Default Re: Frenkie de Jong

Man United officials 'will fly to Barcelona in a final attempt to sign Frenkie de Jong and are convinced a deal CAN be done'... with Erik ten Hag still desperate to sign him despite landing £70m Casemiro

* Reports in Holland suggest Man United are still trying to sign Frenkie de Jong
* Erik ten Hag has long made it clear that De Jong is a key target for his midfield
* Now United are said to be making a final assault, despite securing Casemiro
* Barca are keen to offload the midfielder amid their documented financial issues
* United have never given up on De Jong but have moved for other targets

Manchester United have not given up on signing Frenkie de Jong - and fresh reports from Holland and Spain suggest club officials will fly to Barcelona in a last-ditch attempt to get a deal over the line.

United grew frustrated in their summer-long pursuit of the Barca midfielder, Erik ten Hag's No 1 target, but remain convinced there is a chance they will be able to strike a deal in the final week of the transfer window.

United's £70million signing of Casemiro reduced their need to sign a midfielder, however Ten Hag has expressed his desire for de Jong to reunite with him at Old Trafford after their time together at Ajax.

Man United officials are now planning to fly out to Catalonia in order to seal the transfer ahead of the transfer window closure in a few weeks, according to Catalan outlet Sport.

The meeting is due to take place this week, with Barca officials eager to agree a deal with United in order to get the Dutchman off the wage bill.

Ten Hag has persuaded the United hierarchy to loosen the purse strings in order to acquire de Jong after the Dutch manager held positive talks with his former player, according to Dutch publication Telegraaf.

Barcelona are keen to offload de Jong amid their well-documented financial issues, with the Spanish giants demanding that the Dutchman either reduces his salary or departs the Camp Nou.

The 25-year-old is already owed £17million in amortisations and back payments by the Blaugrana, with his future unlikely to be resolved until that matter is worked out.

Man United remain interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer. United transfer chiefs are set to fly out to Catalonia in order to strike a deal for the Dutchman. Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is insistent on bringing de Jong to Old Trafford in this window

The midfielder featured in Barca's 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad on Sunday, but is viewed as dispensable due to their engine room depth.

The Red Devils had a reported deal in place with de Jong, however it expired as the two club's were unable to reach an agreement.

The pair enjoyed an extremely successful relationship together at the Amsterdam Arena as they reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2018-19.

The Red Devils' much-maligned midfield issues have been clear for all to see in their opening Premier League defeats to Brentford and Brighton.

The £70m addition of Casemiro will go a long way in shoring up the United engine room, yet the Red Devils have maintained their interest in the midfielder as they continue to back new boss ten Hag.

Premier League rivals Chelsea were confident that they will be able to strike a deal with de Jong under the noses of the Red Devils, but their interest appears to have cooled.

The Blues are able to offer the 25-year-old Champions League football this season, while ten Hag's outfit will only be competing in the Europa League.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether officials will be able to convince de Jong to reunite with his former manager at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag 'has asked Manchester United chiefs to renew efforts to land Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona', with Dutchman insisting he 'still lacks quality in the middle of the park'... but Holland international's 'priority' is to stay at the Nou Camp

* Manchester United are continuing to target Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong
* The Red Devils agreed a fee for the Barcelona midfielder during the summer
* However, De Jong was reluctant to depart the Nou Camp and remained in Spain
* Ten Hag reportedly sees De Jong as crucial to take United to the next level

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will try and push the club to make another attempt to sign Frenkie de Jong in January, according to reports.

The Red Devils pursued the Barcelona midfielder throughout the summer transfer window but were unable to get the deal over the line.

It looked like the move had been done at one point after United agreed a £63million fee with Barcelona.

But De Jong’s reluctance to leave the Nou Camp, along with significant complications with the Spanish giant’s finances including disputes over unpaid wages to the Dutchman, meant the move failed to happen.

De Jong was reportedly unwilling to move to a club not in the Champions League, with Ten Hag’s side competing in the Europa League this season.

However, according to Spanish outlet Sport, the United boss has asked the club to make another attempt to sign the playmaker in January.

It is believed although promising progress has been made by the Red Devils following their disastrous start to the campaign that saw them endure damaging defeats against Brighton and Brentford, Ten Hag believes he lacks quality in midfield.

Manchester United will make another move to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. United boss Erik ten Hag reportedly sees De Jong as a potential difference-maker to his squad. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen both joined the club in the summer and have begun their Old Trafford careers well but Dutch midfielder De Jong is seen as a different type of player

Despite the signings of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, both who have endured bright starts at the club, De Jong is seen as a different type of player by Ten Hag - and one he wants.

The report states that De Jong is viewed as someone who can improve United's creativity and control within games - a point that Ten Hag believes is necessary if the club are going to compete for titles again.

However, like in the summer, the struggle for Ten Hag, who managed De Jong at Ajax, will be convincing the midfielder to leave Barcelona.

Finances are not thought to be an issue, but De Jong has previously highlighted his reluctance to leave the Catalan giants.

United's hopes will be raised by the fact Barcelona are almost certain to be eliminated from the Champions League.

Similarly, with De Jong's lack of gametime - the Dutchman has made just five starts in all competitions so far this season, the Red Devils will fancy their chances of convincing the midfielder to make the move.

Nevertheless, it is expected that De Jong will want to stay at the club until at least the summer, while Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also likely to rival United for his signature.

Default Re: Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong 'has told Erik ten Hag he DOES want to join Manchester United after the Red Devils turned their season around' in a shock U-turn - but Barcelona 'are FURIOUS after he refused to leave last summer during their financial crisis'

* Frenkie de Jong has reportedly told Erik ten Hag he wants to leave Barcelona
* The midfielder was linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer
* De Jong opted to stay at Barcelona despite the club's financial struggles
* The 25-year-old's decision to move now has reportedly angered the Catalan club

Frenkie de Jong has reportedly told Erik ten Hag he wants to move to Manchester United after completing a remarkable U-turn.

According to Fichajes, De Jong has had conversations over the phone with the United boss where he declared his desire to move to the Red Devils.

The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move to United in the summer but opted to stay at Barcelona.

Barcelona made no secret of their financial struggles in the summer and their decision to try and shift De Jong.

Barcelona made no secret of their financial struggles in the summer and their decision to try and shift De Jong.

Frenkie de Jong has reportedly told Erik ten Hag he wants to move to Manchester United. De Jong's desire to leave now instead of last summer has reportedly angered Barcelona bosses. Ten Hag made De Jong a priority in the summer and may be able to finally get the midfielder

Speaking at a press conference in the summer, De Jong said: 'Chelsea and Man United interest? I already decided in May that I wanted to stay at Barcelona. I never changed this decision during the summer.'

However, according to the report, De Jong has gone back on his decision since making those comments.

Fichajes say that this sudden change of heart has angered Barcelona bosses after his refusal to make the move when they most needed it.

Despite not getting off to a great start, Manchester United have started to pick up form under their new boss Ten Hag.

United currently occupy a Champions League position and this could be of interest to the Holland midfielder.

The possible addition of De Jong could inspire United to kick on even more as they take on the second-half of the season.

The Red Devils play Bournemouth in their next league game as they look to continue to climb the Premier League table.
