David Beckham 'signs £180 million sponsorship deal with Qatar for his new football club Inter Miami'

David Beckham has reportedly signed a £180 million sponsorship deal with Qatar for his new football club Inter Miami.

The deal has been on the cards for weeks after 'secret talks' were reportedly held between the football star and his agent David Gardner.

A source told The Sun: 'This deal wipes the floor with previous sponsorship deals. Becks and his agent David Gardner have been incredibly hands-on, determined to get the best terms possible.

'Qatar is keen to drive investments overseas to improve and soften its image. Miami and the Beckham brand fits perfectly with this.'

In return for the lump sum Qatar will see their logo brandished on all of the football club's kit and merchandise as well as taking centre stage at their Miami, Florida, stadium.

The club will play its inaugural game against FC Dallas on March 22.

MailOnline has contacted Beckham's representative for comment.

Big news: David Beckham has reportedly signed a £180 million sponsorship deal with Qatar for his new football club Inter Miami. Dream team: Beckham posed for a selfie with the club's Managing Owner Jorge Mas and Sporting Director Paul McDonough earlier this month

Fans left in the dark over the deal, which was signed two weeks ago, began to question whether the club would become the first to enter Major League Soccer without a sponsor.

The Qatar Foundation, said to be a charitable trust, previously sponsored Barcelona FC for two seasons - with a shirt sponsorship contract worth £125m.

Qatar foundation was set up by the Gulf emirate's royal family and was seen as an attempt to boost their footballing credentials.

Drawing a mixed response from fans, the sponsorship left some questioning how a deal could be made with a country where homosexuality is illegal and human rights abuse and corruption is alleged to take place.

Sources told The Sun that the has told Beckham it will relax its policies in the future.

Beckham has reportedly made his support for Qatar to host the 2022 World Cup known.

David Beckham reveals his new Inter Miami side may delay bringing in star player until the summer amid Edinson Cavani links as legendary owner poses with his players before MLS launch

* Inter Miami make their Major League Soccer debut this weekend
* David Beckham's new MLS franchise face Los Angeles FC on Sunday
* They may now wait until the summer to bring in a third designated player

David Beckham insists he is happy with the squad at his disposal, despite Inter Miami failing to bring in a third designated player ahead of their Major League Soccer debut.

MLS' newest franchise have already acquired Matias Pellegrini and Rodolfo Pizarro ahead of their opener against Los Angeles FC on Sunday.

Miami confirmed last month that they had held talks over a shock move for Edinson Cavani, only for him to remain at PSG until the end of the season, while Luka Modric has also been targeted.

David Beckham poses with the players and staff at Inter Miami during a photoshoot

And co-owner and club president Beckham maintains he is willing to wait until the summer if he has to to bring in that third star man.

After posing for pictures with players and staff during a media day at Fort Lauderdale, he said, via Miami Herald: 'I am not disappointed in any way possible because I know this has taken seven years.

'A lot of you have seen those seven years unfold, there's been some frustrating times, but someone turned around to me the other day and said: "What would be success for this team and this franchise?" For me, on March 14, when we step onto our stadium in front of our fans, for me, that's success because I know what it's taken to get here.

The former England captain talks with goalkeeper Luis Robles on the training ground

'We're Miami, so people are always going to talk about the big-name players, what DPs are we going to bring in? We're more than happy with the squad of players we've got.

'If we do bring another one or two players in before that, then great, but I think we're looking toward the summer. This is a long-term project.

'We're going to be here for many, many years to come, so that longevity is an important part for us. ... I don't think anyone will be frustrated we don't have a big-name player for the first game.'

David Beckham promises a 'great opportunity' for Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo at Inter Miami as he opens the door to his MLS franchise signing the two superstars

* David Beckham's MLS franchise Inter Miami play their first match this Sunday
* Prospect has been raised that Messi and Ronaldo could one day join them
* Beckham said that Miami could offer the pair 'great opportunities' in the future
* Inter Miami travel to Los Angeles FC in their first league fixture on Sunday

David Beckham believes his Major League Soccer franchise Inter Miami have a chance of signing Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the years to come.

The new franchise is preparing for its maiden season in MLS, beginning with a trip to Los Angeles FC on Sunday.

And Beckham did nothing to dampen excited speculation that Messi and Ronaldo, widely considered as the world's two best players, could one day line up for the club.

'Well you know what, we've got great opportunities down in Miami,' Beckham said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday.

'We've been contacted by a lot of different players over possibly coming to join the team.

'As with any owner, you really want the best players and if we have the opportunity to bring in players like Cristiano or Leo, I have such admiration for them as athletes, if we could bring those players in then great.'

The former England captain added: 'But at the moment, we have a great roster. Young players, a couple of experienced players too, but a lot of young players who are just ready to play.

David Beckham has promised Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo 'great opportunities' at his Major League Soccer franchise Inter Miami

'One of the things I learned from Alex Ferguson... he turned around to me and said whoever you bring in, they have to be the right fit for the club.

'It's not about the biggest name or personality, it's about who fits in best with the players.

'That's what we'll do. But, like I said, as an owner if you want to bring these players in then we have a great opportunity.'

Ronaldo is 35 but is showing few signs of slowing down after scoring 25 times in 31 appearances for Juventus so far this season.

Messi, 32, is also enjoying another excellent season for Barcelona, with 23 goals and 16 assists as they chase silverware in La Liga and the Champions League.

Inter Miami 'ready to hijack David Silva's move to New York City' as star owner David Beckham prepares audacious move for playmaker

* David Silva is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the current season
* The Spaniard looks set to become the latest name to join Major League Soccer
* It was expected Silva would sign for City's partner club New York City FC
* David Beckham's Inter Miami are now looking to make an audacious move

David Beckham's ambitious new MLS franchise Inter Miami are reportedly pulling out all the stops to make a bid to sign David Silva this summer.

The legendary Spanish star is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the current Premier League season, and looks set to be the next biggest name to appear in Major League Soccer.

Silva had been courting the attention of City's partner club in the States, New York City FC, but now Beckham-led Inter Miami are looking to pull off a major coup, as reported by the Mirror.

Beckham is a huge admirer of the midfielder and is said to be willing to make Silva one of the best-paid players in the league.

Inter Miami have lost their first two games in their debut MLS season so far, and take on Beckham's old side LA Galaxy on Saturday.

The newly formed club hold lofty ambitions, and have also been linked with a huge move for Real Madrid's Luka Modric.

A battle for the signature of David Silva looks set to break out in Major League Soccer. Beckham holds loft ambitions for his newly formed club and wants to bring the biggest names. Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has also been linked with a summer move to Inter Miami

Beckham is set to raid his former club in La Liga, with Madrid understood to be allowing Modric - who has a year remaining on his current deal - to make his own call on the situation.

Silva, now 34, is still at the top of his game and has made 19 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring three goals and providing seven assists.

The former Valencia man has won every trophy possible during his time with City, except the Champions League.

Silva and his team-mates remain on course to progress to the last eight of the competition, having pulled off a remarkable 2-1 first leg victory against Real Madrid in Spain.

David Beckham's first home game as Inter Miami owner is OFF as MLS suspend season for 30 days following the outbreak of coronavirus

* The MLS made the call to suspend the season for at least 30 days on Thursday
* It means David Beckham's first game as Inter Miami is to be suspended for now
* They have lost the first two matches but will not feature again for another month

Major League Soccer have announced that they have suspended their league season for the next 30 days due to the coronavirus outbreak - delaying David Beckham's first home game as Inter Miami owner.

The season is just two games old but the MLS made the decision on Thursday to suspend all games for at least 30 days.

'Our clubs were united today in the decision to temporarily suspend our season - based on the advice and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), and other public health authorities, and in the best interest of our fans, players, officials and employees,' MLS commissioner Don Garber said.

Beckham's Inter Miami are one of two new teams included in MLS this season and they have made a slow start, losing both of their opening two games.

They were beaten 1-0 by LAFC and then followed that up with a 2-1 defeat to DC United.

The MLS becomes the latest major sporting league to abandon fixtures for the time being following the outbreak of the deadly virus.

On Thursday, Portugal, Spain and Holland suspended action while Italian top flight Serie A was already suspended indefinitely.

David Beckham's first home as Inter Miami owner is off for now as MLS suspends its season. The MLS has suspended the league for 30 days following the outbreak of coronavirus

American sport has already been affected with the NBA suspended all basketball activity indefinitely after Utah Jazz stars Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell tested positive for coronavirus.

The United States national teams also cancelled their upcoming games in March and April due to growing fears of the impact of the virus.

It is anticipated that the Champions League, Europa League and Euro 2020 could also be suspended or called off due to the virus outbreak as authorities look to limit large crowds gathering in a bid to prevent the spreading of the disease.

UEFA will hold a meeting of all 55 football federations in Europe to discuss the impact of the coronavirus on all domestic and European competitions, including the Euro 2020 tournament, the organisation announced on Thursday.

The meeting will be conducted by video conference on Tuesday, March 17, and will also involve the boards of the European Club Association, the European leagues and a representative of FIFPro, the players' union.

Cesc Fabregas hands David Beckham's Inter Miami transfer boost after admitting he 'likes the idea' of finishing career in MLS

* Cesc Fabregas has spoken out on where he could see his football career going
* The midfielder held a Q&A on social media for fans to quiz him during lockdown
* After being asked if he would move to MLS Fabregas did not shut the door
* David Beckham's Inter Miami are known admirers of the veteran playmaker

Former Chelsea and Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas has fanned the flames regarding a potential MLS transfer, with David Beckham's newly formed Inter Miami on standby.

Fabregas, 32, took time out during coronavirus lockdown to answer a series of questions from fans on social media, and it was only a matter of time before transfer speculation came up.

Fabregas, currently in the French top flight with Monaco, did not pour cold water on talk of him finishing his career in America, as links with Miami continue to gather pace.

Midfielder Cesc Fabregas has fanned the flames regarding a potential MLS transfer

After being asked, 'Would you ever consider a move to the USA?', Fabregas was rather frank with his response.

'Time will tell,' wrote the Spaniard, 'I like the idea one day in a few years maybe.'

Inter Miami are expected to make big waves in the upcoming transfer window, after recently being accepted into MLS as the latest franchise.

Already speculation has linked Real Madrid ace Luka Modric to Miami, while the club are also hopeful of swaying David Silva who is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season.

The outbreak of coronavirus curtailed the start of Inter Miami's MLS journey, with Beckham and his fellow owners now left waiting for their first home fixture.
