Scott McTominay has returned to Scotland's squad for their crucial World Cup qualifiers with Israel and the Faroe Islands.

The Manchester United midfielder needed groin surgery last month which forced him to miss the wins against Moldova and Austria.

He returned for United's 2-1 win at West Ham and also started Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Southampton's Stuart Armstrong is also in the squad having pulled out through injury ahead of September's 2-0 loss to Denmark.

Rangers goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin replaces Zander Clark in Steve Clarke's squad and Callum McGregor is also included despite missing Celtic's last four games through injury. Club team-mates James Forrest and Greg Taylor miss out due to injury.

Scotland are second in Group F, four points clear of Austria and one point above next opponents Israel with the play-off spot in their own hands.

They host Israel on October 9 and visit the Faroes three days later.

Clarke said: 'It's good to get as many of your better players in the squad as possible.

'Scott (McTominay) is certainly one of those so it is good to have him back.'

Clarke added: 'When you name a squad there is still 11 days until match day so plenty of time, a couple of games.

'Callum (McGregor) is in that situation, Stuart Armstrong is in a similar situation but I am hoping that they will both get some minutes over the next couple of games and be fit and available to join the squad.

'The medical staff have been in constant touch, we know where the players are at and as always we will treat them as well as we can.'

The former Kilmarnock and West Brom boss was also pleased that the new member of his backroom staff, Austin MacPhee, the set-piece coach for Aston Villa, will finally join the squad after missing the last camp with Covid-19 issues.

He said: 'Austin has recovered from Covid thankfully, so he will join us for the first time.

'He will bring something different to the staff, fresh ideas, which is good. As a coach, I always like to be challenged, I like to challenge the players so Austin will do that, he will bring in something different.

'Steven Naismith jumped in at the last minute to help out in the last camp and I have decided to keep Steven on the staff for this camp as well, he is a good conduit between myself and the players and obviously I have my trusted side-kick John Carver who does a great job for us.'

FOUR REDS NAMED IN BRAZIL'S WORLD CUP SQUAD

Manchester United’s Casemiro, Fred, Antony and Alex Telles have made Brazil’s 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Telles is currently on loan at Spanish side Sevilla, while Casemiro, Fred and Antony have all played key roles for Erik ten Hag’s Reds this term.

Brazil’s national-team boss Tite was at Old Trafford for United’s 1-0 triumph against West Ham recently, in which Casemiro started and Fred came off the bench.

The duo have both been selected in the final squad for the World Cup, with Antony and Telles also on the plane, even though the former has been out of late due to injury.

Casemiro and Antony both arrived at United in the summer, from Real Madrid and Ajax respectively, and the pair have certainly made an impact at Old Trafford.

Antony became the first-ever Red to notch in his first three Premier League fixtures, while Casemiro has emerged a lynch-pin at the heart of our midfield, winning Player of the Month for October.

Fred has continued to be a key member of our squad this term, while Telles has started regularly in Seville.

Brazil’s squad also includes the likes of Neymar, Vinicius Jr and Thiago Silva, to name a few, while Arsenal attacker Gabriel Jesus has made the cut.

BRAZIL SQUAD

Alisson, Ederson, Weverton, D. Alves, Danilo, Alex Sandro, Alex Telles, Bremer, Militao, Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Casemiro, Ribeiro, B.Guimaraes, Fabinho, Fred, Paqueta, Antony, G.Jesus, G.Martinelli, Neymar, Pedro, Raphinha, Rodrygo, Richarlison, Vinicius Jnr.

WHICH REDS HAVE MADE ENGLAND'S SQUAD?

England's squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar has been released, and we're pleased to say that three Reds are represented in Gareth Southgate's selection.

Defenders Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, plus forward Marcus Rashford, will travel to the Middle East with the Three Lions, as England take on Iran, the USA and Wales in Group B of the competition.

All three Reds represented their country at Euro 2020, where England made it all the way to the final before suffering penalty heartbreak at Wembley against Italy.

It's also a second World Cup for each player, with Maguire and Rashford selected by Southgate in Russia four years ago, while Shaw was the youngest player at the 2014 tournament, aged just 18.

Jadon Sancho has not been included, while Southgate has also opted not to pick Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan with Nottingham Forest.

Nine Reds are now confirmed as going to the tournament, with Brazil best represented - Alex Telles, Antony, Casemiro and Fred are in Tite's squad.

Christian Eriksen has been picked as part of Denmark's provisional side, while Raphael Varane has made it into Didier Deschamps' France selection, despite missing recent weeks through injury.

The inclusion of Maguire, Rashford and Shaw for England maintains a long run of United players representing the Three Lions at the planet's most prestigious international tournament.

England have now qualified for 16 editions of the competition, choosing at least one Red in every single squad.

ENGLAND'S FULL SQUAD

Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Coady, Eric Dier, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker, Ben White; Jude Bellingham, Conor Gallagher, Jordan Henderson, Mason Mount, Kalvin Phillips, Declan Rice; Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, James Maddison, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, Callum Wilson.

GROUP B FIXTURES

21 November (13:00 GMT): England v Iran
25 November (19:00 GMT): England v USA
29 November (19:00 GMT): Wales v England
