Zlatan Ibrahimovic Signs 1-Year Contract Extension with PSG

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paris Saint-Germain have agreed on a one-year contract extension that will keep the striker with the big-spending French club through June 2016.

The club announced the new deal on its official site and passed along comments from both the veteran superstar and president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Ibrahimovic said he hopes PSG are the final big club he plays for:

Quote:
I don't see a more ambitious club in Europe than Paris Saint-Germain. My wish is that Paris Saint-Germain is my last big Club. This Club is like me: the dream is never big enough.
Al-Khelaifi was happy the club's star striker was interested in staying at the Parc des Princes:

Quote:
The desire of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, one of the best players in the world, to leave a long and lasting legacy at Paris Saint-Germain is a very strong sign. Together, we share the same ambition, to take the Club to the summits of the European game.
The 31-year-old Swedish international joined PSG from AC Milan last summer. He made his presence felt immediately, as he tallied 30 goals in 34 Ligue 1 matches, helping lead the club to the championship in dominating fashion.

Capturing the French title was the first major step for PSG, and it has now extended to European success. They got their Champions League campaign off to a strong start last week with a 4-1 romp over Olympiakos.

With Edinson Cavani now in the fold to take some pressure off Ibrahimovic on the attack, PSG look potent moving forward and have an equally impressive defensive group, headlined by Thiago Silva.

In other words, the pieces are starting to fall into place. Extending Ibrahimovic for an extra season should help ensure the side's Champions League window stays open through at least 2016. That's especially true if they keep adding top-end talent around him.

Since he hasn't shown any signs of slowing down, there's little risk involved with giving him an extension. Anything less than elite production during the length of the deal would be a surprise.

PSG can now look forward to an extra season of Ibrahimovic scoring goals at a rapid rate.
