Wolves SACK Bruno Lage as owners react to slipping into the relegation zone... and replacement is unlikely to be in place before they face Chelsea next weekend

* Wolves manager Bruno Lage is the latest Premier League boss to be sacked
* Former Olympiacos coach Pedro Martins, is among those who want the job
* Wolves are unlikely to have a new manager in place before facing Chelsea

Bruno Lage has become the third manager to lose his job in the Premier League after he was sacked by Wolves on Sunday.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham was Wolves’ fourth of a campaign in which they have scored just three times in the league, despite owners Fosun backing Lage with £100million in the summer transfer window.

Wolves are in the bottom three and their next fixture is at Chelsea on Saturday. They have been studying possible successors but have not ruled out placing a coach already on the staff, such as Under-21 coach James Collins or his Under-18 counterpart Steve Davis, in charge for next Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.

MailOnline reported on Sunday morning that the Portuguese was under significant pressure after winning only one of his final 15 league games across this season and last, and Wolves moved to dismiss him later that day.

While Lage has had little luck with injuries – summer signing Sasa Kalajdzic damaged knee ligaments on his debut while fellow striker Raul Jimenez remains sidelined – the form since last spring has been alarming.

Wolves have confirmed that they have parted ways with head coach Bruno Lage

Sportsmail understands Pedro Martins, the former Olympiacos coach, is targeting a move to the Premier League. Martins is thought to have links to Jorge Mendes, head of the powerful Gestifute agency who have a strong relationship with Fosun.

Both Lage and his predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo are Gestifute clients, as are many of the Wolves squad.

Lage was brought to Molineux at the start of last season to replace Nuno, and had Wolves in the race for European football for the first half of the campaign before their form collapsed.

He has tried to bring a more attacking style this season, switching from a back three to a back four and allowing club legend Conor Coady to join Everton on loan. But Wolves have looked toothless for much of the campaign, even though they have top talent like Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes and Pedro Neto in the squad.

They also brought in former Chelsea forward Diego Costa on a free transfer following the injuries to Kalajdzic and Jimenez. Neto, meanwhile, faces a spell on the sidelines after sustaining an ankle injury at West Ham.

Steven Gerrard is SACKED by Aston Villa after dismal 3-0 defeat at Fulham saw fans turn on him - with owners prepared to go all out to land an elite coach like Mauricio Pochettino or Thomas Tuchel

* Aston Villa have sacked Steven Gerrard as their manager after just 11 months
* Villa sit 17th in the Premier League on nine points - just one point above the drop
* Gerrard's final game was a dismal 3-0 loss away at Fulham on Thursday
* The Midlands club's owners could turn to Mauricio Pochettino or Thomas Tuchel

Steven Gerrard has been sacked by Aston Villa with a brutal 41-word statement after his side's humiliating 3-0 defeat at Fulham.

The former England captain has been dismissed just 11 months after succeeding Dean Smith at Villa Park, and Villa have targeted former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, with conversations thought to have been held between intermediaries.

Villa's next game is at home to Brentford on Sunday and at this stage it is unclear who will take charge, though Villa may choose to turn to former player Gary McAllister, who was part of Gerrard's coaching staff.

Supporters had long since turned against Gerrard and berated him during the humbling at Craven Cottage, in full view of members of the Villa hierarchy who were in the directors' box.

The message on the club's website was terse. It read: 'Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect.

Steven Gerrard has been sacked as Aston Villa manager after a disappointing start this season. He was given his marching orders with his final match being a dismal 3-0 defeat at Fulham

A club spokesman said: 'We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future.'

Gerrard signed a three-and-a-half-year deal worth about £5.5million per season but despite winning four of his first six matches, it was a dreadful 2022, in which Villa took only 32 points from 31 matches.

They had a net transfer spend of £52m in the summer but are above the relegation zone on goal difference alone – hardly what billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens were thinking of when Sawiris said the 'sky is the limit' for Villa three years ago.

Villa will adopt that stance when looking for Gerrard's replacement. They are prepared to pay one of the highest salaries in Europe to attract an elite coach, with Thomas Tuchel also available after leaving Chelsea earlier this season.

Whether Pochettino or Tuchel would be prepared to move to a club currently at risk of relegation is a different matter, but Villa are determined to aim for the top and will back the new manager with significant funds.

Gerrard appeared to know the game was up at Fulham. He said: 'It's tough. I'm a man, I accept it, I feel the fans' frustrations, I'm frustrated.

'It was a tough night for me personally. We will see what happens. I'm a fighter, I will never, ever quit anything whether it's football or in life.'

Aston Villa owners Nassef Sawiris (right) and Wes Edens (left) want to appoint an elite coach. Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel are both targets of the Villa hierarchy

When Gerrard's reign is analysed, the contribution of Philippe Coutinho will be studied closely.

Gerrard pushed for his former Liverpool team-mate to be signed on loan last January, and even though his displays were mixed, the Brazilian was signed on a permanent £17m deal last summer. He has yet to produce a goal or assist this term.

That transfer put the spotlight on Gerrard and fans' faith in him seemed to wane with every poor showing from Coutinho.

He was also affected by the loss of first-team coach Michael Beale, who took over as Queens Park Rangers boss last summer.

Beale was so influential on the training ground that Villa keeper Emi Martinez said he was like another manager. His replacement Neil Critchley has been unable to have the same impact on the squad.

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers was in charge of Gerrard at Liverpool and briefly faced him in Glasgow, when Rodgers was at Celtic and Gerrard at Rangers.

'I'm bitterly disappointed for Steven,' said Rodgers. 'He did a fantastic job at Rangers and the ambitions at Villa are to be pushing for Europe.

'It seems the way of things that every day a manager is losing his job or under threat, and I think stability and patience seems to be running out now. I believed that with patience Steven could have got the club where they wanted to go.'

Aston Villa announce Unai Emery as their new manager just FOUR DAYS after sacking Steven Gerrard... but caretaker Aaron Danks will remain in charge until November 1 while the Spaniard awaits his work permit

* Aston Villa acted quickly after holding advanced talks with Unai Emery
* Villa had been without a boss since Steven Gerrard was sacked on Thursday
* The Midlands club were ready to pay the 50-year-old's £5.25m release clause
* Villarreal had hoped he would reject the approach and continue in Spain

Unai Emery will take over as Aston Villa manager next month pending the outcome of his work permit application.

Villa moved swiftly on Monday to pay Villarreal the £5.3million clause to release Emery from his contract, and he is believed to have agreed a three-year deal to succeed Steven Gerrard.

Emery is poised to return to the Premier League three years after he was sacked by Arsenal, where he was in charge for a little more than a season.

Caretaker-boss Aaron Danks will again be in charge for Saturday's game at Newcastle while Emery waits for his 'work permit formalities' to be completed. Emery looked set to take charge of Newcastle last season only to have a last-minute change of heart.

'Aston Villa is delighted to announce the appointment of Unai Emery as the club's new Head Coach,' Villa said in a statement.

Aston Villa have appointed Unai Emery as their new manager after sacking Steven Gerrard. Emery, 50, spent 18 months in charge of Arsenal between May 2018 and November 2019. Villarreal are hopeful he will reject the advances of Villa, who are 14th in the league table

'Unai joins from Villarreal, whom he led to Europa League success by beating Manchester United in the final in 2021 as well as the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

'A highly experienced top level coach who has managed over 900 games, Unai has also previously managed in the Premier League during a spell with Arsenal, leading the Gunners to a Europa League final.

'He has also enjoyed notable success at Sevilla and at Paris Saint Germain. In Seville, he won three successive Europa League titles between 2013 and 2016 before going on to lift a Ligue 1 championship in France as well as two French Cups, two French League Cups and two Trophée des Champions.

'Unai will take over from November 1st after his work permit formalities are completed.'

Villa were attracted to Emery because of his top European pedigree, his knowledge of the Premier League and his familiarity with the 4-2-3-1 system.

There is a feeling at Villa that this formation is best suited to the players they have, and caretaker-boss Aaron Danks used it to great effect against Brentford on Sunday, with Villa winning 4-0.

Despite his difficulties at Arsenal, Emery has outstanding pedigree. He led Villarreal to Europa League glory in 2021, and the Champions League semi-finals last season. He also took Sevilla to consecutive Europa League titles from 2014-16 and had a spell in charge of Paris St Germain.

Emery is likely to be given significant funds to spend in the January transfer window as he tries to lead Villa up the table. When Gerrard left they were 17th in the table – precisely where they were when Gerrard succeeded Dean Smith a year earlier.

The 4-0 win over Brentford on Sunday under Danks lifted Villa to 15th in the table and was their best display for some time.

Even before Gerrard’s reign had ended, the writing was on the wall. Though the Villa hierarchy were desperate for the former England captain to succeed, the club’s slide down the table forced them to act. Intermediaries held meeting with Mauricio Pochettino but the former Tottenham boss was unconvinced despite a huge offer, while Villa also considered Brentford boss Thomas Frank and Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon. Frank is likely to sign a new deal with the Bees while Amorim is unlikely to leave Sporting in mid-season.

Emery had a large degree of control at Villarreal and it remains to be seen whether he would have similar influence at Villa, where sporting director Johan Lange and chief executive Christian Purslow also wield considerable power.

But billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are determined to restore Villa to the elite of English football and believe Emery is the man to take them there.

In a statement confirming Emery's departure, Villarreal said: 'Head coach Unai Emery has informed Villarreal CF of his unilateral decision to terminate his contract with the club.

'The Basque manager will therefore leave the club, which he joined in the 2020/21 season, and will hold a farewell press conference tomorrow at the Training Ground at 12pm CEST accompanied by the Yellows directors.

'Emery has gone down in Villarreal CF history for becoming the first coach to win a title with the club, the UEFA Europa League, as well as the historic achievement of reaching the Champions League semi-finals last year and helping the team qualify team for European competitions for two consecutive seasons.

'Villarreal CF would like to thank Unai Emery for the work he has done and wishes him the best of luck in his career.

'The club's director of football, Miguel Ángel Tena, will lead the team's training session tomorrow at 5pm CEST at the Training Ground (first 15 minutes open to the press) and will take over on an interim basis until the club announces a new head coach.'

Wolves FINALLY appoint Julen Lopetegui as Bruno Lage's long-term replacement after he turned them down twice... but his first game in charge won't be until AFTER the World Cup as he waits for a work permit

* Wolves have confirmed the appointed of Julen Lopetegui as their new manager
* The former Real Madrid and Sevilla boss will take charge on November 14
* His first game won't come until after the World Cup due to work permit issues
* The Spaniard twice snubbed their advances, first in 2016 and again last month

Wolves have finally appointed Julen Lopetegui as their new manager after being snubbed by the Spaniard twice in the past.

The 56-year-old, who has been in charge of some of Europe's elite clubs including Real Madrid, Sevilla and Porto, will take charge on November 14, while waiting for his work permit.

But Lopetegui, who led Sevilla to the Europa League in 2020, defeating Wolves in the last eight - will have to wait until after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for his first game in charge as he waits for a work permit.

His first match in charge is expected to be away to Everton on Boxing Day after the World Cup break, giving him time to assess the club's squad.

It is not the first time that Lopetegui has rejected Wolves, having also turned his back on Wolves in 2016, instead accepting a proposal to coach Spain.

Wolves have appointed former Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui as their new manager. The Midlands outfit confirmed the news of Lopetegui's appointment earlier this morning

Wolves have now however finally got their man, who was sacked by Sevilla earlier this season after three years in charge, following a Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Chairman Jeff Shi said: 'Julen is a top coach, with excellent experience at an elite level of the game, and we are very pleased to have agreed a deal to bring him to Wolves.

'Since the very beginning, Julen has been our number one choice to manage Wolves, and we look forward to welcoming him and his team when they join us in the coming weeks.'

Lopetegui arrives with big pedigree, having enjoyed an impressive spell at Sevilla that saw him guide them to the Europa League in 2020.

However, his tenure ended on a sour note last month when he was sacked by the LaLiga outfit following five losses in eight games.

His appointment comes a month after the Midlands outfit decided to sack Bruno Lage following a miserable start to the new Premier League season.

He was initially offered the chance to succeed Lage after being sacked by Sevilla, but opted to turn it down at the time, largely for family reasons.

Lopetegui arrives with big pedigree having guided Sevilla to the Europa League in 2020

Wolves had recently announced that under-18s boss and caretaker manager Steve Davis would remain in charge until 2023, but that has now changed after landing their man.

They've lost three of their past five games under Davis, leaving them sitting second from bottom in the Premier League, and two points off Southampton in 17th.

Wolves will face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League this afternoon as they bid to start turning their fortunes around.

They will then face Leeds United in the Carabao Cup and Arsenal at home before the World Cup begins in Qatar.

Southampton sack manager Ralph Hasenhuttl

Ralph Hasenhuttl departs Southampton after nearly four years in charge at the south-coast club; Saints have lost six of their last nine Premier League matches and sit inside the bottom three; first-team coach Ruben Selles will take charge on an interim basis.

Hasenhuttl leaves the Saints after their 4-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday, which left them in the relegation zone after six losses in nine top-flight games. Assistant coach Richard Kitzbichler has also left the club.

The Austrian was the Premier League's fourth-longest serving manager, having taken over at St Mary's in December 2018. He is the fifth top-flight boss to be sacked this season after Scott Parker, Thomas Tuchel, Bruno Lage and Steven Gerrard.

Championship club Luton confirmed on Monday that they had given Southampton permission to talk to Jones. A statement said: "We would like to place on record that the Premier League club have approached the board in the correct manner, for which we are grateful, and that the whole situation is extremely amicable with Southampton and with Nathan."

A Southampton statement read: "Hasenhuttl departs having made a significant contribution to the club, overseeing some memorable results and also playing a key role in the development of our club infrastructure, identity and playing squad.

"However, we now believe it is an appropriate time to make a change. Everyone involved with the club would like to express their sincere thanks to Ralph for all of his efforts, as well as the unwavering commitment he has shown throughout his time as manager."

During his spell at the club, Southampton suffered two 9-0 defeats in the space of 16 months as they lost to Leicester at home in October 2019 and were then thumped by the same scoreline at Manchester United in February 2021.

But Hasenhuttl managed to preserve Saints' Premier League status by guiding them to 16th in his first season in charge followed by an 11th-placed finish in 2019/20, with 15th-placed finishes in his following two campaigns.

Hasenhuttl admitted after the Newcastle defeat he did not see a way out for Southampton of their current form and when asked in his post-match press conference if this was his final game in charge, he said: "I have made a lot of decisions in my time here. Thankfully, I don't have to make that decision.

"I cannot say the effort wasn't there, but at the moment we are not taking the reward for the effort on the pitch.

"I think being in the relegation zone is a reflection of what we've done so far. It has not been good enough."

"You have to accept that we will have 10-15 defeats per season."

Those were the words of Ralph Hasenhuttl when I spoke to him at Southampton's training ground on Friday.

Two days later, a 4-1 thrashing by Newcastle at St Mary's led to him losing his job as manager.

Southampton find themselves in the relegation zone after 14 games. Sunday's loss was their eighth in the Premier League already this season.

Hasenhuttl had been used to pressure during his time on the south coast. Two 9-0 defeats and several poor runs of form since the Austrian's appointment in December 2018 resulted in his position being questioned multiple times. But the 55-year-old always seemed to bounce back.

However, a sequence of six defeats in nine Premier League matches after £83m was spent this summer - mainly on young players - has seen the Southampton hierarchy run out of patience.

"Southampton are a team fighting for their lives. Unless they improve on being more aggressive and willing to take one for the cause, they're going down," former Saints boss Graeme Souness told Sky Sports.

Southampton did not want to take that risk with Hasenhuttl still in charge.

Southampton announce Nathan Jones as their new boss on a three-and-a-half-year deal after sacking Ralph Hasenhuttl... with the Welshman set to be thrown straight into the deep end with a trip to Liverpool this Saturday

* Nathan Jones has been officially confirmed as the new manager of Southampton
* Ralph Hasenhuttl was sacked after the last match and they have moved quickly
* A compensation package, believed to be an initial £3million, has been agreed

Southampton have confirmed Nathan Jones as their new manager on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Jones' reputation took a knock during his time in charge at Stoke City but he has won plenty of plaudits since returning to Luton Town, leading to this chance at St Mary's.

Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan will join him on the south coast as first team coaches, with Southampton wasting little time to replace Ralph Hasenhuttl - who was sacked from his post following nearly four years on the South Coast.

'I'm really proud to be given this opportunity,' Jones said.

'I know a lot about the club from back in the days of The Dell, to coming here to St Mary's, and it's a wonderful football club.

'A lot of my family are Southampton fans, which doesn't half help, and I feel really, really proud to be given the opportunity, and I'm really looking forward to getting started.

'Obviously, I wanted to manage in the Premier League, I've dreamt of that since I've become a coach or a manager, but this club in particular – because of how it's run, because of the structure, because of how they look deeper than just results – really appeals to me.'

Nathan Jones has been officially presented as Southampton's new boss after leaving Luton. He replaces Ralph Hasenhuttl - who was sacked from his post after nearly four years in charge. Jones is fulfilling a 'dream' of being a Premier League manager

Jones, who was in the stands to watch Southampton defeat League One Sheffield Wednesday on penalties in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, was under contract with Luton through until 2027.

As a result, Southampton have come to a compensation agreement that Luton have described as 'acceptable', believed to be an initial £3million.

Losing Jones is a real blow for Luton as they again look well-placed to push for the Championship play-offs this season.

He leaves them ninth in the table after 20 matches.

In his own statement, Luton CEO Gary Sweet wrote: 'Nathan leaves behind a fantastic legacy, along with Alan and Chris, who have both also played a significant part in taking us on a journey from League Two, in Alan's case, to establishing us in the higher reaches of the Championship. We thank them both too and wish them every success.

'The fact we are looking up towards the Premier League, rather than down towards League One as we were when we brought Nathan back to the club, makes the Luton Town job an attractive one.

'This gives a genuine opportunity to give our continued progress a refresh, and we are treating this process exactly the same as when recruiting players.

'A managerial recruitment group has been set up and has met every day since we were first contacted by Southampton as we conduct a thorough search for his successor, and we are well into that painstakingly detailed process.'

Mick Harford, the club's chief recruitment officer, is in interim charge for the weekend's game against Rotherham United.

David Moyes is the bookies' favourite to be the next sacked Premier League manager after five straight defeats - with Frank Lampard, Antonio Conte and Brendan Rodgers also strongly tipped to leave their clubs

* The sack race is heating up with a number of top flight managers under pressure
* David Moyes is the bookies' favourite to be axed by West Ham amid poor form
* Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is also under pressure after another bad result

West Ham boss David Moyes is the bookies' favourite to be the next Premier League boss to be sacked - with Frank Lampard and Antonio Conte also in danger.

The sack race is heating up this season as we move into 2023 with a number of managers finding themselves under pressure after a run of poor form, though it is Moyes who is under the microscope following five straight defeats.

The Hammers lost 2-0 at home to Brentford last time out, having also been beaten 3-1 by Arsenal on Boxing Day - and Moyes will need to pick up results fast ahead of their clash against Leeds United on January 4.

West Ham boss David Moyes is the bookies' favourite to be sacked next in the Premier League

Moyes is as short as 5/4 to lose his job after his side's worrying run of losses, via Oddschecker, and he will need to work his magic to bring about the form that saw his side finish seventh last season.

They currently occupy 17th position - level on points with 18th placed Nottingham Forest and face a real dog fight to survive.

He will be hoping to avoid joining the five managers who have already been axed in the Premier League so far - Scott Parker (Bournemouth), Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea), Bruno Lage (Wolves), Steven Gerrard (Aston Villa) and Ralph Hasenhuttl (Southampton).

Spurs boss Antonio Conte is also coming under pressure after his side's worrying form

Frank Lampard (L) will be under pressure to stop Everton's slide, while Brendan Rodgers (R) is also battling relegation with Leicester

Elsewhere, Frank Lampard is finding himself under fire once again despite saving Everton last season - and even after pulling off an impressive 1-1 draw away at Premier League champions Manchester City.

Before that, the Toffees had lost three straight games, including a 2-1 loss at home to Wolves on Boxing Day following the World Cup restart.

Lampard's men are sitting in 16th place, just a point above the relegation zone on 15 points following eight losses from 17 games. The former Chelsea boss has odd of 3/1 to be the next Premier League boss sacked.

Another manager experiencing turbulence this season is Tottenham boss Antonio Conte, whose side have been leaking goals and lacking confidence this season.

Since returning from the World Cup, Spurs have drawn 2-2 against Brentford - after finding themselves 2-0 down - before a dismal 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa this weekend.

Tottenham have now gone a goal down in 10 consecutive games after a fifth loss of the campaign, and while they are still in touching distance of the top four, fans are growing tired and the board could soon become frustrated too.

Conte is at 11/4 to be sacked next - and his comments that Spurs need a miracle to claim Champions League football next season will not sit well with chairman Daniel Levy, who is historically not afraid to pull the trigger.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has also found himself in the sack race after a difficult season that saw him being forced to sell key defender Wesley Fofana to Chelsea - with just two players being brought in.

Quote:
PREMIER LEAGUE SACK RACE

David Moyes (West Ham) - 5/4

Frank Lampard (Everton) - 3/1

Antonio Conte (Tottenham) - 11/4

Brendan Rodgers (Leicester) - 10/1

Steve Cooper (Forest) - 16/1

Graham Potter (Chelsea) - 16/1

Gary O'Neil (Bournemouth) - 20/1
Rodgers - who has odds of 10/1 to be sacked next - has seen his side lose back to back games against Newcastle and Liverpool since the Premier League returned this month, which has appeared to undo a mini resurgence between October and November.

The Foxes started the season terribly with Rodgers looking nailed on to be sacked as they sunk into the relegation zone - before a run of four wins in five saved his bacon.

However, the doubts are beginning to creep in again ahead of Leicester's must-win clash at home to Fulham on Tuesday.

Another name in the frame is Graham Potter - who was only appointed as Chelsea manager in September to replace Thomas Tuchel.

But it hasn't been a hugely promising start to life at Stamford Bridge, winning just four matches out of 11 in the Premier League and suffering some shock defeats to Aston Villa, Newcastle and Brighton - with his side also beaten by Man City.

While it's unlikely owner Todd Boehly would swing the axe this soon into his reign, there is massive pressure on Potter - who is on 16/1 to be sacked - to deliver Champions League football and the new hierarchy look to continue the club's successful history - and results will have to improve as the season goes on.

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper also finds himself at 16/1 to be sacked after a difficult first season in the Premier League while Bournemouth boss Gary O'Neil is at 20/1 as they battle the drop.

kabarnya Moyes diberi 3 pertandingan u/ menyelamatkan karirnya, padahal musim lalu WHU menjadi salah satu kuda hitam yg mendobarak dominasi Big 4. kalo tidak memberikan perubahan, sepertinya Moyes & Lampard menjadi salah dua pelatih yg akan dipecat dalam waktu dekat

Everton FINALLY confirm Frank Lampard has been sacked more than five hours after Sportsmail broke the story, as they thank boss for his service with his coaching staff also departing

* Everton have sacked manager Frank Lampard after just under a year in charge
* He leaves the Toffees 19th in the Premier League after a 2-0 loss to West Ham
* They have now got through seven managers in the past seven years

Everton have confirmed the sacking of manager Frank Lampard after 357 days in charge.

A statement released at 8.15pm on Monday confirmed that a number of his coaching staff have also been let go.

It comes more than five hours after Sportsmail announced his departure, which saw the former Chelsea midfielder told his services were no longer required in a phone call with Everton owner Farhad Moshiri.

The end felt inevitable after a poor run of form that left Lampard on the brink, and Sportsmail understands Marcelo Bielsa is Everton's No 1 choice to take over.

Everton have confirmed the sacking of Frank Lampard after just under a year in charge. The official announcement from Everton came five hours after Sportsmail revealed his sacking. Lampard won just 12 of his 44 games in charge at Goodison Park and lost 24

Lampard leaves the club 19th in the Premier League and winless since October, with Saturday's 2-0 loss to West Ham extending their poor run to 11 losses in their last 14 games.

The 44-year-old spent Sunday in discussions with Moshiri, Chairman Bill Kenwright and Kevin Thelwell, Everton’s Director of Football.

He was aware the appetite for managerial change had grown but had been left uncertain about what direction the club might take, as some conversations he had with Moshiri centred on his views on recruitment.

The sacking leaves Everton on the hunt for their seventh manager in seven years, with Carlo Ancelotti the only one to leave of his own accord.

It will come as a personal blow to Lampard, who is believed to have grown fond of the club and was enjoying living in the North West.

He leaves Goodison Park having won just 12 of his 44 games in charge of the club, with 23 losses in that time - leaving him with a win percentage of 27 per cent.

Sportsmail has revealed that Marcelo Bielsa the favourite to take over the role. Former Everton left back Leighton Baines will take training until a new manager is appointed

Everton released an official statement on the sacking on Monday, which read: 'Everton Football Club can confirm that Frank Lampard has left his post as Senior Men’s First Team Manager today.

'Joe Edwards, Paul Clement, Ashley Cole and Chris Jones have also left the Club. Alan Kelly will remain as goalkeeping coach.

'Everyone at Everton would like to thank Frank and his coaching staff for their service during what has been a challenging 12 months.

'Frank and his team’s commitment and dedication have been exemplary throughout their time at the Club, but recent results and the current league position meant this difficult decision had to be taken. We wish Frank and all his backroom team well for their future in the game.

'The Club has started the process to secure a new manager and will provide updates on the appointment in due course.

'Paul Tait and Leighton Baines will take training until a new manager is appointed.'
