Dwight Yorke, the forward who won a Champions League winners medal with Manchester United in 1999 after enjoying a successful career with Aston Villa, has announced his retirement from professional soccer.

Yorke, who also captained Trinidad and Tobago at the 2006 World Cup, joined Aston Villa in 1989, before moving to Old Trafford in 1998 for more than $20 million. He won three successive league titles with the Red Devils, scoring 64 goals in 151 appearances for the club, before moving to Blackburn Rovers in 2002 and Birmingham City in 2004.

A short spell in Australia with Sydney FC was followed by a return to England with Sunderland in 2006, where he played mainly as a holding midfielder.

"I hope people will say that I played the game in the right way with a smile on my face," Yorke told BBC Sport. "While I'm still in great shape, I'm not getting any younger and I've had the time of my life.

"I've been blessed really. I've played alongside some of the greatest players the Premier League has ever seen in Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Peter Schmeichel, and played for the greatest manager in Sir Alex Ferguson.

"I'll always count myself lucky. I was a boy on a beach from a little Caribbean island that got the chance to fulfill his dream of winning trophies at the highest level and captaining his country in their first ever World Cup finals."

Yorke recently accepted a position as assistant manager of Trinidad and Tobago for the rest of the World Cup qualifying campaign, and he reportedly would like to utilize his vast experience by managing in England one day.

Gantung Sepatu, Yorke Ingin Latih Inggris

Selama empat tahun di Old Trafford, Yorke mengukir kenangan manis. (TLG)

Dwight Yorke: I would have never swapped Manchester United for Manchester City like Carlos Tevez

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/10/16/article-1220799-0047894E00000258-391_306x357.jpg

Dwight Yorke insists there is no way he would have taken the plunge like Carlos Tevez and left Manchester United for cash-rich Manchester City.

Tevez caused a huge stir in the north-west this summer when he rejected Sir Alex Ferguson's belated attempts to keep the Argentina star and instead joined the Abu Dhabi-backed Eastlands revolution.
Carlos Tevez

Although Tevez has made himself an instant hero with the Blues faithful, the United fans who used to adore his all-action style have turned against him and produced an intensely negative reaction during the recent derby encounter at Old Trafford.

Yorke accepts the new-look City is a very different outfit from the one which faced him during his own time at United. However, he would never have abandoned the chase for honours by making the same move.
Dwight Yorke

'Things have changed,' said Yorke. 'But I know when I was at the peak of my career there is no way I would have left the best team in the world.

'Manchester City are a big club. Yes, they have a lot of money now and you can see they are making an impact.

'But really there is no comparison. You want your name to be associated with a global giant. Manchester United is that club. There is nowhere else like it. And it is still that way.

'Everywhere I go, people acknowledge the fact I played for Manchester United. It affords you a privilege you would not get anywhere else.'

Although Yorke was only at United for a short time in a 20-year career that also encompassed spells with Aston Villa, Blackburn, Birmingham, Sydney and finally Sunderland, it is Old Trafford the mind instantly switches to.

In his recently-released autobiography, Yorke chronicles that superlative Treble season, which for him started late because of a wrangle over his move from Aston Villa, which led to a threat he was going to be shot by then manager John Gregory.
Carlos Tevez

It was a transfer he never had cause to regret though, especially as it brought him into contact with Ryan Giggs, a player who is still going strong even as he approaches his 36th birthday.

There are legends. There are legends of legends. But Ryan is the ultimate legend,' reflected Yorke. 'He is the example for everyone to follow. I look back and think 'three Premier League titles'. That is fantastic.

'Ryan has 11. It puts everything into context. He is one of the all-time great players. And he has the desire to keep pushing himself the extra yard further than anyone else.'

United hero slams Anfield legend
-sport.co.uk-

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has launched a scathing attack on Liverpool hero Graeme Souness. Yorke worked with Souness while the former Anfield midfielder was manager at Blackburn Rovers, and the Trinidad and Tobago forward suggests the fiery Scot had terrible man-management skills extremely ill-suited to the modern Premier League player.

Yorke told the Independent: “I went from playing for the greatest manager (Sir Alex Ferguson) to maybe the very worst (Souness), in terms of handling players.”

“He would constantly talk about the times he'd had at Liverpool, the way they used to do things, and it just became boring.”

“I know he was a great player, and played with great players. But I played with great players too. I won trophies.”

“You can't keep going on about it to players who maybe haven't yet won anything themselves. It's disrespectful.”

United legend: If I played with United tomorrow I'd easily fit in
-sport.co.uk-

http://www.sport.co.uk/public/images_news/Old%20Trafford%202.jpg

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke believes he could still do a job for the Premier League champions because of the great players that would be around him. Yorke suggests he has maintained his fitness since his retirement, and sighting Ryan Giggs as an example, the former Aston Villa hero claims he too could play in Sir Alex Fergusons’s midfield.

Yorke told the Independent: “I'm as fit as I can be, and if I played with United tomorrow I'd easily fit in, because I'd have such good players around me.”

“Lesser teams have to do a lot more running, so with a lesser team I might get caught out. But United keep the ball, and make the right pass at the right time.”

“That's why Ryan Giggs is still doing so well. And he's kept up with all the changes.”

“I was there [at United's Carrington training ground] just a few days ago and there have been so many changes.”

“We also had a swimming pool but now they have a treadmill in the swimming pool. They have different kinds of massage. Yoga. These are the things Giggsy is doing.”

Man Utd legend Yorke ready to enter management
-tribalfootball-

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has put his hand up for management.

Yorke turned 38 last week, and announced his retirement as a player two months ago. He has done a Uefa 'B' licence coaching course, and aims to start studying for his 'A' licence in January.

"I'd like to start in the Championship," he told the Independent. "I've seen [Gareth] Southgate, who was my captain at Aston Villa, and Simon Grayson at Leeds, who I played with, getting the breaks. They haven't done more than I've done in the game. Rather less, maybe. Yet they got huge jobs. Chris Sutton at Lincoln, not such a big job but a nice break.

"So why not someone like myself or Andy Cole? Les Ferdinand's another one. I know these guys want to be managers. Why are they not getting the breaks? Why?"

Yorke launches his book Born to Score
-guardian.co.t-

http://guardian.co.tt/files/imagecache/article_main_image/articles/images/Dwight%20signs.png

…My life and 22 years as a pro footballer

T&T football star Dwight Yorke officially launched his autobiography Born to Score at a news conference at the National Library on Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain, on Thursday. The book chronicles Yorke’s life from growing up in a family of nine in rural Tobago, coming through the ranks of local football as a youngster; being drafted by Aston Villa at age 17; helping Manchester United win a Treble in 1999 and leading T&T to its first World Cup appearance in Germany in 2006.

He speaks candidly also of his much-discussed personal life beginning with his sexual contact with an older woman on a beach at age 12; fathering a son with the English glamour model Katie ‘Jordan’ Price and about a rocky relationship with Naomi Smith, mother of his second son. “It’s a real insight into my life and 22 years as a professional footballer,” he told the gathering. “There’s some of the good things, some of the bad things and some of the loneliness. “It’s been a real tough ride. I’ve learned to understand a little bit about life and the discipline, dedication and self belief that it takes. I could have easily been one of the many talented sportsmen that slipped by the wayside but I was always determined to make something of myself.”

Yorke says his lifestyle may have negatively affected his career and he touched on that aspect in his presentation. “The glamour side of mansions and cars can be great but the real reward is being recognised for what you have accomplished.” “I know my life has not always been a perfect scenario but we all make mistakes. I’ve learnt from them and moved on as an individual to become a better person.” He also writes that Russell Latapy is a better footballer than he and acknowledges that Brian Lara’s achievements outweigh his own. In the book review, Dr Barry Ishmael applauds the 38-year-old for writing an honest, intriguing and often inspiring account of his life and career.

“The very human side of a star is revealed and the reader is left to weigh the pros and cons of stardom and to ponder how greatness, wealth and popularity are to be best managed,” he said. “By the end there is little doubt that “Yorkie” is easy-going, fun-loving and bears no malice towards anyone. “At heart, this is a motivational story, not of perfect man, but of a man constantly striving for professional perfection. He is a flamboyant, talented and controversial individual and an elite athlete by any standard of any sport.” Yorke will be signing copies of his book at the following locations today: Trincity Mall, Trincity, 11 am-12 pm; West Mall, Westmoorings, 12.30 pm-1.15 pm; Long Circular Mall, St James, 1.30 pm-2.30 pm. Yorke would like to advise the public that he would be doing just one signing session today at Long Circular Mall from 10 am to 11 am.

Call me Ambassador Yorke
By KARL E CUPID Tobago Bureau Thursday, December 3 2009

RETIRED national captain and international football star Dwight Yorke is now an official tourism ambassador for his homeland Tobago. Yorke who gained star status by playing with mega English football club Manchester United, formally signed an agreement with the THA.

The ceremony was held at the THA Tourism Division offices at Sangster’s Hill in lower Scarborough yesterday. Signing on behalf of the THA was Tourism Division Administrator Ethel Hector Berkley-Sylvester. Yorke said he felt happy and honoured to be of service to the land of his birth and assured that he would give 100 percent effort in ensuring Tobago was marketed worldwide.

The former Manchester United striker also paid tribute to former Tourism Secretary, now senior consultant Neil Wilson, who was instrumental in getting his professional football career off the ground and who actually accompanied him to England as his “guardian” and agent when he signed with Aston Villa.

Yorke affirmed that Wilson has been a father figure to him through it all. Earlier, Wilson noted Tobago was quite fortunate to have someone of Yorke’s stature to promote the island and act as its “tourism face”.

Wilson recalled that Yorke was at one time rated on the same scale as prolific French striker Eric Cantona. Wilson observed that at international tourism-oriented events like the annual World Travel Market in London many countries utilise the services of their icons, and in this context Yorke’s appointment was most appropriate. Under the terms of the agreement, Yorke’s commitments include motivational sessions at schools throughout Tobago, as well as his attendance at events worldwide. The use of his image and name is also covered under the agreement.

Dwight Yorke wouldn’t be at all surprised to see United leading the way at the top of the Barclays Premier League table on Sunday night and in pole position to seal a record 19th title.

The former Reds and Sunderland striker, who has been training at Carrington for the last two days in preparation for his appearance at United Relief on Saturday, insists it’s “a myth” that Liverpool won’t be interested in securing a positive result against Chelsea even though it would give United’s title chances a serious boost.

Sir Alex’s men would still have a job to do at the Stadium of Light later that afternoon, but Yorke has a feeling it could turn out to be a positive weekend for his former team.

“It's a myth to think Liverpool are going to throw it in. Professionals don't just turn up and give up a game,” insisted the former Trinidad and Tobago international. “There is a lot riding on the game for Liverpool in terms of trying to clinch fourth spot and they will want to give themselves a fighting chance of getting that place.

“The mood is confident amongst the lads, but they know Sunderland can be a tricky place to go,” added Yorke, who was a Treble winner with the Reds in 1999. “Steve Bruce has done a fantastic job in getting Sunderland to mid-table – at one stage they couldn’t buy a win, but he’s turned that around and credit to him and his players for that.

“Over the years United have gone there and got good results and if they play to their capabilities on Sunday, which I’m sure they will, there will only be one winner out there.”

If things go United's way at Anfield with a draw or a win for Liverpool, the Reds know they must make sure they capitalise on the opportunity when they travel to Wearside.

"This is the time when the manager is very good because he’s been in this position so many times before," declared Yorke.

"He keeps things nice and calm around the dressing room so you don’t feel too tense when you go out onto the pitch.

"You want to relax and do what you’ve been doing all season and that’s exactly what the gaffer will be saying to the players before each game ‘just go out there and express yourselves.’"

Musim 2010/2011, Pasti Milik United Lagi
http://i.okezone.com/content/2010/07/11/45/351806/9znQ6ItDSO.jpg

“Musim lalu, United memang masih merindukan Ronaldo. Tapi, kini mereka memiliki Rooney sebagai ujung tombak dan dia adalah sosok tepat yang akan menginspirasikan kebangkitan United musim depan,” tandas strikerr yang kini merumput bersama klub Australia, Sydney FC ini.

Another story tentang yorke

Time to move
Best thing to ever happen to me

Dwight Yorke spoke to Goals on Sunday about his move from Aston Villa to Manchester United.

At the time it was a controversial move as Villa did not want him to go and manager John Gregory famously said he would have shot Yorke if he had a gun at the time.

"In terms of handling the situation well of course there were things I could have done better," admitted Yorke on Goals on Sunday.

"I just felt I has spent ten years at the club. I came for pittance and here I was getting a huge offer from the best club in the world.

"I felt as if I had done everything I could possibly have done at Villa and I had served my time. I was just starting to establish myself in the Premier league and scoring goals on a regular basis. Internationally things were not going well for me with Trinidad and Tobago and this was the next step up - playing Championship football.

"When Manchester United came calling, the opportunity was far too great for me to turn down. This was the club for me and I felt at home. Playing alongside fantastic players week in and week out it was really spectacular.

"Looking back, it was the right move and was the best thing that ever happened to me."

Yorke, known as the Smiling Assassin, admits that while he is an easy going guy and got on with everyone he did fall foul of Sir Alex Ferguson

"I certainly did feel his wrath on a few occasions," laughed Yorke.

"He has actually calmed down now - he is a fantastic manager and we all know that. It is not very nice when you get on the wrong side of him I can tell you that. But once you are doing the business he is a fantastic manager to play for."

Dwight Yorke on Javier Hernandez, Manchester United's goal machine

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1324353/Dwight-Yorke-Javier-Hernandez-Manchester-Uniteds-goal-machine.html#ixzz13cUY4mjF

At the moment you feel that every time Javier Hernandez pulls his Manchester United shirt on he is going to score. He is a goal machine.

I had the pleasure of seeing him play for Mexico in 2009 in my role with Trinidad and Tobago in the World Cup qualifiers and you could tell straight away that he was a player to watch out for.

Everyone was talking about how he was the best player of his generation to come out of Mexico.

It’s a cliche but he is one of those players who knows where the goal is - my first impression is that he is just like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in that he will get you a goal when you need one.

He has found his feet pretty quickly. His link-up play will develop in time, because that could be a little bit better, but he will be judged on his goals. Ole’s link-up play was a lot better than people gave him credit for but, like Hernandez, if there was one person you wanted a chance to fall to, it would be him.

Hernandez has that knack of scoring goals, of knowing where the ball is going to fall and he has shown twice in the past few days how cool he is when he gets a chance. The back-header for his first goal against Stoke and his dummy before finishing against Wolves on Wednesday night are the kind of things you cannot teach.

Sir Alex Ferguson will help him improve in other areas but he can’t coach that. He is similar to Michael Owen in some aspects but I think Hernandez has more ability and movement. His speed sets him apart too.

I was at United recently talking to Sir Alex about him and he told me that Hernandez was the fastest in the speed tests the club sets them. He has a real burst over 10 yards and his great work-rate and willingness are already being rewarded with goals.

The only word of warning I have is against labelling a ‘future United legend’ too early. He has only played a handful of matches so it is best not to get carried away. If he’s still playing like this in three or four years, then he will be a legend.

Fergie Blames Dwight Yorke For His Grey Hair
November 14, 2010 10 Comments

‘Here he is, the boy who’s given me all this grey hair!’ Sir Alex Ferguson says whenever he comes across Dwight Yorke.

“That’s what he says every time he sees me,” Yorke said.

“I had a fantastic four years at the club. Don’t forget, I’m a little island boy who’s come from the Caribbean not knowing football at all. If somebody said I was going to be playing for the greatest club in the world, in a Treble-winning year, knowing what I’d achieve in that time, I’d say ‘you’re fibbing me’. Great ride, great players, great manager, great experience. For the four years at Man United hopefully I contributed to the football, and that’s it. My time was up and I couldn’t do anything about that.”

Dwight Yorke pun Dukung Torres

[nic]

Dwight Yorke expects Alex Ferguson to continue at helm of Manchester United

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes Sir Alex Ferguson will remain the club's manager for "as long as he can carry on" after guiding the Red Devils to the brink of a record 19th league crown.

Yesterday's 2-1 win over rivals Chelsea left the Red Devils needing just one point from their remaining two games - against Blackburn and Blackpool - to ensure Barclays Premier League glory.

This title will have added significance because it will take United past Liverpool's mark of 18, which has stood since 1990, making the Old Trafford outfit England's most successful side.

Kagumi Ferguson, Yorke Berikan Pujian
Sebastianus Epifany - Okezone

(seb)

'Maradona will bring an aura'

Former Manchester United star says Al Wasl have pulled off a coup by signing the greatest footballer he has seen
By Jaydip Sengupta, Deputy Editor-Sports, XPRESS

Dubai: Former Manchester United striker and 1999 treble winner Dwight Yorke believes Diego Maradona's appointment as Al Wasl coach is an inspired move by the Dubai club. Speaking to XPRESS during his visit to Abu Dhabi in his capacity as AD Sports pundit, the former Trinidad and Tobago star said: "He will bring an aura and a presence that not many guys could bring and the interest a man like him generates can only be good for football in this part of the world."

Yorke however added: "Having said that, the jury is still out on his ability as a manager. You look at his record and it's not particularly great. That may change, but as it stands he's not proven himself as a manager yet."

Despite questions over Maradona's managerial qualities, Yorke says there's no doubt about the Argentine's greatness as a player.

"When you talk about the best players in the history of football, Maradona has got to be right up there. I'm such a massive fan of what the guy could do. I feel sorry for anyone who had to defend against him because you wouldn't know whether to back off or close him down, he was brilliant. To me, he was the best player I ever watched play.

"People watch [Lionel] Messi now and think he's bringing a new dimension to football, but he is only doing now what Maradona was doing 20 years ago. You watch some of the clips of him during his days at Napoli, he was doing great things."

And the man who averaged a goal in every two matches during his 95-match stint with Manchester United hit out at criticism of the current side despite it winning its 19th Premier League title.

"I think too many people aren't giving the team the credit they deserve. A lot of people have gone on about the fact that this team isn't great to watch, and they aren't as good as the team of 1999 etc etc… what's all that about? I don't understand where people are coming from.

"You can only beat the teams that are in front of you and they have done that day in, day out. It's not about being pretty, it's about winning. So I think the comments are unfair on the effort the team and the manager have made this year. It's a reflection on the other teams in the league if Manchester United can be a lesser side and still win the league title. More people should give the side the credit they deserve," he said.

Talking of the Red Devil's chances in the Champions League final, Yorke said: "One thing that is for sure is that Manchester United will do it their way. They're going to play the Manchester United way. They'll highlight the threats that Barcelona have and work out what needs to be done to minimise those threats.

"And then they'll work on making the most of their strengths. So don't tell me Barcelona can't be beaten. They can definitely be beaten."

Kalau tergabung di grup A : Amazing, B: Beautiful, hehehe ..

C is for comfortable
Yorke backs United to sail through group

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke says his old club will have nothing to fear in Champions League Group C.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men have been paired with Portuguese giants Benfica, Swiss champions Basel and Romanian outfit Otelul Galati, who are making their first appearance in the competition.

And even though he doesn't know a lot about the champions of the Romanian Liga I, Yorke reckons the Red Devils will have no problems reaching the last 16.

"I think Man United will be delighted with the draw," said the 1999 European Cup winner.

"I have to be honest with you, I have no idea who the Romanian team are! But Man United will be delighted with his group.

"They know Benfica inside out and we know what to expect of Basel. I think that quietly the guys will be confident about advancing to the next stage."

Obstacle

Fellow Sky Sports expert Alan Smith saw Benfica beat Arsenal 2-1 in July's Emirates Cup and says the Portuguese club could prove to be United's toughest obstacle.

But having avoided potential pairings with the likes of AC Milan, Ajax and Lyon he says Ferguson will not be daunted by the challenge.

Smith told Sky Sports News HD: "Sir Alex Ferguson knows better than us that you can't take any game in the Champions League easy, but if you look at the potential opponents they could have had then it's worked out great.

"I saw Benfica in pre-season against Arsenal and they beat the Gunners, so they are quite a lively outfit.

"It's a lovely stadium and pitch at the Stadium of Light and it's the same for Basel. Who knows what awaits with Galati, but United will be really confident."

Cakewalk

Former Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins agreed that last year's beaten finalists will feel comfortable after the draw.

And he says he couldn't have picked easier opponents for a team that has a 100 per cent record in the Premier League so far this season.

Wilkins said: "You couldn't really have hand-picked this group if you had really wanted to because that group for Manchester United, the way they've started the season, is pretty much a cakewalk.

"They will be quite comfortable with it."

Sebuah artikel mengenang karir Dwight Yorke di Australia :)

Yorkie a star on and off the field

THERE have been hefty claims this season about the biggest name to grace the A-League.

I have been fortunate to play with some highly regarded players, but there has been none bigger, in my opinion, than Dwight Yorke, my Sydney FC teammate in the opening season of the league.

He epitomises the marquee player. He was equally at home in the social pages as the sports pages. The crowds flocked to watch him play and the paparazzi hounded him in his private life.

Away from football, he enjoyed the lifestyle of a rock star - or a hip-hop star to be more precise.

Sydney FC received its Bling FC tag off the back of his blinding chains and flash watches.

But I assure you it was purely a media tagline. Underneath it, Pierre Littbarski, our German coach, put us through the most gruelling pre-season I've ever been a part of.

Yorkie was a footballer first, never putting himself above the rest of the team. He did most of the hard work on the training paddock with no more complaints than the rest of us.

He also produced come game time and was a big reason why we won the inaugural A-League championship.

Yorkie worked hard and he played just as hard. A night out on the town meant private booths at some of Sydney's elite nightspots with every whim catered for. Even in this setting he was a team player. The rest of the team were always welcome and, thankfully, he always picked up the bill.

There are many good memories of Yorkie's time here, but two instantly come to mind.

The first was when he was shown around Sydney Football Stadium, but then told the team was training at Park Lea in the north-western suburbs. His response was: "I ain't going to no Park Lane!"

The second was his first team recovery session at Bondi beach.

We completed a jog along the sand and then it was time to hit the water. I don't know if it was the water temperature, fear of sharks or the thought of having to remove his cap, but he wasn't getting in.

Instead he chatted to the locals and ended up collecting a few phone numbers.

Honourable mentions in the biggest A-League player debate must go to some of my other Sydney teammates.

Juninho, a World Cup winner with Brazil, needs little introduction; Japanese striker Kazuyoshi Miura (King Kazu) is arguably the biggest player to come out of Asia; and Italian striker Benito Carbone had a 20-year plus career, mainly in Italy and England.

All were great players and down-to-earth guys.

Ternyata Yorke juga pernah jadi korban rasisme ...

Handshake? I fought race hate player in tunnel
By NEIL CUSTIS

DWIGHT YORKE was in no mood to shake hands when he was racially abused on a football pitch.

It came when he played for Aston Villa in a Carling Cup second-round tie against Peterborough United — and Yorke was ready to shake the player's neck.

He said: "It takes a lot for me to get really upset in football.

"People know I always liked to play the game with a smile on my face.

"But the time I was racially abused on the pitch I lost it.

"We were hammering Peterborough at Villa Park and this person made a racist remark to me and I couldn't believe it.

"That just went over the line. At the final whistle I went after him and there was an almighty scrum in the tunnel afterwards that had to be broken up.

"It is bad enough when it comes from the crowd but when it comes from a fellow professional, it really hits you."

Yorke scored twice in a 6-0 win in that game in 1995 but being the subject of racial abuse from an opponent understandably swamped any joy he took from the occasion.

It is a moment he still recalls in an instant 16 years on.

It is little wonder Yorke has been left angry and bewildered by FIFA president Sepp Blatter's comments this week that players should just shake hands at full-time if there has been a racist remark during the game.

Manchester United Treble-winner Yorke has worked hard with plenty of other players and officials in football to kick racism out of the game.

He believes that Blatter has undermined all their hard work and should resign.

Yorke, 40, said: "I have done a lot of work to help not only drive racism out of football but out of the community as a whole.

"What Sepp Blatter has done in trivialising the subject is to throw all that work back in our faces.

"This man, who is at the very top of the game, has almost given players a free rein to say what they want on the pitch.

"So you are supposed to be discriminated against and then just shake hands with the person who's done it!

"Blatter will probably say now that he has been misunderstood but we have all seen the interview.

"He has made plenty of gaffes in the past and had second chances — but this is a step too far now. As players we are always told we need to set an example and rightly so. Yet this man is the figurehead of the world's governing body and what sort of an example is this?"

Blatter's comments have caused outrage throughout football and led to calls for his resignation.

As well as claiming players should just shake hands, he said the one offended should accept that "this is a game".

Blatter said: "There is no racism.

"Maybe one of the players has a word or a gesture which is not the correct one, but the one who is affected by that should say that 'This is a game'. We are in a game and, at the end of the game, we shake hands.

"This can happen because we have worked so hard against racism and discrimination." Yorke says the intensity of a football match can never excuse racist comments.

The Trinidad & Tobago legend said: "Everyone wants to win and try the very best they can to do that. I have played in the most intense football matches at the very top.

"But that does not mean that you should be allowed to use racial comments because of the intensity of the game. No, it's ridiculous to say that and wrong."

The issue of racism has hit the media recently with two high- profile cases.

England captain John Terry is being investigated for an alleged racist slur at Anton Ferdinand, while Liverpool's Luis Suarez has been charged over alleged comments made to United defender Patrice Evra.

These events and Blatter's comments are even more upsetting for Yorke given the giant strides that have been made in eradicating the problem among fans.

He said: "I don't think people appreciate now just how bad it was in the past. The worst I ever received was in a match for Villa in Bucharest. It was appalling the noises that were coming down from the terraces.

"In this country I would hear comments from the crowd but it was a minority and the situation has improved a lot. A lot of work has been done to ensure that, which is why these comments from Blatter are so wrong and have set us back.

"Race should not be an issue in any walk of life. In football I'd guess about 40 per cent of the players in this country are black. Every team has at least three, four or five black players.

"For them to be discriminated against by comments from an opponent cannot be tolerated.

"And for the leader of our game to try and brush the subject under the carpet cannot be either."

Wah Yorke kini punya bisnis lapangan golf !

Yorke opens golf club

LONDON: Former Mancheter United and Trinidad and Tobago striker Dwight Yorke has got together with his close friend and leading golf coach Derek Simpson to form an ambitious new golf club.

The dynamic duo are running the Yorke and Simpson Premier Club — a club where members can enjoy memorable executive golf days out at several West Midlands-based courses.

Not only can members revel in a great round of golf at some of the country’s best venues, but can get some expert coaching from Simpson on the day as well.

Simpson, who has turned partner Yorke from a golfing novice to a three handicapper in just a couple of years said “We can do whatever the golfers want to do, it’s a great all-round experience for them.”

Membership costs from £250 though Simpson points out: “The basic annual cost to join is £2,000 but varies depending on how much you want to play and improve your game.”
