Default Amad Diallo Traore

DIALLO TO JOIN MANCHESTER UNITED IN JANUARY

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta for the future transfer of Amad Diallo, one of the most exciting young prospects in Italian football.

The 18-year-old Ivorian right-winger has been on the radar of United scouts since 2016, when he was spotted playing at Under-15 level, and the club have been tracking his progress since.

Diallo scored on his Serie A debut in the first of three first-team appearances last season, after rising through the youth ranks at Atalanta.

He will join United at a later date, subject to medical, personal terms and work permit.

The move follows the capture of Brazil full-back Alex Telles from Porto earlier in the day.

Manchester United complete move for Atalanta's Amad Traore with 18-year-old winger set to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side in January

* Man United have completed move for Atalanta's 18-year-old winger Amad Traore
* The Red Devils have endured a frustrating summer transfer window so far
* They have only brought in Donny van de Beek in a £40million deal from Ajax

Manchester United have completed a move for Atalanta's 18-year-old winger Amad Traore with just hours of the transfer window remaining.

The youngster made his debut for the Serie A side last season and was part of the club's squad for their Champions League quarter-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

Traore will remain at Atalanta before joining up with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men in January.

Manchester United have completed a move for Atalanta's 18-year-old winger Amad Traore

Traore, who has played just 30 minutes of Serie A football, was close to sealing a move to Parma but the switch has failed to materialise.

The club say that his transfer remains subject to a medical, personal terms and work permit.

The Red Devils have endured a frustrating summer with midfielder Donny van de Beek their only addition so far in a £40million deal.

The 18-year-old winger will remain in Italy before completing the move in January. Traore, who has been linked with United this summer, has played just 30 minutes in Serie A

It's no secret that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been keen to add new faces as he continues his Old Trafford rebuild.

United's priority target all summer has been Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho but they are yet to stump up the Bundesliga side's £108million asking price.

Ousmane Dembele's proposed move to Manchester United collapsed after an agreement with Barcelona could not be reached over the terms of the transfer.

Manchester United 'chased incredible talent Amad Diallo for more than a year' before agreeing deal worth up to £37m, reveals ex-Italy goalkeeper Giovanni Galli as he recalls discovering wonderkid

* Manchester United splashed out on teenage talent Amad Diallo Traore
* Deadline day signing cost £37million and is expected to move in January
* He was first discovered by Giovanni Galli who also talent spotted his brother
* Galli says United have been tracking Amad for more than one year before move

The man who first talent spotted new Manchester United signing Amad Diallo has revealed the club had been chasing the 'incredible talent' for more than a year.

United wrapped up a deadline day move for the Atalanta prospect worth an initial £21m that could rise to £37m with add-ons. He is expected to complete the switch in January, subject to a medical, personal terms and a work permit.

Giovanni Galli, who played in goal for Italy in the 1980s, recalls first seeing Amad and his brother Hamed play for the first time back in 2014 in his role as Lucchese’s sporting director.

Amad Traore's talent was first spotted by former Italian goalkeeper Giovanni Galli. United announced the deal for the Atalanta prospect on social media on deadline day

He told Football Italia: 'Their quality was incredible. They trained with the guys born in 1999.

'Hamed Junior was born in 2000 and his brother Amad was born in 2002. Despite that, there was a huge gap between them and the others.'

Both youngsters immediately made an impression after a friend of Gallo's introduced them to him before taking part in a youth team session.

'Amad was tremendous. Great technical skills, outstanding personality. The way they touched the ball was different, they did nutmegs and all that. They were on another level.'

Hamed plays for Empoli and has been loaned out to Sassuolo while Amad played just three times for Atalanta but has shown enough to United scouts that he is worth the outlay.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United had been scouting Amad for more than a year. The young winger is expected to join United in January and needs a work permit. Galli was immediately struck by the quality of Amad and his brother Hamed back in 2014

'I knew they had been scouting him for over a year,' Galli went on.

'I know a scout of Manchester United very well as we usually meet at games. He used to tell me that the club sent him several times to watch the player.'

He believes the substantial fee will help United secure a work permit for Diallo which would otherwise have been difficult as he is yet to play with his national side Ivory Coast.

Galli concluded: '[The transfer fee] is high, but there is a reason behind it. [Diallo] still needs to get a work permit since he has not played with his national team yet.

'The club need to have valid reasons to take him to the UK. One reason is that the player is coming from a top team and with Atalanta [having] been playing international competitions over the last few years, there are no problems to prove it.

'The second reason is the price tag. A €40m signing means he is an important investment for the club.

'If the cost would be €1m or €2m it may have been more difficult to get the work permit. That being said, €40m is still a lot of money.'

Manchester United-bound Amad Diallo hints he is on his way to Old Trafford by posting image of him travelling by plane to complete £37million move from Atalanta

* Amad Diallo is set to complete his £37m move to Manchester United this month
* The winger sealed an Old Trafford move from Atalanta in October last year
* Diallo posted a photo of him travelling by aeroplane with his bags packed
* Reports claim Diallo is travelling to Rome before heading to United next week

Amad Diallo has teased Manchester United fans by hinting he is travelling to the UK ahead of his arrival at the Premier League club this month.

The 18-year-old completed a £37million deal with the Red Devils in October with an agreement to move to Old Trafford from Serie A side Atalanta this month.

Diallo posted a photo of him travelling in a plane with his bags packed, giving the impression he is set to link up with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the coming days.

Atalanta's Amad Diallo has teased he is about to start training with Manchester United. United announced Diallo on deadline day in October with his contract starting in January. Diallo was tracked by Manchester United for over a year before his £37million transfer. While Diallo is highly-rated, he has made just two senior appearances for Atalanta this season

Reports claim that the teenager is heading to Rome to finalise his UK work permit, with the Manchester Evening News claiming he could start training at United next week.

Last month, Sportsmail revealed United were in the process of securing a Governing Body Endorsement from the FA that will lead to the 18-year-old being granted a work permit.

Diallo is a highly-rated winger that Atalanta - who reached last season's Champions League quarter-finals - tried very hard to keep during the summer transfer window.

Diallo posted an image on Instagram of Diallo packing his bags ahead of his United transfer

However, the 18-year-old has just featured once in this season's Serie A campaign for the Bergamo club, with the winger also making one substitute appearance in the Champions League.

The Ivorian made his Atalanta debut last season and even made the matchday squad for the club's European quarter-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain last season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Diallo is set to arrive at Old Trafford ahead of his highly-anticipated and delayed move.

The United boss claimed this week: 'We have had all the paperwork, I can't see any obstacles. He's coming.

'I hope very soon he will be with us. I'm very excited about bringing him in. I think he's shown a few times his qualities.

'Of course he has to learn to play in England, that's a different level of football. We'll give him time to develop and to express himself.

'Apart from that, I'm not really thinking too much on what we're going to do with players. Of course, we're always working long-term. That's the big thing. We have targets we need long-term for the club.'

Meanwhile, Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed that Diallo has received his passport to travel to the UK despite the Serie A club's best attempts to keep him for another six months.

Default Re: Amad Diallo Traore

Manchester United have completed the signing of Atalanta winger Amad Diallo... but who is the tricky teen likened to Lionel Messi? And is he worth the £37MILLION they could end up paying for him?

* Amad Diallo signed for United in October but completed his move on Thursday
* The Atalanta youngster is a complete unknown, so we're here to tell you more
* He was born in Ivory Coast and moved to Italy, later joining Atalanta's academy
* A tricky winger, he scored on his Serie A debut and is an exciting young talent
* One of his team-mates likened his performances in training to Lionel Messi

Manchester United's first arrival this month isn't a January signing, but instead a young man they snapped up months ago.

Amad Diallo technically joined the club in the previous transfer window, staying at Atalanta on loan for the first half of the season. The £37million deal, which will cost United £19million and up to £18m in add-ons, went through after Diallo passed a medical and agreed personal terms on Thursday.

But, after officially completing his big-money move to Old Trafford, little is known about the 18-year-old winger... so Sportsmail is here to tell all.

Amad Diallo completed his £37million move to Manchester United on Thursday. The Red Devils announced the signing on Thursday by welcoming the youngster to the club

So who is he?

Diallo was born in Abidjan, the largest city of the Ivory Coast, but moved to Italy at a young age with his younger brother - now also a footballer with Sassuolo.

He started out at Boca Barco in 2014 at the age of 12, where he was quickly spotted by a host of Serie A clubs, who then tried to snap him up. In 2015, he signed for Atalanta and joined up with their Under 14s.

All through the age groups, he continued to impress - scoring for the Under 15s and Under 17s in big national tournaments. The 2018-19 season was his breakthrough, as he netted 12 goals for the U17s, before moving up to the U19s and adding another six goals and six assists to help them win the league.

Diallo was born in the Ivory Coast and has risen through the ranks at Serie A side Atalanta

His first-team debut came in October 2019, when he came off the bench against Udinese in the 79th minute and just minutes later he had his first goal, with the team eventually running out 7-1 winners.

He was the first player born in the year 2002 to score in Serie A, and has since gone from strength to strength, although not always getting the game-time he will have wanted.

This season he has played less, only featuring in one Serie A match from the bench, but Atalanta were still desperate to extend his loan deal through until the end of the season.

United say no, though, and he will now continue his career in the north west of England...

What sort of player is he?

A winger by trade, but as has become natural with players in that position in recent years, he has a tendency to drift inside and take opponents on.

He is known for being excellent with both feet, and contributes both goals and assists, as shown by his debut performance for Atalanta.

He is pacy too, which helps with his ability to go past players and create goalscoring opportunities.

He also had a trick or two in his locker, wowing fans of both Atalanta and now Manchester United with clips of him dazzling in training and youth matches.

Stepovers, drag-backs... you name it, he's got it.

As a child, Diallo poses for a photo with Paul Pogba - who is now his team-mate at United

In truth though, little has been seen of him on the highest stage, so he still has the element of surprise in that opponents don't know much about him.

That said, everyone is well aware of the £37m price tag, so all eyes will certainly be focused on him.

Will he go straight into the first team?

He's only actually played five times for Atalanta, two of which this season, so it would be difficult to expect him to jump straight into a title battle at the top of the Premier League.

Realistically he is a player United will look to nurture over the next few seasons, but there is clearly promise there, shown by the price tag alone. A £37m fee is a lot to pay for a player with only a handful of senior appearances.

That said, United's extensive scouting network have watched him a lot and believe he is set to be a future superstar. In fact, head of academy recruitment Dave Harrison, chief scouts Marcel Bout and Jim Lawlor, and technical chief scout Mick Court all reported on the player.

Diallo tweeted himself saying he couldn't wait to get started as a Manchester United player. Diallo is unlikely to go straight into the first team at United but he is really highly-rated

What are people saying about him?

As is perhaps expected, he has drawn praise from a number of different big names both in youth football and after coming through to the senior game.

Former Italy goalkeeper Giovanni Galli, credited by some as the man who discovered both Amad Diallo and his brother, spoke to Football Italia back in October.

Then the Lucchese sporting director, he tells the story about how a friend asked to have lunch with him, turning up with two young boys - the Diallo brothers.

'He told me: "These two guys are good, you should give them a trial." They were the Traore [their previous name] brothers. They did the first trial on that same day and trained for a couple of days with one of our youth teams. You could immediately tell they were way better than all the other players we had.'

Galli admits that they were 'too good' for the level of his team and he wasn't able to sign non-EU players, so therefore made some calls and eventually they were signed for Empoli and Atalanta.

One of his Atalanta team-mates Papu Gomez likened Diallo's ability to that of Lionel Messi

Of Amad, he continued: 'He was tremendous. Great technical skills, outstanding personality. The way they touched the ball was different, they did nutmegs and all that. They were on another level.'

Current Atalanta team-mate Papu Gomez has also lavished praise upon Diallo's shoulders, likening him to a certain Barcelona superstar.

'He's a future star, trust me. During our training, he seems like [Lionel] Messi! You can't stop him.'

Does he play international football?

Not yet, but that is certainly likely to change in the coming months and years. Although born in the Ivory Coast, recent reports from Sky in Italy claim that he has now been granted an Italian passport.

That means that, upon his arrival in Manchester, he will eligible to play for either the Ivory Coast or Italy.

He has not played any international football previously, at any youth levels, but will surely have both national teams knocking at his door in 2021.

Manchester United's £37m new boy Amad Diallo bids emotional farewell to Atalanta after 'six years of happiness and love' as he says the club 'will forever have a special place in my heart' in touching social media post

* Amad Diallo completed £37m switch from Atalanta to Man United on Thursday
* The 18-year-old has said goodbye to Serie A side in an emotional Twitter post

Manchester United's new signing Amad Diallo has bid farewell to Atalanta with a touching tribute to his old club.

The 18-year-old winger completed his £37milllion switch to the Premier League giants on a four-and-a-half year deal on Thursday.

The Red Devils have paid an initial £19m but that fee could rise by a further £18m in add-ons and Diallo, who made five first-team appearances for the Serie A side after coming through their youth ranks, has said goodbye in an emotional social media post.

Man United's Amad Diallo has bid farewell to Atalanta with a touching tribute to his old club

The 18-year-old completed his move to United on Thursday and said goodbye to Atalanta

'Dear Atalanta, the moment to say goodbye has arrived,' he said in a video compilation of highlights during his time at the club on Twitter.

'It has been six extraordinary years, six years of growth, six years of challenges. But most importantly, six years of happiness and love.

'Here, I have become a man; you have given me everything I ever wanted, and I am more than proud to have played for Atalanta.

'You will forever have a special place in my heart. Wherever I go, you will always be with me for now and forever. Forza Atalanta!'

Diallo worked his way through youth ranks at Atalanta and made five first-team appearances

The teenager passed his medical and agreed personal terms on Thursday but actually signed for United in the previous transfer window in October but remained in Italy on loan for the first half of the season.

Diallo, who scored on his Serie A debut in 2019 and is an exciting young talent, has secured a work permit and will travel to the UK once his visa is issued.

The wideman becomes the first footballer to be signed and registered in the UK under the new post-Brexit rules. His Government Body Exemption – effectively a work permit – from the FA could only be processed after January 1, and the player applied for his visa in Rome earlier this week.

United expect Diallo to arrive in the next few days and have confirmed that he won't have to quarantine because he was in a secure bubble at Atalanta.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: 'As a club, we have followed Amad for a number of years and having watched him myself, I believe he is one of the most exciting young prospects in the game.

'Manchester United has such a proud history of developing young players and everything is in place to enable Amad to reach his potential here.

'It will take time for him to adapt but his speed, vision and fantastic dribbling ability will stand him in good stead to make the transition.

'He is a player with all of the raw attributes that are needed to be an important player for Manchester United in the years to come.'

AMAD EXCLUSIVE: I'M OVER THE MOON TO BE HERE

New signing Amad Diallo is itching to play with his Manchester United team-mates for the first time, after arriving at the Aon Training Complex on Wednesday.

The exciting prospect completed a transfer from Atalanta last week and, now that his visa has been approved, he is able to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

Amad is likely to follow a similar path to the one Facundo Pellistri has taken in recent months, by training with the first team while gaining experience of English football with the Under-23s.

As the teenager explains in his first interview as a United player, which you can read and watch in full on Thursday, he is desperate to get started in his new surroundings and hopes to impress.

“I’m over the moon to be here,” explains a beaming Amad. “I’m so excited to start here at Manchester United. It’s a dream come true and I can’t wait to start and play with the guys.”

Asked what it has been like for him in recent months, considering the initial agreement between United and Atalanta was reached back in October, Amad admits it was an unusual period of his career and looks forward to kicking on in the famous red shirt.

“It’s been a little bit strange these last few months,” says Diallo. “I would have hoped to have played a little bit more with Atalanta, but it wasn’t possible.

“Now I’m here and I’m very happy to be here. I’m expecting a lot from my experience here and I’m looking forward to starting.”

Elsewhere in his interview, Amad talks about his eagerness to work with Solskjaer and the coaches as he bids to harness his massive potential.

The determined 18-year-old also speaks enthusiastically about his fellow Ivorian, Eric Bailly, who has already been in contact with him this season.
