Man United director of football operations Alan Dawson 'is set to depart the club' after over five years in the role in latest staff change behind the scenes at Old Trafford

* Dawson joined United in 2012 and took on his current role in September 2017
* Reports suggest he will leave his position 'in due course after a special project'
* His responsibilities include travel, security, logistics and the training ground
* It is the latest behind-the-scenes move at Old Trafford in the past few months

Manchester United's director of football operations 'is poised to depart the club' in the latest behind-the-scenes upheaval at Old Trafford.

Alan Dawson MBE, who has occupied the role since September 2017, is set to remain on initially to work on an 'unspecified special project.'

But, according to The Athletic, Dawson will exit the club 'in due course' though this hasn't been fully confirmed.

Dawson initially joined United in April 2012 and served in the posts of Commercial Operations Director, Director of Business Development and Group Operations Director before his current post.

Prior to that he served in the Royal Air Force for 17 years, including three as Squadron Commander.

Manchester United's director of football operations 'is set to leave the club in due course'. Alan Dawson MBE has been in post for over five years and has spent a decade with the club

His responsibilities lie away from the playing side, with a focus on matters such as travel, security, logistics and training ground operations.

It is the latest of several changes in the Old Trafford hierarchy in recent months.

Director of football negotiations Matt Judge resigned earlier this year, with chief strategy officer Hemen Tseayo also departing.

It followed Richard Arnold's appointment as chief executive last January and football director John Murtough being given wider responsibilities.

Incoming staff have included deputy football director Andy O'Boyle, head of women's football Polly Bancroft and director of data science Dominic Jordan.

United were beaten 3-1 at Aston Villa on Sunday to leave them sitting fifth in the Premier League table, some 11 points shy of leaders Arsenal.

They have been drawn to face Barcelona in a Europa League play-off in February after failing to top their group.

Manchester United 'could have new owners BEFORE the end of this season and part ways with the Glazers as early as SPRING next year'... with the American owners continuing to explore an exit from the club

* The Glazer family 'could well sell Manchester United by the end of the season'
* In a statement last week, the Glazers revealed they were open to selling the club
* The American owners bought the club for £790m in 2009 but now want £5bn
* It is understood that the Glazers will sell in the spring if they commit to the sale

Manchester United could well have new owners by the end of the season, according to reports.

The Glazer family, who have owned United since taking over in May 2005, announced last week that they are open to selling the club, having explored 'strategic alternatives' at Old Trafford.

The American owners controversially purchased Manchester United in a leveraged buyout worth £790million and have since lacked popularity amongst several Red Devils supporters.

The Glazers have since amassed debts of over £500m at the club, and their failed attempt to kickstart the European Super League only fuelled more fan protests outside the walls of Old Trafford.

While the Glazers may yet decide to keep Man United and U-turn their decision to sell, the BBC understands that the family would be most likely to agree to a deal by spring next year.

The Americans revealed last week that they would sell the club for no less than £5billion. By comparison, Chelsea's Todd Boehly-led consortium took over at Stamford Bridge last summer for £4.25bn.

US tech giant Apple and Spanish fashion mogul Amancio Ortega have both reportedly flirted with interest already, but they will no doubt have to pay in excess of Manchester United's valuation, which was $3.65bn (£3.05bn) on the New York Stock Exchange at the close of trading on Tuesday.

The Glazer family 'could well sell Manchester United to new owners by the end of the season'. Fans have continually protested against the Glazers since their £790m takeover in May 2005

The owners' decision to sell the club came in the wake of damning comments made by Cristiano Ronaldo during his explosive, tell-all interview with Piers Morgan earlier this month, which shed light on the lack of progress Manchester United had made under the Glazer rule.

The Portuguese superstar claimed that training facilities had barely improved in Manchester since his exit to Real Madrid in 2009, and he criticised the board for hiring interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

With new head coach Erik ten Hag now at the helm, United's new owner will no doubt be tasked with renovating facilities at Old Trafford and Carrington on top of the initial sale price.

Man United doctor Steve McNally will leave the club after SIXTEEN years to start a fresh role at PGMOL, with Dr Jim Moxon set to take over on an interim basis having left rivals Liverpool in August

* Manchester United's doctor Steve McNally is set to leave the club after 16 years
* McNally arrived at Old Trafford in 2006 under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson
* He will step down in January to join PGMOL as a performance support director
* PGMOL is the body in charge of match officials in English professional football

Manchester United's club doctor Steve McNally is to leave the club after 16 years, the club have announced.

McNally will step down at the end of January to start a new role as performance support director at PGMOL, the body responsible for match officials in English football.

He joined United in 2006 and worked with Sir Alex Ferguson for seven seasons, during which the club won the Champions League, the Club World Cup and five Premier League titles.

Following Ferguson’s retirement, McNally stayed on to work successfully with five further permanent managers, including, most recently Erik ten Hag.

McNally will be replaced on an interim basis by Dr Jim Moxon while the club searches for a permanent successor. Moxon, who worked most recently as club doctor for Liverpool, will start working with McNally from this week.

United’s football director John Murtough said: ‘Steve’s contribution over the past 16 years has been immense and I’d like to thank him, on behalf of everyone at Manchester United, for everything he has done on and off the pitch for our players, colleagues and the wider club.

‘Steve was recently presented with the Fabrice Muamba Award for Outstanding Service to Football Medicine & Performance at the North-West Football Awards, which shows how highly he is regarded across the football community.’

McNally said: ‘Leaving Manchester United after 16 years was a very difficult decision but I feel the time is right to step away from frontline provision at club level and utilise my experience in a new strategic role that will allow me to contribute to another vital aspect of the game.

‘Alongside the directors, managers, players, coaches and colleagues from all departments past and present, I am proud to have been a small part of Manchester United’s recent history and thank them all wholeheartedly for their friendship, camaraderie and support.

‘I will miss the United family but until I take up my new post, I remain fully focused on helping all our teams build on the first half of this season, in particular Erik and his staff in preparation for the resumption after the World Cup.’

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville took to Twitter on Thursday and posted: 'Love Doc McNally. He’s given great service to the club and a vital member of the first team for all those years.'

Default Re: Manchester United - News and Rumors

Man United have DITCHED a loyalty-monitoring policy which asked season-ticket holders to tell the club what they were wearing to prove they were at matches... as they admit the move 'landed badly' and caused 'confusion' among fans

* Man United fans had been asked to provide info so they could be identified
* It came after they said they were at matches the club claimed they did not attend
* New rules state season-ticket holders must attend 10 of 19 league games
* Fans threatened with being stripped of their seat if they fail to reach that number

Manchester United have ditched a controversial policy where fans were asked to provide a description of their clothing so they could be identified on CCTV to prove they were at home matches the club claim they did not attend.

Sportsmail revealed United had been requesting supporters who said they were present for Premier League matches against Brighton, Liverpool and Arsenal, but whose tickets did not scan correctly, to tell the club what they had been wearing at those games.

The policy - introduced as part of stricter rules which state season-ticket holders must attend 10 of the 19 home Premier League games, either in person, by transferring their seat to another eligible fan or returning it to the club, or risk being banned from renewing - sparked a significant backlash among United's fanbase.

The affected fans had been told their attendance will not count towards the 10-match rule unless they provide information to the club such as what they were wearing on the day.

United season ticket holders must have their ticket scanned for at least 10 of the 19 home league matches

But the club have now confirmed they will 'not be asking fans for this again' in an email issued to season-ticket holders on Tuesday, seen by Sportsmail. United also accept they 'understand' how the policy 'could have landed badly', but said they may still ask for photo ID in some cases.

'To help fans keep track of their attendance, we emailed season ticket holders after the first three matches highlighting what our data told us and several of you informed us our records were incorrect,' the club wrote in the email.

United have u-turned on the policy in an email sent to season-ticket holders and members. Some supporters received an email from the club asking them to show what they were wearing. The email was sent by United's ticket office in October to those who insisted they did attend certain matches

'As checking for attendance on CCTV is a manual process, our teams were looking for something visible to help speed up the process of identification and some fans were asked if they could provide details of what they were wearing.

'We understand how that could have landed badly and for clarity we will not be asking fans this again. In future if issues arise, we may ask for a copy of your photo ID to help verify attendance and keep records accurate.'

Fans had expressed concern over the season-ticket rule itself, which was devised in consultation with fan groups to ensure seats at Old Trafford are not wasted - particularly given the tendency from the Premier League and other bodies to reschedule matches at short notice and the cost of living crisis.

United are one of the few clubs in the Premier League that have such an attendance requirement in place.

In a shift that may go some way to appeasing fearful supporters, the club said in the communication: 'We know life can sometimes be unpredictable, and things happen that may prevent you from meeting the criteria – if this is the case, please get in touch and we can discuss it together.'

Those with concessionary tickets - such as over-65s - must personally attend 10 of the 19 home games to be eligible to renew and cannot pass their seat on.

United however said they were 'reviewing this element of the policy ahead of next season and will communicate any change in approach in the new year'.

The club also accepted some of their recent communications to matchgoing fans 'could have been clearer, and that some fans may feel confused, worried about doing the wrong thing and, at worst, targeted by the club'.

'We do not want fans to feel that way and we are committed to doing better,' United said.
