Faustino Marcos Alberto Rojo

Faustino Marcos Alberto Rojo (born 20 March 1990) is an Argentine footballer who plays for Sporting CP and the Argentina national football team.

Club career

Estudiantes LP
Rojo grew up in La Plata, Argentina and joined his local side Estudiantes de La Plata at the age of ten.

In 2009, he got promotion to the club’s main team, after signing his first professional contract. He spent three years with the club, making 43 appearances and scoring three goals for the team.

During his time at Estudiantes, Rojo won a Copa Libertadores and an Argentine Primera Division title. The defender spent most matches at left back and developed a reputation as a capable attacker, scoring his first goal in a 2–1 defeat against LDU Quito in the 2010 Recopa Sudamericana.

Spartak Moscow
By the end of his spell with Estudiantes, at the age of 21, Rojo joined Spartak Moscow. His time in Moscow was as unsuccessful as it was short-lived, however, with the defender seeking pastures new within a year of his arrival.

Sporting CP
Rojo transferred to Sporting Clube de Portugal for £3.5 million on 19 July 2012.

International career

Since 2011, Rojo has become a representative of the Argentina national team, appearing regularly. He was first capped on 9 February 2011 in a friendly match against Portugal. He also played in 2011 Copa América and 2014 World Cup qualifying.

In June 2014, Rojo was named in Argentina's squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He made his FIFA World Cup debut in Argentina's 2–1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Estádio do Maracanã, playing the full match in defence. In the team's third group match, Rojo scored his first international goal during a 3–2 victory against Nigeria. The country reached the final before losing to Germany, and Rojo was the only Argentinean named in the Castrol Index Top 11 for the tournament.

Rojo honoured to join United

New signing Marcos Rojo has expressed his delight at joining Manchester United and insists it will be a "great honour" to pull on the club's famous red shirt this season.

The Argentinian defender was officially unveiled as a United player at the Aon Training Complex on Friday following his £16 million switch from Sporting Lisbon earlier this week and has vowed to give his all to the team.

“Thank you for the welcome, I’m very happy to be here at the biggest club in the world," Rojo told reporters. "It’s a great honour and I’m very pleased to be here, I’ll do the best I can for the club. The transfer was a bit of a long and complicated process, but the most important thing is that I am here now, and I’m very happy.

“For me, this is certainly the biggest league in the world. I always watched it when I was younger, and an important aspect is that there are many young players who come here to the Premier League to improve their game, and I hope I can now do the same.

“I have received messages from all of Manchester City’s Argentine players, congratulating me on the move and welcoming me to Manchester, we know each other outside of football and have been in contact."

Rojo came up against United boss Louis van Gaal earlier this summer, as he helped Argentina to a first World Cup final appearance for 24 years. Interestingly, van Gaal admits he had been tracking the defender's performances in Brazil and believes he has the necessary attributes to succeed at Old Trafford.

“I faced him in the World Cup when we came up against Argentina, so I have had a chance to analyse him," the boss explained. "It is my philosophy to only buy players who fit the profile, and I think Marcos fits the profile as a left-sided central defender, as well as a left wing-back. He played as a left wing-back for Argentina at the World Cup, but as a centre-back at Sporting Lisbon. He was fantastic at the World Cup so I’m very pleased.

“First of all, he needs to have good spatial awareness on the pitch because we are defending spaces, that is the first thing I said to him. He also has to be a good header of the ball because teams in this league like to play long balls from the back.*

"His build-up play has to be good, but I liked the way he played in World Cup. He’ll need to be aggressive at the right moments though, that is possibly my only criticism. He has to control himself at all times in order to improve, and maybe I can help him.”

Rojo: I will give everything for United

Marcos Rojo gave his exclusive first interview to MUTV, saying he has joined the world's biggest club and promises to "play each game as if it's my last"...

Welcome to Manchester United. How does it feel to be here and to be signing for this club?
Thanks very much. I'm very happy as this is a big step forward in my career and it's amazing to be joining the biggest club in the world.

What do you know about the club, the history, the players?
I know a lot about the club because I always follow the Premier League and Manchester United were always my team because they were the biggest and the best. Juan Sebastian Veron played for United and was a great player and I always watched his progress. United were always my club.

There has been a lot of talk and speculation about the move. How have the last few days been for you?
It's taken a while for everything to get sorted out because these transfers can be very difficult, but I'm so happy to be here at Manchester United.

How did you feel when you heard for the first time that Louis van Gaal wanted to sign you?
It was unbelievable. We played against his team in the World Cup and they were excellent. When I heard that he wanted me to come here I was very happy but also very proud and very excited to get an opportunity at a club like this.

What do you think your best qualities are as a footballer?
I always give everything I have in a game and I leave everything out there on the pitch. I play each game as if it could be my last. That's the most important thing in my philosophy.

What do you think you can achieve here, with the team and also on a personal level?
I think the most important thing is that I keep growing as a player and keep improving. I have worked really hard for this opportunity and now I am at the biggest club in the world and I want to win trophies.

Finally, there are a lot of people here at the club now who can speak Spanish so that should help you settle in and get used to your new surroundings...
Absolutely, that will certainly help me as I get used to life in this country and will help me get settled into the team as quickly as possible.

United sign Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon

- Argentina international joins on five-year contract
- Nani to join Sporting Lisbon on loan

Manchester United is delighted to announce the signing of defender Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of €20m, with Nani joining the Portuguese club on a season-long loan. Marcos joins on a five-year contract.

Rojo, 24, joined Sporting from Spartak Moscow, having started his career at his home town team of Estudiantes de la Plata. Marcos has played 28 times for Argentina since making his debut three years ago and played six games, including the final, in his country's run to the recent FIFA World Cup final, scoring in the last group game against Nigeria. He was named as one of the defenders in the Castrol Index All Star Team of the tournament.

Marcos Rojo said: "It is such an honour to say that I now play for Manchester United. The Premier League is the most exciting league in the world and to have the chance to play in it for the world's biggest club is a dream for me. I am young and am very keen to continue to learn the game, so playing for such an experienced technical coach as Louis van Gaal is a fantastic opportunity for me. I have joined United to work hard with my team-mates to win trophies and I know that the manager shares that ambition."

Louis van Gaal said: "Marcos is a very gifted defender. He has played at the highest level in world football and can play either as a central defender or left-back. He has ability, physical strength and a willingness to learn that means he has a very bright future ahead of him. He had a very strong World Cup and has been playing in Europe for a couple of years now. He is a very good addition to the team."

Rojo's World Cup story

New Manchester United signing Marcos Rojo was a key figure in Argentina's run to the 2014 World Cup final, missing just one of their seven matches and being rated statistically as one of the tournament's top players.

Aside from the quarter-final against Belgium, for which the 24-year-old was suspended, Rojo started all of his country's matches in Brazil, including a penalty shoot-out victory over Louis van Gaal's Netherlands as well as the final itself against eventual champions Germany.

He has now made 28 appearances at international level, having won his first cap in a friendly against Portugal in 2011. During the World Cup he also achieved another significant milestone, as he netted his first goal for La Albiceleste*in the 3-2 group stage triumph over Nigeria.

"Rojo won the hearts of the Argentines at the World Cup," said Atletico Madrid manager and fellow countryman, Diego Simeone. "He was very good both attacking and defending. [Coach] Alejandro Sabella put his trust in him and he responded really well. He had an excellent World Cup and was the best left-back among the four semi-finalists."

Marcos Rojo will miss out on a Manchester United debut against MK Dons on Tuesday due to ongoing delays in securing a work permit for the Argentina defender.

With manager Louis van Gaal planning to make wholesale changes for the Capital One Cup second round tie at stadium:mk, Rojo had been expected to face the League One outfit after missing the 1-1 draw at Sunderland as a result of the club’s inability to gain a permit for the 24-year-old, who completed a £16m transfer from Sporting Lisbon last Tuesday.

But senior figures at United have confirmed today that Rojo will not be available for the fixture and is now waiting for his application to be rubber-stamped in time for the Premier League trip to Burnley on Saturday.

Marcos Rojo, bukan pemain favorit ane sebetulnya. Bertato lagi kayak preman beuh hehe. Tinggal nunggu work permit aja deh, ga sabar pengen liat doi main untuk United :-bd

Marcos Rojo's move to Manchester United yet to be signed off by Premier League

* Transfer waiting to be approved, in part because of Sporting Lisbon's association with Doyen
* The funding group are claiming 75 per cent of the £16m transfer fee
* Delay would need to be resolved by 12pm on Friday if Rojo is to face Burnley
* Rojo is yet to play for Louis van Gaal since he arrived at Old Trafford

Louis van Gaal’s defensive concerns could deepen after it emerged that the Premier League are yet to sign off on Marcos Rojo’s transfer, partly because of Sporting Lisbon’s involvement with funding group Doyen.

Rojo moved to United for £16million eight days ago but has not yet played for Van Gaal. It had been thought that obtaining a work permit was the only delay in his registration being ratified but Sportsmail understands that the Premier League are still processing the paperwork associated with Doyen’s claim to 75 per cent of the transfer fee.

The delay would need to be overcome by 12pm on Friday if Rojo is to be eligible for the important encounter with Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon. It is uncertain whether that will prove the case.

When Rojo was bought by Sporting from Spartak Moscow for £3.5m in 2012 Doyen are understood to have loaned the Portuguese club most of the money. In return the investment fund would receive 75 per cent of any future transfer fee or be repaid in full at a set interest rate – as with a lending bank. But a row between Sporting’s new president Bruno de Carvalho and Doyen broke out when he discovered the arrangement and claimed the club were being put under pressure to sell Rojo to United.

Doyen insisted this was never the case but in the end the Argentina international did switch to Old Trafford. Sporting received £8m immediately, with two further instalments of £4m due but Sportsmail understands Doyen have yet to receive a single penny and are considering legal action that could end up in court. United are not instigated in this in any shape and Doyen’s only concern is holding Sporting to the contract the club signed in 2012.

In training: Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal speaks to his new signing during training

That wrangle in itself is not holding up the Premier League’s legal team but any transfer involving third-party entities is looked at with great care after the Carlos Tevez affair.

On a similar basis it took time for deals to be completed for Manchester City’s Eliaquim Mangala and Liverpool’s Lazar Markovic earlier in the window as guarantees on the ownership of their economic rights were sought.

Once the Premier League are satisfied with the issues around Rojo he will be granted permission to play – but until then it leaves Van Gaal without one of his key signings and a defensive headache.

Complete Analysis of Manchester United's Argentina Defender Marcos Rojo

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w257/bu7che/e5fd569ca2c7c0a377d232baac2f24eb_crop_north_zps6e8 46017.jpg (http://s178.photobucket.com/user/bu7che/media/e5fd569ca2c7c0a377d232baac2f24eb_crop_north_zps6e8 46017.jpg.html)

New Manchester United signing Marcos Rojo would surely have heard all about playing at Old Trafford. The 24-year-old defender started his professional career with Estudiantes de La Plata under the watchful eye of captain and legend Juan Sebastian Veron.

Now, the Argentina international has the chance to follow in La Brujita's footsteps, as he prepares for a new life under Louis van Gaal in the north-west of England. According to BBC Sport, the Red Devils paid out £16 million to take Rojo to the club, banking on his budding talent to stem a defence that at times looked downright leaky during the 2013/14 season.

But who is Rojo? Has he the ability and the application to make it not just in one of the most physically demanding leagues in the world but also at a club where success is expected as almost a foregone conclusion? The following is what the left-sided defender will be bringing to the table this year at Old Trafford.

It could be said, rather glibly, admittedly, that Rojo's greatest strength is his strength. The Argentine is not the biggest player around; standing at 6'1", he is on the small side for a modern central defender. But the player is a formidable unit, well built and very hard indeed to shake off.

His physical attributes are second to none. Aside from that power, Rojo is blessed with the pace and the athletic capacity to bomb up and down the left flank, rarely feeling the effects. His work rate was evident to all at the 2014 World Cup, where he proved Argentina's revelation of the tournament and, among other achievements, kept Arjen Robben quieter than perhaps any other defender in Brazil.

Like most of his countrymen that make the grade in Europe, the ex-Sporting man possesses decent distribution and rarely fails with the ball at his feet.

As a youngster at Estudiantes, playing even further up the pitch, he came to attention thanks to a blistering left foot. That missile notched him more than a few goals in Argentina, and while his threat has diminished somewhat as he embraces the role of an orthodox defender, all he needs is one chance to release a thundering shot.

But he has one more secret weapon: an impressive ability in the air. Rojo belies his average height with an excellent leap, and along with his towering header against Nigeria in the World Cup, there have been more than a few goals for Sporting registered from set pieces.

Last but not least, the new Red Devils man brings a great versatility into the squad. A natural left-back, Rojo was converted into a central defender while playing in Portugal, and as a youngster, he was accustomed to playing as a wing-back—almost a winger.

The La Plata native is a player that thrives in physical battles. But when he is not in possession of the ball or close to the action, several fragile areas suddenly become evident.

Rojo's positioning and awareness can be suspect at times. He struggles to track runners in the channel between left-back and the centre, guilty of watching the ball and not his man and leaving him badly placed when play does eventually run into that sector.

At times, it may seem that discipline is a problem for the youngster. Certainly, a liberal amount of yellow cards through his career hint at that issue.

But this is misleading.

Most of Rojo's infractions become necessary for the player due to his lack of spacial awareness. Having already seen his opponent gain the advantage, he is forced to "take one for the team" and commit the foul, something that in the position he occupies more often than not will result in a card.

Going forward as well, the player can often be extremely frustrating to watch. His crossing and final-ball ability does not measure up to his prowess in breaking into the attack, meaning Manchester United fans will have to get used to groaning in disappointment as he fires a promising situation out wide far beyond those located in the box.

While Rojo would not have been at the top of most United fans' summer wish lists, Van Gaal knows what type of player he has purchased. While hardly among the most technically proficient players in the world, the ex-Estudiantes kid is a solid performer who, if he can correct those lapses off the ball, should be able to assert himself in the hectic pace of the Premier League.

The £16million Manchester United signing from Sporting Lisbon has been unable to collect his visa owing to his alleged involvement in a criminal investigation dating back to 2010 for which he has not been charged.

He initially travelled to England on a tourist visa last month but already qualified for his work permit automatically having played 75 per cent of Argentina's internationals over the past two years.

Rojo, 24, was with the Argentina squad in Germany on Wednesday and Thursday and will travel to the British Embassy in Lisbon on Friday to get the necessary paperwork attached to his passport.

That will allow him access to the UK on a work visa and will put him in contention to make his debut against Queens Park Rangers next Sunday, September 14.

United confirmed the UK Border Agency had finally agreed to grant Rojo a visa on Thursday.

Rojo completed his move to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon on August 20.

Welcome. Manchester United have finally added to their squad, but they're still a few player's short to challenge in my opinion. Nonetheless, the following gallery is going to fill you in on 8 facts you might not have known on United's recent recruit Marcos Rojo. How many did you know? Written by Jackson Mcgauley.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w257/bu7che/album%20sept/ns_argentina_203-500x453_zps1dd67045.jpg (http://s178.photobucket.com/user/bu7che/media/album%20sept/ns_argentina_203-500x453_zps1dd67045.jpg.html)

8) Rojo's name The Argentinian's name isn't as simple as Marcos Rojo, in fact he has a rather cool and unique name. The defender's full name is actually Faustino Marcos Alberto Rojo, now let's be honest, that's a lot cooler than just plain, old, Luke Shaw.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w257/bu7che/album%20sept/20119029_zps699ce37d.jpg (http://s178.photobucket.com/user/bu7che/media/album%20sept/20119029_zps699ce37d.jpg.html)

7) The Rabona To say Rojo is a fan of the Rabona is an understatement. The defender loves to pull of this trick, and regularly does, whether he's attacking or just clearing the ball! Top-stuff and it will certainly go down well with the Old Trafford faithful! Awesome!

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w257/bu7che/album%20sept/MarcosRojoFCSpartakMoscowvVolgaNizhnyhI-rujkIx04l-594x453_zps0ed227b9.jpg (http://s178.photobucket.com/user/bu7che/media/album%20sept/MarcosRojoFCSpartakMoscowvVolgaNizhnyhI-rujkIx04l-594x453_zps0ed227b9.jpg.html)

6) Started his European playing career in Russia Rojo first played in Europe for Russian side Spartak Moscow, after joining the club in 2010 from his boyhood club Estudiantes. However, the defender didn't enjoy his time in Russia and was looking for a move after just one year of joining the club. Rojo finally got his wish in July 2012 when he joined Sporting! A good career move I think!

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w257/bu7che/album%20sept/MR2_B_zps1ce5e20a.jpg (http://s178.photobucket.com/user/bu7che/media/album%20sept/MR2_B_zps1ce5e20a.jpg.html)

5) Rojo makes Sporting a huge profit Rojo joined the Portuguese side for just £3.5million two summers ago, meaning he has earned the Portuguese club a profit of over £12million pounds. Talk about making some profit! To boot, Sporting have been able to take Nani back on loan to the club! A great deal for both clubs!

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w257/bu7che/album%20sept/MarcosRojoArgentinavSwitzerlandkI1NI5fhAtFl_zpsc45 3cb85.jpg (http://s178.photobucket.com/user/bu7che/media/album%20sept/MarcosRojoArgentinavSwitzerlandkI1NI5fhAtFl_zpsc45 3cb85.jpg.html)

4) A versatile player The Argentinian is a versatile defender who can play in a number of positions along the back, and indeed further forward. Rojo is likely to be played, initially, in the left-centre back position at the club. However, he can also play at left-back or at wing-back, which will come in handy for Louis Van Gaal when he plays his favoured 3-5-2 formation with United.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w257/bu7che/album%20sept/marcos-rojo-tattoo-3_zps0c16ebaf.jpg (http://s178.photobucket.com/user/bu7che/media/album%20sept/marcos-rojo-tattoo-3_zps0c16ebaf.jpg.html)

3) Tattoos The defender loves a tattoo, and most likely has them all over his body. Rojo even has some on his thighs! Rojo, like several other Premier League stars including Daniel Agger, sure loves his ink. It won't be too long before he is absolutely covered in them! Great work!

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w257/bu7che/album%20sept/Rojo-634x453_zps7821e766.jpg (http://s178.photobucket.com/user/bu7che/media/album%20sept/Rojo-634x453_zps7821e766.jpg.html)

2) He's not cheap The defender certainly isn't costing the 20-time Premier League nothing. According to some reports, the defender will cost United upwards of £20million pounds. This is due to the fact United will still be paying Nani's wages, even though he won't play for them for the remainder of the season! When you look at it that way, are United really getting their money's worth?

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w257/bu7che/album%20sept/marcos_rojo_0207_840_593_100-806x453_zps0b65d42e.jpg (http://s178.photobucket.com/user/bu7che/media/album%20sept/marcos_rojo_0207_840_593_100-806x453_zps0b65d42e.jpg.html)

1) Rojo isn't afraid of a challenge The 24-year-old is certainly a fiery character, to say the least. The defender holds the impressive record of picking up 21 yellow cards in his last 49 appearances, with four red cards too! This defender certainly doesn't back out of a challenge, although this could lead to the ultimate penalty! Rojo will certainly need to calm down this season.

* Rojo signed for United three weeks ago
* Work permit problems have meant Rojo has been unavailable
* Argentine defender should start against QPR on Sunday

Manchester United's new defender Marcos Rojo returned from international duty with Argentina to prepare for his debut against QPR on Sunday.

Rojo is yet to play for his new club despite signing three weeks ago, due to work permit complications.

He has represented his country in that time, playing the full 90 minutes against Germany last week in the repeat of the World Cup final.

Eager: The United defender is keen to start playing for his new club and joining the other top signings

But the Argentine centre-back is now eligible for Louis van Gaal and is expected to start at Old Trafford this weekend.

'I am desperate to get onto the field and play because I have not been able to step onto Old Trafford [yet],' said Rojo, whilst on international duty with Argentina this week.

'My life has changed a lot. I am very happy to be at Manchester United, a top team in the world, sharing a dressing room with players like Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Angel Di Maria and now Radamel Falcao.

'This is a very important step in my career as a player and as a person. Everything that has happened to me since the World Cup has been a dream.'

Rojo loving life as a Red

Argentinian defender Marcos Rojo has been a Manchester United player for less than two months, but has already settled into life as a Red.

The defender, who put in an admirable display in central defence against West Ham last weekend, spoke to MUTV about settling in off the pitch in Manchester and his views about the team's progress on the field.

"Things are going very well," says United's no.5. "My family are with me, which is great, and we are enjoying living here. We are still sorting out a house, so I'm in a hotel at the moment. But I'm very happy and settled in the city. I really like Manchester.

"So far I've managed to play three games. We lost one of them but overall I think we've done well. I've been quite pleased with how it's gone."

Rojo is also taking English lessons alongside fellow new recruit and countryman Angel Di Maria. "I really like the English language so I always go to my lessons excited and ready to learn," he says. "This way I'll be able to communicate better with my teammates.*The two of us are tackling it together. It's going really well and learning together makes it more fun."

Asked if anything had surprised him since his summer move from Portugal, Rojo says the fans inside Old Trafford have already left a lasting impression. He added: "I've played in many stadia around the world but the atmosphere when you come out of the tunnel at Old Trafford is like nothing I've ever experienced before at any of my former clubs."

Marcos Rojo has enjoyed playing with several different defenders early in his Manchester United career, an opportunity presented by the team's ongoing injury problems at the back.
In his first four games for the Reds, Rojo has already lined up alongside Jonny Evans, Paddy McNair, Chris Smalling, Tyler Blackett, Rafael and Luke Shaw in the back four.
That lack of stability might affect some players but Rojo insists he's happy to play with anybody. His most recent centre-back partner was 19-year-old McNair in the wins over West Ham and Everton.
The Argentinian, currently on international duty (http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2014/Oct/manchester-united-players-set-for-euro-2016-qualifying-double-headers.aspx), told MUTV (http://www.manutd.com/mutv): "It's never good to have too many injuries, but this is a big club and there is a lot of depth and quality in the squad.
"I'm happy playing alongside all the different guys because I'm very comfortable with all of them. I've played with Paddy and he is a player with a big future. Tyler has impressed too. But I just love being on the pitch and I really don’t mind who I play with."
With a powerful physique and a tough-tackling style, Rojo seems ideally suited to the hustle and bustle of the Barclays Premier League.
"It's the biggest league in the Europe and probably the world," the 24-year-old continued. "I've always loved watching Premier League football and wanted to play here.
"The football is very direct, quick and physical, which makes it attractive for the fans. I really like playing here – I’m relishing the challenge."
Rojo has enjoyed being managed by Louis van Gaal, who he feels will "bring the best" out of the players.
"He’s brilliant," the Reds no.5 added. "He’s always giving me advice, telling me how to improve my game, my movement.
"He’s a great manager who always wants to win and that’s the message he gets across to us. He wants the best and that’s what he demands from his team."

Marcos Rojo's Argentina pride

Marcos Rojo was as hurt as anyone by Argentina’s World Cup final defeat in July but says his national team are now solely focused the future.

Rojo was in the side that lost 1-0 to Germany after extra-time in Brazil, a game his Manchester United team-mate Angel Di Maria missed through injury.

Argentina have since beaten their final foes 4-2 in a friendly but Rojo admits that win could never make up for what happened in Rio de Janeiro.

"It doesn’t change what happened," the Reds defender told ManUtd.com. "It was painful for us to lose the final against them.

"We wanted to win the cup and it eluded us but now we have to put it behind us. We have to move forward and think of what’s ahead. We have the Copa America in 2015, so now our focus is to be prepared for the upcoming games."

Those aforementioned fixtures are both in Asia: a glamour friendly against Brazil in Beijing on Saturday, followed by a trip to Hong Kong two days later.

"The match against Brazil will be very tough," Rojo added. "It is a derby for the Americas and for the world, I would say. It is a very important game for us and we will try to win, like we always do. Hong Kong are not a well-known team, but Asian football has grown a lot and it will also be difficult."

Rojo has already shown a lot of pride in the United shirt, celebrating the team’s goals and victories with gusto, and he is also passionate about representing his country.

"The national team is incredible," he said. "I think that any player dreams of representing his country. The chance to represent mine is something special and I never take it for granted."

Pacar Marcos Rojo Gugat Status Gol Juan Mata

(isn/mri)

Rojo Tak Takut Permainan Keras Premier League

Rojo Klaim Lebih Jago Bahasa Inggris Ketimbang Di Maria
Femidiah - detikSport

Manchester - Duo Argentina, Angel Di maria dan Marcos Rojo, mendapatkan tugas tambahan dari manajer tim Louis van Gaal di awal musim. Keduanya wajib bisa berbahasa Inggris. Bagaimana perkembangannya?

Marcos Rojo Akui Dirinya 'Berkepribadian Ganda'

Marcos Rojo Ingin Segera Merumput Lagi
Meylan Fredy Ismawan - detikSport

Unggah Foto Gembong Narkoba, Rojo Terancam Sanksi

(mir/rer)

Lagi, Satu Bintang MU Tersandung Kasus Skandal Seks

Bola.net - Skandal baru menimpa salah satu bintang Manchester United, Marcos Rojo.

(mir/rer)

McGrath Sebut Rojo Pemain Berkelas

Begini Pendapat Marcos Rojo Tentang Louis van Gaal

"Van Gaal jauh, sangat pendiam, tapi memiliki banyak pengalaman.

Rojo Percaya Van Gaal Segera Beri MU Trofi

Hanya masalah waktu saja sebelum Manchester United memenangkan trofi," pungkasnya.

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo facing £140,000 fine after failing to make US tour because he didn't renew passport

* Marcos Rojo did not join up with Manchester United squad as planned
* The Old Trafford club are currently on a pre-season tour of North America
* Rojo was given an extended break after participation in the Copa America
* Argentine was due to fly to US on Saturday but did not board the plane
* Rojo had not renewed his passport and is now set to be fined by club

Marcos Rojo is set to be fined two weeks' wages after the Argentine failed to join up with the Manchester United squad on their pre-season tour of North America.

The defender was due to link up with his team-mates in the United States on Saturday night but was not allowed to board the flight because of passport issues.

Manager Louis Van Gaal was far from happy when the Argentina international missed his scheduled flight to San Jose on Friday after not getting his passport renewed despite having an extended break following the Copa America.

Marcos Rojo is facing a two-week fine for not boarding a flight to the US as he hadn't renewed his passport
The Argentine was not helped by the fact that compatriot

Angel di Maria also failed to make his scheduled flight to join the team as he closes in on a £46.5million move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Rojo is now set to be £140,000 out of pocket for his error, which left Van Gaal fuming as the club continue their preparations for start of the Premier League season on August 8.

After United's 3-1 win against Barcelona on Saturday the Dutch manager revealed the pair had not arrived as planned.

'I have heard he (Di Maria) was not on the plane,' said Van Gaal. 'I cannot say anything. Marcos Rojo was not on the plane, he had a passport issue but with Di Maria I don't know why.'
Van Gaal had insisted that Di Maria would meet up with the United squad but the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss has already told his players that he will be joining the French champions.

In spite of the pair's absence, United have enjoyed a fine pre-season in the US.

They beat Mexican outfit Club America in Seattle 1-0, after a goal from new signing Morgan Schneiderlin, and then defeated San Jose Earthquakes 3-1 at the Avaya Stadium four days later.

And on Saturday they maintained their 100% record as they beat European champions Barcelona 3-1 at the Levi's Stadium, California.

The Red Devils take on Paris Saint-Germain at Soldier Field, Illinois on Thursday with the intention of going into their first Premier League game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur, on August 8, on the hottest streak possible.

Semua Pemain Fit, tapi MU Belum Bisa Mainkan Rojo
Rossi Finza Noor - detikSport

Bakal seru nih lawan Ajax U-21 :)

Rojo to play for Under-21s against Ajax

Louis van Gaal has confirmed Marcos Rojo will improve his match fitness by playing for 60 minutes when Manchester United's Under-21s play a behind-closed-doors friendly match against Ajax's second team on Thursday.

The Argentina international took part in the Copa America this summer and was therefore given an extended rest upon the tournament’s completion.

Rojo has since been working hard to build his physical condition at the Aon Training Complex but is yet to play in a first-team fixture this season, with van Gaal saying he needs to improve his “match rhythm.”

However, during the pre-match press conference for Wednesday’s Champions League encounter with Club Brugge, the manager revealed his powerful centre-back will feature for the Under-21s this week.

Asked if it is hard to provide all of his players with game time when the U21s do not have a competitive fixture scheduled for the next month, van Gaal told reporters: “You are right that is a problem.

“The only way is to play matches in the second team because that is the first step to coming back, so now seven or eight players have to play against Ajax, their second team, on Thursday because they also need to play 90 minutes,” he continued. “Rojo shall also play 60 minutes.”

Earlier, van Gaal was keen to point out that United are not taking the second leg against Club Brugge lightly and also explained why he feels the Reds can succeed in Europe this season.

Marcos Rojo's Manchester United future in doubt after bust-up with Louis van Gaal

* Defender Marcos Rojo has not figured for Manchester United this season
* Argentina international angered manager Louis van Gaal in the summer
* Rojo was fined after failing to join up with United for their pre-season tour
* The 25-year-old was initially offered in deal for Monaco's Anthony Martial

Marcos Rojo's long-term future with Manchester United has been plunged into doubt after he had a serious bust-up with Louis van Gaal.

The Argentine defender, who cost £16million when he arrived at the club 12 months ago from Sporting Lisbon, has not figured in the squad once this season as Van Gaal has preferred to use Daley Blind alongside Chris Smalling.

He enraged Van Gaal earlier this summer and was fined £140,000, which amounts to two weeks' wages, after he failed to join up with United for their pre-season tour of North America because of passport issues.

Marcos Rojo's future at Manchester United is in no doubt after a serious bust up with manager Louis van Gaal

Tensions between the pair have been building since then, with Van Gaal having raised concerns about Rojo's fitness and it is understood the 25-year-old has clashed with his manager over the way he has been treated.

It now leaves Rojo, who played 60 minutes of a friendly against Ajax last Thursday, in a difficult position, as Van Gaal would be open to the prospect of him leaving on a deadline day.

When United were discussing terms with Monaco over the deal for Antony Martial, Rojo was initially put forward as being part of the deal. Valencia also registered an interest before the Spanish deadline closed.

Despite his ongoing problems, Rojo wants to stay at the club.

'I have received offers but my idea is to stay here [United] and fight for a position because it is a great club,' he told ESPN Radio.

'I'll try to play as much as possible. I talked to Van Gaal when I returned and was upset by everything that had happened but he said he was counting on me.'

Rojo Akui Sempat Kena Semprot Van Gaal

Rojo: Van Gaal Tak Anti-Amerika Selatan

Rojo Tak Ingin Tinggalkan Man United

Rojo Absen Dari Skuat Argentina Atas Permintaan Van Gaal

Louis van Gaal and Wayne Rooney have launched a stern defence of Marcos Rojo and his quality in the face of criticism for his performances with former club Spartak Moscow.

Rojo joined the Russian club in December 2010 but only made 19 first-team appearances before completing a transfer to Sporting Lisbon in July 2012. He excelled in Portugal and later shone at the 2014 World Cup with Argentina, which led to his switch to Manchester United later that summer.

But during Tuesday night’s pre-match press conference for United’s Champions League tie with CSKA Moscow, one Russian journalist questioned Rojo’s performances with Spartak and even asked van Gaal why he signed the defender. As you might expect, the boss provided an impassioned response.

“I didn’t know that he played for Spartak Moscow, but I have seen him in the World Cup in Brazil when he played for Argentina,” the manager explained at Arena Kimkhi. “He did it very well and he also played for Sporting Lisbon. There I analysed him. What I like is that he is physically a very strong guy, he has a good header of the ball and his pass is very fast.

“That is what we always need, we need a high speed in our positional game. When he improves and he can reach a very high level because he is not fully developed yet. I think there is great potential in him to become a very good player for Manchester United.”

Rooney was also asked what it’s like to train against Rojo – with the journalist being as bold to say it “was easy to get around him with Spartak” – and the captain gave his honest assessment.

“For me as Marcos’s team-mate, I can say that he is a fantastic player and a fantastic person,” Wayne explained. “He is a player who is very tough to get around, as the manager says.

"For him to be from Argentina and to come and play in the Premier League is not easy but he has done a great job and he will be a very important player for us for the rest of the season.”

At this point in the press conference, van Gaal decided to ask the journalist who had started the line of questioning about Rojo for his age. When the reporter replied "26", the manager continued to explain why his criticism of his player was unfair and premature.

“When you are 26, you can still develop yourself and Marcos Rojo has developed himself,” the Dutchman said. “Marcos Rojo is also 25 years old so he is still developing.”

'Rojo Bisa Lebih Baik Lagi'
Lucas Aditya - detikSport

Soal performa Rojo, Louis Van Gaal mempunyai keyakinan tinggi.

Louis van Gaal: Marcos Rojo has great potential at Manchester United... he can reach the highest level if he keeps growing

* Marcos Rojo has been backed to fulfil his potential at Manchester United
* Rojo impressed at left back during the 3-0 win against Everton on Saturday

Louis van Gaal believes Marcos Rojo can fulfil his 'great potential' at Manchester United because the 25-year-old defender is still at the developing stage of his career.

Rojo has managed just three appearances in all competitions this season due to injury but impressed at left back in United's 3-0 win over Everton in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday.

The Argentina international is expected to keep his place against CSKA Moscow in their Champions League tie on Wednesday night with Rojo's manager backing the £16million signing.

Marcos Rojo looked impressive at left back in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Everton on Saturday

Rojo previously had an unsuccessful spell with CSKA's rivals, Spartak Moscow, and was seemingly mocked by Russian journalists during the pre-match press conference with Van Gaal.

The manager was quick to defend Rojo, however, and said: 'I saw him at the World Cup in Brazil when he played for Argentina.

'He did it very well and he also played for Sporting CP. There I analysed him. What I like is that he is physically a very strong guy, he is a good header of the ball and his pass is very fast.

'That is what we always need, we need a high speed in our positional game.

'I think there is great potential in him to become a very good player for Manchester United when he improves. He can reach a very high level because he is not fully developed yet.'

Rojo joined United from Sporting Lisbon in August 2014 and has made 24 appearances in the Premier League, scoring once.

United's trip to Moscow could prove crucial with all four teams in Group B currently on three points after two games. Van Gaal also has the Manchester derby to consider on Sunday, however.

One of the positives to stem from Sunday's Manchester derby was the excellent performance of Marcos Rojo, who has since been praised by manager Louis van Gaal and Phil Jones.

The Argentinian started the match at left-back in the long-term absence of Luke Shaw and quickly found himself in a personal duel with Kevin De Bruyne, the Belgium international who has excelled for his new manager Manuel Pellegrini since joining the Blues from Wolfsburg in the summer.

On the whole, Rojo got the better of De Bruyne and largely kept him at bay for much of Sunday’s match, repeatedly stealing possession from the City new boy and forcing him to become a peripheral figure in the game, so much so that the City man was switched to the opposite wing 10 minutes into the second half, when Pellegrini introduced Jesus Navas.

It was a particularly impressive performance from Rojo when you consider his lack of match sharpness, having missed the first seven matches of the season in all competitions. Speaking to MUTV after the final whistle at Old Trafford, van Gaal reserved a few words of praise for his defender.

“Rojo played a very good match, not only against De Bruyne but also against Jesus Navas,” the manager said. “He had very good passes and very good crosses so I am very satisfied with him.

“It is only his third game this season; he has hardly played for 90 minutes. It is maybe the first time he has played for 90 minutes. I am very happy that at last he has the condition to play a full match.”

Rojo played alongside Jones in defence, another player who missed the start of the campaign, and the England international was also complimentary when quizzed on the South American’s display.

“I thought Marcos was terrific,” Phil told MUTV. “His passing was great and he was a threat going forward, and he was solid defensively as well. It was a top performance.”

Rojo Pelan-Pelan Mulai Memikat Van Gaal
Mohammad Resha Pratama - detikSport

Jones Performa Hebat Dari Marcos Rojo

Sukses Matikan De Bruyne, Neville Puji Rojo

Argentinian defender Marcos Rojo was hurt by Manchester United's midweek cup exit - but he's otherwise enjoying his return from injury...

How do you reflect on the cup tie against Middlesbrough?
It was a fairly tough game. They sat back and waited for us, defending together as a team, and in the first half it was very difficult to get in behind them, either through the middle or down either flank. In the second half we played a lot better and created a lot of chances, and it was the same in extra time, too: the best chances fell to us, but we couldn’t manage to convert any of them. So then it went to penalties, which are always a lottery, and unfortunately it wasn’t to be for us this time. It hurt a lot and we were still smarting afterwards because it’s an important competition and we wanted to go a lot further in it.

On the positive side, you kept a second clean sheet in a row. As a defender, do you enjoy those?
You enjoy keeping a clean sheet but at the same time you don’t enjoy not scoring a goal because football is about scoring goals and winning games. So coming off the back of two games on the trot without being on the mark does hurt and frustrate you a bit, but we are doing a good job at the back and defending well; we just need to turn the chances that we’re creating into goals.

Do you and the team feel a lot of pressure when you’re facing a lower-league side or is it just a different challenge compared to a Premier League game?
It is different, because of course all the pressure is on us. But then it’s a bit like that in every home game throughout the season; the onus is on us to take the initiative and look for the victory. Yet it’s accentuated when the team is from a lower league as I feel they come here to defend and hold on for any result they can get; if they win it’s great for them but a defeat is just what is expected anyway. The pressure is always on us but generally we deal with that and go all out to try to win the game.

Crystal Palace are the next opponents. They’ve lost their last three games after winning three in a row, so is it difficult to know what to expect from them?
It’s going to be a tough game down at their place. They will be strong and will try and take the game to us, but we need to go there ready to battle hard for the entire 90 minutes if we want to grab all three points.

They have a host of tricky wingers including Yannick Bolasie, Bakary Sako and former United player Wilfried Zaha, so you’re likely to be facing someone with pace and a few skills…
For sure! I’ve seen a few of their games and they are very skilful and above all very quick, so we are going to have to be on our guard and mark them tightly to deny them the space they need to play well.

What have you made of United’s start to the season and league position?
I think we’re doing OK so far. Maybe our form has dropped off a little in the last couple of games, but that can be expected when you are playing so many games one after another, every midweek. I think we’re fine; we are in a decent position in the Champions League and also right behind City in the league here at home. We have to maintain our good form and fight hard in every game to make sure we are in with a shout for the title at the end of the season.

Has the campaign turned out as you’d expected so far?
Yes, I think so. When you begin a new campaign you always hope to be right up there in the table, really contesting the title, so yes, I think we’re doing that quite well.

How much do you feel United can achieve this season?
I think we can be involved in the title race this season, and try to win it, which is very important for us. As I say, we’re doing OK up to now, but we have to keep this going right to the end of the season. In the Champions League it’s a similar story: we’re quite well set and getting through to the last 16 is in our own hands. But it’s a tough competition with some difficult teams, so first of all it’s about ensuring you get through the group stages and then try to take things game by game.

How much are you enjoying your football at the moment?
At first it was hard for me to begin to get back into the team, but I trained hard to be able to earn my place in the starting XI, so now it’s about enjoying my football now that I’m featuring and that’s exactly what I’m doing.

Marcos Rojo is determined to nail down the left-back position at Manchester United in Luke Shaw’s absence – although he admits it is not the way he hoped to regain his starting place.

Shaw had made a brilliant start to the 2015/16 season but unfortunately suffered a horrific double fracture of the leg during the UEFA Champions League defeat at PSV Eindhoven in September.

It is an injury that will probably rule the England international out for the rest of the campaign, despite Louis van Gaal stating the 20-year-old has shown signs of progress in his rehabilitation.

In contrast, Rojo missed the first seven matches following a taxing summer at the Copa America and coincidentally made his first appearance when replacing Shaw in Holland. After a run of sporadic outings, the no.5 has since become a regular in the team by starting the last six matches in all competitions.

During an exclusive interview with the matchday programme for the 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow, Rojo was asked if he can cement the position with Shaw a long-term absentee. “Yes, I’m going to put in all the work necessary so I can be on form to help out the team in that position,” Marcos told United Review.

“What happened to Luke is a real shame and a player never likes to get into the starting team as a result of an injury to a team-mate, but that has been the case with me and now I have to get my head down and work hard in that role.”

Speaking of hard work on the training ground, Rojo also admits to focusing on his crossing and hopes to improve as the season goes on. “Yes, I have, because I always used to play more as a centre-half,” he said.

“When it was time to move over and play at full-back, I had to work at it, both for club and country. It’s something I continue to work on in training, so I can keep on improving. Crossing the ball well, getting to the byline and helping to finish off a move are all key things I need to do in my position.

“Without a doubt, I have a lot ahead of me to experience in the game. But I try to play every game in the same way, doing my absolute best whoever the opponents are. The manager has said I still have a lot more I can show as a player, and he is someone who is very knowledgeable about the game. All I try to do is train hard every day and keep growing and learning a little bit more.”

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo insists relationship with Louis van Gaal is 'normal' after returning to starting XI

* Louis van Gaal was angry with Marcos Rojo earlier in the summer
* Manchester United defender didn't play in any of the first seven games
* Rojo has started all six since then and has earned praise from Van Gaal
* Argentine says working relationship with Dutch boss is 'normal'

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has described his relationship with boss Louis van Gaal as 'normal' despite a frustrating start to the season.

Relations between the pair appeared strained not long ago, with Van Gaal angry at Rojo over the summer that passport issues had prevented him from joining up with the United's pre-season tour.

It had looked as if the Argentina international might leave the club only a year after his arrival from Sporting Lisbon and, after a move did not materialise, there were then further problems for Rojo when Van Gaal in September claimed he had failed to tell him about a hamstring injury he suffered.

Marcos Rojo says his relationship with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is 'normal'

The 25-year-old did not play in any of United's first seven games this term and only two of the opening 13.

But he has started all six since then, earning praise - including from Van Gaal - for his efforts at left-back.

And asked if he had a good relationship with Van Gaal, Rojo was quoted on Tuesday as telling ESPN: 'It is normal, as with any other coach.

'I don't ask him why he includes me in a game when I play, so I don't have any right in asking him why I don't play when he decides that I don't have to do it. It's as simple as that.

'Van Gaal does the same as any coach in the world. He decides who plays according to what he sees during the week, he chooses the players that he sees in the best condition and we have to accept all the decisions that the coach takes'.

Rojo added of Dutchman Van Gaal, who has a reputation for an uncompromising style of management: 'He is a very professional coach, he wants to get out the very best from each one - that doesn't mean that he is rough.

'He wants his work to have success and we have to understand what he expects from each one of us.'

Rojo: Van Gaal Bukan Pelatih Kejam

"Normal saja, layaknya pelatih lain. Saya tak pernah tanya kenapa ia memainkan saya.

Rojo Sukses Jalani Operasi Bahu

"Operasi saya berjalan sukses.

Bek Manchester United, Marcos Rojo, kaget bukan kepalang terkait berita soal dirinya.

Marcos Rojo determined to regain full fitness

Marcos Rojo feared he had suffered a fresh injury setback during his return to action against Arsenal last weekend, but thankfully the Manchester United defender emerged unscathed and now hopes to accelerate his rehabilitation throughout the remainder of this season.

After missing three months of action while recovering from a dislocated shoulder, Rojo made his comeback in the 5-1 win against FC Midtjylland and then started the 3-2 success over Arsenal. The Argentina international was forced off after 55 minutes of the latter match, however, following a challenge with former Reds striker Danny Welbeck.

Scans later showed Rojo had not suffered another significant problem against the Gunners and the versatile defender was declared fit to face Watford in midweek, although he admits he was worried for a moment.

“When it happened I was concerned that it could be a more serious injury than it turned out to be, but I thought it would be better to come off at that point to be replaced by a player who was at full fitness and save aggravating the injury,” Rojo told MUTV (http://www.manutd.com/mutv), ahead of Sunday's trip to West Brom. “Thankfully it turned out just to be a knock, but it was safer for me to come off as the team come first.

“[Despite coming off] I feel that the Arsenal game did me a lot of good and I got my rhythm back. After three months out with injury it wasn’t easy to come back and it’s not something that should be rushed. It has to be done match-by-match. My goal is obviously to achieve full fitness again and play a full 90 minutes.”

Matteo Darmian dislocated his shoulder in the recent defeat at Sunderland and Rojo has sympathy for the Italian, having suffered a similar blow. “When I was at home and watching the games on TV I saw Matteo taking a shoulder injury and felt really bad for him of course.

“At the time I was asking him how he was and how he was progressing. Thankfully it didn’t turn out to be as serious as mine so it wasn’t quite as a long a recovery process. He would ask me about how I went about my recovery procedure and what I had to do – I’m sure it won’t be long until he is back.”

Rojo now hopes to retain his starting place against West Brom at The Hawthorns and the World Cup finalist expects a difficult game on Sunday. He is also looking forward to seeing his former team-mates Darren Fletcher and Jonny Evans, who obviously know a lot about United’s approach.

“We shared a dressing room with these two guys and they are both really good people,” Rojo told us ahead of kick-off. “They are two great players who, it’s worth noting, will know a lot about us and I’m sure they’ll be telling their manager all about us.

“Certainly it will be a tough match, there is no question,” Rojo continued. “They’ve got players and a manager who are very experienced and it has been discussed here this week as to how we will approach this tough test. We’re ready to take the fight to them and it’s important for us to engage West Brom which is part of our plan to continue on an upward trend and finish in the top four.”

Rojo Lega Dirinya Tak Cedera Serius Saat Lawan Arsenal

Bek Manchester United (http://www.bola.net/club/manchester-united.html), Marcos Rojo (http://www.bola.net/profile/faustino_marcos_alberto_rojo), mengaku sangat senang dirinya ternyata hanya mengalami cedera memar biasa saja ketika membela timnya lawan Arsenal (http://www.bola.net/club/arsenal.html), pekan lalu.

Di pertandingan tersebut, Rojo dimainkan sebagai starter. Ia dimainkan lagi setelah absen cukup lama, sekitar tiga bulan, akibat cedera.

Marcos Rojo Buka Peluang Tinggalkan Man. United

Bek Manchester United, Marcos Rojo, membuka peluang untuk meninggalkan Old Trafford. Pemain berkebangsaan Argentina tersebut mengakui kalau ia memang sangat merindukan klub lamanya, Estudiantes.

Marcos Rojo menjadi salah satu nama yang kemungkinan besar akan dilepas Man. United pada bursa transfer musim panas mendatang. Kerap mendapatkan cedera membuat manajemen The Red Devils kehilangan kesabaran dengan pemain berusia 26 tahun tersebut.

Seakan tahu kalau dirinya semakin tersisih dari skuad Man.

Sejak didatangkan Sporting Lisbon pada musim panas 2014 lalu, Marcos Rojo memang gagal menjawab ekpektasi publik Old Trafford kepadanya.

The United full-back hopes to return to the club where he started his career when his Old Trafford contract expires in three years time

Argentina defender Marcos Rojo wants to return to hometown team Estudiantes when his contract expires at Manchester United in 2019.

Rojo began his professional career with Estudiantes, having progressed through the La Plata club's youth ranks.

Rojo is far from such an established fixture at United, having shuffled between left-back and centre-half while suffering injury setbacks during his two seasons under Louis van Gaal, but outlined similar career plans in an interview with TyCSports.

"I miss the club, my family and my friends," said Rojo, who has also represented Spartak Moscow and Sporting CP during his time in Europe.

"I want to return to Estudiantes once I finish my contract in England."

Argentina - chasing a third consecutive victory - return to action in the Conmebol 2018 World Cup qualifying section on Tuesday, hosting Bolivia in Cordoba.

Rojo does not want his team-mates to take Bolivia lightly as they aim to close the five-point gap to group leaders Ecuador, who left Buenos Aires with a shock 2-0 victory in October.

"The rival on Tuesday is ourselves," the defender added. "We have to go out focused and we must not relax.

"We must go for victory because we lost three points against Ecuador and that cannot happen again."

The story of Marcos Rojo's rise from a poor neighbourhood in La Plata to Manchester United is told in El Diablo Rojo, MUTV's insightful documentary on the Argentina international.

Rojo had to cycle to training with Estudiantes, a round trip of around 20 kilometres, and made a number of sacrifices in order to realise his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

Amazing archived footage of the defender taking his first steps in the game as a child are combined with interviews conducted with some of the major figures in his life and career, including the man himself.

"It is difficult in Argentina to get out of my neighbourhood," said Rojo. "It is a poor neighbourhood. At the time, my dad didn't have a car or anything and training wasn't very close to our house. So we had to go by bicycle. We both went by bike for a long time. My dad used to sell things on the street and he would come back to pick me up. It was quite a long trip and I would get pretty warm!"

Marcos Rojo Snr, nicknamed 'Titi', was a former amateur player with El Cruce and helped push his son into the game at a young age.

"I could see his passion," said Rojo Snr. "I could see it in him and I could see myself in him because he would go after every ball. He was always different to the other boys of his age."

Estudiantes youth coach Gabriel San Millan recognised the schoolboy's potential and helped develop his talent at his first professional club.

"Technically, he was a good player," said San Millan. "He had good skills and a good base. But the thing that always stood out about him was that desire to always do better. His evolution as a player was incredible. When he was 18 or 19, he began to develop physically."

Following moves to Spartak Moscow and Sporting Lisbon, he really made his mark at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil as Argentina went all the way to the final before losing narrowly to Germany.

"The truth is that my life changed completely after the World Cup," he admitted. "Manchester United were on tour in the USA and they said that when they came back, they had me in mind but they still didn't know. I had to wait.

"When they said that to me, I couldn't believe it. I was celebrating, jumping around the house with my wife. It was incredible for Manchester United to be interested in me. For it to be so real, it was so exciting."

Manchester United star Marcos Rojo seen smoking and biting blonde woman's dress outside nightclub in Argentina

* Marcos Rojo has been on international duty with Argentina in the last week
* Video has emerged of Manchester United defender smoking on a night out
* The 26-year-old is also seen biting the dress of a woman outside the club

Marcos Rojo has risked the wrath of Louis van Gaal after the Manchester United defender was seen smoking outside a nightclub.

The 26-year-old full back has been on international duty with Argentina and video footage has emerged of him taking a drag on what appears to be a cigarette during a night out.

The clip, which captures the Argentine from across the other side of the road, is sure to rankle with Old Trafford manager Van Gaal ahead of the return of the Premier League.

During the clip, uploaded to the Farandula Show YouTube channel, Rojo, who missed a large chunk of this season with a shoulder injury, can be seen laughing and joking with a group of club-goers, including a number of women.

At one point the former Sporting Lisbon star is even seen biting the dress of a blonde woman standing beside him in a seemingly playful, flirtatious manner.

Van Gaal might not be the only person irked by Rojo's behaviour. He is married to lingerie model Eugenia Lusardo and the couple have a young daughter together.

In December 2014, Rojo had an affair with a woman he met at the Manchester United players' Christmas party, an encounter that led to a court battle.

The woman in question Sarah Watson received the threat of jail, a draconian gagging order and, she says, the outrageous and disturbing claim she was no more than a greedy blackmailer.

Speaking to the Mail On Sunday last April – after the injunction had been lifted – Watson said: 'People who look after Marcos claimed I had demanded £100,000 to keep quiet about our encounter. But it was a lie and they knew it. They tried to trap me.’

Rojo has now risked being thrust into the spotlight again following this week's smoking controversy and his United manager Van Gaal is certain to be unhappy with the unwanted attention.

United are facing a battle to secure a spot in next season's Champions League with the club currently sixth in the top flight.

United return to Premier League action against Everton at Old Trafford this Sunday as they look to build on the 1-0 victory in the Manchester derby before the international break.

Rojo started both games at left back as Argentina beat Chile and Bolivia to boost their chances of of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Manchester United have been approached for comment.

Marcos Rojo is Manchester United’s true worst signing under Louis van Gaal

http://s8.postimg.org/hvee0qawl/Van_Gaal_Worst_Signing.png (http://postimage.org/)

Back in the summer of 2014, Manchester United‘s needs seemed clear at the back following the departures of Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand: sign a new left-back, bring the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones on to become dependable stoppers and find a ball-playing replacement to control the game from the back. Preferably one with a left foot to sate the left-right symmetry Louis van Gaal ultimately desires across the various departments of his team.

By the start of the season, Luke Shaw had been procured at great expense to take on Evra’s mantle as a full-back capable of covering an entire flank all by himself. Eventually, Smalling answered the call to step up and become the leader, organiser and enforcer at the back. Then Marcos Rojo rocked up.

After helping to take Argentina to a World Cup final in 2014 as a marauding left-back, alongside his compatriot and fellow new arrival at Old Trafford Angel Di Maria, hopes were high that the defender could become the new Gabriel Heinze at United — a versatile and aggressive yet astute player capable of protecting his team in central and wide areas.

However, Rojo could be on his way this summer according to the Mirror after two disappointing years that have divided supporters between those taken in by his on-field angst, antagonistic style of play and loudness — generally looking the part — and those still waiting for him to show that he is anything more than a well-presented belligerent.

Despite his smaller transfer fee and the reduced degree of hype that surrounded his move to United, the Argentinian should be seen as the worst signing of Van Gaal’s reign; a more costly capture than Di Maria in terms of the importance of his position to the team if not the actual sums involved in the deals to bring them both to England.

It’s hard to understate just how poorly the brief was followed by those tasked to find the Dutchman a left-sided centre-back in 2014 capable of bringing the ball out, setting the tempo and building attacking moves from the back of his side. A defender with the profile of a player such as Mats Hummels should have been the goal. Instead, they found a lesser version of the most combative defenders that were already at the club, who have since overshadowed Rojo’s contributions and overtaken him as a player under Van Gaal whenever he has been fit.

Meanwhile, Daley Blind — signed as a utility man for the squad’s midfield and as a left-sided wing-back for when a back three was required — has become a mainstay alongside Smalling; not quite good or strong enough to be the player his manager needs him to be but the best stop-gap option available for now. While the Dutchman may lack pace and energy he has shown a steadiness and degree of composure seemingly beyond the more rash and unreliable Rojo, who has so often shown a lack of positional sense, timing and proportionality at the back for United.

He overcooks his challenges, charges out of line to leave his team’s defence out of shape and generally plays like another individual that must be accommodated for rather than a footballer who can provide that service to others, like Blind and Smalling, as part of a unit. When he is charged to guard the penalty area, the team’s foundations suddenly begin to look as if they were part built upon sand.

http://s8.postimg.org/xkpj0xsc5/Rojo_Smalling_Jones.png (http://postimage.org/)

Rojo, Smalling and Jones compared last season

For fans fed up of seeing what they perceive to be a lack of fight in their side, Rojo’s brand of aggressive machismo has at times been a welcome sight, but it’s all for show. Rather than hardening up his team’s defensive lines he has been something of a loose cannon, playing to the gallery rather than to the game plan, and that has left his side short. He’s lucky his impetuousness hasn’t cost United more than it already has.

Still, there have been highlights, at least in games where the rest of the defence has been set up to cope with or without his excesses. He did well against Manchester City back in October 2015 as United contained their rivals to record a 0-0 draw at home. Freed from the need to hold the line in what appeared to be a free-wheeling left-back role, the Argentinian raced about the field, man-marking Yaya Toure and keeping tabs on Sergio Aguero. It was the kind of chaotic performance only feasible when the rest of the team are ready and prepared to defend while one rogue element chases the ball and the man, and perhaps only viable in the unique, emotional setting of a derby match.

http://s8.postimg.org/taav5cn91/Rojo_tackles.png (http://postimage.org/)
Rojo’s tackles versus Manchester City. He was subbed off after 63 minutes

In the reverse fixture, as United beat City 1-0 at the Etihad in March, only Jesus Navas’ lack of end product prevented Rojo from gifting the visitors goals. He was constantly caught out of position, completed just 57% of his passes and only 17% of his tackles. Earlier in the season, in the 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion, the laboured 2-1 win away against Watford and even the 2-0 victory over the Baggies, he was similarly poor, even if United showed just enough about themselves to take six points from a possible nine as the Argentinian toiled at left-back.

His supporters may argue he is being played out of position when put out wide as a full-back, that he should play as a centre-back, but it’s the role which put him on the club’s radar at the World Cup, and the position from which he can do the least harm compared to his outings in the middle of defence.

Rojo is as much a victim of his club’s transfer strategy as any other ill-fitting signing brought to Old Trafford over the past three years. He is the defensive equivalent to Marouane Fellaini, another player brought in to solve a problem in the starting line-up, namely the lack of a player to hold and control midfield in the absence of Carrick, following the retirement of Paul Scholes and after years of under-investment in that area of the squad.

The Belgian only succeeded in making the team’s issues even more apparent. Rojo has suffered a similar fate. That both were signings made in the closing days of transfer windows by Ed Woodward helps to explain the failure of the recruitment procedures that saw these square pegs forced into round holes.

In a team that needs its defenders to be busy at all times, the Argentinian could thrive, but whether its due to Van Gaal’s philosophy or a desire to dictate games and take the initiative, United need more from their centre-backs and full-backs than a high workload. Rojo hasn’t shown that he has the attention span or the quality to be the kind of player required to fill the positions he was signed to play in a convincing manner.

He is too rash, too blunt, too easily distracted and too clumsy. In the context of the squad at present, all he has going for him is his left-footedness and Luke Shaw’s injury, and when he has come up against attackers determined to test his patience, he has looked like a player with two left feet and no sense of timing. Take away the transfer fees and it’s hard to think of a less successful first-team signing under Van Gaal than Marcos Rojo.

Marcos Rojo insists that while the emergence of Manchester United's exciting young stars this season may have come as a shock to many people, it has not been a surprise within the club.

Prolific striker Marcus Rashford has, of course, grabbed most of the headlines with his brilliant return of seven goals in 12 games at the tender of 18, but others including Tim Fosu-Mensah, Jesse Lingard, Guillermo Varela and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have also excelled when given their opportunity.

Their contributions have been vital in helping the Reds to reach this weekend's Emirates FA Cup semi-final at Wembley and to stay in the fight for a top-four finish, and Rojo has been impressed by what he's seen, particularly from Rashford and Fosu-Mensah.

The Argentina defender told MUTV: "It might have come as a surprise to everyone else, but certainly not us. It is not a surprise for us because they have been training with us for a while so we had seen what they could do.

"Tim has great maturity and copes really under pressure, while Marcus has been vital for us and has brought us some important goals that came in fantastic wins for us.

"They’ve been showing their qualities out there for the first team and in important matches."

Since returning from an injury lay-off in February, versatile Rojo has been a regular at left-back for United. He has helped the Reds earn the best clean sheets record in the league and has high praise for the solid central-defence partnership Chris Smalling and Daley Blind have formed this term.

"What’s really worked is that their respective styles have complemented one another," he explained. "You might say that Daley is not the most physical of central defenders, but he makes up for that with his ability to play the ball out of defence. Chris is a skilful player too, but he’s known for his strength and power. Those two things really strike a great balance.

"It is a good feeling [to have the clean sheets record] because we know that we are doing our main job well. Yes, in some cases we need to get forward and make chances, but we need to ensure that the opposition don’t score against us. So we’re happy that aspect is going well."

Marcos Rojo not surprised by emergence of young players at Manchester United

Marcos Rojo has insisted that he and his Manchester United teammates have not been surprised by the emergence of the club’s young players this season.

Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah have put in some scintillating performances for the first team recently while the likes of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Joe Riley and Guillermo Varela have also made the step up this term.

Rojo claimed that their qualities came as no surprise after he saw them up close in training.

“It might have come as a surprise to everyone else, but certainly not us. It is not a surprise for us because they have been training with us for a while so we had seen what they could do,” the Argentine said.

“Tim has great maturity and copes really under pressure, while Marcus has been vital for us and has brought us some important goals that came in fantastic wins for us. They’ve been showing their qualities out there for the first team and in important matches.”

United have a long history of promoting young players to the first team and it has been fantastic to see them carry on that tradition this season.

In what has been a season to forget for supporters, the performances of players such as Rashford and Fosu-Mensah have provided cause for optimism. Along with the likes of Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw, United have an exciting crop of young players coming through.

Manchester United defender Marcus Rojo being lined up for loan switch to Villarreal

* Villarreal want to bring in Marcos Rojo on loan to shore up their defence
* After losing Eric Bailly to the Reds, AC Milan are in for Mateo Musacchio
* The Yellow Submarines assessing whether they can afford Rojo's wages

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is wanted on loan by Spanish side Villarreal.

The Argentina international is one of the players Jose Mourinho may consider offers for following the arrival of Eric Bailly from Villarreal plus return to fitness of Luke Shaw.

Villarreal also face bids from AC Milan for defender Mateo Musacchio and have earmarked Rojo as an option if he can fit into their wage structure.

Rojo was signed by Mourinho's predecessor Louis van Gaal in August 2014 for £16million from Sporting Lisbon on a five-year deal but has struggled to tie down a place in the first team.

The Argentina international started just 15 Premier League games last term as United missed out on the Champions League.

It was a season disrupted by a shoulder injury picked up against Watford in December which saw Rojo miss almost three months, but did return to play in the season's closing months and started the FA Cup final win over Crystal Palace.

The 26-year-old moved to Europe with Spartak Moscow from Argentine club Estudiantes in 2011 before a £3.5m switch Sporting a year later.

Bailly Cedera, Saatnya Rojo Unjuk Gigi
Mohammad Resha Pratama - detikSport

Manchester - Cedera Eric Bailly memang merugikan untuk Manchester United. Tapi absennya Bailly seperti jadi berkah untuk Marcos Rojo.

MU harus kehilangan Bailly selama dua bulan lamanya usai si pemain mendapat cedera lutut saat kalah 0-4 dari Chelsea akhir pekan lalu. Padahal Bailly awalnya dikabarkan hanya menepi selama beberapa pekan.

Meylan Fredy Ismawan - detikSport

Manchester United’s Europa League campaign continues on Thursday in Istanbul, where Fenerbahce await at Sukru Saracoglu, with Marcos Rojo confident the Reds can overcome a hostile atmosphere.

Rojo feels the Istanbul outfit will be a different proposition on their home turf after losing 4-1 at Old Trafford last month, when he joked he felt like the only man not enjoying Robin van Persie's goal on his return to his former club.

Turkey has proved to be a difficult country for United to visit in European competition, with the Reds winning only three of seven games played there. One of those was a 2-0 victory over Thursday’s opponents in 1996, though Fener avenged that result eight years later by defeating an under-strength United side 3-0, with Tuncay netting a hat-trick.

Jose Mourinho’s men can open up a five-point gap to third-placed Fenerbahce with victory in Thursday’s Group A encounter, but defender Rojo is not underestimating the Turkish outfit, despite the convincing victory in the last meeting.

"It’s definitely an important match," Rojo told MUTV. "It’s very important for us to go to Turkey and get the three points to help secure our passage to the knockout rounds of the competition.

"We can’t forget that they have the home fans, who bring a lot of support to their team. It’s important that we prepare right, stay calm and hopefully come home with the victory."

Marcus Rashford has spoken of the intimidating atmosphere that United can expect in Istanbul and Rojo is also ready for it, having faced similar experiences while playing for Estudiantes in his native Argentina at the start of his career.

"All matches at this level attract a very vociferous support and the fans are always right behind their team," the 26-year-old continued.

"We know this about Fenerbahce too, but it is very much the same case in South America. We just have to ensure we stay focused on the job in hand."

Van Persie is expected to again lead the line for the hosts, having scored that consolation goal at Old Trafford last month that was applauded by almost everyone – except Rojo.

"It will be great to go against Robin again," the defender said. "That goal he scored at Old Trafford went down well with pretty much everybody – the United support were cheering him too. I think I was the only person who wasn’t celebrating!

"But Robin is a great player and, knowing him as we do, we know what his strengths are. We’ll go out there and try to keep a lid on him."

Marcos Rojo is looking forward to meeting up with his friend Federico Fernandez on Sunday but is determined to come out on top when Manchester United meet Swansea City.

The match at the Liberty Stadium is a crucial one for the Reds and Rojo, who played alongside Fernandez in defence at youth and senior level for Estudiantes, is hoping he will be the one smiling after 90 minutes.

"He’s someone that I have known a long time," Rojo told MUTV. "For 12 or 13 years we have been friends, we were champions together in Argentina. We’ve got quite a history together. It’s going to be a big match, but, once we get on the pitch, he’s the opposition. Outside of football though, we do have a good and lasting friendship."

Rojo is aware United have lost 2-1 on the last two visits to the Welsh club and appreciates there is nothing worse than heading into an international break on the back of a disappointing result.

"Going to the Liberty Stadium hasn’t gone too well for us in the last few seasons," the Argentinian added. "It’s a difficult place to go to. They are a strong team, but we need to go there with the intention of getting the three points. We need to keep getting the three points and victories to maintain our challenge to finish at the top of the league.

"Obviously, with the international break, you’re looking at quite a long period of time before you get to the next league match. It can happen where you lose tempo, or perhaps the rhythm isn’t quite there. So, before the international break, you of course always want to go out there with a solid victory before you go to join up with the international team."

Marcos Rojo admits Manchester United’s recent dropped Premier League points at home are a blow but is confident the team will soon get back into contention at the top of the table.

Heading into Sunday’s clash with West Ham United, the Reds are in sixth place, nine points behind leaders Chelsea, after being held by Stoke City, Burnley and Arsenal at Old Trafford in recent weeks.

And while Rojo shares the general feeling that United are playing well, as evidenced in Thursday's Europa League victory over Feyenoord, he accepts the team need to build on that and put a winning run together.

“We’ve deserved to win our last few games at home because we were the better team, but we didn’t come away with the wins, which was disappointing,” the Argentina international told MUTV before the Feyenoord clash.

“It’s an important game [against West Ham] to keep ourselves in the hunt. Winning would put us in a good position heading towards the Christmas period, where games come thick and fast – things can change a lot during that time.

“It’s a very competitive league that changes constantly. We’re a bit of a distance away from the top but the team is in good shape and we’re playing well.”

Rojo could retain his place in defence alongside fit-again Phil Jones this weekend, with the Englishman having played in each of the Reds' last three games in all competitions.

“It’s good and I’m really happy for Phil after the injury he had,” Rojo added. “He was out for quite a while. To have him back and playing well makes me and the rest of the team very happy.”

Marcos Rojo is braced for a difficult rematch against West Ham United tonight but believes a strong team spirit will help Manchester United come through the EFL Cup quarter-final tie.

Having played the whole of Sunday's 1-1 Premier League draw, Rojo is poised to line up in the Reds' defence again when the Hammers return to Old Trafford, this time in a knockout scenario.

The Argentinian senses a real determination in the United camp to win this competition for the first time since 2010, and feels the players' togetherness can help them achieve that goal.

Speaking to United Review before Sunday’s league encounter, Rojo said: "We’re always together and, after training, we have fun just like any other team.

"It’s very important that we’re united off the pitch and pulling in the same direction, as this helps when a game comes around.

"When you have that, you’re united on the pitch without even realising it and everyone works hard for each other and the manager too."

United were left frustrated for the fourth consecutive home league game at the weekend, having dominated proceedings after Zlatan Ibrahimovic cancelled out Diafra Sakho’s early opener.

But though West Ham were indebted to goalkeeper Darren Randolph for limiting the Reds to one goal, they continued to cause problems on the break and at set-pieces themselves, with former Reds striker Ashley Fletcher only denied a late winner by a smart David De Gea save.

Rojo has now faced the East London side five times in his United career, more than any other opposition team, so he is well placed to comment on their threat.

"They are a team that don’t give you anything for free," the 26-year-old continued. "They battle, they’re a physically strong side and they’re aggressive, and they know how they want to play. I’ve never had an easy game against them.

"But this competition is a chance for us to win the first silverware of the season, so we will give our all. It will be a difficult match but hopefully we’ll go through."

Jose Mourinho leaps to defence of Manchester United star Marcos Rojo after Argentine avoids another red card against Crystal Palace

* Manchester United managed to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Wednesday night
* Marcos Rojo scythed down forward Wilfried Zaha during the encounter
* Alan Pardew believes the defender should have seen red for his tackle

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho jumped to the defence of fiery Marcos Rojo, insisting the Argentine is a ‘clean player’ after he avoided a red card for a two-footed tackle for the second time in 10 days.

United were lucky not to be down to 10 men in the first half when Rojo went in on Wilfried Zaha but referee Craig Pawson showed only a yellow card.

‘It did look bad,’ said Palace boss Alan Pardew. ‘He jumps two-footed and we go to these meetings (with officials) where (we’re told) that is a red card.’

Rojo was only shown a yellow card by referee Craig Pawson for his tackle on Zaha. Jose Mourinho leapt to his defence after the match and said he was a 'clean player'

Rojo also escaped after lunging at Idrissa Gueye in United’s 1-1 draw at Everton.

Mourinho, however, defended his man and pointed to bad tackles on United players this season.

‘He’s playing phenomenal,’ said the United boss. ‘He is clean, aggressive, Argentine, emotional, very clean. I didn’t comment (about) David Luiz on Marouane Fellaini or Danny Rose on Henrikh Mkhitaryan. I won’t comment on this.’

But Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer was adamant, saying: ‘It should have been a red card for Marcos Rojo. You cannot tackle like that. It would have changed the game completely.’

Mourinho paid tribute to 35-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose 88th-minute strike ensured United won consecutive league games for the first time since August.

It was the Swede’s 14th goal of the season in all competitions. Mourinho said: ‘I knew the character of Ibra. At his age, he is a character, personality and has the passion to play. I told him England is not the best place for a holiday for a rich guy.

Manchester United should have been reduced to 10 men when Marcos Rojo committed a two-footed challenge which only failed to make contact with Wilfried Zaha due to the Palace man’s athleticism in jumping over his studs.

Then United’s first goal should not have been allowed. Paul Pogba was offside from Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s knock-on. To rub salt in the wound, the Swede knocked the ball forward with his arm.

Referee Craig Pawson and his assistants then seemed to try to ‘level things up’. United were denied a clear penalty when Joe Ledley knocked a cross away with his arm. They then had a goal disallowed for offside but neither Rojo, who headed the ball, or Juan Mata, who put it in, were offside. A very disappointing evening for the officials.

'You come for the most difficult league and to prove yourself. His decision was based on that.’

United defender Eric Bailly went off with a knee injury, having only returned to action last week after damaging a knee in October.

Mourinho said: ‘We don’t know (how serious it is). But it is not the same knee.’

Marcos Rojo is targeting more silverware with Manchester United in 2017 as the Reds aim to end the year with a flourish.

The Argentinian lifted the FA Cup last summer following the extra-time win over Crystal Palace at Wembley and, with Jose Mourinho's men facing ties in three different competitions in the first couple of months of the new year, hopes are high for more glory.

After forcing his way into the side and performing superbly at centre-back, the robust defender is convinced more success is on the horizon.

"I think it's been an interesting year for me," he told MUTV. "Various things happened. I had the FA Cup win at United and then went on to the Copa America. Unfortunately, we [Argentina] weren't able to win that but it was still an important moment for me.

"Now, at this time of the season, at the end of the year, we need to finish strongly and win as many games as possible. Looking towards 2017, we must play as well as we can and, hopefully, why not win a trophy at some point."

Sunderland provide the opposition at Boxing Day and Rojo is relishing the occasion at a packed and festive Old Trafford.

"Obviously, it would be lovely to have a little rest and spend some time with my family but I understand the tradition during this time," he added. "The atmosphere is particularly special in the stadium so it's something I enjoy.

"We have to play as we usually do and be concentrated to not give them anything for free."

Marcos Rojo feels that Manchester United supporters are vehement enough to make opposition teams "appear to shrink a little".

The Argentinian defender talks passionately about the United fans with some first-hand experience - he sat among the travelling faithful during last season's win at Liverpool and this term's draw at Stoke City when Wayne Rooney broke the club's goalscoring record.

Rojo insists the fans' backing has a real effect on the pitch and provides inspiration for the players. He told MUTV: "When the team needs to go all out for the win in the last few minutes of a game, or we need to grab a late goal, it’s great for us to feel that support and you can sense that the opponents feel it too.

"When the fans really get going and are passionately driving us forward and cheering at full blast, you get the feeling that as we put the pressure on, the other team just appear to shrink a little in the face of all this. And you can tell that’s happening when you’re out there playing.

"I had the chance to be in the crowd at Liverpool and at Stoke and I really got to feel for myself just what the United supporters live through every week. It was really great to be in there and hear the passion they put into every song they sing and how they chant the players’ names.

"I had the opportunity to be right in among the fans at the ground to experience and see things for myself from a different angle, if you like, and it was a really cool experience."

Ander Herrera praises injured Manchester United team-mate Marcos Rojo for having 'a lot of balls'

* Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has suffered a serious knee injury
* Argentine centre back Rojo was carried off on a stretcher in Anderlecht tie
* He will play no further part in the campaign following knee ligament injury
* Ander Herrera, who posed for pic with Rojo, says team-mate has 'a lot of balls'

Marcos Rojo hasn't let his season-ending injury affect his mood as the Manchester United defender posed for an upbeat picture with team-mate Ander Herrera.

The Argentine will play no further part in the current campaign after suffering 'significant knee ligament damage' in the Europa League tie with Anderlecht.

But despite the devastating setback suffered last Thursday, Rojo appears in good spirits as Herrera paid him a visit.

Donning a white t-shirt, shorts and a red cap, the 27-year-old Argentina international rested his injured leg on his couch.

The picture was uploaded on Instagram by Herrera, who has been in impressive form for Jose Mourinho's men this term.

He wrote: 'Te vas a recuperar pronto amigo, tienes muchos huevos #crazyhorse (http://www.unitedindonesia.org/forum/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=crazyhorse) ' which translates in English to 'You'll get better soon my friend, you have a lot of balls'.

Rojo has established himself as a first-choice centre back under Mourinho - who also saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffer a similar injury during last week's match - and it is a huge blow that both have now been ruled out for the season.

The injury to Rojo now leaves Mourinho short of options in the heart of his defence, with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling already on the sidelines.

Eric Bailly and Daley Blind are United's only fit senior centre backs heading into the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday.

'We are in trouble,' said Mourinho last week. 'In this moment, Eric Bailly played six matches in a row, and we lost Marcos Rojo. We don't have Jones or Smalling.

'We are in trouble and now we lose Zlatan too. But in attack, we have options and (Wayne) Rooney is coming, and let's see if (Juan) Mata can also return before the end of the season.'

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo hits the weights as he looks to speed up recovery from knee injury

* Marcos Rojo was seen on Ander Herrera's Instagram story lifting in the gym
* The defender is still recovering from knee ligament damage he suffered last April
* Rojo was welcomed back to training last week but is still someway off starting

Jose Mourinho will be pleased to see Marcos Rojo pushing for a return to his Manchester United squad by putting in the hours in the gym.

The Argentinian defender was welcomed back to training last week but didn't seem to overexert himself as he looks to recover from the knee ligament damage he sustained against Anderlecht in the Europa League last April.

The 27-year-old was seen slaving away in the gym in efforts to race back to fitness on Ander Herrera's Instagram story.

https://s26.postimg.org/8tar615op/43_B1_A8_C700000578-4835052-_Marcos_Rojo_grits_his_t.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
Marcos Rojo grits his teeth as he prepares to lift his first rep on the bench press in the gym. The defender extends his arms and lifts the weight with ease as Ander Herrera films him. Rojo manages to fire out three sharp reps before his Spanish team mate stops filming

The defender will be eager to re-establish himself back in Mourinho's first team plans having found regular action last season with 21 league appearances.

But it may be some time before he can work his way back into contention.

United have made a promising start to the Premier League campaign without him so far and Eric Bailly has stood out as a key performer from their opening three games.

Bailly's sudden transformation from a jittery liability to a composed solid defender certainly won't help Rojo's case, but he is proving to Mourinho he is willing to push through the pain barrier in order to force his way back to fitness, which can only strengthen his argument.

The United manager has previously claimed Rojo would have 'no chance' of coming back before December, but it appears that deadline might need revising.

With the international break approaching it would be sensible for the Argentinian to try and recover as much ground as possible by paying another visit to the gym.

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo set to play for the reserves as he continues his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury

* Manchester United's Marcos Rojo has been sidelined with injury since April
* Rojo will return from injury in a reserve team friendly on Wednesday
* The Argentina defender is hoping to play 45 minutes for the reserves

Marcos Rojo will return from injury in a reserve team friendly on Wednesday and could be back in action for Jose Mourinho's side in the final Champions League group tie against CSKA Moscow next month.

Rojo has been sidelined since April when he ruptured the cruciate ligament in his left knee in the Europa League win over Anderlecht.

The Argentina defender is hoping to play 45 minutes for the reserves as he steps up his rehabilitation, and has set his sights on the CSKA game on December 5 for his first-team return. If all goes well, Rojo cold be available for the Manchester derby at Old Trafford five days later.

He said: 'Tomorrow I am going to play a match with the reserves in a friendly match.

'I feel good. Up until now I have not had any problems but training is not the same as a match so I will play 45 minutes tomorrow for the reserves.

'In three weeks we have a Champions League game that and if all goes well tomorrow I could play in that.'

Looking further ahead, Rojo hopes to win a place in Argentina's squad for the World Cup after Jorge Sampaoli's side qualified for the finals in Russia against the odds.

He added: 'have to win my place back in the team so that Sampaoli considers me for the World Cup.

'I have been out a while but I am determined to get back into the national team. I want to show Sampaoli how good I am.'

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo spoke to United Review the week before Christmas, to reflect on his return to fitness, festive food choices and his hopes for 2018...

How does it feel to be back playing after such a long injury lay-off?
I am really happy to be back playing again regularly. It was a long time out so I’m extra happy to be back. All you want to do is to be working hard to so you can be in the squad, in the team to help your team-mates to compete. It’s really tough when you are out for a long time, so it’s great to be back.

Are you improving with each game and getting closer to your level before the injury?
In terms of physical fitness I’m getting there and that’s what you aim for. When you have been out for a long time it’s difficult to be competing 100 per cent at this level because it’s such a demanding level and a demanding style of football and league, but with each game I am noticing that physically I’m getting better. And the most important thing is I am finishing games well, I am feeling good at the end of matches. The actual match fitness takes a little bit longer but again, game by game, I am improving on that level and physically things are going really well.

This is your fourth Christmas playing in English football - how tough a period is it for a player and what’s the best thing about it?
I suppose it’s a bit tough when you know you are going to be out at work when you want to be spending time with your family at home enjoying Christmas, but there is something extra special about playing matches at this time. As soon as you get on the field there is an extra buzz about the place and something extra in the atmosphere. You can tell that the fans are living the whole experience in a different way than just a middle of the season game. The atmosphere is great during the fixtures over the Christmas period and that’s what we all love.

Have you sampled Christmas dinner British style?! What would you go for in Argentina?
Yes I have tried Christmas dinner a few times here in the canteen and really enjoyed it. Our idea of a roast is slightly different in Argentina – it’s the summer this time of the year so you’re having Christmas in a summer atmosphere. We also have roast meat all year in Argentina so it’s a barbecue for Christmas and we tend to celebrate on the 24th in the evening more, that’s when we eat our main meal.

We’ve got Southampton at home and Everton away next – so not very much travelling involved. Is that a good thing?
It helps tremendously, above all for our recovery periods because travelling really tires you out, so I think the fact that we have got two at home and one pretty close by over that period means we can get some rest and hopefully go into those games feeling as fresh as possible.

How much are you looking forward to 2018 with trophies to play for with United and of course the World Cup with your country?
You are right, in the distance we have the World Cup in Russia and that is obviously very important to me as an individual trying to take part in that. But between now and then we have some massive games here with United and I think it’s really important we win our games between now and the end of the year and also that we start strongly in the new year. We want to make 2018 a successful year and hopefully we will be holding some trophies at the end of the season.

Marcos Rojo is feeling settled at Manchester United after recovering from a knee injury in order to reclaim a place in Jose Mourinho's plans.

The Argentina international joined the club from Lisbon outfit Sporting in 2014 and has made a real impact at centre-back after adjusting to life in the Premier League.

Although an unused substitute at Newcastle United last weekend, he started the previous fixture against Saturday's Emirates FA Cup opponents Huddersfield Town and produced an accomplished display.

In an exclusive interview with the latest edition of Inside United, the official club magazine, the 27-year-old made it clear why he has unfinished business with United and is determined to win the ultimate prize in English football.

When asked what his ambitions are over the course of the next five years, the defender replied: “I feel my thinking in the next few years must be to try to stay as long as I can and to be here at one of the biggest clubs you can be at. My family is really happy to be here and I am also very pleased to be here.

"The challenge in the next few years is to win the Premier League. I don’t want to leave England without winning the title.

“It’s great and I’m very happy here,” he continued. “At first, it’s true it was difficult but it always is difficult getting used to a new city. Now, I’ve found a love for the city. My daughters are very happy here.

”My eldest daughter is at school at the moment so, when I come in to train and work hard, I get home and knowing my wife and daughters are happy contributes to your general feeling.“

Rojo will hope to earn a recall to the starting line-up for the weekend encounter at the John Smith's Stadium as the Reds aim to bounce back from the disappointing result at Newcastle by clinching a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Manchester United is delighted to announce that Marcos Rojo has signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until June 2021, with the option to extend for a further year.

Rojo, 27, signed for United on 20 August 2014. During his time at the club, he has won an FA Cup, a League Cup, the UEFA Europa League and a Community Shield.

Marcos Rojo said: "Since I joined Manchester United, it has been everything I thought it would be and more. I am extremely happy to extend my stay at this great club. When I joined, my aim was to help the team win trophies and we have done that over the past couple of seasons. I am working hard to get back on the pitch. I would like to thank the fans for their support and the manager for the confidence and help he has given me both on and off the pitch."

Jose Mourinho added: "Marcos has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of seasons, and has always shown great professionalism. Although his injury has kept him sidelined over these past few weeks, Marcos is working hard to return to full fitness. He is always ready to put his body on the line for this club and I am delighted he has signed a new contract."

Marcos Rojo spoke exclusively to MUTV after signing a new deal with Manchester United and reflected on a memorable four years at the club and outlined his hopes for the future...

Congratulations Marcos, how happy are you to sign the new contract?
For sure I’m really happy to renew my contract. I’ve worked really hard this year to recover [from injury] and get fit so I can do my best for this club. So signing this new contract is a really happy moment for me and my whole family.

What is it about the club which makes you want to be here for a long time?
The size and stature of the club and just how massive it is. To play every weekend and just to wear the shirt is incredible. It’s hard to put it into words, it’s something unique for me. It was always a dream of mine since I was a kid, and I’ve been here for four years which has made me very happy.

How do you look back on your time here so far?
These four years have been among the best of my entire career. They’ve really shot by as well, it seems just like yesterday that I signed for United. A lot has happened in that time, we’ve won trophies and played finals and in big games. This stays with you all your life and career. For a player to play so many games like that with such a big club, it’s just the best feeling.

You’ve enjoyed some memorable moments in your United career, but if you had to pick a highlight, what would you choose?
I’d have to pick the FA Cup final [in 2016]. Playing in that game and lifting the trophy was special. It was a great experience. Then you have the frustration of missing out on the final of the Europa League [last season through injury]. It was a painful experience but one that you can learn from for the rest of your career. The injury came at a bad time because I’d been in good form that season.

You must also hope there are many more highlights to come...
I’m sure there will be. That’s the reason I’ve signed the new contract and that’s why I’m so keen to continue playing for this great club. I have huge confidence and belief in the people at this club and of course the fans who constantly offer their support. We are very grateful to them for that. I’m absolutely convinced that we will be blessed with many more trophies and great moments during the rest of my time here.

How keen are you to get back on the pitch as we head towards the end of the season?
We have a lot of big games coming up now. I cannot wait to get back to 100 per cent fitness so I can help the team out on the pitch. I’m absolutely dying to pull on the United shirt and play once again. I’m working really hard in my preparation to be able to do that really soon.

Then of course it’s the World Cup. What are your thoughts on Russia 2018?
Without a doubt coming back as soon as possible into the United side [is my aim] and doing well is very important [as well] so I can go into the World Cup having ended the season well. As soon as the season is over, my personal goal is to make the World Cup. It’s an incredible thing playing for your country. In the last World Cup we lost the final, rather unluckily. This time around I hope things work out even better for the team so all the Argentinian people can be celebrating victory along with the squad. Back home that’s very important to everyone.

Argentina have a great squad so it will take a very good team to beat you…
There are other strong squads and teams from other countries too. But we have a team full of players who are stars in their own sides both here in Europe and at home in Argentina. We really believe in the players we have and in our style of play, so confidence is high. However, we know that it won’t be easy. There are some great national teams with top players, it’s a World Cup after all where you only get the very best players taking part. It will be tough but we believe in ourselves, we’ve got the best player in the world [Lionel Messi] and we all have a massive heart when we pull on the Argentina shirt.

On the occasion of his 28th birthday, we examine the determination and endeavour that have carried Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo throughout his life to date…

“Where there is suffering, there is the chance for growth,” says Argentinian football journalist Gabriel Lopez. “I think Marcos Rojo was born in the perfect conditions to be successful. When you are born into a house where a football is more important than any toy, in a neighbourhood which is all fields, where there is no chance of having a computer… that is where this footballer is made.”

United’s no.5 has come a long way, both figuratively and geographically, from the modest La Plata home where his infant years were invariably spent on the adjoining playing field. A defender in keeping with the established Argentinian prototype – tough, canny, bullish – he has made his mark with no-nonsense defending, forceful tackling and unwavering commitment: attributes which had been evident very early on in his career.

The son of an outstanding semi-pro player – Marcos Snr – a young Rojo would spend his days immersed in football. Aged just four, he entered into his first involvement in organised sport, signing up for Las Malvinas, and he swiftly made an impression. “He was different from the others,” says coach Mario Barbarino.

“At the age of four or five he understood what I was saying to him, he understood what it meant to get up and play on the pitch at the age of five. Training with the older kids, and the older kids hit you or play hard, and you pick that up and you never forget it. Running into kids who are two or three years older. At that age, that makes a difference.”

Suitably toughened by his experiences, Marcos rose to the rank of captain and, playing in midfield, scored twice in a junior league match against Estudiantes. At the age of 10, he was invited for a trial with the Primera Division club, a watershed moment in his development.

“Malvinas is a club, but more a neighbourhood club,” admits Rojo. “It is poorer, it is more about being with friends, but at Estudiantes everything was more professional, more like real football. I learned a lot there. Estudiantes was a great school.”

During his time in the club’s youth setup, Marcos also became an educational tool for his coaches. “He is an example to me as a coach,” says Alejandro Russo. “I work with young players and I can say that a boy who used to come to training on his bike when he was 12 - he used to travel 10km here and 10km back - he trained and he made his dream come true. He was a boy who came to training very happy, perhaps lacking some of the right gear, clothing, football boots, but he was always smiling and because of that his team-mates loved him.”

That was, perhaps at times, in spite of Rojo’s wholehearted commitment to training. “When he was going to challenge a forward, he would win,” says Claudio Vivas, another of his coaches. “He won because of his frame of mind; that was very important. Temperament was very important for him. As a very young boy, a winner, he wanted to win. When he went on the field he wanted to win.”

Over time, that mentality carried him to the attention of first team manager, Roberto Nestor Sensini. The 60-cap Argentina international, who spent 17 years thriving in Serie A, was impressed by an 18-year-old Rojo’s display in a training match between Estudiantes’ first team and youth team, and duly promoted him to the senior squad.

Marcos’ assimilation was made easier by immediate acceptance from his new colleagues. Aware of his background, his team-mates presented him with new boots so that he could train properly. “Straightaway, because of his charisma, he was adopted by the professional players,” recounts coach Alejandro Russo.

It just so happened that Rojo had worked his way into Estudiantes’ finest squad for almost 40 years. Since winning three successive Copa Libertadores in 1968, 1969 and 1970 – the first prompting the infamously fierce Intercontinental Cup victory over United - Los Pincharratas had won only three major honours. Managed by Alejandro Sabella and inspired by enduring midfield genius Juan Sebastian Veron, Estudiantes won the Primera Division and the Copa in Marcos’s first senior season.

“I was 19. That was incredible, indescribable,” beams Rojo. “They are memories I will have for my whole life. The day I made my debut was a very happy one because I had worked a lot, it was hard work. It is difficult in Argentina to get out of my neighbourhood. It is a poor neighbourhood.

“It is hard to get ahead. Jobs are often not very good and you have to work hard. I always liked football and I gave up everything for my dream and to see it become a reality on the day I first went onto the pitch was unique, and seeing my family there, sharing it with me, my mother and father so happy, they always used to come with me. Those are things that stay with you forever.”

More fleeting was his stay in Argentina. Within two years of ruling the continent, Rojo moved to Europe. A patchy season with Spartak Moscow preceded two years at Sporting Lisbon, but while his domestic form steadily improved, it was his dramatic rise to international prominence which precipitated a move to Old Trafford. Selected for Argentina’s 2014 World Cup squad by Sabela – now national team manager – Marcos was one of the outstanding defenders at the tournament.

“We knew him. We knew he wouldn’t let us down,” says Julian Camino, Argentina’s assistant coach. ”If Sabela handed him the shirt, he would do well. We didn’t debate it at any point. Whether he is going to play in a World Cup final or he is going to play the last-place team, he is going to play the same way: with that desire, that fortitude that he has, that always pushes him forward. With his teeth gritted, he will work until his last drop of sweat.”

United’s attention had been pricked. It was during the Reds’ pre-season tour of America that Rojo became aware of a potential move to Old Trafford. “I couldn’t believe it,” smiles the defender. “I was celebrating, jumping around the house with my girlfriend. It was incredible, for Manchester United to be interested in me, for it to be so real, it was so exciting.”

Though he was 24 when he arrived at Old Trafford, Marcos was already familiar with United, due to the influence of two of the Reds’ previous South American imports. “When I was a boy all I did was watch football and I would watch the Premier League,” he says. “I would watch Manchester United because Veron played for them and because of Diego Forlan. I always paid attention to Manchester United. They are one of the greatest teams there has ever been, so I watched every game.”

Now in his fourth season in Manchester and having made a substantial impact on proceedings, winning four trophies and registering over 100 appearances, the ceaseless grit and moxie engrained in Marcos Rojo has ensured that he has made his mark as a Red.

Marcos Rojo is a man of few words in the media, partly due to his preference to speak in Spanish over English, which is fair considering he is not quite fluent in the language of his adopted country.

Yet the Argentina international, who turns 28 today (20 March), is definitely worth listening to and his recent Q&A, to mark the signing of a new contract at Manchester United, is a must-read for fans.

"These four years have been amongst the best of my entire career. They’ve really shot by as well, it seems just like yesterday that I signed for United."

"I’d have to pick the FA Cup final in 2016 as my highlight. Playing in that game and lifting the trophy was special. It was a great experience."

"I’m absolutely convinced that we will be blessed with many more trophies and great moments during the rest of my time here at United."

"I cannot wait to get back to 100 per cent fitness so I can help the team out on the pitch. I’m absolutely dying to pull on the United shirt and play once again."

"It will be tough to win the World Cup but we believe in ourselves. We’ve got the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, and we all have a massive heart when we pull on the Argentina shirt."

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo admits he wants "payback" for Argentina's World Cup final agony four years ago.

The 26-year-old went all the way with his country in Brazil, only to lose 1-0 to Germany in the 2014 final, with Mario Gotze scoring the only goal of a tight game in extra-time.

As the only Red representing Jorge Sampaoli's team following Sergio Romero's withdrawal due to a knee injury, the centre-back has pledged that he and his fellow countrymen will give everything to go one better this time around and repeat the nation's successes in 1978 and 1986.

"Obviously, it’s a really important thing and a big deal for any Argentinian to wear that shirt," he told Inside United. "We really feel the shirt a lot and we defend our colours.

"We give everything when we are wearing it and we want payback for the way things happened at the last World Cup. We will do everything to give our fans the possibility to celebrate winning the trophy again."

Argentina have a final warm-up fixture against Israel on Saturday before the action gets under way in Russia. The Albiceleste are in Group D and will fancy their chances in the tournament, despite struggling to actually clinch a spot, before Lionel Messi bagged a hat-trick against Ecuador in the final South American qualifier.

"It's Nigeria again!" Rojo added. "I think it’s three or four times now we’ve been drawn with Nigeria and it will be a difficult group. Croatia and Iceland are in there too. Hopefully, Lionel Messi will be in form and can do something for us."

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has revealed two clear aims for 2019, following a frustrating start to the season both on a personal and collective level.

The Argentina international enjoyed a positive summer after playing at the World Cup in Russia and scoring a crucial winning goal against Nigeria – which he describes as his highlight of 2018.

However, an injury then prevented him from appearing for the Reds until the recent Premier League fixture against Arsenal on 5 December and, by that time, he had missed 20 club matches.

In an exclusive interview that will appear in Sunday’s edition of United Review, the official matchday programme at Old Trafford, Rojo remains positive and looks forward to the New Year with optimism.

Asked to outline his ambitions for 2019, Marcos says: “On a personal level, I want to get back to my best level of fitness, to compete at the highest level once again so I can play in as many matches as possible. For the team, to turn around this current situation we are in, which isn’t too great.

“I hope next year we can be a little bit more consistent and that things go better for us. I hope that as a squad we can perform at our highest level and get as far as we can in every trophy we play for.”

Going into greater detail on his recent injury frustrations, Rojo admits it has been a difficult period in his career but states his strong mentality has seen him come through the other side.

“The worst thing about it is that it is the second year running I have not been able to have a full pre-season with my team-mates. I’ve not been fit enough to start playing at the beginning of the season and immediately that puts you on the back foot, at a disadvantage to the rest of the squad.

“You don’t get the chance to start the season and get a full pre-season in order to be totally fit, which is important. That’s unfortunate for me but I didn’t have any choice in the matter. These kind of things can happen in football. That’s the game of football. It can happen to anyone and this time it happened to be me.

“It’s all about being strong mentally. I am strong mentally and it is now about turning it around and starting again. I’m always going to fight hard to earn my place in the side.”

Speaking of strength, Rojo has become popular among supports for his robust style of defending and the teak-tough Argentinian admits he enjoys a physical challenge when the situation calls for one.

“It’s what I am like,” Marcos tells United Review. “That’s the way I play my football. That is me on the field. If you see me off the field, I’m the most laid back guy – laughing, joking all day and having fun but, as soon as I cross that white line and go on to the field, I don’t know what happens! I’m a different person. Something happens inside me and I change. If the ball is there to be won, I go for it and give it everything I’ve got. Individual battles, individual duels, I am always up for them.”

Sepertinya sih bakal dilepas musim panas nanti...

Rojo Latihan dengan Mantan Klub di Tengah Ketidakpastian Masa Depannya di MU
Putra Rusdi Kurniawan - detikSport

Kontrak Rojo masih tersisa sampai 2021.

Marcos Rojo believes Manchester United's elimination of Paris Saint-Germain in the previous round of the Champions League will have garnered renewed respect across Europe.

Few fancied the Reds to overturn a two-goal deficit from the first leg, after a 2-0 defeat to the French side at home, only for a superb 3-1 victory in Paris to clinch an away-goals success.

Rojo appreciates Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will be underdogs again going into the two-legged tie with Spanish leaders Barcelona, one of the favourites to lift the trophy on 1 June, but he has stressed that the Old Trafford crowd can help make it a famous night under the floodlights.

“Look what happened with Paris Saint-Germain,” Rojo told MUTV. “We went over there, apparently without any chance whatsoever, people were saying it was a given that PSG were going through and then everyone saw what then happened.

”You should never write anyone off out of hand. Of course, Barcelona have huge experience of playing in lots of finals and semi-finals in the Champions League for a good few years now. But we have our own strengths too, and we have to know how to make best use of them. Of course, they will be favourites to go through but we are going to give everything we've possibly got to ensure that we go through.

“For me, after Paris, everything changed, I reckon that all the teams in Europe are now starting to look at us differently and to show us a little bit more respect because this is a great club with so much history and I reckon that in these games that counts for a lot. And I don’t think there’s any team out there who really wants to come to Old Trafford to play United. In fact I’m sure of that, so we have a lot of things in our favour, like being at home in front of our own fans to give us the chance to take a lead over there.”

Rojo believes the crowd can roar United on this Wednesday night and reacted positively when news of the last-eight draw in Nyon filtered through.

“I was very happy about it,” he added. “I remember that we were altogether watching the draw, and so when a team like Barça comes out of the hat, it’s a great feeling to be coming up against them. Because you can always look at key moments like this, as maybe in recent Champions League campaigns, we’ve not managed to get this far. But here we are now, having got through this far once again, and facing Barcelona, I believe United are beginning to be the team they were of old.

”Now it‘s down to us to try and keep going in the tournament. It’s going to be an incredible game, I can tell you, Old Trafford is going to explode [with noise]! And I hope that things go well for us on the night.“

The Argentina international is feeling fully fit again after a training stint with his former club Estudiantes and, following a first-team cameo in the home win against Watford recently, a run-out for the Under-23s in their Old Trafford clash with West Brom on Friday night.

“I’ve been back training now for three months,” he said. “But I’ve not had the chance to play very much. I got to come on for 20 minutes against Watford so I think it was a smart decision from the manager to ask me to turn out for the Under 23s.

”I think it was a clever decision and I turned up and worked hard. I was actually picked to play at left-back so I got to run a fair bit! And so, yes, it came at the right time and was beneficial to be getting some playing time and being out there on a football pitch is key.

“Also, it was fantastic to go back to Estudiantes. I started at that club, aged 10, so just imagine what it was like for me to then go back and train with them; lots of memories of great times there.

”So it’s thanks to the boss Ole who gave me the opportunity to go to Argentina, just in the middle of the FIFA International break.

“He understood where I was coming from, and gave the go-ahead, but obviously I wanted to do everything I could to be fit and ready when I came back. So I spoke with Seba Veron who is the club president and Ole and people at the club here got in touch with him and, fortunately, I could go and train for a few days at Estudiantes’ headquarters.”

Marcos Rojo left fuming with Manchester United after deadline day move to Everton collapses

* Marcos Rojo had hoped to join Everton from Manchester United on deadline day
* United changed the parameters on Thursday morning and the deal fell through
* The Argentina star has made only 18 appearances in the past two seasons

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo was left fuming after his proposed move to Everton fell through.

The Argentina star has made only 18 appearances in the past two seasons and had been persuaded to leave Old Trafford.

A loan was put in place but United changed the parameters on Thursday morning and the deal collapsed - leaving Everton without the vital addition of a new centre-back.

Man United's Marcos Rojo was left fuming after his proposed move to Everton fell through. The Argentina star has made only 18 appearances for United in the past two seasons

They had earlier offloaded defender Matty Pennington to Hull on loan and let Mo Besic join Sheffield United for the season, too.

The Toffees did beat the deadline to complete a dramatic late swoop to sign Alex Iwobi from Arsenal for £35million.

Everton failed with a £30m offer for attacking midfielder Iwobi on Wednesday and by 2pm on Thursday appeared to have accepted defeat in their bid to land the 23-year-old.

But having met with frustration in their attempts to sign Wilfried Zaha, they revived their bid for the Nigeria international and concluded a deal with Arsenal at around 4.30pm, giving Iwobi the green light to complete his whirlwind switch.

Manchester United 'ready to PAY Marcos Rojo to leave the club as they get ready for discussions to end his £130,000-a-week deal two years early'

* Man United defender Marcos Rojo is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford
* He has two years left on the £130,000-a-week contract he signed last year
* United have been unable to find a buyer willing to meet their £20m asking price

Manchester United are reportedly ready to pay defender Marcos Rojo in order to get him to leave the club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not see the player as part of his plans following the £85million signing of defender Harry Maguire.

The arrival of the Englishman means the Red Devils now have seven centre-backs in their first team squad, leaving Rojo surplus to requirements.

Manchester United are ready to pay Argentine defender Marcos Rojo to leave Old Trafford. United have been unable to find a buyer willing to meet their £20m asking price

However, the Argentine still has two years left on the £130,000-a-week contract that he signed in March 2018.

United have been unable to find a buyer willing to meet their £20m asking price, a transfer to Everton collapsing on deadline day.

And according to The Mirror they are now looking to strike an agreement with Rojo this week which will see them pay a significant chunk of the £13.5m left on his deal.

Rojo is hoping for a move to Italy or Spain with teams from both countries interested in taking him on loan.

United would prefer a permanent exit and are hoping that Turkish giants Fenerbahce follow up their interest with a bid.

Usir Rojo, MU Rela Bayar Rp 233,1 M
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detikSport

Manchester - Manchester United tidak menghendaki jasa bek Argentina Marcos Rojo lagi. Kabarnya, MU bahkan siap membayar Rojo agar angkat kaki dari Old Trafford.

Marcos Rojo's deadline day move to Everton 'BLOCKED at last minute by Joel and Avram Glazer' as they see Marco Silva's side as top-six rivals

* Joel and Avram Glazer reportedly blocked Marcos Rojo's move to Everton
* They see Marco Silva's side as challengers to their place in the top four
* United still want to sell Rojo, who is way down the pecking order at Old Trafford

Marcos Rojo's deadline-day loan deal to join Everton collapsed because Joel and Avram Glazer blocked the deal at the last moment, according to The Times.

The executive co-chairmen of Manchester United reportedly 'vetoed the transfer because they saw Everton as a rival club who will be competing with United for a place in the top four this season'.

The defender has fallen out of favour at Manchester United and the record-breaking signing of Harry Maguire hasn't done anything to help his case.

Marcos Rojo was left furious after his move to Everton was blocked at the last moment. Manchester United co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer reportedly see Everton as rivals. The defender has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. United are still hopeful of a deal for Rojo, who still has two years remaining on his contract

The loan deal with Everton would have included an obligation to buy him at the end of the season, but fell through at the last moment.

It left Rojo furious, but he could still be on the way out of the club, with United still wanting to sell the central defender.

Maguire and Victor Lindelof are now seen to be the first choice duo in defence, with Axel Tuanzebe as back up. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are also options, although it remains to be seen how long they'll each be at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Eric Bailly is still out with a long-term injury.

No one has met United's £20million asking price yet, but there has been interest from the likes of Fenerbahce, Napoli, Monaco, and AC Milan.

It even emerged that United would be willing to pay off a significant chunk of the £13.5million left on his current deal, which still has two years remaining at £130,000 a week, according to reports.

He signed the new contract in March 2018, but was told by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he was no longer part of the first-team plans shortly after his arrival.

Rojo has been plagued by injuries in recent years, which may be a factor in trying to find a new club.

The Argentinian has only played on 18 occasions during the last two seasons, including just six appearances in 2018-19.

'He just anticipates where the ball is going to be instead of staying with his man': Ryan Giggs critical of Marcos Rojo's defending for Liverpool's late equaliser in Manchester United draw

* Ryan Giggs has slammed Marcos Rojo's role in Liverpool's equaliser on Sunday
* The Manchester United defender appeared to lose Adam Lallana in the build-up
* Liverpool's substitute scored at the far post to rescue a point for the leaders
* United legend Giggs believes Rojo should have done more to stop the effort

Ryan Giggs has slammed Marcos Rojo's role in Liverpool's late equaliser at Old Trafford on Sunday, and believes the Manchester United defender could have done more to prevent Adam Lallana from scoring.

The current table toppers extended their unbeaten start to the season with a point against their arch-rivals, but were made to wait until the 85th minute to break down the hosts' stubborn defence.

United legend Giggs rued Rojo's poor defending in the build-up to the goal, and criticised the 29-year-old's positioning inside the penalty area.

https://i.postimg.cc/7hL55M2t/19985996-7596123-Ryan-Giggs-slammed-Marcos-Rojo-for-his-role-in.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
Ryan Giggs slammed Marcos Rojo for his role in allowing Liverpool to equalise at Old Trafford. United legend Giggs criticised the 29-year-old's positioning for Adam Lallana's late leveller

The Wales manager told Optus Sport: '[Aaron] Wan-Bissaka has not played a lot of games, maybe if he was a little bit fitter and sharper he would have got out quicker.

'But for Rojo to actually go past [Harry] Maguire is strange. If he holds his position maybe he can clear it. Ash [Young] never really gets goal-side.

'But if you watch Rojo he just anticipates where the ball is going to be instead of staying with his man.'

The Argentine international had originally been named among Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's substitutes for the clash, but was drafted into the starting line-up after youngster Axel Tuanzebe suffered a hip problem in the warm up.

As part of a five-man defence, Rojo played a crucial role in frustrating the reigning European champions - but United were pegged back late on when ex-Southampton star Lallana tapped home at the far post.

Giggs later admitted that Liverpool had threatened to net a leveller in the latter stages of the game.

He added: 'I think it's a poor goal to give away. But Liverpool, for that five and 10 minutes, were knocking at the door and there you see Robertson crossing the ball a lot further up the pitch.

'Where for the majority of the game, him and Trent Alexander-Arnold were crossing the ball from 40, 45 yards out.'

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring at Old Trafford in controversial circumstances, when the hosts countered after an apparent foul on Divock Origi to round off a lightning counter by taking the lead.

'It gave us much more drive': Marcos Rojo admits Manchester United players have grown in confidence after Liverpool draw

* Marcos Rojo says Manchester United have used Liverpool draw as a springboard
* He says the result reinforced the players' belief that they can be successful
* The Argentine says attacking players are more willing to 'express themselves'
* Rojo is determined to feature more regularly over the remainder of the season

Marcos Rojo believes ending Liverpool's perfect start to the Premier League season will prove the catalyst for a successful campaign at Manchester United.

Liverpool had won all of their eight league matches before the October 20 trip to Manchester United, but the Reds could only grab a point thanks to Adam Lallana's late goal that cancelled out Marcus Rashford's first-half opener.

Rojo was handed a start against Liverpool and the creditable result led to consecutive away victories against Partizan and Norwich.

Marcos Rojo believes Manchester United's draw with Liverpool will propel the club to success

'After the Liverpool game, I think the team grew in confidence,' Rojo told the club's official website.

'It gave us much more drive and when we went on to get a good result away from home, I think it strengthened our belief and allowed the players to express themselves that bit more, meaning we went back to attacking in the way we usually do.'

Meanwhile, the centre-back has set his sights on retaining his place in United's starting XI and lifting silverware with the club this season.

'Personally, my objectives would be to play as many games as possible, to continue to be on top of my game, and to show the manager that he can rely on me,' he said.

'And, from a team perspective, it would be to win the Europa League, to finish as high up the table as we can in the Premier League and to qualify for the Champions League and improve our situation so that next season is much better.'

The 29-year-old has made just six club appearances so far this campaign.

The Red Devils return to top flight action when they travel to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Marcos Rojo 'to have January exit BLOCKED' by Manchester United with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reluctant to weaken his defensive options

* Marcos Rojo looked set to leave Manchester United permanently in the summer
* A move to Everton failed to occur and he has since worked his way back to form
* Reports say United are ready to block any approaches for Rojo in January

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to step in and block a January exit for Argentine defender Marcos Rojo, according to reports.

Rojo had fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United and looked set to leave in the summer with Everton in a £25million move.

But while that deal collapsed, the Sun report that United will not entertain any bids for the player in January as Solskjaer wants to avoid weakening his defensive options mid-season.

https://i.postimg.cc/htd1BgGr/20585672-7648121-image-m-57-1572883777487.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
Marcos Rojo will not be allowed to leave Manchester United in January, according to reports. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is refusing to sanction his exit so he does not limit his defensive options. Rojo has made seven appearances so far this season and played in the recent win at Chelsea

Solskjaer had seven centre back options at his disposal in Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Rojo.

The Argentine looked a certainty to be let go but with Bailly a long-term absentee through injury and Smalling out on a season-long loan with AS Roma, Rojo has been handed opportunities to impress.

He has two years remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford which is believed to be in the region of £140,000 a week.

Rojo has made seven appearances this season - two in the Premier League - and any mid-season departure risks leaving United exposed as they have been in attack since Romelu Lukaku left.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo and explained why he was so keen to retain the tough-tackling Argentina international.

Rojo made his eighth appearance of the season on Thursday evening and helped keep a clean sheet as the Reds beat Partizan Belgrade 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Following the high-profile capture of Maguire from Leicester City, the return of Axel Tuanzebe from loan and the signing of Victor Lindelof's new long-term contract, it was rumoured in the summer that centre-back Rojo could be leaving United.

Yet Marcos remained at Old Trafford and has impressed Solskjaer with his professionalism, hard work and accomplished performances for the team.

“I thought he was excellent tonight,” said Ole in his post-match press conference. “He’s been excellent since he started in pre-season. He’s played more than he, maybe, expected. That’s why he’s still here and he’s a top-quality footballer.

“He’s a winner, with a good mentality, he can pass and he can defend. It’s now about keeping him fit and he’s been fit for a long time. You can see his qualities.”

While the 29-year-old is best known for his aggressive style of defending, he finished Thursday's match with a pass-completion rate of 91 per cent and displayed an admirable amount of composure.

Solskjaer was delighted by the South American's performance in defence. “He’s got such a big heart and such a passion for football,” said Ole.

“He’s a winner. To have him around when he’s fit and in a good mood, it’s been great for us.

“The boys love him and he sometimes spreads fear in training because he tackles properly. He’s one of the ones who really cares about the game.”

Rojo hopes to make his ninth appearance of the campaign on Sunday when United host Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

That prospect could appears quite likely with Lindelof and Tuanzebe currently nursing injuries, with Maguire also a slight doubt after picking up a knock against Partizan. Furthermore, left-back Ashley Young is suspended.

Eric Bailly is still out with his long-term injury, although the Ivory Coast international is getting closer to a comeback and is expected to start training again in the next month.

Manchester United has reached an agreement with Estudiantes for the loan of Marcos Rojo, pending international clearance.

The 29-year-old defender began his professional career with the Argentinian club in 2008 and he will now finish the 2019/20 season in La Plata, linking up with their head coach Gabriel Milito.

Rojo joined United from Sporting Clube de Portugal during the summer of 2014 and, since then, he has made 122 appearances for the club, scored two goals and won four trophies.

In his loan spell at Estudiantes, Marcos will be reunited with a former team-mate of club and country, Juan Sebastian Veron, the former United player who is currently the club’s chairman.

Everybody wishes our no.16 good luck for the rest of the campaign.

Argentinian top-flight side Estudiantes have announced the return of former youth graduate Marcos Rojo on a short-term loan deal from Manchester United.

Rojo has not featured for United since November, and has now sealed a move away to get some game-time before the end of the season.

Announcing the move with an emotional video featuring clips of him playing for the club, Estudiantes wrote: 'You always return to the places where you were happy. Because of the sense of belonging, it's stronger.

Manchester United have agreed to allow defender Marcos Rojo to join Estudiantes on loan. He's been convinced by Estudiantes chairman and ex-Red Devil Juan Sebastian Veron

'Your dream and that of the Pincha family come true. We meet again. Welcome and thanks for coming back, Marcos. We welcome you with the heart.'

Former Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron is the current chairman of Estudiantes, and the move will give Rojo the chance to claim his place in the Argentina squad for the upcoming Copa America.

Rojo is liked by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his combative style but a series of injuries forced him down the pecking order at United.

Solskjaer did pour cold water on a potential January move for Rojo on Tuesday, but a deal has now come to fruition.

Rojo also saw a temporary move to Everton fall through on deadline day in August after United demanded a £4m loan fee.

The defneder progressed through the youth system at Estudiantes, making 43 appearances for the club between 2008 and 2011, before joining Spartak Moscow.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Marcos Rojo can return from his loan spell with Estudiantes as a fitter and better player.

Rojo rejoined the club where he started his career on Thursday, after 122 United appearances in five-and-a-half seasons in M16.

The versatile defender was signed from Sporting Lisbon by Louis van Gaal in 2014, but has struggled with injuries of late, and Solskjaer believes the move could reignite the South American’s career.

“Marcos is a lovely lad, he's got the fire in his belly, he's a winner and he wasn't getting enough football here,” admitted the Norwegian, speaking in his Friday press conference ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“It was important for him to start playing. He wants to come back a fitter and better player, hopefully having played well for Estudiantes and helped Seba [Veron] and his club, and gone to the Copa America. So that was something we just had to do.”

The manager was keen to praise Rojo’s thirst for United and football, in general, noting that the 29-year-old spent some of his last few hours in Europe at the Etihad Stadium, cheering the Reds on along with the rest of the away end in Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Manchester City.

“He was in the away end against City, he was there at Liverpool,” enthused Ole. “He's such a passionate guy and he wants to support this team.”

Rojo will stay with Estudiantes – where he won both the Copa Libertadores and the Argentinian Primera title, also playing in the World Club Championship final against Barcelona – until the end of the season, and will link up with former United cult hero Juan Sebastian Veron, who is currently the club’s chairman, and much-capped international Javier Mascherano.

The left-footer started just three games last term, but is keen to regain form and fitness ahead of this summer’s Copa America, which takes place in Colombia and Argentina. La Albiceleste have not won the competition since 1993.

The 29-year-old told El Intransigente: 'Many things came together. I need to play, return to my level, the family insisted, my old woman told me to come back.

'I had many offers to go to other clubs, but what's better than being at home. I hope to be on the pitch as soon as possible.

'I want to go to practice and be with the boys as soon as possible. I'm very happy. It's something I dreamed of, there was a chance and it could be done. I talked to Sebastian (Veron) quite a lot but one day my head clicked and I decided to return. It all came together.'

The defender was restricted to just 17 league appearances for United since the summer of 2017. Rojo only made one Premier League start this season for the Red Devils this season

Rojo joined Manchester United in 2014 for £16million and featured 122 times in all competitions for the Red Devils.

Despite winning the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Community Shield and the 2017 Europa League title during his time at Old Trafford, opportunities to play were few and far between in recent years.

Injuries and competition with the likes of Ashley Young and Luke Shaw restricted Rojo to just 17 Premier League appearances for United in the last two-and-a-half years.

The 29-year-old said that a lack of playing time, as well as his mother, was another big reason why he decided to return home to Argentina.

He added: 'I suffered a lot of injuries lately, I went to the bench a lot. And I needed to compete and what better than to do it at home.

'Argentine football grew a lot and this is going to be a beautiful challenge. I talked with almost everyone and they helped me at this time. I don't know what to say to the fans, it's incredible.'

"Saya tahu, Ibrahimovic ingin kami semua memberinya bola. Lalu, dia meneriaki saya," paparnya.

"Saya balas 'Ada apa hidung besar! Diam saja'," lanjut Rojo bercerita.

Melansir The Sun, Rojo rupanya melanggar aturan isolasi diri tersebut.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained why Marcos Rojo is unlikely to feature for Manchester United again this season.

The Argentina international returned to his homeland in January to sign for Estudiantes on loan, joining the likes of Dean Henderson (Sheffield United), Joel Pereira (Hearts), Alexis Sanchez (Inter Milan) and Chris Smalling (Roma) in spending time away from the club on a temporary basis.

Things have obviously not gone to plan for the defender as the coronavirus crisis has taken a grip across the globe, and the repercussions caused by the pandemic mean he is remaining in South America for the time being.

Although Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams picked up knocks against Southampton, ensuring they must be assessed before the trip to Crystal Palace, and centre-backs Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are sidelined, there appears little prospect of Rojo returning to the first-team squad.

“Marcos has been in lockdown over there [in La Plata], so they've not played either,” explained Ole.

“At the moment, I can't see him coming back here over the summer, obviously because we live in this bubble, and we've got this squad available until next season.

“So he just needs to focus on getting fit and staying fit and being ready for wherever that takes him.“

Rojo joined the club in 2014 from Sporting Lisbon and made nine appearances in the first team in 2019/20, prior to his loan move.

The 30-year-old's last outing for the Reds came in the 3-1 home victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in November.
