Biografi Pele

Terlahir dengan nama lengkap Edson Arantes Do Nascimento, bakat Pele pertama kali ditemukan oleh mantan pemain Brasil Waldemar de Brito. Kala itu usia Pele baru menginjak 11 tahun. Di bawah asuhan Waldemar, pria kelahiran Tres Coracoes, 23 Oktober 1940 ini tumbuh menjadi pemain yang luar biasa. Menginjak usia 15 tahun Pele mulai direkrut ke klub Santos. Cukup satu tahun ia langsung mengawali debut di Santos dengan sebuah gol saat klubnya bertemu Corinthians, September 1956. Kala itu publik sepakbola Brasil menyakini bahwa legenda sepakbola dunia telah lahir.

Di usianya yang ke-17, Pele memulai debut di Piala Dunia Swedia 1958. Dalam ajang yang sama juga Brasil untuk pertama kalinya berhasil merebut gelar Piala Dunia. Pele menjadi pemain termuda yang mampu menjaringkan 6 gol dalam ajang Piala Dunia. Pele menjaringkan gol kemenangan saat melawan Wales, mencetak hattrick saat melawan Perancis di semifinal dan mencetak dua gol lagi saat Brasil membungkam tuan rumah Swedia 5-2 di final.
Cedera serius yang dialami saat bermain di partai pembuka melawan Meksiko membuat Pele harus puas menyaksikan kejayaan rekan-rekan setimnya saat keluar sebagai juara di Piala Dunia 1962. Menjadi bintang besar dan dianggap sebagai pemain berbahaya di dunia membuat gerak-gerik Pele selalu diawasi oleh setiap lawannya. Cedera serupa juga dialami Pele saat tampil di Piala Dunia 1966. Ironisnya tanpa kehadiran Pele, saat itu Brasil mengalami nasib tragis karena harus tersingkir di babak awal.
Pele harus menunggu sampai Piala Dunia 1970 diselenggarakan. Saat itu obsesinya untuk membawa Brasil memboyong tropi Jules Rimet untuk selamanya akhirnya menjadi kenyataan. Bersama Jairzinho, Tostao, Rivelino, dan Carlos Alberto, Pele sukses menjadi pemain pertama yang mampu merasakan tiga kali menjadi juara dunia. Dalam partai final pada Piala dunia 1970 itu juga Pele mampu melengkapi rekor gol ke-100 yang dijaringkan Brasil selama mengikuti Piala Dunia. Usai partai final Piala Dunia 1970 harian terkemuka Sunday Times dalam headline-nya mengangkat judul : “Bagaimana anda mengeja Pele? G-O-D (T-U-H-A-N/red)”.
Sepanjang kariernya sebagai pemain, Pele telah 92 memperkuat Brasil dalam partai internasional dengan koleksi 77 gol. Prestasinya di klub bersama Santos di Liga Brasil (1956-1974) maupun bersama New York Cosmo di Liga Amerika (1975-1977) juga sangat spektakuler. Bersama Santos, Pele 11 kali menjuarai kompetisi Sao Paulo, 6 kali juara Piala Brasil, 2 kali juara Copa Libertadores serta 11 kali menjadi topskor di kompetisi Sao Paulo. Secara keseluruhan Pele telah mencetak 1281 gol dalam 1363 pertandingan. Bahkan setiap tanggal 19 November para pendukung Santos merayakan “Pele Day” atau “Hari-nya Pele” untuk mengenang gol ke-1000 yang dicetak Pele di Stadion Maracana. Sejak memutuskan pensiun dari sepakbola, Pele yang kini menjabat sebagai duta besar keliling Brasil sering menjadi duta untuk mempromosikan negaranya. Dia juga menjadi duta untuk badan dunia PBB dan UNICEF adalah satu-satunya pemain yang merasakan tiga kali mengangkat tropi Piala Dunia, pemain paling jenuis yang pernah terlahir di muka bumi. dijuluki sebagai pesepakbola paling sempurna. Setiap kali “Selecao” bermain cantik, orang pasti mengidentikannya dengan kehadiran si pemilik No. 10.

Brasil sebagai juara bertahan kali ini memang masih memiliki Pele,Gilmar,Garrincha,Djalma Santo dan Orlando.Tapi pemain muda belum ada yang bisa menggantikan peran Vava dan Didi yang sudah terlalu tua untuk ikut bertanding.
Brasil satu grup dengan Hongaria,Bulgaria dan Portugal.
Brasil berhasil menundukkan Bulgaria 2-0 dengan gol Pele dan Garrincha.Pele cedera karena ditebas bek Bulgaria,Zhechev.
Brasil-Hongaria berakhir 1-3 ,gol Brasil dicetak Tostao.Pele tidak bisa dimainkan dalam pertandingan ini.Ujung tombak Hongaria Florian Albert benar menguasai permainan dan sayap kanan Bene benar-benar merepotkan Brasil.Kekalahan pertama Brasil dalam delapan tahun terakhir.
Kekalahan dari Hongaria,mendorong terjadinya pergantian massal di team Brasil.Pele dimainkan lagi.Namun tujuh pemain diganti serentak.Gilmar,Bellini,Garrincha,Djalma Diaz Santos digantikan pemain lain.Brasil menjadi kurang padu akibat pergantian besar-besaran ini.
Melawan Portugal dalam dua puluh lima menit pertama gawang Brasil yang dijaga Manga telah kebobolan dua kali melalui tembakan Simoes dan Eusebio.Pele dikawal ketat dan kasar oleh pemain belakang Portugal,Morais,sejak awal peluit pertama.Tebasan demi tebasan kasar diterima Pele,akhirnya memaksa harus digotong keluar.Penonton keheranan mengapa “jagal” Morais ini bisa terus memainkan pertandingan.
Amarildo berhasil menipiskan kekalahan namun Eusebio yang memang cemerlang membuat gol lagi sehingga Brasil kalah 1-3 dari Portugal dan masuk kotak.

Final Piala Dunia 1970 merupakan ajang untuk mencetak rekor baru dalam sejarah Piala Dunia. Sudah ditentukan bahwa tim yang juara sebanyak 3 kali akan memegang trofi Jules Rimet selamanya. Brasil dan Italia sama-sama sudah memenangkan Piala Dunia sebanyak dua kali. Jadi, Brasil atau Italia sama-sama berpeluang menyimpan Piala Jules Rimet selamanya.

Ada dua orang yang paling antusias untuk mencetak rekor baru bagi Brasil: Pele dan pelatih Mario Zagalo. Pele merupakan pemain termuda sewaktu Brasil menang pada 1958. Dan Zagalo menjadi pemain Brasil yang ikut dalam tim juara 1958 dan 1962.

Kenyataannya memang tim Brasil yang terbaik. Pele membuat gol pertama melalui sundulan setelah menerima umpan Rivelino. Italia sempat memberikan perlawanan dan menghasilkan gol 28 menit kemudian, tepatnya menit ke-37. Sayangnya, permainan Italia tampak tak berkembang di babak kedua. Sebaliknya, Brasil menunjukkan niat yang kuat untuk memiliki trofi Jules Rimet selamanya. Brasil mencetak 3 gol tambahan dan menguasai Jules Rimet.

Piala Dunia 1958
Dunia 1958 adalah tahunnya Brasil. Tak beruntung di Piala Dunia 1950, tim Samba akhirnya menjadi juara untuk pertama kalinya, gelar yang sudah ditunggu sejak lama.
Eropa kembali mendapat jatah tuan rumah. Setelah Swiss, kali ini Swedia mendapat kehormatan, dua tahun setelah The Father of World Cup, Jules Rimet, wafat pada 16 Oktober 1956 di Paris dalam usia 83 tahun.

Piala Dunia keenam ini juga ditandai rekor negara yang ikut serta, yaitu 55 negara. Babak kualifikasi menghasilkan kejutan saat Belgia, Belanda, Swiss, Spanyol, Uruguay, dan Italia gagal lolos ke putaran final.

Putaran final memberikan kesempatan untuk menyaksikan kekuatan sepak bola baru, seperti Wales, Irlandia Utara, Uni Soviet, dan Swedia.

Keenam belas negara peserta putaran final dibagi dalam empat grup yang terdiri atas empat negara. Untuk pertama kalinya sistem setengah kompetisi diberlakukan, yakni masing-masing negara melakukan tiga pertandingan menghadapi tiga negara lain di grup mereka.

Setelah gagal di dua kesempatan--1950 dan 1954--Brasil mempersiapkan diri dengan sangat serius.

Ditangani Vicente Feola, Brasil memuncaki grup keras--grup 4--yang dihuni Austria (3-0), Inggris (0-0) dan Uni Soviet (2-0).

Dalam pertandingan terakhir menghadapi Uni Soviet, Brasil menurunkan dua pemain anyar, Manuel Fransisco Dos Santos, yang kemudian dikenal dengan Garrincha, serta pemain berusia 17 tahun, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, atau pendeknya, Pele.

Tak ada yang bisa menghentikan langkah Brasil. Wales terbilang paling beruntung. Gawang mereka hanya kebobolan 0-1 di perempat final. Gol tunggal dicetak Pele. Inilah gol pertama Pele di Piala Dunia. Bintang baru telah lahir.

Di semifinal, tak ada lagi yang bisa menghentikan Brasil. Prancis, yang diperkuat Just Fontaine, top scorer dengan 13 gol di Piala Dunia kali ini, disikat 6-3, dan Pele mencetak hat trick.

Sekali lagi Brasil lolos ke final, kali ini lawan tim Samba adalah tuan rumah Swedia.

Ditangani pelatih asal Inggris, George Raynor, Swedia melangkah ke final setelah mengalahkan juara bertahan Jerman Barat (3-1) di semifinal.

Tapi di final, 51.800 penonton yang hadir di Stadion Rasunda, Stockholm--juga Raja Swedia King Gustav Adolf--harus kecewa.

Dalam partai yang kemudian dikenal dengan Mercenaries versus Magicians (Tentara Bayaran versus Pesulap) ini, Brasil--untuk pertama kalinya--tertinggal lebih dulu setelah Swedia mencetak gol lewat Nils Liedholm pada menit ketiga.

Namun, hal itu tak berlangsung lama. Garrincha dua kali menerobos barisan belakang Swedia untuk memberikan umpan matang kepada Vava pada menit kesembilan dan ke-32.

Pada awal babak kedua, Pele mencetak gol pada menit ke-55 sebelum ditambah Mario Zagallo (68). Meski tuan rumah memperkecil skor lewat gol Agne Simonsson (80), Pele memastikan kemenangan Brasil di masa injury time. Skor 5-2 untuk Brasil.

Seusai pertandingan, pendukung Swedia akhirnya memuja Brasil, terutama kepada pemain mudanya, Pele. Raja Gustav bahkan langsung menyalami Pele dan berfoto dengan tim yang mengalahkan negaranya.

Pele, who spent the peak years of his career at Santos, revealed United made their approach in 1968, but he was happy to stay in South America.

"I said no to every team that asked me. Real Madrid was the best team who wanted me. They were a very good team but I didn't want to leave Santos."

Manchester United were wondering about the one that got away last night, after Pele belatedly revealed that he turned down an offer to join the club in the year of their first European Cup success. The most famous sporting icon on the planet claimed he was given the chance to team up with George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton in what would have been the most formidable attacking line-up of any squad in history.

Pele has never spoken publicly before about United's desire to sign him but, 38 years after the club's historic 4-1 defeat of Benfica, he made the revelation during an exclusive interview with the Guardian. The Brazilian began by declaring that he could have joined Juventus, Milan and Real Madrid, as well as a couple of Mexican clubs. Asked if he was tempted by any of these offers, Pele instead exclaimed, "Manchester! I even had a proposal from Manchester United."

"Manchester United? Really?"

"Yes," he replied.

"After the 1970 World Cup?"

"No, 1968 . . . their best team."

Pele went on to say that he turned down United because he wanted to remain in Brazil with Santos. His presence at Old Trafford would have changed the history of English football and turned United into even more of a superpower but he made it clear he had no regrets. "No, no, no. I said no to every team who asked me," he said. "Real Madrid was the best team who wanted me. They were a very good team. But I didn't want to leave Santos."

Mark Whiley, the curator of Manchester United's museum, confirmed last night that the club had spent the last 38 years in the dark. "It's the first we had heard of it," he said. An Old Trafford spokesman added: "There is nothing official in our records but this club has always been looking to attract the best players in the world - and Pele is clearly in that category."

Pele.....Hmmmm emang legendaris nih orang, meski sebetulnya gw ga begitu suka ama nih orang (ga pernah liat doi maen sih, gw lebih seneng ama Maradona), tapi dengan skill dan segudan prestasi yang udah doi buat, emang pantes dia jadi legenda sepakbola dunia

Pele memang hebat, permainan dan skillnya cantik. Kalo ingat Pele, yang terbayang adalah permainan sepakbola klasik yang indah dan menawan. Btw, ada yang punya foto Pele waktu bermain di Gelora Bung Karno Senayan Jakarta saat membela klub Santos Brazil gak ? Klo ada, upload donk..

Pele emang luar biasa... kontribusinya di arena sepakbola khususny bg Brazil layak dikenang sepanjang masa... tapi ada satu yg kurang, kenapa ya beliau ini nggak berani jd pelatih baik itu di klub atw timnas...
kan seru tuh klo Brazil vs Argentina pelatihnya adalah Pele vs Maradona...

Pemain bola yang pensiun dan tidak menjadi pelatih kayaknya bakal lebih melegenda deh. Soalnya kalau setelah pensiun jadi pelatih dan terus gagal, prestasinya saat menjadi pemain biasanya tidak dihargai dan malah dianggap tidak berbakat melatih serta nama besarnya saat menjadi pemain ikut tercoreng. Jalan terbaik bagi pemain yang sudah melegenda adalah tidak menjadi pelatih namun memberi dukungan dan support kepada mantan timnya, seperti penasehat atau pencari bakat. Mungkin itu yang jadi pertimbangan Pele...Meski begitu, Pele dan Maradona sama-sama hebat kok ! Bedanya sifat kepribadian Pele jauh lebih baik dari Maradona.

Lagi browsing internet, eh ketemu foto Pele waktu bermain di Senayan tahun 1970an. Dalam foto ini Pele tampak bertukar kaos dengan Jacop Sihasale. Kira-kira kaosnya masih disimpan gak yach sampai sekarang ?

Pele: Piala Dunia 2014 Bisa Mundur!

Bola.net - Banyaknya penundaan dan belum dimulainya pekerjaan Brazil sebagai tuan rumah menyongsong Piala Dunia 2014 membuat acara itu akan menghadapi "lampu merah" saat waktunya tiba, kata pemain legenda, Pele, Jumat.

"Kami amat khawatir," katanya dalam jumpa pers di Sao Paulo, berbicara untuk Konfederasi Sepak Bola Brazil dan FIFA.

"Saya kira Brazil sedang menempuh resiko pada persiapan Piala Dunia mendatang, utamanya dalam hal komunikasi dan bandar udara," katanya.

Komentar mantan pemain kondang Brazil itu berdasar kenyataan mandeg dan belum dimulainya pekerjaan di semua 12 stadion negara itu yang disiapkan sebagai tempat pertandingan.

Masalah bandara udara di Brazil juga amat memprihatinkan, selalu ada penundaan dan pembatalan penerbangan setiap hari.

"Brazil memiliki tugas menyelenggarakan Piala Dunia dengan baik. Tapi sayangnya, semua berada di luar jadwal," kata Pele, memberi contoh Sao Paulo, yang belum memiliki stadion berstandar Piala Dunia.

"Padahal Anda tahu, kita sudah berkeliling ke mana-mana untuk mencari dukungan menjadi tuan rumah Olimpiade 2016 serta Piala Dunia 2014. Sekarang sudah tiba saatnya, tetapi malah amat mengkhawatirkan bagi setiap orang," kata Pele.

Pele mengatakan, ia sudah berbicara dengan berbagai personil di FIFA dan ternyata semua orang amat mengkhawatirkan tentang persiapan Brazil.

Pekerjaan semuanya di luar jadwal yang sudah disusun dan beberapa stadion bahkan belum tersentuh dengan perbaikan dan pembangunan, termasuk kandang divisi satu Corintihans yang dipilih Sao Paulo sebagai tempat pertandingan.

"Brazil memiliki tugas untuk menyelenggarakan Piala Dunia yang baik, administrasi yang baik. Tetapi amat menyedihkan semua belum disentuh termasuk Sao Paulo yang kontroversi itu," kata Pele yang kini berusia 70 tahun.

"Kejuaraan Paulista merupakan icon sepak bola Brazil, itu pun belum tertata dengan baik," katanya tentang kejuaraan nasional di negara itu.

Sao Paulo akan menyelenggarakan pertandingan pembuka Piala Dunia, menurut panitia penyelenggara, tetapi belum jelas bagaimana Corinthians akan meluaskan stadion mereka menjadi berkapasitas 60.000 tempat duduk seperti persyaratan FIFA.

Pele says Platini might seek FIFA presidency

UEFA President Michel Platini might run against Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency, Brazilian soccer great Pele said Thursday.

"Maybe Platini will run for that," Pele said at a breakfast organized by the American chamber of commerce in Singapore. "Platini is already president of UEFA. It's a good opportunity."

Platini and Mohamed Bin Hammam, a Qatari who leads the Asian Football Confederation, are considered the two strongest potential candidates to take on Blatter, who is seeking election to a fourth four-year term on June 1 as head of soccer's world governing body. Neither Platini nor Hammam have said they are seeking the post.

Pele said he didn't want to be FIFA president.

Blatter's leadership came under criticism after FIFA last year selected Russia to host the 2018 World Cup and Qatar for 2022.

"They say there was a little controversy about buying votes, but I wasn't there," said the 70-year-old Pele, who serves on FIFA's Football Committee with other retired stars such as Frank Beckenbauer, Bobby Charlton and George Weah.

"We won very clean for the World Cup in Brazil but this World Cup (selection) I think there was a big problem there."

Brazil will be hosting the 2014 World Cup, but Pele reiterated concerns that the building of the infrastructure for the tournament is behind schedule.

"We have a little problem with construction, communication, airports," Pele said. "We have some political problems, which makes it a little complicated to do construction. Even in Sao Paulo, they haven't started the stadium because they have a political problem. This is not good for us."

Pele was in Asia to promote the rebirth of the New York Cosmos, the team he played for in the 1970s. Pele is honorary president of the Cosmos, who plan to begin play in 2014.

Hong Kong - Pele prihatin dengan makin meroketnya gaji para pemain sepakbola dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Legenda asal Brasil ini menyebut uang bisa menggiring sepakbola ke dalam bahaya.

Dalam sebuah acara promosi klub New York Cosmos di Hong Kong, Pele menyoroti banyaknya para pemain yang mengejar gaji besar kemudian 'menghilang' dengan durasi karier yang pendek. Pria 70 tahun ini juga kecewa dengan para agen pemain yang terlalu mengejar keuntungan.

"Para pemain tak boleh lupa untuk merumput demi kecintaannya terhadap permainan," cetusnya, seperti dikutip Soccernet.

"Pemain lebih mencintai siapa pun yang membayar mereka, itu adalah bahaya buat sepakbola," imbuh pemenang tiga Piala Dunia bersama Selecao itu.

"Kadang-kadang saya menggoda pemain dan bilang 'Anda mendapatkan dalam tempo satu tahun apa yang saya peroleh dalam sepuluh tahun'," tambah Pele.

Pele makes NY Cosmos intentions clear

Soccer legend Pele has made the intentions of reformed franchise New York Cosmos extremely clear.

The former Brazil superstar is heavily involved in the second coming of the club who were significant in USA soccer back in the 1970s.

Now, Pele and the rest of the assemble cast which has been put together are looking to move into MLS within two years time and the former Cosmos player is excited about the prospect.

“We are back with the Cosmos and it is a new challenge – we hope to join Major League Soccer in 2013,” he said.

“It is also something different for me. On the field, I always knew what to do. But as Honorary President, I don’t know what to do yet!”

And Pele, who was at the forefront of the club when they were at their peak, says being able to continue working with the sport is basically a dream come true for him.

“Football has given me this opportunity to travel and to make friends all over the world,” he added. “I’m lucky in that no matter where I go, I always seem to have a job!”

SANTOS – Rumor ketertarikan AC Milan terhadap playmaker Santos Ganso membuat legenda Brasil Pele ikut berkomentar. Pele berniat membujuk Ganso untuk tetap bertahan bersama Santos.

'There is a big difference between Barcelona's Messi and Argentina's Messi,' he continued. 'When Messi plays in the Seleccion he is not the same player.'

Hal ini diungkapkan Pele usai menyaksikan penampilan klubnya di final Copa Libertadores, Kamis, 23 Juni 2011. Dalam duel yang sempat diwarnai perkelahian antar pemain ini, Santos berhasil mengalahkan Penarol dengan skor 2-1.

"Messi ingin lebih baik dari Pele? Untuk sampai ke sana, dia harus mampu mencetak lebih dari 1283 gol," kata Pele seperti dilansir Goal.com.

Pada kesempatan yang sama, Pele telah yang merasakan tiga gelar juara dunia menyerang balik legenda sepakbola asal Argentina, Diego Maradona. Sebelumnya, Maradona menyebut sikap Neymar sama buruknya dengan Pele.

Pernyataan ini dilontarkan Maradona setelah Neymar yang menyatakan kalau dirinya mampu lebih baik dari Messi tanpa harus pindah ke Eropa. Neymar adalah pemain masa depan Brasil yang bermain untuk klub Santos.

"Neymar merupakan pemain bertalenta. Saya harap Neymar tidak berakhir seperti Messi yang mampu tampil baik bagi klubnya Barcelona, namun tak mampu berbuat apapun bagi negaranya (Argentina)," balas Pele.

LONDON — It was a case of No 10 at No 10 when Brazil great Pele turned up at the official residence of the British Prime Minister on Wednesday to help promote a youth football programme.

Pele, who wore the No 10 shirt for the bulk of an international career where he was a key member of three Brazil World Cup-winning teams, was at No 10 Downing Street to meet youngsters who are taking part in Street League, a charity which aims to help young people gain qualifications, find jobs and stay away from crime.

The 70-year-old Pele was on hand to watch a kickabout in the Downing Street garden and afterwards he told reporters: "I'm proud to be here, it's fantastic. I'm very honoured.

"In Brazil, we start playing football in the street, so to support the kids here is great.

"Many kids from the street see the game of football and they turn away from the drugs and from the bad scene, which is very important."

Street League's Marco Dejesus, 19, from Tulse Hill, south London, spoke to Pele in the footballer's native Portuguese.

"Meeting him was fantastic, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and something I can tell my grandchildren," Dejesus said.

"I had a little conversation with him in Portuguese -- both my parents are from Madeira.

"He gave me a big hug and was happy I spoke the language.

"He's a huge hero of anyone who plays football. He's the world's greatest."

Pele, an ambassador for his former club the New York Cosmos, is in Britain to attend the American side's match with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Friday that will mark Red Devils' midfielder Paul Scholes's testimonial.

Brazil will stage the next World Cup in 2014.

Fans of Lionel Messi point to Sergio Ramos' unsavory tackle and Tomáš Ujfaluši's late tackle, but that's nothing compared to what Pelé had to endure.

During the 1966 FIFA World Cup, the Bulgarians and Portuguese took turns to hack Pelé, and what about João Morais inflicting two of the most brutal fouls in one play on Pelé?

The tackle from behind was considered fair game, and at times assault was a more accurate description than contesting during Pelé's time.

Battle of Santiago ring any bells? It prompted the invention of yellow and red cards.

Yellow and red cards were not introduced until the 1970 FIFA World Cup, and were not mandatory until 1982.

The open wounds of the 1966 World Cup still haunt Pelé, and he vowed never to play at a World Cup again because he was so emotionally and physically wrecked.

Messi will never have to deal with the violent fouls Pelé suffered, and if there is anyone emulating a Morais on Messi, that person will be villified for the rest of his career.

Back in Pelé's days, it was called defending.

2. Pelé Won Three FIFA World Cups

Pelé won two FIFA World Cups, not three.

He sat the large majority of 1962 FIFA World Cup out because of injury.

To say Pelé won the 1962 World Cup is an insult to the legacy of Garrincha, who single-handedly won Brazil the World Cup.

Twenty-four years later, Diego Maradona would do the same, and there hasn't been a player since, not even Lionel Messi during the 2010 World Cup.

1. Pelé Won Everything on His Own

Well, he didn't in 1962.

This misconception is fostered more out of ignorance.

It doesn't hurt to polish up on some football history, and just because you've seen the magic of Andrés Iniesta and Xavi coupled by an inability to recognise the large majority—if not all of Pelé's teammates—it doesn't mean he played with a bunch of ragtag footballers from the slums of Rio.

Between 1958-1970, Pelé's teammates contributed to 33 per cent of the FIFA World Cup All-Star XI. If you disregard the 1966 World Cup, then it goes up to 45 per cent.

In the World XI of the 20th Century, three were Pelé's teammates.

In World Soccer's 100 Greatest Players of the 20th Century, six were Pelé's teammates.

Pelé was the star in an incredibly gifted and talented Brazilian team.

Do not undervalue Pelé's teammates, because they were some of the greatest players to have ever graced the game.

Pele Bersiap Untuk Comeback ke Lapangan

Bola.net - Harapan Santos untuk melihat Pele kembali merumput semakin dekat dengan kenyataan. Legenda Brasil ini setuju untuk mulai menjalani latihan guna persiapan aksi comeback-nya ke lapangan hijau dengan mengenakan seragam Santos di ajang Piala Dunia Antar Klub bulan Desember mendatang.

Perwakilan dari klub Santos ini sebelumnya sudah menemui Pele dan menginginkan pria berusia 70 tahun ini untuk tampil di Jepang, tempat digelarnya ajang tahunan tersebut. Saat itu Pele dengan tegas menolak tawaran Santos, tetapi seiring dengan berjalannya waktu, Pele dikabarkan mengubah keputusannya dan bersedia tampil bersama di ajang Piala Dunia Antar klub nanti.

"Pele sudah setuju dan berjanji untuk berlatih untuk bisa kembali ke kondisi fit dan jika memungkinkan, tampil untuk beberapa menit," ucap Presiden Santos, Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro kepada Radio Globo.

"Saya sudah berbicara dengan pelatih Muricy Ramalho, dan dia juga tidak merasa keberatan dengan rencana ini. Sekarang segala sesuatunya tergantung kepada Pele sendiri. Rencananya dia akan kembali bermain dengan mengenakan jersey nomor 10," imbuhnya.

Pele sebelumnya pernah dua kali merasakan gelar juara di ajang Piala Dunia Antar Klub, saat kompetisi itu masih bernama Intercontinental Cup. Saat itu Pele memimpin Santos menjuarai ajang tersebut di tahun 1962 dan 1963. (glob/mac)

Pele inches closer to playing for Santos in Club World Cup

Last year, a great short film was made about a then 69-year-old Pele coming out of retirement in an effort to score one last goal for the Brazilian national team. The current president of Pele's former club, Santos, might have taken that surreal film a little more seriously than most, because he's doing everything in his power to get Pele to play for the Copa Libertadores winners in the Club World Cup this December.

When Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro first floated the idea of putting Pele on the team, it sounded like a joke and an over-the-top marketing ploy. Now it's a joke and an over-the-top marketing ploy that's quite close to actually happening.

Pelé, who inspired Santos to their only previous Copa Libertadores triumphs, will now be contacted once more by Ribeiro, with his agreement the only obstacle between Pelé and the tournament in Japan.

However, Ribeiro is confident of the legend's participation based on their previous conversations.

"Pele was positive and promised to 'train to get fit and participate in a few minutes', if possible," said the President talking to Radio Globo.

"I have talked to Muricy. Now the only stumbling block is Pelé. He will be registered with the number 10 shirt."

Earlier, in a separate interview with Globe Esporte, Ribeiro had explained his reasoning.

"At the time of my speech [in the board meeting], it struck me that Pele was a three time World Champion (1958, 62 and 70) with the national team, but only twice with Santos (62 and 63 - Intercontinental Cup).

"Now, 48 years later, he will have the opportunity to be a three time World Champion at club level also, as part of the Santos team."

In practical terms, giving a valuable roster spot to a septuagenarian is completely ridiculous. But in every other way it's pretty awesome. The Club World Cup is an afterthought as it is, so if a 70-year-old legend trying to run around for a few minutes brings far more attention to the tournament (and it will), then the positives outweigh the momentary silliness. Plus, it's Pele! I'm pretty sure international laws are in place to allow Pele to do whatever he wants for the rest of his days, up to and including a wide variety of trespassing offenses.

Pele juga menyempatkan diri untuk memuji skuad Brasil yang disebutnya banyak mempunyai talenta hebat.

"Brasil mempunyai banyak pemain hebat, hanya butuh sedikit waktu untuk menyatukan mereka, karena pada dasarnya kami bisa membuat 5 tim kelas dunia," pungkasnya.

Pele Kunjungi Sekolah Korban Tsunami Jepang

Bola.net - Legenda hidup sepak bola Brasil, Pele, mengunjungi sebuah sekolah dasar di Jepang, yang terkena dampak tsunami, Senin (17/10).

Pada kesempatan tersebut, Pele ingin memberi dorongan semangat pada masyarakat yang terkena tsunami untuk membangun kembali hidup mereka, setelah tertimpa bencana.

"Saya datang untuk mengantarkan kata-kata pembangkit semangat, sebagai perwakilan masyarakat Brazil," kata Pele di Sekolah Dasar Fujigaoka yang terletak di Natori, prefektur Miyagi, seperti dilaporkan kantor berita Kyodo.

Ia memberikan tanda tangan serta bola kepada anak-anak dan membawa bantuan seperti selimut, yang diberikan oleh perusahaan Brazil untuk masyarakat di area tersebut.

Pele mendatangi Jepang sebagai bagian dari promosi Piala Dunia 2014 yang akan diselenggarakan di Brazil.

Daerah Timur Laut Jepang telah dihancurkan oleh gempa bumi dan tsunami pada 11 Maret silam. Bencana ini membuat sekitar 20.000 orang meninggal dunia atau hilang.

Bencana alam tersebut juga memicu kebocoran dan kerusakan instalasi nuklir di Fukushima Daiichi, 90 Kilometer sebelah Selatan dari sekolah tersebut. (afp/lex)

Messi has reportedly said he’s never seen Pele play. Pele, being Pele, cannot allow this to stand, and has vowed to send Messi a copy of the 2004 documentary Pele Eterno (Pele Forever), which includes footage of the Brazilian from his playing days.

“It is a normal thing when a player is compared to a player from another time period, sometimes he is not interested in the comparison,” Pele told Globoesporte.

“If he really did not see me, I’ll do what I once did with Maradona: I’ll send him the video ‘Pelé Eterno’ and then he will.”

That’ll teach Messi to be uninterested in comparison to a player who retired ten years before he was born. Now he’s going to get unsolicited videos in the mail, which he’ll probably have to have his housekeeper throw in the trash. How annoying.

Soccer legend Pele coming to Indonesia

Brazilian soccer legend Pele will visit Indonesia next month, says Brazilian Ambassador to Indonesia Paulo Alberto da silveira Soares.

"I will ask Pele to join me in Bali during the ASEAN Summit in November,” Ambassador Paulo said on Wednesday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

The ASEAN Summit, which will be attended by ASEAN leaders, will take place from Nov.14 - 19 in Bali.

Paulo says he also plans to invite another soccer star, Ronaldo, who used to play for Barcelona and Inter Milan, to participate and coach in a soccer clinic next year.

“Hopefully, their visits to Indonesia will help promote Brazil, which will host the 2014 World Cup,” he said.

Bola.net - Pele legenda hidup Brasil itu baru saja merayakan ulang tahunnya yang ke-71, dalam komentarnya ia sempat berbicara tentang Messi, Neymar dan juga EPL.

Menurut pria yang memiliki hubungan kurang baik dengan legenda lain Diego Maradona itu Liga Premier Inggris adalah kompetisi terbaik dunia untuk periode saat ini.

Pele is best known for being the Babe Ruth of world football. But in recent years, the Brazilian soccer legend has become nearly as well known for his outrageous comments.

Time to add another to the list.

Celebrating his 71st birthday in London this week as his soccer brand, Pele Sports, launches a new cleat, Pele took the opportunity to offer a backhanded compliment/criticism of Argentina and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

"I would love to play with Lionel Messi,” Pele told the press at the event. “But Messi is an incomplete player because he can't use his head."

How dare you question the two-time reigning FIFPro World Player of the Year? How dare you find fault with the man who’s scored 154 goals in his last 174 games for Barcelona (including a ridiculous 75 in his last 77 La Liga matches)? How dare you question a player who’s already led his club side to three Champions League titles before turning 24?

And OK, maybe the Argentina national stands just 5’6½”, and he’s not exactly Miroslav Klose in the air, but it’s not like he can’t score with his head:

But the birthday boy didn’t stop there in his critiquing:

"Also I played football for 20 years,” Pele continued. “Messi has only played for several years."

Come on, Pele! OK, Neymar is fun to watch...and he's Brazilian like him. But why so harsh on Leo?

Pundits and fans alike are constantly making comparisons between Pele, Diego Maradona and now Messi, so they must all get sick of being asked about each other, right?

It would seem so, even for the typically humble Messi, who has said multiple times that he’s never seen Pele play.

But as Kckrs.com’s Jason Davis suggests:

Brazil legend Pele believes Lionel Messi is the undisputed No. 1 footballer in the world at present, but has high hopes for Santos star Neymar.

Messi, 24, has been named World Player of the Year for the past two years having starred for Barcelona, recently climbing to second on the club's list of all-time leading goalscorer.

And Pele, widely recognised as the greatest player to have ever graced the game, has "no doubt" that the Argentina ace sits alone at the top of world football at the moment.

"Today there is no doubt Messi, he is the best player today," Pele told ESPNsoccernet. "I don't see any player who is better."

While Argentina can boast Messi and Diego Maradona as two of the best players of all time, Brazil has plenty of candidates of its own, with Pele of course leading the way.

And the former Santos and New York Cosmos striker is excited about the latest talent to come off Brazil's enviable player production line, teenage forward Neymar.

Asked whether the youngster can become the world's best, Pele told ESPNsoccernet: "Maybe Neymar is too young to be the best just yet. Messi has been around for a few years, while Neymar it has been just one and a half, two years.

"However, already there is no doubt that Neymar is one excellent player, very skilful, very dangerous, very intelligent. He needs more experience, a little more time, right now he needs a little more of a base.

"He has a good future but to be the best we have to wait a little bit because he has only played for one year, one year and half, though already the expectations are there."

Speculation has been rife for more than a year now that Neymar will move from Santos and become the costliest teenager in football history, with Barcelona and Real Madrid ready to pay €40 million to secure his services.

But Pele, who has been advising Neymar, insists the wonder-kid will be at his hometown club a little longer.

"I expect him to stay with Santos longer," Pele said. "At the moment we have a very important tournament, the Club World Cup, and this is a very important tournament for our club and for this player. This will give to him a lot of experience, this is important to him."

Brazil legend Pele believes Neymar will one day be spoken in the same breath as the likes of Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona.

The Santos striker is one of the hottest prospect in world football and has attracted the interest of big clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona.

At just 19, Neymar is tipped for greatness.

And Pele has no doubt he will be the next big thing coming from Brazil.

"They [Argentina] talk about Maradona and Messi, but we have Neymar, who will be a great player with the skills he has," he told Globo.

"Santos are a factory which produces stars, they produce players without spending anything. These are good times for the club."

Amidst all the praise, Pele also provided some advice on Neymar's game.

"I am not thinking about getting into fights, but to learn how to defend himself," Pele noted. "I have always told this to Neymar whenever I have met him.

"He is very skilled, the best on his team, so of course he will receive special marking and he must learn how to defend himself."

BRAZILIAN legend Pele would love to roll back the years and pick Neymar over Lionel Messi as his strike partner.

World Cup hero Pele reckons Santos star Neymar has all the attributes to become one of the best players on the planet.

The 19-year-old striker has already been linked with a host of top clubs, including Real Madrid and Chelsea, and has now been given a personal seal of approval by his fellow countryman.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand's digital publication #5Magazine, Pele said: "Neymar is a good player. He has played for just one year but is known all over the world.

"He needs a little more experience, more strength, but is an excellent player. He has great vision, technical with the ball at both feet."

The respect Pele has for Neymar's potential is clearly beyond doubt, but would he really overlook Messi?

He added: "Neymar, because I've seen him play in Brazil a lot.
