Manchester United ‘to try and convince Paul Pogba to sign bumper new contract’ despite midfielder pushing for Real Madrid move

* Man United reportedly want to tie Paul Pogba down to a new long-term contract
* Real Madrid were interested in signing Pogba but a move failed to materialise
* United to offer him new and improved deal in an attempt to persuade him to stay

Manchester United will reportedly offer Paul Pogba a new and improved contract in a bid to persuade the midfielder to remain at Old Trafford.

Pogba appeared set to leave United this summer after revealing he wanted a new challenge in July, resulting in interest from Real Madrid.

However, Madrid didn't make a bid for the Frenchman and with the transfer window now shut United are keen to tie the 26-year-old down to a new deal.

Paul Pogba looks on during Manchester United's training session on Wednesday morning. United will reportedly try and convince Pogba to stay with a new and improved contract

Pogba will enter the final year of his contract at the end of the season – but United retain the option of a further 12 months.

However, the Evening Standard claim the Red Devils are unwilling to risk letting their record signing move within a year of becoming a free agent and will try and tempt him with a significant pay rise.

United could face a battle to convince the player to stay, however, with Pogba's agent Mino Raiola and brother Mathias continuing to cast doubts over his future.

On Tuesday, Pogba's brother said it is common knowledge that Zinedine Zidane is a huge admirer of the Manchester United midfielder.

Mathias, who plays for Manchego in the Spanish fourth tier, told Radio Marca: 'Zidane wanted players, he didn't get them, but I have no doubt that he's going to do the work he needs to do in order to get the team back to the level he wants.

'I like Zidane and he likes my brother - everyone knows it.'

Mino Raiola attempted to instigate a transfer in the summer and even said: 'Everyone knows the willingness of Paul to move on. We are in the process of that. Everyone knows what the feelings of Paul are.'

Paul Pogba spends £15,000 on specialist guard dog as Manchester United midfielder upgrades protection with rottweiler

* Paul Pogba has decided to upgrade his security at home in Manchester
* He has used the same firm as team-mates Marcus Rashford and Phil Jones
* Midfielder spent £15,000 on elite guard dog trained by company Chaperone K9

Paul Pogba has splashed out £15,000 on a guard dog from a specialist protection firm.

Chaperone K9 are the company who provide the dog, which is understood to be a rottweiler.

They describe themselves as providers of protection for families, individuals and business with their trained dogs.

The company have also supplied the animals to Pogba's United team-mates Marcus Rashford and Phil Jones.

No doubt he has heard their testimonials and decided to invest in more protection for himself.

Chaperone K9 boss Richard Arnold told the Sun: 'Footballers are obviously targeted individuals.

'They want something that when they go away will keep their family safe.

'They're not aggressive animals in the slightest — until called upon.'

Pogba's relationship with the United supporters has been a complicated one and the relationship is frosty following his desire to leave this summer.

The Manchester United midfielder is upgrading his security and 'Pogba Out' was sprayed outside Manchester United's Carrington training ground recently.

He is currently recovering from an ankle injury but could be back for the midweek clash against Rochdale in the Carabao Cup.

Real Madrid handed boost in chase for Paul Pogba as Frenchman 'demands £600,000-per-week' in contract negotiations with Manchester United

* Manchester United are attempting to persuade Paul Pogba to sign new deal
* OK Diario report that negotiations over contract at the club are stalling
* Real Madrid wanted Pogba this summer and Frenchman is still keen on move

Real Madrid have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Paul Pogba as negotiations with Manchester United over a new contract have hit the buffers.

The Frenchman made no secret of his desire to join the Spanish side this summer but they could not agree a deal with United.

OK Diario report that Pogba wants £600,000-per-week at Old Trafford, a demand that is causing talks to stall.

United wanted £150million for the World Cup winner but will be concerned that his value is decreasing as his contract winds down.

The current deal expires in 2021, meaning the situation is entering a critical stage.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously said he is not concerned with any interest around Pogba and is fully prepared to deal with the situation again in January.

Paul Pogba is ready to step up efforts to leave Manchester United in January.

According to the Sun, Pogba has no chance of signing a new contract at Old Trafford.

He has two years left on his current deal and United have an option to sign him for a further year.

Pogba reportedly believes the club is in reverse and is refusing to be made a scapegoat.

Solskjaer praised his attitude on the pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East and looked to have convinced him to stay.

But now Pogba, who missed the last three games before returning against Rochdale, has made his mind up and wants to leave.

Paul Pogba wants Manchester United to DOUBLE his wages, as the Frenchman 'demands £30m-a-year' to stay at Old Trafford

* Paul Pogba has asked for a huge increase in wages to stay at Manchester United
* The midfielder has been searching for an exit to Real Madrid or Juventus
* He wants his wages doubled to around £30million-a-year (£600k-a-week)

Paul Pogba has demanded £30million-a-year in wages from Manchester United, double what he's currently earning, according to Tuttosport.

It's no secret that Pogba would've liked a move away from Manchester United in the summer, and now he's asked for huge wages perhaps in an effort to force a move in January.

The midfielder is currently on around £300,000-a-week, but would like to see that amount increased massively to around £600k-a-week.

Pogba is under the watchful eye of a number of top European clubs including Juventus and Real Madrid.

Both clubs were reluctant to reach United's £180m valuation in the summer, but Juventus recently renewed their interest, and may look to pounce in the January transfer window.

Pogba currently has two years left on his contract, and United have an option to sign him for another year after that.

However, the Frenchman recently came to the negotiating table in order to ask for more money as he searches for an exit.

Paul Pogba has reportedly demanded that Man United double his wages to £30m-a-year. The midfielder has been searching for an exit to either Juventus or Real Madrid in recent times. His demands will double his wages, although he has two years left on his current contract

Pogba has played four Premier League games for United this season, playing pretty well and getting two assists. However, he is a doubt for their showdown with Arsenal on Monday due to a recurring ankle injury.

There have been reports of fractures in the United camp, which have been debunked by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has praised his attitude.

Goalkeeper David de Gea treated his team-mates to dinner at Juan Mata's restaurant after their League Cup tie, but Pogba was reportedly absent for the bonding occasion due to his injury.

'It kind of feels like he's a problem child in this team': Peter Schmeichel slams Paul Pogba and believes Manchester United will suffer if the Frenchman continues to dictate in midfield

* Peter Schmeichel feels that Paul Pogba is a 'problem child' at Manchester United
* The former United goalkeeper believes the Frenchman slows the play down
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side drew 1-1 with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Monday
* Schmeichel also questioned Pogba's role in the team and Solskjaer's use of him

Paul Pogba is 'a problem child' and Manchester United will suffer if he continues to slow down the pace of games, warns Peter Schmeichel.

The legendary former United goalkeeper pinpointed the controversial midfielder after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Monday night.

In conversation with Stadium Astro, Schmeichel was frustrated with the all-round performance but highlighted Pogba, who was starting his first league match for a month, as one real area of concern.

Paul Pogba was picked out for criticism after Manchester United's 1-1 draw against Arsenal. The Frenchman was back in the side but struggled to arrest the club's disappointing form - and Peter Schmeichel was particularly critical of his appearance

'It was a really weird performance,' said Schmeichel, who is widely considered United's greatest ever goalkeeper. 'If Pogba is playing in this team he needs to speed it up a bit. He was seriously slowing it down, in the first 25 minutes just basically playing the ball backwards. For a player of his calibre that was disappointing.

'I don't understand what his role in this team is. Even when Ole made the substitutions and put Pogba further forward, not a lot happened.

'There were two very good passes in the game from Pogba but it's two, it's not 15.

'And I see that as a problem. He takes up so much attention. It kind of feels like he's a problem child in this team.'

United took the lead through a stunner from Scott McTominay but were later pegged back when VAR stepped in to correctly award Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the equalising goal. Arsenal rose to fourth while United are sat in 10th following their worst start ever to a Premier League season.

Pogba remains an enigma for United following his then world-record £89million transfer from Juventus in 2016.

The French World Cup winner has often failed to justify his huge fee, and was even dropped by Jose Mourinho before the latter's sacking last year.

Pogba returned to action from an ankle injury in the dismal League Cup draw at home with Rochdale, with United scraping past the League One side on penalties.

He has yet to score in six appearances this season, registering two assists.

Paul Pogba is sulking because Manchester United 'can't compete' for the title, claims Arsene Wenger - who also blames star's slump on his desire to leave Old Trafford and lack of motivation and fitness

* Paul Pogba is enduring a miserable start to the season with Manchester United
* The midfielder missed United's loss to Newcastle on Sunday with an ankle injury
* Pogba has failed to score in five Premier League appearances for his side
* Arsene Wenger puts his poor performances down to mentality and fitness issues

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said that Paul Pogba's lacklustre performances for struggling Manchester United are a result of the player not being fully fit, while also doubting his side's ability to win titles.

The midfielder has played only twice since August and missed United's loss to Newcastle on Sunday as well as their drab 0-0 draw against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League last week, owing to a recurring ankle injury.

They sit just two points above the relegation zone, in 12th place, in the Premier League and have a trip to table-topping Liverpool to look forward to after the international break.

Paul Pogba has appeared five times in the Premier League this season, failing to score

Ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger puts Pogba's poor showings down to mentality and fitness

Speaking to beIN Sports, Wenger - who managed the Gunners for 22 years - said that the French World Cup winner hasn't been in peak condition since the season kicked off.

'First of all, I think Paul Pogba since the start of the season has never been completely fit, injury wise,' said Wenger.

'He doesn't look completely confident physically and he's the type of player who has a huge physical power. He needs to be perfectly fit physically.'

He added: 'After that, when a player wants to leave and you stop him from leaving, you know you go through a process of rebuilding the relationship that the first thing that suffers is the performances.

'I personally think he behaves as well like he knows that Man United at the moment is not the team to compete for the championship.

'And, plus the fact that he was stopped from going away, it looks like the two together a bit tarnish his performances.'

Pogba, 26, publicly stated towards the end of last season that he was interested in a move away from Old Trafford.

The star has appeared five times for United in the Premier League this season, failing to score and winning just once.

He also played in his side's dire penalty shootout win against League One Rochdale, failing to make much of an impact as United trudged to a win against the minnows.

He has two years left on his current deal and United have an option to sign him for a further year, but reports suggest the midfielder is 'desperate' to leave the Red Devils.

According to the Sun, there is no chance of Pogba signing a new contract at Old Trafford and will try to engineer a January move - with Real Madrid his preferred destination.

Manchester United star Paul Pogba seen meeting with Zinedine Zidane in Dubai during injury rehab fuelling Real Madrid transfer speculation

* Zidane happened to be in Dubai for an Artificial Intelligence in Sport conference
* Pogba will not have recovered in time to face United's rivals Liverpool on Sunday

Manchester United talisman Paul Pogba has been pictured meeting up with Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane in Dubai.

Pogba is in the Middle East undergoing extensive rehabilitation on the troublesome ankle injury which has curtailed his season.

United fans may have cause to worry though, as the World Cup winner took time out to link up with the very manager he has expressed a strong desire to work under.

While Pogba is working on his fitness, Zidane has been in Dubai as a guest attendee of the Dubai Artificial Intelligence in Sport (DAIS) Conference and Exhibition.

The pair were photographed meeting up, as revealed by the Mirror, at a beach resort.

Zidane, dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, was seen chatting animatedly to Pogba.

As previously reported by Sportsmail, Zidane had made Pogba his top priority target in the summer and was believed to be disappointed that a deal could not be done.

Over the past months, Pogba has made little secret of his desire to play for Madrid, and has on several occasions admitted Zidane was his role model as a youngster.

The midfielder's out-spoken brother, Mathias, has several times fanned the flames of speculation by speaking of how much Zidane wishes to sign his younger sibling from United.

He told Radio Marca in September: 'Zidane wanted players, he didn't get them, but I have no doubt that he's going to do the work he needs to do in order to get the team back to the level he wants.

'I like Zidane and he likes my brother - everyone knows it.'

Pogba has been in warm weather training at the Transform Altitude Performance Center in a bid to accelerate his recovery from the injury which will rule him out of Sunday's derby game against bitter rivals Liverpool.

Ketemu Pogba di Dubai, Zidane: Pembicaraan Pribadi!
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detikSport
