Re: [EPL] Wolverhampton vs Manchester United

OLE'S REACTION TO DRAW AT WOLVES

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was understandably disappointed to see his Manchester United side come away with just a point at Molineux but was still pleased with plenty of aspects, including the first-half performance and another presence on the scoresheet for Anthony Martial.

In his post-match interviews, the Reds boss also discussed Paul Pogba's missed penalty and the latest on the future of Alexis Sanchez. Read his quotes below...

WE’RE IMPROVING AND LEARNING

“We dominated possession, we got the first goal, which is a great goal and in the second half we knew Wolves were going to come out like a house on fire. They gambled a little bit, created a couple of chances and probably got the goal they deserved for the pressure they had. I thought we then took control again and could have won it.

“The first half was definitely a mature performance. The second half was a bit sloppier. But we are improving. We are a very young team that will learn. We learned on the pitch today as well. You have to learn on the job, you can’t just sit back and discuss it after. You have to get the mentality right after conceding a goal because that goal was coming. I thought we finished the game the strongest. Of course we got a penalty and we could have got another two points by scoring that one but sometimes the keeper makes a good save.”

A GOOD START

“Yeah very much so. We go away from here disappointed because we feel we should have had three points. That’s another positive sign. The boys aren’t happy. They’re not bouncing in there because we got a point. We feel we deserved more and we could have done more. We know that we could have played better in the second half. We should have been better on the ball and we gave them too many chances to counter attack. But that could be a good learning curve.”

POGBA AND RASHFORD ARE THE PENALTY-TAKERS

“The two of them are the designated penalty shooters. It’s up to them, there and then, as to who feels 'this is mine'. Sometimes penalty-takers feel confident enough to score. I’ve been in that situation myself and have gone up and missed a penalty for Norway. When there are two names there it's the one who is the most confident and Paul has scored before so there’s no problem. Today Patricio made a good save. The two of them have been very confident. Last week Marcus scored a goal, I'm sure he would have loved to take another, but also Paul is confident. I like players with confidence. I’ve absolutely no problem with players walking up and saying ‘this is mine’.”

YELLOW CARD FOR DANIEL JAMES

“I don’t think it’s a booking. I haven’t seen the video but he’s so quick so you’ve got to tell me if there’s contact or not. He gets kicked so many times and I think he gets loads of yellow cards for the defenders playing against him and sometimes he gets fouled and it doesn’t look like a foul. I don’t think it’s a yellow card anyway, from live viewing.”

GOOD FINISH FROM ANTHONY

“He can finish with either right or left foot. It was a good run down the side and a good pass so all over that was a very, very good goal. He was clinical which we know we have to be because at this level you’ve got to take your chances.”

NO UPDATE ON ALEXIS SANCHEZ'S FUTURE

“Let’s see what happens in the coming few weeks. There are still a few weeks for international transfers to go through. At the moment, he’s our player.”

DE GEA'S CAPTAINCY

“David’s wearing the armband because at the moment he is very much a leader in that group and he knows that we value him as one.”

Wolves 1-1 Manchester United PLAYER RATINGS: Adama Traore completely changed the game after coming on as second-half substitute, while Marcus Rashford has a renewed swagger

* Sub Traore (8.5) provided a new lease of life for the home side at Molineux
* Forward Rashford (8) caused all manner of problems to the Wolves defence
* Goalkeeper Rui Patricio (8) produced a stunning penalty save to deny Pogba
* An off night for Daniel James (6) on his full debut but he will learn from this

Paul Pogba missed a penalty as Ruben Neves' sensational strike earned Wolves a point against Manchester United.

Midfielder Pogba had his spot-kick saved by Rui Patricio - his fourth penalty miss in a year - as United drew at Molineux.

It came after Neves curled in a brilliant second-half leveller to cancel out Anthony Martial's 50th United goal.

Sportsmail's Jack Gaughan rated the players on Monday night.

Manchester United (4-2-3-1)

David De Gea – 6

Nothing he could’ve done about Neves’ goal and barely had anything else to do.

Arron Wan-Bissaka – 7

Defensively flawless – just doesn’t give an inch. Probably wants to offer more going forward.

Victor Lindelof - 6

Did appear a little flustered at times when Wolves started to crank up some pressure.

Harry Maguire – 6.5

Cool for the majority of this yet there were a few hurried clearances as the game’s mood shifted.

Luke Shaw – 6.5

His burst gave United impetus as they opened the scoring. Struggled against Traore after half-time.

Scott McTominay - 7

Playing the game at his own pace at the moment. Another assured display in midfield.

Paul Pogba produced a disciplined display against the combative three in midfield for Wolves

Paul Pogba – 7

Disciplined display against the combative three in midfield for Wolves. Strong run for the penalty but then missed.

Daniel James – 6

An off night for James on his full debut but he will learn from games like this. Kept going to his credit.

Jesse Lingard - 7

So busy in that No 10 role off the front; Lingard’s energy in midfield is infectious.

Anthony Martial's thumping strike in the 27th minute showed he can lead the line

Marcus Rashford - 8

Had Bennett on a string and caused all manner of problems. Has a renewed swagger this year.

Anthony Martial – 7.5

Thumping strike after 27 minutes showed he can lead the line but should have scored earlier.

Subs

Juan Mata (for Lingard, 81)

Mason Greenwood (for James, 89)

Andreas Pereira (for Rashford, 89)

Subs not used

Romero, Tuanzebe, Young, Matic

Manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – 6.5

Big call to start James. Got another performance out of his side, who looked very good in spells.

Referee

Jon Moss – 7

Got all the big calls right and not his fault VAR takes ages.
