David Beckham 'pumps another £11.2m into Inter Miami' as he increases stake with significant investment in MLS franchise ahead of second season

* David Beckham has invested another £11.2m into Inter Miami, say reports

* Beckham recently hired ex-England women's coach Phil Neville as head coach

David Beckham has invested an additional £11.2million into his MLS club Inter Miami in order to continue the development of his franchise, according to reports.

Former England captain Beckham launched his team in 2020 with the Herons taking part in last season's American top-flight and reaching the play-off preliminary rounds.

The club is set to embark on its second season as a professional club in the upcoming 2021 MLS season, which is planned to start in March despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

And according to The Sun, Beckham has increased his stake in the Miami club by putting his own money in to improve the side ahead of the upcoming season.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid footballer oversaw the major signings of Juventus duo Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuain last year in what have been the most high-profile acquisition since Inter Miami was founded.

Inter Miami are also in talks with Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross over a potential deal ahead of the 2021 season.

In early 2021, Beckham hired former United team-mate and close friend Phil Neville and the Herons' head coach after former coach Diego Alonso was relieved of his duties.

Alonso guided Inter Miami to the MLS play-off preliminary round last season via a tenth-placed finish in the Eastern Conference, though the Herons lost to Nashville SC to dash their hopes.

Neville was managing the England women's national team at the time of his appointment to the MLS side, though was planning to leave his former role in July of this year anyway.

Beckham was forced to come out and defend Neville's appointment after critics accused him of favouring his friend over other potential candidates.

The Inter Miami owner told a press conference last month: 'Of course, people are always going to turn around and say, "Oh, it's because he's your friend."

'It's nothing to do with him being my friend. Our ownership group doesn't just employ our friends.

'We employ the best people, whether it's on the field, off the field, in our backroom staff, the staff that we have working in our training facility, at the stadium.

'We are running a serious soccer club here. And I think at the end of the day, we hire people that we feel are best suited for the job.'
