New Dell laptop introduces wireless charging

Yesterday I had the chance to check out a new laptop from Dell. With its crisp screen, ultra-thin profile, and cutting edge specs like an SSD hard drive, it's certainly a looker, yet there's nothing immediately obvious about the machine -- part of Dell's business-class Latitude line -- that makes it unique. But there's a rare first secreted within the Latitude Z: Its battery can be charged wirelessly, without plugging it in.

The system works a lot like your electric toothbrush. A special dock (available as a $200 option) has a coil of wire inside that matches up with a coil on the bottom of the Latitude Z. When the two coils come in contact, power is transferred over that small distance through induction. Dell says it is no slower to charge this way than through plug-in power (a standard plug is also available when you're on the road and away from the dock). Getting the laptop situated just-so on the dock so that the two coils are in contact didn't seem as easy as it should be, but overall I found the innovation to be decisively cool.

The Latitude Z has other enhancements in its innards, though none as exciting as the wireless charging feature. Dell has long included smart card slots in its corporate-class machine, but an option with the Z lets users simply swipe the card across the palm rest to log in. Dell also uses a separate processor on its own motherboard to give the Z a non-Windows, instant-on mode to give quick access to a web browser, email, contacts, and calendars. Dell says use of the low-power quick-boot mode could provide battery life of half a day or more.

Then there's a wireless docking system -- separate from the wireless charging option -- that lets you connect to USB devices and an external monitor without plugging the computer in. An implementation of long-suffering UWB technology, Dell demonstrated the computer using a secondary monitor connected to the dock, the screen smoothly updating as a company rep walked around the room with the laptop in hand, unconnected to the monitor by wire. It's probably less useful than some of the machine's other innovations (the range of the wireless dock is only 12 feet), but still very cool.

The Latitude Z starts at $1,999 (on sale for $1.799 at the moment) and goes on sale today. Expensive to be sure, and possibly only in reach of the most "C" of C-level executives.

Tapi kita bicara menggunakan logika benda yang bergerak lurus dan juga berputar pada porosnya. Proses ini mirip dengan perputaran bumi mengelilingi matahari. Rumus fisika Newton tadi dipecah menjadi dua yaitu :

Jika bola dikenai gaya berupa tendangan dengan arah A tepat pada titik x, maka bola akan terdorong dalam dua arah yang berbeda. Arah pertama, B akan mendorong bola bergerak ke depan, sedangkan arah kedua, C, akan mendorong bola bergerak berputar pada porosnya. Gabungan putaran itu akan menimbulkan gaya sentrifugal yang memaksa bola tidak lagi bergerak lurus melainkan akan melengkung searah dengan putaran bola, artinya jika bola berputar ke kiri, maka lengkungan bola akan berbelok ke kiri, begitu sebaliknya.
Efek gravitasi bumi menyebabkan bola akan bergerak menukik ke bawah karena bola kehilangan momentum setelah dikenai perlambatan berupa gesekan udara. Seandainya saja tidak ada perlambatan, maka bola akan bergerak membentuk lintasan lingkaran sempurna.
Besarnya radius lengkung lintasan bola bergantung pada kecepatan putaran bola. Makin cepat bola berputar, makin kuat gaya sentrifugal yang menarik bola, maka makin kecil pula radius lintasannya. Biasanya bola berputar membutuhkan kekuatan yang lebih besar dibanding bola diam. Karena itu tidak heran pemain yang memiliki tendangan lengkung pastilah memiliki tendangan keras.
tingkat kelengkungan bola makin bagus kalau dibantu oleh kekuatan angin yang cukup kuat yang bergerak mengikuti lintasan bola, sebaliknya jika angin melawan lintasan bola, maka lintasannyapun akan membesar.

Jakarta - John Solomon berjalan dengan percaya diri ke tengah panggung. Hari itu adalah hari penting baginya karena dia akan berbicara pada seratusan wartawan dari negara-negara Asia Pasifik. Dan Asia Pasifik sangat penting baginya karena kawasan ini bakal menjadi ladang tergemuk bisnisnya: printer berbasis web dari lini Photosmart.

"Selamat datang di revolusi pencetakan web HP!" begitulah kalimat pembuka Senior VP Imaging and Printing Group Hawlett-Packard (HP) Asia Pacific & Japan ini di penghujung Juni lalu dalam helatan di Studio Shaw di Hong Kong. Sepanjang pidatonya, Solomon memuji Asia Pasifik sebagai pusat pertumbuhan internet.

"Lebih 700 juta rumah tangga di penjuru dunia telah dan akan terkoneksi internet menjelang 2013. Dari jumlah itu, 50% berada di sini, Asia Pasifik," ujar pria jangkung ini.

Pertumbuhan internet di Asia Pasifik mencapai 11 persen per tahun, nyaris 4 kali lipat dari pertumbuhan di AS dan Eropa. "Asia Pasifik adalah tempat pertambahan koneksi web di dunia berpusat," imbuhnya.

Untuk memperkuat asumsinya, Solomon membuka data. Menurut dia, akan ada 1 miliar smartphone menjelang 2013 dan sepertiganya berada di Asia Pasifik. Rerata tingkat penyerapan smartphone tumbuh 31 persen year on year. Smartphone pun menjadi piranti mayoritas yang digunakan orang-orang sebagai piranti kunci mereka.

"Enam dari 10 pengguna internet berada di Asia Pasifik. Inilah yang menghubungkan dunia sekarang ini," ujarnya.

Solomon melihat China sebagai penyumbang yang menonjol. Dia menyebutkan, pada 2009 China memiliki netizen lebih banyak dibandingkan AS. Lebih banyak orang di China yang terkoneksi dengan internet dalam keseharian mereka dibandingkan dengan penduduk di AS. Mereka yang aktif di media sosial ditaksir mencapai 500 juta orang. Rata-rata orang online selama 20 jam/minggu, utamanya untuk berinteraksi di media sosial.

Dari fakta-fakta itulah, ujar Solomon, bisa dimengerti bahwa konsumen dan pasar siap menerima web connected world yang berpusat di smartphone. "Lebih banyak pengguna mobile web di China daripada yang akan ada di AS menjelang akhir tahun ini,"
ujarnya.

Prestasi Asia Pasifik dalam penggunaan internet bergerak mengungguli AS. "Asia Pasifik tumbuh lebih cepat dan menjadi pusat web connected world. Dan Asia Pasifik memilih piranti bergerak sebagai piranti pilihan untuk terhubung dengan internet," papar Solomon.

Lagi-lagi Solomon menyebut China sebagai pangsa yang menggiurkan. Dia memperkirakan akan ada 1 miliar pengguna produk-produk internet bergerak di China menjelang 2014.

Solomon lantas membawa pada pemikiran, bagaimana bila pebisnis Asia -- yang menjadikan piranti mobile sebagai pusat kehidupan mereka -- pada akhirnya ingin mengeprint? Nah, di sinilah HP mencoba mempertahankan dominasinya sebagai produsen printer dunia dengan mengkompromikan piranti bergerak dan printer.

Sehingga lahirlah printer berbasis web yang tiap unitnya memiliki alamat e-mail. Tiap orang bisa mengeprint hanya dengan meng-emailkan dokumen mereka ke email address printer.

Dengan revolusi ini, 'budaya' mengeprint yang sempat kendor karena orang lebih suka membaca di layar smartphone yang mungil, tampaknya bakal tumbuh kembali. HP mencoba menawarkan cara ngeprint yang penuh gaya, simpel dan hanya butuh 3 sentuhan di layar Touchsmart jika ingin mengoperasikan puluhan aplikasi penyedia konten pihak ketiga yang dilekatkan ke badan printer.

Printer anyar ini bersama tinta -- kebutuhan wajib yang dikonsumsi berulang yang selama ini menjadi tambang emas HP -- akan semakin mendongkrak laba pabrikan asal AS ini. Sungguh revolusi yang cerdas!

Windows 8 Hadir di 2012?

Jakarta - Beredar kabar, Windows 8 bakal hadir pada tahun 2012 mendatang. Adapun versi beta Windows 8 akan dimulai di awal 2011. Benarkah?

Kabar tersebut didapat detikINET dari Softpedia, Jumat (2/7/2010). Suksesor Windows 7 tersebut memang direncanakan hadir setelah tiga tahun kehadiran Windows 7 di pasaran. Microsoft mengungkap bahwa mereka takkan mengulangi jeda waktu lama yang terjadi antara evolusi Windows XP ke Vista.

Sejalan dengan itu, Windows 8 dilaporkan hadir pada pertengahan 2012 atau dua tahun lagi. Sebelumnya, Mary-Jo Foley dari Zdnet pernah mengungkapkan bahwa Microsoft telah rampung meramu Milestone 1, yang bakal menjadi cikal bakal Windows 8. Versi betanya kemungkinan bakal hadir mulai 2011.

Sayangnya, Microsoft belum buka suara. Raksasa software asal Redmond itu belum memberi konfirmasi resmi.

Sebagai informasi, dokumen Windows 8 sebelumnya pernah bocor ke publik. Salah satu yang terungkap dalam dokumen itu, Windows 8 akan difokuskan pada tiga bentuk perangkat: laptop, PC 'all in one' dan slate alias tablet.

Turut disebut-sebut pula dalam dokumen itu adalah keberadaan toko aplikasi Windows Store. Ini merupakan sebuah toko aplikasi ala App Store-nya Apple ataupun Android Market-nya Google namun untuk aplikasi yang berjalan di Windows 8.

Rencana Microsoft untuk pengenalan wajah adalah yang paling menarik. Dengan webcam di laptop, dan kamera yang menghadap depan di smartphone seperti Apple iPhone dan HTC EVO 4G, hal yang logis bagi Microsoft untuk menemukan cara-cara inovatif untuk meningkatkan fungsi perangkat kerasnya. [ito]

Untuk berlangganan gratis kita harus mengisi form khusus dengan beberapa pertanyaan. Biasanya pertanyaan seputar perusahaan. Menurut penuturan beberapa orang yang sudah langganan majalah ini secara gratis, mereka kadang mengisi form pertanyaan dengan jawaban setengah fiktif namun wajar. Sebab majalah ini memang ditujukan kepada praktisi IT jadi pertanyaannya kadang seperti berapa karyawan Anda, Sistem software apa yang digunakan kantor Anda, dll. Kalau jawaban kita meragukan, maka aplikasi kita ditolak hehehe ...

Jakarta - Pertumbuhan Twitter terus melonjak tak terbendung. Jejaring sosial yang hanya menyediakan ruang 140 karakter itu pun semakin membuat Facebook tidak tenang duduk di singgasananya.

Hingga kini, tercatat telah lebih dari dua miliar tweet yang diposting warga Twitter setiap bulannya. Bahkan pada Juni 2010, jumlah itu konon telah bertambah hingga lebih dari 2,3 miliar tweet.

Chief Operational Officer Twitter, Dick Costolo, bulan lalu sempat mengumumkan ada sekitar 65 juta tweet yang diposting setiap harinya, atau sebanyak 1,96 miliar tweet berseliweran setiap bulannya. Artinya, ada 1.000 tweet yang terposting setiap detiknya.

Seperti detikINET kutip dari Telegraph, Minggu (4/7/2010), Costolo juga mengungkapkan bahwa ada sekitar 135.000 akun baru di Twitter setiap harinya.

Sejak awal beroperasi hingga akhir Mei lalu, ada sekitar 15 miliar tweet yang diposting di Twitter. Angka itu melonjak setelah tiga bulan sebelumnya tercatat ada 10 miliar tweet.

Dalam upayanya memperluas bisnis, kata Costolo, Twitter pun tengah menyiapkan diri untuk ekspansi basis penggunanya di Los Angeles dan New York, Amerika Serikat, serta negara lain seperti Inggris dan Jepang.

Twitter yang kian menggurita ternyata tak luput dari perhatian Mark Zuckerberg, pendiri sekaligus CEO dari Facebook. "Saya pribadi terlalu memerhatikan Twitter," begitu katanya.

Secara tidak langsung, pemilik jejaring sosial terbesar di dunia maya ini mengakui bahwa Facebook cukup terancam dengan laju pertumbuhan Twitter yang kian pesat.

"Saya melihat laju mereka dan berpikir, kalau ini terus berlanjut selama 12 atau 18 bulan, maka dalam setahun saja Twitter bisa lebih besar dari kami," tandas Zuckerberg.

Browser Speed Tests: The Latest Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Safari—on a Mac

Many readers have asked us to replicate our browser speed tests on a Mac, to see the difference in platforms and performance. So we snagged a new MacBook Pro when nobody was looking and tested the latest browsers on it.

While this is a pretty good match to the tests we just finished on Windows, we're adding in a Firefox 4 pre-release build and the final version of Opera 10.6—which, all told, probably isn't that different from the beta, given the short time distance between them. We used the same browser testing parameters we're regularly using for Windows browsers, with a few exceptions.

In the case of cold and warm starts, and nine-tab loading, I could not find an equivalent of my favorite Windows timer, made by Rob Keir, that can stay on top of any window and be activated by a custom keyboard shortcut. If you know of such a Mac timer app with those features, by all means—tell us in the comments or by email. Instead, then, I had to rely on the Ultimate Stopwatch app for Android, made by Richard Hyndman. I used one finger to tap the "O" key to launch items with Command+O, while simultaneously tapping the timer app on my Nexus One, and tried my best to be consistent.

As for the testing platform, it's a MacBook Pro, bought the day of the latest hardware "refresh," with the specs shown at left here. It was kept plugged in for the tests, and running on a LAN cord for page loading measurements.

It's not all that surprising that Apple's software engineers would have the best shot at getting fast start-ups and smooth integration down pat. What is surprising, though, are all the other results. Compared to the Windows results, everything's almost inverted—Chrome takes longer to start up, and Chrome beats out Firefox.

I'd have expected Safari 5 to fare better at loading multiple tabs on a Mac than on Windows, but, alas. It did actually load the tabs after a while, though, as compared to a freeze-out on Windows. Chrome continues to be the savviest at tab loading—though there's no Internet Explorer 8 here to weird out the results.

JavaScript—Winner: Opera 10.6!

I don't entirely trust this result, or, at least, question whether it's the Dromaeo test we're using, or Opera's JavaScript coders, or a little of both. Opera 10.6 jumps from an also-ran in beta form to a miles-ahead winner in final form—unless it's just far, far faster on a Mac. This is, of course, just one test of certain benchmarks, and not a full picture. Still, beyond Opera's weird jump, Chrome, Safari, and Firefox performed at about par with their Windows counterparts.

Memory Use (Without Extensions)—Winner: Safari 5!

One big caveat in this test is that Chrome's developers note that the browser "seriously over-reports memory usage"—it's a bug report they link right from the about:memory page we're using to fairly measure multi-process memory usage. That said, I don't think Chrome was going to knock down the far-and-away efficiency of Safari, or probably even catch up to Firefox in second place.

Memory Use (With Extensions)—Winner: Firefox 3.6.6!

We would have liked to test out a similar set of extensions on Firefox 4's pre-released, but even after using a don't-worry-about-compatibility tweak, our test build refused to let us try three of the five extensions in our testing guidelines. So we stuck with what we could text, and Firefox again performed well with five representative add-ons loaded. Many of our commenters will note that Firefox seems to leak memory over time—we're brainstorming a testing process that would fairly catch this. Suggestions? Drop them in the comments.
The Scores

We've tallied up how the six browsers performed in five tests—cold/warm starts, nine-tab load, JavaScript, DOM/CSS, and memory use—and we're posting the results here. It's not scientific, but we tried to be fair in calling winners, and granting ties when results were so close as to be negligible to the end user. Here's how these browsers fared, ordered in rank, out of a total of 30:

Compare that to the final scores in our Windows tests, and you'll get an inkling that not all browsers are created equal, especially across operating systems.

As many commenters have noted, these are just numbers and tests—they don't take into account standard features you may love about a browser, add-ons you can't get anywhere else, or a general good vibe you get from a certain browser. We just like to see how things stack up from an objective perspective, so we know what to expect when browser makers claim their newest build is, inevitably, the "fastest ever."

Kalo saya sih pakainya Opera, setia terus :D. DUlu sebelum versi 10 keluar, biasanya pake Firefox kalo cuma untuk Browing Facebook dan lain2, kalo Download jelas pake Opera. Chrome emang ringan banget, tp terlalu simple Interfacenya. Ringannya hanya pas menjalankan aplikasinya saja. Jadi kalo Chrome dan Firefox di double klik secara bersamaan, Chrome jauh lebih cepet munculnya :-?. Saya pake opera karena uda terbiasa, uda enak aja, bisa Customize Appearance dll. Kalo di Firefox kan ada Add Ons nya seperti saya suka pake Personas biar caem GIla Firefoxnya :D. Ngga tau kenapa Opera lebih cepet kalo donlot dan Loading Page, lagipula ada Teknologi Turbo kalo sewaktu2 Bandwith lg down :D. Meskipun sepengalaman saya, resolusi gambar di Opera bakal ancur juga :D. Kalo safari pernah coba beberapa kali, dan emang berat bangett euy! Browsing emang cepet ngeLoad nya, tp tetep aja berat, apalagi kalo buka Tabs baru, whew! Kayaknya ini cocok untuk spek kompie yg diatas Standar deh~:>. Oiya Opera terbaru, pas saya ke Warnet, kalo Login di UI Forum selalu keluar lg, kecuali saya Check! Remember Me-nya. Atau setting sendiri biar dia mau inget Cookiesnya dan Cache biar Sessionnya bisa tahan lama :D. Karena kalo cuma Remember Me doank, emang berhasil masuk ke Forum UI, tp kemaren pas pasang skor di Game Tebak SKor ~:>, ngga mau di Save masukan saya :amazed:. Kalo pake IDM, Firefox pasti langsung detect karena AddOn buat IDM langsung masuk. Lah kalo opera, harus restart dulu. Makanya kalo mau donlot (IDM), biasanya saya pake Browsing Firefox aja deh :D.

Sekarang banyak bertebaran Browser2 yg khusus dibuat untuk Social Networking, kalo ngga salah ada Turunannya Mozilla, FLock yah kalo ngga salah. Didalemnya uda ada aplikasi tinggal klik untuk Upload foto ke Multi SC, seperti FS, FB, dan lain2... Hmm itu aja dulu yg saya mau share.hehehe

'Adegan Ranjang Krisdayanti' Jadi Umpan Pengguna Facebook

Jakarta - Jika tiba-tiba sebuah pesan asing muncul di kolom chat Facebook, kita harus waspada. Apalagi isinya menawarkan video adegan ranjang Krisdayanti dan Raul Lemoz di sebuah hotel. Alih-alih video 'panas' kita dapati, bisa jadi informasi berharga malah dicuri.

Sekalipun pesan tersebut dikirimkan melalui akun Facebook saudara, teman, atau keluarga, sebaiknya jangan percaya. Itu merupakan ulah phiser lokal yang mulai beraksi memanfaatkan live chat Facebook.

"Terbaru !!!! Adegan perselingkuhan Krisdayanti dan Raul lemoz di sebuah hotel belucci negara timor leste.Disini terlihat sekali diva pop indonesia kridayanti sangat hot di ranjang, Adegan ini terekam oleh kamera cctv hotel tersebut..ada juga video ahmad dhani dan mulan jamella inilah bukti rusaknya moral para selebriti indonesia,, Video ini dapat di akses dan di download secara gratis..!!," tulis pesan phiser lokal tersebut, seperti didapat detikINET dari analisis Vaksincom, Rabu (1/9/2010).

Jika mendapati akun Facebook teman atau saudara mengirimkan pesan asing tersebut, sebaiknya kita segera memberitahu mereka untuk mengganti password Facebook.

Berdasar analisis Vaksincom, link yang digunakan pelaku adalah http://ambil.info yang merupakan layanan URL pendek lokal yang kalau diklik akan mengantar anda ke situs phishing yang memalsukan page login Facebook. Bedanya adalah ditambahkan satu kalimat berbunyi, "This video is very confidential. then you are required to login again to view the videos". Sebenarnya lnik URL pendek tersebut menunjuk ke satu hosting gratis di http://yourfreehosting.net.

Menurut pantauan Vaksincom, phisher lokal ini menggunakan link http://ambil.info/koleksiartis dan sudah mempersiapkan nama-nama pengganti lain seperti http://ambil.info/koleksimeteor. Jika pengguna memblok dua link ini, phisher dengan mudah mendaftarkan linknya kembali ke penyedia URL pendek lain.

Hal terbaik yang dapat dilakukan adalah mengedukasi diri dan pengguna Facebook atau layanan lain seperti Gmail, Yahoo untuk selalu berhati-hati serta jangan pernah memasukkan informasi krusial. Waspadalah! ( detikinet )
