Ronald Koeman confirmed as Everton boss on a three-year deal worth £6m per season as the Dutchman reveals 'proud feeling'

* Everton have confirmed appointment of Ronald Koeman as new manager
* Koeman has signed a three-year contract, worth £6million per season
* The Dutchman quits Southampton after two seasons at St Mary's Stadium
* He'll be given biggest transfer kitty in Everton's history to revamp squad

A new era at Goodison Park can begin after Ronald Koeman was finally confirmed as Everton's manager.

The Dutchman had enjoyed two excellent seasons with Southampton and would have had a European campaign on his agenda in the forthcoming campaign but he found it impossible to turn down the overtures of Everton's major investor Farhad Moshiri.

Koeman has signed a three-year contract, worth £6million per season, and he will be given the biggest transfer kitty in Everton's history to revamp a squad that failed to fulfil its potential under Roberto Martinez.

Martinez was sacked on May 12 after results had spiralled and Koeman quickly became the prime target for Moshiri, who acquired a 49.9 per cent controlling stake in Everton on February 27 and has been determined to make a statement.

Koeman, speaking to Everton's website, said: 'I am very excited to be Everton manager. I believe in the club, in the team, in the fans and in our ability to achieve things in the future.

'Everton is a club with a great history and real ambition and it is a proud feeling for me to be part of what we want to go and do, together with the chairman and Farhad Moshiri.

'I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the club and to preparing for a big season in the Premier League.'

Quote:

Valencia (2007-08): P35 W12 D9 L14

Feyenoord (2011-14): P108 W62 D21 L25

Southampton (2014-16): P91 W44 D17 L30
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright added: 'We are really pleased to have secured the man who was our No 1 target from the moment we set out to appoint a new manager.

'Ronald has such a strong track record in the game, instantly commanding respect for what he achieved as a player and for his qualities and accomplishments as a manager.

'The hopes and aspirations that we all have as Evertonians are with him, as is our total support at board, shareholder and fan level.'

Everton spoke to a number of other candidates – including former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, David Moyes, who spent 11 years in the Goodison hot seat between 2002 and 2013, and ex-Ajax manager Frank De Boer – but it soon became a two-horse race.

The main rival to Koeman was Unai Emery and Everton held significant discussions with advisors of the three-time Europa League winner at the end of May to see whether he would consider a switch to the Barclays Premier League.

Emery, however, had second thoughts about meeting Everton's hierarchy in person and, aware that an alternative offer from Paris Saint-Germain was floating in the pipeline, he dropped out of the race.

When Emery got cold feet, that merely stiffened Everton's resolve to get Koeman and he informed Southampton at the beginning of June that he wanted to talk to Moshiri.

That left Everton with the task of agreeing a £3.5million compensation package with Southampton. Koeman – who will be joined on Merseyside by his brother, Erwin – had 12 months remaining on his terms but that was not going to be a stumbling block for Moshiri.

Koeman has been away on holiday but it is expected he will be formally unveiled at Goodison in the coming days and he will be tasked with returning Everton to the top six, with the long-term aim of transforming them into a Champions League club.

Southampton confirmed Koeman's departure and released the following statement: 'The search has already begun for the right appointment who can take the club to the next level and build on our track record of recent success, which culminated in a sixth-place finish in last season's Premier League, as well as qualification for the group stages of the Europa League.

'Our focus now is to build on our long-term plan, and work with a new management team who share both the club's and our supporters' values and ambitions.'

Quote:
FIVE THINGS KOEMAN MUST TACKLE AT GOODISON PARK

TRANSFORM THE ATMOSPHERE

A change of manager always provides a lift but Koeman will be aware of how much work needs to be done to get the bounce back at Finch Farm. It is not wrong to say that, during the last two months of the campaign just gone, the mood around the club was appalling.

Even the most level-headed players had lost faith in Martinez's project and it made what has traditionally been a lively, vibrant place of work become a centre of disenchantment. For that reason alone, Everton's hierarchy had to take action.

One of Everton's strengths over the last decade has been the unity within. David Moyes assembled a squad that worked relentlessly for one another and never got carried away and Bill Kenwright, the chairman, has always endeavoured to ensure that everyone adheres to tradition.

Moshiri's wealth means times are changing but if Koeman is smart, he will realise where Everton's strengths have been and tap in to the wealth of experience around him. Everton are never better than when they are united and the fracturing of last season must be repaired.

RESOLVE THE TWO BIG TRANSFER PUZZLES

Manchester City want John Stones and are privately confident they will land the England defender. Romelu Lukaku, meanwhile, has been batting his eyes at a host of admirers and wants to play well at the European Championship to showcase his talents.

Koeman, of course, would want Stones and Lukaku to be part of his revolution but, equally, he will be aware of their value. Moyes once said that 'Everton do not sell cheap' and that mantra remains. If those players leave this summer, it won't be for less than a combined £100million.

What cannot happen, though, is for their respective futures to drag on and on into August towards deadline day. Transfers sagas are not healthy for anyone and Koeman needs to be given an early indication of their intentions.

If they are committed to Everton, all well and good. If, however, they want to leave and that cannot be changed, Everton need to get the best possible price to allow Koeman to start planning. If they do go, it won't faze him. Look at the work he did with Southampton after their mass exodus in 2014.

REBUILD THE LOCAL HERO

Ross Barkley played in every Premier League game last season but he suffered terribly towards the end, failing to make the impact his talent should allow. He failed to score in any match after February 20 and his last Premier League goals were on February 3.

So noticeable was his dip, Barkley was privately sweating on his place for Euro 2016. He would have been crushed had he lost his seat on the plane to France and it should not be underestimated how much this 22-year-old pours over his performances and frets about his form.

Martinez gave Barkley a huge build-up when he arrived and frequently compared him to some of football's royalty. There was a point, in November 2013, when he mentioned him in the same sentence as the club's new manager.

'The way he can strike the ball from outside the box is of the highest level,' said Martinez. 'He's got the switch of play of Ronald Koeman, if you want. So I think you can find many, many outstanding attributes like some of the top players.'

Barkley has tremendous ability but he is reaching a point in his career where he can no longer be described as having potential. He has the technical qualities to thrive under Koeman and Barkley must listen to the words his new manager imparts.

SPEND WISELY

Kenwright has unfailingly backed his managers and in the past decade Everton have smashed their transfer record five times. Even in January, Martinez was given £13.5million to sign Oumar Niasse, who has spent time recently doing double sessions at Finch Farm to get a head start after an underwhelming start.

But what Everton have not been able to do, though, is spend big with great frequency. Finance was one of the reasons they passed on the chance to sign Dimitri Payet 12 months ago but, with Moshiri committed to bankrolling significant investment, that will no longer happen.

Koeman will have access to the biggest transfer kitty in Everton's history but that doesn't mean he should spend for the sake of it. Everton need reinforcements in several areas, such as a new goalkeeper, in defence and up front, and Koeman needs to be shrewd.

MAKE GOODISON ROCK AGAIN

When Lukaku scored his second goal against Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-final in March, the noise inside Goodison was remarkable, an ear-splitting, senses fuddling din. When the old stadium is like that, there aren't many better places to see football in the country.

But when it is quiet? It is inhospitable and the tension is palpable. Towards the end under Martinez, as results failed to improve, it became intolerable. Koeman bore witness to how bad it was when Southampton drew 1-1 on April 16.

Evertonians had become bored by the methodical way Martinez wanted his side to play and Koeman needs to appreciate that while the home crowd want to see attractive football, they want it to have a tempo that unsettles the opposition and creates an energy in the stands.

Koeman is not walking into a club that is on its knees and requires major surgery just to stabilise. He is taking over one of the best institutions in the land with history and solid foundations. Providing he makes the right moves, he has the chance to make them a force once more.

Southampton set to name Claude Puel as their new boss with terms being finalised

* Claude Puel appointment at Southampton is set to be completed this week
* The 54-year-old manager will replace Ronald Koeman in the hotseat
* Puel won Ligue 1 in his first-ever managerial season at Monaco in 2000

Southampton expect to appoint Claude Puel as manager by the end of the week.

The former Lyon and Nice boss has held talks with the south coast club and they are in the process of finalising a deal.

Puel, 54, was mentored by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger when he was in charge at Monaco. He worked as a coach for the reserve team before being handed his first managerial role at the club in 1999. The Frenchman won Ligue 1 in his first season in charge.

Former Nice manager Claude Puel is set to become Southampton's new boss by the end of the week

He also spent six seasons at Lyon, during which time he guided them to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2010.

Southampton have been looking for a new manager since Ronald Koeman left to take charge of Everton on June 14. They had hoped he would remain at the club for at least the final year of his contract and lead them in the Europe League next season, but the Dutchman was persuaded to move by the lure of transfer funds.

Even without a manager, Southampton pressed ahead with transfers by signing Nathan Redmond from Norwich on a five-year deal for a fee understood to be £10million. That has paved the way for Sadio Mane to leave for Liverpool for three times that amount.

Southampton also explored the possibility of bringing in former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Sevilla appoint former Chile manager Jorge Sampaoli to replace Unai Emery

* Jorge Sampaoli has been appointed as the new manager of Sevilla
* Former Chile boss replaces Unai Emery who stepped down from the role
* Sampaoli left Chile in January after leading them to 2015 Copa America win
* Emery expected to join Paris Saint Germain after Laurent Blanc departure

Sevilla have appointed Jorge Sampaoli as their new manager with the former Chile boss agreeing a two-year deal with the Europa League champions to replace Unai Emery.

'Sevilla are counting on the best coach of America in 2015, who begins his first adventure in Europe,' the club said in a statement announcing the appointment of the man who led his country to their first Copa America triumph last year.

The 56-year-old, out of a job since stepping down as Chile manager in January, lost out to Barcelona coach Luis Enrique for the 2015 FIFA World Coach of the Year award after making the three-man shortlist following his Copa America success.

Jorge Sampaoli (right) signs as new Sevilla manager alongside the club's president Jose Castro

Emery, who steered the team to the last three Europa League crowns, was under contract with Sevilla until June 2017 but negotiated a release from his contract.

'With 106 victories, he is the coach with the most wins at Sevilla in domestic and international competition and the second coach behind Joaquin Caparros with the most games managed, 205,' Sevilla said in a statement.

'We wish Emery the best of luck in his next adventure.'

The Spanish tactician has been linked by the French and Spanish media with the vacant coaching job at Paris Saint Germain after the big-spending Ligue 1 champions parted ways with Laurent Blanc on Monday.

Sevilla finished seventh in La Liga last season but have qualified for next season's Champions League via their Europa League victory.

Roy Hodgson could land £8m-a-year job in the Chinese Super League despite England's Euro 2016 humbling

* Former England boss Roy Hodgson is wanted by the Chinese Super League
* League bosses are open to him managing a club or being a consultant
* Hodgson would expect to earn £8million a year managing in China
* While in charge of England, Hodgson was earning £3.5million a year
* England crashed out of Euro 2016 after a humiliating last-16 loss to Iceland

Roy Hodgson is wanted by the mega-rich Chinese Super League despite England's Euro 2016 debacle.

And CSL chiefs are willing to more than double the £3.5million-a-year financial package Hodgson was on at the Football Association to secure the experienced manager's services.

The 68-year-old can expect to earn a salary of £8million if he makes the switch to Asia.

Hodgson is still weighing up his next move after leaving his role as England manager following the humiliating loss to Iceland earlier this summer.

But the embarrassing nature of England's exit in France has not put off those running Chinese football, who are targeting Hodgson.

They believe Hodgson's vast experience and expertise of European football can be utilised to improve the quality of coaching in the fast-emerging league.

Former England manager Roy Hodgson is a target for Chinese Super League bosses. He could earn £8million a year in Asia, more than double his £3.5million England salary

Indeed, CSL supremos are open to Hodgson taking charge of one of the 16 clubs or joining on a consultancy basis – similar to a role Jose Mourinho was offered last season.

It remains to be seen whether Hodgson views a future for himself in China, but he would certainly be in good company should he move to the Far East.

Sven Goran Eriksson and Luiz Felipe Scolari are both managing in China, whilst the league have managed to land a number of Europe's most high-profile stars thanks, mainly, to the vast sums of money on offer.

Frank de Boer relishing the chance to take charge of Inter Milan

* Frank de Boer will replace Roberto Mancini as Inter Milan boss
* Inter Milan were thrashed 6-1 in a friendly by Tottenham on Friday
* The club's Chinese owners are eager to return Inter 'to their glory days'
* De Boer left Ajax after six years, where he won four league titles

Frank de Boer is looking forward to meeting Inter Milan's fans, with his appointment as manager set to be confirmed on Tuesday.

Roberto Mancini left San Siro on Monday by 'mutual agreement' after his relationship with new Inter owners Suning Holdings broke down over the summer.

Former Holland defender De Boer, who left his role as Ajax head coach in May, arrived in Milan later in the day and, though details of his contract must be finalised before his appointment can be made official, he already has a welcome message for supporters.

Frank de Boer arrives at Milan's Linate airport with his appointment set to be confirmed

'Hello Inter fans, I'm very happy to be here and I hope to see you soon,' he said in a brief video posted on the club's Twitter feed.

He earlier told reporters waiting for him in the airport: 'I hope I can achieve a lot of success here. I'll see you tomorrow at the press conference!'

De Boer, 46, was linked with Premier League clubs Everton and Southampton before those vacancies were filled by Ronald Koeman and Claude Puel respectively.

Former Sampdoria and Leicester striker Mancini, who claimed the Scudetto three times during his first tenure as Inter boss, returned to the Serie A club following a successful spell with Manchester City and a brief stint with Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Roberto Mancini was sacked after Inter were thrashed 6-1 by Tottenham

However, the Nerazzurri finished a distant eighth in 2014-15 and an improvement to fourth the next year was considered a disappointment as Inter had led the standings from Napoli and eventual champions Juventus heading into the winter break.

When Chinese company Suning Holdings bought a majority stake at San Siro in June, Mancini was promised a large transfer budget but only managed to secure one major signing, bringing in Italy midfielder Antonio Candreva from Lazio for 22million euros (£18.7m).

Ever Banega, formerly of Sevilla, has arrived as a free agent while left-back Cristian Ansaldi was a modest purchase from Genoa.

Furthermore, the Nerazzurri have played poorly in pre-season, losing 4-1 to Bayern Munich and then 6-1 to Tottenham in friendly games, and growing mutual frustration between the board, Mancini and a group of rebellious players has precipitated this change of leadership.

A statement published on inter.it read: 'FC Internazionale Milano confirms that it has parted company with head coach Roberto Mancini by mutual agreement.

'Inter would like to place on record its thanks to Roberto for the work carried out with the team since he joined in November 2014.

'Last season the club led Serie A until the Christmas break, ending the season in fourth place and qualifying for the Europa League.

'We thank Roberto for the work and commitment he has shown the club over the past 20 months.'
