Three nations bid to host 2015, 2017 Nations Cup
Soccernet - October 4, 2010

South Africa, Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo have submitted bids to host the 2015 and 2017 African Nations Cups, the continent's governing body has confirmed.

Last week, 2010 World Cup hosts South Africa confirmed its interest in hosting the event after Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in 2012 and Libya in 2013.

And the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the three nations all met the September 30 deadline to submit their bid documents.

"The CAF announces the closure of the application of bids for the hosting rights for the 2015 and 2017 Orange Africa Cup of Nations," a statement from the football body read.

"The deadline for the submission of applications of the two tournaments was Friday, September 30, 2010 at midnight.

"The CAF Administration has registered the following three (three) applications from its Member Associations: DR Congo, Morocco and South Africa."

CAF will meet next year to decide who will host the two competitions.

The statement added: "The hosting rights for the 30th and 31st editions of the continent's showpiece football event will be determined by the CAF executive committee at a meeting to be decided at a later date in 2011."

DR Congo will be bidding to host the 16-team tournament for the first time in its history, while the tournament has been held once each in Morocco (1988) and South Africa (1996).
