30. Ritchie De Laet
http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk224/supernan_17/delaet.jpg
Birthdate : 28 Nov 1988
Birthplace : Antwerp, Belgium
Position : Defender
Appearances : 2
Goals : 0
Joined United : 08 Jan 2009
United Debut : 24 May 2009 v Hull City (A)
International : Belgium
Belgium-born Ritchie De Laet signed for United in January 2009 after joining from Stoke City.
A centre-half by trade, he is also more than comfortable playing at left-back as he showed during an impressive first team debut for the Reds in the 1-0 win at Hull City on the final day of the 2008/09 season.
De Laet showed plenty of attacking intent down the left flank and also defended solidly, helping Sir Alex's men keep a deserved clean sheet.
Prior to his arrival at Old Trafford, the Belgian had spent 18 months with Stoke, but never actually made an
appearance for the Potters. After joining in January 2007 for an initial £100,000 fee from Royal Antwerp, De Laet spent a month on loan with Blue Square Premier side Wrexham in the autumn, but made just three appearances following a spate of injuries. When his time in Wales ended, he had a double hernia operation to treat a long-standing problem.
Before his surprise inclusion in United's first team for the trip to Hull, De Laet had made good progress with the Reserves and was part of the second string squad that won the Torneo Calcio Memorial Claudio Sassi-Sassuolo in April 2009.
De Laet featured in three of United's five games in Italy and converted a penalty in the semi-final shoot-out win over FC Modena. The Reds later beat Ajax 1-0 in the final to secure the trophy.
A few days after his first team debut, De Laet was called up to the national squad for Belgium's Kirin Cup matches against Chile and Japan. He won his first cap in the 1-1 draw with Chile, and remains on the fringes of Sir Alex Ferguson's senior squad.

De Laet signs new Red Devils deal
teamtalk
Manchester United have handed a new contract to Ritchie de Laet, while Danny Welbeck is also reported to be on the verge of signing a new deal.
The 20-year-old defender only joined United in January, when the Red Devils signed him from Stoke.
He has impressed Sir Alex Ferguson since making the move to Old Trafford and is now on the verge of the first team.
And his progress has been rewarded with a new three-year deal.
"Alex Ferguson told me I'm very close to the first team," he told The Sun.
"There has been talk of me going out on loan but Sir Alex said I can't leave as he may need me. The new contract is a surprise and fantastic news."
United team-mate Welbeck is also said to be close to agreeing a new three-year contract at Old Trafford.

A Star in the Making’ – United’s Ritchie De Laet
-footballfancast.com-
http://www.footballfancast.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/Ritchie-De-Laet-221x300.jpg
When Man Utd signed Ritchie De Laet from Stoke City in January 2009 it of course raised eyebrows.
The young man from Belgium was a virtual unknown, joining Stoke City from United’s feeder club Royal Antwerp in August 2007 and after brief stints at Bournemouth and Wrexham in 2008, he became a United player.
He immediately went into the reserves as many scoffed at United signing a player that could not make it at the Britannia stadium, but after a slow start under reserve manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he flourished and in April was part of the reserve team that won the Torneo Calcio Memorial Claudio Sassi Sassuolo ahead of teams like Juventus and Ajax.
On the final day of last season, De Laet was given his first team debut against relegation threatened Hull and he did not fail to impress as he put in an assured performance at left back, helping a young United team keep a clean sheet. His defensive display on the day was impressive but equally impressive was how he bombed forward up the wing to support attacks. It looked like United had yet again unearthed a gem.
After an inspiring performance against Valencia during pre season where again he showcased his ability to overlap and aid attacks, De Laet has continued to impress in the reserves and when the opportunity has arisen he has performed in the first team making appearances against Wolves and Barnsley in the Carling Cup.
De Laet can play all across the back line but excels in either full back position. Not afraid of the physical aspect of the game he is also a solid tackler. He has reasonable pace and at 6ft 1 has decent aerial ability. What particularly impressive in the Hull game was how certain he was in his play both defensively and offensively. The task of playing in the Premiership against relegation threatened Hull did not appear to daunt him.
People have questioned his positioning and the gaps he leaves in defence when he goes on one of his marauding forward runs but at just 20 years old these are thing that can be improved on especially as he has the likes of Gary Neville, John O’Shea, Patrice Evra and Wes Brown to learn from.
On October 6th, his performances were rewarded as United upgraded his performance based contract to a 3 year deal, but he cannot now get complacent, as De Laet will know that it takes hard work and talent to succeed at United.
He will also realise that he will have a hard time breaking into and cementing a spot in the first team with Patrice Evra and Fabio ahead of him at left back and John O’Shea, Wes Brown and Rafael all preferred choices at right back. But his attitude thus far has been great and if he can continue to work as hard as he has and take chances when they are presented to him he could find himself in the first team sooner than he thinks.

Last night Gibson, Welbeck, De Laet and Co proved themselves more than capable. And if Ferguson cares to examine last week's newspapers closely he will find that precious few people actually suggested they were not in the first place.

De Laet overcomes nerves
http://picsrv.manutd.com/?fif=/manu/img_10_32149_4595.jpg&obj=iip,1.0&wid=480&hei=179&rgn=0.008264462809917355,0.05360824742268041,0.991 7355371900827,0.36907216494845363&cvt=jpeg
Ritchie De Laet overcame any pre-match nerves to deliver a solid performance and help United navigate a potentially tricky Carling Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur.
De Laet started his first game of the season at left-back and played a key part in keeping Spurs’ experienced stars at bay as the Reds won 2-0 thanks to a double strike from Darron Gibson.
Belgian defender De Laet certainly felt the step up from the Reserves, but showed his gratitude to the more senior players for their support.
Speaking to MUTV, he said: “It was a lot quicker than playing in the Reserves on a Thursday night, but Nemanja, Wes and Ji helped me through and it was a good result in the end.
“It’s always nerve-wracking for a young player if you come into the dressing room knowing you are playing. You want to get onto the pitch as quickly as possible, but at the same time you don’t want to do anything wrong because it’s your big chance.
“You have to get through those first few minutes and then see what the game does for you.”
Ritchie had to adapt quickly and the prospect of keeping David Bentley quiet was daunting enough. Not only did he complete that task effectively, he saw off the threat of another of the top flight’s trickiest wingers, Aaron Lennon, when the diminutive wide man switched flanks in the second half.
“Bentley is a different type of player to Lennon, so you have to approach it differently. In the last 10 or 15 minutes Lennon came to my side and I had to think again because I had to change my approach. But as a professional footballer you have to learn to adapt to the game.”
Adapt he did, and Ritchie will hope he did enough to earn another chance to shine when the Reds find out the Carling Cup semi-final draw on Wednesday evening. And he feels the youngsters, with the support of one or two old heads, are capable of going all the way in the competition.
“We knew that if we won this game we’d get at least two more matches in the semis so it’s always good to progress,” he said. “It looks good if you get to the final, and then you have the chance to win it. The first-team lads always come and tell us we’re doing well, and we just need to do what we do in training. It gives you confidence.”
De Laet reserved a special final mention for fellow young gun and Reds’ match-winner Darron Gibson.
“He practises those shots every day in training,” he said. “Sometimes you get days where they go high or wide but they were two brilliant goals and his performance all round was excellent. He came to pick the ball from the defence and fed the forwards, which is what you want from a central midfielder.”

Ritchie De Laet will be the latest player to answer Sir Alex Ferguson's centre-back SOS - if Nemanja Vidic fails to recover from a calf strain by Saturday.
The young Belgian impressed at right-back and later in the middle after Vidic was substituted in Tuesday's win over Wolves, and is now set to start in the centre against Fulham at Craven Cottage - with Wes Brown already ruled out by his boss.
"Wes has a hamstring strain and it's going to keep him out for a couple of weeks," Sir Alex confirmed on MUTV.
"Vidic suffered a calf strain tonight and that's a worrry for us ahead of Saturday. We just have to get on with it.
"Young De Laet has shown some promise and he did very well when he moved to centre-back. He is a natural centre-half and he'll probably be there on Saturday."
De Laet was making only his second league appearance for United, following his final-day debut at Hull City in May. He completed 90 minutes, in a back four that finished with Darren Fletcher at right-back, Michael Carrick in the centre and Patrice Evra on the left

Sir Alex Ferguson looks set to turn to the Belgian youngster Ritchie de Laet for Saturday's visit to Fulham as Manchester United's defensive problems continue to mount up. Having ruled out John O'Shea and Jonny Evans until January, and with Gary Neville joining Rio Ferdinand on the injured list with an unspecified date for his return, the United manager was hoping Nemanja Vidic and Wes Brown would stay fit to see them through the festive period.
Instead, Brown is out for a fortnight with a hamstring injury, while the stand-in captain, Vidic, strained his calf in Tuesday's 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Although the injury might not be as serious as first feared, Vidic still looks doubtful, meaning De Laet could be paired with Michael Carrick at centre-back.
The 21-year-old Belgian ended up in that position against Wolves and is believed to be happiest at centre-half, though he has played all along the back line for United. "Ritchie showed some promise at centre-back and he will probably be there on Saturday now," Ferguson said. "We just have to get on with it."
However, Patrice Evra, United's only fit first-team defender, is less confident about the club's ability to deal with the injury crisis. "The injuries are getting worse," he said. "I have told everyone they need to go to church every day and pray. It is a difficult time that's for sure. But the squad is strong enough and, thankfully, we have some players like Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher who can play at the back."

De Laet delights Sir Alex
Ritchie De Laet is set to make his second consecutive league start for United at Fulham on Saturday, following praise from his manager.
At his pre-match press conference, Sir Alex Ferguson spoke of his delight for De Laet's upturn in fortune since arriving in M16, and said he had no qualms about fielding the Belgian at centre-half (his natural position) if Nemanja Vidic isn't fit.
The United boss said: “Ritchie's been fantastic. We gave him a new contract about six weeks ago because we see there is good potential there.
“He’s developed in training, he’s only 20, he’s very quick and powerful, and he’s now in the Belgian squad, so it’s been a remarkable turnaround for him.”
Ritchie arrived at Old Trafford in January as a virtual unknown from Stoke City. Sir Alex explained his journey to United from the Reds’ former feeder club, Royal Antwerp.
“We sent players over there for a few years like John O’Shea, Craig Cathcart, Jonny Evans, Danny Simpson, quite a lot of players.
"Ritchie was a young player there at the time and we sent Warren Joyce (now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reserve-team assistant) over there when they were struggling for a coach.
“Antwerp sold Ritchie to a Turkish team but they had financial problems and couldn’t pay his wages. So he had to go on a free transfer and Stoke City brought him to England.
“We were having problems with young centre-halves in our reserves when Warren Joyce remembered Ritchie from his Antwerp days.
"We spoke to Stoke about him, and that’s how he came to be here. He never played a first-team game for Stoke, he probably wasn’t there long enough.”
Nemanja Vidic is a doubt for Saturday, but Sir Alex is hopeful that he might overcome a calf injury picked up in the win over Wolves in midweek.
If the Serbian centre-half is fit, then De Laet is likely to start at right-back again.

Never de Laet to make it at United
-unitedrant.co.uk-
http://www.unitedrant.co.uk/wp-content/themes/flashnews/thumb.php?src=http://www.unitedrant.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/delaet.jpg&h=189&w=279&zc=1&q=95
Manchester United defender Ritchie de Laet may never make it at the club but the Belgian has impressed in the little match time proffered by Sir Alex Ferguson to date. Set to start United’s FA Cup tie with Leeds on Sunday, it has been a circuitous route to the top for the former Royal Antwerp player who arrived at Old Trafford via Stoke reserves.
de Laet, who recently signed a three-year extension to his contract at Old Trafford, has appeared five times this season after making his United debut in the team’s final-day win at Hull City last season. A natural central defender, de Laet has already played for United across every position in the back-four and started matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur this season
“Ritchie’s been fantastic. We gave him a new contract about six weeks ago because we see there is good potential there,” said Ferguson recently.
“He’s developed in training, he’s only 20, he’s very quick and powerful, and he’s now in the Belgian squad, so it’s been a remarkable turnaround for him.”
But the Antwerp-born player may never have found himself in the Old Trafford reckoning had it not been for reserve team coach Warren Joyce’s time at Antwerp in a coaching capacity. Joyce, who assists Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with United’s second string, first encountered the youngster during a spell as manager with the Belgian side between 2006 and 2008.
“We sent players over there for a few years like John O’Shea, Craig Cathcart, Jonny Evans, Danny Simpson, quite a lot of players,” added Ferguson.
“Ritchie was a young player there at the time and we sent Warren Joyce over there when they were struggling for a coach.
“We spoke to Stoke about him, and that’s how he came to be here. He never played a first-team game for Stoke, he probably wasn’t there long enough.”
While Stoke’s loss is certainly United’s gain the Belgian is yet to cement a place in United’s first team squad. Indeed de Laet is only likely to start in central defence against Leeds on Sunday with Ferguson keen to wrap Wes Brown and Nemanja Vidic in cotton wool. But with Carling Cup fixtures against Manchester City to come, de Laet could yet force his way into the first team picture before Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans return to fitness later this month.
Yet the 20-year-old has very little first team experience at any level to date and that naivety was evident as Fulham thrashed United at Craven Cottage a fortnight ago with de Laet a left-sided member of a bizarre back-three formation.
Therein lies the problem for many youngsters at United. de Laet’s strength of character in coming this far mark him out as having a better chance than most. Few would begrudge him for it.

This time last year, United signed Ritchie De Laet from Stoke City. Then a virtual unknown, the versatile defender is now targeting a regular spot in the Reds’ senior XI…
How would you sum up your first year at Old Trafford?
It’s been fantastic, better than I expected, in fact. I came here on trial to show the boss what I could do. He gave me my chance at the end of last season at Hull and I think I took it. I started training with the first team during pre-season and played in the friendly against Valencia, which went well. I’ve been involved in some Carling Cup games and a few league matches, and signed a new three-year contract. So everything has gone brilliantly.
As a young player, do you go to the more experienced lads for advice?
Yes, I do. It’s important not to be afraid of going to the older lads, who are happy to help. You want to be prepared as well as you can. Not only do you want to help the team win but you don’t want to look back on a game and be ashamed of your performance. I spoke to Gary Neville before the Carling Cup tie against Tottenham about how best to mark [Aaron] Lennon and he gave me great advice.
The recent injury crisis has given you a chance to impress…
The injury situation has been unbelievable. Of course, it would be great if every player was available and the manager could pick a settled back four, but when there are injuries you have to be ready. You need to make the most of your opportunities and give the boss something to think about before the next game.
You seem an attack-minded player - is that a part of the game you enjoy?
Definitely. I think it’s a trend of this club to have attacking full-backs and it’s one of the reasons we create so many chances. I’m learning more about the importance of picking your moment to go forward - you have to be careful not to get caught out. I used to play up front when I was a kid, then I went to central midfield and right wing. When I joined Royal Antwerp I became a centre-back and also began playing in both full-back positions.
You’re fast becoming the new John O’Shea…
[Laughs] If I can have half as good a career as he’s had then I’ll be very happy. It’s just good that I can play in a lot of positions because it gives the boss an option. I’ve played centre-back for the majority of my career, but I also enjoy playing full-back. If I had to pick one of the full-back positions, I’d probably choose right-back because I’m right-footed.
What are your main interests off the pitch?
I like doing a few things… relaxing at home with the missus and the dog, playing video games, shopping and I really enjoy going to the cinema. I love watching films, actually, especially comedies. Two of my favourites are Pineapple Express and Step Brothers and I recently bought The Hangover. I saw it at the cinema and just had to have it on DVD… I love the part of the film where they find the tiger in the bathroom!

Ritchie de Laet is delighted with his first year at Manchester United.

Player review : De Laet
-manutd.com-
http://images.football.co.uk/Dynamic/News/400x400/1249502923_spt_ai_manutd_v_valencia_11.jpg
Young, versatile and attack-minded: they're Sir Alex's favourite traits and Ritchie De Laet possesses them all.
2009/10 appearances : Premier League 2, League Cup 1(2). Total: 3(2).
Season soundbite : "Ritchie has been a revelation since signing from Stoke and he deservedly gained some first-team appearances [last] term. He is a very versatile defender who also has an eye for a goal, and he's a real leader in the team." - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
In a word : Promising
Story of the season : The Belgian proved a reliable squad member last term, playing in three different positions across the back four. His biggest contribution to the first-team came in December, with United’s defence decimated by injuries. Unfortunately, a cruel twist of fate prevented him from taking his talents to the European stage, as UEFA regulations prohibited him being drafted in for the trip to Wolfsburg. He was a regular for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Reserves, though, where consistent performances at the heart of the defence earned him the Denzil Haroun Player of the Year award.
Finest moment : The pre-Christmas injury crisis gave De Laet a chance to shine. He started at left-back for the 2-0 win over Tottenham, then right-back for the 3-0 victory against Wolves. Against Mick McCarthy’s men he enjoyed plenty of action, pacifying winger George Friend while constantly providing a threat going forward. His toughest test came in the 3-0 loss at Fulham as part of a back three containing Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher. He gave a brave account of himself in trying circumstances but like most Reds that day struggled to leave his mark on the match.
Greatest attribute : Devastatingly quick, De Laet is rarely outpaced. What's more, he loves to break forward and is supremely confident with the ball at his feet. An exciting and dynamic defender.
What's in store? The 21-year-old’s first-team involvement may have been minimal in 2009/10, but his United future looks bright: in a title-winning season for the Reserves, he picked up the highly-coveted Denzil Haroun Player of the Year award.

Speed targets De Laet swoop.
Skysports.com understands Sheffield United are lining up a loan swoop for Manchester United defender Ritchie de Laet.
Blades boss Gary Speed is keen to bolster his squad and he has moved to try and bring in De Laet on a three-month deal.
A number of clubs in the Championship, League One and SPL are all thought to have enquired about signing De Laet on loan, but it appears the Blades have won the race for his signature
The Belgium international has made six first-team appearances for United since arriving from Stoke in January 2009 and he is highly regarded within the corridors of Old Trafford.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is happy to let De Laet leave on loan so that he can get valuable first-team action under his belt with his chances limited in the the Red Devils' starting XI.

Speed eyes De Laet stay
Blades boss looks to prolong stopper's loan deal

Sheffield United boss Gary Speed is hoping to extend Manchester United defender Ritchie De Laet's loan spell.
The Belgium international has appeared three times for the Blades since arriving on a temporary basis at the end of last month.
His most recent outing was in central defence in Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Watford as cover for injured duo Chris Morgan and Kyle Bartley.
Manager Speed is hoping to prolong the 21-year-old's stay at Bramall Lane as the south Yorkshire side look to bounce back from three games without a win.
Excellent
"It's something we shall look at because he has had two excellent games for us," said Speed.
"Having said that I would rather have been playing him at right-back because that would have meant that our centre-backs were fit."
Morgan was a surprise inclusion on the bench against the Hornets despite a hamstring injury, and Speed admits the captain was primarily there to boost morale.
He added: "Chris wasn't really fit, but just his presence is crucial to everyone here and I think he will be back in training (next week)."

De Laet: Delight To Despair

A dream debut turned into a nightmare one for Ritchie De Laet.
The versatile defender – who arrived on loan from Manchester United on Friday – impressed at right-back at Nottingham Forest.
And his first appearance for the Blues looked like it would be a winning one when Kanu fired the visitors ahead midway through the first half.
But Pompey were left shell-shocked when Ibrahima Sonko sliced into his own net on 87 minutes before Marcus Tudgay grabbed a stoppage-time winner for Forest.
And De Laet is still trying to figure out how Pompey contrived to lose their fourth successive game.
He said: “I thought we would get three points and it would be a perfect start for me.
“We got the goal and knew they would put pressure on us in the second half. We just needed to head and kick everything away.
“We did that until just a few minutes before the end and then conceded an unlucky goal.
“Even then we wanted to come away with a point – and it would have been a good point.
“We looked brilliant and until the final few minutes you couldn’t see them scoring a goal. They hadn’t really had any shots before then.
“But in the end there’s a dink into the box and he gets the goal – it’s heartbreaking for us and for the fans.
“We should have come away with three points but we didn’t. Now we’ve got two home games coming up.
“If we win those then we’re back up there and you don’t know what will happen.”
De Laet had only two training sessions with his new team-mates before his City Ground debut but already feels at home on the south coast.
He said: “The lads are brilliant. It’s not a big squad but everyone’s joking and laughing in training and I felt good here right away.
“I know a couple of players from my time at Stoke which makes things easier for me as well.
“And the fans were excellent. I remember they were good in the Premier League but even in the Championship they travel in large numbers and make you proud to wear the Pompey shirt.

De Laet: Year with Norwich City can show Manchester United my worth
Friday, June 24, 2011
Norwichadvertizer24
New signing Ritchie De Laet is hoping his year on loan with Norwich City will help him prove he can still make the grade with parent club Manchester United.
The 22-year-old Belgian became manager Paul Lambert’s fourth summer recruit when he agreed a season-long deal at Carrow Road, with no recall clause.
De Laet has made just six first team appearances for United since joining the club from Stoke in January 2009, and had loan spells at three Championship clubs – Sheffield United, Preston and Portsmouth – last season.
But he is hoping that in trying to help the Canaries establish themselves in the Premier League, he can also convince his Old Trafford bosses he can stand the heat in the top flight.
“If I can gain some experience and play as many games as I can in the Premier League this season then I can go back there and give it a good go at getting in the first team,” said De Laet.
“If all goes well for me there then it will be up to me to prove to the boss during pre-season that I am good enough to wear the shirt, but for now I just need to concentrate on doing well for Norwich.”
He told skysports.com: “I’ve got another year left on my contract after this season, so I’ve got until the summer of 2013 to prove myself at United.
“It is all in my own hands really because if I do well for Norwich this season it might trigger a new contract for me back at United, but if not I will still have the last year of my contract to show what I’m capable of there.”
De Laet was in the Portsmouth side beaten 1-0 by the Canaries on the night they clinched promotion at Fratton Park, his third different club last season.
“I sat down with the coaches at United and they had been keeping tabs on me while I was away with Portsmouth,” he said.
“They asked me how I felt the experience had gone for me down there and I believe that it was exactly what I needed at this stage of my career.
“Regular football at first team level is invaluable and although it might not have been the best thing for me personally to play for three different clubs in one season, it worked out really well in the end.”

De Laet keen to take chance
Youngster looking to make most of top-flight opportunity
On-loan Manchester United defender Ritchie De Laet insists his top priority is doing well for Norwich this season.
After winning a return to the Premier League for the first time in six years last term, the Canaries will kick off their warm-up campaign at local Ridgeons Football League side Gorleston Town on Saturday, before heading out to Germany for a short training camp and two low-key games.
De Laet, 22, is one of half-a-dozen new faces expected to feature at Emerald Park.
Opportunity
After stints in the Championship with Sheffield United, Preston and then Portsmouth, the young Belgian intends to make the most of his top-flight opportunities with Norwich rather than worry about what might happen when he eventually returns to Old Trafford.
"Last season was difficult having loan spells at three different clubs. I just want to play football," said De Laet.
"You learn a lot in training with the best players in the world at United, but you also want to get experience under your belt.
"First and foremost, I want to do well for Norwich and play as well as I can. Whatever happens at United, happens - if not, it is not to be, is it?"
De Laet added: "We are going to get quality players against you every week in the Premier League, and although you will make mistakes, you have to learn from that."
The former Royal Antwerp youngster jumped at the chance to sign up to Paul Lambert's summer recruitment drive as he bolsters a squad which secured successive promotions from League One to join England's elite.
"United rang me and said Norwich were interested, and I was not going to wait for a second chance to come up for the Premier League," he added.
"Norwich is a club with great traditions and winning back-to-back promotions is something special.
"They showed all season long last time they are good players - not every team comes out of the Championship playing football."
Potential
Lambert has no doubts over the potential of De Laet, who joined the Red Devils from Stoke in January 2009, making his United first-team debut against Hull City on the final day of the 2008/2009 season.
"Ritchie has been at Man United so I don't think it comes much bigger than that," said the Norwich boss.
"He has played for their first team so I am pretty sure if he can do that he must be doing something right."

De Laet learning at Norwich
.
Reds defender Ritchie De Laet is currently on loan at Norwich and was ineligible for Saturday’s fixture. He provided United Review with the lowdown on the switch and his new team-mates.
How’s the move to Norwich going, it’s not your first loan?
It’s different to being in the big city as it’s a bit quieter down here but it’s brilliant. It’s the only team in the neighbourhood which is very good.
Have you settled in well?
Yes, the club found me a place to live and have been fantastic as they are really looking after me.
What’s it like playing under Paul Lambert?
He’s brilliant – all the training sessions are high intensity. He knows what he wants from the players and what to expect from us. It’s all about what comes over onto the pitch on a Saturday and it’s been going well.
Do you prefer to play in the middle as you have been doing?
I'm playing at centre-back - obviously I don't care where I play. I can play anywhere in defence. As long as I play, I'm happy.
Obviously you were not able to*feature in Saturday's game..
*I would have loved to play against United. Everyone wants to play at Old Trafford, as it’s one of the best grounds in the world, even if it's not with United. I'd hoped the lads did well and obviously I've got to support Norwich this season. In the long run, I hope United win the championship again.
Which City players*are worth*keeping an eye on? There’s a couple of bruising strikers..
Grant Holt has been in all the leagues now and came up with Norwich from League One.
He knows all the tricks in the book and I'm sure he can be a handful for*anybody. It's the same thing with Steve Morison, he came through the leagues and works hard - as you could see in the Wales-England match. He gave John Terry and Gary Cahill real problems and he did the same thing to Cahill when we played Bolton.
Who else*is eager to shine on the big stage?
Wes Hoolahan has unbelievable feet and the lads who have come in, like Anthony Pilkington and Elliott Bennett, are so quick and tricky as well. Even the lads who have been here a while, like David Fox, who was at United, has an unbelievable passing range and Andrew Crofts played for Wales against England and is a really hard worker. We’ve also got good goalkeepers – John Ruddy is more experienced but Declan Rudd had an Under-21 call-up the other week and is a promising youngster as well.
Are the Norwich players hungry to show they belong to play in games like the one at United?
Definitely. You never know, hopefully we can stay in the league, but it’ll be the first time at Old Trafford for some of the players and it might be the last. Hopefully that’s not the case but it’s why they will just want to give their all. Like you say, they are all hungry for good performances.
What do you make of United's start to the season?
I've seen a lot of games. I was speaking to Chris Eagles at Bolton as well and we just said the same thing - United look frightening at the moment don't they? They look like everything that comes in their way, they just overcome it and win 3-0, 4-0 or 5-0. The way they are going is unbelievable.
How are things looking on the international front?
I'm 22 now so I can't play for the Under-21s anymore. Hopefully, I can keep my performances up and do well for Norwich and get noticed by the national team. They're gelling together now but obviously it's going to be hard with the Euros as it was a really tough group. But hopefully we can give it a go in the World Cup - we're with Scotland and Wales, as well as Croatia and Montenegro.
