Default Re: Jose Mourinho : MUFC Manager!

Jose Mourinho criticising hapless Manchester United is the ultimate embarrassment for Ed Woodward and the Glazers... he used Sky Sports to air the same problems he did in Old Trafford hotseat

* Jose Mourinho was damning in his assessment of Manchester United on Sunday
* He was speaking candidly on Sky Sports after their defeat by West Ham United
* It was clear that the same issues he faced as manager have not been addressed
* It was an embarrassing episode for Ed Woodward and the owners at Old Trafford

It has become quite something, and a symbol of where Manchester United are headed, that Jose Mourinho’s stock continues to rise. Primarily for just not being there anymore.

Jettisoning Mourinho last December was seen as a must by the United board, a definitive course of action that rid the club of explosive toxicity and rancour. His race at Old Trafford, and more specifically Carrington, had run.

The Portuguese admitted as much on Sky Sports – ‘I probably deserved to be sacked’ - after their latest defeat at West Ham.

Jose Mourinho was damning in his assessment of Manchester United on Sky Sports on Sunday. The former Old Trafford boss insisted that the club were in a worse position than when he left

Now a full-time pundit, he is aware of the consequences his words can have after crossing the divide. It is why the sort of topics he addresses with gusto centre on themes he has always been consistent about – and usually arrive at the same point without explicitly naming names.

Victor Lindelof is perhaps the best example and evidence for those who believe Mourinho still had a slim chance of making things work at United.

In summer 2018, he demanded a new central defender, a request vetoed by the club. Harry Maguire and Kalidou Koulibaly were his primary targets but considered too expensive. Mourinho knew Lindelof needed a commanding partner, someone who would attack the first ball. He told United that.

Mourinho was desperate to secure a centre-back partner for Victor Lindelof, but was told no. He emphasised that point at the weekend, saying that he needed a strong presence beside him

‘Lindelof is very, very good in some aspects of the game,’ he said. ‘But he can be bullied in the one-on-one in the box, he’s not especially good in the air and Maguire has that kind of presence and physicality that is very, very important.

‘You know, I was not an idiot in the last pre-season when I was crying for a central defender.’

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was clearly of a similar mind. In came Maguire and, as pertinently, out went Chris Smalling on loan to Roma. Phil Jones has yet to play a minute in the Premier League.

Mourinho’s views are nothing new. Ed Woodward and the Glazers must fidget uneasily if they ever pore over the footage of Mourinho sitting alongside those he once derided almost on a weekly basis.

Much about the 56-year-old is thinly veiled and that has not changed during his short broadcasting career.

‘The sad reality is that they are worse than before,’ he said. ‘Maybe people think I am enjoying the situation... I am not enjoying it. I have people at the club that I love and lots of respect for the fans. It is really, really sad.

‘At this moment I don’t see anything. I think they are going to really, really be in trouble to get not just into the top four but potentially in the top six.’

There is no great altering of his view on United’s fallacies and it comes down to recruitment. These are the same criticisms he aired as manager and it must serve as embarrassing having an ex-employee still lay them out so nakedly.

The striker situation - United were left with none at West Ham once Marcus Rashford hobbled off – is an astonishing turn of events. He queried why no replacement was sought for Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, both his signings, before they joined Inter Milan.

United have struggled this season, and Mourinho says they may even struggle to make top six. The studio discussions would have made uncomfortable viewing for United's Ed Woodward

Part of that conversation regarded Rashford’s position. Mourinho started him as a central striker in the 2017 Europa League final but preferred the youngster wide on the left. Rashford suffered a significant goal drought under Mourinho, who claimed he struggles centrally when teams sit back. Obviously most often sit back against United.

The ex-manager’s difficulties with Anthony Martial were so severe that he wanted him sold last year and it remains to be seen whether the France international proves him wrong.

So far, Mourinho’s knife has never truly twisted on United’s players. That is reserved, however subtly, for the board. He and Woodward were friendly – the executive vice-chairman was actually having dinner at Mourinho’s London home when one sacking story broke on a Sunday afternoon last season – but professionally it is somewhat different.

Rashford endured something of a drought under Mourinho, who preferred him on the wing

Mourinho also mused that David de Gea was fortunate to get his new contract at United

Rather than criticise David De Gea’s form, Mourinho is flabbergasted that the club were held to ransom by a goalkeeper who, he believes, ran out of options elsewhere. De Gea signed a new £375,000-a-week contract earlier this month after fraught negotiations.

‘I don’t think United needs to pay as much as that to have him,’ he added. ‘One or two years ago he had the world after him, in this moment, the majority of the big doors were closed.

‘Is he good? Yes, he’s very good. (But) I don’t see the pressure. Who is going to pay David these numbers? (De Gea) gets a phenomenal contract in a moment where he’s a bit lucky to get it.’

Are you sitting uncomfortably? Then we’ll begin.

The not-so-special one: Jose Mourinho stars in new advert poking fun at his achievements at Manchester United, his war of words with Arsene Wenger… and hiding in the laundry basket while at Chelsea

* Jose Mourinho took part in a new campaign for Paddy Power's Daily Jackpots
* The advert centres around the Portuguese manager's 'Special One' nickname
* It features various amusing nods to infamous moments from his career

Jose Mourinho has poked fun at some of the more controversial moments of his storied career in a hilarious new Paddy Power advert.

The 56-year-old has been out of management since getting sacked by Manchester United in December, giving him time to do some punditry work and take part in campaigns like this one.

The short clip, titled 'Don’t think you’re special', is centred around the Portuguese's ‘Special One’ nickname.

Manager Jose Mourinho has poked fun at himself in a new advert for Paddy Power. Mourinho discusses being 'special' with references to some of his controversial moments

It begins with a relaxed Mourinho sitting in his office reading a newspaper which asks: 'What next for the Special One?'

'It's not easy being special,' he says, walking past his trophy cabinet. 'To be special you need to be consistent, I've been special in Milan and Madrid.

'But not all great achievements get trophies,' he continues, looking up to a newspaper snippet cutting with the headline 'United clinch second'.

That, of course, is in reference to Mourinho's controversial claim that finishing runner-ups with United in 2018 may have been his greatest success.

A newspaper snippet about Manchester United finishing second is in his trophy cabinet

We also get close up of a bookcase featuring novels ‘Le Specialiste En Failure’ and ‘The Voyeur’, a nod to the former Chelsea manager's famous war of words with Arsene Wenger.

As Mourinho continues to make his way through his house, which is covered which pictures of himself, he is met by a cleaner who offers him a laundry basket as we hear him say 'to be special you must respect the rules'.

The then Blues boss famously skirted a touchline suspension on the eve of the 2005 Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich by getting the Chelsea kit man to help him stow away in the basket.

The Portuguese is also be seen trimming a hedge in the shape of one of his infamous gestures

The advert also shows Mourinho saying 'be humble' while trimming a hedge in the shape of three fingers.

It is another parody of a comment he made as United boss, when he bragged about his three Premier League titles after a defeat by Tottenham last season.

The idea behind the commercial is that you no longer have to be special to win because the jackpot is won daily.

Mourinho asks his dog who the 'Special One' is before continuing to say that it is himself

'I'm going to try and get a job like Ole has and speak all the time about the future': Jose Mourinho aims sly dig at Man United successor Solskjaer on live TV ahead of Liverpool game

* Jose Mourinho aimed a sly dig at Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
* Mourinho criticised Solskjaer for speaking 'all the time about the future'
* Former United midfielder Roy Keane added that United results need to improve

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has aimed a sly dig at his successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, stating that the Norwegian speaks 'all the time about the future'.

Solskjaer took charge of United, initially on a caretaker basis, in December 2018 following the departure of Mourinho.

Despite an encouraging start, United have struggled of late and have gone three games without a win in all competitions, while they went into the clash at home to Liverpool in 14th place in the Premier League.

Mourinho accused Solskjaer of doing 'good PR' in the build-up to the game against Liverpool.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Mourinho said: 'They did some good PR in the week to make it absolutely clear or create positive atmosphere for the game. I'm going to try and get a job like Ole has, and speak all the time about the future.

'I think it's a great situation, three year contract – the future, the young players. I think it's a great job to do in such a giant club.'

Jose Mourinho has criticised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for speaking 'all the time about the future'. Mourinho accused United of doing 'some good PR' in the build-up to the clash with Liverpool

Former United midfielder Roy Keane admitted that Solskjaer desperately needs positive results.

Keane said: 'He needs some results. It's great when you talk about having a plan, they need some results. He's got to get more out of the players he got.

'Ole needs to get more out of this group of players. If you're not winning, the pressure builds. His record has not been good enough, and it needs to improve fast.'

Many of United's performances so far this season have been underwhelming, with speculation growing about Solskjaer's future at the club.

United won just two of their first nine Premier League games this season.

Borussia Dortmund are 'in regular contact with Jose Mourinho' and are trying to convince him to take over as manager... and the former Man United boss is already learning German!

* Jose Mourinho has been enjoying life as a pundit for Sky Sports recently
* But it is no secret that Mourinho wants to return to football management
* Mourinho is said to have been in close communication with Borussia Dortmund
* Lucien Favre's job is safe but Dortmund are keen to look at the bigger picture

Jose Mourinho is being lined up by Borussia Dortmund to take over as their new manager, and the club are in 'regular contact' with him, according to reports in Germany.

Mourinho is keen to get back into management and Dortmund could be an attractive choice, given they regularly appear in the Champions League and boast stars such as Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer.

Mourinho hasn't managed since he was sacked by Manchester United last year, but is already learning to speak German, according to Bild.

Jose Mourinho is reported to be in regular contact with Borussia Dortmund's chief executive. German newspaper Bild are reporting that Mourinho is wanted by Dortmund, with former RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick also in contention to take over from current boss Lucien Favre

The 56-year-old has appeared on Sky Sports as a pundit but wants to return to the touchline. The chance to challenge Bayern Munich's utter dominance of German football might also appeal to the famously combative manager.

Bild report that Mourinho is Dortmund's No 1 choice to take over from Lucien Favre, whose side have made an inconsistent start to the season having been proclaimed by some to be favourites to win the Bundesliga ahead of the mighty Bayern.

Mourinho has already been in communication with Hans-Joachim Watzke, the Dortmund chief executive, but Bild also suggest that former RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick could be in the frame for the job.

It is thought that Mourinho would need to take a huge drop in salary compared with his reported £24million-a-year wages at United.

Favre's future isn't in immediate jeopardy at Dortmund but the club are assessing their options as they plan a way to challenge Bayern over the longer term.

Dortmund are fourth in the Bundesliga after eight games, having won four and drawn three. Favre's side have only lost once in the league so far.

They currently top this year's Champions League 'group of death' ahead of Barcelona and Inter Milan. They take on Antonio Conte's Inter at the San Siro on Wednesday night.

Jose Mourinho 'wants to become first manager to win major trophies at three English clubs which could interest Arsenal' as pressure grows on Unai Emery

* Jose Mourinho is interested in managing another Premier League team
* The Portuguese won the Europa League and EFL Cup with Manchester United
* He also won seven major trophies during two different spells whilst at Chelsea

Jose Mourinho wants to become the first manager to win major trophies at three English clubs — which could interest Arsenal.

The Portuguese boss is interested in returning to the Premier League and the Gunners could be one destination with Unai Emery under pressure.

Mourinho won the Europa League and the League Cup with Manchester United as well as seven major trophies at Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United last December. The 56-year-old has been working predominantly as a TV pundit since his Old Trafford exit

According to the Sun, the 56-year-old is keen on managing another Premier League club, with Arsenal a likely candidate as Emery's side have started slowly this season.

Sportsmail revealed earlier this month that Mourinho is monitoring Tottenham's situation as he looks for a route back into management.

Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked by United last December, less than a year into a new contract that was due to run until 2020.

Spurs are also among the clubs that appeal to the Portuguese manager.

Real Madrid, coached by Zinedine Zidane, are another and Mourinho remains in contact and on good terms with club president Florentino Perez.

Mourinho, 56, is prepared to bide his time and wait for the ideal opportunity. He has been working predominantly as a TV pundit and joined Sky ahead of the season.

He has declined offers at former club Benfica and a £90million proposal from Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande.

Pernah Tanya-tanya ke Schweinsteiger, Mourinho Tertarik ke Bayern?
Novitasari Dewi Salusi - detikSport

Jakarta - Bastian Schweinsteiger mendukung kemungkinan Jose Mourinho melatih di Liga Jerman. Dia mengungkap kalau Mourinho sering bertanya soal Bayern Munich.

Bayern tengah mencari pelatih baru setelah memecat Niko Kovac.

Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger backs Jose Mourinho to take over as he reveals ex-Man United boss asked him about club 'all the time' and was learning German

* Bastian Schweinsteiger believes Jose Mourinho could be tempted by Bayern job
* Mourinho is the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Niko Kovac at Allianz Arena
* The Croatian manager was sacked after a string of poor results on Sunday night
* Schweinsteiger reveals Mourinho always asked him about Bayern while at United
* The World Cup winner also claimed that Mourinho was learning to speak German

Bastian Schweinsteiger believes Jose Mourinho could be 'tempted' into taking over at Bayern Munich.

The former Manchester United manager is the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Niko Kovac, who was sacked on Sunday night following Bayern's heavy 5-1 defeat to Frankfurt a day earlier.

Kovac, who only took over at the beginning of last season, had been under fire following a string of poor league results and leaves the Bavarian side in fourth place in the Bundesliga table after taking 18 points from 10 games.

Bastian Schweinsteiger 'could imagine' Jose Mourinho as Bayern Munich's next manager. Mourinho (centre, pictured alongside Schweinsteiger, right, in 2010) is being linked to the job

Along with Mourinho, Massimiliano Allegri, Mauricio Pochettino and Arsene Wenger are being linked with the job, but Schweinsteiger claims his former manager at Old Trafford would fit in well at the Allianz Arena.

The World Cup winner arrived at United in 2015, a year before Mourinho arrived, with the pair often discussing the Bundesliga during their time together.

The Bayern legend told Bild: 'I can imagine Mourinho in Germany. I remember he was always asking me about Bayern and the Bundesliga. During our away games, there was always Bundesliga on TV.

'He really knew every single player, even from the smaller teams. He was also learning German.

'He has not worked in the Bundesliga, so I can well imagine that he would be tempted by a commitment in Germany.'

Mourinho has not managed another side since being dismissed from his managerial position at the Red Devils.

While he did win two major trophies with United, the Special One was unable to replicate the success he achieved at Chelsea and Inter Milan.

Under Mourinho, Schweinsteiger only featured four times at United, scoring once and setting up a goal for his team-mate.

As Bayern begin their search for Kovac's successor, the Crotain's assistant Hans-Dieter Flick will oversee squad preparations for Wednesday's Champions League clash against Olympiacos.

Flick will also take charge for Borussia Dortmund's visit on Saturday – a significant game in this year's title race.

Jose Mourinho is keeping an eye on the situation at Tottenham despite being confident that he could secure a return to Real Madrid.

Mourinho, who hasn't managed since being sacked by Manchester United in December 2018, has been linked with the managerial position at Tottenham, where Mauricio Pochettino's future is uncertain.

As reported by The Sun, Tottenham's options would be limited if Pochettino was to depart, which would boost Mourinho's chances of getting the job.

Jose Mourinho is keeping an eye on the situation at Tottenham as he considers his next move. The uncertainty surrounding Mauricio Pochettino has led to speculation about Mourinho. There have been suggestions Mourinho could replace Zinedine Zidane as Real Madrid boss

Tottenham are languishing in 14th place in the Premier League and have won just one of their last four games in all competitions.

Mourinho is also intrigued by the possibility of returning to Real, who he managed between 2010 and 2013.

Zinedine Zidane has endured difficulties during his second spell at the club and Mourinho would be open to a return to The Bernabeu.

It has been suggested that if Zidane leaves Real could turn their attention to Pochettino, which would pave the way for Mourinho to become Tottenham boss.

Mourinho has also been linked with the manager's job at Tottenham's bitter rivals Arsenal.

Jose Mourinho pictured with Tottenham shirt for the first time… after staying overnight at their training ground to avoid photographers

* Jose Mourinho has signed a deal to become Tottenham manager until 2023
* The former Chelsea and Man United boss has been out of work for 11 months
* Mourinho replaces Mauricio Pochettino as boss who was sacked after five years

The image was unthinkable at the start of the week but reality is now setting in for Tottenham fans as Jose Mourinho has been unveiled proudly holding a Spurs shirt for the first time.

To avoid being caught by photographers, the new Spurs boss stayed overnight at the club's training ground in Enfield at Hotspur Way.

Mourinho has penned a three-and-a-half-year-deal and had a wry smile on his face at his unveiling following a sensational week at the club.

Jose Mourinho is pictured proudly holding a Tottenham Hotspur shirt for the first time

Long-serving boss Mauricio Pochettino was sensationally axed after five years in the Spurs hot seat on Tuesday night, paving the way for the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager to return to the Premier League.

The 56-year-old has been out of work since December when he was sacked as manager of United but has been linked with many sides since, including Real Madrid.

Mourinho inherits a Spurs team in turmoil following an awful start to the Premier League season.

They entered the campaign off the back of reaching the Champions League final and hoping to record another top-four finish.

But heading into the this weekend's London derby at West Ham United, Spurs are in 14th and 11 points off the top four having not won away domestically since January.

The poor run of form cost Pochettino his job as Spurs boss, along with his entire backroom staff.
