Former Manchester United and Newcastle midfielder Keith Gillespie declared bankrupt



Former Northern Ireland international Keith Gillespie has been declared bankrupt.

The former Manchester United and Newcastle United midfielder, 35, has been served with a creditor's petition and was listed in an official receiver bankruptcy notice published on Friday.

He played last season with Glentoran in the Irish Premiership and is one of Northern Ireland's most capped players with 86 appearances since his debut in 1994.

A Revenue and Customs spokesman confirmed it had taken action against Gillespie, who has an address in Bangor, Co Down, over a tax bill.

He refused to say how much was owed.

Gillespie was a member of Manchester United's 1992 FA Youth Cup winning team and represented the Red Devils until 1995 when he moved to Newcastle.

Ex-Man Utd midfielder Butt ready to end retirement for Hong Kong move

Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt is in Hong Kong for talks with South China FC.

Butt, who called time on a career that also included stints at Newcastle and Birmingham City in May, will arrive in the territory later this month and will feature in South China's league game against TSW Pegasus before deciding whether to remain with the club until the end of the season.

"I wanted some time out of the game to concentrate on my next step either in or out of football. However I feel fit and when South China FC approached me to join them for a week's training and a game, the prospect excited me," said the 35-year-old former England international.

"I could see from their team and commitment to the game that this was something I wanted to be a part of. I have been to China many times with Manchester United and England and the reception we received was always unbelievable.

"The development and growth of Asian football since 2002 has been phenomenal and can be seen from the influence of Asian players in the Premiership. I am really looking forward to this new experience and the challenges it will bring."

Chairman Steven Lo believes the acquisition of Butt could help South China capture next year's AFC Cup, the Asian version of the Europa League. South China reached the semi-finals in 2009 before losing to eventual winners Kuwait SC.

"Everyone is excited by Nicky's arrival and the knowledge and experience he can bring to the team," he said.

"We are always looking to attract talent to strengthen our squad and this demonstrates our commitment to that. Nicky's records internationally and domestically speak for themselves and I am sure he will receive a fantastic reception when he arrives at Hong Kong Stadium.

"I myself am also excited to meet Nicky and discuss with him the about playing South China for the remainder of the season, including in the AFC Cup, which is always our goal to win."

Liverpool eye Ryan Shawcross as Daniel Agger warns he won't be forced out



Ryan Shawcross has emerged as a target for Liverpool - as Daniel Agger warned he will not be forced out of Anfield.

Shawcross, 23, has been watched repeatedly by Liverpool scouts in recent weeks, after Jamie Carragher joined Agger on the injury list, but Manchester United have first option to sign the Stoke skipper.

Agger, meanwhile, has been linked with Inter Milan and Wolfsburg and has not seen eye to eye with boss Roy Hodgson.

But the Dane is intent on staying at Anfield, saying: 'Liverpool can't force me out of the club even if they want to as I have got four years left on my contract. I expect Roy Hodgson to have the guts to tell me face to face if he doesn't want me.'

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA - Bandung FC terus memperkuat skuadnya menjelang mengikuti Liga Primer Indonesia (LPI) yang akan bergulir, 8 Januari 2011. Salah satunya adalah dengan berupaya mendatangkan marquee player mantan gelandang AC Milan dan Manchester United, Jesper Blomqvist.

CEO Bandung FC M Kusnaeni di sela-sela launching LPI di Hotel Kempinski, Grand Indonesia, Rabu (22/12) malam, membenarkan kabar itu. Menurut Kusnaeni, pihaknya telah menjalin komunikasi dengan Blomqvist, yang pernah mengantar Swedia menjadi juara ketiga Piala Dunia 1994.

"Kami sudah beberapa kali berkomunikasi melalui email. Intinya Blomqvist sudah bersedia untuk bermain di Bandung FC. Sekarang, kami tinggal menunggu kedatangan dia di Indonesia," ungkap M Kusnaeni.

Kusnaeni sendiri masih belum bisa memastikan apakah Blomqvist sudah bisa memperkuat Bandung FC, saat LPI 2011 bergulir, 8 Januari mendatang.

"Kita lihat saja. Kami sih maunya begitu. Intinya, kalau dia datang dan sepakat, maka kami akan langsung kontrak dia," tutur M Kusnaeni.

M Kusnaeni menjelaskan, kehadiran Blomqvist jelas akan membawa suasana positif bagi Bandung FC. Sebelumnya, Bandung FC sudah mengontrak mantan pemain timnas U-20 Korea Elatan, Kim Sang-duk. Dari jajaran pemain lokal, Bandung FC sudah mengikat kontrak beberapa pemain senior seperti Nuralim, Yaris Riyadi, Kurnia Sandi, Deden Hermawan, Egi Nirwan, Asep Gunawan, Asep Mulyawan, dan Caesar. Bangkrut ? Wah lebih baik dia ke Indonesia karena sebagai mantan pemain Manchester United, dia memiliki beberapa peluang di Indonesia. Diantaranya :

1. Menjadi bintang tamu acara "meet n greet" dengan komunitas fans Manchester United di Indonesia.
2. Mengadakan coach clinic teknik dasar bermain bola kepada siswa sekolah.
3. Menjadi komentator atau bintang tamu acara tayangan sepakbola di TV (meniru Paul Parker).
4. Menjadi pelatih atau pemain di LPI, hehehe ....
