around, the problem is when they think 'ah I'm not going there because there's going to be a lots of people'. No, if he's just walking normally, no one will harass him. Of course, when we're in the stadium they harass you but not in the shopping centre.

What do you think of Robinho taking the bus to the Trafford Centre?
Fabio: Well Brazilians are like that. 'Do you want to go there?' 'Let's take the bus then'. Come on. I doubt that people would stop and stare at him, they wouldn't believe it was him. The English players wouldn't do the same but yeah I'd take the bus too.

Bola.net - Duo kembar Manchester United asal Brasil, Rafael dan Fabio da Silva, mendapat banyak pujian atas penampilan mereka saat United mengalahkan Arsenal 2-0 di Old Trafford, Sabtu (12/3) kemarin.

Fabio membuka kemenangan United berkat golnya di babak pertama sebelum Wayne Rooney menggandakan keunggulan United pada babak kedua.

Belakangan, diketahui bahwa Fabio dan saudara kembarnya, Rafael, sempat hampir gabung Arsenal sebelum ke United.

"Arsenal tertarik, tapi kami memilih United karena mereka mau bekerja keras dan semua orang tahu hal ini," kata Fabio usai pertandingan seperti dilansir Dailymail.

The Brazilians signed for United in February 2007 and moved over in January 2008 without ever having played a first-team game for their former club Fluminense.

Rafael admitted to The Sun: "We were quite intimidated when we arrived because United have so many stars, but people at the club were awesome in helping these two kids from Brazil feel so welcome."

Rafael da Silva says he will be happy for his twin brother, Fabio, if he is selected for this weekend's Champions League final clash with Barcelona.

One of the most intriguing selection dilemmas for Sir Alex Ferguson centres around his starting right-back at Wembley, with the twins and John O'Shea all in contention.

After nailing down the position for the bulk of this season, Rafael has been usurped by Fabio and O'Shea in recent weeks, but the more experienced da Silva twin says everyone is benefiting from the increased competition.

"I think it's always important to have rivalry," he says. "That makes us better football players. I think it's me, my brother Fabio and John O'Shea fighting for the same place.

"I'll be very happy for Fabio if he gets picked. I'll be sad for myself if I'm not playing but I'll be feeling happy for him. It's difficult for us to be competing for the same position but at the same time it's good. It helps us grow as players.

"I think I'm much more aggressive than him. He's much calmer than me. I get much more nervous when he's playing. I'm not sure why this happens but it does!"

The twins' potential involvement at Wembley is, according to Rafael, further validation of their decision to move to England in order to further their careers.

"Moments like this are the ones when we realise it was well worth it to leave everything behind in Brazil," he says. "This is a big challenge.

"It's very important for us to prepare properly, while taking into account that this is a Champions League final. We've done that so far and I'm confident we'll be ready."

Kalo mereka hadep depan enak. Rafael ini ciri2nya kalo senyum salah satu sudut bibirnya agak diangatk kayak gini lah >>> /:)

Kalo rambur si rafael lebih lepek/kriting dan gak ngembang, sementara fabio lebih mengembang/kriwil... nah kalo pelukan gini susah banget..hahaha jd kayknya yg dibawah/meluk itu pasti rafael, yg dipeluk/atas pasti fabio.... bukan begitu, nis? :P
