Seedorf 100, Inzaghi 63
detikSport - 05/12/2007 06:18 WIB

Bravo, Milan!

Giggs joins centurions

Ryan Giggs has become only the eighth player to make 100 Champions League appearances after captaining the Reds in Wednesday night’s draw with Lyon, and Sir Alex Ferguson admits everyone at United is proud of the veteran winger.

The 34-year-old was presented with a silver salver before United's last 16 clash after following in the footsteps of Raul, Roberto Carlos, Paolo Maldini, David Beckham, Oliver Kahn, Luis Figo and Clarence Seedorf in passing the century mark.

“There are only a few players who will reach that milestone in European football,” admitted Sir Alex. “It’s because of his ability, his longevity, how he prepares himself to have a good lifestyle, and obviously being at a successful club.

“For me, Ryan has been an absolute model in his time with us. Even at 34 years of age we expect big, big things of him. Obviously we don’t play him in every game, but that’s natural for someone of that age. We want to play him in the games that really, really matter to our football club.

“Throughout his time with us, Ryan has always reserved his best performances for the biggest occasions. I’ve said many times about occasions at Old Trafford and the atmosphere, and the great nights we’ve had there. They could only happen because the right type of players are playing on that stage, and Ryan has produced many great moments for us. So it’s a great occasion for him, we’re all proud of him.”

Patrice Evra started behind Giggs on United’s left side at the Stade Gerland, and the French defender admits he is delighted for his team-mate to join such an exclusive club.

“I think it is a privilege to play with Ryan Giggs,” he said. “For me I just say thanks to Giggsy because I’ve learnt a lot of things with him, he’s a great player and I’m very happy for him.”

Giggs is likely to have familiar company in the 100 club sooner rather than later, with Paul Scholes having joined Gary Neville on 98 appearances after starting against Lyon.

Default Re: Serba-serbi UEFA Champions League

50 historical facts of UEFA Champions League
theNATION - 11/09/09

We serve you fifty historical facts since the inception of the Champions League, the most glamourous club competition in Europe.

•Marseille was the first club to lift the European trophy since its conversion to the Champions League format in 1993.

•No English club won the Champions League title (in its new format) until Manchester United.

•Milan, Liverpool, Ajax and Manchester United are the only teams to have won the trophy unbeaten twice

•Only two clubs have appeared in the final of the European Cup/Champions league more than once, with a 100% success rate: Nottingham Forest in 1979 and 1980, and Porto in 1987 and 2004.

•Five clubs have appeared in the final once, being victorious on that occasion: Feyenoord (1970), Aston Villa F.C (1982), PSV (1988), Red Star Belgrade (1991) and Borussia Dortmund (1997).

•Only two clubs have appeared in the final more than once, losing on each occasion: Stade Reims in 1956 and 1959, and Valencia in 2000 and 2001.

•Only Celtic has completed the ‘quadruple’ - which means that they have won their domestic league championship, their primary & secondary domestic cups, and the Champions League/European Cup. The Bhoys did it in the 1966-67 season.

•Five sides have won the European Cup as part of a ‘treble’? These were Ajax, PSV, Manchester United, Barcelona, and Liverpool.

•Juventus, Ajax and Bayern Munich are the only teams to have won the three major UEFA official Cups, namely UEFA Champions League/European Cup, the now defunct UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, and UEFA Cup.

•Nottingham Forest are the only club to have won the European Cup more times (twice) than they have won their domestic league (once). Forest won the English League in 1978 before winning the European Cup in 1979 and defending it in 1980.

•Newcastle United in 2002-03 are the only team to have progressed past the group stage after losing their first three games.

•Arsenal broke the record for the most consecutive clean sheets in 2006 with ten shut-outs. They went without conceding a goal for 995 minutes between September 2005 and May 2006.

•AC Milan are the last team to successfully defend the European title, winning it in both 1989 and 1990.

•Only on three occasions has the Final of the Champions Cup/League involved two teams from the same country? They were Real Madrid versus Valencia in 2000, AC Milan vs. Juventus in 2003, and Manchester United vs Chelsea in 2008.

The country providing the highest number of different winning clubs is England, with four. They are Liverpool, Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.

England has also provided the highest number of different finalists, with seven (Liverpool, Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Aston villa, Leeds United, Arsenal and Chelsea).

•The city of Milan is the only one that won the Champions Cup with two different teams? Internazionale and AC Milan have both won the European Cup/Champions League.

•The city of London is the only one that has been represented by more than one team in the final of the Champions League and lost on each occasion (Arsenal in 2006 and Chelsea in 2008).

•The 2002-03 semi-final between bitter city rivals AC Milan and Internazionale was the first time both games of a two-legged tie were played in the same stadium. Both legs were played at the San Siro.

•Clarence Seedorf is the only player to win the Champions Cup with three different teams. The Dutchman won them with Ajax in 1994/95, Real Madrid 1997/98, and AC Milan in 2002/03 and 2006/07.

•Bob Paisley is the only man to coach three Champions Cup-winning sides in 1977, 1978 and 1981. It has to be noted that he won them all with Liverpool.

•Marcello Lippi is the only man to coach four Champions League finalists in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2003. Juventus was the team in all four occasions.

•Hernan Crespo is the only player to have scored for five different teams in the competition. The teams were Parma, Lazio, Inter Milan, Chelsea and AC Milan.

•The fastest ever Champions League goal was scored after 10 seconds by Bayern Munich’s Roy Makaay against Real Madrid in 2007.

•The fastest ever Champions League hat-trick was scored in just nine minutes by Blackburn’s Mike Newell against Rosenborg in the 1995/96 season.

•England have been represented in the Champions League final for five consecutive season, with Liverpool (winners 2005), Arsenal (runners-up 2006), Liverpool (runners-up 2007), (runners-up 2008) and Manchester United (winners in 2008 and runners-up in 2009).

•Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola is only the sixth man to win the European Cup as player and coach and only the third to do so with the same club following Munoz (Real Madrid player 1956, and 1957 and coach 1960 and 1966) and Carlo Ancelotti (Milan player 1989 and 1990 and coach 2003)? Pep won it as a player in 1992.

•Didier Drogba is the only non-European by nationality to be in the top-ten all-time top-scorers (in the new Champions League format).

Seven players have made more than 100 Champions League appearances with a single club. They are Alessandro Del Piero of Juventus, Raúl of Real Madrid, Paolo Maldini of Milan, Oliver Kahn of Bayern Munich, and Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville of Manchester United.

•Only three players have won the Champions League in two consecutive seasons with two different teams. They are Marcel Desailly with Marseille in 1992/93 and Milan in 1993/94, Paulo Sousa with Juventus in 1995/96 and Borussia Dortmund in 1996/97, and Gerard Piqué with Manchester United in 2007/08 and Barcelona in 2008/09.

•Only two father-son duos have skippered the same club to victory in Champions League. They are the dynamic duos of Manuel Sanchís Martínez (1966) and Manuel Sanchís Hontiyuelo (1998 and 2000), both for Real Madrid, as well as Cesare Maldini (1963) and Paolo Maldini (2003 and 2007), both for AC Milan.

Ryan Giggs is the only player to score in 13 different Champions League seasons.

The record for the longest unbeaten run stands at 25 games held by Manchester United. The run began with a 1-0 away win against Sporting CP in their opening group stage game in 2007/08 and finished with 3-1 away win against Arsenal in the second leg of the semi-final in 2008/09. The Red Devils had their 25-game unbeaten streak broken with a 2-0 loss to Barcelona in the final.

•The first player born in the 1990s to score in the Champions League is Bojan, playing for Barcelona on 1 April 2008. Record-breaking Inzaghi revels in Milan feats
Soccernet - November 4, 2010

Filippo Inzaghi reached three goalscoring milestones in one match with a brace in AC Milan's 2-2 Champions League draw with Real Madrid at the San Siro on Wednesday night.

The 37-year-old came off the bench to help the hosts overturn a 1-0 deficit only for Pedro Leon's injury-time equaliser to earn the Spaniards a draw. The result left Milan in second place in Group G, a point ahead of Ajax and five behind Madrid.

It was still a night to savour for Inzaghi, though, who became the record scorer in European competition with 70 goals - beating the 69 of Raul and Gerd Muller - overtook Marco van Basten in Milan's all-time scoring charts by moving onto 125 for the club and moved ahead of Andriy Shevchenko as the Rossoneri's leading scorer in Europe with 40.

"I'm very happy, it's a great evening for me,'' the former Juventus striker told Milan's official website.

"Setting this record at the San Siro in front of my supporters has always been one of my dreams. Now a phase of my 20-year career comes to an end, although the equaliser at the end of the match spoiled the night a little bit.

"I give credit to the supporters for (the records), their cheering gave me an incredible lift when I stood up from the bench. When I'm at the San Siro, all the joyful moments I've spent wearing the Milan shirt come to my mind. I knew I was ready to play, I feel in great shape, but in the end the result left me a bit disappointed, even though I scored twice from two shots.

"With this brace I overtook Shevchenko as the most prolific Milan player in European club competitions. I also overtook Gerd Muller and Van Basten. I want to thank everyone who has been close to me, my family, my brother, my girlfriend.''

Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri praised his striker. "Pippo is a great player, I'm happy for him,'' he said. "He played half an hour of intense football. It didn't surprise me. I'm sorry for leaving him out of the line-up, but I know I can always count on him.''

Champions League-winning players but no winning team?
"Which country, which has not produced a Champions League winning team, has the most players with winners' medals?"

The Knowledge is never one to shirk a statistical challenge, so we've trawled through 54 years of European competition to come up with a definitive list, one full of exciting quiz-question potential: Who is the only Belgian to win the European Cup? How many Polish goalkeepers have won it? The possibilities are endless. Perhaps unsurprisingly Brazil have provided the most European Cup winners, while of the countries who could potentially provide a Champions League-winning team the Republic of Ireland has proven the most fertile soil.

(In the interests of not-entirely-losing-our-minds we've included here only players in the winning final squads. Which is why Roy Keane isn't in here. And nor is Austria's Wolfgang Feiersinger, who helped Dortmund to the final in 1997. You can check out a very incomplete list of winners here. If you really want.)

Default Re: Serba-serbi UEFA Champions League

Dua gol Messi ke gawang Ajax tadi pagi, menjadikan pundi2 golnya di UCL menyamai jumlah gol legenda Madrid, Raul Gonzales Blanco, and still counting tuh ...
(Kali ini persaingan ama Ronaldo, yg s.d. saat ini terpaut 1 gol)

Jika Raul mencapai raihan tsb setelah bermain 140 kali, maka Messi hanya membutuhkan 90 match saja.

Luiz Adriano (Shakhtar Donetsk) is the third player to score two hat-tricks in the same #UCL season, after Lionel Messi & Mario Gomez (both 2011/12).
