Bryan Robson OBE (born 11 January 1957) is an English former football manager and a former player. He is best known for playing in midfield for Manchester United, where he was the longest serving captain in club history. He is the former manager of Sheffield United after being relieved of his first team duties in February 2008. The following month, Robson returned to Manchester United as an ambassador for the club.
Born in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, Robson began his playing career at West Bromwich Albion, before moving on to Manchester United, whom he captained to three FA Cups and a European Cup Winners' Cup. He also won two FA Premiership winners medals. Towards the end of his playing career he moved into management as player-manager with Middlesbrough. Robson had a good goal-scoring record, tackled and passed well and was also a good header of the ball.[citation needed] He represented England on 90 occasions, making him the sixth most capped England player of all-time,[1] and has the eleventh highest goalscoring tally with 26. Robson captained his country 65 times; only Bobby Moore and Billy Wright have captained England on more occasions. Robson is also known by the nicknames 'Robbo' and 'Captain Marvel'.
Robson began his management career with Middlesbrough in 1994, although he did not retire from playing until 1997. In seven years as Middlesbrough manager, he guided them to three Wembley finals, which they all lost, and earned them promotion to the Premier League on two occasions. He later returned to West Bromwich Albion for two years as manager, helping them become the first top division team in 14 years to avoid relegation after being bottom of the league table on Christmas Day. Less successful have been his short-lived spells as manager of Bradford City and Sheffield United, the former lasting barely six months and ending in relegation from what is now the Football League Championship, and the latter lasting less than a year and seeing his expensively-assembled side fail to challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

Bryan Robson may replace Peter Reid as Thailand boss
By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER
Last updated at 2:05 AM on 11th September 2009
Bryan Robson is in talks with Thailand to become their new national boss, replacing fellow former England midfielder Peter Reid.
Thailand rejected Reid's proposal to stay as national coach while working at Stoke City, where he has become assistant manager.
The former Manchester United captain, who has been linked with the NIgeria job in the past, would have the brief of taking Thailand to the 2014 World Cup finals.
Reid's target had been similar - qualification for 2010 - but he failed as Thailand suffered a dismal campaign.
'We're still in negotiation, but he is interested and we are interested,' said Thai Football Association president Worawi Makudi.
Robson has managerial experience with Middlesbrough, Bradford City, West Bromwich Albion and most recently, Sheffield United, whom he quit in February 2008.
But his recent football involvement has only consisted of ambassodorial work for Manchester United. Since March last year, he began working alongside Bobby Charlton to promote United's 'commercial and charitable' aims.
Reid's contract was terminated on Thursday by mutual consent.
The split was said to be amicable although Thailand were disappointed to lose Reid, while the new Stoke assistant boss was similarly reluctant to leave.
Thailand assistant coach Steve Darby remains in charge at least until talks with Robson and other candidates are concluded.
Caretaker boss Darby has previously worked as in a development role for Australia.

It was a fitting climax to United's 1992/93 FA Premier League championship season when Bryan Robson scored the campaign's last goal to clinch a 2-1 victory against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park.
Six days earlier 'Captain Marvel' had jointly accepted the FA Premier League trophy with Steve Bruce as the curtain came down on an Old Trafford season in which a 26-year wait for the game's ultimate domestic honour was finally over.
Back and hamstring problems had blighted Robson's season, but in typical fashion he fought bravely to reclaim his place. Indeed, various injuries plagued so much of his
remarkable career for club and country, that it was laughably suggested at times by the media that he should ease up! For such a fiercely committed and courageous player it was perhaps just an inevitable price that had to be paid.
In his early days with West Bromwich Albion, three leg breaks inside a year threatened his future, but with great determination he somehow made a complete recovery.
He had appeared in close on 200 league games for the Baggies, scoring 39 goals, when new United boss Ron Atkinson returned to his former club and paid a joint fee of around £2 million to bring both Robson and Remi Moses to Old Trafford in October 1981. The deal rated 'Robbo' at a then-record £1.5 million.
Some doubted Atkinson's wisdom, but Robson was destined to become one of the game's midfield greats. He quickly grew in stature, replacing Ray Wilkins as club captain, a player with whom he enjoyed such a fine understanding and one who helped develop Bryan's already mature reading of the game.
A supreme motivational force, Robson in his prime was a shining diamond, blessed with a seemingly endless supply of stamina, great creative passing skills in attack or defence, controlled
aggression in the tackle, plus the added bonus of genuine pace and powerful shooting and heading ability.
Robson scored well over a century of league goals in his career – many from steaming late blind side runs into the area. But perhaps above all, he was an inspiring captain for both club and country, uniquely leading United to a hat-trick of FA Cup wins in 1983,1985 and 1990. In the 1983 final against Brighton and Hove Albion he scored twice in the 4-0 replay victory.
He was a League Cup finalist in 1991 and collected a prized European medal when he lifted the Cup Winners' Cup in the same season.
Robson won 90 caps for England, wearing the Three Lions in three World Cups. His 26 international goals included a hat-trick against Turkey in 1984, and a strike afer just 27 seconds against France in the 1982 World Cup, which was the second-fastest goal of the tournament’s final stages.
In his final two seasons Robson started only 15 Premiership matches, but usually made a telling contribution when called upon and could hardly have ended his illustrious career on a more satisfying note than seeing United complete the coveted League and Cup Double in 1994.
An early recruit by England's new manager Terry Venables as coach and right-hand man, Robson was quickly snapped up on a lucrative contract by Middlesbrough when he announced his impending exit from Old Trafford. After seven seasons there as manager in June 2001, and following a relegation battle, Robson left in June 2001.
He later resurfaced with his first club, West Bromwich Albion with whom he completed a remarkable escape from Premiership relegation in 2004/05 – becoming the first boss to lead a team bottom at Christmas to safety in the Premiership’s short history.
However, a year later the Baggies dropped down to the Championship. They were favourites to win promotion back to the Premiership at the first attempt, but after taking only twelve points from their first eight games, Robson left the club by mutual consent on 18 September 2006.

Agar ke Piala Dunia 2014, Thailand Incar Robson Jadi Pelatih
http://www.kompas.com/data/photo/2009/06/25/1430224p.jpg
BANGKOK, KOMPAS.com - Asosiasi Sepak Bola Thailand terus berupaya meningkatkan kualitas permainan tim nasionalnya.
Mantan kapten Inggris Bryan Robson menjadi incaran.
Sedangkan bersama timnas Inggris, Robson 99 kali tampil, termasuk ketika memperkuat "The Three Lions" di tiga Piala Dunia.

BANGKOK - Timnas Thailand baru saja ditinggal pelatih asal Inggris Peter Reid.

Profesional donk PSSI !!!

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson signs four-year deal to take charge of Thailand
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/10/06/article-1218483-068A32B9000005DC-260_468x369.jpg
Former England and Manchester United captain Bryan Robson will begin work as Thailand coach next week after signing a four-year contract.
The 52-year-old replaces Peter Reid, who left last month to become assistant coach at Stoke, and will arrive in Bangkok next Thursday before beginning work the following day.
Robson's first task will be to guide Thailand to a place in the Asian Cup finals in Qatar in 2011, starting with home and away games against Singapore next month.
Robson's previous managerial experience has included spells at Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Bradford and West Brom and Thai FA president Worawi Makudi is confident he is capable of continuing the successful work started by Reid.
'I studied his profile before I decided to approach him to become Thailand's national coach,' Worawi said in the Bangkok Post.
'He helped Middlesbrough reach the FA Cup and the League Cup finals. He was England's assistant coach during the European Championship in 1996 when England lost to Germany on penalties in the semi-finals.
'I'd like Thai fans to give him a chance to prove his ability.'

Bryan Robson: Manchester United's squad depth gives them title edge over Chelsea
-mirrorfootball.co.uk-
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/match-centre/article167345.ece/ALTERNATES/gallery-large/Bryan+Robson.jpeg
Bryan Robson believes Manchester United's superior squad strength will ultimately give them the edge over Chelsea in the title race.
Sir Alex Ferguson's back-four has been decimated for tonight's Champions League tie in Wolfsburg, with the United boss missing 10 defenders for the game that will decide who wins Group B.
United's personnel has been stretched to the limit without Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Jonny Evans and the Da Silva twins, as well as long-term absentee Owen Hargreaves.
Midfielders Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick are set to play in central defence, with winger Antonio Valencia at right-back and Patrice Evra - the only recognised fit defender at Fergie's disposal - in his usual left-back role.
But former United skipper Robson believes such versatility will give United a crucial advantage over Chelsea - particularly when Carlo Ancelotti loses key players like Didier Drogba and Michael Essien to the African Nations Cup in January.
"It's the adaptability of some of the United players that's the key," said Robson. "You saw at West Ham when Carrick had to play centre-half, he looked like he could play there.
"He reads the game well and is a good passer of the ball. We've always known at United that Fletcher could play anywhere and not let you down, so there's a flexibility about the squad.
"If you're a centre-half and go into midfield then there's a big difference because suddenly you have your back to the play. But with the defensive qualities of Carrick and Fletcher – who I think could play centre-half as well as right-back - it won't really be a problem."
Chelsea's 2-1 defeat at Manchester City at the weekend saw their lead over United cut to two points, and looks to have dashed Ancelotti's hopes of building a significant advantage before losing key figures like Drogba and Essien next month.
As such, Robson has backed United to win an historic fourth successive title and record-breaking 19th in all, beating arch rivals Liverpool's long-standing record.
"There's a long way to go but United are right where they want to be at the moment, especially with the fixtures they have coming up," said Robson.
"The key question is how much Chelsea are going to be affected by the African Nations Cup.
"They'll probably have four players away but Drogba and Essien are big, big players for them.
"Drogba is a big influence on Chelsea and so if the Ivory Coast do well in that competition, he'll be missed.
"It's always the same in any season – you get to Christmas and you look at where you are. After the weekend, Alex must be quite pleased with where he is.
"Starting with Aston Villa at the weekend – which is going to be perhaps the toughest game – the fixtures look pretty good over the next seven or eight matches.
"You could see United, after winning their last two away games, putting in a pretty good run going into the New Year.
"Over the last two years United have shown they're a strong squad and the young ones who are developing will become even better as they're coming through.
"United don’t have to prove the character of the squad, they've proved that over many seasons.
"They have won the title three times on the belt and you can already see the desire to win it a fourth time.
"Just looking at the fixtures it wouldn't surprise me if they were top by the time they play at Arsenal on January 31."
And asked if he would rather have Wayne Rooney or Drogba leading his attack, Robson was unequivocal. "Rooney every day," he said. "For his work rate, his mentality, his toughness.
"I'm not going to knock Drogba, he's a top player and most managers would want him in the team. In fact, I’d like both of them but if I had to pick one, it would be Wayne.
"He could set all kinds of records if he steers clear of injury. He's a young lad and when you're young you find you don’t get as many injuries.
"But the wear and tear of twisting and tackling makes you that bit more susceptible to injury as you get older."
United's defensive crisis is so drastic that Oliver Gill, son of Old Trafford chief executive David, has been drafted into the squad for tonight's final group game.
Gill, an 19-year-old central defender who only signed a professional terms with United in July, joined more unfamilar names in Magnus Eikrem, Cameron Stewart, Matt James and Oliver Norwood in the United squad.
Robson has watched Gill's development through the ranks at United and has been impressed with what he has seen. "He played with my son Ben at Manchester Grammar," said Robson.
"He looked a good player because he was two years younger than the teams he was playing in.
"Manchester Grammar used him in big cup games and he looked a decent player there, although when I saw him he mostly played in midfield."

Bryan Robson wants to see a goalscoring midfielder at Manchester United
-goal.com-
http://www.sport.co.uk/public/images_features/Robson%20Bryan.jpg
Legend would like a 'Gerrard or Lampard' type at Old Trafford...
Former Manchester United midfielder Bryan Robson is keen to see Sir Alex Ferguson add a few more new players to his squad before the beginning of the new Premier League season.
Robson in particular would like to see more goalscoring threat added to the Red Devils' midfield.
“Personally, I'd like to see the boss sign another couple of players," Robson, who is with the club on their pre-season tour of North America in his role as an ambassador, told United's official website.
"It would be great if we could bring in a goalscoring midfielder. You look at the likes of [Steven] Gerrard and [Frank] Lampard, who contribute so many goals from midfield, and I think that's an area we need to improve on.
“Also, having lost [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Carlos] Tevez last year I think one more striker would be a good addition as well, although [Javier] Hernandez certainly looked promising at the World Cup.
"He didn't get a lot of time on the pitch, but he showed good movement, nice touches and clearly has an eye for goal.”
The former England midfielder also insists that the United players will be keener than ever to begin the season and attempt to wrest the Premier League title back from Chelsea.
"After losing out in the big competitions the lads will be more determined than ever this time round," he added.
"It's a long summer when you've lost two big trophies and they’ll be desperate to get going again."

"Ferguson Harus Beli Striker"
http://i.okezone.com/content/2010/07/15/45/353402/alg1OfBJH2.jpg
MANCHESTER - Bryan Robson melayangkan saran pada pelatih Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson. Mantan kapten tim Setan Merah ingin melihat seorang striker baru mendarat di Old Tarfford.
(far)

Indonesia Bikin Robson 'Keder'
Narayana Mahendra Prastya - detiksport

The adventures of Captain Marvel
Soccernet, John Duerden - September 23, 2010
Bryan Robson looks like he could still do a job on the pitch. Now 53, the manager of Thailand strolls into a Bangkok hotel located a few miles east of his downtown home where all the action is in this vibrant city.
All-action describes the playing style of the former Manchester United and England captain nicely, but now Robson is enjoying a different pace of life literally thousands of miles away from the hurly-burly of the English game.
"You miss the everyday banter around a football club but I've been in it for so many years," he tells ESPNsoccernet. "And then I sit back and think that an international manager's job is near enough part-time compared to a club manager. You have time to see your family. You are not going in at six every morning to be first to the training ground and plan training for the day. A lot of the time, your main goal is to be organised for what is coming up and then go scouting, and scouting is a nice job."
It was the only part of his job affected by the 'Red Shirts' protests in Bangkok earlier this year. Managing Middlesbrough, West Bromich Albion, Bradford City and Sheffield United may be challenging, but lengthy occupation of city centres and exchanges of gunfire with the military are not usually involved. Downtown Bangkok and the Thai government alike were paralysed for weeks to give the Englishman a reminder, if he needed one, that he was far from home.
The decision to come so far east wasn't taken lightly, but the fact that he would become the third ex-England international from the '80s to occupy the Bangkok hotseat in the past decade helped. The Peters of Withe and Reid were here first, with Robson succeeding the latter a year ago.
"I had about three lunches with Reidy when I was approached, so I got quite a lot of information about the place before I accepted. I really enjoyed working part-time with Terry Venables for two years up to Euro '96 with England so, after a few years in the leagues, I just fancied a national team job. At one time I thought I had a great chance of Ireland before Brian Kerr got it, and then Nigeria basically gave me the job but then the government stepped in for certain reasons so that didn't happen. So when the opportunity to come to Asia came, I was interested. I knew about the passion in Thailand for football, so I thought, 'Yeah, it will be an experience and a different culture and a different challenge'."
Many managers who work east of Europe are surprised at the love for the Premier League. Among English clubs at least, United are top dog in most of Asia, though the south-east has long been Liverpool territory. Yet that may no longer be the case, according to the former England captain, and looking at the Manchester United bar on Soi Sukhomvit 11, which does a roaring trade every time the team plays despite some of the highest prices in the city, he has a point.
Manchester United are growing more popular in Thailand
"I think United are number one around here - they've taken over from Liverpool. When I first went to Malaysia as a player, Liverpool were absolutely massive there but, with the success that United have had over the past 15 or 20 years, they have overtaken Liverpool. Obviously Chelsea are coming up on the rails and you always see a lot of Arsenal shirts on the streets because of the success they had when Wenger first went there. It's the same everywhere. You will capture a lot of fans if you are on television and winning tournaments."
Robson is after something similar and hopes that when he does depart, as well as silverware in a Bangkok cabinet, he will leave behind something more intangible but just as important. "You can put certain things in place which I am hoping will bear fruit. We (along with English assistant Steve Darby) have been talking to the FA and clubs about where they are and how they can improve and so you hope that certain things will take off. A couple of clubs have taken it on board. If you leave something little like that behind then it is worthwhile. I'd like to leave that kind of legacy so that after I leave, people will say 'Bryan Robson said that this could develop if we get that organisation into place'. But, of course, I'd also like them to say how we went to the final of the Asian Games and won the Suzuki Cup."
The Suzuki Cup, held in December, is an eight-nation biennial south-east Asian Battle Royale that may not get much play in the rest of the footballing world but it is a big deal for many of the 600 million or so people that live in the neighbourhood. The last of Thailand's three titles came in 2002. The team are still one of the most powerful in the region but, as it is one which will send zero representatives to the Asian Cup in January and hasn't been near a World Cup since 1938, that is not as much as a compliment as it once was.
"We'll go in as one of the favourites because it's South-East Asia," Robson says. "There are some decent teams. Malaysia have been together for around a year and a half now so they will be like more of a club team. Singapore, their Under-23s have been playing in the Singapore league so they are playing together every week. Vietnam are similar to Thailand with the quality of players they've got, so it will be an interesting competition, but hopefully we can get to the finals if not win it."
If it is a little strange to hear the man dubbed 'Captain Marvel', who played for England 90 times and was the face of his club and his country in the '80s, discuss the likes of Malaysia and Singapore, he doesn't stop there. There are also the Asian Games in November and the King's Cup in February at the end of which, Robson says, he will take stock.
"I have to do well in these competitions - not only to satisfy myself but to satisfy the Thai FA as well. A lot will depend well we do in these competitions and by that time I would have been here for around 20 months. I will then look at my own progress before thinking about what lies ahead." Thailand want that future to include a World Cup at some point. "Sometimes expectations can be a bit too high. I don't think the fans expect too much but the media nearly always do. People within the FA, yeah, they always think that the players should do better."
Expectations are high in Thailand for the national team
Maybe they soon will. The Thai Premier League is moving forward with more money and sponsorship around and the top three or four teams are becoming more professional by the day. There is still a long way to go. Watching Thailand defeat India in Bangkok supports Robson's assertion that the Thai national team players are technically better than the ones he had at his last job with Sheffield United, but the sight of chances going begging was a reminder of why the team failed to qualify for the 2011 Asian Cup. Robson, however, is optimistic.
"There is hope for the future. Development in Thailand has moved on really quickly in the past two years and the league is getting a lot stronger and wealthier with the great sponsorship that they have had this season. There is a lot of raw talent here but at the moment it is not nurtured through the years in order to produce top class players.
"The players are really courteous and will try and implement what you put on board in training sessions. They are not really pampered here - it's a hard life and, if they step out of line, they get hammered. If you went back to England and told players that this is the way players are treated in this part of the world, I think they might appreciate what they get."
At the moment, though, Robson is appreciating what he has in Thailand.

Hi Bry. You had a smashing perm in the ‘80s - but why didn’t you ever grow a proper hardman moustache?
Hold on – go back to 1978 and I did have a ridiculous moustache. It was the same time as the curly perm - I looked a bit like Graeme Souness. My wife at the time told me to get rid of it. I think moustaches were more of a Liverpool thing, anyway.
What’s the weirdest dream you’ve ever had?
I once dreamt that someone was breaking into my bedroom. I jumped up and put my fist through the window to stop them. The glass smashed, but the curtains saved my fist from serious injury. All I had was a bruised knuckle.
Christ! Do you often smash up the house in your sleep?
Well, another time I was asleep and I thought the alarm clock was an oncoming car trying to run me over - I could see headlights - so I punched it to bits. These dreams were all in the early eighties, it was weird.
Apart from twatting your alarm clock, what’s the most pain you’ve ever tolerated?
The dislocated shoulder. I’ve broken legs but they go numb. With a shoulder injury you just can’t get rid of the pain, especially if the physio can’t get it back into place. It really, really hurts.
Ever been to the Aberdeen Angus Steakhouse?
I have.
What did you have?
Steak.
A fine choice...
If I go to an Italian I’ll have pasta. So if I go to a Beefeater or Angus Steakhouse, I’ll have steak.
Impeccable logic. Have you ever been out on the rob, Robbo?
No. I never went shoplifting as a kid. I was a goody two shoes really. I think the worst I did was to take a few quid out me mam’s purse for a bar of chocolate.
Which would you rather sing on karaoke: Michael Jackson’s Bad or My Girl Lollipop by Bad Manners?
I’d go for Michael Jackson. My voice is hopeless – I’ve done karaoke, but only when I’m really drunk. I’d rather sing American Pie given the choice [breaks into shaky version of the Don McLean classic].
Right: there’s a fight to the death at the Hawthorns between you, Graeme Souness, Duncan Ferguson and John Fashanu, using medieval weaponry. What happens?
I’d go for the sword and shield combination, but I don’t fancy my chances. Big Dunc would win, I think. But he’d have to kill me before I gave up.
When did you last have a scotch egg?
It would have been at a family birthday or wedding a few years ago up in the North East. If I see a scotch egg at a buffet I’ll get stuck in, but the wife would never get them in with the groceries.
You came third in Superstars in the ‘80s. What stopped you winning?
The problem was that even though I was at my fittest, I didn’t get a chance to practice the events - I went in cold. I didn’t know how to paddle a kayak, I’d never been in one before, so I was in trouble. The judo lad Neil Adams always used to win. I guess he’d had more practice in the canoe.
If you had a Tardis, what era would you go back to?
I’d probably have a look around Medieval England. But they were all mad back then, weren’t they? It’d be just my luck to arrive back there and it’d be 1066 and I’m standing by Harold.
Ever fancied doing any more acting, following your star turn in Jossy’s Giants?
I don’t mind a small role. I did the Carlsberg ad with the lads a while back so hopefully in the future I’ll get a couple more of them.
What would it take for you to kill a man?
If they harmed my family.
What’s your favourite chocolate biscuit?
McVities milk chocolate digestive.
What’s the best thing in your house?
My family – or is it too cheesy to say that? And my OBE – it’s up on the wall in the games room.
You’re a Capricorn. According to astrologer Athena Starwoman, there are two types of Capricorn: the mountain goat, always climbing higher; and the garden goat, which refuses to budge. Which are you, Bry?
The mountain one. I’m always trying to do something different rather than sit still.
What are your three favourite liquids that can be consumed for fun - aka funquids?
Budweiser, white wine and Ribena.
The classic Ribena that you dilute, or the pre-mixed funquid?
The classic. It’s good hot, too. Sometimes in the morning I’ll do that instead of a cup of tea.
What’s the meaning of life, Robbo?
Enjoy yourself, work hard and be healthy.

Robson Enggan Tinggalkan Thailand
Defanie Arianti - Okezone
BANGKOK - Meski mendapat kecaman dari publik Thailand menyusul prestasi memprihatinkan tim sepakbola nasional, pelatih asal Inggris Bryan Robson berkeras mempertahankan pekerjaannya.
Mantan kapten timnas Inggris gagal memberikan kontribusi signifikan sejak mengambil alih kepelatihan skuad Changsuek -julukan Thailand-, 2009 lalu.
"Saya melatih tim secara full time.
(van)

Bryan Robson in cancer battle
Wednesday 16th March 2011 11:26
Teamtalk
Former England captain Bryan Robson has undergone surgery for throat cancer, Manchester United said on Wednesday.
Robson was in Bangkok when he had the operation on March 3 and United have said specialists are optimistic about the chances of a full recovery.
"Bryan Robson underwent an operation to remove a tumour from his throat on March 3, 2011 in a hospital in Bangkok," a club statement read.
"The laboratory report revealed a cancerous tumour, which will need further treatment. The oncologist is confident that the condition is treatable."
The former Manchester United skipper is currently combining his work as a United ambassador with coaching the Thailand national team.
The statement continued: "At this moment Bryan is fine to continue with his role as Thailand coach and his role as ambassador of Manchester United.
"Bryan and his family have requested that he can continue with his treatment in private and ask that their privacy is respected."
Although it seems Robson has managed to catch the tumour at an early stage, news of the operation will come as a shock.
The 54-year-old was always regarded as the fittest of players, able to push himself far beyond the likes of Paul McGrath and Norman Whiteside who, like Robson, were also noted for their fondness for a drink.
He won 90 caps for his country, 65 as captain, despite a succession of major injuries and was dubbed Captain Marvel by Sir Bobby Robson.
Sir Alex Ferguson was just as enthusiastic about Robson's contribution to the Old Trafford cause and when he left United in 1994 he had led the club to three FA Cups, the European Cup Winners' Cup and two Premier League titles, even though his influence was dwindling by that stage.
He never enjoyed the same success as a manager though.
While Robson did enjoy some fine moments in a career that took him from Middlesbrough to Bradford, West Brom and Sheffield United, he remained out of the game following his dismissal by the Blades in 2008 until he replaced Peter Reid in Thailand in September 2009.

Bryan Robson Battling With Throat Cancer

Manchester United have confirmed club legend Bryan Robson is battling with throat cancer. The 54-year-old is a global ambassador for The Reds, and is currently managing the Thailand national team. Robson underwent an operation to remove a tumour from his throat in Bangkok, and his condition has been described as 'treatable'...
Robson spent 13 seasons at United, where he made 345 appearances as a midfielder. He netted 74 goals for the club, and known as 'Captain Marvel' - he was The Red's longest-serving skipper. Robbo also played 90 games for England, wearing the captains armband for well over half of those appearances. He rejoined United in 2008, and has worked as global ambassador ever since. In 2009, he became the boss of Thailand's international side.
A statement was issued by the club on Wednesday via ManUtd.Com: "Bryan Robson underwent an operation to remove a tumour from his throat on March 3, 2011 in a hospital in Bangkok. The laboratory report revealed a cancerous tumour, which will need further treatment. The oncologist is confident that the condition is treatable. At this moment, Bryan is fine to continue with his role as Thailand coach and his role as Ambassador of United."
The announcement added: "Bryan and his family have requested that he can continue with his treatment in private and ask that their privacy is respected..."

Bryan Robson Didera Kanker Tenggorokan
Arya Perdhana - detiksport
Robson mulai jadi pelatih timnas Thailand sejak tahun 2009.
Semoga lekas sembuh, Robbo.

Robson: Terima Kasih, MU

I'm positive I can beat cancer, says former England and United captain Robson
Former England and Manchester United midfielder Bryan Robson is confident of making a full recovery after surgery for throat cancer earlier this month.
Robson, 54, currently managing Thailand, had the operation in Bangkok on March 3 and is set to start a five-week course of treatment next week.
He told talkSPORT: 'I'm over in England for a week and I'll get a second opinion from a specialist, but I am confident about going back out there and receiving the treatment.
'I'll start on a five-week course of radium treatment next week and just keep my fingers crossed. When things like this come up, you've got to be positive and get on with it.'

Steel boss sends message of support to Bryan Robson
by Chris Hole, Evening Gazette
BORO legend Bryan Robson has been sent a message of support in his recovery from cancer - by Teesside’s newest hero.
Win Viriyaprapaikit has sent his best wishes to the former England captain, now manager of the steel boss’s home nation Thailand.
It comes as Robbo has described how doctors are “very postive” about his progress and how he expected to be given the all-clear in a couple of months.
Mr Win, behind SSI’s takeover of Teesside Cast Products in Redcar, said his country was spurring Robson on after his treatment for throat cancer.
He added: “I think the people of Thailand all send Bryan Robson best wishes. “We love our football and, since Bryan joined the national team, people are aware of the North-east clubs like Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Newcastle.”
Robson, who led Boro to the Premier League and a succession of cup finals, has managed Thailand since 2009.
He underwent surgery for throat cancer on March 3 - having a tumour removed in a Bangkok hospital.
Robbo is now recovering and thanked fans for their support, telling a radio station: “I’m over in England for a week and I’ll get a second opinion from a specialist here, but I am quite confident about going back out there and receiving the treatment.
“Fingers crossed, everything will be clear within a couple of months.”
Robson will start a five-week course of radium treatment in Thailand next week and said: “I thought I just had a sore throat, so I went into the hospital to see the doctor on the Monday. He diagnosed it straight away, I had the MRI scan on the Tuesday and he operated on me on the Thursday - so that’s how efficient they are over in Thailand.”
Former Boro team-mate Craig Hignett said, just 10 days after having the tumour removed, Robson was playing for a Boro legends side at a tournament in Malaysia - but never mentioned his illness at the time.
“He came, played, and looked absolutely brilliant,” Hignett said. “I can’t believe that he’d been with us so soon after his op. But that sums up the man and that is why he’s an English football legend.”

Robson: United Tak Mudah Ulangi Treble 1999

Robson Kecam Cara Pergantian Kapten Inggris
"Isu tentang masalah kapten tim Inggris jadi banyak dibicarakan," katanya.
"Saya katakan saat itu kalau itu keputusan yang salah, menggantikan Terry sebagai kapten. Ini menyangkut sepak bola dan masalah mereka tidak ada kaitannya dengan sepak bola," kata Robson.
"Ia kapten tim negaranya untuk bermain sepak bola. Hal lain merupakan urusan kehidupan pribadinya," katanya.
"Semoga masa lalu berlalu. John Terry diberi kepercayaan lagi sebagai kapten tim, jadi semua orang bekerja sesuai pekerjaannya dan semua tenang kembali," katanya.
"Semoga pada sisa kompetisi penyisihan Euro 2012, kita memiliki tim tangguh dengan kapten yang sama. Itu yang paling penting ketimbang membicarakan hal lain," katanya.(ant/cax)

Robson: Things are looking good
Six weeks ago, Manchester United and England legend Bryan Robson was sitting in a Bangkok hospital, recovering from an operation to remove a tumour from his throat. The news, which was released to the public two weeks later caused a huge outpouring of support for the man considered to be one of the greatest midfielders of his generation.
Signed by United for a British record transfer fee of £1.5m in 1981, Robson was later installed as captain of the Old Trafford outfit and won three FA Cups, the 1991 European Cup Winners' Cup and two Premier League titles in 13 years. He was also a key man for his country, given the nickname of ‘Captain Marvel’ by Bobby Robson and featured in the FIFA World Cups of 1982, 1986 and 1990.
Today Robson can be found in Thailand, coaching the country’s national team – a position in which he takes a great deal of pride as he seeks to build a footballing legacy.
FIFA.com How are you feeling? Obviously you’ve not been in such good health recently, but you are looking quite well.
Bryan Robson: Yes, I’m feeling fine. Since I had the tumour out I’ve had fairly good news about the type of treatment I need and how long it’s going to take. But I’ve also been given confidence by a couple of different specialists saying I should make a 100 per cent recovery so I’ve had been good news over the last few weeks.
Have your friends in football been rallying around you, as well as people who have been through similar experiences to yourself?
I must admit throughout the football world, the support and messages that I’ve had has been fantastic. I’d like to thank everybody for that. Lads who have actually been in the game, ex-players, who have had cancer and needed treatment, I’ve had phone calls from those sorts of people with support and advice of how to take it on board. But as far as I’m concerned, I’m going to keep working, do the treatment and hopefully it will not affect me in any way and I can carry on doing the job.
How are things going with the Thai national team?
It’s been pretty good but we haven’t had anything since December so it’s been a bit of a quiet time. The Thai Premier League has just started up again so they are only five games into the season. I’ve been going to watch games, looking at a few young, good talents who are coming through. Then in July we’ve got the first World Cup qualifying game to look forward to, and if we can win that home and away tie against Afghanistan or Palestine then that will take us into the Asian group stages, which would be nice.
From what you achieved as a player, does the prospect of even these pre-qualifiers excite you as a manager?
Yes, because you’re talking about the World Cup. In Asia you’ve got to go through these games to progress further in the competition so, for me, it’s really important that we win the two games in July so then we get into the group stages and give ourselves a chance of qualifying for Brazil.
Is the target qualification for Brazil or do you think it might be another FIFA World Cup away for Thailand?
I think everybody wants to qualify for Brazil and go over there. But over the years, we’ve been a fair way off that so if we can just give ourselves a chance, we’ll be happy with that.
As a player, what is your favourite FIFA World Cup memory?
It would be 1982 because it was my first World Cup finals game; beating France 3-1 and obviously scoring two goals.
There has been a lot of investment in the Thai Premier League over the last couple of years. Have you noticed a discernible improvement in standards since you started managing the Thai national side?
Somebody did a survey on the TPL and it has actually grown 500 per cent over the last 18 months so that’s a massive rise. A lot of big sponsors came into the TPL for whatever reason, big businesses, and they have supported the league so that’s meant better sponsorship, better coverage on TV and they are getting more crowds as well.
Plus, all the players who played for the national team who were playing abroad, apart from one, have all come back into Thailand to play their football for clubs in Thailand. So that’s helpful for me, to keep in touch with the players and watch them. But because of the league improving, it’s improving the national team as well.
Manchester United have a series of seven, possibly eight games coming up that will really define their season in terms of success. How do you see them going?
This is where you want to be coming into the end of the season. They have got important games because they have been successful. Champions League? Really close one, even if you do get through against Schalke you’re going to have to meet either Barcelona or Real Madrid in the final, so that’s a tough one.
In the league they are set up great, they’ve got good advantage at the moment. It’s nicely balanced, with three home games and two away games so they have a great chance of getting the title back. They’re all big games between now and the end of the season but that’s what their players are used to.
Is it times like this that you wish you could pull on the Manchester United shirt again yourself and get out there?
No, it’s not times like this, I’ve felt like that since I was 37 and left United! It’s always nice to play, you can’t replace playing.

Ooo pantes Bryan Robson kini ikut FA Cup Trophy Tour 2011. Berarti Sea Games besok batal deh rencana ketemuan Robson, huhuhu ...
Health issues force resignation, says Robson
Worawi: Withe would be a good replacement
Bryan Robson insists that he resigned as Thailand's coach mainly because of health and family reasons.
"It is with regret that I have to announce my resignation, with mutual consent, as national team coach for Thailand. This decision has been made for a number of reasons, but primarily for health and family reasons," the former England and Manchester United star said in a statement released yesterday.
"I have enjoyed my time associated with Thai football and leave with nothing but respect for the endeavours of people within the game who are working so hard to develop the game to reach the standard that it truly deserves."
Robson underwent surgery for throat cancer in March and has previously said doctors were optimistic he would make a full recovery.
The Football Association of Thailand announced on Wednesday that Robson terminated his contract on mutual consent.
Reports suggested that his departure might have something to do with the allegations by former English Football Association David Triesman that FAT president Worawi, as a Fifa executive committee member, asked for a favour in return for his vote for England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup.
Worawi has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the English FA and Fifa but he insists he will sue Triesman for defamation.
In his statement, Robson did not discuss the matter.
Robson, 54, arrived in Thailand in September 2009 on a four-year contract until the 2014 World Cup. He succeeded former England colleague Peter Reid.
"I resigned at this point to allow the FAT time to appoint a new coach to take on the World Cup qualifying programme. I wish everybody involved in Thai football the best of success and will be cheering on the team at every opportunity," Robson said in the statement.
Worawi has said that former Thailand coach Peter Withe, also an Englishman, could be a good choice to lead the country for a second spell.
Robson thanked all concerned parties for their support during his stint with the national team including his assistant Steve Darby, Worawi, national team manager Anucha Nakasai and his personal assistant Wasapol Kaewpaluk. Darby also quit the national team.
"Most of all I would like to thank the Thai football fans who fully deserve a winning national team. They have given their support throughout my time here and when I was initially ill, I was inundated with good wishes from the fans. My wife and I greatly appreciated their personal support," he said.
He said many Thai players particularly national team captain Nataporn Phanrit could play in the world's major leagues.
"Their attitude is top class and on par with professionals anywhere in the world," he said.
"I had many impressive matches as the Thai head coach but three matches that will be in my memory.
"The match against Singapore when Thailand beat them 3-1, that was the first match that I took part as the head coach for Thailand.
"The other two matches were against Iran in the Asian Cup [qualifying round], although we lost that match in Teheran, we played very well.
"And finally, the Asian Games quarter-final match with Japan. Although we lost to the Japanese team, we had several chances to score goals against them."
Unfortunately, there were also many poor games under Robson who saw the Thais eliminated in the first round of the Suzuki Cup (Southeast Asian championship) last year. At the tournament, Thailand failed to seal a single win and were fortunate to draw with Laos thanks to a late equaliser.
Darby was also not very popular among Thai fans. He was coach of Thailand's U23 side who were eight-time defending champions but were knocked out in the first round at the 2009 SEA Games.
Robson joined an event to unveil Manchester United's new shirt at CentralWorld yesterday. He told reporters he had no immediate plan to return to football management in his home country and that at this stage he will only continue as a global ambassador for United.
"It's not like I'm leaving to go into another management job. I have my reasons to leave and it's not to manage another team," he said.
He plans to return home at the end of this month.

Bryan Robson: Samir Nasri can wear Ginger Prince's crown at Manchester United
Stuart Mathieson
Will Manchester United be able to unveil Paul Scholes’ successor at the Ginger Prince’s testimonial against New York Cosmos?
An Old Trafford farewell and welcome all in one night on Friday August 5.
It would provide a seamless transition, if a touch daunting for the retired playmaker’s heir to take their bow.
But the Reds fly out to America on Monday for their five-match tour of the US returning at the beginning of next month just four days before Scholes’ goodbye bash.
Just 48 hours later it is the Community Shield eve-of-season derby showdown with City at Wembley before the Premier League campaign begins against West Brom at the Hawthorns the following weekend.
The summer transfer window remains open for a fortnight after the big kick-off but Sir Alex Ferguson will not want the biggest and most crucial of his close- season imports to be joining up late.
The United boss will want the Champions as one from the word go.
As the Reds trawl around Stateside, engine-room legend Bryan Robson will be with the tour and hoping he can return to salute Scholes on his benefit night with a new conductor ready to take the podium.
And Captain Marvel Robbo hopes it will be Samir Nasri who will be pulling on Scholes’ old shirt.
Nasri has reportedly told Arsene Wenger of his desire to leave Arsenal, with United favourites to land the Frenchman.
“Nasri would be great at Old Trafford,” Robson told MEN Sport. “I think the big problem Sir Alex Ferguson will have chasing these top players is that players now aren’t looking to move solely for football reasons.
“Before, United were at the fore of all top transfers because players wanted to play for Manchester United for football reasons. But these days money is a big issue.
“Clubs like City and Chelsea are wielding the cash, players are attracted to that and it seems City are interested in Nasri.
Silverware
“It is up to him. Does he want to play for a club who’ve won titles and silverware year in, year out and have been to three out of the last four Champions League finals?
“Or does he go for money to a club who might not be able to promise that like United for another couple of years? Is it money or is it football?
“I don’t know what he will decide but for me he is the one United should get.
“It’s impossible to replace Paul Scholes like-for-like, but Nasri would be the midfielder I’d want to attempt the job.”
Robson’s twilight years at Old Trafford before he moved into management at Middlesbrough were spent largely trying to gain fitness in the reserves and it gave him the opportunity to team up with a teenage Paul Scholes.
“I was a sub for the first team a lot in my final year at United and I wanted to play reserve matches to keep my fitness up,” recalled Bryan.
“It was great in that I got to play with that Class of ‘92 before their breakthrough to the seniors. Of all the talent in that lot it was Paul who stood out for me, but actually he wasn’t playing in midfield he was up front.
“When I was in the centre of midfield I had Nicky Butt alongside me, David Beckham to the right and Ben Thornley was on the left. So that meant Scholesy was up front with Robbie *Savage.
“But it wasn’t a waste as far as Paul was concerned because he scored a goal for us every game. He was a great centre forward.
“Obviously it was in midfield that he shone for the first team.
“I think the term great is used too easily these days for players, but it is absolutely spot-on for Paul. He was such an intelligent footballer. He had great vision. When he had his back to play it was as if he had eyes in the back of his head. It was astonishing what he could see.
“There was the ability to knock a ball wide and then ghost in just at the right moment to put the ball in the net. That’s when those centre forward days came into it. He scored some wonderful goals that way but also from great distance.
“His striking of a ball was superb. The technique was perfect. He reminds me of the very top professional golfers how they keep their head still and strike through the ball without any effort.
“It was fantastic to watch that technique. He could send the ball straight as an arrow a million miles.
“As an all-round player he had absolutely everything – except he couldn’t tackle! But was he tough.”

EXCLUSIVE Bryan Robson interview: My fight
By Ralph Ellis
He is nearing his 70th birthday. He has managed Manchester United for nearly a quarter of a century. He most definitely now has the 19th title he craved for so long.
But the ruthless drive for perfection with which Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled over Old Trafford remains as relentless as the day he first walked through the door.
Bryan Robson saw it back then when he was the Captain Marvel who led United to the first of Fergie’s titles, and he can see it still, as the master manager prepares to *rebuild his team for a fourth time.
England legend Robson was known for his own fearless approach – a quality he’s *having to show again as he deals calmly with a course of treatment for throat cancer.
But in his first major interview since he was diagnosed with the condition, Robbo is even more full of admiration for the dogged *determination with which Fergie is making sure Old Trafford remains a byword for *winning.
He said: “Sir Alex is amazing like that. *Always was. As soon as something triggers in his mind that he thinks it is time for a player to move on, he does it – and you will not change his opinion on it.
“He will be adamant that he has maybe seen just a little bit of a flaw in a player, and as soon as that happens he’ll try to replace them with younger ones.”
Robson, known as Captain Marvel at *United, remembers learning that first hand.
As his final season as a player was drawing to a close back in 1994 he knocked on the manager’s door to enquire about his future, knowing that Steve Gibson wanted to offer him a managerial job at Middlesbrough.
Robson said: “I’d not seen a particular sign that my time was up. Even though I hadn’t played regularly that season I was always on the bench, and so I’d been *involved in a lot of games, and had just played in the semi-final of the FA Cup.
“But when I went to see him he was full of encouragement to take the Middlesbrough job – that rather told me it was the time to go. He said he had Nicky Butt, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and that group. He wanted to move them up because they had proved *themselves at youth and reserve level.
“It was time for them to kick-on, like Ryan Giggs had already done.
“There was a whole group of us moved out. I can see it all happening again.
“In my view he’s done it three times *already where players have got that bit old and he’s moved them on and replaced them, and this looks like his fourth time round.
“Gary Neville’s gone, Scholesy’s gone, Edwin van der Sar too. He’s allowed Wes Brown and John O’Shea to go at the same time – it’s taken out a lot of experience.
“But he’s not even tried to buy experience to replace them. He’s just bringing in young ones like Phil Jones and Ashley Young.
“It could take a bit of time to bed in, but he’s done it before and he’ll be just as *successful doing it again. You can be sure.”
Robson, back home in Cheshire after a two-year stint managing the Thailand national team, makes no apologies for his belief in his old boss.
He’s still a big part of the United *family, and the club have done *wonders for him since the shock of his illness when he was rushed into a hospital in *Bangkok for an operation to remove a *tumour, with five weeks of *radiation treatment to follow.
The man who we *remember for popping his own *dislocated shoulder back into place during an England World Cup match and just getting on with the game, is going about this fight with the same dignified courage.
He admitted: “All I’ll say, and I don’t want to go on about it, is that I’ve just tried to be really positive towards the treatment.
“I’ve finished the treatment now. I still have to go back. I’ll wait for the next test and see how it goes from there.
“The one thing I’d say is that I can’t thank enough all the football supporters from all around the world that have sent get-well cards and other messages of support.
“It’s amazing to get such a *fantastic response. I’ve driven everybody at Old Trafford mad *because with me being an ambassador for the club, all the mail went to them so they have had to handle it all.”
Robson also believes that Fergie will land Premier League title No.20.
He said: “Some people wondered if the gaffer would get that 19th title, but United are favourites for the title again. It’s the manager’s hunger – and he wouldn’t have it any other way.”

EXCLUSIVE Bryan Robson on Ryan Giggs and managing Thailand
By Ralph Ellis
Ryan Giggs could stretch his amazing one club career and still be playing in the Premier League when he turns 40.
That’s the belief of Bryan Robson who once shared a dressing room with a skinny young Giggs, but now marvels at the staying power of the player who broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s Manchester United appearance record.
Robson said: “Ryan will be 38 in November and for me there’s no doubt he can go on for a few more years yet.
“He’s got the desire – that’s why he’s won as many things as he has in his career.
“When I saw him as a 17-year-old when he first came in he had unbelievable pace, stamina, and that hasn’t changed much.
“He won’t put weight on and he’s a fitness fanatic. He also has an incredible mentality to keep going and keep winning.
“He has more of a temper than you’d think. He’s mild-mannered, but when he really thinks something, he can snap and have a right go at people.
“You need that edge. You have to care and have a bit of edge to be a top player.”
Robson added: “If you have a lot of those personalities *together now and again you’ll have a ruck and they can clash, but it’s *always been an essential part of having a team with the *hunger to win things.”
***
Bryan Robson left his *management job in *Thailand because he felt he was “hitting my head against a brick wall”.
Robson spent two years as national team manager, taking over from old pal Peter Reid.
“I spent two years trying to build a coaching structure but *nothing ever moved *forward.
“In England we’ve had the McDonald’s scheme for ten years, creating coaches at every level of the game. When I passed my Pro *Licence I think there were barely 100 with the *qualification. Now there are around 2,000.
“I wanted to put that sort of structure into Thailand.
“They thought that if you just worked with the top *players for a week before a game they would get better.
“But the real work has to happen every day at their clubs. I just felt I couldn’t take things any further there.”
***
Bryan Robson almost never *became a footballer – because West Brom thought he was too puny!
He got his chance only when a kindly schoolteacher gave up his own time to help the young Robbo beef up.
That’s why Robson’s an *ambassador for the McDonald’s and FA Community Awards, which *recognise *volunteers up and down the country for their huge contribution to the grass-roots game.
Robson said: “When I was 14 I went down to West Brom for training. They liked my ability, but said I was a bit weak.
“I went back to my school and a guy called Bill Chapman stepped in. He took me for two nights training after school every week for six months.
“Just one-on-one help, with nobody but a skinny kid to say thanks. Those sort of people are the lifeblood of the game.
“Without Bill who knows whether I’d have had a career at all.”

Robbo TV sting: United legend under fire in clubs-for-sale investigation
By Sami Mokbel
Manchester United will review Bryan Robson’s role as their global ambassador after the former England captain was caught in a TV sting.
And Sir Alex Ferguson’s lawyers issued a statement to distance the Old Trafford manager from any wrongdoing.
Robson, who is in America on United’s pre-season tour, was secretly filmed by Channel 4’s Dispatches programme suggesting ways of getting round football’s strict rules on owning more than one club.
Most damning of all, the man remembered as Captain Marvel for club and country claimed: ‘I disagree with people when they say football is a sport.
‘Football lost its sporting thing when the money started coming in and Sky TV and all that. Football’s a business.’
As the programme aired, an avalanche of angry fans on Twitter called for him to lose his job as the United’s ambassador.
Robson, 54, was filmed in Bangkok’s Manchester United theme bar in March while he was Thailand’s manager. He has since left the job.
A United spokesman said: ‘We have not had a chance to review the programme as we are on tour in the US.’
Robson was also acting as an advisor to London Nominees Football Fund — a group ‘investing in football clubs, players, franchises, merchandising and sponsorship in this outstanding growth industry’.
London Nominees were offering to broker the purchase of a club in exchange for a 20 per cent stake and a five per cent management fee.
Robson, who won 90 England caps between 1980 and 1991, met the undercover team alongside his boss at that time, Joe Sim, chief advisor to the Thai FA and also involved with London Nominees.
Sim boasted of his friendship with Sir Alex Ferguson, showed mobile phone pictures of the two together and claimed he could get the Scot to loan players once a club had been bought.
At one time Sim spoke to the reporter while having dinner with Sir Alex and passed the phone to the United manager to discuss that day’s game.
He even claimed Ferguson is planning to retire in three years and that he had received betting advice from the United manager, saying: ‘He tells me which football team to bet. Not all the time it’s accurate, sometimes. He never says anything about Man United, only other teams. It’s not serious, just for fun.’
Sir Alex’s lawyers said in a statement: ‘It would be fair to say he (Sir Alex) does not see their relationship in the same close way that Mr Sim appears to have represented it.
‘He has never discussed the possibility of loaning any Manchester United players. He may have on occasions given an opinion on the likely outcome of matches but only in the course of normal social discussion.’
It is Robson, however, who was most damaged by the programme. The former midfielder, who won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups in a glittering United career, advised the reporters, who were pretending to be representing Indian and Chinese businessmen, to buy Sheffield Wednesday, telling them they could make up to £300million profit by getting them promoted to the Barclays Premier League.
He was secretly filmed along with London Nominees chief executive Andrew Leppard and lawyer Steve Burkill. Nine clubs were suggested as potential takeover targets — both the Sheffield sides, Leeds, Leicester, Cardiff, Oxford, Crystal Palace, Birmingham and Derby.
Robson said he could use his relationships with former team-mates and managers to help with transfers, adding: ‘It is how you name it, because you’re only allowed to own one club.’
The former Middlesbrough boss added: ‘If you want big money, Sheffield Wednesday is the one to do it with. It could be a really big club. Loan deals are the key. If you can get really good players from the Premier League to come down, then that’s your best route.’
Asked which managers apart from Ferguson he could contact for help, Robson named Harry Redknapp, Steve Bruce and Kenny Dalglish while Sim added Roy Keane and Mark Hughes.
Robson has since left Thailand after needing surgery and treatment on a cancerous tumour in his throat, returning to take up his ambassador post at Old Trafford virtually full time.
His lawyers were watching the programme to consider their response.
Former FA chairman Lord Triesman said: ‘This is a very worrying thing to watch.’
A spokesman for London Nominees said: ‘Any suggestion Bryan Robson would participate in any breach of League rules is strongly denied.’

Manchester United retain Bryan Robson as ambassador in face of Dispatches backlash
Manchester United will retain Bryan Robson as their global ambassador until they get a chance to watch Channel Four's Dispatches, which was screened last night.
As revealed by The Telegraph, the programme secretly filmed the former England and Manchester United captain giving advice on how to circumvent Football Association rules on owning more than one football club.
In one clip, Robson, 54, working for London Nominees Football Fund, says: "I disagree with people when they say football is a sport. When the Sky [TV] money came in, that changed. Football is a business."
Other members of the fund talked about loopholes that enabled foreign owners, with the help of offshore bank accounts and front groups, to buy two English clubs.
Robson and another associate boasted how they would get players on loan from United once they had bought one or two of the Championship and Football League clubs they claim are open to take over.
There was immediate backlash from United supporters, with many of them calling on the social network site Twitter for Robson to be stripped of his ambassador's role.
But a United spokesman said: "We've not had chance to review the programme as we are on a tour of the US."
Robson, who won 90 England caps between 1980 and 1991, met the undercover team alongside Joe Sim, chief adviser to the Thai FA during Robson's stay in Bangkok.
Sim boasted of his friendship with Sir Alex Ferguson, and showed mobile phone pictures of the two together.
Ferguson's lawyers said in a statement: "It would be fair to say he (Ferguson) does not see their relationship in the same close way that Mr Sim appears to have represented it."

Kita tunggu saja perkembangan selanjutnya, mudah-mudahan sih Robson terus dipertahankan.

Masih berlanjut rupanya ...
Robson Reviewing Legal Options
Bryan Robson has confirmed he is taking legal advice over the Channel 4 Dispatches programme in which he is alleged to have offered Thailand businessmen advice about getting around strict rules on football ownership.
The Football Association are monitoring footage before deciding whether to take any action against Robson and his position as a Manchester United ambassador has been called into question.
On camera, Robson claims: "I disagree with people when they say football is a sport.
"Football lost its sporting thing when the money started coming in and Sky TV and all that. Football's a business."
Robson was also acting as an advisor to London Nominees Football Fund - a group that invests in 'football clubs, players, franchises, merchandising and sponsorship'.
London Nominees were offering to broker the purchase of a club in exchange for a 20% stake and a five percent management fee.
Robson met what turned out to be a team of undercover reporters alongside his then boss, Joe Sim, chief advisor to the Thailand FA and also involved with London Nominees.
Sim boasted of his friendship with United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, showed mobile phone pictures of the two together and claimed he could get the Scot to loan players once a club had been bought.
Ferguson's lawyers have already distanced the Manchester United manager from the programme, claiming Sim has vastly overestimated their relationship.
Now Robson has had his say and is clearly intent on defending himself in the strongest possible terms.
"I am aware of (but have not yet seen) the Channel 4 production - Dispatches - How to Buy a Football Club," said the former England captain.
"I have seen certain newspaper articles written about it and I would like to make certain things clear.
"I am an advisor to the London Nominees Football Fund and was engaged to provide advice and assistance on the football side of investments only.
"While it may have been unwise to enter into discussions with unknown parties, much of the footage of me is unrepresentative of the views I expressed during the course of the meeting and has been presented in a way that is totally out of its context.
"The journalists were repeatedly told by me and others that owning multiple clubs was a breach of the rules and could not be done.
"I am appalled to learn that footage has been edited to suggest that I was involved in an attempt to try and breach these rules - which is something I would not do.
"This entire episode is yet another example of some representatives of the media behaving in a totally unacceptable way in the manner in which they obtain and then present information.
"As a result of this, I am taking legal advice on the way forward."
Robson is currently with United in Seattle and was accompanied by Red Devils chief executive David Gill in addressing home supporters before their traditional 'March to the Match' ahead of kick-off against the Sounders this evening.

Ex-Midddlesbrough stars back Bryan Robson
by Alastair Craig, Sunday Sun
FORMER North football colleagues of controversy-hit Bryan Robson have backed him to come through his TV sting ordeal.
The former Middlesbrough manager is taking legal advice over a Channel 4 Dispatches programme in which he is alleged to have offered Thailand businessmen advice about avoiding strict rules on football ownership.
The undercover interview showed Robson drinking lager and apparently claiming his relationships with former team-mates and managers could help with transfers to any club targeted.
The Football Association is monitoring footage before deciding whether to take any action against Robson, and it is reported his position as a Manchester United ambassador has been called into question.
Robson, who recently resigned as boss of the Thailand national team, and has fought throat cancer, managed full-time at the Riverside stadium from 1996 to 2001.
The former player, nicknamed “Captain Marvel”, won Boro promotion to the Premier League in his first season, and in 1996–97 led his side to both domestic cup finals.
Boro legend Dean Gordon, who was one of Robson’s key defensive signings when he was on Teesside, said last night that Channel 4 had done nothing more than “kick an ill man when he’s down”.
“I’ve seen this kind of thing before with the media and I don’t agree with it,” he said. “The whole thing seems to be have been taken out of context.
“Bryan has been violated and caught on a recording when he’s said something he clearly didn’t mean.
“I really feel for him. He’s one of football’s good guys and he did so much for me in my time playing for Middlesbrough.
“Playing under him was a dream come true.

Bravo Robbo !!!
BRYAN ROBSON NAMED AS MANCHESTER UNITED’S MOST MARVELLOUS
By Harry Harris
MANCHESTER UNITED’S Captain Marvel of the 1980s and 90s, Bryan Robson, has been voted the club’s greatest ever player by his fellow Old Trafford legends.
And Robson expects United to go on to retain the Premier League this season, 19 years after he led them to their first back in 1992-93.
Robson’s accolade comes in a new book, “19”, released to mark the club’s title in May which saw them finally overcome Liverpool’s mark of 18 elite league championships.
He topped a poll of United legends from several different eras with 15 votes, ahead of George Best on 14 and Bobby Charlton, in third place, on 13. Then came Paul Scholes and Eric Cantona on 11 each, with Roy Keane the only other to reach double figures on 10.
“I am especially honoured being chosen by the lads,” said Robson, who made 461 appearances for the club over 13 years.
“To finish above George Best and Bobby Charlton! When you think of all the great players over the years at United and to finish above that duo – and Duncan Edwards – is a great honour.”
Robson said winning that first Premier League title in 1993 was critical in enabling United to launch their assault on the record of rivals Liverpool.
“We had come close a couple of times,” he says. “But throughout the 70s and 80s Liverpool were dominant. We had real opportunities, especially one season when we won the first 10 league games, but then we suffered a lot of injuries.
“Failing to win the title became an albatross around our neck, and it was fantastic that the lads finally broke those shackles in 1993.
“It had to happen...it was such a burden and it got worse every year it went on, but once it arrived it relaxed the players and they were able to go on to greater achievements. Yet even though we thought it would release us for more titles, no one would ever have thought that under Sir Alex we would have gone on to win so many.”

Alhamdulillah Captain Marvel sembuh !!!
Bryan Robson Sembuh Dari Kankernya
(mmd/mxm)

Bryan Robson on his cancer battle and Boro
by Chris Hole, Evening Gazette
http://images.icnetwork.co.uk/upl/gazettelive2/mar2011/5/8/bryan-robson-537123181.jpg
MESSAGES of support flooded in from across the world when Bryan Robson was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. Chris Hole spoke to the Boro legend about how the support here on Teesside has helped him battle the illness. And a decade after he left the club, he also exclusively spoke about his best memories from his spell in charge.
DURING a distinguished career on the football field, Bryan Robson fought many battles.
But this year he faced his biggest fight yet.
Six months ago, it was revealed that the former Boro player and manager was suffering from throat cancer.
The 54-year-old recently revealed he was on the mend after receiving a letter from the specialist who treated him.
The ex-England captain must still have further checks - but doctors are confident he has beaten the illness.
“To a certain degree I have been given the all-clear with my throat,” Bryan, formerly captain of Manchester United, told the Gazette.
“I need six-month checks but the doctors are pleased.”
News of Bryan’s illness spread quickly across the world, when it was revealed in March.
Here on Teesside, messages of support were sent to Bryan by fans, former team-mates and colleagues.
Supporters at the Riverside Stadium also unveiled a touching banner during the game with Watford, reading “Keep Up The Fight Robbo”.
“The fans were great with their well-wishes,” said Bryan, who was born in Chester-le-Street.
“I had a few text messages on the Saturday when it all came out.
“I got lots of texts from mates who were at the Middlesbrough game too and they told me about the support.
“It does make a big difference when you get a reaction like that.”
It was 10 years ago this summer that Bryan left Boro after seven years at the helm.
But his success - and the legacy he left on Teesside - means he remains hugely popular on Teesside.

Robson hails Rooney's return to form
By Harry Harris, Football Correspondent
Manchester United legend Bryan Robson believes the form of Wayne Rooney and the expertise of Sir Alex Ferguson will tip the balance in this season's title race.
Robson captained United to their first Premier League title under Ferguson in 1993, and again in 1994, and knows what it takes to win at the top level.
The former England skipper said: "The most amazing part of the boss' mentality is that everybody knows about the work he puts in around the club to build these teams, who have such desire and ability."
As for Manchester City, 'Robbo' commented: "There is definitely a danger there. City and United are getting all the plaudits because of the amount of goals they are scoring."
Ahead of United's showdown with Chelsea on Sunday, he added: "Chelsea have started steadily. I saw the Stoke game. They were a bit unfortunate not to get a penalty for a foul on Frank Lampard when the game was goalless. That could easily have won the game for Chelsea and then they would have made the same start as City and United.
"They have done well. They have great players. I like a few of the players they have brought in right at the last minute. You cannot discount them.
"Chelsea are a team who could go on a run and win six or seven games in a row. They have great experience in the squad. They will be up there challenging United and City this season."
United's former inspirational skipper knows that Rooney can still be the top man of the season.
Robson said: "I didn't think there was ever a danger of Wayne Rooney not getting back to where he once was. If you are a top player, you have dips in form. You are not going to play fantastic football all your career. That is all it was with Wayne.
"I don't think the ankle injury helped him going into the World Cup. Then he had a few problems in his private life. It does affect you. It weighs heavy. Thankfully he is over all that. He and his family are as well. He is playing his best football now, which is great for Manchester United and England."
PFA chief Gordon Taylor presented Robson with an award as the club's greater ever player this week, as voted by the players who were interviewed in the Manchester United book "19"
Robson was emotional about the award: "It is a great honour, especially when it comes from the players. I am not so sure about this poll, where I am above people like Bobby Charlton, Duncan Edwards. They were fantastic. It is a nice feeling."

Robson: Game has changed
Bryan Robson believes the lack of box-to-box midfielders in today's game is largely due to a tactical shift.
The Old Trafford ambassador, who*watched*training ahead of the Basel tie alongside Sir Alex,*was the master*of dominating all over the pitch, making last-ditch tackles in his own area and ghosting in to score goals at the other end.
Roy Keane revealed in his autobiography that his former team-mate told him to adapt his game after seriously injuring his knee by performing in a holding role to dictate the tempo of games. Robson feels it is sensible in the modern era to adopt such a conservative*approach and it also reflects the thinking of coaches at the highest level.
"I think that when you get older, you do tend to try and save your energy by sitting in midfield," explained the former Reds captain in an exclusive interview with ManUtd.com. "Also, tactically, a lot of coaches, especially the ones who have come in from Europe, have always liked this sitting midfielder to be really totally defensive but also to be a really good passer of the ball.
"You get that these days rather than box-to-box midfielders, which we had in the 1970s and 1980s. If you look back at people like John Wark, who scored a*number of goals for Liverpool and Ipswich, we had quite a*lot of players like that."
Bryan Robson was speaking at the filming of the official Manchester United Greatest Ever XI DVD.

Football Legend Bryan Robson Set for Airtel Rising Stars Football Clinic
FORMER English Premier League star Bryan Robson is among a group of Manchester United Soccer Schools Coaching staff who will be conducting a short football clinic in Tanzania from October 30 to November 3, this year.
Six talented youths from Tanzania will join up with four other best players from neighbouring Kenya, two youngsters from Malawi and two others from Sierra Leone for the four-day football clinic in Dar es Salaam.
The sextet from Tanzania is Dennis Richard, Seleman Mbovu, Samir Omar, Charles John, Graham Naftali and Kassim Jungu. From Kenya are Naim Ashraf, Mzee Ali Rama, Naomi Njeri and Emily Auma, Sierra Leone's are Patrick Gbinda and Hamza Kamara and Malawi are Amidu Mapila and Chimwemwe Billy.
The youngster secured the opportunity after their sterling performance during the Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) football tournaments in their respective countries and their dreams to train in Tanzania in the Manchester United clinic with football legends is certainly becoming a reality, as Robson and co. are set to arrive in the country on October 27.
As they prepare to proceed into the Dar es Salaam camp designated to transform them to become future stars, the selected players should proudly brace themselves for invaluable footballing lessons from one of the game's all time legends in the mould of Robson.
It is always an honour to have the opportunity to learn from 'greats' of the game and for these lucky youngsters it will be a dream come true to learn the business of the game from one of the most successful players on earth, 'Captain Marvel.'
Born in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, Robson, 44, began his playing career at West Bromwich Albion, before moving on to Manchester United, whom he captained to three FA Cups and a European Cup Winners' Cup. He also won two FA Premiership winners medals. Robson, is best remembered for his good goal-scoring record; terrific anticipation, movement, timing on and off the ball; was fiercely competitive and brave; possessed high levels of stamina; tackled, passed well and was also a good header of the ball.
Robson's playing career spanned 700 games over which he scored more than 175 goals, leading him to be recognised as one of the greatest players for England and Manchester United in history. He is one of the highest scoring midfielders in the Red Devil's history. Robson represented England on 90 occasions, making him the sixth most capped England player of all-time and has the eleventh highest goalscoring tally with 26.
His 26 international goals included a hat-trick against Turkey in 1984 and a strike after just 27 seconds against France in the 1982 World Cup, which was the second-fastest goal of the tournament's final stages. He captained his country 65 times, with only Bobby Moore and Billy Wright having captained England on more occasions.
Robson is also known by the nicknames "Robbo" and "Captain Marvel." Former Barcelona and England national team coach Bobby Robson once stated that Robson was, along with Alan Shearer, the best British player he ever worked with. In August 2011, Robson was voted as the greatest ever Manchester United player from a poll of ex-Manchester United Players as part of a new book, 19, released to celebrate their 19th league title win.
He was the manager of Sheffield United, being relieved of his first team duties at the club in February 2008. The following month, Robson returned to Manchester United as an ambassador for the club. On 23rd September 2009, Robson was appointed manager of the Thailand national team. He resigned on 8th June, 2011. Robson was awarded the OBE in the January 1990 New Year's Honours.
In 1998, he was named among the list of Football League 100 Legends and was made an Inaugural Inductee of the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002 in recognition of his impact on the English game as a player. Apart from Robson, three professional youth coaches from Manchester United Soccer School will be on hand to provide the youngsters with skills, drills and other key aspects of the game. These are Mark Fagan, Paul Bright and Billy Miller.
Fanagan, in particular, has many years coaching experience at a variety of different levels from elite to amateur level. He studied a degree in Coaching and Sports Development for three years at Manchester Metropolitan University. He is currently working with Manchester United Soccer Schools and Rochdale Football Club working in their Academy system.
Mark is a UEFA B qualified coach and a Sports Science lecturer in a Sports College in England. Mark has travelled all over the world coaching and has worked with Furnes Football Club before on two occasions. As for Paul Bright, he has been a coach for Manchester United in Development Centres conducting coaching and talent identification for the Academy.
Currently, he is Head of the Football Academy at the Manchester College. Miller has been working as a mentor and coach at Manchester United Merchandising Limited. He holds FA Goalkeeping Coaching Certificate Level 2 and UEFA B Licence.

Rooney can put Manchester City in their place, says United legend Robson
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/10/21/article-2051987-06BFB6FA000005DC-793_233x533.jpg
Bryan Robson readily admits Manchester City will carry a novel tag into Sunday's Old Trafford derby but remains supremely confident the outcome will look distinctly familiar.
After years of competing for nothing more than local pride, City find themselves challenging for something more substantial after underlining their new-found status as genuine title challengers by edging ahead of their neighbours at the top of the Barclays Premier League.
Former Manchester United legend Robson concedes their threat cannot be taken lightly but still expects his old side to reassert their authority in one of the most eagerly-awaited derbies in recent memory.
Speaking at the Soccerex Supplement at The Lowry at Salford Quays, ex-United and England skipper Robson said: 'Everyone at United would be talking things over at the start of the season and saying they would expect Chelsea and City to be title challengers, and nothing I've seen so far makes me want to change that opinion.
'City are going to be a real threat. They have some excellent players within a strong squad, and the manager, Roberto Mancini, has decent experience, so it's going to be a really close, competitive game.
'Games like this are nearly always settled by the top players. That is how reputations are built, by performing in the big games. City have a few, like Sergio Aguero and David Silva. They are players who are going to have a say in the outcome and could win it for City, if they perform as they can. For United, Nani, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Ashley Young are all capable of winning the game.
'I never felt City were a threat before - certainly not in my playing days - but you can sense a bit of excitement among their fans now, because they feel they've got a real chance this time. They've never really believed that before, but they are beginning to now.
Big day: City will need their top players to perform in the Manchester derby
'Whichever top players turn up and perform will win it for their team. It could either side's star names who do it, but I'm confident it will be United's. I think we will win, because our home form has been outstanding for a good while now and the lads didn't take too much out of themselves in Europe on Tuesday night.
'They played at a pace that was comfortable, and they have a very strong, almost injury-free squad at their disposal.
'It would be wrong to talk about it as some sort of title decider. It's far too early for that. But if you do put one over teams who are your main rivals for the title, it does stand you in good stead. We have already taken points off Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, so it would put us in a really strong position if we won.'
Mancini could further reinforce City's title bid in the January transfer window, but Robson is sceptical about the idea that money alone can take them all the way.
'It's true City can throw money at it if they identify an area that needs strengthening, but it's not always as easy as that,' he said. 'Trying to get players who will actually improve a squad like theirs will be difficult. There aren't many out there, for one thing, and for another, they will take some prising away.
'The very best players are already at top clubs and may well not want to leave. It would be easy for United to say they could overhaul Barcelona by splashing out on Messi, Iniesta and Xavi, but how do you get them out of the Nou Camp? It is easier said than done.
'I believe, for all City's money, we still have the edge over them, because we have the tradition and are still winning the big prizes. Take money out of the equation, and players would want to go to United more than to City, because of the tradition and what the club is all about.
'Of course, money is a factor, as we saw in the summer with Nasri. United were interested in him, but he went to City for the money. He also probably felt he would be playing more at City, but the fact is they can top the rest on wages.
'It can be a problem keeping everyone happy, with a big squad, but it's not so much of a problem for United, because the manager has brought in quite a few younger players, and they are more prepared to accept taking a turn on the bench. They are learning their trade and realise they won't be playing every week.'
Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to silence his 'noisy neighbours', but that is not his main motivation, according to Robson.
'I don't know about City's threat putting a spring in the manager's step, I think it's more to do with the young players he's bringing through,' he said. 'I watched him on the pre-season tour of America, and I could see it as he introduced some of the younger lads into the team. They played some great stuff, and he could see those young players coming into the group and developing really well alongside the more experienced lads.
'He got excited about that, and what he wants to do over the next couple of years is develop these kids and make sure they fulfil their potential. It is a really good age group, and he will challenge them to continue the success story and emulate last season's title win.
'He won't be bothered about City and the fact they are local rivals. There is always going to be a challenger, and it doesn't matter who it is. It has been Chelsea and Arsenal in recent years, and now City are emerging as a real threat.
'But all the manager sees is a challenge, not a name. He's not concerned about it being City. It could be Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or anyone, it's just a case of beating them. His approach is to identify who the biggest threat is going to be, then focus on making sure he is better than them. And he does it, more often than not.'
Peter Reid is another confirmed Fergie admirer but is backing City to hold their own, at least.
'I was the manager the last time City finished above United in the League, so that just proves how strong and successful they have been in the meantime,' he said. 'You've got to give them all the credit for that. The manager has been the figure head. He must have built three or four sides and that a testimony to what he has done.
'I always got on with him. I remember having scampi and chips and a bottle of beer in my office at Maine Road when the youth teams were playing. A lot of people have a go at him but he is passionate about his football club. He doesn't suffer fools gladly, as a few people have found to their cost. I've had a rocket off him once or twice, but he's got it back after a game too!
'He's a genuinely fair man, though. You can have your say and he wil have his. I always found him a very, very difficult competitor. But I'm like that too, and once it has gone, its gone. And that is all you can ask for.
'It's going to be some game on Sunday, and City are a coming force. But I think it is very diffuclt to say the rise of City means the fall of United. Certainly when Sir Matt Busby stepped down, they found it difficult to keep the success going. But I'm sure United are bright enough to get the right manager in place [when Fergie retires.
'Whoever follows Sir Alex has got a job on. Manchester City are improving all the time. They have won one FA Cup and there is still a long way to go but there is a fantastic competition between them now.
'I don't see it as the rise of one empire and the fall of another one. I think we are going to see two empires in one city, competing against each other.
'United are not going to fall away. They won the FA Youth Cup last season. They are still bringing players through. Welbeck and Cleverley are the latest examples. United are always going to be there as a football club. They are not going to go away. Never.
'But it's going to be fascinating on Sunday. I think United's strength is that they are a great counter-attacking team.I think he will play Nani, Young, Rooney and Hernandez and he will try to suck Man City in and hit them on the break.
'Mancini will play two holding midfield players. Silva could be an important player, if he can get in those holes just off United's back four and in between the back four and the midfield. There are so many tactical facets to the game, it is intriguing.
'I'm not sitting on the fence but I really think it will be a score draw. They are so evenly-matched.
'And the great thing is, I think there is still a feel of the old Manchester City about them. I still see Tony Book around the place, I still see Colin Bell, Tudor Thomas, Bernard Halford – these are all people who kept the club going through difficult times.
'There is still that heartbeat of the old Manchester City, even though this brand new world is upon us. That old Kippax heart is still beating.
'Manchester City fans are very conscious of where they have come from. They have not forgotten that they went down to the old Third Division and they went up through the play-off against Gillingham that year. That spirit is still there. And even though they are living the dream they have still got that as their history.
'I'll tell you how broke they were in the old days. I paid the hotel bill for the team at the Bell House once on my credit card, when we were playing a game in London. I did get it reimbursed, but I don't think that would happen these days!
'I was invited to the recent game against Everton by Brian Marwood, and to City's eternal credit, two of the old employees - the girl who used to work in the kitchen and another girl called June - were in the boardroom having lunch.
'That sort of thing doesn't get into the public domain, but that's not bad, that. Hey, full marks to them. We had a brilliant day and we talked about the old days, the days in the Championship, and the roast beef was fantastic!'

SAMIR NASRI IN IT JUST FOR THE MONEY, SAYS BRYAN ROBSON
By Richard Tanner
http://images.dailyexpress.co.uk/img/dynamic/67/285x214/278982_1.jpg
Bryan Robson never lost a derby in his 14 years at Manchester United
BRYAN ROBSON has accused Manchester United summer target Samir Nasri of joining their rivals just for the money.
Old Trafford legend Robson believes that, while Manchester City’s Abu Dhabi owners have the financial resources to pay the highest wages, United still “have the edge” over their neighbours when it comes to their track record of proven success, world-wide appeal and rich history.
And ‘Captain Marvel’ Robson believes United will prove that, despite City’s £400million outlay on new players over the past three years, they still have a better team by winning tomorrow’s Manchester derby. Sir Alex Ferguson ended his interest in Nasri when City offered to double his wages to £180,000 a week.
“For all City’s money, we [United] still have the edge over them because we have the tradition and are still winning the big prizes,” said Robson. “Take money out of the equation and players would still want to go to United more than to City, because of the history and what the club is all about.
Of course money is a factor, as we saw in the summer with Nasri. United were interested in him, but he went to City for the money. He also probably felt he would be playing more at City, but the fact is they can top the rest on wages.”
With big-money signings come big egos and Robson believes Ferguson has less of a problem keeping his stars happy than City boss Roberto Mancini because he has usually concentrated on buying younger, less established players.
“With a big squad, it can be a problem keeping everyone happy,” added Robson.
“But it’s not so much of a problem for United, because the manager has brought in a few younger players and they are more prepared to accept taking a turn on the bench.
“They are still learning their trade and realise they won’t be playing every week.
“And Fergie does a fantastic job with older players such as Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen, who don’t get that much game time. I go into training now and then and watch the lads and it is noticeable that they all get on with their jobs and play with a smile on their faces.
“It’s clear that they all feel part of things, and that is further evidence of how good the boss is at keeping everything together.”
Robson never lost a derby in his 14 years at United – he was injured for their infamous 5-1 defeat at Maine Road in 1989 – and says City were never good enough in those days to be a title worry. “I was never bothered about City in my playing days,” he said.
Now, Robson concedes City are a genuine threat but still backs United to come out on top tomorrow.

Robson’s in for Sunset
By: Ron Shillingford
Bryan Robson is the legendary midfield dynamo who played for Manchester United and England in the Eighties and he is over next month as the latest sporting name to help raise funds for Sunset Football Club.
Every year Sunset bring over a past big sporting name for their annual fundraiser. Last year it was former world heavyweight champion Frank Bruno, the year before World Cup winner Jack Charlton and before that another World Cup winner in Geoff Hurst and before him it was Peter Shilton.
Robson, 54, had a glittering career starting with West Brom, Man United and Middlebrough before moving into management with varying success. He is widely respected for his achievements in football and a great raconteur so this should be a superb night.
An Evening With Bobby Robson - who happens to own an apartment at the Ritz-Carlton - is at Fidel Murphy’s pub on West Bay Road on 12 November from 6.30pm. Tickets are $75. As usual, there will be a buffet meal, then a question and answer period followed by an auction of football memorabilia.
Sunset player-coach Neil Purton is an organiser of the event. He said: “There’s been a lot of interest. Obviously, Bryan is a Man Utd and England legend and appears to be a popular choice of celebrity. There are a lot of United supporters here and I am sure Robson would feature in anyone’s best ever United team.
“We expect a full house. Our only concern is that there may be some people off the island due to the public holiday. We normally run the event in May or June but we are a bit late this year as we were trying to get the right celebrity rather than just bringing anyone out.
“We want to say thanks to AON Insurance who are our platinum sponsors and current Man Utd sponsors. We thank them and all the other sponsors for their support.
“I’m not sure what most people will want to hear about his career. There are some many great moments as a player and manager, probably his playing days at Man Utd back in the 80s will get a lot of interest, particularly around the time when Sir Alex took over as manager in 1986 and changed the club. I’m sure he will have some good stories to tell!”

By: Ron Shillingford | ron@cfp.ky
Bryan Robson, the legendary former Manchester and England midfielder, is this year’s football great coming over for Sunset Football Club’s fundraiser.
With the red half of Manchester still in the doldrums after their 6-1 humiliation by City last week, Robson’s visit comes at an appropriate time for local United fans to have their spirits lifted.
Sunset’s Bryan Robson weekend starts at Fidel Murphy’s on Saturday 12 November. Tickets, priced $75 are now on sale at Fidel’s or from Neil Purton or pick up at BCQS Offices at 2nd Floor Whitehall House, opposite Lobster Pot. Robson will be speaking and have a question and answer session with the audience and signing autographs. There will be a raffle and auction of football memorabilia. A buffet is included in the price. The evening will be hosted by Sunset’s funny man Robert Woods and if previous years are to go by it will be another great night.
In addition, a golf day is arranged for the next day which is a two-man scramble. Robson will be playing and available before and after the event. Cost is $100 for golf club members or $150 for non-members. There are lots of prizes and CayBrew will be providing the beer.
This is Sunset’s main fundraising event for the year and they are urging anyone interested to show their support. Gary McLean is organising the golf.

Sang "Captain Marvel" berbagi cerita nih ...
The F factor: Bryan Robson and Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson
Bryan Robson knows all about the trophies. He has seen at first hand the legendary drive and dedication.
Yet the thing that astounds Robson most about Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is his staggering capacity just to be involved.
The man dubbed 'Captain Marvel' actually marvels at the tireless nature of a man who is about to celebrate an incredible 25 years in the Old Trafford managerial hotseat, and will reach his 70th birthday on New Year's Eve.
“Everybody knows the work Sir Alex puts in around the club,” said Robson.
“They know about his teams, the trophies, the media, buying and selling of players.
“The most amazing part for me is that he still goes to a million functions. There are times when you cannot believe he is there.
“He might have three of the most important games of the season coming up in that week but he is at three of the functions you have been at.
“At his age, you think he should be tucked up in bed so he can concentrate on the football.
“It just shows the type of person he is. He has this incredible stamina. I have no idea where he gets it from.”
Robson was there from the start of course. Lured to Old Trafford by Ron Atkinson in 1981 when it would have made far more sense to join Liverpool, the best English player of his generation had to be content with a couple of FA Cup wins and a squad that may have had a vibrant social scene but was going nowhere fast until November 6, 1986.
“Liverpool in the 1980s had world-class players and were very difficult to dislodge,” reflected Robson.
“Also, they never seemed to get many injuries. They would win the league with a 16-man squad. We had great players, who matched Liverpool in one-off games. But as soon as we picked up injuries and suspensions we didn’t do quite as well.
“Ron wanted everyone to enjoy the training. He was jovial. Sir Alex had a different approach. There was a real discipline about him and far more organised in terms of setting up his team.”
Whether Ferguson would have been afforded three-and-a-half years to get it right these days, in an era where demands for Arsene Wenger’s dismissal can be aired despite his track record at Arsenal, is a debatable point.
Sir Bobby Charlton has insisted Ferguson’s future was never discussed prior to the fateful FA Cup tie at Nottingham Forest in January 1990.
Yet it was actually a year after that, in Rotterdam, that Ferguson really came of age as United boss.
“Beating Barcelona in the Cup Winners’ Cup final was a massive turning point,” he said. “Although we had won the FA Cup the previous year, we were still very inconsistent in the league.
“Rotterdam gave us the knowledge we could beat top-quality teams and string results together at home.
“Confidence grew from that moment on.”
Only four times since then have United ended a campaign without some sort of silverware.
Twelve times they have won the title, allowing them to eclipse Liverpool as England’s most successful team.
And through it all, Ferguson has remained at the helm, master of all he surveys.
“You don’t expect anyone to be at a club the level of United for as long as he has been,” said Robson. “It shows first his success but also what a hard worker he is.
“Because, in my own managerial career, I don’t feel I am going to get the sort of challenge I want, I am quite happy to fall back onto the ambassadorial role with United. I never had that feeling with the boss.
“If he had parted company with United 10 years ago, I am absolutely certain he would have found a challenge to enthuse him.
“It is impossible to win what he has without being able to renew yourself and the biggest trick is that he doesn’t let people around him lose their hunger either.”

Dukungan Captain Marvel untuk juniornya nih :)
Robson: Rooney must make difference against City
By Derick Allsop
Manchester United’s fabled Captain Marvel is rallying the troops again and *demanding they stand up and be counted against City today.
Bryan Robson, United’s inspirational leader for over a decade, insists main men Wayne Rooney and Nani can and must make amends for the shambles at Newcastle.
And he points to the example set by 38-year-old Ryan Giggs, whose brilliance still shines bright in the gloom. Robson, an alarmed spectator at United’s 3-0 drubbing on Wednesday, said: “Too many players didn’t perform against Newcastle. Rooney and Nani, big players for United, were poor on the night.
“It’s a massive cup-tie and there’s no doubt a tough one for United. City are a decent team with a strong squad. But we’ve seen United bounce back so many times before and they can do it again – they have to. Those big players know what’s required of them.
“The boss will not have to use his motivational skills to pick them up for this. They’ll be right up for it and determined to put one over on City.
“There are still question marks over City’s ability to handle the nerves and pressures. That could prove the decisive factor.” Robson (above) admits an aerial weakness has undermined United’s cause since *Nemanja Vidic was ruled out for the *season, while the absence of Darren *Fletcher through illness has seriously reduced their midfield options.
Fergie maintains he will not panic, but Robson thinks he could go out and spend if the right player becomes available.
“If the injury situation doesn’t ease and a stand-out player is available who can strengthen his squad, he’ll do it,” said Robson. “But there won’t be any panic buys.”

Sebuah yang artikel membahas kehebatan Robbo sang Captain Marvel :)
Yap: The Story of Captain Marvel
By Kelvin Yap
ESPNSTAR.com takes a look at the combative career of Manchester United's longest-serving captain and one of the best midfielders of his generation, Bryan Robson.
http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/734048_33_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=734048&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=10&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33
On 16 March 2011, it was revealed that Robson had been diagnosed with early throat cancer and had undergone an operation two weeks earlier to remove the tumour.
On 26 August 2011, Robson announced that he had beaten cancer and would continue his role as ambassador of former club Manchester United.
For those who grew up watching Robson, it was almost a given that he'll recover.
For those who haven't had the privilege of watching him in action, allow me to bring you the story behind one of the hardiest men in football.
Introducing... Captain Marvel!
Imagine Liverpool's Steven Gerrard in his prime, going box to box for 90 minutes, playing his heart out for his club; capable of dribbling, passing, shooting, tackling and basically hoisting the entire side on his broad together. That's basically Robson back in the late 80s.
The similarities don't stop there
http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/734042_10_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=734042&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=33&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33
Robson, like Gerrard, played at a time when his club's bitter rivals were the dominant force in England. For the majority of Gerrard's career, United have held the upper hand. For the majority of Robson's career, Liverpool held all the aces and Robson had to be content with winning the European Cup Winners' Cup, FA Cup and League Cup.
The similarity between both their career arcs is remarkable; some would even call it downright eerie. Former Manchester United player-turn-pundit Gary Neville observed this in his weekly Mail column in November 2011
Neville wrote: "Gerrard has been one of the best players in the Premier League over the past 13 years. He is a player who could have played in any of the leading sides in the world in that time.
"But when I read his words, about his desire to win the title with Liverpool, it reminded me of Bryan Robson at Manchester United in the eighties in the era when I was growing up supporting the club, and when at times he was like a one-man team.
"Both players have shown immense loyalty to their clubs in the greatest years of their careers and, like Gerrard, Robson spent most of his time wondering whether he would ever win a league title.
"United in the Bryan Robson days were very much like Liverpool today."
Now that we have the context, let's go back to where it all began for Robson.
"There isn't an injury known to man that Bryan Robson hasn't had." - Alan Parry, football commentator. Part I
Born in Chester-le Street, County Durham, the Robson family was a typical football-mad Newcastle-supporting family in Geordie Nation.
Bryan Robson was the captain of his school and district teams and was picked by West Brom to play for their reserves when he was 16. He moved on to the senior team at 18 and suffered his first serious injury a year later.
http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/734045_10_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=734045&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=33&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33
Playing against Tottenham as a makeshift left-back, Robson broke his left leg in a tackle with Spurs' Chris Jones. He came back in a reserves match a mere two months later only to re-injure the same leg. A year and a half later, and this won't surprise you, he incurred yet another major breakage - this time a right ankle against Manchester City.
These were the first of many injuries to come for Robson, whose unwillingness to compromise on tackles was as much a feature of his game as his passionate driving runs right through the heart of midfield.
Despite or perhaps because of that, he was a rising star at West Brom - helping the Baggies to a third place finish in the league (their highest ever finish to date) and a place in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals.
When then-manager Ron Atkinson went to Manchester United, it was rumoured that Robson would follow his manager, for he seemed to be destined for bigger things. True enough, Atkinson decided to sign his star player from the Hawthorns for a then-British record transfer fee of £1.5 Million in September 1981.
He famously said about Robson: "With this player you're not taking a gamble, what you're buying is pure gold"
Captain Marvel appears in England
By the time he moved to Old Trafford, Robson was already an England international, having earned his first senior cap in 1980. Two years later, at the age of 25, he was named captain of the Three Lions with national coach Bobby Robson (no relation) considering him to be the best player in the country at the time.
It was with the national team that Robson first earned the sobriquet 'Captain Marvel' - showing the same heart, unflagging spirit and quality that were hallmarks of his game at the club level. The desire to serve his country and unite the players for a common cause was apparent in a famous incident that is now the stuff of legends.
At the 1982 FIFA World Cup against France, Robson entered the record books by scoring after 27 seconds - the second-fastest goal in World Cup history. (Hakan Sakur would later obliterate that record by scoring after 10 seconds in the third-place against South Korea in 2002)
http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/734041_10_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=734041&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=33&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33
He received an inscribed gold watch for the achievement but Robson being Robson, looked at the role of his team-mates saying "How do you split this amongst the England team?"
Serious or tongue-in-cheek, that remark was typical Robson.
But despite the adoration from manager and fans alike, Robson played only 90 games for England over his 11-year international career, mainly due to untimely injuries which coincided with World Cups.
"There isn't an injury known to man that Bryan Robson hasn't had." - Alan Parry, football commentator. Part II
While his national career may have left something to be desired, his achievements at club level can stand up to any scrutiny.
Loved passionately by the fans, Robson led from the front time and again. And again. And again.
A typical United attack would start from the back with Robson winning the ball in their own box, setting off the move from behind and end with him at the opposite end moments later either providing the final pass or taking the shot on himself.
Unsurprisingly, his all-action style exacted a huge physical toll on him. The human body is simply not built for the strain he put it through every time United took the pitch.
Robson tore his ankle ligaments in the 1983 League Cup semi-final over Arsenal, an injury which condemned him to the sidelines as United went on to lose to, who else, Liverpool.
Typically though, the midfielder willed himself back into fitness and made the FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal two months later, leading the team to a 2-1 win en route to his career's first silverware. As captain he would guide the team to two more FA Cup triumphs and a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup title.
http://www.espnstar.com/servlet/file/734040_10_preview.jpg?ITEM_ENT_ID=734040&ITEM_VERSION=1&COLLSPEC_ENT_ID=33&FILE_SERVICE_CONF_ID=33
However, it wasn't until in the later part of his career that he finally won the English League title, fulfilling a cherished dream and laying the foundation on which Sir Alex Ferguson's era of dominance would rest.
"Winning the Championship is like taking a 26-year ball and chain from around our legs. Now we can go forward, and hopefully dominate English football for the next 10 years, like Liverpool did." Robson said after lifting the Premier League trophy as captain in 1993.
A captain to follow
More importantly, Robson set an example for many hard men that followed his footsteps at Manchester United - Steve Bruce, Roy Keane and even Nemanja Vidic - all of them willing to put their body on the line for the club. And not surprisingly, all of the players above ended up with the captain's armband at United.
His numerous injuries may have showed him to be human, but his ability to bounce back and the desire to keep giving his all was proof that Captain Marvel was truly something out of a superhero epic.

(Reuters) - Former England and Manchester United star Bryan Robson, who overcame throat cancer last year, said on Tuesday he could return to a coaching role with an international team.
"Only about four or five months ago I resigned from Thailand. I was national coach there and I must say the two years I was there I really enjoyed it," Robson told a news conference in the Bangladesh capital.
"It was a great experience. So I would never rule out being a manager of national team again.
"I don't think I would go back into club management, but international management does interest me."
Robson, the longest-serving captain of Manchester United, is on a promotional visit to Dhaka as an ambassador for his former club along with former striker Dwight Yorke.
"The ambassadorial role with Manchester United is just little bit more relaxing, away from the pressures of club management--- at this moment I am enjoying it," said Robson.
Robson, who played for Manchester United for 13 years from 1981 to 1994 and was capped by England 90 times, ended his stint as Thailand coach in June 2011.
He was diagnosed last March with throat cancer but recovered after undergoing surgery and radiotherapy.
