Manchester United to pounce for young Serb defender, the 'new Vidic'

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is set to swoop for 17 year-old Serbian sensation Uros Cosic . The youngster is currently at Russian giants CSKA Moscow and is being touted as potentially better than compatriot Nemaja Vidic, who scored in last night's Premier League clash against Wolves.

CSKA spotted the Serb youngster at Belgrade club Crvena Zvezda and snapped him up earlier this year. At 6ft 1in, Cosic adds a physical presence to an excellent reading of the game. He has been so impressive that CSKA's President Yevgeni Giner has appealed to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to grant the youngster Russian citizenship.

“I must stress that we would like to keep Cosic”, said Giner.

“We even offered him Russian citizenship. It now depends upon the President Medvedev whether it is granted or not."

Giner lavished praise on Cosic and revealed United's interest, “I have not seen such a great central defender before, not to mention that he is only 17.

“But Manchester United would also love to have him.

“They have already made several attempts to approach me about him, asking if I was ready to negotiate.

“They can see - the boy is going to grow into a bigger star than Vidic.”
