Sekedar ingin meramaikan debate aja di forum, maklum sdh lama jg ga bikin thread debate...

Menarik nih, lg hot2nya di bahas di forum/site luar... Oleh fans Man.United sendiri di cap "biasa saja" bahkan banyak juga yg menganggap "flop" meski dengan hadirnya Carrick United telah memenangi 3 EPL, 1 UCL dan 2 Carling dll... Ditambah sekarang banyak yg memperdebatkan apakah Carrick pantas untuk tampil di PD 2010 Afsel nanti bergabung dengan squad Capello... Knapa dianggap biasa saja? Karna sejujurnya posisinya Carrick itu kurang jelas, asli Center Midfield namun tidak jelas lebih condong sbg defensive or offensive? Nah dalam kedua hal tadi Carrick dianggap biasa saja karna tackle kurang, agresive biasa saja, passing pun jg dianggap biasa saja, lalu speed n visi permianan jg biasa, shooting dan headingnya pun terbilang standard, nah kelebihannya apa? Kl dari berbagai pendapat kelebihannya hanya dia bisa mudah nyetel di lini tengah meski konstribusi dan pengaruhnya nya ga terlalu dominan...

Gw tidak mau menarik kesimpulan terlebih dahulu, namun gw ingin mengetahui dan share opini dan pendapat teman2 mengenai hal ini...

Michael Carrick has come in for some heavy criticism of late but TEAMtalk's Ian Watson believes he remains a key man for club and country.

Everyone loves a scapegoat, and with Manchester United's season having come pretty spectacularly off the rails over the past fortnight, few at Old Trafford are escaping the backlash.

Dimitar Berbatov and Sir Alex Ferguson are copping most of the blame, but Michael Carrick is coming in for some extremely heavy stick, pretty unreasonably it seems.

Granted Carrick, like many of his team-mates, has not enjoyed his most productive season but the midfielder still has a key role to play for club and country, one with different responsibilities than those he was given during his first three years at Old Trafford in which he won a title-winners medal in each.

Carrick has been employed in a slightly more defensive role for United this campaign, even at times being asked to drop back in at centre-half. As a 'water-carrier', Carrick's discipline has allowed Darren Fletcher to continue carving out a reputation as a box-to-box player, while veterans Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs have been allowed to concentrate more on supplying the front men.

Because he has become less of an attacking influence, many United fans have been quick to identify Carrick as one of the reasons their season has stalled, with some even wanting him sold.

Those fans might then be surprised at just how important Carrick could be to England's World Cup campaign this summer.

Fabio Capello has used Gareth Barry as the more defensively-minded midfielder during their successful-but-untesting qualification campaign, but in South Africa, especially at the later stages of the tournament, Barry is likely to need a hand. Something he gets at club level from Nigel De Jong, Vincent Kompany or Patrick Vieira.

The Manchester City man has been in the side largely because of his ability to influence the play at both ends of the field but against the best teams in the world, Barry could find himself exposed defensively and out-numbered. The inclusion of Carrick - with his tactical nous and passing radar - gives England an insurance policy in a system that relies on attacking full-backs and the ability of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard to get forward in support of Wayne Rooney and Emile Heskey.

Carrick might not be seen as the glamorous option ahead of a speed merchant such as Aaron Lennon, and in the group stages, the midfielder's industry may well give way to a more obvious attacking threat. But as the tournament goes on or perhaps in the later stages of games during which England find themselves under the cosh, Carrick may play an increasingly important role.

For precedents, one only has to look at the 2002 and 2006 tournaments, during which Nicky Butt and Owen Hargreaves respectively were England's star men ahead of their more attacking and attention-grabbing peers.

Before their performances proved the doubters wrong, Butt and Hargreaves also had their England places questioned, with Hargreaves actually being booed by those who failed to recognise his contribution. Sounds quite similar to Carrick's current circumstances, don't you think?

Without doubt, had Hargreaves managed to overcome his injury and psychological issues, he would be the anchor man for United and England.

But with his return seemingly no nearer than at any point over recent months and United having more pressing demands on their limited transfer budget, Carrick remains the best alternate option for both Ferguson and Capello.

dustybinney (Manchester United): Carrick is great when United are on top and goes missing when United aren`t. He cannot handle being harressed by players. That being said, you can see what happened to liverpool when you take his style of player out of their team in alonso. So maybe he is one of those you don`t miss until they aren`t there.....but a def midfielder (hargreave, mascherano etc) he is not and we have asked him to be one. The fact we have been playing 5 in midfield this season tells you we have no faith in our midfield players to dominate games...too many functional players and not enough specialist/dominante players there.

lisbabylover (Manchester United): This is undeniably the worst most blinkered teamtalk column i've ever read! It was so bad that I felt compled to register to comment to point that out! Carrick has one attribute...his passing but put him under the slightest bit of pressure and he'll play a lousy pass or get caught in possession. It's easy to look good in a team when you've Rooney Ronaldo etc ahead of you but irrespective of who's on the same team as him or who united are against, put any bit of pressure on Carrick and he'll be found out for what he is - the most overrated player in the epl!
