Jose Mourinho plays down return to Chelsea with Manchester United: 'It isn't a big thing... in four years, people probably won't remember I was boss'

* Manchester United head to Chelsea on Sunday for Premier League clash
* Jose Mourinho suffered embarrassing 4-0 loss when teams met last year
* But the Old Trafford boss has played down his return to Stamford Bridge
* The Portuguese also hopes to see some of his injured players return soon

Jose Mourinho has insisted his return trips to Chelsea will soon become an irrelevance.

The Manchester United manager is back at Stamford Bridge this weekend and claimed their preparations would not be damaged by his appearance in a Madrid court on Friday.

Mourinho received a mixed reception by Chelsea supporters last year but doesn't think his presence will overshadow what could prove a pivotal afternoon for United.

'I have to admit it is a little bit different but in the end I want to win like I did with Inter,' Mourinho said.

'They want to win like they did last season and it is just one more day and in a couple of years it will be even more natural.

'In four or five years, people probably won't remember I was Chelsea manager.

'It's a big match but not because of that. It's because they are champions and we are United.

'It isn't a big thing. It is normal. It is football life. One day you are in one club, the next day you are in another club.

'It is a big thing because it is a big match and the opponent is the champion. It is one of these matches between the top teams in the country but by the emotional point of view it is just a game.'

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has played down his return to Chelsea on Sunday. He claimed preparations would not be damaged by his appearance in Madrid court on Friday

Mourinho — who hopes to soon have some of his injured stars back available — also suggested he isn't afforded the praise he deserves.

The Portuguese pointed towards Tottenham's free-scoring season and queried why United's clean sheet was overlooked last week.

'Similar performances for some clubs are magic, are examples of brilliant tactics and amazing attitude from the other players,' Mourinho added.

'For other teams the same kind of performances become conservative, become negative, become so many adjectives.

'As an example, Tottenham beat Liverpool 4-1, Tottenham beat Real 3-1, Tottenham didn't score against Man United so at least a little bit of credit my players deserve.'

After facing the Premier League holders, United host Newcastle before travelling to Switzerland to face Basle in the Champions League.

MATCH PREVIEW : CHELSEA V MANCHESTER UNITED

What’s the team news? The boss confirmed after the win over Benfica that Jesse Lingard came off with a back problem at half-time but said it was "nothing important". There is still no further news on the injured Marcos Rojo, Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini, but the boss will know more in the next couple of days on any potential availability. Meanwhile, the Blues are expected to be without Victor Moses, who has been sidelined since mid-October with a hamstring injury, but N’Golo Kante, who scored in both home encounters against United in the league and FA Cup last term, is being tipped to return, despite not having not played since sustaining a thigh injury on international duty with France last month.

Old ties… Mourinho won’t be the only familiar face at Stamford Bridge who arrives on the United team bus. Nemanja Matic made the move from Chelsea to United to join his former boss last summer and has since been a key figure for the Reds. The pulling power Mourinho has to his ex-players was also shown when Romelu Lukaku joined from Everton, having previously joined the Merseyside club from Chelsea. Finally, Juan Mata left the Blues while Mourinho was in charge of the west London club, but since their reunion at Old Trafford, the Spaniard has continued to be a crucial asset for the Reds.

What’s Mourinho’s record against Chelsea? The boss has had mixed results when coming up against his former club. While in charge of Inter Milan in 2010, he guided his team to victories in both legs of their Champions League tie against the Blues. Last season, the Blues ran out 4-0 winners in the league and knocked United out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge but the Reds came out on top in the most recent meeting between the sides, winning 2-0 back in April thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera.

How are Chelsea doing? The Blues will be desperate to bounce back in a positive manner after suffering the defeat at Roma in midweek in a Champions League game which, if they had won, would have secured their place in the last 16. Conte’s men have been solid in front of their own fans of late and were unbeaten at the Bridge last month, beating Everton 2-1 in the Carabao Cup in their last outing at home. However, Stamford Bridge has not been the fortress it was during their title-winning campaign last term, with the Blues having already lost to both Burnley and Manchester City. They have already conceded 10 goals in as many Premier League matches this term and endured a defensive nightmare on Tuesday. At this stage last season, they also sat in fourth place, with only one more win than they have currently achieved, but following a perfect November, the Blues claimed top spot and, from then on, never looked back.

What’s our record like against them? The history books show that United have won 76 of the 177 previous meetings in all competitions, stretching as far back as Christmas Day in 1905. Chelsea have registered 52 wins in that time and the two clubs have played out 49 draws. In the Premier League era, the Blues just edge it, with 17 wins to United’s 14 in the 50 occasions the two have met in the competition. United have found it notoriously difficult at Stamford Bridge in recent times and will be hoping to record a first win over the Blues in west London since 2012.

MOURINHO DISCUSSES PLANS FOR CHELSEA

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will wait before finalising his plans for Sunday's Premier League showdown at Chelsea.

The manager hinted the next couple of days will be important in deciding whether any of his injured players could make a return with Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Marcos Rojo those currently on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard was withdrawn during the Champions League victory over Benfica after appearing to take a painful blow to his back. The midfielder, who scored in the 1-1 draw at the Blues' home in 2016, will hope to shake the knock off.

"I have to wait a little bit," said the boss, when asked about six players being on the injury list. "Normally, the press conference is a bit later in the week, we still have Friday and Saturday [to come]. I'm not very optimistic, but I don't want to lie. I don't want you to say that I told a lie when I said there's no chance of recovering - so I prefer just to say two more days to confirm my expectation."

With an international break to follow after the trip to the capital, there will be a hope some of the injured players make strides behind the scenes in their bid to regain fitness.

Chelsea could be boosted by the return of influential midfielder N'Golo Kante, who has twice scored for the Blues in this fixture (once in the league and again in the FA Cup) since arriving from Leicester City. Antonio Conte's side suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Roma in the Champions League in midweek and look likely to still be without Victor Moses.

United have a poor recent record in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge but will be in a positive mood ahead of the key match against the champions, Mourinho's former club.

"It's a big thing because it's a big match and because it's a big opponent," said the manager. "They are the champions and because it's one of these matches between the top teams in the country. But, from the emotional point of view, it's just one more game."

JUAN MATA : CHELSEA GAME IS SPECIAL

Juan Mata regards Manchester United's crunch Premier League clash against Chelsea this weekend as "special" and "massive".

Reflecting on the last seven days, Mata told MUTV: “It was great. Obviously facing a great rival like Tottenham, it was a massive three points for us and then keeping our winning record in the Champions League which almost took us to qualification so we are happy and now we face another special game.”

Next up for the Reds is another London team in the title race, in the form of Antonio Conte's Chelsea, who have so far made a stuttering start to the defence of their trophy.

Mata will be returning to a stadium he knows well, having spent three years at Stamford Bridge before his transfer to Old Trafford in 2014. Although he acknowledged it will be a tough battle against the Blues, the Spaniard is confident the Reds can come away with a victory which would be hugely significant at the top of the table.

“It’s another massive game,” he said. “It’s always difficult to play at Stamford Bridge, against Chelsea, always a tough opponent but we will try to come back to Manchester with three points and we will try to keep a good run of results going in the Premier League after beating Tottenham. We have another challenge now on Sunday and hopefully we can get through it.”

Like Mata, Nemanja Matic will also be reunited with familiar faces in West London, as the Serbian midfielder prepares to face his former club for the first time since he left them to join United in the summer.

When asked if he had spoken to Matic about returning to their old club, Mata said: “No, I haven’t spoken to him, but I guess it will be special for him after being at Chelsea like myself and it’s always special going back for the first time. Obviously now he’s with us and he wants to have a good game and win and hopefully he can play well.”

Chelsea enter the game on the back of a chastening 3-0 defeat at Roma in the Champions League in midweek and Mata believes the Reds must be wary of a backlash from the Blues on Sunday.

He added: “I think they will come into the game with even more intensity and an even stronger will to win. If that defeat in Rome has any effect on them, I think it will make them even more willing to win so we need to be ready for that.”

Herrera agak lepas beberapa kali nih, Bakayoko sampe punya 3 peluang untungnya masih aman..
Dan Mkhi masih tetap aja ampas sampe half time, waktunya Martial masuk..

David Luiz malah disorot kamera. Mungkin ga masuk rencana Mou buat skema taktik malam ini.

Mikhi dijaga ketat Kante.
Fabregas yg harus dijaga ketat di tengah. Visinya ajib.

Hadeuh...kalah lagi,,skrg ketinggalan 8 poin dari City...makin susah bwd jadi juara EPL. Fella telat masuk,,wlwpun 2 kali nyaris bikin MU kebobolan,, tapi masuknya Fella berhasil buat MU keluar dari tekanan Chelsea khususnya 10 menit terakhir. Matic-Herrera ga berkutik lwn Kante-Cesc,,baru tertolong stlh Fella masuk ganti'in Jones. Stlh international break,,MU main 2x di Old Trafford vs Newcastle n Brighton,,sblm tandang ke Emirates n derby Manchester. Mdh2'an Pogba udah bs main lagi biar lini tengah MU jadi lbh baik lagi.

Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United PLAYER RATINGS: Alvaro Morata proved his worth as Romelu Lukaku failed to shine at Stamford Bridge

* Alvaro Morata (8) scored a world-class header to seal all three points for Chelsea
* Opposing striker Romelu Lukaku (4.5) had little influence on his return to London
* Andreas Christensen (8.5) impressed with a very calm performance at the back

Chelsea saw off Manchester United with a well-deserved 1-0 win which served as an early blow to United's Premier League title hopes.

Alvaro Morata's wonderful second half header was enough to take all three points in a game where Jose Mourinho set his side up to frustrate their hosts.

Sportsmail's Kieran Gill rates the performances from Stamford Bridge.

MANCHESTER UNITED (3-4-1-2)

DAVID DE GEA – 7

Kept busy. Denied Hazard three times overall but had no chance with Morata’s header. His defence let him down for the goal.

ERIC BAILLY – 5

Tasked with man-marking Hazard but no-one was near Morata for his free header to give Chelsea the lead. Bailly was closest. Criminal defending.

PHIL JONES – 5.5

Got away with sticking the ball in the back of his own net as a debatable free-kick was given. Poor positioning at times.

CHRIS SMALLING – 5

Gareth Southgate said he cannot pass it out from the back. Not given much chance to prove him wrong here. Was distracted by the run of Bakayoko in the goal, leaving Morata free behind.

ANTONIO VALENCIA – 5

Limited input in this game. Not given as many opportunities to drive forward as he would have liked.

ANDER HERRERA – 5.5

Got the nod ahead of Fellaini. Knows how to get under an opponents’ skin. Spent a lot of time on the ground.

NEMANJA MATIC – 5.5

Given a large cheer by Chelsea’s supporters when name was read out. United are seriously missing Pogba in midfield in truth.

https://s1.postimg.org/14nhbzmshr/460_B68_F200000578-0-image-a-14_1509902075225.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
Nemanja Matic rarely ventured forward as he sat in front of United's back-line

ASHLEY YOUNG – 5

Performances this season have won him a place in the latest England squad. Didn’t show it here.

HENRIKH MKHITARYAN – 4.5

The so-called midfield magician performed a disappearing act. He has struggled lately and put in a lacklustre performance here. Lost possession in build-up to the opener.

ROMELU LUKAKU – 4.5

Back against his old club. Quiet, with a first-half shot from distance as dangerous as he got.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 6

Had a chance with a header which landed on the roof of the net and created some chances for himself. Often surrounded by Chelsea markers.

https://s1.postimg.org/4dml8n72dr/460_B74_DA00000578-0-image-a-16_1509902078618.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
Marcus Rashford cut a frustrated figure for much of the game with very little influence

Subs: Martial 6 (for Jones, 62), Fellaini 5.5 (for Mkhitaryan, 62), Lingard (for Young, 78)

Booked: Jones, Herrera, Fellaini

MANAGER: Jose Mourinho – 5

More attacking than they were at Anfield but tactics didn’t work. Chelsea particularly won the midfield battle.

REFEREE: Anthony Taylor – 5

Controversial calls. None more so than chalking off a Chelsea goal for a push on Jones. Struggled to keep control at times.
