Default Re: FIFA's Ballon d'Or 2015 & 2016

Cristiano Ronaldo should win the Ballon d'Or for his 'wonderful year', according to his former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson

* Sir Alex Ferguson signed Cristiano Ronaldo aged 18 for Manchester United
* Now at Real Madrid, Ronaldo has gone on to win three Ballon D'Ors
* In 2016 he won the Champions League with Real and Euros with Portugal
* Ferguson: 'I cannot think of anyone better to lift the Ballon d'Or trophy'

Of all the people who can claim credit for the extraordinary success of Cristiano Ronaldo's career, Sir Alex Ferguson can take a greater share than most.

Ferguson signed the 18-year-old Ronaldo in 2003 from Sporting Lisbon for Manchester United, and helped transform him into the world-beating 'CR7' known today.

Now 31, Ronaldo has won three Ballon d'Or trophies – including his first, in 2008 while still at United – and Fergie has backed the Portuguese forward to pick up another one this year.

Sir Alex Ferguson believes there is 'no-one better than Cristiano Ronaldo for the Ballon D'Or'

He told Marca: 'Cristiano's achievements are unsurpassed, he has had a wonderful year. I cannot think of anyone better to lift the Ballon d'Or trophy.

'He won both the Champions League with Real Madrid and captained Portugal at Euro 2016 where, despite having to miss the end of the final through injury, he was on the sideline cheering on his team-mates, such was his desire to lift the trophy. It was wonderful.

'One of the moments when I feel most proud is the thought that Manchester United played a role in his career and we wish him well.'

Ferguson's quotes are plastered across the front page of the Madrid-centric sports paper, under the headline 'No-one better than Cristiano for the Ballon D'Or'.
