West Brom boss Tony Pulis expects Jonny Evans to play into his thirties as he calls the defender 'a top player'

* West Brom take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night
* City made a bid of £21million for the Northern Ireland defender in the summer
* Baggies manager Tony Pulis has described the central defender as a 'top player'

Tony Pulis has said Jonny Evans could play well into his thirties as the West Brom manager weighs up whether to play the centre-back against the club that tried to sign him.

Manchester City visit the Hawthorns in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and could be met by Evans, 29, who Pep Guardiola bid £21m for in an effort to reinforce his defence.

'He's a top player,' said Pulis. 'He said he was a West Brom player until anything changed and he's remained a West Brom player, thank goodness. We move on with it now and we'll march forward.

West Brom's Jonny Evans could play well into his thirties, according to Tony Pulis

'I think he's done well here in lots of respects. He's always technically been a good centre-half but he's become a better defender and the responsibly now of being captain will take him on again.

'He picks up one or two injuries but he is a very fit lad and he has got a lot more in the tank. He's a lad who could play well into his thirties.'

West Brom signed Evans from Manchester United for £6m in 2015 but placed a £30m price on his head when City came calling. 'We're pleased that value is that value and I'm even more pleased we never took it,' said Pulis.

Tony Pulis insists he is relaxed over Jonny Evans' future as West Brom prepare to offer captain new deal

* Northern Ireland international Jonny Evans attracted interest this summer
* West Brom boss Tony Pulis is not concerned as defender has two years on deal
* Baggies are drawing up new contract to offer their captain for extension
* West Brom play Leicester on Monday and Foxes were keen on signing Evans

West Brom boss Tony Pulis remains relaxed over Jonny Evans' future as the club plan to offer the skipper a new deal.

The Baggies want to tie the defender down after they rejected bids from Leicester, Arsenal and Manchester City in the summer.

Evans penned a four-year deal at The Hawthorns when he signed for £6million, rising to £8million, in 2015 from Manchester United.

West Brom were looking for over £30million in the summer if they were to even consider a sale.

The defender will face Leicester on Monday for the first time since their interest became known, but Pulis is content with the situation regarding Evans.

Pulis said: 'Jonny has two years left and I don't think anything's going to happen with Jonny for a while. If they're talking, they're talking. I haven't got a problem with Jonny.

'There was a bid they (Leicester) put in and it was left to the club, as it was with Arsenal and Manchester City. We get on with it. Would Jonny have gone to Leicester? I don't know, you'd have to speak to Jonny. Would the club have accepted it? Obviously not so there's nothing else to talk about.

'The window affects players, it affected him and (Nacer) Chadli. It's something they've decided to bring forward so it'll only affect them a little bit less.

Jonny Evans was the subject of plenty of transfer speculation in the summer window. Tony Pulis is not concerned by the situation surrounding his sought-after captain. Evans has two years left on his current deal and the club are preparing to offer fresh terms

'He's fine, Jonny's fine.'

Albion are winless in their last five Premier League games as they go to Leicester, and will be hoping to have Salomon Rondon available after he only returned from international duty with Venezuela on Saturday.

Rondon scored his first league goal of the season in the 2-2 draw with Watford last month and has netted twice in four previous games against Leicester.

Pulis added: 'We gave him a couple of days' grace because of his family (to see them). That was important for him.

'He needed that goal, he's got it and he's done well against Leicester when we've played.'

Everton join Manchester City in race to land West Brom skipper Jonny Evans

* Everton are set to enter a big-money fight with Manchester City for Jonny Evans
* City tried signing the West Brom skipper during the summer transfer window
* And now Everton want to bring the Northern Ireland international to Goodison
* The Baggies will listen to offers for their captain but will only sell for huge money

Everton have entered the race for West Brom defender Jonny Evans and are set to battle it out with Manchester City to secure his signature.

According to the Sun, West Brom are open to selling their skipper with both Pep Guardiola and the managerless Toffees eager to bring him in to prop up their defences.

City tried signing Evans during the summer window but failed to meet the Baggies' £35million price tag before the window slammed shut.

Everton have joined Manchester City in the race to sign West Brom defender Jonny Evans. West Brom are open to the idea of selling their skipper in January but only for huge money

Despite their blistering start this season, which has seen them go unbeaten in all competitive games, City boss Guardiola is still keen on shoring up his defensive options.

He will however now face competition for the Northern Ireland international, with Everton expressing a desire to bring him to Goodison.

Their defenders Micheal Keane and Ashley Williams have struggled for consistency this season, which has seen them post the fourth worst defensive record in the Premier League so far.

Although spending big in the summer has not returned positive results for the Toffees, owner Farhad Moshiri is prepared to dig deep into his pockets once more in an attempt to work their way out of trouble.

And he will have to dig very deep with the asking price set to be huge when the January transfer window opens.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis did his utmost to ensure they held on to Evans during the summer and is bracing himself for another bruising window.

But Evans' campaign has been blighted by injury so far which could tempt the Baggies to accept big money rather than battle to hold on to him again.

As well as Evans Everton are also keeping tabs on Preston's young left back Josh Earl, who is being touted as an ideal long-term replacement for Leighton Baines.

Their scout Steve Walsh had watched the 19-year-old against Brentford last week, before the defender sustained knee ligament damage in the following game against Aston Villa.

They are thought to still be interested but the injury has put a stumbling block in the way and slowed down their pursuit for him.

Soal Jonny Evans, Wenger Sebut Arsenal Tak Bisa Saingi City
Novitasari Dewi Salusi - detikSport

London - Arsenal dikabarkan mengincar Jonny Evans.

Soal Evans, Wenger memang masih enggan bicara banyak.

Default Re: Jonathan Grant "Jonny" Evans

Jonny Evans is revered by Sir Alex Ferguson, courted by Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger and is a top pro, so why did West Brom defender end up riding in that stolen taxi?

* West Brom's Jonny Evans was in a cohort of four who stole a taxi in Barcelona
* He, Gareth Barry, Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill, broke curfew on Thursday
* Alan Pardew's side took a training trip to Spain a few days before FA Cup match
* The Baggies were beaten 2-1 by Southampton at home on Saturday afternoon
* West Brom are at the bottom of the Premier League, seven points adrift of safety

Amid the fall-out from that night in Barcelona, perhaps the most intriguing questions centre on the involvement of Jonny Evans.

Here was the West Bromwich Albion captain in a cohort of four stealing a taxi in the city little over 48 hours before a match.

Schooled by Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, Evans has previously been known for his professionalism, but the mask slipped in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The incident came little more than two weeks after Evans failed to secure a move away from the Hawthorns, with the club seemingly sleep-walking into the Championship. He’s available for £3million should they end up relegated.

Manchester City were more serious in discussing a move for Evans than Arsenal, whose interest was fairly subdued as they acquired other targets. City ended up buying Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao, leaving Evans staring at a battle for survival as the promise of something altogether more satisfying never materialised.

Maybe one or more of those factors crept into his subconscious when, along with Gareth Barry, Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill, they chose to break manager Alan Pardew’s training trip curfew.

West Brom defender Jonny Evans was one of four who stole a taxi in Barcelona last week

Pardew decided to strip Evans of the captain’s armband for the visit of Southampton, and the manager will decide this week whether to make that permanent. Thankfully for Pardew, Evans was strong in this game, and his manager was happy with his contribution in unfamiliar surroundings at left back. One recovery challenge as the visitors broke at pace was exemplary and kept the deficit before half-time to one goal.

Questions still need answering following the escapades in Spain and Pardew’s job remains under severe threat after another defeat. The manager said he will be at the training ground ‘bright and early’ on Monday morning.

Albion’s performance after half-time was encouraging, with the crowd vociferous all afternoon. Yet the wisdom of taking the trip in the days before an FA Cup fifth-round tie will surely be swirling around Pardew’s head. He admitted to not knowing the players ‘socially’ and it backfired spectacularly.

That the jaunt, which sources say was largely relaxation, was planned before the Liverpool tie last month points to the mindset at West Brom right now. They didn’t go to Anfield expecting to win.

Leicester trigger £3million release clause in Jonny Evans' contract and could finalise deal to sign defender from West Brom this week

* Leicester trigger £3m release clause in Jonny Evans' West Brom contract
* £4million agent's fee was proving prohibitive but negotiations have progressed
* Deal to bring Evans to Leicester could now be completed this week

Leicester have triggered the £3m release clause in Jonny Evans's contract and a move could be completed this week.

Sportsmail reported on May 18 that Leicester were working hard on signing the West Bromwich Albion defender but a £4m agent's fee was proving prohibitive.

Negotiations over that additional sum have now progressed to the point where Leicester have contacted West Brom to make the formal bid that, according to terms, must be accepted.

Leicester have triggered the £3million release clause in Jonny Evans' contract. The West Brom defender could now complete a move to Leicester by the end of the week

Leicester have tried to sign Evans, 30, for the last three transfer windows and saw a £23m offer rejected last summer.

The club now finally look to be closing in on their long-term target, with a deal understood to be worth £100,000 per week on the table for the Northern Ireland international.

Evans had attracted interest from Manchester City and Arsenal and was waiting to see if either side would return this summer, but each is looking at different options.

Leicester want to partner Evans with Harry Maguire at the heart of defence. Evans should become Claude Puel's second transfer of the window after Porto right-back Ricardo Pereira joined for £22m.

Default Re: Jonathan Grant "Jonny" Evans

Interview pertama Evans dengan media internal Leicester City..

I Couldn’t Turn Leicester City Down, Says Evans

The Northern Ireland international defender made the switch to King Power Stadium from West Bromwich Albion on Friday for an undisclosed fee.

The central defender agreed a three-year deal with the Foxes and in an exclusive interview with LCFC TV, he revealed his reasons for joining the Club.

“I’m happy it’s all gone through and obviously I wanted my future sorted quickly, and this opportunity came up and it was one that I couldn’t turn down really,” Evans said.

“I think it’s an ambitious Club, the owner’s ambitious and everyone involved that I’ve spoken to want to push the Club on.

“Obviously, they’ve got good players and a great stadium to play at, there was a lot of factors that came into it and it was one that really excited me.”

Four consecutive seasons in the Premier League – lifting the title in 2015/16 – and a campaign in the UEFA Champions League has given Leicester City significant presence on the footballing stage.

“I think whenever a club like Leicester taste that bit of success it’s something that they know is achievable,” he continued.

“It gives them that sort of ambition to taste more of that success and I think that’s something that the Club are. They’re ambitious they want to achieve things and hopefully I can be a part of that.

“I hope that I can come here and add a lot to the team and the Club and it’s something that I’ll be trying to do. Most players do their talking on the pitch and I want to be able to do that and show the ability I’ve got.”

Evans will join a squad that includes both experienced and youthful defenders and he feels he can contribute significantly during his debut campaign at the Club.

“I don’t think that at any stage of your career you stop learning,” said the 30-year-old. “I want to keep learning myself and progress, improve, hopefully they’ll be players I can learn things from too.

“Obviously, there’s the other side of it I do have experience in the Premier League I can add things to the younger lads hopefully going forward.

“I think the most important thing as a player is to feel valuable in a team and hopefully I can bring that.”

With City’s Premier League fixtures released on Wednesday, Evans will find out when he could potentially make a much-anticipated maiden appearance at King Power Stadium.

Speaking of Filbert Way, Evans said: “The stadium’s got a great atmosphere to it, it’s always been a really good place to play.

“They really get behind the team here and as I say, little things like that all added together in my decision to join the Club.

“The players, there’s some fantastic players at the Football Club, and those are the things I’m looking forward to being able to work with these players day in day out and see the quality they have up close, and hopefully improve as well.”

Evans says he is looking forward to linking up with former Manchester United, Royal Antwerp and Sunderland team-mate Danny Simpson, who has been one of Leicester’s most consistent performers since joining from Queens Park Rangers in 2014.

“I think football can be a small world at times,” he continued. “I think I’ve known Simmo since I was probably 10 years-old so we go back a long way we spent a couple of loan spells together at teams and it’ll be great to get the same again and have a good chat with him.

“There’s players in and around football that you know one day you’re going to cross paths with again, and it’ll be great to play alongside him.”

Described as a leader by manager Claude Puel, Evans brings with him a wealth of experience and talent having lifted the Premier League trophy on three occasions.

“I think I’m calm,” said Evans. “I think I’m pretty quiet. I think I try and lead by example as much as I can, and if I can give some advice I will do it, but it’ll be in a quiet way. That’s just the way I like to do things.

“I think I read the game quite well and I’m quite composed in situations. I like to try and get the ball down and play football if I can and pass the ball through the lines of the pitch.

“So maybe they were things that Leicester were looking at and hope that I can add to the team.”

Evans became the Club’s second signing of the transfer window following Ricardo Pereira’s arrival last month. Now, he says he will enjoy the summer with his family before reporting back for his first pre-season as a Leicester City player.

“I’m sure it’s beneficial for the Football Club,” said Evans of how swiftly the deal was completed.

“For me personally I wanted to get my future sorted quickly so I’ve got a target to look forward to and an aim and it gives you that little bit of focus.

“I can go away now with my family on holiday, and really get my mind on it and when I come back I’ll be ready for it.”

Having represented Northern Ireland at Euro 2016, Evans revealed he will be keeping a close eye on how the 2018 FIFA World Cup unfolds in Russia this summer.

He added: “I think having played against Germany in the group stages of qualification, I was so impressed with how much of a good team they are and such a good unit.

“They’ve got some very good players and we played against them in the Euros obviously in France and had a tough game against them.

“I’ve been very impressed with them over the years and they’ll probably be a team I’ve become a fan of, and a team that I’ll be watching very closely.”

'I think he and Man United are a perfect match and he's exactly what they need': Jonny Evans hails former teammate Harry Maguire's record switch to Old Trafford

* Jonny Evans believes former partner Harry Maguire is a good fit at Old Trafford
* The 31-year-old Northern Irishman will face off against his old team on Saturday
* Evans admitted that England international Maguire's record move 'made sense'
* The defender believes that Maguire's natural ability will help justify his fee

Harry Maguire is the 'perfect match' for Manchester United, says his former Leicester City team-mate Jonny Evans.

Maguire faces his former club for the first time since a £80million summer move at Old Trafford on Saturday when ex-United defender Evans also comes up against his old team.

The Northern Irishman knows what it takes to make it at United, and he believes Maguire was an ideal fit when they made him the most expensive defender in world football.

Jonny Evans believes former teammate Harry Maguire is a perfect match for Man United

'I think it was a move that made sense,' said Evans. 'Obviously we are disappointed that we lost such a good player. I think with the money Man United really wanted him and he wanted to go.

'I think he and Man United are a perfect match and he's exactly what they need at this moment in time.

'I think he has the personality for it and he has the qualities for it. He is a player who will go into the team and is a fan's favourite wherever he goes.

Leicester centre half Evans admitted the club were disappointed to lose Maguire this summer. The two defenders (left) were partners at the King Power Stadium before Maguire's move

'I came to Leicester and the impact he made in the one season, the season before I'd been there, with the World Cup and England and everyone wants to sing his name, I think he is a bit of a cult hero Harry.

'I think the way he plays and his personality that he shows on the pitch is exactly what United need.'

Asked how Maguire learns to live his record price tag, Evans added: 'I don't know, I've not been in that position!

'It's up to him to deal with it. Harry would come into training, get his work done, he'd been one of the first in the shower and he'd go home. He always wanted to go home to spend time with his family and his friends. That's just the way he is.

'He has natural ability, comes in, blasts out his work in the gym and away he goes. He is obviously very proud about where he comes from and that.'

'He walks into the team when you look at what they have at the back': Graeme Souness insists Jonny Evans is still good enough to start for Manchester United... after the Red Devils shelled out record £80m for Harry Maguire

* The Liverpool legend talked up Evans' ability on the ball and spacial awareness

Graeme Souness believes Jonny Evans is good enough to walk back into Manchester United's starting XI.

Souness believes the Northern Irishman is 'yet to hit his peak' and has all the attributes to thrive in the modern game.

Evans was an academy graduate at Old Trafford and went on to make 198 appearances in an 11-year spell for the Red Devils.

The 31-year-old left United for West Brom in 2015 before ultimately finding his feet at the King Power Stadium three years later.

And it's at Leicester where Evans has become one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League, with Souness labelling the defender as 'top class'.

'Jonny Evans and [Caglar] Soyuncu will enjoy that midfield in front of them,' Souness said on Sky Sports before the Foxes' clash with Newcastle. 'Evans is 31 and has maybe not hit his peak yet.

'He walks into the Manchester United team for me when you look at what United have at the back.

'He can make passes, senses danger. He’s all round a top class centre-half for me.'

The former Liverpool skipper was also critical of United's midfield and warned that United's spending on defenders 'will all be money down the drain' if they are unable to improve in the centre of the park.

Souness told The Sunday Times: 'Until they fix it (their midfield), United's back five will be fire-fighting.

'They can spend massively on Maguire, give Victor Lindelof a new five-year deal, De Gea four more lucrative years and sign Wan-Bissaka for £50million and it will all be money down the drain.'

And while United have taken just eight points from their six Premier League games so far, and have been vulnerable defensively, Souness refused to blame the likes of Maguire.

Souness continued: 'United are trying to rebuild from the back after signing Harry Maguire from Leicester City for £80m and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace for £50m.

'I rate Maguire. He will be disappointed with how it's gone so far, but I'd not put it all at his door'.
