Manchester United 'will ramp up pursuit of Kalidou Koulibaly' in the summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer feels the Napoli man 'is the perfect partner for Harry Maguire'

* Manchester United haven't given up on signing defender Kalidou Koulibaly
* They will renew their efforts in the summer after failing to get him so far
* He is rated at £90million and has interest from other top European clubs

Manchester United still have Kalidou Koulibaly at the top of their transfer targets list, and will resume their efforts to sign him in the summer, according to The Mirror.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has so far failed in his attempts to lure the Napoli defender to Old Trafford.

However, the United boss is reportedly willing to make Koulibaly the top-paid player at the club should he join.

Manchester United have not given up on their ambitions to sign defender Kalidou Koulibaly. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is thought to believe he will be a perfect partner for Harry Maguire

He will also have to shell out a hefty transfer fee, with the Senegal international rated at around £90million.

Koulibaly is one of the top rated defenders in Europe, and understandably has attracted a lot of interest from other clubs such as PSG, Chelsea, and Real Madrid.

The French champions were willing to offer him a £10.2million-a-year salary in January, although he remains a Napoli player for now.

Sir Alex Ferguson had discussed a possible move to United last summer, before the club opted for Harry Maguire instead.

It is thought that Solskjaer believes Maguire and Koulibaly will make a perfect defensive pairing at the back.

Manchester United target Kalidou Koulibaly has £127m release clause in Napoli contract that will be active from JUNE this year

* Manchester United target Kalidou Koulibaly has a hefty £127m release clause
* The Napoli defender's clause becomes active for clubs outside of Italy from June
* The Old Trafford giants reportedly failed in a bid for the 28-year-old Senegal star
* Both Corriere dello Sport and Corriere del Mezzogiorno revealed the clause

Manchester United will have to meet Kalidou Koulibaly's £127million release clause, which becomes active in June, to snap up the highly-coveted Napoli defender.

The Old Trafford giants reportedly failed in a bid to sign the 28-year-old centre back, but could reignite their interest in the summer and trigger Koulibaly's clause.

Both Corriere dello Sport and Corriere del Mezzogiorno highlighted the valuation United would have to match to sign the Senegalese international.

But according to previous reports, Paris Saint-Germain could rival the Premier League club for Koulibaly's signature.

PSG director Leonardo has reportedly already held talks with the player's agent, and the club may be willing to offer Koulibaly a four-year £10.2million contract.

United have often been touted as one of the clear favourites to sign Koulibaly, but will likely have to fend off fierce interest from several of Europe's elite clubs at the end of the campaign.

A report in Italy states that Napoli could be forced to sell Koulibaly in the summer, should the club fail to achieve Europa League football, which could trigger a bidding war.

Manchester United target Kalidou Koulibaly's £127million release clause will be active in June. The Old Trafford giants failed in a bid to sign the 28-year-old centre back but could return. Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly even held talks with Koulibaly to convince him to move to United

According to The Mirror, the United hierarchy will renew their efforts to sign the former Genk star in the summer - with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thought to be willing to make Koulibaly the highest-paid player at the club.

Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary manager and current director at the club, even reportedly held talks with Koulibaly and was hopeful the centre back would join the club he managed for over two decades.

But after a move failed to materialise, United instead moved for current club captain Harry Maguire - and sealed the deal for a record amount for a defender.

Solskjaer is even believed to view Maguire and Koulibaly as the potential perfect partnership at the Champions League chasers.

Manchester United handed boost in chase for Kalidou Koulibaly as Napoli defender is 'not interested' in a move to Paris Saint-Germain

* Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is wanted by a number of top European clubs
* The Senegal interrnational has been a consistent performer in Italy since 2014
* Manchester United have been in contact with the centre-back over a move

Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Senegal international is on the radar of a number of top clubs across Europe after cementing himself at the heart of the Serie A side's defence since his arrival from Genk in 2014.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to make additions to his United side as he looks to return them to competing at the top of the Premier League.

And it is thought that noises coming from Koulibaly's camp will be music to the ears of the Norwegian.

According to LeSport10, via The Sun, Koulibaly is 'not convinced' that a move to Paris Saint-Germain is the right course of direction for his career.

Furthermore, it is thought he is very much open to pursuing a move to England.

Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old, who made 15 appearance this season in Italy's top flight, before the coronavirus pandemic struck.

Koulibaly has reportedly already told Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis that he would be willing to leave this summer if the right offer came up.

Manchester United 'make £71m offer for Kalidou Koulibaly... but Napoli are holding out for £89m to let the PSG target leave this summer'

* Manchester United 'are in pursuit of Kalidou Koulibaly, and have offered £71m'
* Liverpool and PSG are fellow interested clubs, but Napoli want £89m for him
* It's already a step down from the £107m the Serie A side rejected last summer

Napoli have kept Kalidou Koulibaly's price tag locked at £89million despite an offer from Manchester United, according to reports.

The 28-year-old centre back has been hotly tipped for a big move for years but has stuck around at the Stadio San Paolo to rack up 233 appearances for the Neapolitan side.

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be in pursuit of Koulibaly, but United have jumped first with a £71m bid, according to Sky Sports Italia.

Napoli's valuation of the player has already dropped considerably, having reportedly rejected a £107m bid last summer.

The Italian side have suffered this season, sitting sixth and 24 points behind league leaders Juventus.

Koulibaly's desire to leave could accelerate if last season's Serie A runners-up fail to qualify for the Champions League, a distinct possibility ahead of the restart with Juventus, Lazio, Inter Milan and Atalanta in commanding positions.

Napoli are holding out for £89m for Kalidou Koulibaly despite a bid from Manchester United. United are keen to sign a world class centre back to partner with captain Harry Maguire. Koulibaly will be hot property in the summer market, especially if Napoli fail to finish top four

The club were at civil war during the first-half of the season, with manager Carlo Ancelotti sacked and owner Aurelio De Laurentiis threatening to dock players' wages by 25 per cent after players refused to attend a training camp following a Champions League draw with Red Bull Salzburg.

Those factors threw the futures of star players Dries Mertens, Lorenzo Insigne and Koulibaly into considerable doubt. For now, all remain at the club as Serie A sides look towards resuming action having been in shutdown since early March.

Before sorting Koulibaly's future, first Napoli will be keen to restart their Champions League push, awaiting a second-leg clash with Barcelona after holding the Catalans to a 1-1 draw in Naples before lockdown.

'A player like this cannot change his value even in a crisis': Manchester United's hopes of landing Kalidou Koulibaly on the cheap are dashed as Napoli chief insists they will NOT lower price for star after coronavirus crisis

* Manchester United will not be able to sign Kalidou Koulibaly at a discount price
* Napoli chief Cristiano Giuntoli says pandemic will not alter club's valuation
* He confirmed the club will ask for a 'large sum' for the 28-year-old defender

Manchester United's hopes of signing Kalidou Koulibaly in a cut-price deal have been crushed after Napoli chief Cristiano Giuntoli insisted the club's valuation of their player will not change after the coronavirus crisis.

United have been monitoring Koulibaly's progress in Serie A and anticipated an opportunity to sign the defender at a discount price when the coronavirus pandemic subsides.

The unforeseen suspension of the football season has limited revenue for clubs, and the financial uncertainty caused by the outbreak could force some chairmen to sell their best players and balance the books.

But Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli maintains his club will not be lowering their asking price for Koulibaly, who is contracted at Stadio San Paolo until 2023.

'Kalidou is a great player, who still has a long contract with us,' Giuntoli said. 'If we were to sell, the club could ask for a large sum.

'A player like this cannot change his value even in a crisis, so we are not moving our valuation.'

Manchester United's hopes of signing Kalidou Koulibaly in a bargain deal have been dashed. Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli says the club will not lower their asking price

The 28-year-old centre-back has made 21 appearances this term after winning the Serie A Best Defender award in 2018-19 and his performances have also attracted interest from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been a long-time admirer of the Senegal international, but the Red Devils may be forced to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.

The club recorded a pre-tax loss of £28.55million between 1 January and 31 March, compared with a £11.117m pre-tax profit in the same period last year.

Taking those figures into account, United will have to be more frugal when the window opens and may look to offload players on the fringes of the first team.

'I don't owe anyone s***': Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis insists he will NOT cut the price of Kalidou Koulibaly... and says he will only think about selling his star defender if Man City or United offer £90m

* Kalidou Koulibaly is once again attracting interest from Premier League sides
* The 29-year-old is the bedrock of Napoli's defence and continues to impress
* Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said he 'would think about' a £90m bid
* Both Manchester City and Manchester United have been credited with interest

Napoli will not cash in cheaply on star defender Kalidou Koulibaly as Manchester City, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have been told in no uncertain terms just how much he would set them back by owner Aurelio De Laurentiis.

De Laurentiis is a notorious stickler in the transfer market and often digs his heels in before selling players.

The 28-year-old Koulibaly, who turns 29 on Saturday, is enjoying another fine campaign at the heart of Napoli's defence and is being pursued by a teams across England, Spain and France.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused chaos for football's finances but De Laurentiis is undeterred in revealing it will take a mammoth offer to prise Koulibaly away from Naples.

'If City or United or PSG with €100million (£90m) showed up, I would think about it and it is probable that they would leave, always if their will was to leave,' De Laurentiis told Corriere dello Sport.

'I don't even consider an offer of €60m (£55m). I am solid, if I wanted to win the Scudetto at any cost today I would find myself with three, four hundred million debts. I don't owe anyone s***.'

Napoli will demand no less than £90million from any team trying to sign Kalidou Koulibaly. Both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (left) and Pep Guardiola (right) have been credited with interest but the two Manchester clubs would need to put up a record offer for a defender to get Koulibaly. Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed he would only consider a sale if an offer of £90m arrived

Koulibaly put in another commanding performance over the weekend as Napoli reached the Coppa Italia final following a second-leg draw with Inter Milan.

What works in Napoli's favour is that the Senegalese is under contract in Naples until 2023, meaning De Laurentiis and his staff are under no pressure to cash in.

Having won Serie A's Best Defender award for the 2018-19 season, Koulibaly's stock has not plummeted and with a number of teams looking to solidify their defence for 2020-21, he finds himself top of many managers' lists.

Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli added recently: 'Kalidou is a great player, who still has a long contract with us. If we were to sell, the club could ask for a large sum.

'A player like this cannot change his value even in a crisis, so we are not moving our valuation.'

Manchester United appear to be seeking a long-term partner for club captain Harry Maguire while for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, they are still yet to properly replace Vincent Kompany.

An injury to Aymeric Laporte earlier this season exposed City's lack of depth at centre-back with midfielder Fernandinho often slotting in.

Both John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have shown frailties in a City shirt and Koulibaly would represent a significant upgrade for both clubs should they decide to meet De Laurentiis' demands.

Fabian Ruiz is another player that is attracting a wealth of interest ahead of the summer transfer window and like Koulibaly, it will take a similar offer to sign the midfielder.

Ruiz is also under contract until 2023 in Naples and that gives the Serie A side leverage in negotiations with Ruiz's suitors.

'If we have to find a solution we will find it but I have never talked about the transfer market': Kalidou Koulibaly plays down talks of a move away from Napoli amid links to City and United

* Kalidou Koulibaly has been linked with a move away from Napoli this summer
* Manchester City and Manchester United are reportedly among those interested
* The defender says he is open to ending his career in Naples however

Kalidou Koulibaly has reportedly shut down talks of a move away from Napoli this summer and said that he could end his career at the club.

The highly-rated defender has long been linked with a move away from the club, with Manchester City and Manchester United both reportedly interested as they are in need of a top centre-back.

Premier League champions Liverpool, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have all been reportedly interested in the past as well.

But Gazetto dello Sport have reported that he is interested in ending his career at the club, despite Napoli's turmoils off the pitch this season.

Koulibaly told the Italian newspaper: 'I never spoke to Napoli about leaving. If we have to find a solution, we will find it, but I have never talked about the transfer market.

'I also read in the newspapers about my future. But I only want to think about playing, I am 100 per-cent [committed to] Napoli and it bothers me to be linked, every day, to this or that European club.

Kalidou Koulibaly has consistently been linked with a move away from Napoli this summer. Both Manchester City and Manchester United have been reported as possible destinations. Koulibaly has been a rock at the heart of the Napoli defence since his first appearance in 2014. Koulibaly says his future at the club is up to the decision of president Aurelio De Laurentiis

'We will see what the president (Aurelio De Laurentiis) will decide and if he proposes to extend my contract, that would allow me to end my career here.'

Koulibaly has been an ever-present in the Napoli team since he joined from Genk in 2014 and has become one of the world's best centre-backs.

Over six-years at the club he has made 239 appearances and has stayed loyal to the club until this present day despite interest from top sides across Europe.

With Manchester City and Manchester United's current desires to strengthen their defence, it is understandable why they would be interested in the signing of the 29-year-old Senegalese international.

However they could face a tough battle to prise him away from his current home in Naples.
