Manchester United yet to offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a permanent deal... as interim boss and Mike Phelan remain in the dark over their futures

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned Manchester United's fortunes around
* The 46-year-old club legend was appointed interim manager in December
* He and Mike Phelan have yet to receive confirmation of United's decision

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still in the dark over his future at Manchester United.

The Old Trafford hierarchy are ready to appoint Solskjaer on a permanent basis after seeing him stage a remarkable turnaround at the club since taking over as caretaker manager in December.

But the 46-year-old Norwegian and his No 2 Mike Phelan have yet to receive confirmation of United's decision as they look to plan ahead for next season.

It's understood that Phelan will return to Australia during next week's international break in his role as sporting director for Central Coast Mariners.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer's contract at Molde was torn up when he returned to Old Trafford on a short-team deal until the end of the season, and he is still waiting for United to extend it.

The club would also have to pay Molde £500,000 in compensation as part of the loan agreement.

Solskjaer has repeatedly answered questions about his future by saying that he will continue to focus on his job until United make a decision, and that genuinely seems to be the case despite a clamour for his appointment from players and fans.

He has been involved in long-term planning over the club's summer tour - which begins in Perth in Australia in July and is also likely to take in Singapore and China - as well discussions about possible transfers.

But any potential new signings will want to know who is in charge next season, as will United players in talks over new contracts like David de Gea and Marcus Rashford.

Solskjaer is aiming to guide United into the semi-finals of the FA Cup when they face Wolves at Molineux on Saturday. Ander Herrera is hopeful of returning after a hamstring injury, although Romelu Lukaku has been ruled out.

United will also discover their opponents in the quarter-finals - and potentially semi-finals - of the Champions League on Friday when they go into the pot with Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham.

UEFA announced on Thursday that United will have to reverse their fixture and play away if they are drawn at home on the same night or consecutive nights as City in either round.

Police and safety officials do not want to stage two big games in Manchester in the same week, and United must switch their fixture under competition rules because they finished below City in the Premier League last season.
