Manchester United announce plans to tour Australia during pre-season with Jose Mourinho's side to take on Leeds for the first time since 2011 in Perth

* Manchester United will go to Australia as part of next summer's pre-season tour
* They will face Championship outfit Leeds United in Perth as part of the jaunt
* It is the first time the rivals from either side of the Pennines have met since 2011
* It is believed United will also go to Hong Kong and Japan as part of their plans

Manchester United have announced that a spell in Australia forms part of next summer's lucrative pre-season tour.

They will face Leeds United in Perth as part of the jaunt.

It is the first time the rivals from either side of the Pennines have met since 2011, when they played in a League Cup clash.

Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds will meet United on July 17.

It is believed United will also take in Hong Kong and Japan during their preparations for next season.

United would likely command seven-figure sums to play in each of the countries they opt for.

America has been the club's preferred destination in recent years, with Jose Mourinho comfortable at the familiar UCLA base in California.

Manchester United will head to Australia as part of their pre-season tour and will take on Leeds. It is the first time the rivals from either side of the Pennines have met since 2011 at Elland Road

United have been to the States in four of the last five campaigns. Their last trip away from there, China during Mourinho's first term, was fraught with difficulties.

United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said: 'Our pre-season tour is an integral part of the squad's preparation for the forthcoming season.

'After what will be a 44-year absence since we last played in Perth we are delighted to be returning to Western Australia to play not just one, but two games against Perth Glory and Leeds United.

'As well as preparing for the season ahead, the club will also have the opportunity to engage with our loyal fans in Australia, who last got the chance to see us play in Sydney in 2013.'

Perth Glory (13 July)
Leeds United (17 July)
Inter Milan (20 July)
Tottenham (25 July)
AC Milan (3 August)

Berandai-andai saja nih... :D

MU Bakal Bawa Semua Pemain Utamanya Saat Tur Asia
Putra Rusdi K - detikSport

Manchester United have a banner day at the WACA as they raise £30,000 with training session Down Under

* Manchester United held an open training session at the famous WACA in Perth
* The event drew 12,000 spectators and raised £30,000 for local football league
* A cheeky banner boasting of rival Liverpool's Champions League win appeared

Manchester United's open training session at the famous WACA in Perth, which drew around 12,000 spectators, raised close to £30,000 which will go towards an integrated football league in the area.

Keen cricket fans Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Dan James took a big interest in what has often been a brutal Test arena for England.

Meanwhile, United officials saw the funny side after a plane, paid for by Perth's Liverpool supporters club, which flew over the WACA with a banner referencing the Anfield outfit's six European Cup victories. 'It was quite the tribute,' said one. 'It flew around the stadium 20 times.'

In what would appear to be a boost for women's sport, the England and Wales Cricket Board are hoping to agree record investment for the women's version of The Hundred.

Sources say that salary budgets for each of the eight teams are set to be £120,000 - more than double that of the domestic Kia Super League - with players likely to earn up to £15,000 for the four-week competition.

An 'unprecedented marketing budget' is close to being finalised with standalone women's venues to be confirmed soon.

Manchester United to send groundsman to Shanghai to ensure no repeat of the pitch problems that marred previous visit to China

* Man United due to meet Spurs at the Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai on Thursday
* Poor playing surfaces marred their last trip to China, one game being cancelled
* It is the rainy season in the Far East and thunderstorms are forecast next week
* The Red Devils are sending groundsman Dave Lindop ahead to Shanghai

Manchester United are sending their groundsman to Shanghai to make sure there is no repeat of the pitch farce that marred their last visit to China.

The first derby on foreign soil against Manchester City was scrapped three years ago after torrential downpours left the surface at the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing unplayable.

United's first game of that tour against Borussia Dortmund at the Shanghai Stadium was also played on a poor pitch.

https://i.postimg.cc/LspRvFPX/16222564-0-Torrential-downpours-left-the-surface-at-the-Bird-s-N.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
Man United are sending a groundsman to Shanghai to ensure there are no pitch problems. Torrential downpours left the surface at the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing unplayable in 2016

It was by no means the first time English clubs have encountered problems staging pre-season friendlies in the Far East during rainy season, and thunderstorms are forecast for next week when United are due to meet Tottenham at the Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai on Thursday.

United, who had to rely on the efforts of City's groundsman to try and salvage the game in Beijing in 2016, have left nothing to chance this time by sending groundsman Dave Lindop ahead to Shanghai while the rest of the party are in Singapore for the International Champions Cup clash with Inter Milan on Saturday.

Club staff have travelled to China a total of four times since November to make sure the pitch is up to scratch, and United have also insisted on weekly updates from ICC organisers Relevent which so far have been positive.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his players flew into Singapore on Thursday following a comfortable 4-0 win over Leeds in Perth.

Although video footage has emerged of an ugly incident involving two supporters at the Optus Stadium, only 15 fans out of a crowd of 55,274 were ejected from the ground for anti-social behaviour and none were charged.

How Solskjaer has DOUBLED Manchester United's pre-season workload to make them fit for purpose

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has doubled Manchester United's pre-season workload
* The United boss is promising a fitter, more robust side to challenge this season
* A lack of fitness was to blame for the players' failure to maintain their good form
* Hopes to put all his players through a full pre-season will reap its own reward

Of all the statistics gathered by Manchester United's backroom staff during the first two weeks on tour, one in particular stands out.

The high-intensity work that the players have been subjected to so far in Perth and Singapore is 50 per cent up on the corresponding period last summer when Jose Mourinho put his squad through their paces.

This is what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was talking about when he promised a fitter, more robust United this season; one capable of carrying out the demanding game plan he wants from his team.

The feeling — some may say hope — at United is that Solskjaer's approach was responsible for the dramatic upturn in results after he replaced Mourinho in December, but a lack of fitness was to blame for the players' failure to maintain it during a dreadfully disappointing end to the season.

The goalless draw with Liverpool in February was seen as a watershed moment when three players — Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard — suffered hamstring injuries in the first half.

Solskjaer was forced to curb his approach and United were never quite the same again.

https://i.postimg.cc/HkyHcgMY/16318428-7270315-Tahith-Chong-left-and-Jesse-Lingard-right-work.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has doubled Manchester United's pre-season workload this summer. Tahith Chong (left) and Jesse Lingard (right) work with weights in the gym in Perth

In private, he was alarmed by the condition of the squad he inherited from Mourinho, who in turn blamed fitness coach Stefano Rapetti. In public, Solskjaer has vowed to whip the players into shape with good, old-fashioned hard graft.

'I can still remember when I wasn't able to walk down the stairs, you had to walk backwards,' said the United manager recalling pre-seasons under Sir Alex Ferguson. 'I don't think we've had them there yet.'

Maybe not, but the emphasis has certainly been on increasing the high-intensity training so that United are better adapted to a higher press and more possession-based style.

It was evident in Saturday's 1-0 win over Inter Milan at the National Stadium in Singapore. Young Mason Greenwood deservedly grabbed the headlines for scoring an excellent goal — his second off the bench in consecutive games — but Solskjaer was more delighted with the overall work ethic of his team.

The manager hopes the opportunity to put all his players through a full pre-season uninhibited by an international tournament will reap its own reward.

Other elements of training have been increased from last summer, overseen by head of athletic performance Richard Hawkins and carried out on the training pitch by the first team's new fitness coach Charlie Owen.

There have been more sessions in total; 14 in the space of nine days in Australia, including one on the day United played Perth Glory.

The total distance covered by the players is also up 10 per cent according to the data gathered by a small army of coaches, sports science experts and analysts.

'The work ethic has been phenomenal,' says Hawkins. 'Day one we had a meeting with the players and presented three key points that we wanted from them — to train with intensity, be committed to the process and when they have a chance to recover, to do it well, do it properly.'

The United boss is promising a fitter, more robust side to challenge this season. Solskjaer hopes that putting all his players through a full pre-season will reap its own reward

Lingard is said to be prominent among the leaders in most categories. The England international worked under Solskjaer when he was in charge of United reserves and knew what to expect.

Luke Shaw is just finding out. 'Pre-season has been very difficult, especially Ole wanting to make sure we work very hard,' admits the defender.

'But the sessions have been great and the match fitness is coming along nicely. The fans can expect a much better season than last.'

The emphasis of each session is always on running, even during tactical drills, with the aim of getting Solskjaer's squad fit for purpose. But individual programmes can be adjusted to suit a player based on his own stats.

'We try not to be on top of the players, hassling them with data, we are really streamlined on it,' said lead sports scientist Ed Leng, who joined United from Melbourne City earlier this year.

Players are doing more gym sessions to toughen up their bodies, and taking part in injury prevention exercises that rotate daily between hamstring, groin and core.

'Our key injuries over the last few years have been groins and hamstrings, so one of our aims is to ensure everyone is available for the manager on day one of the season,' says Hawkins.

After a punishing 10-day camp in Perth, United had to ease off in Singapore and it will be a similar story when they land in Shanghai today for their final tour game against Tottenham on Thursday.

Greater challenges await when the Premier League season starts, but three wins in a row would suggest that the hard work is already beginning to pay off.

Romelu Lukaku to miss ANOTHER leg of Manchester United's pre-season tour as Inter Milan continue to circle - with his ankle injury now 'not that bad'

* Romelu Lukaku will miss Manchester United's pre-season clash with Tottenham
* The Belgian is still heavily linked with a summer move to Serie A side Inter Milan
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he does not regret taking Lukaku on United's tour
* Set to sit out against Spurs, it will be the fourth game in a row Lukaku has missed

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he has no regrets about taking Romelu Lukaku on Manchester United’s pre-season tour even though the Belgium striker hasn’t been able to play.
Lukaku will miss his fourth game in a row against Tottenham in Shanghai on Thursday with the ankle injury that has also limited his ability to train with the rest of the squad.

It has come against a backdrop of intense speculation linking him with Inter Milan who failed with a £54million bid for the player last weekend.

‘Lukaku won't be fit no,’ said Solskjaer. ‘He's been working with a physio the last few days so he won't make this one either.

‘Of course, it's never nice to be a player who misses out on important fitness work and team understanding and tactical approach, so he'll just have to make up later on then.’

Solskjaer insisted he is happy with the decision to bring Lukaku out to Perth, Singapore and Shanghai even though he hasn’t been able to take part.

Asked if he had any regrets, he added. ‘He got injured in training so he had to stay here. It's not too bad, if it was worse we'd have sent him home but he's been working with physios, so no.’

Solskjaer says he has no concerns about the conditions in Shanghai three years after the Manchester derby was cancelled over the state of the pitch in Beijing. A morning thunderstorm here left the training ground under water although it had been cleared by late afternoon for United to train.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he has no regrets about taking Romelu Lukaku on pre-season tour. Set to sit out against Spurs, it will be the fourth game in a row Lukaku has missed for United. The Belgian has been a presence on the tour but continues to be linked with a move away. Solskjaer insisted he is happy with his call to take Lukaku out to Perth, Singapore and Shanghai

‘No I've not heard anything,’ said Solskjaer. ‘We got a video off the staff who were here and it was flooded, but now it's fine – no problem. The heat has helped and we can't do anything about what him upstairs decides to pour down. Everything has been spot on so far for us.’

The intense heat and humidity will also be a challenge for the players who are trying to implement Solskjaer’s high pressing tactics, but Scott McTominay is confident they will cope against Spurs.

‘As a footballer, you have to go around the world,’ said McTominay. ‘You come here and it's hot and it's humid but there are a lot of excuses the lads can make and not to have a positive end to the tour. It's important we go out tomorrow night and put everything we've worked on in training into the match as well.’

Meanwhile, Solskjaer welcomed United’s decision to promote his former teammate Nicky Butt to head of first-team development to help the younger players make the transition to the first team.

‘Scott is a good example of what we expect and hope from our youngsters,’ said Solskjaer. ‘He's being patient. I hope he's going to break through properly and have a great impact on the team.

‘With Nicky, he knows what we want from players, what the demands and standards are for young players coming through. There's always been a big void since I was in the reserves, and how is the pathway.

'It's a difficult one. But this club has been based on young players coming through and we'll always rely on young kids coming through. Nicky is going to be in charge of that.’

Lukaku meanwhile has been left out of United's travelling squad for Tuesday's friendly against Kristiansund in Norway, having missed all four matches on their pre-season tour of Australia, Singapore and China due to knocks.

On Sunday, a picture appeared on the 26-year-old's social media accounts of him and his agent Federico Pastorello, accompanied by the message 'soon to be continued.'

Lukaku's name was then missing from the 26-player travelling party that United announced on their official website on Monday morning ahead of Tuesday's match at Oslo's Ullevaal Stadium.

The Belgian, after picking up an ankle injury, trained on his own on the eve of the final match of the tour, last week's 2-1 win against Tottenham in Shanghai.

Defender Eric Bailly is not part of the group heading to Norway after he sustained a knee injury in the victory over Spurs.

Forward Alexis Sanchez is another not included after limping out of Chile's Copa America third-place play-off match against Argentina earlier this month. Full-back Matteo Darmian is also absent.

Tuesday's game, in boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's homeland, is United's penultimate pre-season fixture as they face AC Milan in Cardiff on Saturday.
