Default FIFA 18 & Pro Evolution Soccer 2018

Ronaldo joined by Diego Maradona, Pele and Thierry Henry as FIFA 18 Icons in Ultimate Team mode

* Some of the biggest legends in football history make their debuts on FIFA 18
* Ex-Soviet Union goalkeeper Lev Yashin is one who features on Ultimate Team
* Yashin wears his trademark flat cap, in something of a departure for the game
* Ultimate Team will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC only on FIFA 18

Two of the greatest players of all time will be coming to FIFA 18 Icons after EA Sports announced the inclusion of Pele and Diego Maradona.

The South American giants will be joining former Real Madrid striker Ronaldo in Ultimate Team for the latest edition of the game, which will be coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC.

And they are not the only legends who will be available to players of FIFA when the next edition drops on September 29.

Diego Maradona, Pele, Lev Yashin, Ronaldo and Thierry Henry (L-R) all feature in Ultimate Team

Ronaldo is one of five new players to appear in the upcoming edition of the game on FIFA 18

Brazilian legend Pele will be one star that players of Ultimate Team will be desperate to acquire

A frontline of Pele and Argentina maestro Diego Maradona would be a frightening prospect

Arsenal hero Thierry Henry will be an option for anyone looking for a clinical option up front or a player able to cut in from the left wing.

While there is also a place for Lev Yashin, the Soviet Union goalkeeper, who is widely regarded as one of the best players to ever stand between the sticks.

Yashin also features his trademark flat cap, in something of a departure for FIFA.

A new trailer has been released showing each of the players walking out of a tunnel in one of the most star-studded line-ups of all time.

Thierry Henry also features in the game - a happy moment for supporters of the Arsenal legend

Default Re: FIFA 18 & Pro Evolution Soccer 2018

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 review: Not the return of the king but this has its own merits compared to FIFA

* Ten years ago, FIFA became the market leader when it comes to football games
* Pro Evolution Soccer are finally showing their worth again in the gaming sphere
* The new edition features fast paced play and the presentation is good
* A lack of licenses is still an issue and other problems still surface in gameplay

Ten years ago, the balance of the football video game world changed. FIFA finally took advantage of a lack of innovation on the part of Pro Evolution Soccer and created the kingdom they rule today.

Every year since people have been waiting for a return from Konami. Every year since, people have asked: 'Is the king back?'

And once again that question comes up when you load PES 2018. The short answer? No. The longer answer? This is a game that has merits and can stand on its own feet as a worthy use of your time.

Pro Evolution Soccer has made a comeback but it still does not measure up to FIFA

This is a game that has merits and can stand on its own feet as a worthy use of your time

First, the negatives. Compared to the ultra slick FIFA, everything bar the gameplay on PES still feels like picking up a game from a bygone era.

The menus and navigation, especially in Master League, just hold you back from what you want to do.

It is janky and often takes two or three times longer to make a change than you'd expect.

In essence there's a sense of nostalgia to it. Barota and Castolo may no longer be part of the team but that aside, playing Master League feels very similar to doing so on PES 4.

Everything bar the gameplay on PES still feels like picking up a game from a bygone era

That may be slightly harsh - in-game news stories and cut scenes, such as the managerial presentation, add a lot to the mode. But having to wade through four screens to sell a player or find one feels old fashioned.

And as an aspect of the gameplay itself, the commentary stands out as an issue. In one match I took two shots with Fernando Torres in the area, one straight after another. Peter Drury screamed, 'Torres with a shot!' after each one.

But these are minor complaints. The commentary is the only part of the presentation that feels outdated.

The usage of the Champions League license is superb and really does give those matches a more impressive vibe than a standard encounter.

Stadiums are well realised, crowds react nicely to goals and having the tunnel at Anfield and the Nou Camp - two of football's great arenas - aids the pre-match build up.

Stadiums are well realised, crowds react nicely to goals which add to the spectacle

The only shame is the usual lack of actual teams and kits, something that surely should have been rectified by this point. It just gives everything a less than impressive edge.

Playing as Liverpool against Man Red will never be the same as the actual tension of a North West derby.

On the pitch the gameplay is fun. Again, a caveat. I cannot believe this game still has the limited turning circles of older games.

Given FIFA has had 360 degree movement for years, it's a really weird sensation to only be able to dribble along certain angles.

That aside, the football part is quite well done. In fact, some of the matches I played were genuinely entertaining.

There's a pace to the play and it feels as though Konami may have taken a step back and decided what they might do to separate themselves from their competitor.

It still has the limited turning circles of older games, allowing you to only run in certain angles

Intricate passing play is rewarded, as is the ability to defend and then move up the field rapidly. Not only that, but there is a nice variety of what works against opponents.

There's no sense that you should just repeat the same action over and over again.

Quite a good test of a game is how real the goals feel and whether they would happen in real life. The answer is yes. Nothing really feels like it is just an exploitation of a system in the game.

For example, checking back after a run from Antoine Griezmann saw willing runners emerge in the box. A low pass across found one, and his shot arrowed into the top corner. It was the sort of goal you see on screen and across grounds every weekend.

The fact it flew in made it feel real. Because it felt inevitable that it would.

An extremely lifelike David Beckham will feature on the edition's legends mode

The passing play is smooth and slick and tends to well replicate the team that you are either playing as or against.

In fact, the defending system on the game is more easily understandable than FIFA's has been over the last few years. Corners and penalties work better than EA Sports' new system.

And sometimes, counter attacks are so lovely to put together that you have little interest in having the ball until you can break quickly up the field.

Overall, PES 2018 is a perfectly good game and a worthy use of your time.

It will probably not upset the FIFA apple cart but sometimes the difference is what matters.

The king may not be back but at least a pretender to the throne is starting to emerge. Now the test is whether PES will be beaten back, or if this is the first inklings of a new dynasty.

Pele has been announced as one of the new FIFA 18 Ultimate Team Icons and the Brazilian legend will be the highest rated player in the game

* Pele makes his return to the FIFA franchise but will be an icon card not a legend
* This means both PS4 will have their first chance to play as Pele in the FIFA games
* He will have three cards, giving fans a higher chance of finding him in a pack

Pele returns to the the FIFA series in FIFA 18 as part of the brand new Icon cards in Ultimate team.

The legend cards of FIFA 17 have been replaced by Icon cards. Icons will have three separate cards that reflect how a player progressed through their career.

These will be available to both Playstation and Xbox players after legend cards were previously only available on Xbox.

Legendary football player Pele debuts on PS4 and returns to Xbox One as a FIFA 18 FUT Icon

The new Icons replace the legend cards in ultimate team and pay tribute to player's careers

Pele has been a legend card in previous FIFA games and will now be an Icon. His first two cards (based on 1958 and 1962) have his position down as a centre forward but his third and final card, based on 1970, has him further back on the field as a central attacking midfielder.

That third card is the highest rated in the game with an overall of 98, pipping Diego Maradona to the top spot by a difference of just one in rating.

His third card has slightly less pace than the second edition but with improved dribbling, shooting and passing, that shouldn't bother you too much.

And in addition to that, all three cards give Pele five star skills and a four star weak foot, meaning he is lethal from anywhere on the pitch.

Joining Pele on the list of icons includes Maradona, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo Nazario, Thierry Henry, Lev Yashin, Ruud Gullitt, Michael Owen, Rio Ferdinand and more!

REDS HELP TO LAUNCH FIFA 18 GAME

The wait is finally over as Manchester United fans across the globe can now play virtually with the footballing stars they admire, following the release of FIFA 18.

Ashley Young and former Reds captain Rio Ferdinand were present at the launch party in London recently to celebrate the unveiling of the popular EA Sports computer game on Friday 29 September.

MUTV were there too, with YouTuber ChuBoi, as players and fans tried out the latest instalment of the FIFA franchise. After their excellent form at the start of the season, Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku have been two of the most chosen players for the game’s ‘Ultimate Team’ feature so far.

Musician Olly Murs, who is a huge Reds supporter, attended the party and, after playing with his beloved club while having a sneak peek of the game, commented: “In the game, you feel like if you’ve got Pogba on the ball, you feel like you’ve actually got him [in your team]. He’s full of tricks, he’s big, he’s powerful, he’s got speed.”

FIFA 18 adds 58 new player faces... David Silva and Neymar look amazing, while newly promoted Premier League clubs get a much needed makeover

* Every so often, EA Sports upgrades the graphics of the player faces in FIFA 18
* Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Huddersfield Town are the focus

EA Sports works on FIFA all year round, and the latest update has added a crop of new player faces to the game.

The upgraded visuals are mainly limited to the Premier League's new teams, Newcastle United, Huddersfield Town, and Brighton & Hove Albion.

But there are a few big names in there too, such as Manchester City's David Silva, and Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar, who now look even better than before.

David Silva has lost his long locks of yesteryear, so EA have had to change him up in FIFA 18 too

Neymar is the most expensive player in the world so EA have to keep his appearance up to date

David Silva has been updated to better represent his latest haircut, and Neymar's new do has been put into the game too.

Crystal Palace's Andros Townsend has a lot less hair on his head, and a lot more hair on his chin these days. So his player in FIFA 18 has been updated accordingly.

Special attention has been given to Portuguese player Ricardo Quaresma, who plays for Besiktas.

He has very distinctive tattoos all around his neck, and EA has paid a lot of attention to detail.

Ricardo Quaresma's tattoos look great, and Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles looks better

58 players in total have had new faces added to the game.

The three new Premier League teams have the most, but there are also players like Nahki Wells from Burnley, Rekeem Harper from Blackburn Rovers, and Richie Towell from Rotheram.

Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich launch new digital fourth kits available only in FIFA Ultimate Team

* European giants Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich launch 4th kits in FIFA 18
* The new designs will be available to unlock from this week in the popular FIFA Ultimate Team game
* Adidas Man United design features a red and black pattern, while Real 4th kit is an all-black strip
* The Juventus kit features the club's logo in black and white, while Bayern's is a black kit with red sash
* Unfortunately the new 4th kits won't be available to buy in real life and are exclusive to the game

European football heavyweights Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich have launched brand new fourth strips in time for Christmas... but there's a twist.

The fresh adidas designs will exist only in the digital world of FIFA 18 and their incredibly popular FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) game.

The new fourth kits will be automatically available to FIFA 18 players who had selected one of the four clubs as their favourite team on their active gamer profile prior to December 14, becoming playable in the game from this week.

Adidas have teamed up with FIFA 18 to launch exclusive digital-only 4th kits for four teams, including Manchester United

The all-black Real Madrid 4th kit is another one of the exclusive strips that will be available to unlock in FIFA 18

The Bayern Munich 4th kit design is a black strip with a red sash in the three stripes of their kit maker Adidas

The Juventus 4th kit design features the Italian club's logo prominently while keeping the famous black and white colours

The fact these kits won't actually be available in real life may come as a disappointment to fans as they're quite eye-catching.

The United strip, as modelled by Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jesse Lingard in the YouTube trailer, is a black and red pattern with the trademark adidas stripes on the sleeve.

Some fans may wish that the new 4th kit designs become a reality and are available to buy in real life at some point

Rashford celebrates scoring at Old Trafford in FIFA 18 while wearing the new Manchester United 4th kit

Bayern Munich's virtual fourth kit is black with a three-stripe red sash, while Real's is an all-black strip featuring the gold FIFA Club World Cup winners' badge on the chest after they retained their title last weekend.

The Juventus kit, meanwhile, features their modern club crest in black and white colours.

The quartet of new strips will certainly add another dimension for FIFA gamers over the festive period and into 2018.
