Carroll leaves Rams
Derby confirm goalkeeper's exit

Derby County have confirmed Roy Carroll's departure from the club by mutual consent.

The goalkeeper moved to Pride Park from Rangers in January 2008 and has made 38 appearances for the Rams over the last year-and-a-half.

He still had more two years remaining on his contract but opportunities have become limited under Nigel Clough.

A decision was taken over the weekend that Carroll should leave and the news has now been made official.

The 31-year-old has spent time training with OB Odense and could now complete a move to the Danish side.

ANDREW COLE is in line to join the Town coaching staff.

Manager Lee Clark wants his former Newcastle and Fulham teammate to pass on his goalscoring expertise to strikers Jordan Rhodes,Theo Robinson, Lee Novak and Robbie Simpson.

Clark is focused on tonight’s home League I meeting with Brighton (7.45) but has scheduled talks with the 37-year-old ex-England, Manchester United and Blackburn ace later this week.

Cole is the second highest scorer in Premier League history with 187 goals (behind Alan Shearer on 260).

He has been working with another old teammate, Paul Ince, at Town’s League I rivals MK Dons. But Clark is optimistic he can get Manchester-based Cole on board, saying: “I think he has a lot to offer.

“His goalscoring record speaks for itself. He is a master of the art, and I think our players, especially the frontmen, would really benefit from his guidance.

“We got on well as players and we’ve kept in close touch over the years. The plan is to talk over the next few days and see what we can work out.”

Greening close to Cottage switch

West Bromwich Albion manager Roberto Di Matteo has revealed that Fulham are closing in on the signing of Jonathan Greening.Di Matteo left his captain out of Tuesday night's 3-2 win at Peterborough United as the two clubs are in advanced negotiations over a fee for the former Manchester United and Middlesbrough midfielder.

Greening handed in a transfer request last month after Fulham had a £4million bid for his services turned down.

"Basically the two clubs are negotiating," Di Matteo told his club's official website.

"His team-mates are fighting for a cause. I didn't feel it was right for him to be involved last night.

"He's been a great professional for us. I spoke to him before the game.

"There has been a lot going on for him in the last five or six weeks but, once again, I have to emphasise he's been very good for us.

"He's been a true professional and it was my decision to pull him out last night."

Berita Bola: Manchester - Di kampung halamannya, Carlos Tevez ternyata punya grup musik yang dia bangun bersama saudaranya. Berhubung sudah jadi pemain Manchester City, dia berniat mengajukan penawaran bisnis dengan Oasis..

Tawaran yang diajukan Tevez buat Gallagher adalah mengajarkan kedua musisi itu untuk mengikuti kelas tarian latin. Tentunya itu tidak cuma-cuma, sebagai kompensasinya striker Argentina itu minta diajari bermusik dengan baik.

Meski tak sampai terkenal di Eropa dan belahan dunia lain, Tevez ternyata sempat membuat grup band bersama saudaranya, Diego, di Buenos Aires. Beberapa tahun lalu band yang diberi nama Piola Vago malah sukses menelurkan sebuah singel berjudul 'Lose Your Control' yang kemudian menjadi hits di sana.

Tevez, yang menjadi frontman dalam bandnya tersebut, merasa kalau dirinya masih butuh belajar banyak untuk bisa mengembangkan dirinya. Karena itulah dia kemudian mengajukan kerjasama dengan Gallagher bersaudara.

"Saya tahu banyak soal Oasis, tapi sulit untuk tinggal di Manchester selama dua tahun dan tak mengetahui siapa mereka - plus mereka juga sangat terkenal di Argentina," ungkap Tevez seperti dikutip dari TheSun.

"Musik mereka mungkin sedikit berbeda dengan Piola Vago, tapi di sisi lain kami sangat sama - mereka punya Noel dan Liam sementara kami punya saya sendiri dan Diego. Jadi bisa dibilang kalau kami adalah versi latih dari Oasis," sambung striker Manchester City tersebut.

Kepindahan Tevez dari Manchester United ke City membuka peluang Gallagher bersaudara menerima proposal 'bisnis' yang diajukan striker 25 tahun itu. Seperti diketahui duo motor Oasis tersebut adalah fans setia The Citizens.

"Mereka bisa mengajari kami beberapa hal dan kami akan mengajari mereka cari menari versi latin, saya pikir itu akan menyenangkan. Musik adalah sesuatu yang ingin saya berikan waktu lebih banyak lagi setelah sepakbola. Akan sangat hebat jika bisa bermain bersama yang terbaik."

"Sound kami berbeda dibanding apa yang sering dipakai orang di Inggris, tapi Anda harus memberi kami kesempatan. Anda mungkin menyukainya," pungkas Tevez berpromosi. (dtc/din/mrp).

Madrid - Persaingan untuk memperebutkan tempat di lini depan Real Madrid kian memanas. Para penyerang muda harus waspada karena ada jago tua yang kembali: Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Setelah dibekap cedera lutut serius pada bulan November dan memaksanya masuk ruang operasi, Ruudtje --sapaan Van Nistelrooy-- akhirnya kembali ke lapangan saat Madrid melahap Rosenborg di Trofi Bernabeu, Selasa (25/8/2009) dinihari WIB.

Puluhan ribu penggemar Madrid yang memadati Stadion Santiago Bernabeu serentak memberikan aplaus meriah saat Ruudtje masuk menggantikan Kaka di 15 menit terakhir pertandingan.

"Saya merasakan emosi yang kuat hari ini. Saya sangat tersentuh oleh penyambutan yang diberikan fans saat saya pemanasan dan saat masuk lapangan. Ini luar biasa," ujar Ruudtje di situs Madrid.

Tak ada gol yang berhasil disarangkan Ruudtje malam tadi. Tetapi kehadiran striker Belanda berusia 33 tahun itu jelas merupakan ancaman untuk Cristiano Ronaldo, Gonzalo Higuain, atau Karim Benzema yang berambisi mengisi posisi ujung tombak El Real.

"Saya bekerja amat keras berbulan-bulan memulihkan diri dan saya telah melewati sejumlah momen sulit yang akhirnya bisa saya atasi. Saya terkejut dengan sambutan malam ini, bahkan kata-kata tak bisa menjelaskannya," kata Ruudtje.

Akibat cedera parahnya itu, sepanjang musim lalu Ruudtje hanya mencatat 12 penampilan yang hebatnya ditandai dengan 10 gol. Sebuah catatan yang jauh dibanding musim debutnya (2006-07) saat ia mencetak 25 gol dari 37 pertandingan di La Liga saja.

"Hal terburuk dari cedera itu adalah saya tak bisa berlari selama enam bulan. Saya harus menghabiskan empat jam sehari di gim dan tidak bisa menginjak lapangan. Saya bersyukur semua itu telah terlewati," ungkap mantan striker Manchester United itu.

"Ini adalah sebuah tim yang bagus. Para pemainnya luar biasa dan kami semua sangat senang. Kami akan menjaganya terus seperti ini," tandas Ruudtje.

Danny Webber completes free transfer switch to Portsmouth

Portsmouth have completed the signing of former Manchester United striker Danny Webber on a free transfer.

Webber was released by Sheffield United at the end of last season and has been courted by a number of Championship sides.

Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Swansea City have all held talks with the 27-year-old free agent.

But Webber has secured a move to the Barclays Premier League after Paul Hart offered the forward a two-year-deal at Fratton Park.

The striker will help fill the void left by David Nugent - who is on loan at Burnley, as Pompey look to improve after their poor start to the season.

Mark Robins appointed manager of Barnsley

LONDON (AP) -Former Manchester United striker Mark Robins, the man credited with saving Alex Ferguson's job in 1990, was hired Wednesday as manager of League Championship team Barnsley.

The 39-year-old Robins will move to Barnsley from Rotherham after agreeing to a compensation fee with his former club.

"I am delighted to be here after a protracted few days and I can now start the job,'' Robins said. "It has been frustrating and I have been kept waiting in the wings a little but at the same time thankful that it has all been sorted out and resolved. Barnsley FC have given me a fantastic opportunity.''

Robins began his career as a striker at Old Trafford in 1986. During his six-year stay, Robins' most memorable moment came in the third round of the 1990 FA Cup against Nottingham Forest, when he came off the bench to score the winning goal. The victory was thought to have saved the job of the under-pressure Ferguson, who had endured three trophy-less seasons as manager at United.

Following another goal in the FA Cup semifinal replay against Oldham, United went on to lift the trophy at Wembley.

Before his move to Barnsley, Robins spent nine years at Rotherham, during which he was a player and assistant manager before beginning a 2 1/2-year spell as manager in 2007.

Robins, who asked to speak to Barnsley about the job, replaces manager Simon Davey, who left by "mutual consent'' on Aug. 29 following a string of poor results that left the team with one point from five league games.

Beckham Bakal Punya Klub Sepakbola Sendiri

Los Angeles - Jika nantinya pensiun membela LA Galaxy, David Beckham sepertinya masih akan berkecimpung di Major League Soccer. Dia dalam waktu dekat akan membeli sebuah klub sepakbola di Kanada.

Nama klub yang kini tengah dijajaki Beckham untuk diakuisisi adalah Montreal Impact. Meski saat ini masih berkutat di Divisi I, klub tersebut kini sedang berupaya untuk menjadi salah satu pemegang franchise MLS pada tahun 2012.

Rencana Beckham memiliki klub sepakbola sendiri tersiar setelah gelandang Internasional Inggris itu diketahui melakukan pertemuan dengan pihak ketiga yang mewakili Joey Saputo. Saputo adalah seorang pengusaha asal Amerika Serikat yang merupakan bos Montreal Impact.

Berdasarkan kontraknya dengan Galaxy, Beckham diperbolehkan menjadi pemilik bersama sebuah klub sepakbola di MLS mulai tahun 2012. Gelandang 34 tahun itu sendiri sudah lama menyatakan hasrat untuk memiliki klub sepakbola sendiri.

"Saya memiliki hak untuk memiliki franchise MLS, yang akan segera saya lakukan segera setelah saya berhenti bermain," ungkap Beckham di TimesOnline.

Saputo sebelumnya juga mengonfirmasi kalau pihaknya sudah melakukan pertemuan dengan investor potensial dua bulan lalu. Namun siapa penanam modal baru tersebut tak diketahui lantaran dia menolak memberikan informasi.

"Saya katakan iya, kami tengah didekati sejak dua bulan lalu, tapi saya tak bisa bilang siapa orangnya. Saya pikir Montreal akan jadi kandidat yang hebat untuk menjadi tim ke-19 di MLS, tak peduli siapapun yang berada di belakangnya," terang Saputo.

Soal keikutsertaan tim asal Kanada, MLS sebelumnya telah berkomitmen untuk terus mengembangkan kompetisi hingga beberapa tahun ke depan. Selain Montreal yang jadi kandidat untuk tahun 2012, The Philadelphia Union akan mulai gabung tahun depan serta Vancouver dan Portland menyusul di tahun 2011

Hibs boss Hughes admits interest in Liam Miller

Former Man Utd, Celtic and Sunderland midfielder on shortlist

Hibs boss John Hughes has today revealed that he is interested in signing former Manchester United midfielder Liam Miller.

28-year-old Miller is currently without a club after he was released by Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season.

Hughes has admitted the former Celtic, Leeds Utd and Sunderland player is on a list of “4 or 5” options on a list of out-of-contact players he is considering bringing to Easter Road.

Miller has played 20 times and scored 1 goal at international level for the Republic of Ireland.

Hughes said:

"We have a lot of irons in the fire and he's only one of four or five on our list. When there are good players going about you feel can enrich your squad then you have to think about them.

"Miller is of a good age, a good football player who has maybe lost his way a wee bit but who still has his best years in front of him.

"But we are nowhere near to concluding any business, we haven't even spoken to him."

Hibs are already top heavy in the midfield department, but Miller would bring real quality to the team.

Other players rumoured to be on Yogi's "list" include ex Hearts player Rudi Skacel, who left Southampton during the summer, German international Moritz Volz, recently released by Premiership side Fulham, and former Hibs midfielder Guillaume Beuzelin, released by Coventry City.

Striker Atletico Madrid, Diego Forlan, mengungkapkan alasan penjualannya oleh manajer Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, tentang tipe sepatu yang harus dipakainya.

"Ferguson ingin agar aku bermain dengan sepatu bergigi panjang, yang bisa ditukar sesuai dengan kondisi lapangan, tapi aku lebih nyaman memakai yang pendek," ujar Forlan.

"Aku bilang akan mengubahnya tapi aku tidak melakukannya, dan saat melawan Chelsea aku terpeleset di depan gawang dan gagal menuntaskan sebuah peluang."

"Setelahnya, aku masuk kamar ganti terburu-buru, tapi Ferguson memergokiku. Dia ambil sepatu itu dan melemparnya. Itu pertandingan terakhirku untuk United."

Pertandingan tersebut terjadi 15 Agustus 2004 saat Forlan tampil sebagai pemain pengganti pada menit ke-73. United dikalahkan Chelsea, yang dilatih Jose Mourinho, 1-0.

Sepanjang karirnya di Old Trafford, Forlan hanya mencetak 17 gol dalam 98 pertandingan.

Namun, karirnya berubah saat bermain di Primera Liga Spanyol seiring kesuksesan dua kali menyabet Sepatu Emas Eropa.

Kini, Forlan enggan memicu pertikaian dengan Ferguson dan bahkan sang manajer meminta nasihatnya untuk pemain potensial dari Amerika Selatan.

"Saat kami di London [bersama Villarreal sebelum laga Liga Champions melawan Arsenal], Ferguson muncul di hotel," kenang Forlan.

"Aku masih punya hubungan baik dengan Sir Alex dan saudaranya, Martin. Kami kerap mengobrol dan terkadang dia menanyakan pemain Amerika Selatan bagus yang kukenal."

Forlan akan kembali bermain menghadapi Chelsea pada Liga Champions, 21 Oktober mendatang.

Darren Ferguson was sacked as Peterborough United boss on Monday - a week after Mirror Sport revealed he was facing the axe.

And the Championship's bottom side was left looking less than Posh following their lame denial of our exclusive that Sir Alex Ferguson's boy was on his last legs.

Ferguson was given the chop by chairman Darragh MacAnthony just after losing to leaders Newcastle United, but the move had already been lined up before the match.

The young Scot had been summoned from a coaching course in Wales to be warned about his need for instant results - and he failed to deliver at the Toon on Saturday.

Peterborough denied that Ferguson was under pressure but sources close to the young gaffer reveal he had previously been told to start getting results by demanding MacAnthony weeks ago.

And pals of Fergie junior also reveal that he is relieved to be axed as he had grown frustrated with the expectations and financial restraints at London Road. He could well be snapped up quickly.

Ferguson took Peterborough from the League Two obscurity he found them in and guided them to back-to-back promotions. But that was forgotten when his team made a slow start to the Championship campaign.

Now Posh will start looking for a successor, trying to cover their embarrassment in a hurry after their attempts to hide the Ferguson crisis.

Just a week ago their reaction was: "Peterborough United would like to state that the story in the Daily Mirror on Monday claiming that Darren Ferguson was called for 'summit' talks with chairman Darragh MacAnthony on Sunday is pure fabrication and untrue."

Louis Saha is set to be rewarded by Everton for his flying start to the season with a new contract.

Boss David Moyes is delighted with Saha's return of nine goals, his best start to a Premier League campaign, and will open talks after Christmas.

The former Manchester United striker's current pay-as-you-play deal expires at the end of the season and he has an option for another year.

But Moyes is keen to tie the Frenchman, who joined the Blues 14 months ago, to Goodison Park for longer than that and could offer him a two-and-a-half year deal.

After being blighted by injuries in recent years, Saha is reproducing the form which prompted Sir Alex Ferguson to sign him from Fulham in 2004.

Saha, 31, already has seven in the Premier League and is on course to top his best-ever haul of 13 for Fulham in 2003-04.

Jesper Olsen and Ante Milicic head to Melbourne

The Melbourne Heart Syndicate have named former Manchester United midfielder Jesper Olsen and former Australia international Ante Milicic as assistants to head coach John van 't Schip for the club's debut in the 2010/11 A-League season.

Olsen played in two European Championships with Denmark and spent time at United under Sir Alex Ferguson and at Bordeaux under Aime Jacquet. He has spent the past few years developing the next generation of stars with his own academies in Australia and Europe but this appointment is his first as a coaching professional.

Milicic enjoyed a solid playing career, making six international appearances and also representing teams in both the old NSL and the A-League as well as spending time in the Netherlands, Croatia and Malaysia before turning his hand to coaching.

The 35-year-old combined playing and coaching with his original club Sydney United in the NSW Premier League this season and recently worked as an assistant under Young Socceroos coach Jan Versleijen at the Under-20 World Cup.

"I am excited to be working alongside Ante and Jesper," Van 't Schip said. "They bring qualities to the table, which are important to build a successful football club, and will help us into the future.

"Ante's knowledge of youth football, development and the A-League will prove important, while Jesper's experience in the Dutch system will reinforce the football style and philosophy I hope to integrate."

Club chief Scott Munn added: "Melbourne Heart Syndicate has deliberately set out to build a coaching panel that is capable of delivering exciting football. Encouraging both devotees of the game as well as newcomers to the sport to get on board and support our team (is our goal)."

Benfica sign former Manchester United starlet Brandao
Striker signs deal until 2012

Benfica have agreed a two-and-a-half year contract with Portuguese under-18 international Evandro Brandao, who will move to the Estadio da Luz having left English champions Manchester United during the summer.

The 18-year-old ended a two-year spell at Old Trafford in June, and was thought to be close to signing a deal with Sporting Braga. However, the Eagles have now won the race for Brandao’s signature, and the striker will join the ranks of Jorge Jesus’ side at youth level.

“The verbal agreement was reached last week and yesterday I signed a contract for two-and-a-half years,” Brandao told Maisfutebol. “I will go to the academy team. The most important thing is that I recover the lost time and return to action. That’s what I want most right now. I will work to get up to the senior team. I hope to get that chance.”

Born to a Portuguese father and an Angolan mother, Brandao lived in Portugal for four years before moving to England, aged 11, where he spent time at the academy of modest club Walsall, before earning a dream move to United in 2007.

The 22-year-old full back is currently playing for Danish side FC Horsens, but is keen to move back to England.

Crystal Palace and Swansea are also monitoring the situation closely and scouts have travelled to Denmark to watch the talented youngster play this season on numerous occasions.

The cultured defender is the older brother of Richard Eckersley, who left the Red Devils for Burnley last summer.

The Gunners tidak bersedia untuk memperpanjang kontrak Silvestre karena faktor usia. Meski pemain itu sekarang telah berusia 32 tahun, ia masih cukup tangguh menjaga lini pertahanan dan faktor itulah yang menyebabkan West Ham menjadikannya sebagai target. BREMEN – Mikael Silvestre segera menemukan pelabuhan karir baru setelah di pecat oleh Arsenal. Dia dikabarkan menuju Werder Bremen.

Diberitakan Kicker, Kamis (26/8/2010) Silvestre saat ini tengah melakukan pembicaraan dengan Bremen. Namun diyakini kedua belah pihak segera mencapai kata sepakat dalam waktu dekat.

Proses negosiasi sendiri dilakukan di Genoa karena klub berjuluk Die Grun-Weissen tengah melawat ke kadang Sampdoria guna melakoni laga kedua babak play-off Liga Champions. Silvestre sendiri kabarnya ikut menyaksikan pertandingan dramatis yang berlangsung di Marassi.

“Kami telah melakukan pembicaraan. Kemungkinan Silvestre bergabung sangat terbuka lebar,” ujar direktur olahraga Klaus Allofs.

Dong Fangzhou pleased with Portimonense switch
Striker arrives in Portugal

Former Manchester United prospect Dong Fangzhou will be presented as Portimonense’s latest signing later today, and the Chinese international says he is happy to be moving to Portugal.

Dong, 25, is reported to have agreed a one-year deal with the Algarve club, having left Polish club Legia Warsaw after just four matches - and three goals - at the end of last month, and has already set his sights on a long-term stay with Litos’ side.

“I wanted to play here,” Dong told Record upon his arrival in Portugal. “I was told there was a possibility and I did not hesitate. My reputation? The most important thing is Portimonense. I want to score many goals to help the team. If I feel comfortable, I could stay in Portimonense for longer than one year.”

Dong is best known for his transfer to Manchester United in 2004, although he made just three appearances for the Red Devils before being released in 2008, including a sole league start against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

During his time contracted to United, the Chinese forward was loaned out to Royal Antwerp of Belgium for two seasons, where he enjoyed a prolific spell scoring 33 league goals in 61 games. After leaving Old Trafford, Dong returned to China, where he played for Dalian Shide for 18 months.

Lutut Saha Diemut Lintah

EVERTON, KOMPAS.com — Cedera tak bisa terpisahkan dalam kehidupan pemain sepak bola. Namun, ada banyak cara yang dilakukan pemain untuk memulihkan cederanya. Salah satunya menggunakan lintah.

Penyerang Everton, Louis Saha, sudah merasakan khasiat dari lintah dalam penyembuhan lututnya. Saran itu langsung diberikan oleh neneknya.

"Bagaimana aku menyembuhkan lutut ini, Anda pasti tidak akan percaya. Aku mengunjungi nenek, yang tinggal di Guadeloup, dan aku meletakkan lintah pada lututku yang bengkak," ujar penyerang asal Perancis itu.

Lintah tersebut bisa dikatakan menjadi dewa penolong baginya. Pasalnya, cedera yang dialaminya cukup kronis sehingga penampilan di lapangan jauh dari harapan.

"Sejak saat itu, aku bermasalah dengan cedera lutut. Namun kini bengkaknya sudah jauh berkurang dan aku merasa sangat fit sekarang," tutup Saha.

Stoke defender Shawcross hits back at Wenger

Stoke City's Ryan Shawcross has claimed Arsene Wenger has "got something against me" after the Arsenal boss' latest outburst against the defender.

Wenger accused Shawcross and Robert Huth of fouling Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes as Stoke rallied to find an equaliser in a Premier League game at the Britannia Stadium last month.

Shawcross has been the subject of criticism from Wenger on a number of occasions, following Stoke's home win over the Gunners in their first Premier League campaign and also last season when a clumsy tackle by Shawcross resulted in Aaron Ramsey sustaining a broken leg.

"I don't mind people having their opinions, but if it's not a game involving his players then I don't see the point of bringing up me and Huthy," Shawcross told the Stoke Sentinel. "I've watched the video again and at no point did I go anywhere near Gomes.

"I didn't think I had, but I didn't want to say I hadn't touched him before looking at the whole video to make sure.

"He's obviously got something against me. It's just weird he brings my name into it.

"He always seems to have a problem with Stoke, our manager and certain players. Criticism doesn't bother me, unless it's a false accusation like this one. It's just disappointing he came out and said something that wasn't needed.

"He could have said there was a problem week-in, week-out in the Premier League, but he shouldn't have named individuals."

Stoke reacted angrily when Wenger's comments were first published on Arsenal's official website - making complaints to the Football Association, the Premier League and to Arsenal. The Gunners removed the comments from their website but no further action was taken by the governing bodies.

Wenger had said: "It is more rugby on the goalkeepers than football. When you see the way Shawcross kicked Gomes, how Huth pushed Gomes in the goal, you cannot say that is football anymore."

Manchester United reject Sam Hewson has been offered the chance to turn his career around by non-league Altrincham.

The 21-year-old failed to make the grade at United and never made a first team appearance for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
Hewson had a productive loan spell at Hereford in 2009 when he scored three goals in ten league appearances and he spent last season on loan at Bury.

But United released him earlier this summer and now Blue Square Premier side Altrincham have signed him for free.
Altrincham play their matches at Moss Lane - the venue for United’s Reserve matches - so Hewson will be in familiar surroundings at the non-league club.

Laga Manchester United melawan Glasgow Rangers di fase Grup C Liga Champions dua minggu lalu jadi malam yang tak akan terlupakan Valencia selama hidupnya. Tekel salah satu pemain Rangers di pertengahan babak kedua telah membuat engkel kirinya patah serta mengalami dislokasi yang mengharuskannya absen hingga akhir musim ini.

Jelas dengan cedera yang terhitung parah itu sulit rasanya bagi Valencia untuk bisa kembali ke performa semulanya seperti semula. Bisa jadi Valencia sedikit kehilangan keeksplosifannya dalam bermain.

Sebuah insiden yang pernah pula dirasakan oleh Eduardo Da Silva saat membela Arsenal pada 2008 dan akhirnya ia harus cabut dari Emirates Stadium karena tak bisa tampil dalam bentuk terbaiknya usai istirahat setahun.

Smith pernah mengalaminya pada tahun 2006 ketika engkelnya patah akibat menahan tendangan bebas John Arne Riise saat MU kalah 0-1 dari Liverpool di Piala FA. Diakui Smith cedera itu telah membuatnya sulit kembali ke form terbaiknya dan yang ada malah Smith beralih posisi menjadi gelandang bertahan seperti sekarang.

Usai cedera parah Smith hanya bermain sebanyak 18 kali di seluruh kompetisi pada musim 2006/2007 dan mencetak satu gol. Pada musim 2007/2008 ia pun memutuskan pindah ke Newcastle United.

"Aku tidak lagi jadi pemain yang sama sejak cedera itu - Eduardo pun sama dan dia sangat kesulitan dan hal yang harus kamu lakukan adalah berusaha yang tampil baik saja," tutur Smith kepada Guardian.

"Aku harap Antoniio Valencia, yang aku lihat cederanya sangat parah, akan mampu kembali ke level semula sebelum ia cedera. Butuh waktu lama, aku tahun itu akan sulit namun aku berdoa mudah-mudahan ia dapat melaluinya," harap Smith lanjut.

Mantan pemain Leeds United itu menyarankan agar Valencia jangan dulu terlalu berharap akan bisa kembali ke permainan semulanya. Sebab dapat bermain secara penuh saja sudah merupakan suatu berkah bagi pemain yang baru saja sembuh dari cedera panjang seperti itu.

Bukan tak mungkin Valencia bisa mengikuti jejak Smith yang berubah posisi dalam bermain.

"Akan sangat mudah untuk melakukannya atau malah tidak berjuang sama sekali untuk kembali ke kondisi semula. Dan sangat mudah juga untuk menurunkan standar permainanmu. Aku telah merubah posisiku dan aku masih ingin belajar. Itu bagus untukku dan menarik. Anda akan selalu terlibat di dalamnya," tandas pesepakbola 29 tahun itu.

"Aku seperti mengawali sesuatu yang baru dan Anda harus membuktikan kemampuan Anda dari laga ke laga - itulah sepakbola. Setiap orang ingin bermain dan selama aku masih bisa bermain di level manapun, akan kulakukan," lugas Smith. ( mrp / rin )

Former Manchester United and Newcastle midfielder Keith Gillespie declared bankrupt

Former Northern Ireland international Keith Gillespie has been declared bankrupt.

The former Manchester United and Newcastle United midfielder, 35, has been served with a creditor's petition and was listed in an official receiver bankruptcy notice published on Friday.

He played last season with Glentoran in the Irish Premiership and is one of Northern Ireland's most capped players with 86 appearances since his debut in 1994.

A Revenue and Customs spokesman confirmed it had taken action against Gillespie, who has an address in Bangor, Co Down, over a tax bill.

He refused to say how much was owed.

Gillespie was a member of Manchester United's 1992 FA Youth Cup winning team and represented the Red Devils until 1995 when he moved to Newcastle.

Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt is in Hong Kong for talks with South China FC.

Butt, who called time on a career that also included stints at Newcastle and Birmingham City in May, will arrive in the territory later this month and will feature in South China's league game against TSW Pegasus before deciding whether to remain with the club until the end of the season.

"I wanted some time out of the game to concentrate on my next step either in or out of football. However I feel fit and when South China FC approached me to join them for a week's training and a game, the prospect excited me," said the 35-year-old former England international.

"I could see from their team and commitment to the game that this was something I wanted to be a part of. I have been to China many times with Manchester United and England and the reception we received was always unbelievable.

"The development and growth of Asian football since 2002 has been phenomenal and can be seen from the influence of Asian players in the Premiership. I am really looking forward to this new experience and the challenges it will bring."

Chairman Steven Lo believes the acquisition of Butt could help South China capture next year's AFC Cup, the Asian version of the Europa League. South China reached the semi-finals in 2009 before losing to eventual winners Kuwait SC.

"Everyone is excited by Nicky's arrival and the knowledge and experience he can bring to the team," he said.

"We are always looking to attract talent to strengthen our squad and this demonstrates our commitment to that. Nicky's records internationally and domestically speak for themselves and I am sure he will receive a fantastic reception when he arrives at Hong Kong Stadium.

PAUL INCE PULLED GUN ON ALEX FERGUSON

STEVE BRUCE has revealed his former Manchester United team-mate Paul Ince once pulled a gun on Sir Alex Ferguson.

Bruce comes face to face with Ince at the Stadium of Light today when his Sunderland side host Notts County in the third round of the FA Cup.

Bruce was skipper at Old Trafford in the early Nineties when Ince, now manager of Notts County, arrived from West Ham telling his new team-mates he wanted to be referred to by his Upton Park nickname, ‘The Guv’nor’.

And just days later he had all their jaws on the floor when he turned up in the dressing room brandishing a gun.

“Paul was nuts when he was a kid,” said Bruce. “I don’t think Fergie was ever attacked by a rifle before.

“I remember when he brought in his gun. He poked it around the door and it was a big air rifle. Fergie must have shouted at him or something like that to provoke it.

“Incey was larger than life and a good character to have around. He must have had something about him to threaten Fergie with a gun. We saw him do it. He poked the gun through the door and he was only 22 at the time.

“It was just tongue in cheek, though. He just knocked on the door and said something like, ‘You’d better stop picking on me’ or, ‘You had better play me on Saturday’.”

Bruce added: “He liked to think he was the Guv’nor. It just showed you how much front and bottle he had to be called the Guv’nor even when he first walked in the door.

“I just thought, ‘Who’s this cocky little thing from West Ham?’ But when you’re cocky like him you have to be able to back it up – and by god he was a good player. To have him and Roy Keane in front of me in their prime, with Andrei Kanchelskis and Ryan Giggs on the wings and Mark Hughes and Eric Cantona up front, that was some team I can tell you. It could do everything.”

Ferguson and Ince endured a tempestuous relationship for six years before the Old Trafford boss sold him to Inter Milan in 1995, labelling Ince a “bottler” and “big-time Charlie”.

But Bruce and his team-mates were all convinced of his talents.

“We respected Incey straight away as a player,” said Bruce. “He has mellowed and matured since he became a dad. He just carries a pistol now rather than a rifle!

“He’ll be going grey around the gills now and he won’t like that, but he’s a good lad.”

The pair’s friendship has extended to Bruce allowing Notts County to use Sunderland’s training facilities ahead of today’s tie – and inviting his old pal to lunch.

But Bruce is on a diet. He admits he loves a pork pie and has given them up as a new year’s resolution – but Ince reckons if he can pull off a shock result today the need for comfort food will be unbearable. “Let’s see how long that resolution lasts,” said Ince. “If we beat them, perhaps he’ll be back on the pork pies.

“When I went to United I gravitated towards Bruce because he likes a beer – still does by the size of him. We are very good friends. Our houses were about 200 yards apart and we mixed socially. We go on holiday every year to the Algarve. We are very close.

“He looked after me at United and I get pleasure in seeing him do well at Sunderland. He can hopefully go on and become England manager.”

Ince took over at Notts County this season and has led them from the depths of League One towards safety, seeing them unbeaten in their past six games.

“Bruce has the respect of players at Sunderland,” said Ince. “The players can relate to him. You’ve got to have a bond with them. They have to be able to come to you with their problems, even if it’s not football-related.”

Ince and the new County owner, Ray Trew, are still dealing with the bills caused by the Munto Finance takeover debacle that nearly bankrupted the club – a far cry from Ince’s glory days with United.

“Winning the Cup in 1994 was fantastic,” he said. “To win it at as a 22-year-old kid was amazing. I look back and I’m all skinny, hair’s all over the place, and I wore the No2 shirt.

“I got the man of the match. We beat a very good Chelsea side 4-0.

“The only regret I had was squaring the ball to Brian McClair when I could have scored.

“I got a lot of pats on the back for that but I think what a mug I was because it’s always nice to tell your kids you scored in a Wembley cup final.”

Berita yang dirilis oleh Expressandstar.com menyebutkan kalau Wallwork dicurigai tergabung dalam sebuah geng kriminal, dan telah melakukan sebuah aksi perampokan mobil yang terencana. Geng ini juga melukai seorang petugas security saat menggelar aksinya.

Enam orang lainnya juga ditahan oleh polisi dan empat diantaranya dicurigai telah melakukan percobaan pembunuhan, serta pelanggaran lain berupa konspirasi perampokan serta pelanggaran senjata api.

Seorang juru bicara kepolisian mengatakan:

“Pria berusia 33 tahun dari Manchester yang ditangkap karena dicurigai merampok mobil, telah ditebus sampai tanggal 18 Januari.

Ya, meski saat ini sudah dibebaskan, namun investigasi polisi masih akan berlanjut hingga kasus ini benar-benar jelas dan tuntas.

Wallwork saat muda pernah digadang-gadang sebagai salah satu pemain masa depan MU. Namun nasibnya ternyata tidak terlalu baik. Selama membela Red Devils, ia hanya bermain di 19 pertandingan.

Setelah itu ia sempat berkelana ke berbagai klub Inggris seperti West Brom, Huddersfield dan Barnsley. Tahun 2008 ia memutuskan pensiun dari sepakbola, dan menutup karir bersama Sheffield Wednesday.

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has spoken of his delight at the form of goalkeeper Ben Foster, claiming that he has improved since moving to the club.

Foster was regarded as one of the finest young goalkeepers around earlier in his career, impressing hugely whilst on loan at Watford from Manchester United.

The 26-year-old appeared to have got his break with United last season as manager Sir Alex Ferguson began to use him more often; however he made some costly errors and fell behind Edwin van der Sar and Tomasz Kuszczak.

Foster eventually left Old Trafford for Birmingham last summer, and he has impressed enough to win a place back in the England squad and rival last season's goalkeeping success story at St Andrews, Joe Hart.

Now, as Foster prepares to visit Old Trafford for the first time since leaving, McLeish insisted that he was relishing the chance.

"I'm sure Ben will relish going back. Hopefully he's not kept too busy in the game," McLeish said.

"Sir Alex just felt he couldn't hold onto Ben any longer and he was bursting to get regular first-team football.

"It has benefited Ben, without question. He's been in super form, very consistent.

"Sir Alex has been in the game a long time. It's difficult to say he doesn't make the right decisions with any of the decisions he makes.

"I'm sure United will be okay in terms of replacing Van der Sar (when he eventually retires)."

Speaking about United, McLeish felt that the club could continue a run that has seen them go unbeaten all season and claim the title.

"They are probably looking better now than in the earlier part of the season when they had a lot of draws," he added.

"It's amazing that they are unbeaten and I think that they can only get better.

"It would be a hell of an achievement.

"In terms of the title, it is such a tight league but Manchester United have so much experience of this situation.

"There is no man who has got greater experience than Sir Alex when it comes to the run-in, and the run of games after January."

Former Manchester United youth academy graduate Adam Eckersley believes there is a tendency in English football for top Premier League clubs to nurture young foreign talent better than homegrown ones.

Eckersley, who joined Manchester United as a nine-year-old but subsequently left in 2008 after years spent on loan at the likes of Barnsley, Port Vale and Royal Antwerp, suggests there is a wider issue in British football, whereby expensive young imports get a fairer crack of the whip than their English counterparts.

The 25-year-old Englishman is currently thriving in Danish football with AGF Aarhus, but the left-back looks back on his footballing education at Old Trafford with a tinge of regret, suggesting he should have left the Premier League giants sooner than he did.

Eckersley told Sport.co.uk: “It’s just such a big club (Manchester United),

“No one’s established themselves (from his peer group).

“In my year there was Giuseppe Rossi and he was the standout guy. Even Gerard Pique never quite made the grade even though he was given chances.

“Players like that have gone abroad and done well. Man United sign a lot of players nowadays so it’s difficult to make your grade at a club like that.”

He continued: “At Man United I think it was quite a big problem,

“Pique and Rossi were in and must have played a handful of reserve team games and were pushed straight into the first team.

“I had been there, done three or four years in the reserve team and got one chance to play in the first team, did really well and never got a chance again.”

A man-of-the-match performance in United’s Carling Cup victory over Barnet proved to be his last major contribution for the Red Devils. Ill-fate and ill-timing meant George Best’s death overshadowed the next round of matches and as a consequence the manager put out a full-strength team.

“Being at Man United I think some players get looked after better than others,” Eckersley continued. “With Sir Alex Ferguson I only ever exchanged a ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ if I saw him walking down the corridor.”

He concluded: “The foreign players that come in get looked after a bit better than the local players. I saw that coming. I think it’s been like that since I was the age of 10 or 11.

“I think I held onto the dream of playing for Man United a bit too long.”

Brandy is without a club after being released by the Red Devils and is currently stepping up his recovery from injury with North End physio Mick Rathbone.

Brown told PNE Player: "'Basil' brought it to my attention that Febian had been training with him on a three or four-week basis.

"He had been to Leicester on a trial period, but Leicester had five, six or seven strikers to choose from. Obviously there was no room for him there.

"I need to speak to his agent and we will see where that takes us."

Paul Ince: I'd rather be in the dugout than have to sit on the pundits' sofa

Bleary-eyed and bedraggled, Paul Ince had no chance of savouring the previous night’s hard-fought victory for his club Notts County against Colchester United with a well deserved lie-in.

The former England captain had arrived back at the family home in Heswall, on Merseyside, at 1.30 on Wednesday morning, triumphant at his team’s vital win if still a little damp after getting soaked in near-monsoon conditions.

Now the clock was showing 7.30am, barely time to have got comfortable. But within the hour, he would be off on the familiar 120-mile route to Meadow Lane, Nottingham.

This time, it was not the first team to see but a County reserve game, kicking off at the unlikely time of 11am. At bigger clubs Ince might have been able to delegate but not at County, where his back-up team consists of assistant Alex Rae and coach Dave Farrell.

It is fair to say Ince’s lifestyle has changed dramatically since he was labelled a ‘big-time Charlie’ by one of his former managers, Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ince is no longer the ‘Guv’nor’ of old, playing for Manchester United, Liverpool and Inter Milan. He spends Saturday nights poring over Notts County DVDs rather than clubbing.

Forthright and opinionated, Ince would have made an ideal television pundit if he had wanted to join his peers Alan Shearer, Jamie Redknapp and Steve McManaman on the studio sofas. Instead, he is happy to work at the coalface.

Life in League One is a daily slog for survival with the odd beautiful moment of respite. Today’s FA Cup fourth-round replay at Manchester City is such an occasion. He is unique among England’s Euro 96 generation in trying anything to become a top manager.

Gareth Southgate, sacked from his first managerial job at Middlesbrough, has opted to become the FA’s head of elite development rather than put himself through the rigmarole again. Teddy Sheringham makes no secret that he regards playing the poker circuit as a better bet than being a manager.

Not so Ince. Having taken his first job at Macclesfield Town when they were bottom of the Football League, he has no regrets about returning to the lower echelons after his first Premier League job at Blackburn Rovers in 2008 ended in the sack after less than six months.

‘I played with some great England players and it’s disappointing for me that there aren’t more of them having a go as managers,’ explains Ince.

‘People like Ian Wright have walked out of the game. I’ve bumped into others like Wisey (Dennis Wise) who have been managers but now tell me they aren’t in any rush to get back in. I find the whole thing sad.

‘How can it be right that an England captain like Tony Adams is working in Azerbaijan?’

Nobody would have blamed Ince if he had also walked away when he was sacked by Blackburn after having to sell his best players, Brad Friedel and David Bentley.

But he stresses: ‘It didn’t sour my confidence, it made me more determined to prove I’m a winner. For me, being a manager is the next best thing to playing.

‘I’ve never said it had to be in the Premier League or working with players like Ryan Giggs. I’m happy to get my hands dirty and learn my trade properly. I’m in a fortunate position financially. I could sit home and watch TV. But I love being a manager.’

Ince, 43, is almost as lean as he was when he won the Double with United and secured a big-money move to Inter.

Those he rubbed up the wrong way, normally opposition fans, might be surprised at the unsung job he is doing at County, still in recovery after over-ambitious owners Munto Finance nearly bankrupted the world’s oldest club.

He works with a small staff, little investment and a bogheap of a pitch the club share with Nottingham rugby union team.

‘It’s worth it for games like the third round against Steve Bruce’s Sunderland,’

he says. ‘We had a team that cost nothing and beat them. I was able to sit down at home with a glass of wine and a smile on my face because we’d got it right tactically, and against my old team-mate Brucey as well.’

Ince has had time to reflect on his time at Ewood Park. He acknowledges he made a mistake by trying to become too close to the players. ‘I think I tried to become a bit too friendly,’ he admitted.

‘I thought that’s what you had to do in the Premier League. Next time, I wouldn’t change for the sake of others.

My style isn’t to hit players with a stick but, at the same time, I learned if you give the players an inch at that level they will take a mile.

‘Maybe I wasn’t ready for it. I had players throwing their toys out of the pram and ringing their agents if they weren’t in the team. It was a madhouse, like looking after 24 kids.’

Ince is convinced a Premier League club will come knocking again. Certainly he has built a good reputation in the lower leagues, saving Macclesfield from relegation, winning the League Two title with MK Dons and now earning County two famous FA Cup results — beating Sunderland and then holding City to a 1-1 draw.

‘I am looking forward to locking horns with Roberto Mancini again,’ he said. ‘I admire him. He knows what he wants. He’s helped by being able to get players out the door, knowing he can afford world-class replacements.

‘If Adebayor upsets him, he can sign Dzeko. But he is getting his rewards now for staying strong. The egos are under control after the in-fighting.

'It reminds me of Fergie. He had big characters like Roy Keane, Peter Schmeichel, Bruce and myself in the dressing room but kept it under control.’

Ince has an affection for football’s traditions. ‘I don’t want to be called old fashioned but there are some traditional parts of the game worth keeping,’ he says. ‘Snoods, pink boots, headphones? I think clubs should get together and draw up a code of conduct for players,’ he argued.

‘I saw Ashley Young wearing headphones while he was being interviewed on television. What’s that about? I don’t think it’s respectful.

‘Adebayor turned up to a game in jeans and a hat that was clearly some kind of fashion statement. I know he wasn’t playing but, yes, I am old school in that respect. If a player at County comes to a game, he’s got to wear a suit, whether he’s in the squad or not.’

Ince, whose son Thomas is on Liverpool’s books, almost regards his spell in the lower leagues as a breath of fresh air.

He said: ‘I’m ambitious but there are a lot of things I enjoy about the game in League One; the honesty, the commitment, the fans turning up to help the team rather than moaning.

‘I’ve been allowed to get on and do my job at County. Premier League managers have a campaign to sack them after two games. It’s hard work but I am so glad I will be in the dug-out this weekend, not the TV studio.’

Marseille - Gabriel Heinze mengutarakan penyesalannya karena pernah bermusuhan dengan Sir Alex Ferguson ketika masih membela Manchester United. Heinze mengakui Fergie berperan besar dalam perkembangan karirnya.

Kiprah Heinze bersama MU cuma bertahan selama tiga musim. Bek Argentina ini ngotot minta dijual ke Liverpool--yang ketika itu meminatinya--setelah gagal mendapatkan tempat utama akibat kedatangan Patrice Evra.

Namun Fergie menolak mentah-mentah permintaan Heinze itu. Alasannya jelas, The Reds memang musuh bebuyutan MU di tanah Inggris. Sehingga sang manajer lebih memilih untuk menjual mantan anak buahnya itu ke Real Madrid sebelum akhirnya Heinze hijrah ke Marseille dua musim silam.

Sementara untuk pertandingan ini, Heinze mengaku sudah tidak sabar untuk kembali ke Old Trafford untuk pertama kalinya. Hal itu akan dilakukannya saat MU gantian menjamu Marseille di leg II.

"Aku tak sabar lagi untuk kembali ke lapangan di Old Trafford karena ini adalah klub yang istimewa, seperti halnya Real Madrid.

"United adalah klub yang dibangun dalam kesuksesan. Itu adalah warisan, legenda-legenda, banyak trofi tapi buatku Old Trafford juga sangat manusiawi dan tempat yang hangat.

Louis Saha escapes injury in Ferrari crash on same Cheshire road as Ronaldo smash

Ex- Manchester United star Louis Saha cheated death when he crashed his Ferrari sports car on a busy country road – just yards from where Cristiano Ronaldo famously wrecked his motor two years ago.

Louis Saha, 32, who now plays for Everton, lost control of his car on Altrincham Road, Wilmslow, next to the Manchester Airport tunnel where Ronaldo crashed his £200,000 Ferrari in January 2009.

The Frenchman's car was 'extensively' damaged, police confirmed, but the footballer escaped injury and did not need hospital treatment.

The MEN understands Saha only walked away unscathed because his high-powered vehicle was a left-hand drive and the right side of the car sustained most of the impact.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene of the road smash.

Sources said Saha was 'shaken' and had an 'extremely lucky escape'.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Fire Service said the car was 'smoking' but the driver had already got out by the time they had arrived.

They spent twenty minutes helping to move the Ferrari and ensuring it was safe, the spokeswoman added.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 8.54pm on Sunday, police were called to Altrincham Road, Wilmslow, to a report of a single-vehicle road traffic collision, involving a Ferrari.

The 32-year-old driver was uninjured.”

It is unclear what type of Ferrari he was driving but the star owns a £170,000 458 Italia model.

Saha was driving alone in the incident, which took place the day after he played for Everton in their 2-1 home win over Sunderland. He signed for the club in 2008 after almost five years at Old Trafford.

The smash happened by the concrete road tunnel, which runs underneath Manchester Airport, where Ronaldo crashed his brand-new Ferrari two years ago.

The Portuguese winger, who later transferred to Real Madrid for a record £80m, was the subject of a careless driving investigation but police decided he would not face any charges.

The accident tore one wheel off the 599 GTB Fiorano and crushed the front and side.

At the time of the smash, the star had only had the 205mph Portuguese-registered, left-hand-drive supercar for a couple of days.

Louis Saha tertimpa sial. Mengendarai mobil Ferrari-nya di Wilmslow, Chesire pada Minggu sore waktu setempat, striker Everton itu kehilangan kendali pada mobilnya dan menabrak pagar pembatas.

Menurut laporan pihak kepolisian yang mengetahui adanya insiden tersebut, Saha dikabarkan baik-baik saja dan tidak mengalami cedera parah.

"Petugas tiba di tempat kejadian perkara di mana Ferrari biru 458 telah menabrak pagar di luar terowongan," pernyataan resmi dari jurubicara polisi Cheshire.

"Pengemudi berusia 32 tahun itu tidak mengalami cedera. Penyelidikan terkait penyebab kecelakaan masih dilakukan," lanjut pernyataan tersebut.

Insiden seperti ini juga sempat dialami Cristiano Ronaldo, tak jauh dari tempat Saha mengalami kecelakaan. Uniknya, Ronaldo juga mengalami kecelakaan saat mengendarai mobil Ferrari.

Ince in hot water with FA after bust-up at Orient

NOTTS County boss Paul Ince is in hot water with the Football Association after allegedly throwing a cup of tea at Leyton Orient chief scout Kevin Dearden in a touchline bust-up during the Magpies' 2-0 league defeat at Brisbane Road.

Ince was incensed when referee Grant Hegley awarded Orient a penalty on 54 minutes after Ricky Ravenhill unintentionally handled the ball making a goalline clearance, and Dearden said Ravenhill should be red carded.

He had to be restrained by a steward before being sent off, and he watched the rest of the game from the main stand. He is now facing a touchline ban.

Magpies' assistant manager Alex Rae was stood next to Ince in the technical area but said he never saw the flashpoint.

"I don't know what happened," he said. "There was a wee spat and a ridiculous comment from one of their coaching staff that Ricky should have been sent off.

"I'm not sure if he was a football man, maybe he was in the wrong stadium. It was laughable.

"That was one of the reasons we got a bit het up. The penalty was an unbelievable decision for the linesman to make. Ricky slid in to clear it and put his hand down to brace his fall. It did hit his hand but it was never intentional.

"The referee gave a corner and he was closer to it than the linesman, who overruled him, which I find staggering."

Orient's leading scorer Alex Revell missed the controversial penalty, but they already led 1-0 after Dean Cox scored on eight minutes, and defender Andrew Whing added a second goal on 80 minutes.

"We struggled to get to grips with their movement in the first half," said Rae. "I felt we were better in the second half so it was a body blow to concede from a free-kick."

Panggil Saha Orang Perancis, Dianggap Rasis

Bola.net - Seorang fans sepak bola akan diadili di pengadilan karena dituduh telah mengeluarkan komentar berbau rasis setelah meneriaki Louis Saha sebagai orang Perancis.

Fans Everton, David Sibson (57 tahun), dikeluarkan dari Goodison Park karena meneriaki striker timnas Perancis itu dengan kata-kata "orang Perancis malas yang tidak berguna".

Dan dia dilaporkan oleh penonton lain yang duduk di dekatnya. Tiket musiman dari Sibson telah ditarik kembali oleh klub.

Polisi menyelidiki kasus itu dan dia sekarang menghadapi tuduhan mengganggu ketertiban umum.

Sibson mengatakan, "Saya menghadapi tuntutan pidana hanya karena memanggil Perancis pada orang Perancis. Apa itu rasis?"

Heinze Antusias "Comeback" ke Old Trafford

MARSEILLE, KOMPAS.com — Bek Olympique Marseille, Gabriel Heinze, mengaku tak sabar untuk kembali berlaga di Old Trafford. Heinze akan comeback ke kandang Manchester United (MU) tersebut saat Marseille menjalani laga kedua babak 16 besar Liga Champions, Selasa (15/3/2011).

Pemain asal Argentina ini pernah membela MU dari tahun 2004 hingga 2007. Selama itu, ia bermain sebanyak 83 kali dan mencetak empat gol. Ia pun sempat mempersembahkan gelar Premier League untuk MU pada musim 2006-07. Heinze menceritakan bagaimana perasaannya saat masih berseragam MU.

"Momen besar pertamaku di Old Traffod terjadi saat fans dan para pemain lain memilihku sebagai pemain terbaik. Mendengar fans bernyanyi 'Argentina, Argentina' sungguh sangat emosional. Keluargaku ada di sana saat itu," kata Heinze seperti dilansir UEFA.com.

"Itu sesuatu yang tak bisa aku lupakan. Memenangkan gelar liga domestik dengan MU, ini yang pertama bagiku, sangat tak terlupakan. Aku punya kenangan indah yang aku bisa ambil untuk menikmati masa istirahatku," sambungnya.

Heinze kemudian mengungkapkan rahasia di balik kesuksesan MU dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. "Aku pikir orang yang paling bertanggung jawab menjaga klub dalam tingkat tertinggi adalah Manajer Alex Ferguson, ditambah semua pemain yang mereka miliki di dalam skuad," jelasnya.

"Para pemain penting ada di sana, seperti Ryan Giggs atau (Paul) Scholes, yang memerintah dan memberikan dukungan. Aku merasakan hal itu saat masih di sana tentang cara mereka bertindak sebelum dan selama pertandingan," tuntasnya.

Saha Akui Musimnya Mungkin Telah Usai

Liverpool - Penampilan Louis Saha bersama Everton belakangan sedang produktif. Sayangnya, performa menanjak itu harus berakhir dengan cedera yang mungkin tidak akan sembuh sampai musim ini berakhir.

Setelah melempem di awal musim, dengan cuma mencetak satu gol di Piala Carling, Saha mulai menaik sejak kalender memasuki tahun 2011. Penyerang Prancis itu mendulang sembilan gol, tujuh di Liga Inggris dan dua di Piala FA.

Gol terakhir Saha dicetaknya ke gawang Fulham untuk membawa Everton unggul 2-1. Namun dalam laga itu, Saha harus ditarik pada menit 87 akibat cedera engkel yang lumayan parah.

"Saya sekarang memakai kruk," ungkap Saha perihal kondisinya kepada L'Equipe yang dikutip Telegraph.

"Kondisi saya tidak baik. Apakah saya akan absen selama beberapa hari, beberapa pekan atau beberapa bulan? Saya tidak tahu. Tapi, sulit untuk bermain lagi sebelum akhir musim," tukas strikre 32 tahun itu pasrah.

"Saya sangat terpukul dengan kejadian ini karena ini terjadi pada saat saya sedang memulai sesuatu. Tahun ini sangat membuat frustrasi, saya sudah melakukan segala persiapan fisik, tetapi saya cedera di tengah-tengahnya," keluhnya.

Tetapi, Saha memilih tidak terlalu banyak mengeluh karena penderitaannya tidak ada apa-apanya bila dibandingkan dengan korban gempa dan tsunami di Jepang baru-baru ini.

"Ini berat, tetapi saat saya melihat apa yang terjadi di Jepang, saya tidak ingin mengeluh," kata eks bomber Manchester United itu.

Cedera Saha membuat Everton krisis pemain depan. The Toffees praktis tinggal punya satu striker senior, yakni Jermaine Beckford. Striker senior lainnya, Victor Anichebe, juga cedera, sedangkan para pemain depan lainnya terhitung masih sangat muda.

Burnley defender Richard Eckersley has joined Canadian MLS side Toronto FC on loan until January.

Eckersley, 22, has been recalled from his loan spell with Bury to link up again with former Plymouth manager Paul Mariner, who is currently director of player development with Toronto.

Eckersley spent two months on loan at Argyle under Mariner at the end of last season.

A loan spell at Bradford followed in November 2010 before he linked up with the Shakers in March of this year.

The former Manchester United trainee signed a four-year deal with Burnley in the summer of 2009.

Eckersley has made just three appearances for the Clarets.

Denis Law starts Manchester Shine cancer charity walk

Former Manchester United striker Denis Law has set more than 3,500 people off on a night-time charity walk.

The Manchester Shine event, for Cancer Research UK, will pass Old Trafford, Manchester Town Hall and the charity's Paterson Institute in Withington.

Mr Law, who has survived prostate cancer, sounded a horn to start the marathon walk at 2100 BST on Sunday.

Some Coronation Street stars were taking part in honour of the soap's former writer, Gavin Blyth.

Mr Blyth, who also produced Emmerdale, died of cancer last November.

The team tackling the event's half marathon will include soap actresses Michelle Keegan, Brooke Vincent, Lucy Jo Hudson and Kirsty Leigh Porter.

Participants can also walk a full marathon route.

It is hoped those taking part will raise more than £1.8m to fund research into cancer.

Mr Law said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been asked by Cancer Research UK to officially start Shine once again here in the heart of my beloved Manchester.

"It's fantastic that so many people have signed up for this spectacular event. Everyone taking part will know someone who has been affected by cancer and by all coming together and helping raise money for Cancer Research UK, each and every one of them is making a real difference."

Oriol: Rossi ready to join Barca

Villarreal defender Joan Oriol has confirmed that Giuseppe Rossi would like a move to Barcelona this summer.

Speculation over the future of Rossi has been growing in recent weeks, with the player speaking of his desire to play for the Spanish champions, while Villarreal coach Juan Carlos Garrido said the player will be sold if the club gets a good offer for him.

Rossi, rated at around €27 million, scored 18 goals in 36 La Liga starts for the Yellow Submarine last season and scored the same number of goals in 2009-10 too. Now the Italy international is set to be rewarded with a move to the Catalan giants.

"Rossi wants to go to Barcelona," Oriol told COM Radio. "He hopes [that] everything goes well and that he will be wearing the Azulgrana colours next season.

"Rossi could bring plenty to Barcelona, quality, experience and youth. He is a player who fits the Barcelona profile. I think he is the best player they can sign.

"He would easily adapt there and he would take on the competition well at Barcelona. He knows the risks of moving there.''

United reject Djordjic back on the Golden Mile and promising to make amends with Blackpool

Were he not so hot-headed, Bojan Djordjic might now be a Manchester United star instead of getting ready to turn out for Blackpool against Hull City in the opening Championship game of the season on Friday night.

Djordjic, born in Belgrade and brought up in Sarajevo, fled his homeland as a 10-year-old to escape the Bosnian war. He moved with his parents to Sweden, where his footballing father, Ranko, had played for Norrköping, and in 1999 arrived at Old Trafford as a 17-year-old hailed as the 'next Ryan Giggs'.
But he made just two first-team appearances before walking out six years ago to become a football nomad, playing in six different countries while fearing he had blown his chance at the big time.

Now 29, a more mature Djordjic is back in England trying to eradicate the bad memories - and earn a second stab at the Premier League by helping Blackpool return after their ill-fated attempt at surviving among the elite last season.

'It has taken me a long time to come to terms with what happened at United,' said Djordjic last week. 'I was 17 and people were expecting big things. I wish I'd worked harder. I wasn't lazy but I didn't go the extra mile. If we were running, I'd be happy to coast in the middle of the group rather than to try to get to the front, to make myself fitter. I rarely missed a chance to go out and hit the bars and clubs.

'I was a hot-head. I'd shout at any of them, Roy Keane or whoever, if they gave me a bad pass.'

His lowest moments came when he twice walked out of training. 'Mike Phelan and Choccy (Brian McClair) would be in charge and they'd deliberately not award fouls against me to try to toughen me up,' he said.
'I wouldn't have any of it and on a couple of occasions, I stormed off the pitch to the changing rooms in the middle of training.

'After a few steps, I'd already be terrified and think, "Oh God, what am I doing". But my pride wouldn't allow me to turn around. I'd carry on walking, get my stuff and drive off. I'd have to go into Sir Alex Ferguson's office the next day for a lecture and to get fined. I am not proud of it.

'I was so impatient back then. I'd be picked in the squad and sulk if I didn't make the bench. It was ridiculous, I should have appreciated being at the biggest club in the world.'

With Giggs showing no signs of decline, Djordjic went on loan, playing in Denmark with Aarhus, Serbia, where he struck up a friendship with current United captain Nemanja Vidic at Red Star Belgrade, and in the lower leagues with Sheffield Wednesday.

His only two first-team appearances for United ended in heavy defeats, at Tottenham and Arsenal, and in 2005 Djordjic told Ferguson he wanted to leave.

His wish was granted but United still haunted him. Injuries blighted his spell with Rangers, he fell out at Plymouth with Ian Holloway - now his manager at Blackpool after buying him to replace Charlie Adam - and even winning titles in Sweden with AIK Solna and Hungary with Videoton did not compensate for leaving Old Trafford.

'I was so close to making it at United,' he said. 'Everywhere I went, it played on my mind. I'd look at whatever club I played for and think, "this isn't United". It was disrespectful really.

'Ian Holloway kept telling me at Plymouth that I had to forget the past and appreciate the present, to respect the fans who paid money to watch me play. I realise now he's right but I didn't see it at the time and people might have thought I was arrogant.

'In a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid, Ian subbed me after 80 minutes to give a young player a chance. I shook my head, refusing to leave the pitch. I came off eventually but stormed past Ian and this young lad who was coming on. I am embarrassed when I think about it now.'

Djordjic vows not to let Holloway down again. 'I respect Ian 100 per cent,' he said. 'What he says to me in training, I will do because I know he's doing it for the good of the team.'

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll has signed for OFI FC in the Greek Super League.

The 33-year-old has been searching for a club since leaving Danish outfit Odense in February and has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

Carroll, who won a Premier League winners' medal and the FA Cup during his four seasons at Old Trafford between 2001 and 2005, will bring plenty of experience to his new club having also played for Wigan, West Ham and Derby during a long career which started at Hull City back in 1996.

Carroll received three offers from Football League clubs in England and enjoyed a spell on trial at Preston but he instead opted for a move to Greece.

The goalkeeper's agent Simon Dent said: "We had three offers from Football League clubs but he's decided to sign for OFI FC.

"It's a club with a great history and pushing for Europa League qualification this season."

The ex-Ireland international has released a video to accompany the song, which shows him at Curracloe Beach, on YouTube, and it has so far attracted over 5,000 hits.

There was overwhelming praise for the centre back, possibly from fans of his performance on the pitch, with one viewer posting: 'Well done Macker you are a legend,' and another suggesting he may even be a contender for the coveted Christmas number one spot.

However, other commentators have questioned how tuneful the sportsman's voice is.

Goin' Back will be followed by an album of cover tracks, titled Handle with Care, which features hits such as Elvis Costello's Good Year For The Roses and Christy Moore's The Contender.

A percentage of the profits from the album, which is released on September 23rd, will go to the Acquired Brain Injury Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Ireland.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, McGrath said: 'It's something new. It's something novel but it's just songs that I liked when I was a young man so I just put a few of them out there to see how it worked.'

He added that it will be 'one off', much to the disappointment of his fans.

FOOTIE star Craig Hignett has sent his support to ex-Boro coach Gordon McQueen after he was diagnosed with cancer.

McQueen, the 59-year-old former Scottish international, was a favourite at Leeds and Manchester United before working on Teesside under his old mate Bryan Robson.

He announced on Friday that he will have treatment at James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough after being diagnosed with cancer of the larynx.

Former Riverside favourite Hignett is good friends with McQueen and has backed him to bounce back quickly.

“It’s never nice when you hear news like that about a friend but he will get his treatment and come through it,” Hignett, 41, said.

“I still see Gordon and speak to him quite a lot, he’s a top man.

“Obviously he was still working at the club until last year scouting and he’s settled down in the area.

“When I was at the club he was managing the reserves and whenever you were involved you always wanted to play for him. He had a fantastic career, he has great passion for the game and he’s a very funny man with a dry sense of humour.”

Meanwhile, dozens of messages of support for McQueen, who lives in Hutton Rudby, North Yorkshire, have been posted on the messageboard of Boro fanzine Fly Me To The Moon.

Editor Rob Nichols said the former coach and scout was well respected by fans.

“Gordon’s a popular figure,” Rob said.

“He’s a pillar of the community in Hutton Rudby. Even when he was coach and scout at Boro he was very honest with fans and very fair.

“He really cared for the club and he still does. He is passionate about the area and we wish him all the best.”

Rob said McQueen had seen and done it all in the game.

“He’s a big figure in every sense. People remember him from that last great Leeds side and from the World Cup.”

The 33-year-old has been searching for a club since leaving Danish outfit Odense in February and has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

Carroll, who won a Premier League winners' medal and the FA Cup during his four seasons at Old Trafford between 2001 and 2005, will bring plenty of experience to his new club having also played for Wigan, West Ham and Derby during a long career which started at Hull City back in 1996.

Carroll received three offers from Football League clubs in England and enjoyed a spell on trial at Preston but he instead opted for a move to Greece.

The goalkeeper's agent Simon Dent said: "We had three offers from Football League clubs but he's decided to sign for OFI FC.

"It's a club with a great history and pushing for Europa League qualification this season."

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has labelled big-money summer signing Nicky Ajose as a "disappointment"

Ferguson spent £300,000 on the Manchester United striker but the 20-year-old has failed to impress.

Ajose was injured against Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season and was sent out on loan to Scunthorpe - where he yet to score and is not playing regularly.

"Nicky was obviously unfortunate to get injured in his first game and others have impressed in his absence," Ferguson told the Evening Telegraph.

"We sent him out on loan to get games and that move has been extended until January, but I'd be lying if I said he hadn't been a disappointment.

"He is a player we invested a lot of money in who has a lengthy contract, so we'll have another look at it in January."

Bola.net - Mantan pemain internasional Prancis, Mikael Silvestre, pada Rabu (23/11) mengakui kalau ia gembira karena untuk pertama kalinya dapat kembali berlatih dengan Werder Bremen setelah lama sempat dililit cedera lutut.

Silvestre (34 tahun), yang pernah membela Manchester United dan Arsenal ini, menderita kerusakan tulang rawan pada lutut kanannya sejak Juni, dan tidak ada prediksi kapan ia dapat kembali bermain. Meski demikian, Silvestre mengatakan ia gembira karena dapat kembali berlatih.

"Ini adalah perasaan yang bagus. Semuanya ok. Uji asam memperbolehkan (saya) berlatih kembali dan saya gembira dengan keputusan itu," kata Silvestre, yang terakhir bermain untuk timnas pada 2006.

Wallwork kedapatan melakukan penjualan barang ilegal pada November lalu. Terungkap bahwa ia telah menjual mesin Volkswagen Touran dan bagian dari BMW 318i di eBay. Ia juga kedapatan mengendarai Furano Mazda yang belakangan diketahui merupakan barang curian dari sebuah dealer mobil setempat.

Wallwork mengakui kesalahannya. Sayang, hal itu tak membantu keinginan pengacaranya agar pengadilan menangguhkan hukuman Wallwork.

"Barang yang dicuri merupakan barang bernilai tinggi. Sepertinya mereka bekerja secara profesional dan menggunakan alat yang canggih. Hal ini jelas bagi saya bahwa mereka sudah membawa barang tersebut ke pasar gelap untuk dijual," jelas Hakim Simon Newell, yang memimpin persidangan.

Former Manchester United player Ronnie Wallwork jailed for 15 months after selling stolen car parts

Former Manchester United midfielder Ronnie Wallwork, once dubbed a “marvellous player” by Sir Alex Ferguson, has been jailed for 15 months for selling on parts from stolen high-performance cars.

Wallwork, who made his United debut as a 20 year-old in a 7-0 Premier League victory against Barnsley in October 1997, earned a title winners’ medal in the 2000-01 campaign after making 12 league appearances for Ferguson’s team.

But the 34 year-old is now starting a prison sentence after pleading guilty at Preston Crown Court to three counts of handling stolen goods.

Police stumbled upon Wallwork’s illegal vehicle-breaking operation while investigating a string of unconnected armed robberies across Lancashire.

Wallwork, from Failsworth, Manchester, was working out of a rented scrapyard unit in Newton Heath when he was arrested last November.

It emerged he had sold a Volkswagen Touran engine and parts from a BMW 318i on eBay, while he was observed driving a Mazda Furano into the scrapyard three days after it was stolen from a car dealer.

Drinkwater joins Leicester

Danny Drinkwater has completed a move to Leicester City for an undisclosed fee.

The midfielder has been on loan with Barnsley and impressed Nigel Pearson by setting up two goals against the Foxes in his last outing for the Yorkshire outfit.

The opportunity to earn a permament deal at Championship level appealed to the 21-year-old after a fee was agreed between the two clubs.

"He's been absolutely superb," commented Barnsley boss Keith Hill to the Sheffield Star. "I believe he will be a Premier League player one day."

City boss Pearson, who worked with plenty of former Reds during his time as Hull City manager, told the club's official website: "Danny is a young and hungry player and his ambitions match those of the club."

Drinkwater has signed a contract that will run until 2015.
