Moffatt off to Alty

United defender Scott Moffatt has joined Blue Square Premier side (and United Reserves’ landlords) Altrincham on a one-month loan deal.
Moffatt, 18, signed professional forms at Old Trafford in the summer after two injury-plagued years as a trainee. The Openshaw-born right-back managed just eighteen games in his first year with the academy and was even more unlucky last year, a persistent knee injury limiting him to just eight appearances for Paul McGuinness’ Under-18 side.
Nonetheless, Scott did enough to earn a professional contract and had started this season with the reserves, featuring in three games during pre-season (including the Reds’ win over Altrincham at the start of August) and making a competitive second string debut at Moss Lane last Thursday in the 5-0 Manchester Senior Cup thrashing of Bury, even chipping in with a rare goal.
Today he was back at that venue, firstly to complete his month-long switch to Altrincham and secondly to make his debut for the Robins, as they took on Chester City in a Bank Holiday clash. With Alty short on players, boss Graham Heathcote handed Scott the number 22 shirt and a starting berth as the two Cheshire sides drew 1-1 (more on that in our weekend loan roundup later on). A further seven BSP games are scheduled to take place in the next month, so this loan spell should offer Scott invaluable senior experience.
