New order: Modern day Manchester United adjusting to different horizons where a win over Leicester is a relief

* Manchester United are currently in a process of adjusting to different horizons
* United had to battle to secure a 1-0 victory at home to Leicester on Saturday
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is tasked with overseeing gradual improvement

Harry Maguire clenched his fists in triumph and a wave of relief swept around Old Trafford.

Manchester United had beaten his former club, the previously undefeated Leicester City who arrived here fancied by many to win this game.

In doing so, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side moved above their opponents into the top four and quietened talk of an early-season crisis after three games without a win.

Manchester United had to work hard to beat Leicester and have to adjust to new horizons

Had they lost, the alarm bells would have been ringing. Victory, albeit an ugly one, has put a much healthier complexion on United’s start to the season. Win, draw, defeat, draw, win. Not great, but no need to panic.

There we have it, the modern-day Manchester United, adjusting to new horizons and the reality of their place in the new order.

This is where home wins over Leicester, in what one travel information board on the A56 into Old Trafford on Saturday mockingly referred to as ‘the race for sixth’, are now a cause for celebration.

This is how it is going to be for the foreseeable future. When the club abandoned the quick-fix approach of recent years and put their faith in Solskjaer to oversee a more gradual improvement, they knew it would be the case.

Asked on the eve of this game what he thought of Paul Scholes’ assessment that United’s title chances can be written off for the next two years, Solskjaer didn’t disagree. ‘Paul knows what it is to be a United player and looking at the difference between us and City and Liverpool last year, you don’t expect us to challenge straight away,’ he said.

Gary Neville was even more blunt as he called for the club to be patient with their manager.

‘Give him three to four transfer windows to clean up the trash in the dressing room, because there is trash in there,’ said Neville.

At least this summer’s transfer business has improved United — which hasn’t always been the case in recent years.

New signings Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were again two of their better performers here. Maguire, in particular, will be pleased with how it went against Leicester after their fans turned on him over his £80million move to Old Trafford.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United are expecting gradual change rather than instant success. Scott McTominay was impressive in midfield for United, with youth getting a chance

‘F**k off Maguire, we don’t need you, we’ve got Soyuncu’, they sang for all of seven minutes before Caglar Soyuncu upended Marcus Rashford, who picked himself up to score the only goal from the penalty spot.

Scott McTominay was United’s other outstanding player and one benefit of a longer- term strategy under Solskjaer is that youth will get a chance.

‘That’s good because in big clubs they don’t always get opportunities because of the pressure and the results and because everyone wants to win,’ said veteran midfielder Nemanja Matic.

On the balance of play, Leicester would not have been flattered at all by a draw, but they struggled to convert their possession into opportunities — James Maddison and Wilfred Ndidi squandering chances at either end of the match.

Maddison has been tipped to follow Maguire to United one day and certainly looked at home on the big stage, even though he couldn’t quite provide the creative spark required this time.

‘He’s a big talent and we’re just trying to prepare him in order for him to play at the highest level for as long as he can,’ said Brendan Rodgers, the Leicester boss.

‘He’s a really humble boy with a lovely swagger and a lovely arrogance. He’s got a really strong belief in his ability and it’s not misplaced.

‘I remember working with Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool. Sometimes he’d play inside and sometimes he’d drift off the side. James is a little bit like that.’

While United turn their attentions to the Europa League and Astana of Kazakhstan at Old Trafford on Thursday, Rodgers can focus on Tottenham on Saturday.

Something else he experienced at Liverpool was the benefit of not being involved in Europe. It helped him go agonisingly close to the title in 2014 and may do so again in the bid for a top-six finish.

‘It does help,’ said Rodgers. ‘Having had the season at Liverpool where we weren’t and went close, there’s no doubt about that. But it’s a massive jump because we finished ninth last year.

‘We’re going to fight, we’re going to work and we want to play like a big team. We’ll get better for days like these.’

'This is the WORST group Manchester United have had since the Premier League started... they will struggle to get into the top six': Roy Keane, Jose Mourinho and Graeme Souness TEAR into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's flops after abject defeat at West Ham

* Manchester United lost 2-0 to West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday
* The Red Devils have won just two of their opening six games of the season
* Roy Keane, Jose Mourinho and Graeme Souness slammed the United team

Roy Keane, Jose Mourinho and Graeme Souness did not hold back as they assessed Manchester United's abject performance against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the London Stadium, Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell getting the goals.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men were well beaten and the result leaves them eighth in the Premier League, having won just two of their opening six games.

Jose Mourinho (left) and Roy Keane were far from impressed with Manchester United

Souness was particularly damning in his critique of the team, saying 'this is the worst group Manchester United have ever had since the Premier League started.'

'I think Man United find themselves in a very very difficult place,' he continued. 'The problems started long before Jose got there. From the minute Fergie left.

'I'm not just blaming the managers. I think the people making football decisions have got to hold their hands up and say we've made some pretty awful decisions along the way.'

Mourinho was sacked by United last season but he believes this team is worse than the one he left behind.

Graeme Souness believes this is the worst group United squad in Premier League history. The Sky Sports pundits could barely find words to sum up how poor United's display was

'They are far (from Liverpool and City),' he admitted. 'The sad reality is that they are worse than before. For me it is a sad thing. Maybe people think I am enjoying the situation but I am not enjoying it at all.

'I think they are going really really to be in trouble to get not just into the top four but the top six. It is with a sad feeling that I say that. This team is worse than last season.'

Unsurprisingly former United captain Roy Keane was equally damning in his assessment.

'You look at the first goal and it sums up where Manchester united are at the moment,' said the outspoken Irishman, who was making his punditry debut on Sky Sports.

'The young boy James has come in and they're almost depending on him to try and win them every game. He's a young kid coming from Swansea. I feel for Ole, his head must be spinning.

'I've be saying it for at least a couple of years, they're just not good enough, a lot of these players. They are not good enough for Manchester United. It's as simple as that.'

'You'd have been LYNCHED': Roy Keane criticises Manchester United's expectations... and says players would have been slammed for settling for fourth place if he was in dressing room

* The new Sky Sports pundit slammed his former side before clash with West Ham
* Roy Keane compared United expectations to what had previously been asked
* The outspoken Irishman explained that: 'You're playing for Man United to win'
* Keane also raised doubts over the suitability of United's recruitment policy
* Ex-United boss Jose Mourinho believes the club won't finish above fourth spot

Roy Keane has slammed Manchester United's lowered expectations for this season and believes that finishing fourth would be a poor achievement in comparison to the club's former glory days.

The outspoken Irishman, speaking on Sky Sports, believes that players would have been 'lynched' in the dressing room in his day for settling for anything less than a title challenge.

Ahead of United's clash with West Ham on Sunday, Keane said: 'You're playing for Man United to win. God help me if in our dressing room someone mentioned can we finish fourth as a great achievement, you'd have been lynched.'

Roy Keane slammed Man United's lowered expectations of a fourth place finish this season. Keane raised doubts over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the United's recruitment policy this summer

The former United captain has been vocal in expressing his disapproval at the club's dramatic fall from grace in recent years, and once again was on hand to share his divisive opinions about the Old Trafford outfit.

Keane also raised doubts over the top flight giants' recruitment policy, but believes that the club's young prospects should be allowed the opportunity to prove themselves.

He added: 'I think they've made a number of mistakes over the last few years regarding recruitment no doubt and I think they had to go down that road. It's so early in the season, I think we've got to give these lads a chance to mature at the club.

Jose Mourinho believes United will be unable to finish higher than fourth spot this season

'The only concern I'd have with the three players that came in is the clubs they came from, they're not used to winning week in, week out like what you'd expect from a Man United player.

'You also hope the senior players will give them a helping hand and I've had doubts about that for a number of years.

'They had to go down that road. A bit younger, obviously Maguire's not that young, but hungry players.

'Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) had to make these changes but only time will tell if they're going to work. The way they've started the season… the jury's still out.'

Former Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho also featured in Sky's coverage of the meeting at the London Stadium.

The Portuguese tactician revealed his belief that United would be unable to push higher than a fourth place finish this season, adding: 'I think they will finish between fourth and sixth.

'That's my point of view and I don't think they are a team capable of fighting for the top two, of course.

'I think it would be a good achievement for them to finish top four and to be back in the Champions League. It's very important for everybody to share and agree with the club's objectives.

'If internally the objective is to finish top four and build from there and not at all the team thinking this season about fighting for the title then I think it is a perfect environment to try to bring some young players and to try to build something for the future.'

Problems mounting at Manchester United with coach Kieran McKenna's training sessions questioned and Marcus Rashford a moody presence

* Mike Phelan found himself stuck in the car park after they got off the train
* It is tempting to offer it as a wholly appropriate analogy for a club struggling
* Manchester United had done so much to underline the problem at West Ham
* It's not so much 'Ole's at the wheel' as 'Ole and Co are stuck in reverse'

After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and a number of his players got off the train from London at Stockport station on Sunday night, assistant boss Mike Phelan was one of the Manchester United contingent who found themselves stuck in the car park owing to a problem at the front of the queue.

It is tempting to offer it as a wholly appropriate analogy for a club struggling to move forward, particularly as United had done so much to underline the problem at West Ham several hours earlier. Not so much 'Ole's at the wheel' as 'Ole and Co are stuck in reverse'.

Not for the first time in recent years, it was a long and rather miserable journey back from the capital for United following an abject 2-0 defeat at the London Stadium. Not as miserable as it had been known to be under Jose Mourinho, who curiously seemed more adept at identifying United's problems during a couple of hours in the Sky Sports studio than he did in two and a half years as manager.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has tried to stay positive, just as he has throughout a difficult start

Typically, Solskjaer tried to stay positive, just as he has throughout a difficult start to the season. There was no recrimination, no inquest, just as there had been no desire to berate his injury-hit team at West Ham.

'He told the players a few home truths afterwards, but there were no b******ings,' revealed one source on Monday.

There is an acceptance at United that Solskjaer is overseeing a long-term rebuild and patience is required.

In the short-term, he is having to tackle serious injury problems after Marcus Rashford joined Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly and Mason Greenwood on the sidelines, leaving midfielder Jesse Lingard to lead the attack for the final half hour against West Ham.

But there are deeper issues developing at Old Trafford that cannot be ignored.

Above all, a squad branded by Graeme Souness as United's worst in the Premier League era is clearly not good enough.

Patrice Evra has been studying for his coaching badges at Carrington recently and is said to be shocked by the drop in standards since he left. It's worth remembering Evra's final season at United was not winning another title with Sir Alex Ferguson but the beginning of the club's decline under David Moyes.

The Frenchman is understood to share the view of some at United that there are too many staff around the first team these days and as a result the players are pampered.

Evra can also see the lack of quality and leadership in this United squad, as can the players themselves. The feeling in the camp was that United got away with one by beating Leicester 1-0 at home 10 days ago before reality bit again at West Ham.

There are concerns over several areas behind the scenes. For instance, some players harbour reservations over Kieran McKenna having such a key role in first-team training little more than a year after being promoted from the Under 18s. His sessions are thought by some to be more suited to the academy.

Some players harbour reservations over Kieran McKenna having such a key role at the club

United's lethargy on Sunday also alarmed coaching staff who have spent the summer whipping the players into shape after admitting that fitness levels were not good enough when Solskjaer replaced Mourinho in December. It's not as if the Europa League can be used as an excuse either, because Rashford and Nemanja Matic were the only players to start against both Astana and West Ham.

Rashford pulled up with a groin injury after an hour and United's sports science department are said to be perturbed by the number of players breaking down so early in the season given that most of them are non-contact injuries.

The England striker had every reason to be unhappy as he was helped off at the London Stadium, but Rashford's downcast mood around the club has been noted for some time during a period in which his form has dipped with only one goal from open play in 15 games.

It has raised more questions over United's decision to allow Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to leave this summer without signing a replacement striker, instead relying on young forwards such as Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes, who may not be ready to make the step up yet.

On more than one occasion at the London Stadium, the cameras focused on Old Trafford chief Ed Woodward in the directors' box as former United defender Gary Neville criticised the club's transfer policy on commentary.

Such is the focus on Woodward these days, it was later alleged on social media that he turned to Phil Jones and said, 'We're on camera, stop', after he heard the player muttering along to the West Ham fans taunting Solskjaer with a chorus of, 'You're getting sacked in the morning'.

Sources close to Jones dismissed those suggestions on Monday night, while Woodward is adamant that he was talking to another member of staff and asked, 'Has he been booked, Diop?' following a foul by the West Ham player.

It will not be the last time United are forced to defend themselves in the difficult period that lies ahead.

Things are likely to get worse before Solskjaer can make them any better.

Manchester United back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite dismal form and are ready to give him funds in January to strengthen squad

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have dropped to eighth place in the Premier League
* Manchester United have now lost 10 of their last 19 games in all competitions
* However, the Red Devils put the Norwegian in charge of a rebuilding process
* United accept that it will take time for him to turn the club's fortunes around

Manchester United believe manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still the right man for the job, despite the club's dismal form.

Solskjaer's side dropped to eighth place in the Premier League following Sunday's 2-0 defeat at West Ham and have now lost 10 of their last 19 games in all competitions.

However, United put the Norwegian in charge of a rebuilding process when he was appointed full-time in March and accept that it will take time for him to turn the club's fortunes around.

Manchester United believe manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still the right man for the job

They will back Solskjaer in the January transfer window if he wants to strengthen his squad again after spending nearly £150million this summer on Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Dan James. In particular, United are in need of a striker, having allowed Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to leave without signing a replacement.

The decision has backfired after Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were injured, while teenage prospect Mason Greenwood missed the West Ham game with tonsillitis.

The groin injury Rashford suffered at the London Stadium on Sunday is still being assessed amid fears he could be out of action until after the international break next month.

If the United striker is ruled out of England's Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, his place in the squad is set to go to Chelsea's Tammy Abraham.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'told players they bored him and he was embarrassed' by performance in West Ham defeat

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left furious with his players after West Ham defeat
* The Manchester United boss told them he was 'embarrassed' by their display
* Ed Woodward insisted he'd back Solskjaer despite poor start to the season

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer delivered some home truths to his players after they 'embarrassed' him in the defeat at West Ham.

United put in a lethargic performance as they were easily swept aside 2-0 on the weekend and Solskjaer is said to have laid into his players with both barrels.

According to The Sun, the under-fire boss told his squad at half-time they were boring him and that he was left humiliated by the result come the full-time whistle.

Despite United's underwhelming start to the new campaign, Solskjaer received a vote of confidence from chairman Ed Woodward, who vowed on Tuesday to make funds available to strengthen in the January transfer window.

Since being appointed as United boss on a full-time basis back in March, Solskjaer has won just five of his 17 games in charge.

The Norwegian is increasingly looking like a frustrated figure on the touchline with his reign threatening to unravel.

After Sunday's loss, Solskjaer accused his players of lacking urgency and of panicking in the final third.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tore into his Manchester United players after West Ham defeat. The United boss told them that he was embarrassed by their performance in the 2-0 loss

Morale in the squad is understood to be at an all-time low after their poor start to the season.

The United boss also has a striker crisis to contend with, having been left with just three - all of whom are not fully fit - following the summer sales of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan.

Wednesday's Carabao Cup match against League One Rochdale provides Solskjaer with another opportunity to blood United's youngsters and he is hopeful Anthony Martial and 17-year-old Mason Greenwood will be able to play some part.

Marcus Rashford is out with a groin injury - which he suffered at West Ham on the weekend - so Solskjaer will want to get some miles in the legs of his only other two recognisable forwards ahead of their Premier League clash with rivals Arsenal.

'You don't sit back and think that's good enough': Ole Gunnar Solskjaer urges his Man United players to be more ruthless after sluggish win over Rochdale... and jokes 'we're better in penalty shoot-outs than we are in proper games'

* Paul Pogba squandered a glorious chance to break the deadlock with a header
* Aaron Wan-Bissaka came to United's rescue to make a goal-line clearance
* However, Mason Greenwood did get United's opener to relieve some pressure
* The pressure was then put back on United when Luke Matheson, 16, equalised
* Keohane missed Rochdale's penalty while United were flawless in the shootout

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United's young players need to quickly learn to kill off games after Rochdale gave them a scare in the Carabao Cup.

After Sunday's chastening Premier League loss at West Ham, things were almost compounded as 16-year-old Luke Matheson stunned Old Trafford by cancelling out fellow teenager Mason Greenwood's effort to secure a 1-1 draw.

Sergio Romero saved the day by denying Jimmy Keohane to secure a 5-3 penalty shoot-out victory, saving United from an embarrassing third-round exit to the plucky League One side.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged his Manchester United players to be more ruthless

It was a let-off for Solskjaer's men and a further reminder of the need to make their chances count, having converted just one of their 31 shots on the night.

'We go 1-0 up in many games,' the United boss said.

'Today it's again go 1-0 up and you think 'go on then, get the second' which is the key now and that is learning curve for these boys as well.

'We need to go for a second.

'At this club you don't just sit back and hope that's enough good. If you settle for good enough, that's not what we want.'

This performance raised more questions than it answered, but 17-year-old Greenwood was one of the few positives after wriggling free to score in front of the Stretford End - just as he did in the Europa League against Astana last week.

Man United advance to fourth round of the Carabao Cup after beating Rochdale on penalties

'He has two great feet and (took the) penalty with his right, so he must be a nightmare for defenders having him one on one in the box,' Solskjaer said.

'He can go both ways, which is for me fantastic and you can just see he has got quality and he will get his share of games.

'But he is young, we'll allow him to grow slowly but surely.'

Yet Solskjaer is not afraid to throw the 17-year-old in at the deep end and would have no problems starting him in fourth round draw when United head to Chelsea.

'If you want to win it, you have to beat the best,' the manager said.

'We play them first game of the season this year. We played them in the FA Cup last year and it slots into a couple of weeks with loads of travelling.'

The Carabao Cup draw means United will have four successive away games, with trips to Norwich, Partizan Belgrade, Chelsea and Bournemouth as October turns to November.

'That's how it is,' Solskjaer said. 'And we have got to make the best out of it - and I am sure we are because that's the type of group this is, that's the type of club we are.

'We are not going to say 'argh', we're going to relish it and look forward to it.'

As for Rochdale manager Brian Barry-Murphy, the overriding emotion was pride after going so close to one of the most famous wins in the club's history.

'I think the lads are drained, really,' he said. 'I think they feel like they shouldn't be celebrating but they are.

'They're a very young group of guys and challenged themselves to put on a performance that they thought we were capable of producing.

'We kind of displayed our personality I felt throughout the game and that was the most rewarding thing for me, for what the lads displayed of themselves.'

Graeme Souness warns Manchester United's spending on defenders 'will all be money down the drain' unless they improve their midfield

* Graeme Souness says Manchester United's defensive spending could be wasted
* United paid £80million for Harry Maguire and £60m for Aaron Wan-Bissaka
* In addition, David de Gea and Victor Lindelof signed new contracts recently
* Souness stressed that United must focus on improving their midfield

Graeme Souness has warned that Manchester United's spending on defenders 'will all be money down the drain' if they are unable to improve their midfield.

United brought in Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for £80million and £50m respectively in the summer transfer window, while they have also tied Victor Lindelof and goalkeeper David de Gea to lucrative new contracts.

However, Souness believes that United's midfield is making matters considerably more difficult for the defence.

Graeme Souness has warned that Manchester United need to improve their midfield. Souness says that money spent on defenders will be wasted if United's midfield isn't improved

Souness told The Sunday Times: 'Until they fix it (their midfield), United's back five will be fire-fighting.

'They can spend massively on Maguire, give Victor Lindelof a new five-year deal, De Gea four more lucrative years and sign Wan-Bissaka for £50million and it will all be money down the drain.'

United have taken just eight points from their six Premier League games so far, and have been vulnerable defensively, but Souness has refused to blame the likes of Harry Maguire.

Souness said: 'United are trying to rebuild from the back after signing Harry Maguire from Leicester City for £80m and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace for £50m.

'I rate Maguire. He will be disappointed with how it's gone so far, but I'd not put it all at his door'.

Souness instead criticised United's midfield, with the likes of Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic having struggled in the defeat to West Ham United last weekend.,

Souness said: 'When a team is conceding goals, people focus on the goalkeeper and back four. Their mistakes, their vulnerability, how they seem to be caught out of position.

'But most of the time that's because the midfield in front of them are not doing their job properly, so they have to step out and confront situations or make saves.'

Souness was also critical of Paul Pogba and added United's midfield is too easy to play against

'Their midfielders were under the illusion they were doing their jobs because they were goal side, but when somebody in 20 yards from goal you can't allow them to get their head up as West Ham's midfielders did before Andriy Yarmolenko scored.

'United's midfield are too easy to play against. Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and co should have been sprinting out to put West Ham's midfielders under pressure.'

Paul Pogba also came in for criticism from Souness, who said: 'Pogba's first thought is to show everybody how clever and cute he can be. If that's the example your main man in midfield is setting, you're too easy to play against, and until they fix it, United's back five will be fire-fighting.'

United, who required penalties to beat Rochdale in the Carabao Cup in midweek, host Arsenal in the Premier League on Monday night.

'I never said this was going to be a quick-fix job... Rome wasn't built in a day': Ole Gunnar Solskjaer calls for patience as he rebuilds Man United

* Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has asked for patience
* After recent struggles, United have had some concerning results this season
* Solskjaer admits he has an angry side but doesn't show it outside dressing room

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called for patience as he continues the process of attempting to rebuild Manchester United.

A concerning start to the campaign has seen United take just six points from their first eight Premier League games, while the club haven't won the title since 2013.

Solskjaer, who was initially appointed as caretaker boss before taking over on a permanent basis, says that he was never going to improve United's fortunes overnight.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called for patience as he tries to rebuild Manchester United. Solskjaer admits he has an angry side but doesn't tend to show it outside of the dressing room

Solskjaer told Sky Sports: 'It's not like the situation we had last year. There's no lack of desire there.

'For us it's about building a new culture, building a new team, bringing everybody together. Is it the job I expected? Yes. I never said this was going to be a quick-fix job. It's step after step after step.'

'Of course, we've hit a few bumps in the road, I never said this was going to be a quick-fix job. Rome wasn't built in a day.

'We need time, and the attitude of the boys has been great. [We must] keep working on improving the understanding and relationships between all players, and the style we want to play.'

Solskjaer believes Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James will stay at United for many years

Solskjaer believes that summer signings Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, who are both aged 21, will be important players for United for many years, while Harry Maguire will also have a major part to play.

Solskjaer said: 'I think hard work is important, but you have to do the right work. I think we've got further in our shape work when we haven't got the ball than when we do have the ball. To create is more difficult than to stop.

'If you look at Aaron and Dan, 21-year-olds, they're coming in and doing a good job. We're not expecting them to be leaders, but they'll have longevity, and they'll stay in the club and the team for many, many years.

'Harry is a different player; he was the one centre-back we wanted, and the one we felt was the missing jigsaw in that defence. He was for now and the future, because he's only 26. I'm delighted with those three, both for now, and for the future.'

After the 2-0 defeat to West Ham last weekend, Roy Keane said that he could tell his former United team-mate was angry.

Drawn: 7

Win ratio: 51.4 per cent
Solskjaer admits that he gets frustrated but says that, outside of the dressing room, he likes to keep his anger concealed.

He said: 'Why wouldn't you be angry when you lose a game? Of course you're angry within. That's one thing; you put pressure on yourself, and you're competitive.

'I want to win every single training session. I wanted to beat Roy in cards on the team coach! But I don't show it to everyone.

'Maybe the ones who know me the best will see how I feel. I can't go out [like that], I manage my way, and lead the players my way, and I lead these players the way I deem to be right, and what's said in the dressing room is said in there, and it stays there.'

After requiring penalties to beat Rochdale in the Carabao Cup, United return to Premier League action on Monday night as they host Arsenal.

'It's not as bad as you make it out to be': Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he has 'loads of confidence' in his Man United players... despite their worst start to a season in 30 YEARS!

* The Red Devils drew 1-1 at home to top-four rivals Arsenal on Monday night
* The United boss insists there are plenty of positives even though his side sit 10th
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was disappointed that his side let another lead slip

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still has confidence in his players despite it being Manchester United's worst start to a season in 30 years.

The Red Devils drew 1-1 at home to top-four rivals Arsenal on Monday night having taken the lead through Scott McTominay.

The United boss insists there are plenty of positives even though his side sit 10th in the table and are 12 points off leaders Liverpool.

The Red Devils drew 1-1 at home to top-four rivals Arsenal on Monday night at Old Trafford

'There are many things that give me loads of confidence,' the United manager said.

'We can talk about performance but it's results that matter. You can talk about results, I can talk about six out of seven good performances.

'West Ham, we know, was below par [losing 2-0] but it wasn't as bad as you lot made it out to be.'

Solskjaer was disappointed, however that his side let another lead slip.

'How many times have we been 1-0 up and not got the second goal?' Solskjær said.

'This is a steep learning curve for us and we'll keep working hard and, with more experience, we'll make the right decisions.

'It's another game that we're 1-0 up – Southampton, Wolverhampton, we need to learn to win these games.'
